I thought it was time to start a thread to show off the great SC4 videos that are out there. I have four released on YouTube at the moment - some are better than others and I'm not sure any can be considered "great".
Here is the first one I did and which has over 2,300 views at YouTube. It is a showcase of the City of Kingly in West End and compares it with RL pics from Amsterdam in Holland.
http://www.youtube.com/v/uBPPzPBjSfo&hl=en&fs=1
I hope you like it and I hope you will show your videos here as well.
Paul
paul very clever idea and I'm totally amazed at myself I didn't think of this one lol.... I will post my video's later...
nice idea Paroch and very good video &apls
Great idea Paul and your recreation of Amsterdam looks wonderful as well
I can't wait till the next video's :)
Yes, great idea there, paroch!
And the video is wonderful! Great work on it!
Looking forward to more videos, here... ;)
I couldn't pass this opportunity up. You'll want to hear the music. My Video on SAM
http://www.youtube.com/v/xCGxve_-CXY
This was a tutorial I had planned, when V3 was out. As you can see there is a lot of these type of videos on YouTube.
Even though the music was a remix of a couple of songs, which was made by partyben.com, google giving me a load of problems about it at first because of their stupid ID matching filter to some other song, but there eventually was some negotiation, otherwise you wouldn't be seeing it.
Nice vid-tutorial there j-dub, thanks for showing it. How do you record the in-game screen? I'm assuming there's a piece of sortware that does it?
that was sweet there J-Dub!!! OK as I had promissed here are some of my favorite Video's that I made...
Simlympic 1st Anniversary Video

Waterfalls... Movie Update # 4
http://www.youtube.com/v/1pFiodHhq3M&hl=en&fs=1
Great movies j-dub and Pat &apls
Great Job there Pat - had not seen the simlympics one before - a very nice round up of those host cities.
The program I use to record is Fraps, thats why you see www.fraps.com at the top of the screen. However, the game already had a way to record stuff, but it does it by stop motion, and is more time consuming to put together. When you bring up the text box after hitting cntrl-x in game, you can type the word recorder in, it gives you the option to change the amount of frames recorded, and how big you want the framed area recorded. Sounds complicated, doesn't it? With that, I personally prefer Fraps. It seems to record anything in full screen, but only for a certain amount of time.) If your only going to record stuff from SC4, the free version is just fine. However, the buttons in that program needed to be changed for me, since their defaulted to the same buttons SC4 uses.
Wonderful work there on the videos, j-dub and Pat!
They are looking great!!!
J-Dub, did you ever post that in the SAM thread, and if not, please do. That was excellent!
Okay, since I know it qualifies, I will.

Okay, since I know it qualifies, I will.
I've seen a couple of your other ones, I would suggest starting a thread for them in the NAM boards. They are very very well done.
Some nice work! Here's my latest one. Hope you like it.
<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i189.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid189.photobucket.com/albums/z141/Schulmanator/Hestorbia_Movie.flv">
Schulmanator - I loved it. I was chuckling away to myself in parts - and at times I wondered whether it was SimCity or Tropico. It was really well put together. A hint to embed the video in a thread.... use http://then%20the%20http%20address%20and%20then
J-Dub - thanks for the link to fraps. I have used the in gmae "recorder" and as you say it is somewhat time consuming and also limited. I'll give fraps a try.
To all - I'm enjoying this thread. The creativity and imagination of the members here at SC4Devotion always impresses me. It's interesting to see how different people approach their videos in different ways. I have a few more to post but won't do so yet - because Schulmanator's video deserve plenty more viewing!!
And for anyone thinking of joining in but not sure how to make a video - if you'd like me to put a tutorial together just say and if there's demand I'll see what I can do.
Great video Schulmanator  I loved the city, the cats and the effects you used!
That video is looking really nice there, Schulmanator!
Great views of your region / city!
Geeze I didn't know that this thread existed here...
I have too many videos to post. You can find them all here and select the ones you want to watch. I use the UDI mode to create a unique perspective of showcasing SC4.

nice video Haljackey &apls
Great work on your videos there, Haljackey! ;)
and a small tutorial would be nice, paroch!
I would've thought of videos for a thread. Just that I thought it would overload the site. :-\

That video is short but very SWEET frdrcklim. Really great use of the music.
Wow, very fine vidéo ;)
I thought it was time to post up another video of mine. If you've followed West End you may have seen this before - if not sit back, turn up the volume, click the screen and relax as you go on a canal boat tour of Kingly (West End's Amsterdam-based city).
http://www.youtube.com/v/2ezskZVzRsI&hl=en&fs=1
Quality videos.
frdrcklim, nice use of great shot in game recording, choice of music, and fast speed. Looks almost like a commercial, but Maxis didn't have all that modded talent our community does.
paroch, nice use of real, and in game elements, music really helps, as well as the zooming. Good job making this have a relaxed feel.
That's a great video there of your MD! Nice work on that, paroch!
great video Paroch
It must be time for another video...........
So whilst I was digging around in the West End Video Vault, I found this one. It's a tour of the Tram System in the city of Kingly.

Schulmanator - I followed the link but none of the multimedia links worked, so was unable to view them &mmm
Nice one frdrcklim! I would use that intro!
May as well post this one here:

Paroch: thanks for checking my links out... I found one not working and fixed that one. The others eem to work for me, though the buffering does seem to take a while sometimes. They are posted at full wmv size so the load times may be longer. Please let me know if they are working for you now.
Thanks Haljackey. I also made a GIF version of it in deviantart link (http://mildirk.deviantart.com/art/SimCity-4-Urban-Intro-109104074). Best,

great videos everyone!!!
how do you make them???
Maarten (martnrln) great video and great music!! is there any way to get the track you used in your video?? ()stsfd()
There's one simple way to do that: Record the sound while playing the video. If you have a good enough program that can record the sound for more than 60 seconds (max record time of the Windows Sound Recorder), you'll be able to get the track.
But let get back on topic and let us show us some more video's ;)
Best,
Maarten
Thanks! I got the complete song/track now.
Maarten that was a great video there with some real great music too!!! Could you send me a copy of the music to feature in a podcast episode?
http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/DeCgnlMBXdk
I recorded a bunch of traffic control devices either weird, or in weird places. If your wondering isn't it dangerous to drive and film, well wait til you see the end of this.
Hey Jdub that was great and I think I seen that place before in IL and no I wont say nothing your anuminity is safe with me!!!
What stinks is my video cam ran out of juice. If it didn't I would of showed you how close the rail line touches the road, and how close to people's houses it comes, the abandoned button factory turned into residents, literally right next to the train track right out their door, the abandoned caboose sitting on the rail line, and the old wooden rail way crossing signs, the speed limit 55 one way, 30 the other way through the residential area, the parking meter actually functioning if a coin was put in it, this giant ride on model rail road around a former friend's uncle's house, the air strip in someones backyard, a town that has this side street not have lights and sounds on the rail road crossing, even though the fancy red pathway near by to it has all those features, a little old fashioned farm village and newer old style houses that have no street in front of them, just sidewalk, and this handicap parking sign over wood chips.
Got another one up, and its in HD again! I hope you enjoy it!

Hey Hal great new video's!!!
Heres something different I have for you:
http://www.youtube.com/v/mM7svcYSMsQ
Showing of the Imaginian motorway A40:
http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/YRpbwdsYWBY
The A40 is about 15 km long and contains the widest stretch of motorway in Imaginia. It's an important route between the harbour Sebeshaber and the neighbouring country Bundesrepublik Schellingen
Beside that, you can also see the following stuff:
- New Euro Textures for the RHW
- Teaser! New RHW features.
- Lampposts with alternate lightcones
- Imaginian signage
- And last but not least, various interchanges!
Best,
Maarten
Great Maarten, great!! &apls

Sorry about the lag... I forgot to speed up the FPS rate.. &ops
http://www.youtube.com/v/ZDE7osq0ehw
Hey Sam, its appreciated for the time it took uploading and editing a video. Unlike YT, feel forgiven here. Realistically, a heavy truck does not accelerate that fast as a sports car, especially when it comes to tight turns and frequent elevation changes, where as a sports car could realistically drift around those corners, but not in SC4, you just can't drift over 200 mph, not to mention, anytime you go off pavement your slown down, or stopped because you can't drive into tiles, oh well.
Anyway, I use FRAPs and have even encountered lag, but you have to calculate the amount of memory the video takes, versus quality, video format/transfer/uploading speed, when it comes to 3D games, this can take up more. However, Fraps seems to be the best at capture SC4, its not 100 percent free though. CamStudio on the other hand records games like SC4 for free, less memory space then Fraps, but I have not gotten it to record sound for any game. I just had to make it seem that way by editing existing noise.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Regarding video capture, I use Fraps. The downside with the program is you need a wicked fast PC to help minimize lag and enough hard drive space to store the RAW video files. I can end up with multiple 4GB files of video data which needs to be rendered and compressed in a video editing program and PC performance comes in handy here as well.
EDIT: New page? May as well stick one of my new videos here:

I have Fraps, but only the free version as I won't get the full version. As for CamStudio, it lags a lot for me. I alter the capture rates a lot but without luck.
Thanks for your comments and advice :)
@
netmod: Here's how I inserted my video:
I took the video URL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDE7osq0ehw)
I then edited the video URL to get rid of the watch, the ? and the = surrounding the 'v' (so it's like http://www.youtube.com/v/ZDE7osq0ehw)
Then, simply click on the Flash button at the left of the row above the smileys, and paste the edited URL there. Also, editing your resolution (where it says [flash=(resolution)]) is very useful.
Hope that made sense,
Sam =)
Netmod: the video says sorry about the music, but I don't hear any music with the sound on, you may need to alter YouTube's AudioSwap music if you have not done so already.
following what samerton said, the very least resolution number you want is 800,600
so your video would look like:

After my upload for the previous upgrades, I just thought it was necessary to put a new one up.
Oh yeah, considering the RHW HOV diamonds have the same measurement compared to the middle of the AVE 6 (hint, hint)
I give you... a double feature!

It was soundless at first, but after I edited and rendered it, I guess the editor had a hiccup
@samerton: I was watching your video with a big smile on my face. I need to download that song and put it on my MP3-player :D
New video by me.

Thatssss a very nice video you have there. Would it be a sSsssShame if something were to happen to it :P
(by the way, I like the music)
Thanks! It came out much darker on Youtube than what it looked like when I recorded/rendered it, but whatever.
By the way, I'm closing on a million views on my Youtube channel, and vast majority of my videos are Simcity related. Give my other vid's a watch! (Shameless plug I know but whatever :P)

Cool videos bros! I'd do more of this myself, but I don't like game footage taking gigabytes of space, especially in today's standard for HD. There's got to be a better way, that I have not figured out, unless you guys actually are using that much data space to produce these.
Oh, I don't use HD myself. It does take up quite some Gigabytes when I record a video uncompressed (my computer doesn't seem to handle recording and compressing and running SC4 at the same time), but I'm deleting it once I have compressed it to about 1/50th of the size. And my videos don't look that bad, right?

It's normally only the recorded footage that takes up a lot of disk space. Once you render the footage in a editing program (like Windows Live Movie Maker), your videos can become much smaller, allowing you to upload it to places like Youtube without it taking an eternity and using several gigabites of any data cap from ISP providers.
For example, my latest video (this one) (http://youtu.be/1oHHhrepxxI) was 65GB in size when I recorded it yet was only 632MB in size once I rendered it, a 99% reduction.
Then again I am recording in 1920x1080 (1080p) at 60 frames per second, and my capture program can't really compress that kind of quality in real time. ::)
CasperVg: those videos are great. Look foward to many more ;) Maybe you'll make an MD ::)

@ jeckyll: Glad you liked it! :) It is the Meadowshire terrain mod if I remember correctly.
Hopefully going to turn this into some sort of irregular series until I either forget or get bored xD

That very tight turn lane reminds me of what I have to see in reality, but seriously, thank you Samerton, for making an updated RHW tutorial, maybe the developers for this next SimCity, get the idea that the look of the roads/highways stay the same as whatever region that game is played in.

Hal, how you got SC4 personalized, with the landscape in those colors, reminds me so much of how Test Drive Unlimited 2 (Hawaii) looks,
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fblondesearch.ru%2Fimg%2F41%2F419%2FTest_Drive_Unlimited_2_TDU2_Hawaii_1_Cup_Dangerous_Descent_Timed_Trial.jpg&hash=49ba6a14a720fc772d94e9d8cca1d5d730d350c4)
and in comparisson, you drive around in that game unbound, for a real, real long time.
And, good graphics Xan, that tower makes a nice light show.
I thought I'd put this here.

I'm rather happy with how this city/video turned out and thought I'd sign up and share it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh0UWfrzqNo I hope you do, too!

Don't know if anybody here is into watching longer SC4 videos, but I thought that this was a pretty good one I made. In it I put the finishing touches on my city of Jamaica, Yakutat Bay, giving a thorough overview of the city. The main body of the work in the video involves widening the southern highway leading out of the tile, a project that stretches more than a mile into the next tile in order to cover the entire length of a concurrency and that involves the construction of a partial interchange and lots of new signage in addition to a new roadway and realignments of existing ones.
I also spot signs of prop pox during the video. I'm a bit dense about realizing that the city must be infected, since it's my first time encountering the bug. Thankfully it only appeared when there was very little left to do before pronouncing the tile more or less finished and my other big cities seem to have avoided infection unscathed.

Hey Kisa Atsuko, I really enjoyed your last video, especially the first half; the highway is beautifully detailed with lamps, walls & noise barriers and looks much better then just the sum of these components, hats off to you &apls
I also like how there are trees everywhere, even on the diagonal avenue, looks great and much more alive!
Cool video's &apls. A very nicely detaild city you've got.

A couple of snowy day and night scenes. I still can't figure out how to embed, so if anyone wants to let me know, feel free to PM me.
*snip*
In order to embed a video, you'll need to take the full video URL (in your case, it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4U4jdFAGQw).
Then, modify the URL to remove the "watch" and "?", and replace the "=" with "/" to look like the following:
https://www.youtube.com/v/R4U4jdFAGQw
Put this URL between [flash][/flash] tags to look like the following:
[flash=640,500]https://www.youtube.com/v/R4U4jdFAGQw[/flash]
You can change the 640,500 resolution parameters to anything you want.
Hope that helps.
Thank you samerton. It worked as you can see from my amended post.

The only thing that i dislike is the changes in wealthes on streets. You are using alot of sings to get great details but on the highway your will see many different textures.
