Title: Badsim's testing ground .
Post by: Badsim on October 01, 2009, 04:07:27 AM
Welcome to my laboratory ,

As the title of this thread suggest it , this is the place where , while The Triumphal Way progresses will be shown in the main thread , I'll show my LotEditing work & experiments  , giving you more informations , requesting opinions , advices or/and help if necessary .

This project will start from Place de la Concorde to radiate then to the Champs Elysées on the left and Tuileries'garden on the right .
This is the last picture of Place de la Concorde I was working on  , with the available material - textures and props -  :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F831%2Fbadsimstudio001.jpg&hash=e9b850bc7aad9244e079611d2f0f59d5f0ae1178)

After have debated  with David and Vincent , we finally decided that the best way to be accurate and to present a right scaled version of Place de la Concorde is to BAT it -  esplanades and roadways as props , taking as example what Porkissimo did with Eglise de la Madeleine , or xannepan with Gare du Nord :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F5536%2Fbadsimstudio013c.jpg&hash=b4e3c4444f620f07c55cc9c310e61bbedcd831e8)

That's current David's work , while Vincent re-exports his  Concorde's props , better scaled and HD . The London Eye ( Yoder ) was just a test , but is obviously too big for that use , just like that obelisk from Antoine . I'm going to use the one Vincent has made for this project ...

So , the draft above is just good enough for the trash can ...

That other outdated picture show another great improvement coming just at time from mrtnrln : http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22506

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F5880%2Fbadsimstudio002.jpg&hash=6be682fe72004f7b7016c3b9f00950b3b7ea89d5)

His french Mod for traffic lights ( thank you very much ) is good enough to match these Maxime (citymax )'s parisian props ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F9665%2Fbadsimstudio003.jpg&hash=1cf7e5e5f3ddc076b4f1c5d4fd10134c4430d40f)

citymax's pack is available here ; http://www.toutsimcities.com/downloads.php?view=1569 .

Waiting for Concorde's props from David & Vincent , I'm currently working the area between Place de la Concorde and the Seine :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg8.imageshack.us%2Fimg8%2F2751%2Fbadsimstudio005.jpg&hash=a50766bed6f0f870d5ac2037b8a0b3cc05ca0590)

A lot of difficulties and some compromises in perspective with MAXIS' avenues as the real ones around the Place de la  Concorde are one-way avenues ...

I would need several things to get a better result :

- Some better houseboat models ... Hey Derry ( TTC ) ! I need that beauty urgently ! ( and some others , if possible ... )

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F8239%2Fbadsimstudio009.jpg&hash=c8da7ea2e8d9ff86ecfb82ad0857bb6a4e99182b)

- That water Mod to represent the Seine , with a zero transparency ( David is working on it ) :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F8048%2Fbadsimstudio010.jpg&hash=3883d3c6e26100db2641dd1a779f5b3f6935236c)

I have also started the LotEditing of Hotel de Crillon ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F6403%2Fbadsimstudio011.jpg&hash=8b4469339bdff14b7ca68dca9689f60b48448865)

« Batiments de la Concorde » From  Debussyman , on the LEX .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F7779%2Fbadsimstudio012.jpg&hash=470c6dd2fa195b3dc10cf6eb85d3bb4a81554bc0)

Last precision , but not the smaller one , I didn't go to Paris since at least 15 years ... Thanks to the Web , I'm going to work with GoogleEarth , Paris3D  from  Lespagesjaunes.fr and all pictures I can find browsing the Web ... if you have any interesting links , or personal good and detailed pictures of the concerned places along the Axis , thanks to let me know .

I'm also writing  a tutorial about how to get a full scene under a bridge ( Textures and props , but no transit )

To the next .

Cédric .

Quite the project you got going here ;)

Ah yes the canal barges. Well there's a slight problem concerning that particular model. It was on a hdd that crashed &mmm
but all is not lost ;D

Paul (Paroch) has a copy that I gave him as a pressie for his md so I shoot him a pm and hopefully I can get a copy of it for you.
And I am still trying to finish some new ones I've started ::) :D

I look forward to seeing what you you do next.

First:
Your eye to detail is unbelievable  &apls
I'm really looking forward to the progress of this project

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=48.865556~2.321111&style=h&lvl=16&sp=Point.48.865556_2.321111_landmark___

Just click on "Birds eye view" (or however it is called in your language).
I think it can be quite helpful if the normal view or the street view of Google don't show everything and you need to have a better view on it.
I guess you already knew that site, but just in case you didn't.

Good luck,

Fabian

Thanks Derry , for these firstly sad ... and then excellent news !  ;D

Fabian , I'm having a look to your link ... it seems there's a program to install to get the 3D view , I'm in the process to install it , but the 2D view with a lot of informations is already a must to have .
Well , with these modern tools , it would be better to say that my patience is unbelievable !  ;D

Thank you both , very much !

Cedric I am interested and most captivated for sure what you got going on here!!!

I'm still asking myself if there is a Mod that supress all the props on a traffic lot (I mean : lamps, flora... ) without having to modify the T21 properties?

I find rather easier to use the LE than to obtain a random assembly of props I can't choose. Has anyone heard about a such thing?

PS : I'm really interested in this "no transparancy" Mod you're on, David... Really...  ;D

There's indeed a NoJunk Mod from Pegasus ( Stex ) . I intended to use it there ( I've got it since a long time , sleeping out my Plugins Folder ) but , and I don't know why , it doesn't work properly anymore .... it simply changes these $$ streetlamps to the $ ones , those in wood , beurk !  :D
When I tried it , years ago , it was working fine ... ::)

Nice to see you there , finally ...  ;D

How to get a full eye-candy ( Textures and props , but no transit )  scene under a bridge .

To illustrate that tutorial , I'm going to use the scene shown above .
This is the original scene , just like you can get it with normal Lots :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F3606%2Fbadsimstudio014.jpg&hash=faed4176b8e06d31a9c674547d7156c19799752b)

The first technique to apply is re-sizing a Lot . Of course , that needs you have taken care of the orientation of the Lot to re-size ... In that case :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F5200%2Fbadsimstudio015.jpg&hash=77c46a68e6bd602ccc784bfc456b62038fbb6660)

To extend under the bridge , this Lot has to be re-sized for 2 tiles more ,

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F4163%2Fbadsimstudio016.jpg&hash=8eac8dd890f65fce24559c6b0c1739bd451cd250)

Now , you can add the corresponding base textures & overlays ,

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F3319%2Fbadsimstudio017.jpg&hash=aa9b067431883913f69215231c4d75643800b703)

An then , add the props you want to get under the bridge ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F7564%2Fbadsimstudio018.jpg&hash=f65ee160d299b13ed81ab519f8bca3e493634999)

Use the « Save » button , quit LE and launch SC4 , this is the immediate result you'll get :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F6996%2Fbadsimstudio019.jpg&hash=63216991f0c97f408afc30d224f2faeb98b6362a)

The new base textures & overlays are appearing automatically on the extension , but , as you can see , not the added props  .

That's time to apply the second technique . That technique has been discovered and used first by Paul (Squidi) in his  geat MD « Orlach » .

Save your scene like it is before to go to the regional view where you'll find the graphic settings .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg23.imageshack.us%2Fimg23%2F9040%2Fbadsimstudio021.jpg&hash=85df2866ac942b83b08e8bd44fc3396e8bdd25d0)

Change them from  « High » to « Low » . The game needing to be re-started to make these changes effective , re-start it , load your scene . Save again your scene whith graphic settings as « Low » , then go to change them back to « High » . Quit and re-start again the game , and , as a miracle ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F6169%2Fbadsimstudio020.jpg&hash=97eb3f07168916c33f51be5f9f9de7fb9ec8db19)

... the new props are here .

Note :
This method only works for adding props , it doesn't work for the removal or  positioning changes of  any props .

You can use these techniques for many other uses , according to your imagination .

Thanks to Paul , I miss him and his spectacular  Orlach  , which I invite you to visit here , among the  archived MDs ; http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2865.0 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2865.0)

To the next .

Cédric .

First, good tut badsim.
Secondly, there is a way to visually connect the other avenues to that nonfunctional one, with the puzzle piece trick.

Having a look at what you were working on ,

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F3071%2Fbadsimstudio023.jpg&hash=08dab4cb445eeb0004a2d285329530c2cccfc541)

All I can say , Maxime , is that I don't like that much my embankements either ... this is precisely after have seen some works like the one above that I invited you to join the team ... but I simply notice that this work hasn't  progressed since July 2008 . That's a pity but I ( We, as a team) can't wait any longer and I know you're really busy with RL ... Now , if you have any suggestions about better textures to use , do not hesitate to tell me .

I received your props indeed , thank you .

************************************************************************

Some progresses ...

Firstly , the first large city tile of the Triumphal Way has been set up . The only terraforming has been to dig the Seine , deeper than I previously thought . The bend of the Seine is voluntarily angular but , fortunately , the angle is nearly the same than the real one . Some avenues have been set up as well , some of them are corresponding to the real ones , some others are fictive and temporary , just to animate the scene with traffic generators .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F9646%2Fbadsimstudio025.jpg&hash=089efef942383f0a2998b9cafdbe94a5dd540034)

And , as you can see , the houseboats aren't looking like floating in the air anymore ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F6949%2Fbadsimstudio028.jpg&hash=e18840ff000252a1815760c40967bdf100e7c987)

That area is almost finished .

Firstly , thank you for your attention here, Jeroni. The houseboats placement on water is better , using the sea level , than with canals ... It was not so complicated , just several hours of tests before to find with LE the proper elevation of each of them . ::)

I'm not familiar with the puzzle pieces from the NAM - my bad , so what I intend to do about the plaza ( still just a draft ), is , after have divided it in 3 Lots due to the amont of props expected , to partially TE them , so they'll look connected . The complex avenues network around the plaza will be a mix of eye-candy and functional ones . Thanks for your interest .

No , Barbara , I haven't got that file in my plugins , but I'm assuming that despite the fact that mod has a zzz prefix , it conflicts with another one ... I'll made some further searches , as I would really need it to work . Nonetheless , thanks for your help . :)

Hi ,

Time to present here the Seine with David's water Mod . After many tests about different values , I think have found the right one to get the proper transparency . I'm progressing along Port des Tuileries ... very slowly , as I've decided to give attention to my Lots more than ever . All textures & overlays have been changed , trying to better match with Vincent's embankement set to come .
On the other side of the avenue along the Seine, the Lot with trees is just a prefiguring one about what will be Tuileries' garden .

The closer view shows the water transparency ... you can see the stairs going down in the water . ::)

These stairs props from MAS71 have to be placed step by step , I need to rework them as the slope going under water isn't the same than the one going up to the avenue ... extremely tedious . $%Grinno$%

Later .

Cédric .

Many thanks for these comments about pictures ... already outdated . ;D

Several improvements since this morning .

The sidewalk prop (from xannepan) has been replaced by a seaport prop (from NOB) .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg517.imageshack.us%2Fimg517%2F4681%2Fbadsimstudio039.jpg&hash=2aebcc21afae5438c22e38ae48b7f75fa1387b43)

I've added a culvert ( from Chrisadams ) ... below the water-line . Search for it and you'll find it . :P

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg517.imageshack.us%2Fimg517%2F3349%2Fbadsimstudio041.jpg&hash=0cf82b58ef7ab923f5d258537c1a6648ff351ea9)

I've added fishermen (from Simgoober) .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg517.imageshack.us%2Fimg517%2F7744%2Fbadsimstudio042.jpg&hash=aba98923804a3334b19b79b09b5f6c9100ec0228)

Because , yeah folks , there're seagulls & fishermen in Paris . ;D

Amazing to see on that one , David , how the Seine looks like your water Mod ( and not the opposite  $%Grinno$% )

There're brown bullheads in the Seine weighing more than 60 Kg ... :o

To end that post , a view showing the strangeness of these Lots ; « Boats in the air » ... ::)

I think I've got enough details now , I can progress that way along the Seine .
To the next .

Cédric.

Cédric, this looks fantastic!  &apls  In the fourth pic, you can see that the end of the jetty is visible below the houseboat, but the rest is simply wonderful - I was in Paris last April, and it really looks exactly like that. I didn't know that there were such huge fish in the Seine, though.

It's true that Cédric lots are an awesome re-creation of the actual place :o. The only difference is that in a lot of place (like in your picture), the Seine walls are vertical, but it is impossible to solve that without a BAT.

Yeeepeee for Cedric &hlp. I love the fisherman , the riverboats (very good choice amongts what we have, which is very few) and the trees : I would have used Porky's but I must admit that those are far better in that situation &apls!

Keep going with all those gems.

Hi ,

Firstly , I want to thank everybody who sent that pictures to the HoF , I think that there was a misunderstanding about what I said to present it . It wasn't a picture from the T.W. Team but for the T.W. Team , just to thank & encourage members of that informal team ... and get a larger audience to the project . Anyhow, I think it's done . ::)

Waiting for many works from the team to progress along Le Louvre or to start the LotEditing of Place de la Concorde , I decided to start to work about Place de La Madeleine . Just two pics about what is just a preliminary work , to delimit what is possible or not .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg202.imageshack.us%2Fimg202%2F7994%2Fbadsimstudio069.jpg&hash=b98887f41ed31c0e64f4776cd0b874f41953ae7a)

As always , many problems to solve ... ;D

j-dub : Firstly I'm glad to see you there . I would have liked to try a Mod like one of yours , but this file is locked :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg688.imageshack.us%2Fimg688%2F7695%2Fbadsimstudio072.jpg&hash=f7e24953c48428a90d495ab3e7989eb911c2862d)

I don't like to ask but I wonder if you wouldn't be interested in making a special Mod for this project , using that kind of textures from Youcef (made especially for that project) :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.generation-city.com%2Ffiles%2Fyoucef%2FTTW%2F6x1route0pave.png&hash=3583d510f3ab26e1e331c12b8fd09b438c9b4421)

Not precisely that one ; don't look at the width but the paved texture itself . The other purpose of a Mod for avenues would be to remove all median stuff on them ... to get a closer looking to real parisian avenues  . Just a thought ...   ::)

Later . ;)

Cédric.

I think I'm going to become totally crazy with that project , if nobody stops me !  ::)

No great and clean views that time , but some pics of the work in progress :
Eglise de la Madeleine' s Lot deconstrustion before reconstruction ... being able so to be more accurate than I previously thought . ;D

Wow Cedric,
I don't want anyone to stop you.  I want to see happens to Cedric when he goes crazy.  Your work must get even more incredible.  ;)
Silly me, but that last screenie you have showed us has opened my eyes a little.  I never thought of taking an ingame pic and displaying it next to the LE program.  Sometimes the easiest things can be over looked and that is exactly what I have doen all these years. ::) Just goes to prove that you can teach an old dog a new trick.  Thanks.
I'm glad that you have change the layout of the roads infront of that one green roofed building, sorry I don't remember it's name.  But even with this change, I wonder if you could use 3 tiles worth of avenue across and than go diagonally south.  If this doesn't make sense to you, I'll try it out later and post a pic of what I mean.  ;)

Robin

May I ask what the name of this prop is?

...but I'm still working on blocks around , adding little details like that , using for the very first time some props from Maxime (Citymax) :

Thanks , Kelis , for that interesting back side of Eglise de La Madeleine 's photography . I'm searching for little details like that artistic exposition ( the head ) , as they make the difference . I've found one as prop from Deadwoods (That's what happens when I go crazy , Robin.) ... so that picture is dedicated to you . If you think you have some others interesting pictures , you can post them as well - not all in once , but a few when they'll correspond to the area I'm working on .

Do not worry about that , Robin , you're not the only one ! I've just discovered  -  l mean « last week » -  a new revolutionary LotEditing method with which the possibilities seem endless ... I'll keep it for myself for the time being , I'll write a tutorial later in french , then , surely , I'll ask for someone to translate it . All I can say is that from now , I'm free from rules like the number of props per Lot , LotEditing diagonals ( no need of offset props) , Transit Enabling ( useless ) and so on  . There isn't anymore any single corner of any tile that I can't touch . I would say that it's the exploitation of a SC4 flaw ... and ,of course , it can be apply only for our own use .
I tried many way to drag the avenue and roads ( one-ways ) layout in front of Eglise de la Madeleine , and trust me : this is really the most satisfying . ::)

Dane : This prop is coming from a prop pack released by Maxime (Citymax) for this project . Link : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2246 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2246)
I could give you the exact name of this prop , but I prefer to advise you about a method you should apply with any new prop pack  you're downloading . Unzip it in a virgin Plugin folder then check it with LE and create immediately a « test » Lot ( if there isn't already one coming with )  with all these new props . Create a new folder out your Plugin folder with all these « test » Lots , so you can transfer them in or out your Plugins , depending if you're LotEditing or playing the game . That inventory work is absolutely necessary , as we can't remember all props names , to save some of our precious time . ;D

Youcef , indeed this prop and texture are something I would like to try . Notably along the Rue Royale ( next area I'm going to work on ) between Place de la Madeleine and Place de la Concorde . So you can send me them using my email adress . Thank you very much !

As already said , a lot of pictures coming soon .... ;D

Cedric .

Well , this update will take more time than expected ... thanks to be patient . I think it's worth the wait . You have to know that I spend currently an average time of 10 hours a day on it . « Get a life » could reply some of you , and  I would understand ...  $%Grinno$%

Just a pic about the level of details ;

As reminder , the original Lot of « Metro Pernety » by Porkissimo :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg59.imageshack.us%2Fimg59%2F3434%2Fbadsimstudio086.jpg&hash=d8608af5a45e600affc4a87794801380cf752f5a)

That work do not only consist in LotEditing , I do some searches before notably with Google StreetView ( The « Café Madeleine » at the angle is real ) , then I have to find the proper props to build all these little scenes of life I've got in mind.

Another teaser . That one is dedicated to Emmanuel (Une_ame) . Emmanuel , I know how much you love Paris , where you grew while now you're living far from it . Your opinion matters as a double one to me ...   ::)

My apologies for having not the time to participate a little more to SC4D forums . David , I've downloaded your Concorde's props ( 20 MB  :o ) , but , at that rythm , I do not expect to work on Place de La Concorde before December . $%Grinno$%
Looking at the unbeatable realism of these props , I don't doubt that Place de La Concorde will be , with Le Louvre , one of the two most outstanding  places of that project .

Cedric, what can I say ?

Obviously, you spend a lot of time studying the pics cause the result is stuning :o. The details (props) are perfect and fit perfectly in the place &apls.

The only point is the flag at the top of the church, are you sure about it ? I can't remember having seen a flag at this place ()what().

Fantastic work Cedric!  &apls &apls &apls
It's really a great pleasure to see you at work, and I think you created a really strong team together with your friends

The amount and quality of details in your lots is really great and I have a little suggestion for you to help to show them in their full beauty:

- Don't use zoom 6. It gives a blurry look and jagged edges along contrasting lines. When you are in zoom 5, press Ctrl X and then use a command Sizeof (for example if you will type Sizeof 1,5 your picture will increase it's size by 1,5). Sizeof between 1,2 and 1,3 works pretty well, details are better visible and their quality is still good. you can also try Sizeof 1,5.
(Edit: Zoom 5 + Sizeof 2 = zoom 6)

You can also try another method, you can buy Photo Zoom Pro 2. It is an excellent program to enlarging pictures and it is not very expensive. I played with it a bit lately (unfortunately I haven't time to make an update and show pictures  ::)) and I'm very satisfied with results.

O.K. folks , you won ...  ::)

I didn't want to show these pictures of the whole place before to have finished it , but I have to admit it will take me 3 or 4 weeks more , so ...

The site from Google :

I'm working on everything at the same time , radiating from Eglise de la Madeleine as center , to add the details . The most difficult is just to find where to stop around , I do not intend to recreate the whole Paris !  $%Grinno$%

Emmanuel : Your desires are orders , sir ... *** Flag removed ***  This is why I want you to correct me where I'm wrong . Simply , I noticed there're a lot more French flags on parisian roofs than I thought , but , indeed , I should have remembered this is ... a church . And we don't joke here with secularism !  :D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg4.imageshack.us%2Fimg4%2F2225%2Fbadsimstudio088.jpg&hash=10d83130ceb2935082aef4334947b6dcae122d12)

David : Oh my David , what have you done !?!  :'( Thank you so much ... don't know what to say either . I know your flame for that project , I know we are growing there together but I don't know where we're going ... and that's too late to come back . Props or BATs ? Nothing in mind to suggest you for the time being ... if ... if I were you ... I would become the next Porkissimo . There's not a single day I'm not thinking about him . On past week I sent Eric (Porkie) a message . I told him all my gratefulness , requesting nothing , and whishing him his life is as close as possible than he dreamed it . ::)

Carlos : Oh my Carlos , what have we done ?!?  :'( Thank you so much for these words , I know they mean a lot from a discreet mind like your ... I just hope our motivations - and recklessness - will keep on feed themselves and each other . $%Grinno$%

Andreas : Thanks a lot mate ! Hmmmmm ... CXL ... CXL will never live enough long . It will die before , alone or killed by another more superb game . Monte Christo is CXL , WE are SC4 . And it will never happen again . My prediction . But I've never been good with predictions ... :D

Adam : How d'you do , my « old » friend ?  :) Nice to have you there with always something to teach me . What a discovery , indeed ! I'm playing with that new function ... depending the zoom level , it seems better to reduce than to enlarge ... I need some practice but thank you from now for that excellent teaching !

Thank you too , for all others comments ... there're all touching and I enjoy that kind of support and enthusiasm . Bernhard , I just hope your're not that serious ... I use to read your posts as I know I'll always find something interesting to see or to read ! Yes , I know ; I should comment more often ... I'm not the only one enjoying support and enthusiasm ... I know . ::)

I wanna use Gizmo's Mod for the Triumphal Way . Alas , it reveals all missing lightings . Some props have surely badly configured .SC4DESC files , some others - due to their Occupant Size - are overhanging their Lot . Have to check up and correct all that , using Plugin Manager and Ilive Reader . A perfectionist way of life ...

Please , do not feel obliged to comment  each time I post , if you don't want to get quickly tired of repeating « Unbelievable » , I know the views counter is running fast and that's enough to make me happy .

I would say ... yes! Unbelievable!  ;D

By the way it's great, in fact it's more than amazing...

And that would be a great step on if you could find a trick to remove all the props and the grass strip in the middle of avenues.
More than that your idea of re-texturing the roads and avenues in a more parisian style is a great idea. I hope someone will find time to do it.

So just keep impress us...  &apls

Your work is spectacular, I say it but it does not need to be said  $%Grinno$%

Only one very minor flaw I can see--at least 90% of Parisian cars are black, white, grey or silver. I noticed this the other day and knowing your love of perfection, I just wanted to let you know that your traffic is too colorful--or Parisians are too drab in their taste ;)

Hello , in there ...

I've worked about Place de la Madeleine , but this is not the subject of this post ... I think I'll come back later on Place de la Madeleine to finish it . For the time being , as I recieved a first batch of props for Place de La Concorde from David  and  Vincent , I've stated to LotEdit Place de la Concorde part 1 ( The place will be divided in 3 Lots ) . That's a  complex work trying to keep on being accurate with the avenues/one-ways layout and traffic of the real one . The  roadway between the place and Hôtel Crillon  is an overhanging prop re-covering  an one-way ... and at the same time , this Lot is transit enabled for an avenue crossing that one-way and entering the place . That's really hard to reproduce the famous Olympian traffic jam , even with strong traffic generators ... but this is only an early view of what should be the final result . Then , I hope you'll not able to tell at the first look what is static, what is moving !  $%Grinno$%

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg40.imageshack.us%2Fimg40%2F8878%2Fconcordepart1.jpg&hash=f23152c5df4c5318faf849d9a7224813312162a5)

David ; as you can see , I have had to renounce to use the sidewalks props as I get a problem of shadow for the others props placed on them .  ::) That said , your photo realistic textures are enough excellent and convincing to go without them  ... I'm waiting for the others props to start as well part 2 & 3 . ;D

On a side note , I really hope we find someone to release a corresponding avenues Mod . ::)

I'm busy too with some works for Vincent , so do not expect spectacular progresses before December .

Thanks for your comments & attention .

Cédric.

These are exceptionally good pictures in a way that inspires enthusiasm. The attention to the smallest details brings the scene to life. The road and pavement textures are wonderful. I just sat at my computer screen, looked, studied, and thought that this series of pictures was as close to real life (in fact, better than real life) as one can get.

Hello ,

Many thanks for these comments . :)

David and me having had to solve some props joins and textures problems before I start the LotEditing of Place de la Concorde Lot N°3 ( David is currently re-exporting them ... ) , I would like to reply about the possible creation of a typical parisian Mod for avenues & roads ... Of course it would be the perfect solution but , alas , the creation of a such Mod is far above my competences . I don't doubt that , with patience and very close help , I could learn how to make it , but so far , reading the few basic tutorials I've found , they're not enough basic and detailed , compared to my poor knowledge about T21 examplars and limited ease - the least I can say - with english langage ...  ::)

That's a real pity while I'm able to show you what it would be ... through my experiments about Rue Royale:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg403.imageshack.us%2Fimg403%2F5599%2Fbadsimstudio113.jpg&hash=c7272a9cb9dfbf7db054e1c6cf85c4ea6a854c47)

This result has been acquired by changing the avenue by one-ways ( to avoid any median stuff to appear .... ) and then , extending Hotel Crillon's Lot with Youcef's great paved textures ... I think I'll be bound to act like that everywhere it will be possible . $%Grinno$%

Concerning  requests about the exact roads network of Place de la Concorde , I will reply as well when the place will be finished ... As everybody know , 2 transit enabled Lots can't be put together , but I've got several others solutions in mind to solve that and need to experiment them . Another of my preoccupation being to avoid some things to appear like traffic lights which would be here out of place ...

But , after all , that's rather interesting challenges . I just hope the results will keep on being so ... babuloziwad .... ::) $%Grinno$% ;D

I would say : simply great, simply cedric!  &apls

I love the way the avenues are rendered and the use of traffic lights.

My only remarque will be the to colorful cars you use (including automatas)
this is the point that could threaten the realism of this master piece!

Beware not to launch a new CityBuilder if you find out that the grid is too unperfect :D :D!

Well , I think I need to correct several misunderstandings ... I do not have found a way to put 2 transit enabled Lots together , I have found the way to not use transit enabled Lots ... that's not the same thing at all . By resizing Lots ( in every way , extension then reduction ) as props on a saved Lot in a city stay even if you remove them with LE ... and they will stay endlessly except if you bulldoze the tile where they stand . That's a complementary method to Squidi's one to make appear new props on an extended Lot ... for the serious expert MODers of the game , this is surely not a serious method of LotEditing ; to get the result I'm able to get , that's the only serious & possible method . And , as I already said , the possibilities of this « unofficial » method are just limited by your own imagination .

Another misunderstanding , Emmanuel : I'm not going to release a parisian Mod for avenues & roads , I just apply another property of extended Lots to recover the avenues of the game textures by those I decide to .

Having lost my internet connection ( once more ... ) for several days , so without Google StreetView , I've been unable to progress as I would have liked to . I took that occasion to move the whole Madeleine district which was built too far from Place de la Concorde . It has been a very boring work as , working here with many extended then reduced Lots , I have had to repeat the process for each and all of these Lots ... this complex move isn't finished , and I'm going to release the juncture between Place de la Madeleine and Place de la Concorde (Rue Royale) .

We have found a  problem of width coordination between David's Concorde prop and Youcef's Champs-Elysées textures but we are in the process to solve it .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg266.imageshack.us%2Fimg266%2F8289%2Fbadsimstudio117.jpg&hash=f236743a2e6a1f7cf10d3ebaa41d087ec804ddde)

The « Horses from Marly » should be soon released by David , and  I have received  the missing Obelisk for Place de la Concorde from Vincent . I hope both David & Vincent will present them in their respective thread . ::)

Plus , you can expect many others surprises from that totally crazy team ... $%Grinno$%

Well, I meant this one:

Though the one you showed also is an improvement, but that one is fourth from below, not second:
NumberEnglishFrench
1OneUn
2TwoDeux
3ThreeTroi
4FourQuatre
5FiveCinq

Nevertheless, those pictures look real good, though I'm still able of identifying them as SC4. I think the OWRs are the problem.

I don't know how you manage to have that kind of pics, I asume you must have tens of personal lots and all the latest parisian props but still :-[, some stuffs are unexplanable too me (the white zebras for the bus, for the ped xing, the clear middle center for the avenues, how about the large RATP bus ? never see this one anywhere, the car park entrance, etc).

I gave several informations about how I'm now working everywhere , but I've to admit that these informations are fragmented , so this is that we can name a tutorial :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg3.imageshack.us%2Fimg3%2F5450%2Fbadsimstudio127.jpg&hash=690c627b77d5ce3ff920efccb4dbe2b58361104c)

I'm going to show you an example about how I did to LotEdit that pedestrian angular piece of tile among roadways .

First step , for that tutorial , the reproduction of that particular situation :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8463%2Ftuto01extendedlot02.jpg&hash=da7640d688803258e34cb432afbc91e740d6f431)

My « original » version of La Civette from Porkissimo :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F2221%2Ftuto01extendedlot03.jpg&hash=b14ca2ec8771b2391144c44175d10471808bbd8e)

The situation , once that Lot has been plopped :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8894%2Ftuto01extendedlot04.jpg&hash=87c4bc7cc1d2a761674beb7454cae44d73d435bb)

I save and quit , then , I open that Lot again with LotEditor :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F2221%2Ftuto01extendedlot03.jpg&hash=b14ca2ec8771b2391144c44175d10471808bbd8e)

I enlarge it :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F5852%2Ftuto01extendedlot05.jpg&hash=e9ac8028c2d6ee32111825ecd2d055f517d8e088)

I'm going to use some temporary overlays , just to reproduce the ingame layout of the avenue and one-ways ( what means I took pictures of it at various angles ...) :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8727%2Ftuto01extendedlot06.jpg&hash=ab3e6cb627d1dea27f01f98387827032f64b8565)

Now I add some props ( working as close to reality than it is possible to , using Google StreetViews ) :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8671%2Ftuto01extendedlot07.jpg&hash=6d8ede0438fca534e6e451f73f4db73c78c0db5a)

Once that new LotEditing is over , I remove the temporary overlays :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F2076%2Ftuto01extendedlot08.jpg&hash=9603eb205f8bff76d57e96f91c5a1dfa7a5215d5)

But , working not yet with PIM-X but classical LE , I need BaseTextures to save that extended Lot , have chosen a striking one for that example , whatever the one you choose , note its adress :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F1557%2Ftuto01extendedlot09.jpg&hash=1af49067773e833be1b7b21224a5c0aa264a12e7)

I save and launch Ilive Reader to delete the unwanted Base Textures (the complete process can be found here :  http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=23.0
, tutorial by Jeroni himself .):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8646%2Ftuto01extendedlot10.jpg&hash=f102f3ef78e5748584fc12084c103c4adf39349c)

Then , I launch the game and this is the immediat result ; the new overlays are automatically shown , but not the new props :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F8923%2Ftuto01extendedlot11.jpg&hash=fea4296e45a07c4cf3a1ad92df51447f11c56637)

To make appear the new props , I'm going to apply Squidi's method , by saving that situation in game then changing the graphic settings from High to Low , opening the city tile and saving again , and then changing back graphic settings from Low To High .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg23.imageshack.us%2Fimg23%2F9040%2Fbadsimstudio021.jpg&hash=85df2866ac942b83b08e8bd44fc3396e8bdd25d0)

Next time you launch the city tile , the new props on the extended Lot are now shown :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F9361%2Ftuto01extendedlot12.jpg&hash=98e2ac6588384111c8492fab47b0da061324e3ad)

Once you're at that step , untill you don't save the city tile , you can still modify the Lot with LotEditor , the changes will be automatically shown without repeating the process of graphic settings . Once you've saved the city tile , that's too late : the result is definitive .

That's a tiedous method , I know , but that's the only one to LotEdit that kind of situation . Rather look at the benefits : you can LotEdit everywhere , without offset props for diagonals , without any transit enabling ... For the Madeleine district , I did apply that method for each & all Lots . And there's absolutely no transit enabling in that whole district ...

I took an example requesting overlays , but when I need to add only props on an extended Lot , once the new props are saved in game , I go back to LE to reduce back the Lot to its original sizes and so I remove the additional props . Props saved that way stay in game as long as you don't bulldoze the concerned tile where they stand .

Well ... am I clear enough , and , most of all ... who will try that adventure ?  ;D

Cédric.

Edited for the missing picture ... not the only one as it seems ... imageshack !  $%Grinno$%

Now, I got it. TY. You forget to notice that you change about every base texture of your dowloaded parisian BATs. That's what I was thinking, the plugin must be HUGE :o, full of custom lots !

Another question, where did you get that nice white stripped Ped Xing  ()what() ?

One reply ... speak about a success ...  ::)

I know I told you "Do not feel obliged to comment Umbelievable ! " at each update , but concerning a tutorial ... a "thank you " or a "interesting" would have been good to hear .

Well , Emmanuel , I'm assuming you're asking about an overlay coming Gare du Nord (Xannepan , first version on the STEX )

I'm sorry for not posting earlier, Cedric, but I have just been staring in awe and silence of your mastery of the LE  :o

There's just so much to look at; trucks exiting parking spaces onto the streets, scaffolding set up on a renovated building, buses ready to pick up passengers the list goes on and on! I like how you worded your tutorial; I've been using this technique myself for quite awhile now and I could not have worded it better myself. I'm eagerly waiting for more miracles from your Lot Editor!

Maxime ( Citymax ) is currently working on the Moding of T21 examplars . You're welcome !!  ;D

Seriously, this is an incredible sum-up of all the projects of the team. The pics you choose are awesome and very instructive: I discover stuff I wasn't aware off ! The diago angle hausmannian building (N1_2881) is a very good idea and what can we write after seeing Orange's Grand Palais ??? Amazing team work !!!

Lot of talents around one project  :)

Good stuffs from every one, I am amazed by Orange Grand Palais and fountains from Vnaoned  ::)

I am glad to see you there as you said us few weeks ago .

About my work:
I worked again on "cut" trees with new versions and of course 3dsmax, we will see about the size and others things. Which concerns the cars props the problem is that I must to re-work all models with new scale what could be a problem because R6 uses another one so maybe he has more time than me, and is more able to do this pack we will see together.

Anyway I am ready to continue this fabulous baby.  :)

Still more car props to add to render the famous olympic traffic jam of this giant roundabout ,  complementing  the partial Transit Enabling ... and then the third Lot to build as well ... See you soon with the result & a complete set of views . ;D

 ???  Did I just see RL in SC4? %confuso

That looks WAY TOO real for me, even for SC4!!! ?=mad)=

You man, are a man man and what I mean by that is a good thing.  You've just produced some artistic work right there.  Do you do professional modeling by any chance?

What?   :shocked2:

I won't be able to take it if that is automata going through that lot.  Are those pedestrians timed with the cars waiting for them?

That image is so very life-like, almost as if I was in Paris at this very moment (I wish at least.. :P) !

Kelis ( I love your similar work about Berlin ...  :) ), the way I work with La Concorde ( 4 very non conventional Lots , if you read this thread and not only look at pictures ) makes impossible any upload . That said , all props being from Vnaoned & Orange , they could upload a prop pack so people could do that they want with ... that's their respective decision to do so , or not . I personally think they should . I'm aware this project is generating a lot of desire ... and so I'll militate for .  :-[

Despite what you could think , this isn't a new teaser about the Champs-Elysées entrance from La Concorde ( under construction , waiting for cut trees from Girafe & Horses from Marly from Orange ... ) but a picture about a new way to consider  Traffic Generators from Mikeseith ... simply  replacing plazzas « invisible » buildings ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FTrafficGenerator00.jpg&hash=99d949b4a70e0929f311752667be09340be8d851)

There was no other possiblities there , and that works like a dream ... there are now 4 invisible Traffic Generators on or near Place de la Concorde .

Cut trees expected from Antoine having been already shown there , time to present Horses from Marly ( Castle ) expected from David ;

Lions are amazing great job from my rabbit  :P

Umm, ok how did you do that? I'm guessing like an overhang lot with roads underneath right?

You're right ...  ;D

Time for some news  .

Firstly ( and as reminder ... ) a Google Earth view about the extent of the site under construction  :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FCaptureConcorde01.jpg&hash=5b4befc8cca135fc7a8040b58f8c447d59275dda)

... and/or the extent of the damage : :P

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FBadsimstudio138.jpg&hash=51224246c32e3483dc01ef8f13afcfc749bac6c0)

Winter views aren't my favorites ones  , far from there  , but they're the only possibility to see some details under the trees , notably here the Voie Georges Pompidou ( a road diverging from Champs-Elysées to an underpass to avoid Place de la Concorde ) ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FBadsimstudio139.jpg&hash=7eedd6ccd5353a2eec182341efec1eed14aaa7b2)

Whereas autumn views are always pure pleasure ... ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FBadsimstudio140.jpg&hash=3a7df86ac96281575bd98e9bd696f3e8c743d6e7)

I'm progressing slowly , as you can see . The parcs along Champs-Elysées  are a true pain in the ass to reproduce , mainly because I don't find a lot of informations & views about them , but also because I have to deal with the grassy overlays available ... Now, I'm searching for a BAT able to represent almost properly the Pavillon Ledoyen , now so close ...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F1%2F198038%2FPavillonLedoyen01.jpg&hash=2e7dcf56a9be4acfd6e6a8e381d44b61bf5fed7c)

This famous restaurant surrounded by a parc would deserve to be BATed ...  ::)

Later . ;)

A love the details youput in the fall's pic like the removable metal fences. There's always a batch of them ready to be used for a defile or demonstration ;).

What are we gonna do with the nice Orange's TWT logo ? Is it OK to put it in the signature ???

Thanks for your good work.

That was a lot of fun.  Had to go back several times to take in all those details.
Am I a borbid person if I got a chuckle from the car/bus crash?  I'm guessing that you still have a lot of fine tuning to do, because I see a lot of vehicles hitting each other.  I also hope that in some of those building patios you might be able to add some life.
Otherwise, I love it all and can't wait until the next update.
Great work everyone involved. &apls

The work that you and the team have done to make this amazing recreation is just mind-blowing.  I love the detail :)

I'm really glad to see you there , Matt . Your last props pack ( modern sculptures I used in the parcs & the walls I used for Tuileries' garden ) has been a precious help and I want to thank creators like you  for always adding new props ( so details you're speaking about ) to the game . I'm always lying in wait for them on the LEX , and I think they would deserve a better place in their creators BATing thread ...  ::)

...  I also hope that in some of those building patios you might be able to add some life.

Don't worry Robin , it will be done . ;D  About multiple cars hitting each other , that's the problem with traffic generators ... I'm afraid I can't do anything to avoid this to happen , my priority being to have as much of  traffic than possible , even on the closer views which is rather complicated . :-[

So many things to do ;

November should be a great month ! $%#Ninj2

Time to end October with a teaser . I'm working to finish Rue Royal ( that's almost done ...  :P ) where stands « Chez Maxim's » , I  think I don't need to present that place to the world , isn't it ?   ;D

Hello to All,

I like to try to make SC4D's Birthday special every year by doing a few things that are out of the normal and this I have decided to make Cedric (Badsim) a Special Guest in OSITM to give him and his TWT Team the spot light they all deserve.
Cedric is most likely one of the best LOTters I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and view his creations first hand as they emerge on the scene here at SC4D.  I have had several talks with Cedric in the past and he has helped me become a better LOTter and is also a great inspiration to me and I'm sure to many others.

I hope to see everyone in here commenting and enjoying the work Cedric and his team will be showing us this month.

Congrats to my friend Cedric and the TWT Team!!

Post by: Badsim on November 01, 2010, 08:07:00 AM
Thank you very much . I'm glad for all the team to see this project enlightened for the SC4devotion - that superb place where I learned so much  ::)  - fourth anniversary .  &dance

That very specific work of recreation is actually far from the first purpose of SC4 , I'm totally conscious about that ! That's just a display gallery of what's possible to do with detailed & coordinated Lots , about realism . After so many years , I'm not using SC4 as a city builder anymore , but as a city modeling tool . I am the city builder ...  $%Grinno$%

I don't think that LotEditing has got any secret anymore for me , as speaking about « classical » methods than ... well , let say « strange » methods using some  acrobatics that the game allows through its « savegame » process ( explained several times since AntigOne ) . In the same time , I'm very proud to have become a kind of stimulation for several talented BATers ( stimulation being there , of course , reciprocal ) For all these reasons , The Triumphal Way isn't a MD from Badsim but a project from a team , The Triumphal Way Team :

Carlos - Debussyman - BATer from BSC
David - Orange_o - BATer from TSC
Antoine - Girafe - BATer from TSC & BSC
Ben - Air6 - BATer from TSC
Maxime - Citymax - BATer & MODer from TSC
Vincent - Vnaoned - BATer from TSC
Paul - Manchou - BATer from TSC
Matthias - N1_2888 - BATer from SFBT
Youssef - Youcef69k - Textures from TSC
Cédric - Badsim - freelancer in LotEditing ...  :P

Emmanuel - Une-ame , honor member .

The Triumphal Way Project  can be found in the « Projects » section of Devotion : http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=370.0 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=370.0) , with a main thread where the project has been presented & delimited , and several other threads where some members of the team present their respective works - not enough assiduously according to my personal wishes , have to say . ::)

To end that strictly informative post ( as I've got the feeling that we're too deeply « hidden » in the Projects subforum ) , keep in mind that this project sprouted by a kind of bet/challenge between Carlos (Debussyman) & me ... he is working to BAT « The monster » (Le Louvre ) for the community :http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=322.1160 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=322.1160)  &apls &apls &apls

Thank you all  for taking the time to visit us . ;)

What a wonderful surprise it is to see you here, Cedric. I didn't realize you were playing the game again. I've changed computers several times this year and lost my bookmarks in doing so. But I've found you at last and I plan to be a regular visitor.

Congratulations on being in OSITM! It couldn't happen to a better or more deserving member... :)

Xannepan's latest creations and VIP Team MMPs applied to urban environment . Purely experimental ... but considering the new realism level reached , I'm going to study seriously the option to come back here . As announced at AntigOne , my SC4 activities will be erratic for the 8 next months , but maybe I could use this lead time to slowly upgrade ( out of sight  $%#Ninj2 ) all that has been already done here ...  :-\ ... who knows !  :P
