Seasonal Snow

Yet another.

I used to have a snow mod where the snow line would descend in the winter almost to sea level; does anyone know what this mod was and who made it?

The only "seasonal" snow I'm aware of is the snow easter egg in the game that is activated at Christmas day (set your computer's system date to December 25th). I can't tell for sure at the moment, but maybe it can be activated with the Extra Cheats Plugin DLL as well.

I've searched; the extra cheats plugin, while it makes snow, is different than the one I lost; the one I had actually made the snow level move up and down in height according to time of the in-game year. I really miss this mod, so if anyone knows anything, I'll be so happy.

I believe you're thinking of the Columbus Terrain Mod, it's on the LEX.

This is a version modified by jeronij to have snow at low/er altitudes than the default Columbus mod.

No, I'm sorry-- that's not it either. I guess I'll just hafta give up; the snowline actually moved up and down in elevation across the terrain (lower snowline in winter, etc.) ; kinda a weird effect at times, but it was something I loved. Sorry to be sending on a wild goose chase.

I'm sorry I can't help you now, but at least I can confirm there was such mod

. Long time ago (in 2005 or 2006) when I played with my first serious SC4 region, my Plugins folder became a great mess

. I experimented with terrain mods and other similar mods available at that time. And one time I saw this effect you described. I was going to remove it (I didn't need it at that time), but on the other side I found it useful and wanted to keep it somewhere for every case. But I wasn't able to find it

. Of course Cloumbus terrain mod didn't contain it, I supposed it was one of old PEG's mods, but I wasn't able to identify it. At last I removed everything what could be related with the terrain and the sesaonal snow mod disappeared. But I didn't find it.

I know I didn't help you, but at least both of us know it wasn't a mirage

Adam, you are right, there was an old PEG Mod it's still on ST here http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=20937

There are also other related mods that add snow cover to various trees etc.

Tooheys I'm sorry, but the mod pegasus is a classic snow mod, it does not change the appearance of the year

No, sorry, wasn't that. This one was timed to "grow" snow according to the in-game calendar, so that's a pretty unique feature...

I found this post by Swamper77 on google of all places. Not sure it's still an active thread, but this seems to give you the varying snow effect you are after. Perhaps send Swamper77 a PM to check it out

It seems that the snow appearing on Christmas Day is a hard-coded function so making a mod for it to constantly appear is not possible. You need the ExtraCheats DLL that has been mentioned in order to make it appear at any other time.

It is a bit resource intensive because it gradually comes down the mountains during October and slowly retreats during January. Also, this snow is not visible in the Region View after saving your cities that are displaying it. The snow that is part of certain terrain mods will be shown in the region when you save your cities.

No need to PM; it -is- the "snow" cheat in the extra cheats DLL. I feel like such an idiot for not realizing it was in that mod; thanks so much for searching for me. I'm pretty derp, so... But yeah. It's been found, works just like I remember.
