Ok Fred, challenge 10 as requested. Let's see what you've got.

#1
Highway Transportation and Regional Access

Here is Your Highway Challenge 10, Threestooges.

This is the most difficult Challenge in the series of Eleven Challenges in all (Plus the final/conclusion in 12). This challenge is to test your mayorly patience and logical sense of planning and construction. Use all your Mayor skills to make it practical, logical and beautiful looking.

The highway itself  is shown in RED and is allowed to change into an Avenue (Boulevard) on 3 different tiles only, so choose your locations well. You may build only 50% or so of an avenue in each tile though, the rest will have to be highway (any form of it). You are not allowed to build any avenue in the country, only within town- or city- limits. Building an Avenue is an option (maybe even a relief in some cases) and is not demanded for.

RED CIRCLES indicate where the 2 Highway Intersections demanded should be, it may differ from one Player to another whether it is three, four or more directions.

YELLOW CIRCLES indicate where we would like to see the access ramps to the highway. You may build as many access ramps as you wish, as long we see these 3 indicated ones in their locations.

Remember that the *PLAN* can be discussed and negociated and may be alternated to a certain degree. Up to you to give us your suggestions. First study your situation with the plan given and then offer us the results of capability and/or demands for alternations before starting building. It is the Governor's final decision who should be respected at the end, and of course, be executed as such. Only a certain amount of alternation though can be negciated and/or will be accepted. In general the plan should be executed as drawn as much as possible (shown) on the map above, unless you have valid good reasons to ask for needed changes or alternations.
ONLY after the Governor has given his official confirmation and the *Green* light, you may start the regional construction.

After the Governor's confirmation of construction, you may show us your progress with several posts and pictures while you're constructing through the region. Only once finished the Challenge, we will ask you for the pictures needed for the judgement, again, they will be individually demanded.

In Your case...

...I know that your highway will be in a unregular and probably unlogical position, but to get you to do what we want, I had no other choice than to offer you this. The highway should start in tile A and end in tile G, going through tiles D, E, B,C, where they will be an intersection southward into tile F and connect with the airport parking. Then K,L, where it will cross the river and into tile M where the other intersection will be which will lead southward and connect to the tile limits of  M. Then your highway will go back westward in the southern half of your region  and where it will connect anywhere in tile G to the southern neighbor. On/off ramps demanded should be close to the bridge in tile E, connecting to the airport and right near downtown of tile H (upper limit). Good luck.

..........(coming up after confirmation of Construction from the Governor and after the end of the regional construction).........

We wish you good luck with this last enormous Project of GRV II and hopefully enjoy while executing it. No rush, take your time. ;)
We also will be anxious to see your project advancing as you hopefully will show us with pictures as you slowly wind through the region.

Fred (Lynn will be present for the judgements later)

Interesting proposal. While it seems to be a highly functional system designed to be an aid to increased growth, and positioned to grow with the region, there are a few areas which merit discussion in order to best preserve the neighborhoods that have developed so far. Site photographs and explanations to follow:

the first area can be found in tile A, where the current proposed alignment would bisect a tree farm and interfere with the spur line of the regional lumber and paper mill. Though it may be a less direct route, it would fit more with less-griddy style of the north to have the highway hug the hill just east of the farm. This would maintain the uniformity of the area, reduce costs required for exercising eminent domain, and allow for the highway to pass south of the spur switch instead of forcing relocation of it.

The other area of concern is in tile E where the current alignment would either require the reconstruction of the two bridges crossing the river, or entail the removal of most of the homes of the neighborhood or the local commercial district. There is an on/off ramp planned for here, presumably to benefit this community. In order to minimize local impact, we plan to tunnel under the homes, using the farms on either side for the entrances, connecting back to the bridge and area via avenue. The on/off ramp will need to be slightly relocated, but overall this will improve the effectiveness of the freeway.

The rest should be able to be built with minimal destruction, or at least there appears to be no feasible way to mitigate the destruction.

Enjoy the trip, hope this meets the plans.

Both proposals have been studied intensively and they seem to be quite logical and practical. Your plans are hereby officially accepted and you can go ahead with their constructions. Good luck Mayor Threestooges.
