yay, I've been looking forward to this going up. If I have additions do I just post them as replies and you'll add them? Good work, finally an Australian compendium.

EDIT: Actually, if you'd like to PM them to me (just to keep the thread clean), just note that this is only LEX for the time being, Simtrop was down at the time of post.

I gotta say, Deadwoods Retail Series is a must have for creating any australian town/centre  nice list btw.

Quite a few years back, I saw a set of "Trees of the Southern Hemisphere".   I don't think I downloaded them at the time because there was something in the desription about a conflict.   Has anyone out there seen them or at least remember them?   If so, any idea where to find um?

the only reference I've been able to find so far to anything like that is "Seasonal Tree Southern Hemisphere Mod 024" which is listed somewhere at SIMPEG, but as I'm getting the "403 Permission denied" error when I try to log on I can't check to see if the trail continues... ()what()

Andreas

I'd assume that this mod only covers PEG's trees anyway, so it's not of much use if you use other seasonal trees as well. Such a mod actually consists of a copy of the prop exemplar files where the start date for displaying the prop is adapted for the Southern hemisphere, i. e. the prop for spring wouldn't show a flowering tree, but one with colorful autumn leaves. Another method would be to exchange the reference to the model ID, so the spring prop would show the autumn tree model. The latter method has the advantage that the change would be "on the fly", even for existing cities. It's relatively easy to create such a mod, but it will take a while since you have to collect all prop exemplar files from all seasonal props (four exemplars per prop) and change the times. I'm not sure what "conflict" PEG is referring to in the description, but if the exemplar files are properly modded, it should work fine.

I've just realised the DEDWD Factory Lots linked to above is just the props, not the lots. I'm working on fixing it. Sorry. &ops

EDIT - Done. The Factory Units download is now fixed. It contains the Factory Unit lots in an assortment of growable sizes (2x3, 2x4, 3x3, 3x4 and a 6x6). The props are contained in the BSC Mega Props - DAE Vol01 (also on the LEX DVD).

Also, when I moved all my content over from the STEX I missed a set of small redbrick shops I built. Whilst these are not specifically Australian, they are based on those found around Camberwell and similar suburbs in Melbourne.

Ther are four downloads in the set:

  • Small Shops Props - these are actually the various different shopfronts as props
  • Small Shops 1x1 Set - a set of single and double storey red brick shops with gabled tin roofs on a 1x1 lot, all growable
  • Small Shops 1x2 Set - similar to the 1x1 shops, but the buildings extend back to cover a 1x2 lot, all growable
  • Small Shops Flat Roof Set - both the 1x1 and 1x2 buildings remodeled to replace the gabled roof with a flat roof found more in the northern hemisphere.

I'm particualrly pleased with this set; the brick colour turned out well, the roofs look good and work well in the game and the shopfronts give a degree of uniqueness (between the 66 different building fronts and various building shapes/sizes, theres quite a combination). Hopefully they'll be appearing in aussie cities everywhere  ;D

This fantastic list, an unparalleled resource for Australian SC4 players which was posted by the sadly departed Adroman, is in need of some fixing up. All the LEX links are fine but the STEX addresses have all changed (same ID numbers but different format). I am happy to go through and fix what I can find - if someone can allow me access to be able to do it...?
(plus there will be some other releases in the interim and I am about to release some Aussie shops).
Cheers.

Don't know if you noticed, but its more 6 years since last post.

Good idea if you want to make an update list, is to open up a new thread with the update links in.

Been maintaining a list of trains.

The STEX changes the link now and again. 3rd or 4th time, I gave up.

I ended up writing this:
What you can do is a google search:
http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/£££££*
Replace the £££££ with the file number at the end of the wanted link.

Usually I am quick to jump in when someone starts opening old threads. But in the case of this one, updating the existing thread makes way more sense than duplicating lists all over the place. It's hard enough to find things sometimes, so fragmenting the lists intended to keep things tidy is not a great idea.

I don't have powers to edit these things myself, you'll probably need to find an Admin for that. But if you make a list of the broken links and update them here in a post, someone should be able to move them so they are merged with the first part of this thread.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone

I realise it's been a long time, and I certainly don't restart a thread like this lightly. I could start a new thread but mgb204 spoke a great truth there:

updating the existing thread makes way more sense than duplicating lists all over the place. It's hard enough to find things sometimes, so fragmenting the lists intended to keep things tidy is not a great idea.

To underline this - a google search for "simcity 4 australia" has this page in the number one position...: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=simcity+4+australia&oq=simcity+4+australia&gs_l=serp.3..0j0i30k1j0i5i30k1.4726.9863.0.14964.10.7.0.0.0.0.2170.3378.7-1j0j1.2.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..8.2.3372...0i7i30k1.y-srmzYLKuY

So to me it makes far more sense to update this one. Plus I think it's a bit of a legacy for adroman.

Thanks sunset_baby and vester for your ideas on speeding up the process, I'll see which approach works best for me. I noticed joelyboy911 was online in the last fortnight (he started Team Downunder with Adroman), he may have the necessary privileges (or hopefully an admin can adjust mine - as a member of TD...?)
