Ok here is a shot of my Region ... I have 350,000 Sims in there at this point in time.

The long valley in the middle runs from north to south and cut across two cities. The southern city also has access to the sea. It is here on this valley floor where the heart of the Shosaloza region pumps. The sothern city is almost purely residential and the bulk is on 6x6 6x12 and 8x8 mega lots. There are sections of low density and here is where I buidl the character of the city.

The northern city is only Com and Industrial, Again the Industrial is purely 8x8 Megas.

Currently the city has around 230,000 Sims in it.

The heart of the region.

If we see the 4x4 map as a grid and number the leftside from to to bottom ... ABCD and the top frpm left to right 1234 then the above mentioned cities are a2 and B2,

Now the first city I have some details on is "Kommetjie" ... in English it is something like Small Basin and it sits at C4.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Kommetjie-00.jpg&hash=6d5bb713cc1cb197ad1fddb607a461ce653553f2)

Not much left for development if you subtract the mountain and the sea.  &prt

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Kommetjie-00a.jpg&hash=1b8def1e87472ac711eae7086cae4b9788bbf2b0)

Gascooker and Barby provided these two and the trees are my Jacarandas.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Kommetjie-00b.jpg&hash=02d331b480036ea41071373d40f7b6ee065b5ef3)

A city needs a hospital.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Kommetjie-00c.jpg&hash=5bdd7a8326ef2edb9ef3f3195fa4427fd4457fb0)

The rich people are there.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Kommetjie-00d.jpg&hash=162dd6b9c3c7db1cb8a3ce07214ad58c41b6060a)

Building on the slopes are a challenging experience and I have also spent time in making almost all residentials Low Density to be SF.

The city has to use Ferries to help with the transport.

I love the graph Colyn, how on earth did you make it?

Nice fish farms too!

You've done very well with the terraforming, it looks very natural.

@ Sam ... I made the grid in gMax.

Ok my next city I am showing is Narrows - D3

I am posting them in the order that they were developed.

Current population is 95k and 37k commercial jobs as well as 6k Industrial jobs.

This is the startpoint of the Interstate and in this city the mayor opted for some serious land reclaiming ... ;)

This is also a fairly mixed city and one of the cities whre I will push the population a bit. From the various pictures you will notice thatthere a many places that have not been rounded off and there is a lot of open spaces.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows_00.jpg&hash=fd8dfdda7b6720be0b035864186981d4e18fd2d0)

Colyn, I gotta agree with mattb on this one. You maximized without minimizing (??? &dance???). This is more along the lines of what I would do with this map with regards to building.

That would be the best thing about a challenging map, is that there is a lot of planning involved. How long did you plan this one out?
Title: Re: CSX Plays on Shosaloza
Post by: Colyn on December 20, 2006, 09:34:50 PM
Thanks for the comments ... yes I do spend many hours planning the sections ... the first picture here of Gumtree Ridge ... well I spent most of yesterday doing the landscaping and the infrastructure.

Right from the beginning I loved playing the mountains but the way most lots handled the slopes did spoil it for me. So about a year ago I started making lots of SF lots and converted every low res lot in my plugins to be SF if it could not I dumped it.

Ok here is another batch from Narrows. ....

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-01a.jpg&hash=c73b390ac72e4431386d2dd1682efd571b2a28fa)

Intersection on the interstate ... this area has good residentials to north and the coastline will be developed for commercial and maybe a little HT Industrial.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-01b.jpg&hash=5ae6784c132aab36df89db34431a64aca94f99ab)

Good SF homes ... I love it when a plan comes together :)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-01c.jpg&hash=0dd91acec756b9287f0fbdf8cea4ba16ff9693ac)

More SF homes.

Med res that handles the slope well.

Thanks for the comments ... to me the whole city is part fo the game ... almost every tile gets some attention when I play and I like to build stuff that I will either like to visit or stay in.

Ok I have another batch from Narrows ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-02a.jpg&hash=90efc94e8feeb1a8b180563f8b0462515482136b)

To work in the mountains will mean long stretches of road climbing the slope ... when I do the road I try to make one tile wide "runoff" area too and here I use the 1x1 res and com lots and my various Flora Walks. It gives the city a bit more life and it helps get some sims into the hills.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-02b.jpg&hash=852cbaacfd339b81327f2c7abf2685ca53a0ef0f)

On the slopes I like to do some commercials where intersections happen.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-02c.jpg&hash=5e671d9d9172ec2699776de69683071fd774971f)

Spindrift Quays ... the place to go to when you are looking for fun ... tons of things happening there and at night the pubs and eating places bustle with activity.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-02d.jpg&hash=076a08fafad818716d43098af2356bf7524d110c)

Small community with their own waterfront. Sport fishing is BIG in these waters.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Narrows-02e.jpg&hash=d181a86b837eeb9517af557c784e806258bc342a)

A little bit of industrial and waste management.

Ok the next city I am showing is Bigbend ... that is at C3 ... I have not done much here apart from preparing the general lay of the land and constructing the Interstate.

This is currently also home to a number of farms and a few Industrial Megas ... all done to serve the region with some much needed jobs.

Two MEGA Industrials.

This city will expand a lot more be developed ... I am just not sure if I will keep the farms or let them go.

I hope this inspires some people to play again and inspire players to dig deep and push the envelope. This is the only game I know that can be in such a multitude of configurations and it is a challenge for young and old. How dreadful would my life have been without Simcity ...  8)

I am actually quite thrilled that you call me "friend" ... rumours have it that I am the biggest dirtbag to have ever ventured onto ST. So ... you have made my day.  :satisfied:

I think that title's reserved for someone else....And it's because of you and Barby that BSC is what it is, with nearly 100 members and still producing some of the highest quality content available.  Actually, it's because you and the other "old school" BATers have kept the game and the community alive, it gives new people the inspiration to join in and create too.

Hi Colyn, nice work with that city. Very eye-candy  . I like the small pathway that surrounds the tunnel in the las picture. Those are the details that make a city credible  ;)

Barbyw, the last version of the walls ( including the ones seen in Colyn's pictures) do have a pointing arrow (like SG's ones) to help you face the lot correctly before placing it  #stsfd· . Anyway, some practice is also necesary to get the right way  :-[ ....

Anyway, to all the players, even I made the walls, dont abuse of them. Like the good wine, if you drink a glass, is a pleasure, but if you drink a bottle.... $%Grinno$%

Ok ... now I did not plan do a formal CJ with a story line etc and instead thought about doing a bunch of short stories that plays off in the region.

-*-*-*-

Today I have a dark story for you ... on the whole our entrepid mayor ... Matt Taylor managed to secure himself the governing position region wide and he has strong support across the board. However ... he is also crazy about the environment as you all know and has warded off invasive development plans with nail and tooth.

Sadly ... unbeknown to him ... the South Western corner has been invaded by migrants from the adjoining region ... all seeking opportunities in the fairly wealthy Shozalosa. Now when Matt realised what was happening and saw the illegal squatting and land invasion he went grey ... actually more yellowish grey.

His surveyors got mugged and all their kit was stolen ... community health workers are being harrassed and some have been abducted. Crime is out of control and city funds got squandered on humongous projects like a monorail system. Nepotism and corruption rules the roost. The cities of Mansimnyama and Sabenza is infested with "clerics" and union members are running vast intimidation scams among the illiterate population.

Matt is getting nowhere with his environmental plans and poverty and AIDS are descimating the population.

As first defense he is now isolating the two cities from the neighbouring Dweba ... Dweba as you have seen is the crown jewel for Matt's environmental efforts and also the place where he spends most of his time.

To get things into perspective ... Dweba sits at B3 ... Sabenza is at B4 and Mansimnyama is at A4. The tiny community of Bosigo at A3 is being threatened by the political turmoil in Mansimnyama. Matt is calling in favours like hell to try and stem the tide. He knows that once the masses in the Soutwest hits Bosigo it is a matter of time and then they will stream into Dweba. The amount of money spent in Dweba to bring the city to number one for tourism is way too much to risk an invasion.

So ... it is turning into a case of capital against the masses and Matt Taylor is ruthless enough not to be swayed by sob stories. It was with a black frame of mind that he drove into the courtyard of the newly built Mike's Place in Bosigo. He parked his car and smiled when he looked at the other cars in the yard ...

His call for help did not fall on deaf ears. He knew that the real power behind Shosaloza sits firmly in the wallets of those that are here for this bush summit.

So now you have some background and the news in pictures will follow soon ...   "$Deal"$

VERY interesting story Colyn - I cannot wait how it will develop. It's probably not by coincidence that I believe to recognize parts of it. &Thk/(

This is an amazing CJ, Colyn.  Great pics, and the story you just posted sounds like a good setup for some really amazing stuff.

Well as I promised ... here is the news in pictures ...

The tiny community of Bosigo is getting a foothold in the rugged mountains and first of all the farmers settled in and tamed the land.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Bosigo-00.jpg&hash=b79c094ee2091ad7f2f61a6249ee40b3621daf33)

In this lodge is where Matt and friends planned their campaign against the corrupt politicians and clerics in Mansimnyama and Sabensa. The trusty guys in blue kept an eye on their beloved mayor.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Bosigo-00b.jpg&hash=3f3ab3da0d6ef85a06935348ed3d27da42ef2e30)

The community made a special effort to make the men in blue feel at home and comfortable ... with the constant threat of land grabbing and squatting the police force was pampepered by the Sims in Bosigo.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Bosigo-00a.jpg&hash=1218ab5e3996171c1b1903b79f4d2e055eed13c6)

This is what was cooking in Mansimnyama ... the Reverend Desmond Khulumasimba got grants from the city treasury and built a huge church right in the center of the development. From here his campaign against Matt was managed with cunning and devious plans. Rumours about activities in that building are rive but nobody has given any proof yet.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00.jpg&hash=bcbcb2908611849c7e0672efeb00f72a109f1977)

Here is a better view ... sadly this photographer did not make it back to Bosigo and it was pure luck that he uploaded the shot to his editor's blog ... otherwise we would not be seeing this. The general condition around the church is clear ... utter poverty and lawlesness. All efforts to try and trace the photographer has been fruitless.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00a.jpg&hash=15842bf9582dd674b48b56cc0b68bd6897459d66)

Ok now right at the start Matt decided that he needed to isolate this hellhole from the rest of the region and stop the spread of the migrants. So the first tasks were ... get the garbage managed and provide a first line of defense. A Waste management plant and a small military camp was erected first.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00b.jpg&hash=896fc8a3ab30f4c128a9a7022a96d18b811f7a43)

This is the area that was earmarked for development by the "Save our Region" action campaign ... with tons of money at his disposal Matt Taylor could make anything happen.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00c.jpg&hash=ba0fea5466751f369be129569bc3d6034088d614)

The big boys rolled in and soon the landscape was changing fast ... being forced to work so close to the snowline meant that any cutting and terracing would be constantly under threat of marshland invasion and the PEG Engineers proposed a massive drainage control system.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00e.jpg&hash=40d064af1de460a1eb138ab8cbbd036c6f9f482e)

One year later and millions of Simileons into the mountain ... and the "New Hope" basin was ready for occupation. Matt was very pleased. Although he had to approve some radical engineering projects the overall project was done with a sensitivity to the environment and he was pleased with the ground work.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00f.jpg&hash=4389295097c501311eb4a5e06f2cf4ba812fc35e)

During the project the "acting" mayor ... Vuzi Kandamasimba and his henchemen turned their intimidation campaign up to try and prevent the population from turning to Matt ... desperate poverty and disease was trashing the city and Vuzi was fighting a loosing battle. The reality of capital and good governance was creeping down the slopes and soon his nest is going to be tarred.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00g.jpg&hash=a52410b9275f26d19bb5c6d8c7c359249a34ab23)

Many of the jobless and homeless found work on the landscaping project and here Matt provided education and training as well as medical services. Soon the community began to realise that they had to take their city back from the vagrant management core and Matt did not have any guilt over his subliminal influencing of their minds.

On Matt's suggestion ... 20,000 migrant workers, backed by some serious demolition experts and city planners ... staged a massive protest and under the cover of the chaos the engineers took the opportunity and demolished a large number of the dillapidated buildings around the church. Open areas were created and it was as if suddenly the "light" was switched on ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-00h.jpg&hash=d5e7b092e2dfdfff3b0947a6abfa7e1e6c414bc8)

Once it is safer in that part of the old city I will send another photographer in to get you some closeups. For now the situation in Mansimnyama is tense. The union leaders and clerics are fighting like hell to retain their grip on the city but the progress in the north west is slowly but surely drawing their support away. It looks as if our Mayor may yet win the day ...

As can be expected in any well managed capatilistic society ... there will be very rich people and they will take the best spots ... The little seepage that comes past the canal was turned into a small marshy park and special protection is given to the bird population. Rumour has it that the rare and endangered Sobbing Troller is sighted regularly just after sundown ... bathing in the shallow water and desperately trying to get rid of the Terrycan Moochee droppings that is all over the once pristine Simtropolis Conservency. The reverand Desmond Kulumamasimba has aparently given many sermons in which he warned the congregation against the Terrycan Moochee ... it would appear that even a corrupt preacher understands and fears the notorious Terrycan Moochee.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01a.jpg&hash=4d80005182fc043be7757176a9dc3ecf42f9f0a0)

The community of the New Hope basin is very proud of their favourite fuelstop.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01b.jpg&hash=422a5f3e5f6c5775319a20f10a6c6f9a31acf460)

The PEG Engineers purposedly designed the canal system so that they could replicate this lovely old steamer and took special care to make it a very popular nightspot. The sunset cocktails are very popular and on fullmoon evenings there is a competition to see who can shoot the most Terrycan Moochees as they slither down the slopes to the canal.

So far Pegasus is the champion with the most Terrycan Moochee heads hanging on the wall of his private cubicle ... rumour has it that Jeroni is taking lessons from Pegasus and is making sure that he will be ready when and if the Terrycan Moochee tries to invade his paridise.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01c.jpg&hash=b90991f3dce789965af19aef3d4f09dbdea98afb)

Prepo was quick to build this lovely Industrial site and the Sims loves it to work here.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01d.jpg&hash=6db363fd8e92b80d533d99afd6f43b85dc46b2a3)

Cascooker had to come ... the polluted air from the valley tends to soil the Sims hair and lately severe cases of Tarred Mouthed disease was noted in the population ... so the need for proper treatment made it necessary to build the city's own Pantsdowne Plant to produce millions of litres of peroxide.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01e.jpg&hash=eaf1044ad20a4b8ffe2ab5ff7e154c50a49d7c36)

Matt Taylor took his hanglider and silently soared deep into the heart of the city and took this picture of the arrival and departure point of the controversial Shozatrain project. It would appear as if Deadwoods and Simgoober has some connections because they received permission to build right on this hotspot. Could be because the two hotels are known to be of high quality and their effective anti-paparazi policies.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-01f.jpg&hash=83a8abaa4b2e3f365d99fb783ddac47d361efadb)

As the city center slowly cleared up the old haphazard industrial zone was re-zoned two more functional Industrial parks were erected.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02a.jpg&hash=b8196c17143cbaec59f2c7f9dadbfd893f619238)

Goober Gen donated the funds to erect this lovely museum. A very popular exhibition is the one that is staged in main foyer ... here photographs and oil paintings are rotated that reflects the works of old masters like Caliban, Rubik and Gascooker.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02b.jpg&hash=d34f03af456fee3c1ba284bfdaec2a870f2f8f1e)

On the eastern side of the Great Church ... Deadwoods Engineering donated a lovely amphitheatre. The current show ... Tarpaulin Manouvres and Sand Tossing is very popular. The cast are all from Bubly Singers Congregation and the crowds pack the stands full every night.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02c.jpg&hash=5db1a673e788fc7e9a99be184b0c831ed4d6960a)

In exchange for his generous contributions to the upliftment of the old inner city ... Deadwoods were given this prime spot and he erected this FLW Masterpiece here. From this building DDWD Industries plan to manage their campaign to spread the DWD products into the hearts and minds of the population.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02d.jpg&hash=7ac6d9edb2775b9334f8d56f1417420a4c54e07b)

Ripptide made his contribution by providing the splendid pair of fountains and for the first time the sun can now shine on the front fascade of the church.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02e.jpg&hash=0b8a891e22d1bd21c95e20067477052245b076cb)

Two more excellent Deadwoods contributions and it is rumoured that the Reverand Desmond and "mayor" Vuzi is spending long sessions in the chess park ... When asked about it by a local reporter the reverand responded ...

"We are determined to outsmart the capatalist Matt Taylor."

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-02f.jpg&hash=fad0795377b538e82f05b6938375c4d0a96b3c1f)

Deadwoods are dead set on making a big impression and his demolition team went to work carefully during the now historical "Riots of Repression" and did their demolition task in such a way that the reclaimed site could be turned into a lovely living museum.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-03a.jpg&hash=ae1c614f850f82498ad547e3a64976ae92361722)

Goober Gen erected this funcional school and the science and engineering programs are specifically geared to provide well trained labour to future Goober Gen industries.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-03b.jpg&hash=d89cfc199d777618123875d23c3046052222d82c)

The church is now a focal point of the inner city and rumour has it that some of the more senior staff members are busy planning the demise of Desmond Kulumasimba ... he is trying to ward it off but his influence is dwindeling and his old pal Vuzi Kandamsimba has problems of his own ... so he cannot help

Desmond much.

"Time that the church does what it should do ..." is all Matt Taylor muttered when asked about it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Mansimnyama-03c.jpg&hash=32640ee125e2701b57a777059af322ae5c281011)

The new Hope Basin is developing nicely and Matt and his partners are happy ...

PRESS RELEASE ...

QuoteThe Pantsdowne Corporation strongly denies the rumour that Vlakhaas has fiddled with their mixing controls and that sufferers from Tarred Mouth disease will end up eating on their gums instead of getting a glistening brilliant white smile.

Signed ... Gascooker ... CEO

When reporters asked the spokesman about the fact that Gascooker's chaufeur was toothless, he just winked and muttered ...

"That is what you get from spreading rumours ..."  :satisfied:

An excellent update, Colyn, full of interesting details in words and pictures. The use of the canals is very clever and I would never have though of doing things that way. The terraforming has been well thought out too. This is a difficult map and needs this sort of touch to make it all work. The story is building nicely too ;D
This also showing us what BATs, lots etc are useful in this type of terrain and what needs to be made.
Thanks for the update. I am watching with envy at your innovation. Mind you, if I wasn't chief cook and bottlewasher I may actually get round to playing a bit more :P

Thank you Barby ... I really enjoy the difficult maps a lot ... This last city was kind of a cheat for me as I needed a reason to go a bit extreme on the terraforming. Well the Reverand and Vuzi was a good pair to get me to where I wanted to go.  :D

Great overviews especially the night ones. I am envious that you have Mellona Tower grown as I love that. I find it interesting that you have no residents. I have mixed RCI in this city and will show some more pics later. I also like the use of parks here and there to break up the monotony. I see the need for some new lots though. ;D

Holy c**p. These updates are brilliant. Like The Tea Cat said, there is much to digest.

Some of the best for me:

*The story line is a fantastic read.
*The use of the canals to divert melted snow and the terracing in the hills of Mansimnyama

Very good work Colyn. Your downtown-by-night is amazing - surreal.

Question: is Barbys 11x13 mega IND lot (with the Baltic flour mill) available for the public?
Title: Re: CSX Plays on Shosaloza
Post by: Colyn on January 08, 2007, 12:11:59 PM
The Baltic was released as part of my collectiom of 8x8 Mega lots on the STEX. It was released in 3 CSX collections ... ID IM IHT. I dont think Barby's 11x13 has been released.

Post by: BarbyW on January 08, 2007, 01:01:08 PM
I have never made an 11x13 with the Baltic. The 11x13 Soton Tyres lot was released in the 2005 Oktoberfest. garyreggae is revisiting the BAT and it will be released as a mega growable when ready.
Just to give you all a good laugh, I had a HD crash in early November and when I reinstalled SC4 I forgot to replace some plugins back in my playing folder. One of the models I left out was the Tyre Factory. Today I zoned 11x13 and guess what I got :D Yup, a humungous brown box. Fortunately I know someone who knows why brown boxes appear so have now corrected the problem.

There are many places I'd like to visit in this region.

Well, that's what you get when  not paying attention. I almost missed your great story Colyn!

Love what you did to the region. I hate corrupt politicians.
You know, I got a riot in one of my towns the other day. It was my first in 2 years of game play and I forgot to take photo's, blast! I hope there will be another one soon then I will make some photo's as the riot police was quite impressive.

I guess you plopped most of the buildings in that awesome commercial district?

Thanks ... nope ... that commercial district are all growables ... there is one plop and obviously the parks but every one of those buildings grew on it's own.

I rarely use plops in big commercial zones like that. I use commercial plops in the small towns for example my lodges.

No I do not use cheats ... I do BLOCK all Maxis commercials however. Ok I do use the Lotto Money Ordinance and I do it because the game money was broken since day one and the advent of custom lots screwed it even more. So for me Garbage and Money is just a simple nuisance to be excluded from the gameplay.  :satisfied:

DTs No Maxis Mod was at ST...  There was another one made that was on SimCityCentral if that site still exsists, dont remember who made that one.  But the one that was at SCC had the choice of removing each wealth type separately, whereas DTs mod only has 3 files if I remember correctly removing R, C, I for each file.

Wow, no cheats then.
I guess I use the same kind of play: put all the maxis buildings in the Chicago tile (cannot remember which modd that is). This still allows me to grow them when I want.
I do plop the Aigo Cement Storage Tanks by Zooper (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14944) I found out that their landvalue is way too high and that it is nice to fill the coffers of the municipality (as they should with those huge tanks). Basically I believe the Aigo company must be the biggest employer in the region as they have tanks in every one of my city tiles.  ;D
Another great money producing industry is the Teapot company by georg2004 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4537). But it's growable only so a bit more trickier.

So I agree with your last statement about money.
Garbage may have some nice effects when trying to build a ghetto. Come to think of it, Jeronij's latest ploppable garbage now covers that idea, so I now wholeheartily can agree with both of your statements.

Have a gerat weekend.

Thank you to all for your remarks and comments.

Well it has been a while ... our entrepid Mayor Matt Taylor has his hands full. The crime infested South West is slowly but surely getting the Matt Treatment but in the meanwhile the good folks in the North West is not happy to wait. They want more land to develop and they want it now!

Matt's only real option is to go to the North East corner ... not much room there plus he was overwhelmed by the vast numbers of indigenous trees and animals ... especially birds. But similiar to most of the other places he was confronted by the mountains and the snow line.

After his initial surveys he spent the money and built a road into what will become known as Nqutu.

He did learn a lot about runoff management in his battle against the migrants and now he once again opted for the same sollution ... as well planned canal system tha will catch the water.

What he also did was to get CSX in to look at the PEG spillways and it was found that there is enough water velocity to turn these spillways into efficient hydro electrical generators. This was a bonus ... the terrain is rough and steep and there are numerous spilways so for a bit extra the Simms will get power taht is clean and at the same time the issue of runoff is managed.

However ... the PEG Canals are expensive to build and do have a harsh visual impact on the environment. So Matt turned to CSX again ... he had his eye on the SG DItches but they needed some upgrading ... the constant seepage high in the mountain meant that the grass around the canals will be thriving and he also wanted local trees.

Now I have some shots for you to show what Matt did with the PEG and Simgoober canals and ditches.

In the first shot you can see how the runoff from the hotsprings were collected into a nice dam and then channelled into the canal system. Rumour has it that the current occupants of Nqutu enjoys it to swim here on moonlit nights and apparently clothing is optional. Well they should enjoy it because there is already petitions before the councel for a church or two ...  "$Deal"$ ... and that could mean some interference in this nocturnal pleasure.

Here is a picture of the transition that CSX made to get from the SG Ditches into the PEG Canals. Jeroni contributed in the Twist Project.

Here is a shot of a CSX SG Pond ... this lot also provides water to the city.

Here is a collective view of the CSX Twisted losts.

Another angle ...

Here are some shots of the ditches during winter ... thanks to Cycledogg for the Oakus Vlakhus ... I love them.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Nqutu-00f.jpg&hash=f91f44e5b1efe8bef53e69d12c152ccca704c176)

So as you can see ... Matt Taylor is a busy man and he has much to do here in Nqutu.

Hope you enjoy this.

Matt Taylor is no fool ... with so many roads on the cliffs he realised quickly that there is money to be made ... he put the word out and CSX providd him with a prototype ... a dandy deck ... hanging over the cliff and giving the Simms a perfect view while they enjoy their sundowners ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Nqutu-01a.jpg&hash=0965d4508f02ad9f96083da723c871b0016769fe)

The city planners have some issues and CSX was sent back to the drawing boards ... however the Valley View Sundowners will remain in place because JR saw the possibilities and Tappas and Beer is very popular with the local business people.

Inspiring indeed... Thanks very much for sharing these pictures. Looking through them gives me renewed enthusiasm to play the game. Your last words here also struck a real chord with me. It is a uniquely and infintely challenging game and I have recently had a lot of fun teaching my 8 year-old niece how to play. Just some information about D4 .... Matt Taylor is a busy man and the city of Cape Vidal is next on his list ... here he has some very ambitious plans for that vast expanse of waterfont and open sea.

So to make sure he will get what he wanted he decided to test the contractors first ... CSX was first to present him with something very special "CSX WFK - Malta" ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Cape%2520Vidal-00a.jpg&hash=7328a101a8a97611b9f72be5e81cf91f5209e03d)

The Tea Cat by day. (A tribute to The TeaCat)

Matt Taylor likes this and it is a definite contender for one of the large waterfront developments that is in the pipeline.

PS ... these lots and a few others that were made for the Shosaloza project will be released on the LEX soon. Over the years I have made many tribute lots for SC4 Community members and I hope the three I am naming here will have no objections.

Thanks for all the comments.

There's technicians and there's artists...

You, Colyn, are an artist.  Your lots are to die for.

The water front lots look amazing.  and making them a tribute to someone else is a very nice idea as well.  I can't wait to see these gems upload to the lex.

Thanks for the compliments guys ... I want to make a few more lots to go with the Malta WFK so that you can build a really interesting waterfront area.

All these are pure eye candy ... the reason is that I am seeing it to be used on the waterfront and then 2 or three tiles away the first road/street .... then you can zone that with Res or Comm and have a very spiffy area.

Matt Taylor ran into a problem ... the Old Aberdybi Rescue station stood smack bang in the middle of new waterfront development zone. Well ... not a man that is stopped easily and a firm believer in the might of the Simileon  &idea he called Callagrafx and CSX in ... well nobody knows what were said in that meeting but the outcome was great ...

The old Rescue station got a workover and now functions as a working "museum" rescue station.

This lot is not eye candy and needs road access, power and water.

I like it a lot ... I wish I had more time to build lots ... I especially like to twist with other people's creations.  ;)

It has been a while and I found some time to work on my Region a bit.

Here are some shots from Sabenza ... B4 ...

The population is edging toward 800k now and staying true to the principle of minimum impact on the terrain ... it is getting harder to grow the Sims.

In the following shots are some work I did around my Dam and the use of canals ... I also tested Jeronij's new canals and made a transition lot from PEG's narrow canals to the JRJ Canals.

Enjoy.

Well in every city we have our special spots ;) ... now here in Sabenza the Sourbrodt Restaurant is one of those for me ... this is where I come for a fantastic dinner but I also come here some afternoons to sit on the deck across the street and watch the sun set over the valley.

This was one of the last models JENX gave me to render and I decided to lot it to act as a "heritage" lot ... a restoration of something from the past ... I also needed a place where I could use the fantastic steam train that Jessatr built long ago.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Sabenza-00d.jpg&hash=0fcb9e5f26531db0fc7f170c7113940408aedba8)

All in all this lot is very special to me and I always smile broadly when it is offered.

Hope you like it ...

Thanks for the kind comments.

Thanks for the comments ...

I will release all the lots I have made for Shosaloza ...

I am in the final stages of the game now and I need to be very creative to get the numbers in without trashing the environment and in quad D4 and C3 I am taking to the water ... hence the Malta collection.

I decided to bundle the whole set together instead of releasing them one by one.

I am busy cleaning up the SG ditches I made and the TRANSITION pieces are mostly done.

@ Joel ... I made the BAT to work like that.
@ Vester ... yep it is a Mika building.
@ Rayden ... coming from you it is a big compliment for me. You have inspired me a lot.

Thanks for the comments ...

The city of Moya ... in quad C4 ... 6,500 Sims.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00.jpg&hash=71f7843eb8f31680bef830e3071138536f4398af)

The city of Moya is mainly a Tourist destination and many Sims have their weekend and holiday homes here in the crisp mountain air. The city is not keen on high density and it is rare to see a residential stand that is deeper than 2 tiles. The vast majority of homes are on single tiles. There is no Industrial zoning and everything is based on commerce.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00a.jpg&hash=89cbbf91f4a34ba1791d2484ef72c7647a9fed07)
In the secluded valley in the South Western corner is this Monastry ... during the migrant invasion of the neighbouring Sabensa the monks were forced to arm themselves to protect their lives and property and many bloody battles have taken place in the valley ... today there is peace and calm because Matt Taylor was not shy to take the criminals on. The monastry is now a popular tourist destination and the wines from the adjacent vineyards are very popular.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00b.jpg&hash=9bca492a60030dd242a05c52b8b32027119186da)
The Monastry encouraged people to settle on the monastry land and there is a vibrant little community here in this isolated valley.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00c.jpg&hash=c4148b5bf77a45ab40776ccba661e6290694abc0)
With the influx of tourists into the valley it offered new opportunities and this lovely Restaurant was built. The view over the valley is breathtaking and the food is top notch. Rumour has it that the monks uses rock pigeons for target practice but that is just a rumour ... the menu clearly states that all game on offer is from captive breeding programs ... who will ever know.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00d.jpg&hash=989321dec4021c56823b61e4d250346819923ee3)
A lovely little community center with a library, clinic and school.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00e.jpg&hash=d30d7a9d1b4e6b7e2f4688e34b8dce7057896c13)
The dam is a popular gathering spot and the "captive" bred salmon is very popular ... however ... residents are urged to avoid eating the fish that glows in the dark.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Moya-00f.jpg&hash=eb74e4a58bab9f5f0edecec34f1e970acc803d0d)
The dam wall is the pride and joy of the local residents ... after all ... they paid for it.

I will be back soon with more pictures from the city of Moya.

Damn, what a dam!  ::)
Very nice little country town. Not a small accomplishment considering how steep the terrain is.  :)

Thanks for the comments ...

This is the first time that I used Jeroni's plopable tree blocks ... the 2x2 and 3x3 ... extensively and I must say my machine is struggling .... the lag is terrible. If I want to continue expanding this city I will have to bulldoze a lot of them.

Do you imply that by putting trees on lot it is more RAM/CPU useage intensive than using them as god/mayor trees ?
Title: Re: CSX Plays on Shosaloza
Post by: Colyn on March 12, 2007, 12:40:11 AM
I don't know if it makes a difference ... all I am saying is that I used the plop lots with trees extensively in this city and my machine is struggling.

I think we have to attach an OG to the plop trees so that we can count how many of them we have and look where the lag gets crazy.
Title: Re: CSX Plays on Shosaloza
Post by: BarbyW on March 12, 2007, 01:12:17 AM
I also found that putting a lot of God mode trees also lagged my machine. For Shosaloza I used the trees extensively at the start but later didn't add the trees until I wanted pictures for the MD.

Nice update, your landscaping looks very natural. I like jeronij's new canals and how you've used them. Excellent looking waterfalls and dam too.

I find trees also to cause lag. Well props of any kind actually if there are large numbers of them. Also the effects used in waterfalls can cause lag. I used quite a few in mine and that city struggles on my pc. But aren't waterfalls fun to make though?

Nice work Colyn, really nice. Nothing to point out. The dam is very well laid out, as for everything else. The lag could be also caused by the water effects like Sam mentioned it. ;)

I adore these updates Colyn. When I can get myself away from work (rare these days) I steal a few moments in Shozlosa  &apls  :)

As for the lag, yes I hear you.

My PC has only 512MB of ram and 940MB of datpacked plugins and I have the deciduous tree lots everywhere.

They, and the NAM, do lag the system now that I'm close to 700K on all of those large tiles. When one tile hits about 120K it becomes very noticeable, but the Datpacker has made things much more tolerable.

Matt Taylor took just one look at Yoder's creation and he was on the phone ... he wanted it and he wanted it bad. His problem was it must fit in with the JRJ Canals ...

Here is the CSX Twisted version ...

And Jeronimo del Gado's house is also a really nice and pleasant house to live.... ;)

Thanks for the comments ...

Jeronimo del Gado is doing what he promised ...

"Lilly Lulu" is the first venture was to help his old sweetheart Lulu to set up a top of the line eating and drinking place on a piece of wetland, wasteland that was created by the development of the Spotted Duck pond. The three decks fits in perfectly and people come from all over the region to eat the grilled pigeons ... the house speciality is roasted Shosaloza Duck with a sweet Eucalyptus sauce and crunchy fritters.

Guests are warned not to drink too much and step off the boardwalks ... the resident anaconda ... nicknamed "Sock" is known to ignore the command "Go AWAY!"

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Cape%2520Vidal-06a.jpg&hash=1c80ea829fe85f6a2ad1c31cf037ee123067060f)

At night is when the really good things come to the tables.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Cape%2520Vidal-06b.jpg&hash=b03e6f0e882f565e783fae27fc6ed502170196fc)

Seeing the numbers that Lulu was bringing in made Lee's eye glisten ... nobody knows exactly how he managed to get his hands on the piece of land but rumour has it that he and Jeronimo has a history ... what is in that history is still a mistery but who cares ... he serves the best Flapjacks in the region and it was no wonder the little deck cafe quickly becam known as "Flippin Lee" ... however ... there is a rumour ... yes another one ... that the name comes from the fact that every now and then Lee takes a pot shot at a duck on the pond and then Jeronimo just shales his head and grunt ... "Flippin Lee!"

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Cape%2520Vidal-06c.jpg&hash=6b5c6cf98f12b61a45d8e29a3652a2702f997833)

As you all can see Spotted DUck Pond is really a very nice place to be.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nelspruitlink.co.za%2FSC4Bucket%2FSHZ%2520Cape%2520Vidal-06d.jpg&hash=711d93e1d8781f9797067f830c5ffd431fa0e0a8)

Recently the Shosaloza Tourism Board decided to go on a National campaign to promote Shosaloza ...

In the first session they focussed on the potential for wealth because they want to draw more industrialists into the region. They chose to feature the home of one of Bigbend's prominent citizens ... the Anna Dean Mansion.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FAnna%2520Dean.jpg&hash=c61a0e26dbeb7d0b414f4894fcfaafe4f3394304)

This advert made it into the People's Choice Awards competition but did not win anything.

They also featured the Whitemarsh Hall ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FWhitemarsh%2520Hall_800.jpg&hash=ef38516e42e3c5c45624ee20b422d4ed69c74a26)

This advert did not make it into the People's Choice award competition.

The STB is very happy from the responses they got to this campaign and the next one is now in the planning stages ... I hpe you enjoyed this little interlude.

The Regional Management Commitee has decided that it is time for Shosaloza to get a proper place for the legislature ...

The city of Cape Vidal was selected and the new building stands proudly ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FAbsolute%2520Power_800.jpg&hash=0380c18cc71a44ca7438ca58958533854ff9792a)

The festivities at the grand opening lasted for 5 days and was concluded with an endurance swimming race up and down the large lake.

Rumour has it that quite a few less Sims came out of the lake than what went into it ...

Matt Taylor's only comment was ...

Old Albert de Hubard just smiled ... at last he has found the perfect place for his two pet anacondas and now he can once again feel comfortable when his grand children comes to visit and wants to swim in his swimming pool.

He stopped at Finger licking on his way home and this time the owner was quite surprised that Albert did not ask for some dead chickens.

"Did your snakes die ?"

"Nope ... they just found a new home."

"Ok ... but do me a favour ... dish some of my flyers out in the village where you stay"

"Sure thing ..."

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FFingerlicking_800.jpg&hash=d8493035cecddbdf8cdf433d02e96a1d38ac313f)

Albert looked at the flyer and grinned ... for many years he made a stop at this spot every week ... now he can come here and actually enjoy the food.

In the city of Cape Vidal Matt Taylor gave in to some pressure from the BIG MONEY and the designers and builders of the region was given free reign. Some really innovative work is done in this city that received just a narrow strip of land but a vast ocean. Pressure to do land reclaiming was eventually too much and Matt gave in ... ONE CONDITION ... the original land mass must not be trashed.

Well the developers knew Matt well enough not to mess with him and they all pitched in to set the scene for the GREAT SEA INVASION ...

First tract to fix was the short section at the ferry station.

Well Tourism figures showed that the advertising campaign was working so the money was pushed and more adverts were made ...

Dollardrive was done to show the world that it is possible to make good money and live the good life in Shosaloza.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FDownhill_800.jpg&hash=4acf12b5bcf286e01dfe972fa89769c8d9a6dc73)
Downhill was done to promote the beauty and peacefullness of the region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FImage_of_Day%2FHunt%2520Leuchar_800.jpg&hash=07dc137e61767a16c93f2142affca24a18dde708)
Hunt Leuschar - another majestic mansion was built in the region.

Hopefully this latest series of adverts will draw even more tourists to Shosaloza ... who knows ... let's see what happens.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. ;) and thank you all for the nice comments.

The Shosaloza Tourism Board is proud to show the two posters that made it to the top in the People's Choice Awards ... rumour has it that there were lots of drinking and eating at the after party and that the Reverand made a fiery speech at the offices.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripwired.co.za%2FJCS_Bucket%2FSC4D%2FPhotocomp%2FSC4D%2520HoF04.jpg&hash=2affa2ed68b8a62bd74379b72a1d8ba7aa22a601)

"Sundowner"

There is a definite boom in the Tourism sector and Matt Taylor is encouriging the Sims the make an effort to try and lure the tourists into the more remote parts of the region.

Enjoy.

With the boom in tourism the demand on existing facilities are just too much and Matt Taylor approved the CSX Kwanyoni project very quickly.

The first building is a Restaurant/Grill that will serve just the best the Region can deliver.

Well with the Kwanyoni project approved the Environment Protection Agency jumped in and started screaming about spoiling the landscape with ugly structures so Matt Taylor called on his friends ... he wanted "softer" bridges.

This is what is now on the drawing boards ...

Looks promising but we will have to wait and see ...
