Title: Watersford
Post by: Diggis on April 08, 2008, 10:36:12 AM
OK, I am going to copy my CJ over here.  Much of this has already been posted at Peg's but I thought I'd try a wider audience.  I'll be bringing across the updates one at a time over the next wee while so keep checking in. (Mods, I think this is the right place.  Please move it if not.)

I forgot the very first post:

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/Watersford%20region.swf

Watersford Forks

Nestled between the left and right legs of the Watersford River, the arrivals decided this was the place to start their civilisation.  Being at the fork of the river the unimaginative locals called it Watersford Forks.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg214.imageshack.us%2Fimg214%2F3300%2Fwatersfordforksoveralltj0.jpg&hash=1608b51ac2167dcac0799a27c09e312c7d69984f)

The first building erected it naturally the Cathedral to the Great God Diggis.  This impressive building was built to host the daily ceremonies worshiping the benevolent God.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg204.imageshack.us%2Fimg204%2F5480%2Fwatersfordforkscathedraen0.jpg&hash=1f3cdbb376c5950896b024c0cc8520dc56d0fc65)

These keen workers are ready to move into their new Farms, complete with irrigation courtesy of SG contracting.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg206.imageshack.us%2Fimg206%2F6194%2Fwatersfordforksfarmingzvw0.jpg&hash=04378b977bef5481952459f86f4b89c8dd080678)

As you can see they were so keen SG contracting had to undertake extra work to keep up with the demand.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg204.imageshack.us%2Fimg204%2F9797%2Fwatersfordfarmingdevelowq3.jpg&hash=49aca5490f37604fe4173567d4e79232255450b5)

But whats this.  It seems the False Idol Samflash has tried to move into the neighbourhood.  Fortunately we have ways of dealing with him.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg206.imageshack.us%2Fimg206%2F6686%2Fwatersfordfalseidolib2.gif&hash=52b2c7d7e5b03dab246f0b9de5780d9ca4c3f024)

The people of Watersford are safe from temptation... For now...

Thanks guys.  I have a few updates all liked up so should be able to keep this active.  Barby, I know you feature in here at some point.  :P

I'll tie others in more when I have caught up.  At the moment the main characters are from SimPeg, or major players like SG and Andreas.

Title: South Lester
Post by: Diggis on April 15, 2008, 12:56:48 AM
The Lester family, one of the first families of  Watersford Forks decided to move south and establish
a town where they could build up some industry to service the region.  Being rich, and slightly
conceited, they naturally named this new town after themselves.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg235.imageshack.us%2Fimg235%2F8448%2Fsouthlesteroveralldv2.jpg&hash=7bd30dbb2062d5494def9fc85ee957b447fc1f0b)

Being slightly less pious than their northern neighbours they decided against building a church to the
Great God Diggis straight off.  They'd better get one up soon, before Diggis gets vengeful.  They
should learn from the punishment of the Pretender Samflash.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F3180%2Fsouthlestertownxe4.jpg&hash=3cd8b867ca078303b0adcd050a00fceb58404b38)

Lester Industrial Park was laid out to encourage industry in the town.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F6383%2Fslindustrialpark1kc8.jpg&hash=f320774e2d75e5a5ff42d8a755698adede5e5250)

As you see it worked, and developers were quick to expand the park and cash in.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F6050%2Fslindustrialpark2vb5.jpg&hash=e219262b08d3ebea0dee22cd341b53e449e3c122)

As you can see some of the farmers from Watersford Forks were quick to expand some of their
operations south.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F4279%2Fslfarminggr7.jpg&hash=bc90976e4d4cdf25e2a7feb313fdac2b68e48b6f)

Looks like life is booming in South Lester .

Squidi: Thanks, I enjoy making them mostly.  Sorry none this time, but there will be more

Pat: Thanks for the welcome.

Bat: Here's more for you now.

Nice work Diggis, I haven't read the PEG MD so this is all new to me.

I must say, I've seen plenty of things blown up around here, but that's the first time I've seen a maxis church meet a fate like that  :D

QuoteThough we are being a bit self-centered, eh, Great God Diggis?
Not dreaming of being Jonah Lomu again are you  $%Grinno$%

Seriously, like the start and will be looking out for the next instalment. I'll leave the sheep jokes 'til later  ;)

In the few short years since the Lester family founded the town South Lester has grown.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F6171%2Fsltownoverviewlu7.jpg&hash=4b8c1381dd364798a131fb1bd7334fd39f0a4a7a)

The farming is really taking off.  You can see the members of the Dutch community trying
to retain some of their heritage.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F6034%2Fslfarmingyo5.jpg&hash=2bf186f4bd460e973a4153095eb1deb4a438dc7e)

The Lester family's visions of an industrial centre sure are coming to fruition.  Cal Fame
have moved in, as have the brickworks over the road.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F7141%2Fslindustrialpark3pt5.jpg&hash=ed50464e479cb018ad0293582bf76496a3ffbf5c)

Looks like they'll be raking in the dosh for all rent they charge.

And here we have Pratt's Bottom nestled in amongst the trees of Pegasus Park. This small
Park was deeded to the town by the Pegasus family, South Lester's second oldest family.
This park is where the locals like to meet and tell lies.  You can usually find Sam, Naroc
and the Vicki's hiding behind one of the trees. Most of the locals visit occasionally, usually
when some of the local wildlife wanders by.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/Hagley%20Park.swf

Looks like there might be a game going on at Pratt's Bottom, Let's take a look  Looks like a
match between South Lester and Waterford Forks. This is a very old rivalry going back to
the dawn of time (a whole 9 years).

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg257.imageshack.us%2Fimg257%2F2338%2Fslprattsbottomca5.jpg&hash=9adf0336236ddd23b89d527ee62dc111ec67c4bc)

On the sporting note, we also have the rugby ground in the new eastern suburb.  Here is
where the locals teams practice for the weekends games.  In summer the teams are hoping
to start a sevens tournament here.  Best of luck to them, but they may need to start a
couple more cities to stop if from being a two horse race.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F7296%2Fslrugbygroundci1.jpg&hash=ca5b3c03004c24a36f605ac91e1ef11cbd975d0e)

Well, time to move on, looks like there may be plans of some expansion to the east so
maybe we'll keep an eye on that next time.

Forgot the replies:  &mmm

Bat: Glad you like it, it was my first attempt at Flash.

GMT: Thank, I had fun doing that one.  Here is another for you.

Pat: I could never smite you... Unless you angered me of course.  :o

Nice overview, Diggis, good looking farms and very workable layout. You have a lot of green space and I like that. As for Pratt's Bottom, rumor has it there might be a Nutty new cricket ground released soon, so maybe it will find a niche in Watersford, too! ;D

Pytkowski: Thanks, I think.  :P  I'm definetly still an amature, and I did this to try and force myself to continue a region, rather than restart it.  It's worked so far.

Pat: Glad you enjoyed it.  And I'll be watching. :D

Joan: Welcome to page 2!  I'm a Landscape Architect by trade, so green space is important.  I'm trying to include it everywhere I can.  $%Grinno$%

With the major increase in industry in South Lester something needed to be done to avoid piling
up all the products.  Lord Pegasus suggest that the denizens of the abyss may be willing to trade,
but as they had been receiving his garbage that idea was scrapped.  Port Terrington was mooted
as a way to move the goods.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg214.imageshack.us%2Fimg214%2F9089%2Fportterringtonfillcitycs2.jpg&hash=551096caeb2fb23b21c7523d70c01ce9f73e725d)

The residents of South Lester were quick to move across to provide workers for
the construction of the port.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg469.imageshack.us%2Fimg469%2F92%2Fptresidentialtr0.jpg&hash=07b426b47f1d50c473dcf6fceb1af6fe8b5ffecd)

As you can see the construction of the port is well under way.  Major
earthworks are required before the port will be ready.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg469.imageshack.us%2Fimg469%2F6280%2Fptportconstructionya1.jpg&hash=f35bca1962546236d4889608e6d034efd19a7cc5)

Lets take a closer look.  If you look close you can see the areas where they have
dug a little deep and reached the water table.  Construction on some of the port
facilities have begun.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/PT%20Port%20Construction%20Close.swf

Wynney's crew are exceeding expectations on this project, which is lucky because
Vandy's shipping company are snapping at his heels to get the port functional.  The
industry barons of South Lester will be watching with interest.

Sebes:  It's not that bad really, as long as we keep the numbers down.

Hey Shaun,

I didn't realise you had an MD.  Just discovered it.  Great pics, great story line and even greater humour.  How can you not want to see more of this MD?

And I echo Joan - I want to create those animations.  Have an idea or two up my sleeve - will have to discuss.

Looking forward to the next update.

Watersford Forks 2

Life has been booming in Watersford Forks since our last visit.  Worshiping the Great God Diggis (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsimpeg.com%2Fforum%2FSmileys%2Fcustom1%2Fbowdown.gif&hash=012cf6ab86f7aef563bc0704edad24490c951738)has
paid dividends. Being the benevolent god he is (except when it comes to sam) he has ensured
bountiful harvest.

As you can see the population is growing fast.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg186.imageshack.us%2Fimg186%2F9730%2Fwatersfordresidentialwirr4.jpg&hash=5c02ef2a2bac32f3be7b851af26ce552797e2165)

After their large defeat at the hands of Kim Car and the South Lester Cricket team they built their
own ground to practice.  Maybe Meastro and his Forkers will have better luck at the next match.   &apls

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg89.imageshack.us%2Fimg89%2F1685%2Fwaterfordcricketma9.jpg&hash=2f131ded771eb81f31f2119a663622f6367a9978)

Kingston market has become the meeting place for Watersford Forks youths.  The weekly market
hosts all manner of stalls, from henna tattoos and handmade jewellery to fresh veges and baking.
Naroc's stall of fresh baked goods is especially popular with the farmers wives as is Matt B's stall
of products of a more.... ahh... personal nature.   &ops

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg89.imageshack.us%2Fimg89%2F5623%2Fwatersfordkingstonmarkeyc6.jpg&hash=a35dadfda1e5bf3f3092369fbc3ef33cb1be9dbd)

Speaking of farming and their wives, it's not only their oats that are getting sown.  Growth to the
east has been large, due to the expansion of Port Terrington.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg184.imageshack.us%2Fimg184%2F3236%2Fwatersfordfarmingwidebh0.jpg&hash=df184a6a579b495cb7cb8ba215e3309f68c99e7c)

Nexis transport saw an opportunity to move all those crops.  Their station is moving a lot of stock
and are hoping that the port opens soon as they are only dealing in futures.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg184.imageshack.us%2Fimg184%2F5797%2Fwatersfordgrainsiloqb6.jpg&hash=33017b6890481ede0f7c479577e147c43ba1a22c)

Lets take a look around some of the other farms in the area.  Here we have Nyara's Berrys.  She
sells a lot of these to Naroc for some of his more exotic recipies.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg184.imageshack.us%2Fimg184%2F743%2Fwatersfordstrawberriedeq9.jpg&hash=f20117eb1c7f0181cc6a6061e0755993ed79ec2a)

Paradise Mushrooms is one of the many interests of The Paradise Farmer.  Not exactly sure what he
spreads on them, but eating them sure transports you somewhere.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg184.imageshack.us%2Fimg184%2F1518%2Fwatersfordmushroomsbx8.jpg&hash=59de069e26719c0434ffd9281d66c8cdeea22d2d)

One of his other farms is Simply Tomatoes, which is a marketing ploy to sell his GM tomatoes.
Rumor has it he has crossed them with turtles to stop them from getting squashed in transport.
Unfortunately customers are having trouble cutting them and there has been the odd report of
them running away very slowly.   $%Grinno$%

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg184.imageshack.us%2Fimg184%2F3946%2Fwatersfordgmtomatoesit0.jpg&hash=7f2adc5e93c4cf532352c024696dcb67b909af4c)

Looks like things are going well in the capital of Watersford. We'll have to keep an eye on that farmer
though.  Could be some issues from his GM crops.  &Thk/(

Pat/Joan: I'll try and get a tutorial done up at some point.  No promises at the moment, RL is kicking hard.

Paul: Thanks for dropping in.  I liked your Animation, but can teach you this I think

Bat: Thanks for dropping in.  I've got a few more animations up my sleeve.

Meastro:   Always nice to see a friendly face.  Enjoy the cricket.

On one of his jaunts upon his boat The Unmentionables, Matt B came across the a small forested island.  Being the literate type, he named it Avalon.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg246.imageshack.us%2Fimg246%2F9823%2Favalonfullshotlq0.jpg&hash=69a9e335f9ff45f6d24820c5464f4c4618dfd56c)

Pulling his boat up on the shore he went for a bit of an explore and decided this would be an ideal place to base his empire to avoid the taxes charged in Watersford Forks.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg228.imageshack.us%2Fimg228%2F2292%2Fmattsboatoi8.jpg&hash=dbb0cf3e42d7f2bc6421dab4db6c3d059a233ae5)

Not long after, he had Pegasus Construction building the new seaport village complete with ferry to get his staff and tenants to the island.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg340.imageshack.us%2Fimg340%2F4538%2Fpegscrewxl8.jpg&hash=108071ae2f7984acc3d7f0c622b7985d671f9bec)

As you can see there is an active night life.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg340.imageshack.us%2Fimg340%2F3916%2Ftownnightqs0.jpg&hash=a67218d3070f9a802d9aa8d537c9314d7a9773f6)

Up the hill a residential development is taking shape....

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg228.imageshack.us%2Fimg228%2F5813%2Fressn3.jpg&hash=09ff7c9ca694d4313968511b993cf453189cb75a)

and across the lake Matt's farmers are beginning production.  Many of Matt's products require wine to work (that's what he tells the customers anyway...) so one of the first to get built is the Winery.  Matt's such a hard task master he has them working all through the night.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg228.imageshack.us%2Fimg228%2F4655%2Fmattsgrapesyf2.jpg&hash=04d05feb793777c6baff596fb7bdbcd0b02e3e9d)

Matt however is sound asleep in his new house at the south of the island.  He discovered a small stream up there and decided to build his house on its banks.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg246.imageshack.us%2Fimg246%2F6754%2Fmattshousewideqr8.jpg&hash=8feeaad7b1327168a6ff118ba1ce673dcdd34379)

Let's take a closer look.  As you can see Matt spared no expense on the building of his house.  Watch for the parties here, his friend Vester has a funny idea of a practical joke.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg228.imageshack.us%2Fimg228%2F3039%2Fmattshousemidtb8.jpg&hash=f9abde2dc30988c59a6191385f6534c63e105873)

Pity this beautiful island went to Matt, The Great God Diggis must have some plans for him.

Joan: Glad you liked it.  Although I wouldn't ask about the berrys, you really don't want to know.

Dustin:
Cheers, more farms to come.

Paul: Here's what I came up with next...  ;)

Kim:
Welcome back old friend.  Good to see you around.  That reminds me, must drop in to your theme park again.  It's been a stressfull week and I could do with a ride on a rollercoaster.

Great pictures and animation.
I love your farms, and i like the way you build them. It helped me with some ideas for my self. Your beach are is also great. The only thing i never been a fan of is building up around hilly area. But it wouldnt be much realistic if it wasnt building along hills.

Nice scenery you have there in Avalon, Shaun, and I really like the seaport, especially at night. I've always wanted to use those lots but never managed to get around to it. The winery and Mayor's house look great, too. Looking forward to finding out what the Great God Diggis has in store for Mayor Matt and his lovely island!

Nice update, Shaun!  The master's home sits beautifully at the tip of the island... I really like the setting a lot.   It's also nice to hear that his tastes have evolved from beer to the finer things in life.  I hope the Great God won't be too hard on him. ;)

Shaun, I love it.

I like the little logos for each town (nice touch)

I love the little story lines (MattB has earned that mansion in my opinion)

And your pictures are darned good as well.

I just hope that the Mighty God Diggis doesn't get toooooo angry with Master Matt!

Looking forward to more of Watersford.

Q-tips: I'm also not a big fan of building on the slopes in this game.  I do it sparingly and think it works ok here.

Sebes: I had to go back and read this again.  It's such a long time since I wrote it I forget what I wrote.  But yeah, I hear Matt's a real slave driver.  Can't trust those Aussies.

Pat: I'll forgive you... this time...  >:(

Joan: Glad you like it.  I use Pegs CDK's a fair bit, especially the Old Wooden Waterfront.  I don't use night shots nearly enough.

JB: I didn't say he drank the wine now did I? ;)  He just hocks it off to the locals cheap.  I doubt he'll ever be parted from his VB.

Simpson: Thank you.  I'll post another update at the weekend.

Bat: I enjoy the night part of the game, but never spend enough time there.  I think I'll have to work on that.

Paul: I agree, Matt certainly does deserve that mansion.  It's one of my favourite BATs and I have to try not to over use it.

Kim: I'll be sure and add you to the next invite list to the party.

Shaun,
I don't know how I haven't stumbled across this MD before, but great work (though should anything less be expected from the local deity?). Good story, and good pics, a fine combination. I love what you did with the Frank Lloyd Wright. One of my favorites, but I don't see it used too often (but then you wouldn't expect to I guess...). I'll keep an eye out for the next part. Good work.

Title: Avalon 2
Post by: Diggis on May 24, 2008, 09:04:47 AM
Just dropping by Avalon to see how Matt's community is growing under his watchful eye.

As you can see he has had to resort to herbal remedies to keep the residents happy.  He has
employed the services of Mr SG of GobberGen Labs to provide daily "supplements" for the locals.
So far rioting has been kept to a minimum so it must be working.  Or Matt's actually a good Mayor.
&Thk/(

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FAvalon%2FFukitol.jpg&hash=6443e45d6483f911471df6b67ba07c3cc8047601)

At least the port on the island is finished finally.  Pegasus Construction were supposed to be fined
for going over time and budget, until they reminded Matt they weren't being paid anyway, at which
point he upped the daily supply of Fukitol™ and the job got finished.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FAvalon%2FAvalonwaterfront.jpg&hash=59d3fde18ad5f0801a1db167123e103f23495d74)

Finally work had been completed on the new resort of Sam's Bush.  There was some hushed debate
over the name, with the word crabs over heard a few times,  ()what()   but when they realised it
was named after the great Sam Flash Jr, properties were quickly taken.  Unfortunately the Real
Estate Agent was Sam himself so people paid well above market rate.   :angrymore:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FAvalon%2FSamsBush.jpg&hash=252fc651c117b817156ca3e543ccc3137b7f724f)

Well, looks like everything is moving along well in Avalon.  The farming is taking off, and there are now
3 small settlements, which we'll take a look at later, so Matt must be doing something right.  Even if it
is just employing Mr SG.  :D

Warszawa:  Thanks for dropping by.  I've got most of Peg's stuff in my plugins, especially his OWW2.

Matt:  I don't know either.  ;)  But good to see you here.  I think the Great God Diggis may have had
Falling Water in mind when he created this island.  ()stsfd()

Casper:  Glad you like it. Drop in any time.

I really like the slope down to the harbor (is that where the crabs were? kidding of course) and the area looks to be developing nicely. Despite the questionably high rate for the lots, it looks like a pleasant place to live, if not, there's a farm around there somewhere. At any rate, it's looking pretty good so far. See you around the next update.

Title: South Lester 3
Post by: Diggis on May 29, 2008, 06:24:40 AM
With the new development in Avalon a new suburb has sprung up on the border of South Lester.
Names for the suburb were bandied about, with Naroc suggesting South South Lester, but the
Vicki's laughter put paid to that.   $%Grinno$%  Shinkansen suggested Little Pegton and the
name stuck.  This development began as a small residential and rural area on the border.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg402.imageshack.us%2Fimg402%2F7017%2Fsllittlepegtonrs0.jpg&hash=7bf406d6ad0dff0354beb2520c08c3518d536314)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg404.imageshack.us%2Fimg404%2F7679%2Fslavalonoverflowtr9.jpg&hash=72b06c0abdb141605419ce752232e891f6d6df93)

However, in true Lester style, the family expanded into more industrial development, which
seemed to be taking off well.  A couple of powerplants were required to keep up with the new
development.  The South Lester rail system also extended through the area, taking goods all
across the region.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg404.imageshack.us%2Fimg404%2F5666%2Fslindustrialnew1js7.jpg&hash=b32b513ca468712a14eadbd7e0137830d221b71d)

Back in the main part of South Lester development is booming, although not exactly in the way
Sam Flash Jr was hoping. He left the contract for the new affordable housing in the hands of
Hydra's contracting while on holiday at his new mansion in Sam's Bush.  Unfortunatly Meastro's
architectural firm only delivered the first 2 sets of plans through clerical error (They told you
not to employ Tungston, but you insisted. He is prone to taking long holidays with no explanation
) So Hydra built the whole area from those two plans.  Looks like The Great God Diggis
got a little revenge.  %bur2$

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg82.imageshack.us%2Fimg82%2F944%2Fslhydraconstructioner6.jpg&hash=97f42114e1a2967190d0d2ba6be0a16cc018cce3)

Finally we have a chance to look in on the new commercial development.  This isn't taking off
as well as hoped, but with time it is hoped this will become the jewel in the commercial district
of South Lester.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg82.imageshack.us%2Fimg82%2F7268%2Fslcommercialdistrictcb1.jpg&hash=b554166a467ba33ce2cafd99eae37f3cab40ade5)

Well, that's whats new in South Lester.  Hopefully Sam Flash will get his developments sorted,
and Shinkansen will enjoy her new residence in Little Pegton.  Measto, keep those employees
of yours under control.

Paul: I have a bad habit of leaving the gris (sic) on.  As these are old photos the surveyors were still out with their string lines.  ;)

Joan: Never trust an architect to do your drainage!  And always listen to the Landscape Architect.  :D

Matt: I'm not sure thats where the crabs came from, but I'm trying not to think about it.  And given the amenities it's not that overpriced.

Bat: Only three!  Not enough... have some more!  "$Deal"$

Looks like South Lester is developing all the necessities of life - population and pollution! :P Actually I'm just being mean because I envy the lack of sulfurous clouds over your industrial area, and you've created some pretty nifty neighborhoods, too. IMO, one of the hardest things to do is mix C and R effectively, and it's an art I've lost all hope of mastering.

The farms add a colorful touch, but I'll admit I'm curious about what The Great God has in store for us next. Meanwhile, however, I'll certainly take your advice - fire the architect and give the landscaper a raise!

Title: Port Terrington 2
Post by: Diggis on May 31, 2008, 09:03:53 AM
Work has continued on the harbour.  SFBT Construction has been busy excavating and laying the foundations for the new harbour.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg187.imageshack.us%2Fimg187%2F5263%2Fpt2portconst1ph6.jpg&hash=0733a6d70c309d2803c3060a694f58cfffc018ed)

Work has begun on the docks themselves.  This is to be the location of the initial main dock. Foundations have been laid in the bed for future expansion docks to be put in as necessary.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg187.imageshack.us%2Fimg187%2F8607%2Fpt2portconst2qm4.jpg&hash=b9eef49f1e53a28b627a5e45523169389e3d5bb3)

Excavation has continued towards the river.  One of the islands was discovered to be the habitat of the rare danoby bird so called for its habit of telling poor jokes.  :D  His name is popular among conservationists, however harbour authority are not quite so pleased as they are worried the retention of the island will cause accidents. Not to mention the sound of raucus laughter coming from the island.   $%Grinno$%

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg187.imageshack.us%2Fimg187%2F1922%2Fpt2portconst3zn1.jpg&hash=69053b8b9c5a0a864d98849d1a9d2fba2a0c7e74)

The construction of ancillary docks is continuing at a steady pace.  Already docklands are springing up, with warehouses and oil storage sites being constructed.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F2369%2Fpt2portconst4ep1.jpg&hash=15bf7b1dc8b3fb78d3b8f7c15a81d443d73e450a)

Finally the work is complete on the harbour.  SFBT are moving the last of their equipment out ready for the flooding of the harbour.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg410.imageshack.us%2Fimg410%2F5828%2Fpt2portconst5gc8.jpg&hash=afec29f7519af1c6077974cab76f731e1efadca1)

The final stage!  This series of photos taken from the SimWings chopper by SFBT chief Andreas show the flooding of the port.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/PT2%20Flooding.swf

Looks like Watersford will be exporting sooner than expected.  The port came in under budget and ahead of schedule which has left the local politicians wondering where they can hide the excess money.  >:D

(For those not so familiar with the crew at Pegs, Danob was a regular member around a year ago who has since dissapeared.  He frequented the jokes section a lot and his bad jokes are still on display.  He hasn't been seen in a while and I fear that the Port Authorities may have got him  :'()

Bat:
Lucky you.  More you get.  Double update this week as I'm sick of working on a Saturday.

Kim: I do my best to avoid the grid.  I'm planning on keeping the road ways as I upgrade the zones higher density.

Joan: There is plenty of pollution, trust me.  I'm just taking the pics when there is a good wind up.  ;)  I try to include small patches of Low Density Comm throughout my Residential areas as that is normal for me.

Hey Shaun,

I didn't realise I'd missed an update - darn!

South Lester is good, particularly the apartment development......BUT......

Port Terrington is even BETTER!

I like the way you created the dock by terraforming and then flooding it.  And how did you do that to get the water coming in like that.  Is it for real or is this some nifty picture effect?  And the way you've shown the pics in that animation is fantastic - I like it LOADS.

Well, I'm certainly enjoying Watersford, I think you have a winner here Shaun.

All the best

OSITM. A well deserved award for this MD. I recall having seen that flooding before (I think at PEG's) but it's great to see it again. The island should also help provide a nice breakwater to keep the harbor calm (and ship captains on edge, but hey, you don't want them getting lazy coming into port, dinging up the wall and all). If the port authority didn't get them that flooding wall of water might have shaken the birds up a bit. Hopefully all will be well though. Congratulations on the award, and I'll look forward to seeing what comes during this month.

Title: Watersford East Bank
Post by: Diggis on June 02, 2008, 01:51:38 AM
With Growth in Watersford Forks forcing the farms to be sub-divided into residential lots many
farmers were looking for an area to go where they could farm in peace.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg248.imageshack.us%2Fimg248%2F6804%2Fwfdevelopmentvp6.jpg&hash=faf4a5c1c885d661e89b1baed789c934f0eafc34)

This lead to the east bank of the Watersford River.  Again Pegasus Construction came to the
rescue quickly setting up a pair of ferry terminals to get supplies and people across.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg105.imageshack.us%2Fimg105%2F351%2Fwfwestbankferryma6.jpg&hash=65fa2a69842ffdc3dcb4942520183fd110147bb2)

Pretty soon a small village was being built and the land divided off.  You can see the grid the
FANG Surveyors set up to do their work still there.    ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F5076%2Fwfwestbankbeginningsbs2.jpg&hash=e80585b27765da87d4c32c8bf513815b8e604f76)

The growth of the village surprised many, with the State Fair setting up pretty quick.  Hogs's
Balloons were doing a roaring trade, until he got grounded by the hurriedly set up Civil Aviation
Authority after complaints about the balloons.  And if you think the Bums look bad, you should
have seen the other ones he had.  :o

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F2567%2Fwfwestbankgrowth2cq5.jpg&hash=c9838287bbef00ede174b878c1de332ada55cce5)

The Farmers were glad to have an area away from the hustle and bustle of Watersford Forks

We'll take a look over at whats happening on the main centre shortly, with the farmers moving
out there is room to expand and it's all go.  Sam is grumpy because he was so busy fixing the
mess in South Lester caused by Hydra's Construction that he missed out on a lot of sales, but
everyone else is stoked at avoiding the commission.  PF's made a mint selling his farms to the
developers, and is enjoying greener pastures, literally, over in East Bank.

Godzillaman: Where there's a will there's a way.  There is room for the ships, they just have to earn their keep.  :D

Joan: I had a lot of fun making the flood and it's lucky the island suvived.

Paul: Glad you like the port.  I'll share the secret with it's flooding one day.  ;)  Andreas took some good photos.

Vester: No worries, although you did feature a page or two back and I think will again in a few weeks.

Dustin: No whose idea was that?!  Rats.  Now I'll have to put some effort in.  ;D

Kim: Yeah, the harbour took a fair amount of work but I had fun doing it.

Pat: Thanks.  And glad you enjoyed them.

Matt: Yup, it was up at Pegs about a year ago.  All of these are there but I'm slowly moving them here.  I'll add a few extra this month and hopefully get to play some.  :o

Nice farms, Shaun, and a good choice of location. Maybe here the farmers can grow their crops in peace. Seems odd that they'd opt for flowers instead of berries, though, unless ... what kind of flowers are those anyway?! ???

Good job...

Hi Shaun,

First up congrats on the OSITM award - well deserved.

Great update there, liking the farms.  Those bum balloons are a bit odd, for sure!  I wouldn't want to be in the basket if they suffered a leak!

Looks great, congrats on the OSITM award! To bad those nice concrete/asphalt streets had to go with the flooding, really nice way to present the creation of the port. A great variety of rural bats and fields too.  :shocked2:

Great to see Waterford Forks developing Diggis. I love the selection of rural BATs. The balloons however look slighty weird, like floating peaches... :D
The animation of the sea water going into the newly built harbour is very effective and eye-catching.

Great to see that you have won OSITM.

Work has begun on the new Ground Light Rail in Watersford Forks.  NAM construction won the contract
and begun construction in the downtown.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg217.imageshack.us%2Fimg217%2F4021%2Fwfglrfp9.jpg&hash=30920c2d83376d7c30a04b88f8f8582c5a0bd8b4)

Unfortunately a few businesses had to be taken out to allow the work to go ahead.  Thank Diggis for
Compulsory Acquisition.  ()stsfd()

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg223.imageshack.us%2Fimg223%2F2642%2Fwfglrcommqx4.jpg&hash=eaa08f6708a51540db85e5623422b3e99fb47a21)

The Pratts Bottom station allowed the Locals to get to the cricket matches.  Maestro and the Forkers
have finally managed to beat Kim Car's Lesterers for the first time this year.  There are rumors of food
poisoning, and a waitress called Susie, but nothing confirmed.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg62.imageshack.us%2Fimg62%2F453%2Fwfglrprattsbpttpey3.jpg&hash=067863ef383697baf3a67cf6f6c26c96f0613369)

With the Farmers moving over the river and the subdividing of the farm land (and the rubbing together
of Sam's hand in a greedy way) the GLR was just in time to allow the new residential property to grow.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg217.imageshack.us%2Fimg217%2F5752%2Fwfglrsubdivisionqm2.jpg&hash=d155f9c7b5055b3c80ed5a0cf1ecd211a7601037)

And here you can see the growth taking place.  Fortunatly the local farmers, (and PF in particular)
charges Sam a fair whack for the property and The Vicki's are winding him down on prices, so he's
not making as much as he would like.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg62.imageshack.us%2Fimg62%2F6748%2Fwfglrsubdivision2xr1.jpg&hash=6a9e858b1f3cdecbd00b8b115fa980904bce8492)

While the GLR line was being built tenders were taken for a company to supply the trams.  VesterDK
put in a bid for the job and won, out bidding SFBT (who were trying to branch out from their
construction work).  VDK promptly built the Swan Mill Depot, so called because the had to knock
down a mill to build it, and in the demolition process found a swan.  :D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg223.imageshack.us%2Fimg223%2F8951%2Fwfglrswanmillaz7.jpg&hash=ee1aed546bc44f03a9af79fc8f696c6d19d61a82)

So, the town is booming, farmers are moving out which means more room for development, and
more money for Sam.

And given the Lester Family's little man syndrome don't be surprised to see some more development
there soon.

Bat: Thanks for the congratulations.  The pressure is on now and I'd better play some to keep up.

Robin: Thanks for dropping by. Hope you enjoy the new update.

Joan: Thanks, and the flowers fall into the same category as the fruit... You don't want to know.  ;)

Paul: :D :D :D  You should have seen what I originally wanted to do with the balloons.  $%Grinno$%

Casper: Thanks and don't worry, Andreas got the crew out before flooding the harbour.

Alex: Thanks for dropping by.  Glad you like my farms.  I enjoy building them up.  I also enjoy a good peachy...  &ops erm, never mind.

Excellent. A new update, and the accompanying humor. I'm a fan of the GLR setup, though in the second pic the setup looks as though it could be made more efficient by adding a street to the other side of the station too, but hey, compulsory acquisition can certainly help along those lines as it has before (and appears that the Forkers compulsively aquired a win too). The development looks very natural, and I particularly like the fourth and fifth pics. They really show the city borders edging onto the farmland. It would be interesting to see one of the more stubborn farmers just have his place built around (as is the case with a few farms down here in Orange County (in CA). Interesting work as always.

Hi Shaun

Good to see an update so soon into the month - boy are you going to eat up OSITM or what?

I like seeing construction shots, so thanks for including them.  And funny how those GLR stations (Ill Tonkso??) seem to almost be the default choice - just so remind me of Kingly ;)  And do you see what I mean about "chunky" rugby posts?  Maybe they've been cut at a funny angle to allow Johnny Wilkinson to hit the post and bounce a penalty in!!

And the "Black fence bug" on Cal's Pratt's Bottom hit me too - had to do a re-lot to get rid.  Let me know if you'd like it.

The GLR through farm fileds looks pretty cool, must be quite a scenic journey.  I would like to see you use an automata mod to change the default GLR and trains though.  Such a great choice out there.

Looking forward to a Watersford filled month.......

Nice work on the AG areas, Shaun. I know nothing about GLR except the four-letter words I've learned from my teammates who use it, so I'll let the more experienced fans address that subject.

You continue to do a good job of introducing the R, C and I/I-Ag elements in a plausible manner - just don't go getting too logical on us! :D We can't have anyone upsetting the team' equilibrium!

Glad to see development moving right along,
but you might want to put some security fences around those flower fields! :D

Title: Camden
Post by: Diggis on June 09, 2008, 12:32:07 PM
To the east of Watersford Forks is the scenic area of Camden.  This is a popular area with the
outdoors types and the area is littered with hunting cabins and campsites.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg20.imageshack.us%2Fimg20%2F6587%2Fcamdenfullwu7.jpg&hash=c27cc00b5755241e502e402412ccbab73d44e20d)

Here you can see one of the many cabins built in the area.  This one is owned by Vandy for
when he needs to get away for the effort of mapping the new territories being discovered.
Here he can walk through the wilderness, partake in a little hunting and fishing (for food only
naturally), or just relax in the hot pools to the left.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F1282%2Fcamdemhuntinglodgeww1.jpg&hash=acdb1350f0795df3ac73a7d892d29be08f7460ed)

And here you can see Tungston and Sam Flash on their annual kayaking trip up the rivers.
They always take a week off to travel, but normally are home by the end of the second day
as they get on each others nerves to much.  Maybe they'll have more luck this year.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg20.imageshack.us%2Fimg20%2F5595%2Fcamdenkayaksix1.jpg&hash=08a66f405f02d3f5f6bbc1a585599b209910bc57)

Camden Town is a small rural community that thrives off the sportsmen (and women) who come
through this area.  It also supports the small farms that have begun to spring up in the area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F6333%2Fcamdentownsp1.jpg&hash=d8ff22eb5a4460da0e62c9c1b0ca37f6a6c9ef87)

Here is one of the first farms in the area.  After the push out of Watersford Forks many farmers
looked further out, and Barby W. decided that she liked the area out here better than the hustle
and bustle of city life and decided to settle.  She has become one of the dominant voices in the
town, and anyone who steps out of line feels her wrath.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg292.imageshack.us%2Fimg292%2F6002%2Fcamdemfarmiz6.jpg&hash=687ec30e6854c8a824d7b6595a344cd2804d6a68)

To the very east of the town is one of the most stunning areas of the area.  Locally known as
Pegs Pool, after the first person (read White Person) to find the area, it is a 3 day trek up the
rivers, including 3 waterfall climbs, to get there.  The area is said to have mystic powers, and
anyone who visits there regularly is said to become fit and healthy and lead a long life.  Cynics
often put this down to the exercise gained from 6 days walking, but those who do it know better.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F5409%2Fcamdemhiddenpoolnz9.jpg&hash=1e048473c98d41184a9f2422ffedbec4187fb99a)

Camden is a sleepy little town about ready to burst.  The farmers of Watersford Forks are
eyeing up the lowlands, and unfortunately Sam managed to get higher up the river and had
that development glint in his eye.  Barby will have a fight on her hands to keep this sleepy
little town the way she wants it.

Matt: Thanks for the comments.  I was trying for a natural progression from Rural to urban and show the growth of the town.  I think there are still a couple of farm houses in South Lester where their land has been developed but their houses have remained standing.

Paul: Looking to get a few updates out this month, but think I might run out of the ones up my sleeve.  Might have to play the game...  :D  I think the fence is supposed to be black, but it's pretty intense.  Might ask Lee about it sometime.

Casper: Welcome, and glad you like it.  Have a free pass on me.

Joan: GLR is sweet now that the NAM boys have made it draggable.  99% of the issues are gone.  And I'll speak to the farmers about fencing. ;)

Bat: Thanks, glad you like them.

Will: Welcome to Watersford. I had fun making the port, but I won't tell you how long it took.  ;)

Pat: Welcome back. The NAM boys did a good job on the construction, but wait till you see what the SFBT built in South Lester.

Hi Shaun,

Nice update here.  Camden seems to be a sleepy little place at the moment - but let's wait and see if that development boom comes, eh?  And as for the kayaks, I'm kinda waiting for the duelling banjos to start!  And in case you're wondering what I mean, check this out.....linkie (http://www.maniacworld.com/squirrel-vs-penguin.htm).  Totally bonkers but seems quite at home in Watersford!  (forgive me for hijacking your MD!!)

Camden Town is my kind of place, Shaun! Full of nosy gossips and lazy old men playing checkers! You really have done a good job of creating a woodsy atmosphere where the cabin and streams look right at home. Of course it's a good hideout for those farmers cultivating mysterious crops, too!

With all the development going on around it Watersford Forks has become the commercial hub of the region.  This was marked with the construction of it's first commercial highrise, belonging to international giant Coca Cola®, Enjoy Coca Cola, built by Goobergen Construction with their patented top down construction method.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/Watersford%20Forks%20Coke%20Building.swf

Elsewhere in Watersford Forks land that was formerly farmland is being claimed for commercial.   The development taking place around Lester Stadium has spilled over into Watersford Forks.  This has taken off since the Watersford Forkers, the local Major League Sim Baseball team, won the inaugural competition.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg210.imageshack.us%2Fimg210%2F8398%2Fwfreclamationbeforeqg2.jpg&hash=1a49f319b59254f2fb5c455985b99c2b90879a5b)

As you can see waterway restoration projects are high on the councils list, with large areas of former irrigation ditches being restored to natural waterways.  Pegadyn Industries are heavily involved in this work, for reasons known only to themselves.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWFReclamation.jpg&hash=b207922da249a111ac97c35be1950645aaf41f39)

Another major landmark occasion was the opening of the first bridge across the Watersford River.  This was met with some resistance from the local elders who are rather set in their ways.  One resident, T. Tungston, was quoted as saying, "If the great god Diggis had meant us to build bridges he wouldn't have given us boats." When it was later pointed out that Tungston ran the local ferry routes he was nowhere to be found for comment.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg210.imageshack.us%2Fimg210%2F5450%2Fwfbridgepx9.jpg&hash=b89ed27bf150219f97b7b5ed8221fa3a0c55418b)

Development was slow to take of on the West Bank.  After P. McPeePants snapped up the first property, eager to be a trend setter, Samflash Jr had all sorts of trouble getting anyone else to move across.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg210.imageshack.us%2Fimg210%2F3518%2Fwfeastbankbeforekb8.jpg&hash=145257dcc341e1a78432ab741d8d19f98ef51361)

Finally after some industrialists moved in the neighbourhood finally grew.  Hopefully more development will follow.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg267.imageshack.us%2Fimg267%2F2105%2Fwfeastbankafterzx5.jpg&hash=23b040f1d933fa495a130d8df09e01a62040cebb)

With Watersford Forks growing like nobody's business the locals are calling for a local airport.  Local resident C. Canuck, whose voice is loudest amongst those supporting a new airport, states his argument simply, "Planes are just cool."

*This update bought to you by Coca Cola Corporation.  Enjoy Coke.

Wow... Feel the tumbleweeds here... :'(

Paul:   At least you and Joan care.  Sorry haven't figured out how to get sound on the flash yet so will have to put up with that one. Thanks for the link.  I needed that on a Friday afternoon.  :D :D :D  Feel free to post any other appropriate links (or innappropriate ones)

You have to admire that top-down construction method. It looks like it takes some work, but it's worth it. Celebrate with a nice Coke... now look, you've got me doing it. It really dominates the landscape there, but something tells me it won't stay that way for long. I like the reversion of waterways idea. It's a little detail, but it makes for good pics and a good story. Can you blame Tungston? Well, I suppose you can, but hey ferries can have other uses, I wouldn't write off his business yet. I will second Canuck's call for an airport, and will also move for the construction of an extra hanger (for personal use). Also, since it seems I forgot... sorry about that... the last update was good too. Camden Town looks like a pleasant spot, or at least a quiet jumping off point for the nature lovers in us. A very well done rural town.

Hi Shaun,

Nice update there.

Replies in MDs are a strange thing.  Your last update generated two replies in dour days, and this update has so far generated four replies in two hours.  Can you explain that?  Can I explain that?  Of course not, and that is just one of the things that makes having an MD here such fun - you never know what'cha gunna git!

And this update is another good un.  Love the animated building.  You'll have to explain how to do that.  Something I'd like to copy use in West End!  And the building is a good one.  Just wonder the size of the bribe commission payment required to get it through planning.  Right next to the city's most stunning building, 'pah, that's sity planning departments for you!

Really like the developments around the waterside - nice idea.

And a typically Diggis story for the ferries and West Bank development - love it.

I was tempted to wait to be the 100th poster - but hey that would just be me being childish!

More please,

Paul

All development has to start somewhere, and the Coke building is as good a place as any! I just saw a RL photo of north Dallas this morning where half a dozen new high-rise buildings are changing the city's skyline.

Steve Brown/Dallas Morning News 6-13-08 Linkie. (http://www.dallasnews.com/)

I suspect Watersford Forks' landscape will be changing pretty soon in much the same way, but that's the way it should be I guess. Far as I'm concerned, progress is good as long as it doesn't get too close to my front door! :D

The waterways look good and give the city a few beauty spots among the buildings. And speaking of, what is that big brown building in the center of the third photo? It reminds me of circa 1950 scenes in downtown Houston.

Anyway, I'm glad to see Watersford Forks moving forward at such a swift pace. And tell old man Tungston he can make a ton of cash by advertising ferry rides as "scenic tours!"

Later...

Title: Re: Watersford
Post by: Diggis on June 15, 2008, 03:21:00 PM
With all the talk of an airport being needed Anne Kerry took the initiative to look for space, knowing full well that the council at Watersford Forks was never going to fit or allow one within the city limits.  Some hurriedly, and possibly questionable, land purchases took place and Kerryville was born.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg366.imageshack.us%2Fimg366%2F9507%2Fkerrysvillecityshotsu2.jpg&hash=6fbcacaddadc0426d73aa21fe8aa9d7194f6d2e2)

To the East of Watersford Forks, Kerrsyville is a wide open plain, perfect for the flat ground needed for a Airport that is sure to grow.  Mayor Kerry laid out a small community for her construction teams.  Work soon began and a few months, and one heck of the large bill, later the crews were all assembled.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/KV%20Developemnt.swf

As you can see everyone is in high spirits, including the local kids who take delight in toilet papering the local trees on any occasion.  Fortunately the Vicki's have moved into the neighbourhood, to keep an eye on this new fangled airplate thingy, and have been mobilised into keeping these youngsters in order.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg366.imageshack.us%2Fimg366%2F731%2Fkvneedforcopsxv8.jpg&hash=6486e924cb06e51a53c60c21a6f615eb8bb1d832)

Work has begun on the new airport, again SFBT construction having finished the first phase at Port Terrington.  Having no idea about sized of airport they screened off as much area as their fencing could take and are working from one end out.

Here you can see the work going on for the infrastructure.  Looks like either some terminals or possibly warehouses.  Who knows?  Well... Hopefully Andreas and Mayor Kerry.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this as many of the local residents have been praying to Diggis about these "new fangled airplates" as the Vicki's called them.

Casper: I think a rail line will be on the way at some point.  Keep an eye out.

Matt: I dropped into downtown Watersford Forks last week and even I was surprised by the development going on.  Goobergen Construction was in full flight.

Rhythmandjays: You're right, it is sad, but thats the top retail area.

Paul: You're right, and I'm humbled by the volume of these replies.  I'll tell you how I did it over a beer (paid for by me, with the commision you have paid me  :D)  You would have been welcome to the 100th, maybe aim for the 200th instead.  ;)

Catty: Always good to see a fellow Kiwi fly walk by.  :D  Glad you liked the flooding.  Please come back soon.

Joan: As I mentined earlier Watersford Forks is changing fast already. And looks like Barby answered your question already. Thanks for the link.  London isn't much better.  And as you know, I'm a fan of green cities.

Barby: 1 and 100.  Nice work and founding member of the 100 club.  I couldn't imagine anyone more appropriate to have the honour.  :D  Without your help I can't imagine how bad my cities would be.
Sebes: Welcome back.  Everyone seems to love that animation.  Wait till you see the next port one.  ()flamdev() Oh, and been enjoying the Football.

Pat: Ahh, so thats where I go.  I was wondering.  I haven't changed any names so far, but I'm not far off being caught up. (only 2 left up my sleeve, better start playing  &mmm)

DTP: Good to see you here mate.  I'm only 2 behind now.  ;)  Watch this space.

It looks like things in Kerrysville are off to a good start. I'm looking forward to seeing the airport developed and any of the eminent domain issues that may arise from the 'questionable' land purchases (yay law school... keeping me thinking about this stuff... I think I might have learned something... cool). At any rate, I'll keep an eye out for the next update. Take it easy.

Nice update, Shaun! I enjoy the little animations that really bring the city to life. I'm looking forward to seeing how the airport turns out - I've never gotten much beyond plopping the Maxis mess! So this is yet another element I need to learn more about, and you seem to be a pretty good teacher!

Title: Devo '08
Post by: Diggis on June 25, 2008, 01:47:01 AM
After a stuttering start, when the fickle residents of Watersford were reluctant to get in
behind their team, Coach Diggis managed to pull a few tricks out of his bag and the regions
have swung in behind the players. There was talk of divine intervention, but Coach Diggis
assures us he is no relation to the Great God himself.

Some quick work by Chapman Entertainment saw Fan Zones go up around Watersford for
resident too cheap to get cable so they can watch.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FCamdenDevo.jpg&hash=28ef3b79f10dac366649322656e93023f4d6ff3e)

Here in Camden they are reliving the last match against Majorca, which was their only loss.
Hopefully the boys have learnt from past mistakes.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FAvalonDevo.jpg&hash=e8e6afcd435564b0f4aae062cf47014a05b1243e)

In Avalon they are still watching the win over the favoured Niewe Nederland team.  It was
bitter sweet for Coach Diggis having strong ties to Niewe Nederland, but if they didn't want
him coaching they can pay the consequences.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FSouthLesterDevo.jpg&hash=fca23c4e6e02cd80ee600ada3a944ac375702dc3)

South Lester are also watching a composite of Goals from the team so far, quite a popular past
time.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersfordDevo.jpg&hash=da4442b54c0b7bccfe78599682dcbe60696da149)

In Watersford Forks it appears that Dave has changed the channel and found a slightly different
tournament, although I don't hear too many complaints.  Wait till Joan catches up with him.

Good luck to the boys for Thursday night.  There could be partying in the streets of Watersford
this week.

Matt: This is my first real attempt at an airport so we'll see how it goes.

Klaasconrelis: Neither can I.  I have no idea what I'm doing.  ()what()

Casper: Cheers. Nothing more to be said. :)

Warconstruct: Here you go, a small, not so interesting one for you.

Joan: No animations this time, just a quick Devo update.  I wouldn't follow my airports though.  ::)

Paul: I'll write a tutorial one day, I promise.  And thanks for the Fan Zones.

Bat: Thanks, and here is another for you.

Alfred: You have no idea how long those construction sites can take, just to be bulldozed :'(

Meastro: Good to see you here.  Just no more L33T Speak!  ???.

Will: Welcome back. Glad you're enjoying yourself.

Kim: I'll try finish the airport soon.  Nice addition to Funtasia too.

Rhythmandjays: Careful what you wish for.  :D I have a habit of doing the unexpected.

Great work on the update Shaun.  You did a great job on the screen images there.  I have to say the fans zones sit very nicely in each of the locations.  I guess plenty of beer is served from those kiosks.

Title: Notvorigud
Post by: Diggis on July 06, 2008, 04:02:44 AM
As the citizens of Watersford move away from the central areas thought is turned to protection.
It is decided to develop a standing army for the region.  Retired Military Commander Riptide
volunteered to take on the task of training the forces.  He quickly chose a remote section of
the region to train up his forces.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg175.imageshack.us%2Fimg175%2F8941%2Fnotvorigudcityshotun7.jpg&hash=717789bb5c8c366c52aff5e6621bc0f90069b125)

Notvorigud is reportedly modelled on the Russian KGB training ground of Novogorad, although
Commander Riptides plans were value engineered somewhat.  While it's exact location is a
closely guarded secret we have heard from Bat, who heard it from Pat, who has a friend
whose brothers girlfriend's sister's boyfriend's uncle's brother's daughter's boyfriend's
brother is a new recruit.

This photo was released by the media officer showing the construction crew, and first
set of equipment rolling out to the site.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg508.imageshack.us%2Fimg508%2F9265%2Fnvgconstructionwv6.jpg&hash=639521fe23172cfddb43f40ecb2e69a9b246891e)

No further images have been forthcoming but we have managed to get some night shots
when the guards weren't looking.  We were able to get into the hills above to get the
photos.  This appears to the entrance a guarded compound.  We are unsure of its
purpose but the rumour is that it's a black ops training.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg515.imageshack.us%2Fimg515%2F5681%2Fnvgentranceyr1.jpg&hash=47954cd09dac7241a67dcb01ca09cf1a5ca9af30)

Further into the compound we found a couple of built up areas.  This appears to be a
village of some sort, although we are unsure if there is anyone living there.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg508.imageshack.us%2Fimg508%2F2470%2Fnvgvillagels4.jpg&hash=0224f1cfb98c2ef8d74bea0cff9f468ecfeb9547)

And finally what appears to be a couple of farms.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg175.imageshack.us%2Fimg175%2F2821%2Fnvgfarmgh2.jpg&hash=94072293c87ec66ac2666d385bacbf9abd54ed82)

It's early days here yet so we will be keeping an eye on proceedings.  Something
tells us that it's for training purposes and we could see some action here soon.

Meastro: Yes, it was a shame, but seeing as the Russians were representing Watersford it was bitter sweet for me.  &mmm

Simpson: Thanks, drop by again some time.

Bat: Paul did all the hard work. I just stuck some photos onto the screens for him.  Look for them soon at a LEX near you. ;)

Joan: I'm sure the residents will find something to watch on there.  Dave seems to already have found a new channel.  Plus there is the Tri Nations Rugby, Premiership League, Rugby League World Cup.  We'll always find sport to watch.

Sebes: Yes, unfortunatly Coach Diggis wore a T-shirt to the Semis.

Paul: Yes, you really missed the boat showing male sport.  Notice Dave's screen drew the biggest crowd. :D
Casper: Sorry, which 4 identical stores do you mean?  There are a few of the more undesierable (depending on your point of view of course ()flamdev() ) elements in Watersford Forks.

Great update there Shaun.

I love the diversity of the MD section and I think in Watersford you deliver up our weekly dose of gags, one liners and irreverant comments to keep us all going.

And of course your skills in putting together good pictures shure helps  :D

The night vision shots are very good and just complete the whole mood of the update.

I just wonder what will happen next!  You'll run out of original ideas sooner or later ;)

I love the night vision thing for the pics. It really does add a realistic and artistic touch to the update. The name for the base is well... (I wouldn't call it 'great' heh heh) but I like it. What appears to be a farm is sending/receiving a rather large quantity of trucks.  The Devo update looked good too. Watersford has a nice selection of channels. Good work as always.

Title: Camden
Post by: Diggis on July 23, 2008, 06:07:28 AM
Time to pop back in on the Goddess up in Camden and see how she is getting on with keeping
out the rabble from Watersford Forks.

As you can see the town has been allowed to grow a little.  The population has nearly doubled
and some of the gravel streets have been upgraded to a nicer asphalt by Plumbley Construction.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenvillage.jpg&hash=b702cae4c88af8111183bc83a64187050c89ca97)

Taking a closer look we can see that a shuttle service has been formed around the northern
half of the town.  The goddess wasn't too impressed, having walked to school everyday in
bare feet, through 2 inches of snow and uphill both ways.  :D However the youngsters
of today have been very impressed with the service which gets them round the block with
half the effort of walking in a quarter of the time.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenBus.jpg&hash=62fc84500402c8dbdc3f3f071ba1ceafbfc1d6e5)

To the south expansion has been a little more chaotic.  A new water tower was required to
supply the growing village.  In the new industrial park a Vet Clinic has been set up to tend to
all the cats being hit by the increased traffic.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenVet.jpg&hash=c6676624e53a10eeec97e8639abf99194c0b1c32)

So it looks like Camden has been weathering the storm and holding off the city slickers.
However to the west it's another story.  :o The farmers from Watersford Forks have
expanded their foot hold and formed a small village to the north for their workers.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenCreeping.jpg&hash=1aa6a84c9611dca916b1e0e7e710b488e7b21d5e)

Being sited on the main route to Camden the petrol giants were quick to move in and secure
prime property with the help of DW developments.   Fortunately a smart-cars dealership has
cropped up over the road to help protect this pristine area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenSouth.jpg&hash=cc0d4f5a6c57a4be989f3201b6ebd95ff2e4898f)

Luckily not all new residents of Camden Cross have little regard for Nature.  The Aussie
entrepreneur Dave Tooheys was responsible for getting an area along side the Camden Stream
protected.  Being an Nutty Australian Dave naturally built a cricket ground in the reserve to
continue his family's proud cricketing history.  He named it the Collins Commemorative Ground
in honour of the Prophet Collins who first spread the word of the Great God Diggis.   "$Deal"$

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCamden%2FCamdenCricket.jpg&hash=084078f7ee7c347ffbf562db831b81a00bd51fc8)

Hopefully the two villages can work together to protect this pristine landscape from the ravages
of civilisation.

Paul: Weekly?  You are setting the bar a little high for me. ()what() I'm hoping I won't run out of ideas this week.

Kim: Glad you like them.  It took me a while to get those shots.  Dodging bullets is no fun I tell you. :'(

DTP: Suspense?  Hmm, guess I'm doing something right.  And yeah, added it last week.

Warrior: Hehe, snuck up on you there?  Guess my marketing is working. :D  Welcome to Watersford, I'll find somewhere for you to stay soon.

Catty: Whispering?  I was swearing my head off.  Stupid jamming camera.  $%Grinno$%

Maestro: Thanks

Matt: Thanks, and if you've read the Bourne Ultimatim you'll see where the name came from.  And I hadn't noticed all the trucks... Very suspicious.  &sly

Joan: You are late!  This is actually my Beta testing region, so lots of crazy stuff could happen.  Keep an eye out for future works appearing here. ;)

Bat: Thanks.  I have only shown the undeveloped tiles so far.  Guess I should show a few wider shots soon.

Sebes: Hehe, welcome back, you have been missed.  ()sad() Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Robin: Glad you like them.  Took some work to get right.  :'(

South Park: Thanks, come back soon.

Sim-Al2: You do, do you?  ??? I would love to hear your theory.  Feel free to PM me and I'll tell you if you are right.  ()stsfd() And glad you like my work.

Shaun, those one-liners of yours are so irreverent, but they're one of Watersford's many - and greatest - charms! ;)

Camden, which shares its name with a town here (http://www.camdenarkansas.com/) in Arkansas, looks good. The overview shows a typical small-town layout which is the ambiance I'll be trying to achieve in my region. I like the way you've laid out the "expanded" farms, too. I hope Camden will stay small and inviting. Big cities are a fact of life, but the little villages are so special!

Well, Sebes says it is Diggistic, whereas I tend to think of it more as Diggtastic!

Nice rural town development you got going on there Shaun.  Now, is there going to be a market in Camden?  Surely there is a storyline there for you somewhere!

And I'm glad to see that twice the amount of money spent on petrol for the cars has been invested in doubling the bus service to triple the satisfaction rating of a third of the passengers - nice work

Post by: Diggis on July 25, 2008, 03:38:23 PM
Matt has been a busy boy in Avalon.  Never one to miss a trick he saw an opportunity for a large
resort on the undeveloped land across the river.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FGolfOverview.jpg&hash=48e1730fca3fcbdef52e27e6a13caf2185506341)

He called it Chokebrook Resort, for the stream that runs through the course and has caught many
members out.  However most residents refer to it as Chequebook resort for the high prices Matt
charges.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FKillerCorner.jpg&hash=a4e8ca18bcf644f02d4b2db7b3eb234c5ddd6fc4)

This is the 13th Green and the 14th Tee, known as Jon’s Corner.  If you look close you can probably
see Jon Simio still there after the last tournament.   He was heard cussing loudly after realising that
the 14th Tee was also across the stream.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FMarina.jpg&hash=210d4ea752a10e94183e137c5d5cbff0ff434849)
A new marina was commissioned along the waterfront to ferry visitors across.  There was some
dispute about who owned the design rights to the work and a few employees were fired over it.
However Matt was happy with the final product and it just provided another generous income in
his ever expanding portfolio.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FClubHouse.jpg&hash=e504fc2fe8603f769493cff21f081abb976e7944)
The heart of the resort consists of the clubhouse, fitness centre, leisure centre and sports fields.
There is continuing discussion over the design of the clubhouse and the club are in talks with NHP
for a replacement after just a week after completion.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FResidential.jpg&hash=a727dace52828859d93004e2a3f9d28e37d56de5)

After initially opening the resort to all comers Matt finally got his wealthier citizens moving in.
John Warrior and Alex Tarkus were amongst the first to snap up larger properties on the back
of the success of their construction company.  Valuable rail and highway contracts around the
world have enabled these two to afford good Architects to design their new houses.
Unfortunately they didn’t spend enough on a good Landscape Architect and in fact hired the
same one, who worked on a paint by numbers system.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FMansion.jpg&hash=e40283e2dee59d21ac071a2b07a46d90cdcf8256)

Also moving into the resort is the head of Watersford Bankers Assosiation, Paul Paroch.  He
has hired SWI Industries to build his mansion. Nick the Greek did a wonderful job on the
building for a good price so Paul was able to hire the renowned Landscape Architecture
partnership of D66 and Barby.  D66 does all the work and Barby supervises from the nearest
pub. He sited it over the 6th green, being a particular favourite.  It was here he won from
Matt the property title on a hole of golf.  He also managed to win 2 other titles.  However
he also managed to lose his wife’s car and his children’s inheritance. Luckily he’s well
versed in removing money from his clients accounts and didn’t really notice.

Looks like Matt is still earning too much, and Jon isn’t playing enough.  After losing his ball in
the water one more time he was heard telling his playing partner Ella ‘You have it.’

Warrior: Welcome to your knew home.  ;)  Enjoy.

DTP: Welcome back, hope you enjoy this one too.

Art128: Welcome to Watersford.  Glad you are enjoying it.

David: Yes Pitch.  And it's similar to the one where I grew up and Dave did a great job with it.

Kimcar: Welcome back.  Now it's cricket season again I hope you're practising.

Bat: Welcome back.  There is work being done on the river.  Keep an eye out for changes.  ;)

Joan: It's those one liners that keep me going.  Camden is also a well known market in London, which was actually my inspiration.  But thanks for the link.

Sebes: Yeah, the goddess isn't too pleased with the nearby development.   Watch this space.

Paul: I'm sure we can slot a market in somewhere, although it might be a little more subdued than it's namesake.  And thanks for the typical WBanker breakdown.

Jon: 5 pages!  Slacker.  Thanks for dropping by again.  Glad you like it, and if you are going to be English you will need to learn cricket and football (of the soccer variety) and Rugby if I can help it!  If you choose Europe you don't need to worry about the cricket.  I'll get the goggles sent right over.

Great update there Shaun.

you realise this is now my second post here today!  I'll soon be a regular!

Great storyline as always and that course looks pretty neat, I have to say.  Nice choice of mansion for the Paroch coutryside spread.  I'll have to plan my quest for sim-world domination from there, so long as I can get out of the maze that is.  As for the clients accounts - that money is being wisely invested.  I only need a full house at the right table and the returns on their investments will be amazing!

That golf course looks pretty realistic!
And the area around it looks like a nice place to live, too.

Excellent update, Shaun. Love the new streams too. I do, however, have a correction to make as Paul Paroch's house was actually designed and built by that well known architect swi21 - known to his friends as Nick the Greek - with landscaping assistance from D66 and advice from the Goddess herself.

Avalon (celtic: apples): Now this is a place where I'd love to be found, together with the other happy few.. But I missed the magic boat, caused brobably because I was bluntly shouting to load (Dutch as I am I cannot help) or drunk or out of money, or all three of them..  ( ??? Is that what the 3x in my avatar stands for maybe  ???) Or is it just because I am converting The Big Apple in the The Big Orange ? Mmmmm

Fantastic new shots there, Diggis! And the overview of that area (first picture) is looking really beautiful!

Looking forward to more of Watersford...

The stream turned out great, Shaun. The layout looks good, especially in the overview - very realistic. And that's quite a resort our friend Matt has created - a championship golf course with all the trimmings.

I especially like the marina, but I'm trying to figure out where it is (still stuck in overview mode!). Nice cribs for the rich and famous, too. I'll bet Mr. Paroch and his family are really living it up! BTW, are there are any two-room bungalows available for the poor and pitiful? :D

Good job...
Joan

Shaun fantastic updates here and its good to see I didnt have to read to much to catch up or is that a bad thing hmmm??? It does seem that Matt is a tad bit greedy and Jon is a bit foolish with his bal golfing *cough*.... anyways I cant wait to see if I talk to anyone again lol.....

Another fine update, Shaun!   &apls  The resort looks great along that nifty looking stream (I wonder where I might be able to get those pieces?) although I still feel that putting the tee across the water was a terrible @#%&!!* idea.  Seriously... what kind of $(#@**#   $@&**$... *disintegrates into a random meaningless stream of profanities*

Sorry about that.  I've learned, and even played soccer (also known as football to some) and I'm willing to learn cricket.  That doesn't mean I'll ever be crazy enough to attempt playing the game though!  ;)  Looking forward to the next update!

Excellent work with the golf course. I'd love the chance to play it (but seeing how it can get some people *cough*Jon*cough* to swear like a sailor... maybe he should just use his 'foot wedge' and aim for the cart path... or maybe I should try that and challenge him to a game). If there's still land available (for the right price of course) that wouldn't be too bad of a place to live. It must be a nice place if they're updating the clubhouse after a week (have to stay on the cutting edge). Again, your storytelling is exceptional and continuously entertaining, and if you don't mind, I'd like to know how you got those nightvision pics so clean (besides a good camera I mean). Take it easy and I'll look forward to the next update.

Some more marketing shots of the base at Notvorigud were released today, along with the statement that work is progressing on getting the base up to speed.  Training is also progressing well, although no official shots of troops in training have been released.  Seems Commander Randy is keeping his regime under tight control

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNVGBase.jpg&hash=21ea69d0de633ea75abae5695a566b8259ccefc7)

Here we have the overall base.  Unfortunately this shot was under some sever censorship from head of marketing for the base, John Hayden.  The best we can guess is that some critical location to the base and they don't want to give any enemies tips.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNVGCompanyOffices.jpg&hash=eb5f0918869c4da42ac11a5c2aefaf2f210ec21b)

Here we have the company offices where the day to day running of the base is carried out.  We were given a brief tour through the building and were very impressed with the efficiency everything seemed to be run at.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNVGAccomodation.jpg&hash=33d52d30f48cf1599207562598d3c9f79dd4334b)

We were shown through the barracks, which were in tip top shape.  When queried on why there were only beds for 200 men, when the figures stated that our army was at 10000 we were told than the other 9800 slept on the training ground and this was from the support staff.  Questions on the training prompted a quick change in topic and we were escorted out of the barracks

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNVGMotorpool.jpg&hash=531a766b9bc8c285c9b62330d7369a34abb5166c)

Final stop on our tour was the motorpool.  Here we met Major J Swamper who is in charge of the fleet of mechanics. A brief rundown of the vehicles prompted more questions on number of vehicles.  Again a change of topic and that was the end of the tour.

However.....

Our photographer managed to sneak off while Captain Hayden spoke about his designs for the base (which we thought were Commander Randy's) and get close to the training ground.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNVGIndustry.jpg&hash=6509789c202b8b3ca22cb78b2c7bd6ac12393ac0)

Using the bushes as cover he managed to snap a couple of shots of what looked like a training exercise being undertaken in an industrial compound.  If you look carefully you might be able to make out the muzzle flash of a couple of the tanks.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/14/774858/NVG%20Invasion.swf

Coming into the industrial area from the other side was a small fast moving force which looked like they meant business.  We managed to catch a small film of them moving through.  Seems like they come in fast and fall into some sort of formation.

We'll try and get more information as soon as we can, but seeing as we aren't supposed to have seen this it may be difficult.

Paul: Glad to see you intend to return you clients money.  I'd hate to think you were stealing it for personal gain.

DTP:
Thanks, I had a bit of fun making it.  It's inspired by Millbrook Resort in NZ, which I worked on when I lived there.

Barby: I've corrected that.  I could have sworn it was one of Colyn's.  In fact, I've added a whole extra paragraph.

Sebes:  I'm sure if you ask nicely a place can be found for you.  I'll get them to hold the next boat specially.

Kim: I'll keep an eye out on the property market for you.  Hope you bring your special cheque book.  And tee off any time you like.

Bat: I like that pic too, although they didn't in the picture comp.  Here's a little more for you.

Joan: Yeah, I think the SGA tour may make a visit, who knows.  The Marina sits just to the left of the overview shot.  And I think I can find you somewhere to stay.  I'm sure Paul will have a room or two free at the very least.

Pat: Yeah, I keep waiting for Matt to get his comuppance, but so far so good.  We'll see. And I think Jon needs to work on his swing a little.

PNF: Thanks.

Warrior: Thanks, I'll release them soon I hope.  And welcome home, although I'd fire your Landscape Architect.

Jon: Stop swearing at me and I might be able to hook you up with some streams.  And every good golf course needs a waster hole. No fun otherwise.  And cricket isn't that hard.  There is talk of putting a ground in at the resort.

Oh... And you have it.

Matt: You're always welcome, just don't play you're namesake, he likes to bet heavily on each hole.  And Jon even tried throwing the ball and still landed in the water. I don't remember how I did the night vision shots, but I think it was just a green filter in Photoshop with a bit of a gradient.

Simpson:
Thanks, I worked hard to get the course and the residential to blend in with the surroundings.

Art128: Thank you, drop by for a game some time.

Rushman: I did that bridge in the LE using the bridge pieces from the stream kit (coming soon, I promise) and an overlay texture.

Great mix as usual.  The "through the bushes" shots are a great idea.  And keep asking those awkward questions and you may get to the bottom of what they're hiding!!

My my, covert operations afoot in this otherwise well-designed and well-kept military base! :D The barracks are especially attractive even though what goes on inside - and what doesn't - is top secret. Love the pix through the bushes, and your animations are always a treat to see.

Of course, all this leaves me wanting to see more, more, more...

Marvelous work, looking forward to the bridge and stream, thx for the reply.  Plus I really love the animation.  It made me think of Battlefield.  Anyways, on the constructive criticism, I suggest placing some concrete or tree fillers on the blank tiles in that industrial park, it would look really complete!

Surprised I haven't posted on this update yet. Another good look at the Notvorigud complex. I have to wonder though, if the blurred images are designed for classic misdirection. I mean, if you're going to publicly release images that show exactly where the "important" buildings are by blurring them... oh well... nothing to worry about. Moving on to the video, they do manage to keep a tight formation. The drivers must be well trained, however many of them there are. Great work as always, and I'll look forward to what's coming next.

Post by: Diggis on August 29, 2008, 11:16:13 AM
Finally after 81 posts the Watersford Councils have prepared Barby's Honour.  We would like to unveil the new online encyclopedia for Watersford:
Barbypedia: More alive than the Original.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FBarbypedia-1.jpg&hash=2f51ef08943a14a798bfdad6547407d9cd62a5df) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn110/Diggis/Watersford%20CJ/Barbypedia.jpg)

Barby was has been elected to the keeper of all knowledge of Watersford, a role she has filled unofficially for many years already.

DTP: Yeah, it did sound suspicious...  Bear in mind most of the force were upfront and it really was only the communications officer changing the story.  ::)

BAT: Thanks, not my best effort, but fun none the less.

Kimcar: Thanks, It gets harder to come up with new tricks, but I've still got a few tricks up my sleeves.  I think I need to put on my long sleeve shirt again soon though.  :P

Paul: Yes, but how do you ask a question about something you weren't supposed to have seen?  ()what()

Joan: I promise I'll put up more soon, time has been short this month.  Working on it though.

Herdervriend: No problem, if I can be of more help, let me know. Welcome to Watersford.

Alex: Don't watch the tanks too close, they travel sideways a wee bit.  &mmm

Meastro: Dag! You need to visit more often my Dutch friend.

Rushman: The streams are on the LEX, look under Diggis.  Those blank lots are actually zoned, but I turned the zones off for the pics.

Matt B: Yeah, thats you, causing bankruptcy trouble.  Please come back soon.  :)

Matt: Good point.  You know the saying, military intelligence is an oxymoron.  :D

Simpson: Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

Brilliant update, Shaun!   &apls  I laughed... I cried... I bought a new laptop (due, of course, to the significant water damage sustained whilst the tears fell on the old one)... and then I decided to post.  I also enjoyed the previous update even though I failed to comment at the time (as usual).  Perhaps... but only perhaps as we all should know better by now... I'll do better with the next update.  I'm looking forward to it regardless of whether or not I remember to type something though! ;)

It's been a while since we visited Watersford Forks.  Last time we were there big business were
poking their noses in. By the looks of things they may have got a foot hold.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FConstruction.jpg&hash=2bc0906f28ef5b7ef44af8ea03cad00d48ba3db2)

Development in Watersford Forks is booming.  Many smaller inner city blocks are being turned into
highrises, both residential and commercial.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2Ftennis.jpg&hash=67ca81269e83a8318970e168ea3e720f89035785)

More residents meant more schools were needed.  Chapman Banking Corp stepped up and helped
out with some top notch sports equipment for the schools.  The tennis facilities are particularly
popular and it's hoped future champions are being born.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FGoobers.jpg&hash=4b54660bd9f5e02bb8c710ba77beaddc763e0a5a)

Goobergen got a little carried away with the concept of a monopoly.  But for some reason all 9
shops are doing a roaring trade.  Seems Watersford Forks residents can't get enough of Goobers
Nuts.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FPonds.jpg&hash=48d3b4a4b4ef86241397605edd7f23675c72527f)

There are still some farmers holding out from the developers.  Tage 'Ripped Jeans' Aland still has
his wee farm on the outskirts despite being the owner of the new Airport in Kerrysville.  He says
he likes the way the stream curves around his farm.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FNightoverview.jpg&hash=68a87fcbd1f65ebc05265d8bf4085d7d14b0f4af)

By night Watersford Forks lights up.  Seems many residents are working very hard at night
making money for their bosses.  Although I have it on good authority (read, I made it up) that
many of them are just surfing the net and creating custom content for games.  Some things
never change.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FCerulian.jpg&hash=93b9a17ca843b881d96c8e67198ad51b916daf8d)

One of the more serious points is water pollution in Watersford.  Local Engineer and renowned
canoeist Arne Vester has investered money into the Shalloya Project to research ways of
minimizing water pollution and reducing the volume of water usage in the region.  They
commissioned local architect Cerulean of CHARCH to design a building for their needs.  Clever
use of lighting inside the 2 reservoirs at the front has given the building its unique blue glow.
It looks great now, but you should see the colours it goes when the scientists contaminate
the water in the reservoirs.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSunkenPlaza.jpg&hash=2c5fbea65fb59a8984c2b1e3adc412aa4d03911e)

Finally a night shot of the sunken plazas.  We've shown a night shot to showcase the new
lighting put in after a local resident tried to sue DeadWoods Corp for injuries sustained after
falling into one of the entrances at night.  Head of DWC Brian D foughtthe case and once it
was discovered the 'resident' was on the property committing burglary Judge Edgren quickly
threw the case out and jailed the thief for both burglary and being an idiot.

Thank Diggis the court system is still using common sense in Watersford, as it's becoming less
common everywhere we look.  Looks like it's in safe hands for now, we'll drop back in soon
too see how the development is going.

Barby: It was a well deserved honour given all the help you have given me, and everyone else over the years.  &apls

Art128: Thanks, I had fun doing it.

Paul: Cheers Mate, I may have set the bar a little high given how close to 200 I am.  But nothing but the best for the Goddess.

Joan: You're right, although I did see her say 'I don't know' once... :shocked2:

Bat:  Thats, and here it is.

Catty: Always good to see a fellow Kiwi about.  You should see those tanks up close, not quite so lovable. :D

Sheep49: Thanks mate. And welcome to Watersford

Pat: Barbypedia is the most informative wiki I have found.  Not as editable as some of the others though.  :D

Sebes: Welcome back.  Good to see you around.  I had a lot of fun writing it, although had a bit of help on the headlines.

Jon: Feel free to send me the bill for that laptop, just don't expect me to pay it.  :D  Welcome back, hope to see a bit more of you you round more. (I saw where that was headed)

The big businesses don't have a foothold so much as... a good foundation at this point.  No doubt big things are on the way. Glad to see the schools and their facilities are well funded. Those courts look very nice. The 3rd pic seems to be a bit off for me (no GooberNuts that I can see, just the night pic of the idiot burglar incident -edit- seem that has been taken care of now). Tage has a nice farm setup there and he's right, that creek does look nice through there. The water building does have an interesting glow and I imagine that contamination might make it look a bit like a lava lamp. At least you'll know when to break out a new filter. I'm not going to even touch the attempted burglary (law school is done for the weekend, why am I thinking about licensees and invitees?) except to say I think he got what he deserved there. Great update here Shaun, and the Barbypedia page was interesting too. Long photoshop session or what? Take it easy and I'll look forward to the next update.

Watersford Forks is looking good there Shaun - it's nice to include a pic of the develpoment in progress, something often overlooked.

And those tennis courts look good there, thanks for the plug - I think it's the first time I've seen them crop up in an MD.  And amongst those late night batters and lotters, I think I can see tow people in a pub learning to bat by candle light!

You're right about Tage's farm, it does look good there - your streams are a nice addition to the game and I really need to start using them.

Starbucks beware... Goober's Nuts has taken over!  :D

Nice update, Shaun.  It looks like Waterford Forks is experiencing quite a construction boom... it should be interesting to see what the results of all that will be.  The tennis courts do look nice, as does Ripped Jeans Acres.  I love the night shots!  Maybe I should finally install that mod and see what it can do...  &Thk/(

Development certainly is booming in Watersford Forks, but glad to see there's still room for some green areas. Excellent use of your ponds and streams - I wouldn't have thought of using them in that way, but it works very well.

Love the night shots - always my faves - and love the story line, too. Now SCRUB has thrown in an interesting twist. Good luck in the tourney!

Later...

South Lester

It's been a while since we stopped off in Industrial South Lester.  Business is booming, with the expansion into areas like
Avalon, Camden and Kerrysville causing a rise in demand for materials.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-LumberProcessing.jpg&hash=2453d431b604bab397475a0c0fcfc86d34a43251)

Here we have the large lumber processing plant.  This used to be in the centre of a large forest but demand for lumber
has meant that it has been rapidly deforested.   And the Lester family have rapidly taken the opportunity to fill this up
with industry.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-ContainerShipping.jpg&hash=e9e5983dc58499faf4eea42eef4b824caec5ed60)

Another area that is doing well is the shipping industry.  With the increase in trade and produce items are being shipped
region wide, although this container store seems to be backing up somewhat.  They usually ship to Port Terrington.
Hopefully nothing untoward has happened there.  News has been scare, but there was a hurricane warning for Hurricane
John earlier.  May have to check in some time soon.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-DirtyindustryOverview.jpg&hash=21724ab3d5b846bcfed4f435b4fd4b76686df4ce)

A quick look at the overview of the city reveals large tracts of dirty industry in the city.  Pressure is on the council to
encourage more high tech industry.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-Dirtyindustry.jpg&hash=2671e8defe69a78a8f7868f331cc0e2cfaed6f2f)

Local clothier Paul Cooker has opened a nylon plant for the ladies of the region.   He hasn't has much luck with the
ladies himself unfortunately, owing to using traditional techniques to produce his colours, which is also the reason for
close proximity to the sewerage plant.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-DirtierCommecial.jpg&hash=e8ef41df67250b37e3e59a301cf235eb252f2636)

Unfortunately, with dirty industry comes dirty commercial.  Paul's products are very popular here, as well as many
other... um... interesting products.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-DirtyCommercial.jpg&hash=969403b0b983bcd2cf9cd8d145594a904e11fc4f)

Another pair of shops that do quite well are Al's Guns and Tim's Tattoos.  Al and Tim, the Goober brothers, are a pair of
bikers who, after one too many run-ins with the Judge Edgren decided to go straight.  They opened their shops up next
to each other and do a roaring trade.  Al specialises in hunting weapons, small bore rifles and even archery equipment,
and Tim's bread and butter is 16 year old girls getting their first tattoo.  They seem to find comfort in the large bear like
Tim and see him as a father figure, little realising quite often he actually is.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-DaeleysLab.jpg&hash=a23f278534c17b3dbe7039ed8f241acb30fb02ca)

The push for High Tech industry appears to be working.  Daeley has set up his Lab in South Lester.  DAMNed if I know
what he's planning next, but I'll be it'll be DAMNed good.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-School2.jpg&hash=dada0ae1f3f469293ea6ea015d691a5154c24b54)

As part of the push for High Tech industry more schools have been built in the city, with better facilities.  Sports
psychologist C Adams was responsible for suggesting more sports equipment at the schools might make happier
students.  Cynics have been heard to suggest it was in aid of more customers for him in later life.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi302.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn110%2FDiggis%2FWatersford%2520CJ%2FSouth%2520Lester%2FSL-School.jpg&hash=daee205196a7d96d867e6db77870527ecb678119)

The running track at Simio School for Boys was the focus of a meet recently.  One of the schools from the OTHER
side of the tracks took out many of the events and they credited  it to the training regime of the students.  Given
the neighbourhood the school was in it is thought this is due to the boys spending most of their afternoons running
from the police.

That's all for South Lester at the moment, we'll be back again soon hopefully.

Simpson:  Thanks, and yeah I like the 4th pic too.

Art: Thanks, good to see you again.

Matt: I had fun doing the Barbypedia page, and am working on getting Joe and Fred to change the colours of the Wiki.  Glad you liked the tour, and I think there is an opening in the judges offices if you are looking for a job.

Barby: Thanks for the heads up.  There really is a plan, although it may not seem that way.

Bat: Thanks.  The 4th pic seems to be popular today.  Glad you all liked it.

Paul: I think De Hems might need to be modeled.  I'm sure I can put a pair of drunks huddled over a laptop, or hitting on American students.  ::)

Jon: Bill still hasn't arrived, sorry.  The 2 min offer has lapsed too.  Bummer.  I'm not sure I have the night Mod still installed... must check.

Simpson: Thanks, thought I'd steal if for myself.

Art: Thank you

Joan: There will always be parks in my cities.  I'm a big fan of green space.  Hopefully the 12 nations will take off soon, we are just looking for 2 more.

Kim: Glad you enjoyed them.  I find it hard to get good night shots.

Casper:  Cheers mate, were you to blame for that?

Paul: Hehe, I got it from you, so you should know.

Jason:  Better late than never I guess.  Although now you know why all your work is behind... &ops

South Lester's industrial area looks great, Shaun, but some parts make me glad I don't often wear nylon apparel. What happened just below the sleaze ads - did that truck lose it's load, or - well, it looks like somebody lost something! ;)

Unfortunately, Al and Tim aren't all that unusual in RL, but amusing to see in the fantasy world. I haven't seen those markets before - where did you get them? The school campus is well done, but I hope it's widely separated from Al and Tim!

You did good!

Post by: threestooges on September 26, 2008, 12:16:07 AM
Looks like things are off to a good start this update. The lumberyard is nice and certainly looks adequate for the region's needs. The resulting industrial area looks pretty good but... there are still trees. The people at the lumber company must've missed them. Al and Tim seem to be doing some good business, Tim doing the tattoos for the girls and Al providing supplies for the fathers when they find out. Not exactly home improvement, but it works. The schools look good and their facilities seem top notch (suprised to see they both have two football fields (but they can certainly make use of them for other purposes). I agree with Robin about the lack of fences, especially with the bleachers right there (or are those for the visiting team?). As far as openings in the judge's office, you'd have to be nuts to jump into that arena in Watersford (no offense to Judge Edgren of course) but... wait a minute... I am NUTs. Ah sure, let's see what I can do there. Another good update Shaun. I hope there isn't too much damage from that hurricane you mentioned, but I'll keep an eye out for the next update either way.

That industrial yard looks great!
But what's this I hear about a hurricane warning for Port Terrington? Hope nothing bad happens.
And that's a neat building you've got there for Daeley's Lab.
Lastly, those sports fields look great, but I think I'd fill in that odd tile on the last one with a filler lot, and I think I have to second what people have been saying about fences.

The pics are great, really like the industrial grittiness of South Lester.
