I have been following your creations for a long time and have become a collector of them. The Children's Palace is yet another great addition to an already wonderful series. Like Cal said the nightlighting is truly exceptional beautiful.

PS: you have to change the anti-aliasing settings of your graphics card a bit to get rid of the stripes on the building as seen in your picture.

I first thought you created a fantasy building. But then I stumbled upon this drawing on the ineternet:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv75%2FNicolaiS%2FSC4%2FSuggestionFour1.jpg&hash=20d2d7f40279f6b7f38e2ce49a48e08e55c8a2af)

You call batting this easy? Amazing.

anyone know if there is a fsh file editor out there that allows you to move the fsh image directly on the models? Cuz i am having problem exporting the cctv, the order of the fsh image just messed up, so i wonder is there something that could fix it.
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: Tarkus on April 27, 2007, 06:39:09 PM
dmscopio:  iLive's Reader does have a tool for affecting the FSH skin on S3D files, but with a complicated BAT like that, it would be rather difficult.  Mainly, it's just used by the transit modding community for applying transit textures to puzzle pieces.  You could sort out which FSH files are placed where on the model quite easily, though.

Also, are you using 3ds Max, GMAX/BAT, or another program entirely?  If you are using GMAX/BAT, do you have the patch for it?  Without it, textures tend to get really messed up occasionally.

If you have a pic of the model with the FSH files messed up, that could help in diagnosing the problem.

Hope that helps.

if you look at renders of the top of the ghangzou tower, you will note it is actually an outdoor pefromance area at 450m up...

This stadium is really huge, I've been there several times, even if I'm NOT a fan of Bavaria Munich  Actually I hate that club, but however, they've got a nice stadium ^^
I think the roof-tiles should be many more, or am I wrong?
BTW: Have fun with the nightlight  :D Please create a version for 1860 Munich too, cause they are usin' this stadium aswell.

I think your work is simply fantastic and love using them in my cities, allows me to add that modern and somewhat futuristic aspect to them.

Thought I'd post an example of the recents BAT's used for a new national stadium complex.

I just wanted to congratulate you for your excellent execution of the Allianz Arena. Though I can't actually neither stand FC Bayern Munich nor the stadium itself (been there once and everything was VERY chaotic!!!) you did a great job there, even nightlights are just like in RL.
Any chance you may tackle the HSH Nordbank Arena (former AOL Arena), Hamburg's football stadium? though a bit smaller and not of so fancy design, it's definatly one of the finest stadiums in europe... (nah, just kidding, don't want to request anything  $%Grinno$% )

thanks yoder, praiodan and patfirefghtr! I been working on something different lately, a brand new stadium. It is the New Anfield stadium. Some of you may notice there is already a new anfield stadium out there. but thats the old plan before the take over of Tom Hick and George Gillett. Now they have scape the old plan and come up with this one:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.icnetwork.co.uk%2Fupl%2Fliverpoolpost%2Fjul2007%2F6%2F9%2F036FF511-0E4C-ECD1-BCC7862737828270.jpg&hash=bc7669fe55072a29896fa986c336f7a876566687)
Totally different from the one i made, which i think is even better. As a loyal Liverpool fan I decide to bat it and here is the progress so far:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg123.imageshack.us%2Fimg123%2F1927%2Fr1po0.jpg&hash=48257a131645d6cf569dc8cf193f3f3e83861b1e)

Anyway, more update will come shortly. Any is comment appreciated.

I loved your old version of New Anfield (using it in my capital), it was very original.
This new New Anfield is of somewhat real fancy design and kind of reminds me more of american stadiums than of a modern european football stadium. Anyways, this will be very interesting to follow...
A question concerning the roof of the real structure, just wondered: can it be closed (like Amsterdam ArenA oder the Arena auf Schalke/Veltinsarena)? Looks like a bit to me that way.
Oh, and some off-topic, sorry, just can't resist ;D
I love following what's going on in the Premier League, though, I don't like that multi-billionaires are buying the clubs (esp. Chelsea stinks, no offence!).
On the other hand, the many superstars that are around the league make the played football there quite attractive to follow (I loved to watch Arsenal's quick and direct combinations. I wonder how they can compensate the gone Henry! But also ManU's style was very impressing last year with an phenomenal Ronaldo).
I guess with Torres the Reds made a good deal, okay, 36.000.000 € is quite a bit, but should be worth such a great striker. I look forward to how he will harmonize with Gerrard, Alonso etc ;D
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: dmscopio on August 08, 2007, 06:24:54 PM
thanks patfirefght, nova vesfalo and praiodan.as you nay have notice, there are no texture in the model yet, including the glass, so don't worry, it will not be this green when it is finished. as for roof question,  i don't think it is it closable, it didn't mentioned in the official plan, but thats definitely a great idea.

@Praiodan, i don't mind those billionaire buying football teams as long as they willing to do what is best for the club and the fans. I agree with you on Chelsea. Chelsea's owner brought 2 new super star player against the will of the manager and players, eventually costing their premiership title. Torres is a good signing for liverpool but i don't expect him being the only solution to the offensive line, especially on his first season in liverpool. I still think the performances from players like Gerrard, Carregher, Pennant, and Riise are the key to win the title. And hopefully, Torres will merge into the team as time go by.

thank you all so much for the comments!right now the model itself is finished, maybe some fine tunning on the details and texture and then finish the night light. I've been busy with RL lately and only have time to work on it during the weekend. So if everything goes as planned, it should be finished next week. compare to the Allianz, it has less polygons and not as complex, so faster to render/export too. Anyway, I am glad that you all like it.

Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: Andreas on September 10, 2007, 10:36:26 AM
The New Anfield model looks fantastic. The only thing that bugs me a little is that the roof looks a tad too "solid", as if it was made out of a single piece. Some very subtle, but still visible seams that show it's made out of precise sheets of metal (at the metal part) and probably some roof junk on the grey parts (even if there is absolutely no roof junk on the real building) would make it a bit more lively.

If there is no roof junk on the actaully real building, then why add it to this BAT, I think it would ruin the look of what is a fabulous stadium and BAT

Well, because that fabulous BAT looks way too pristine. If it's not roofjunk, then it's some dust and water puddles that have created over the time. ;)

Yes, totally agree with that.  I'm not keen on the the 'not enough roof junk' thing, myself.  A city has a whole mix of buildings, some will have roofjunk, some will be plain, some will be new and clean, some will be old and grungy.  The key thing is the mix across the whole city, not any individual building.

Looking at the design of the stadium, roofjunk would ruin its clean lines completely compromising the design. This is a fantastic model of an incredible new stadium - athough I think the previous design was more appropriate as a new Anfield.

Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: dmscopio on September 10, 2007, 01:39:21 PM
I don't have any reference on the roof material of New Anfield since the stadium construction is not started yet. I already put in some sort of filters for ventilation on the lower roof, so i don't think it needs another sets of roof junks. but thanks for the suggestion, Andreas.
And the BOC model is done, in fact it was done a while ago, i just don't have time to finish it up for the lighting part. so i will try to find some night picture of this tower first, and come up with nitelite for it. thanks guys!
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: Andreas on September 10, 2007, 02:22:33 PM
Well, actually, my comment about the roofjunk was a general suggestion. As I said before, the slightly odd thing is that the whole roof seems to be made of one piece, which is obviously not the case. You can model it like this in an architectural model, but personally, I think it looks a tad artificial - it's too perfect. ;)

if you look at the back of the tower there is some king of entry for the parking lot and passenger drop off/pick up area. I will try to find a picture later.

Hum the roof junks...there should be some roof junks right? or should it.....what do you think?the roof is not a flat surface so it is impossible for anyone to walk on, but still roof junks can still be placed up there. I am just going to throw the question to you guys see what you think.

Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: Emperor Stormont on September 25, 2007, 08:14:16 AM
No roof junk, I think it would ruin the look of the building

I really don't understand the desire for roof junk, we do now have more advanced ways of heating/cooling a building as well as being able to hide/cover pipework etc etc
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: beskhu3epnm on September 25, 2007, 08:19:32 AM
I will have to go with belfastuniguy on this one.... it's like... would the designers not find a way to keep the building as intact to the original design as possible, or would they not consider that junk would clutter the building? (if that makes sense)

But I think you will hear it from both sides on this issues, so the decision is ultimately yours. Your fans will support you no matter what!

An incredible BAT  &apls &apls

Personally I think that it should stay as it is without junk. Its distinctive enough as it is and doesn't
need unnecessary "junk". It would probably even distract your eye from all the wonderful details
you already have. - thats my 2p worth ;D

Either way the decision is yours and I shall eagerly wait its upload

which is a bit different from what i am making.

You've certainly created a beautiful model in this wonderful hotel.  It is surely going to be a joy to have in any city!

As beautiful as it is, however; I really believe you need to put some roof junk on it.  The roof as it is right now is just too plain and "one dimentional."  Even the real life picture shows a roof "shed" in the middle of the roof as well as some vent pipes.  I truly believe it would make the roof look better.

Regards,

Gary

you guys all make good points here. i am trying to figure a way to give "another dimension" to the roof yet not being distractive. I am thinking doing the same kind of vet filter/fans in the new anfield:

Hey Dms, awesome work lately!!

For this building where you have circled in red... I think the best thing for an area such as this would be people, tables, flower pots, etc.  In many stadiums like this the "roof" is actually part of the terrace in which people use to walk around and find their section or box.  I think it would be very good if you could add some people, benchs, etc. for this area.

Gosh....has it been this long? 120 days?but anyway, i am back to the scene. I am sure a lot of been going on with NHP team, and of course a lot of changes happened in my RL over the pass few months. But i am glad that i am back, and with new projects!
anyway first of all, i just have my personal website finished: www.davidluart.com (http://142.179.100.2/davidluart/) (reconfiguring the IP address, need 24-72 hours to take effects....check back later), in the download section, you can have exclusive download of my latest BATs creations, which also includes the New Anfield.
Second news is that i got some new BAT project coming, such as the original anfield stadium, Guangzhou Pearl River Tower, and more. Some teaser images have been showed on my website and i will be back with more info.

Also if you have any request ie, re-release some of my older BATs please post here or in the guest book. As requested, the Shenzhen City Hall will be available on the site later. The reason of having a website is that there is no file size limited for the BATs files, easier management and faster upload speed. And also I can share some of my other works such as paintings, logo design and architecture with you guys.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. Make me feel like back to home again.  ;)

as promised, here is one of the new project. The tower is located in shenzhen(where i live right now), it is called the SZ world Trade Center, it is actually the headquarter of the China Merchants Bank, one of the biggest banks in China.
here is some progress:

Oooo...pretty... ;D

can you release a verison without the graduation day hat?
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: dmscopio on May 26, 2008, 05:29:36 AM
Pat, I will just release one version as it it because it is suppose to be a recreation of the original building. Beside, i think the tower will be too boring without the "graduation hat". However, there are plenty of buildings in here might interest you:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.skyscrapers.cn%2Fdiagram%2Fasia%2Fchina%2Fshenzhen%2FShenzhen_International_Chamber_of_Commerce_Tower.jpg&hash=42a0641efc5d6f0b43fb4f0abd11ee2bb4177ed4)
this one looks like the SZWTC without the hat, might be something you looking at?

anyway, I just wondering is there any modders in the team? it is been a long time since i make a mod for my bats and i almost forgot how to do it again. So any modders in the team willing to offer me help on modding my bats?

Unfortunately, I lost the necessary dependencies pack for this version. I wasn't able to recreate the running tracks. Perhaps someone can tell me what pack are those running track textures are in? Sorry about that....

If you give the information like that, many people won't find it. Those textures are part of BSC Textures Vol2 Megapack, and can be found here - http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=638

That's why I posted an image on my previous post, one page back. ;)

Just to let you know:

I had to reLOT the base of the tower... there were some texture errors that needed fixing. However, the lot is the same as the original.

Modding's coming along nicely. It's taking a while, since I'm a bit busy at times.

Oh, don't be silly M4346, i will send you and SA a PM later about modding the tower and the hotel. it would be great to have more modder in the team.

SA: the lot error maybe caused by the transit enable tiles, don't worry just do whatever needed to do, and take your time. maybe i can announce the Pearl River Tower is coming soon at the website.

It was a LE glitch, it seems as if the overlay became the base texture for some reason. It's fixed now anyway.

EDIT: Now, I ran your building through PIM-X... and it gave me 4529 jobs for CO$$$... :P

Definitely a stage 8. :P

I don't know if SA wants me to re-lot the Functional LM and LM, but here's what I've done thus far with the CO$$$8 growable.

I'll also create a CAMeLOT that will look the same as this one.

Any comments / suggestions?

If the LOT is fine - and if SA wants to keep his LM lots' layout as is - then I can package it (Readme, Installer, etc.) and have it sent to the scrutineers. By the way, is it NHP DMS Pearl River Tower?

QuotePearl River Tower is a skyscraper that is under construction at the junction of Jinsui Road/Zhujiang Avenue West, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, China. The lead architect is Gordon Gill: formerly of the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and now partner in the firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. It will be 309.6 metres tall with 69 floors and a total floor area of 212,165 m².

Designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, construction started in 2006 and completion is planned for autumn 2009. It is intended for office use and will be occupied by the China National Tobacco Corporation.

The building is being designed with energy conservation in mind, including wind turbines and solar, humidity and rainwater collectors and arguably will be one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the world. Indeed, it is intended that the systems will generate more energy than operation of the building will use. Source: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl River Tower">Wikipedia</a>

Included are four LOTs: A functional CO$$$ Landmark, an eye-candy Landmark, a CO$$$8 and a CAMeLOT CO$$$10 lot. Keep only the LOTs most relevant to you, and remember that you need the CAM installed to use the CAMeLOT.

The photo was just taken at "night" (you know, time waits for no man...)

EDIT:

Here are some more:

The people don't show up, and those that you do see are the "night people". It does have quite a few people during the day.

oooh my wow there Dm that is simply stunning work!!! I love the Haywood and also the new tower there, great job on both of those so far... One thought though from me is in that center area between the 2 buildings are you going to add in a plaza area at per chance and if you do I think some large area of water effect would sit well there... That is my thoughts for that open space...
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: dmscopio on July 17, 2008, 08:48:00 AM
Thanks for the suggestion, Pat. The center plaza is still untouched right now, more details will be put in definitely. there are a lot of possibilities for that area, i am thinking some flora, ground lighting, and out door coffee shops. a fountain would be nice also. it is pretty open at this moment, so suggestions are welcome. Also i am searching for ideas for those roof, i am thinking creating some roof gardens, green houses, and so, instead of traditional roof junks. what do you think?

Casper, the new lot looks great, but i do have one suggestion. can you make the feel of it more "tropical" or "coastal" because it suppose to be a beach resort hotel. maybe you can use some palm trees, and some beach sand textures. you can even make a version that the hotel sit on top of the beach, like an earlier version i made:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg404.imageshack.us%2Fimg404%2F1253%2Fnewcityjan1800119061812lk9.png&hash=805f7d23cd6b30b3f3f8ba5afb53a76e13db648c)

what do you guys think?

one more thing, did you create a functional plopable or it is just an eye candy landmark? anyway, thank you.
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: CasperVg on July 18, 2008, 08:45:45 PM
I had thought about that myself too, I could probably make two versions of the lot; one for people who wish to use it on beaches and one for those people who would enjoy building it inland. I am/have modding/modded it to be a functional landmark, but one issue that could arise with the beachside version is that modding it to be functional is, albeit possible, not wanted, as in order to provide road access to it, you would need to build streets/roads over your beaches, so it would have to be modded as a park so it doesn't need road access.

Greetings,
Casper

gaotingguxiu: did you meant the anfield stadium? The model is sent to M4346 for lotting and modding, i haven't heard from M4346 yet, maybe still on the trip to US right now. so just be patient.

meanwhile, some new progress on the tower, and i am gonna call it "the New Horizon Tower" as a tribute to the team:

next just need someone to Mod it. However, all the modders seems are all busy with RL at the moment. the other two buildings(Anfield and Heywood 2) are ready to be released, just need to be moded. So I am asking anyone else here can offer me helps on modding these files(the Anfield, Heywood2, and the New Horizon Tower)? all i need is just plopable(CAM and None CAM) version, and growable version(CAM and None CAM). And also I just curious is there an easier way to create plopable with some kind of tool? anyway, hope someone here can help. Cheers!

Those towers are looking good there - they are a real "stand out" landmark.

And as for Anfield - very nicely done.  It's great to see more English football stadiums being made. I'll be downloading it for sure.  Do you take on requests for other English stadiums?  There is one I have in mind ;)

I guess my avatar was a big clue!!

Yes, a BAT of Upton Park would be the thing I'd like to see most in SC4.  I guess there is a lot of work involved in batting a stadium, but if you are ever thinking of doing another one then Upton Park is a great example of a typical English football stadium where the club have tried to modernise the stadium by adding to the old style stands.

Oh My God!!!!!

David - that is truly amazing.  I have to say that you have done an amazingly good re-creation, I can even see the bit where the entrance door I go in by would be  ;)  You say it is early stages - but I have to say that it looks 80-90% complete to me.

My next visit to Upton Park is Saturday 20th September.  I will make sure that I take my camera with me and get plenty of pictures of the East Stand.   I was there on Saturday for a 4-1 victory but was not sure which pictures you would need.

I will try and find some pictures on line in the meantime.  If you need anything else from me, just say.

Hey Richard, thanks for providing that link to David.

David,
The Live Map picture must be over a year old because there is now a HUGE advertisement on the roof of the East Stand see here. (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3280/2399080031_aa33ec7eac.jpg?v=0)  I'll leave it to you to decide whether to include this - I guess it may look a bit artificial in game.

Paul

David,

This has been the bat I have been waiting for on SC4 for sooooo long.  I love what you are doing with my beloved Boleyn Ground.

One thing you may want to consider for added realism........

The gap between the edge of the pitch and the East Stand is much bigger than the gap between the pitch and the West Stand.  The grass goes all the way but the pitch is not in the centre.  The reason for this is that when they built the new West Stand they moved the pitch about 5-10 metres westwards.  The plan was to demolish the old East Stand and completed the four sides of the ground with modern stands that totally enclosed the pitch.  The club ran out of money and that part of the project has never developed.  I guess your pitch position looks nicer and makes more sense.  So the choice is yours.  Sensible position where you have it now, or RL position by making th pitch off-centre and move towards the West Stand.  Minor point and I respect your decision.

This is looking better than I could have imagined David - I am VERY impressed.

Thanks,

Paul

I've considered trying to make Upton Park a number of times, but have always backed away from it as being a project that's too big for me.  It's really great to see that the stadium is going to make it into the game and I have to say you've made a fantastic job of it.

David, this is a very fine stadium creation of yours and though I rather consider me a gooner (ok it's not really being a fan of Arsenal, but actually of their playing style, which often is just awesome - recently watched the match against Newcastle. Heck, that was great...) I guess this could find a way into one of my cities as well ;D

The complex is also very good. One question though: will you release it as a stand-alone bat, or as several different props? I know that I would prefer the later (for more flexible lotting if you are into selfmade lots ;D )

CabraBuitre; the NHP club house was released long time ago...it's part of the NHP golf course project(FLOG) leaded by jplumbley...I created the clubhouse models for the project. I think here is  the link: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=795
the actual building props are listed in the readme file, please read the instruction for the prop pack links...if you have lotting skill, you may also make custom lots with these prop as well, here is an example by Fox in the simtropolis:

How 'bout "great"?  :P

This looks very good already I think, though unfortuatly I guess I will never come around to use it in my cities (just a tad too extravagant and big for my personal taste, considering the size of my cities). If you ever come around to create a "smaller" and rather unspectacular (well, up to 60.000 seats  :D) stadium, might I throw in the Volksparkstadion (officially called HSH Nordbank Arena, former AOL Arena, but it will always be the Volksparkstadion for Hamburg fans like me  :P) in Hamburg as an inspiration?   $%Grinno$%

But let me come back to he actual topic, which is the FNB... I was just wondering, from which materials you're working from, as I seem to get quite differing renderings of it when I google for FNB Stadium. You have any special source?

I still have your Allianz stadium and Guanghoz Tower as the crowning features as the National Stadium :)

Emperor Stormont: thanks, good to see my BATs in your cities nation, it is an true honor for me. this is the reason why i am still making bats.
Simpson: thank you, now you can get it in your city now.
M4346: yes, i agree with you on the crowning achievement...SA will host a very successful world cup in 2010. You should be very proud of it. hopefully China will host one soon.
Kelis: Thank you for dropping, but sorry to let you know i got no plan batting on the HK conventional center(although my place just right next to it...), maybe in the future...

Everyone, I just wanna say thank you for your support. Been busy with school works lately, try to find some more time to do the bats. It is been 2 years since my first bat released, and i am glad that i learned so much and have made so many friends in the simcity communities over the last two years.
I hope you all enjoy playing around with my bats, and you are always welcome to share the pictures here. I will have the update about my new projects here regularly.

emilin: yes, the lot is huge, it is 18x18...thanks for dropping by again.
jacqulina; Thank you!
art128: good to know you're using it, hope you can show me some picture in the near future.
Simpson: Thank for the kind words, hope you enjoy it.
CarmineHilton: Hope you installed the SC4 again, looking forwards to see your CJ updates.
Engorn: As promise, you can play around with the FLOG clubhouse now. Good luck with the golf course.
blade2k5: Thanks for being a loyal fans, my friend! your support is important to me. Take care, my friend.
Pat: Thanks, you can get the old shenzhen series in the simtropolis... i don't have plan putting them on my site at the moment, that would require too many space for the server. Sorry about that.

Dmscopio, can you upload your university pack 1 to the LEX? Also, when I downloaded your university stadium, I thought there was going to be a track in it, since you had posted a pic of it with a track. If you have the file for that version, could you send it to me, please? My hopes fell when I downloaded the University Sports Pack 1. &mmm

Sorry to inform you that the track version of the university stadium is lost because i move to a new computer long time ago. And i lost the texture package with the track texture as well...sorry about that. i do remember someone pointed out the download link of that texture pack in here, you can have search on this topic.

Anyway, i am back from the holiday and it was great. And i got good news for you guys, i am working a new supertall tower.

It is proposed for my hometown Shenzhen, it is call the Pin'An center(direct translation). the actual building is to be completed in 2014. But I thnink i could finish it before that... :P

Engorn: I only make it road transit enable, i did not make an avenue transit enable version because i dont have the avenue texture in LE. I think the road version is good for now...

Ennedi: OMG, those picture just stunning, very good use of the clubhouse, i can just imagine people inside have a full ocean view. Very nice, and plz keep sharing pics. thanks!

no, the new building is not finished yet, but here is the progress. There is already different version of it, because the "client" of the project keep changing the requirement. However, i think this one is the final design now.

iamgoingtoeatyou: You mean the LaQua Park? Nah, I am creating something similar, an original design. it is more fun for me to have my own design, however, i draw reference from the LaQua Park.
But lately, I been working on another small project, the Disney Concert Hall in LA:

nice to know you are actually living in Bilbao! I do need some more reference of the building. is it possible that you can take some photo from a high building nearby the Guggenheim? i need a clear aerial view picture like this one here:

Hi,

This new project is really sensational. You meet very well the curves of the Guggenheim. But perhaps you will need this for textures

Quote from: jmyers2043 on February 19, 2009, 08:26:50 PM
Hello Orange-0-

It appears that you are having a little difficulty with the white texture for your church. There is a lot of glow and you've lost all the texture detail.

One this to keep in mind with the in game white is that the Maxis buildings are not bright white. To test this you can get a screen grab of some of the Maxis white buildings and then use the color picker tool of your paint program. You will see that the brightest white buildings are usually around R=220, G=220, and B=220.  I don't recall seeing any buildings with brighter whites than RGB=220. So - when I do a bat I usually make my whites around RGB = 190 to 200.  The texture below is my painted white concrete texture with cuts. Note the RGB levels.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fglow01.jpg&hash=a1755a55bb12f8b3389d66dafc6068ddfda7f295)

White is a particularly difficult thing to get right for a bat. It is most noticeable on a curved surface. No matter how dark you make your white there will always be a huge glowing area. I applied the above texture to a box with two bends.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fglow02.jpg&hash=95b4f887d18db53889a4d5cdd1db81678deea631)

The way to get around this is to clone a second box. Use the scale tool and make it slightly larger than the original. In the picture below you will see that I made box02 1% larger. I also made a copy of the original texture but I applied 30% opacity to it. Then UV mapped the semi opaque texture to box02. The result is that you can have a curved white surface that still retains texturing detail.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fglow03.jpg&hash=f623c62eb9dcb2ac36979e468336f4a390a9e2f6)

Here you go. Box02 with its semi opaque texture is wrapped around Box01. This gives me a curved white surface with little or no glare. In fact, you can control the amount of glare buy increasing or reducing the amount of opacity.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fglow04.jpg&hash=a288bc1f2fc0f78573dc67afbb69b1584e21398c)

You may want to try this with your next 'white building with curved walls'.

OK, I will try tomorrow (if I had known that you need that point of view earlier I would took it yet, I just arrived from the area of the Guggenheim). Anyway, I don't know if it's possible to have a photo from a point of view like that. The museum is taller than any building around it (in three years it will be a tower near it, but is a lot of time to wait :D), but I will try taking the photo anyway...

in addition to big if you want to go really off the wall for architecture, check out Evolo [linkie] (http://www.evolo-arch.com/), they run annual open skyscraper and housing design competitions and the entries are mad. not many are sc4 applicable but for ideas that are out there, this  site is second to none.

so is the pingan tower going to be actual size???? if so, are you going to do it on a megalot with its neighbour you have already batted, coco park...

see the plans near the bottom of the page to see how close the main tower is to COCO park, like opposite sides of the same street, plus considering the second tower is on the block on the other side of the main road how huge this beast is. Engorn: no problem, thank you for pointing out the onld link of the SZ library and Music Hall is dead. I am still working on the Guggenheim, the building is massive, and the lot is a bit tricky, part of it is near the water. Not sure i will make a lot that requires plop next to the water...what do you think?

Pat: Yes, I would like to go back working on the university pack. I got an interesting idea: I can take request from people on batting the university buildings they went to. In that case, i need reference. Or i can come up with a design base on what people requested. Of course, there is a selection process, most likely i am looking at modern styles with some interesting design. So anyone is welcome to make request now. In fact, i been taking requests lately, the Sanye center is a good example:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg19.imageshack.us%2Fimg19%2F6734%2F84680901.jpg&hash=d73f1e7c87eaac4aee248401703f7cae61db353f)

mightygoose: yes, the PingAn is already released, way more faster than the actual building. Recently some leaked sources from PingAn states that there might not be a 646m tower, a shorter one will be built instead. Hopefully that is just a rumor. any way, it is done as it is, i will not make a maga lot for it with COCO Park, as you can see you can easily plop it next to the COCO Park. But thank you for the attention. Hope you will enjoy it.

Thank you again for the nice comments and suggestions, will work on the projects once i can. More pic of the Guggenhiem is coming up soon. But before that, i will go the COLDPLAY concert in HK tonight!!!! so excited!!! WOW COLDPLAY!!! will share some pics in the concert with you guys if you want! got to go now, take care guys!

I think that if the lot requires plop next to the water it will minimize the possibilities of plopping the museum. Actually, the Guggenheim is near a river, but its not on the river as the Sydney Opera House is on the bay water, so I don't consider that making it ploable only near the water will be a great idea.
In my opinion, may be more tricky how to give a solution to the change of the level of the ground, if you know what I mean.

I have also a proposal for your university project.
In the German town Lüneburg, near Hamburg, Daniel Libeskind is currently developing a new campus for the Leuphana University. Not everybody will like his plans but I think that they are very nice and something really special.

these two are great for next university pack, and they all have detail references. great suggestions guys!

ObladiOblada: I think this one have a very special design and it could be a individual CV lot on its own. I think it would be more appropriate to make a dedicated project for this instead of including it in a pack. Thanks for sharing!

Dmscopio, I've been looking the preview images of the Guggenheim on your website and I see that there is a problem, I think nothing difficult to solve. Look, the part where Puppy is (the flower covered dog), is connected with a road, so this part is higher than the part next to the river. May be it will be great to give the chance when you plop the museum in the game to let it at the same level, the museum and the ground, of course with a previous appropriate terraforming of the area (knowing the height of the museum's ground). My suggestion for this is to let this part "out" of the lot, so when you plop it, it could be "covered" by the ground, if you know what I mean :-[
On other hand, I see that you have done that part as a solid, and in the real museum a road and the GLR pass under the square where Puppy is. I can't find any images of this, so I will take some this week ;)
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: dmscopio on March 28, 2009, 10:06:10 AM
Engorn: yes, i know what you mean. I can make that part a plop and make it go out of the lot, However, the only problem is how tall does it need to be. The higher terrain need to be the same height as the puppy platform, so i need to figure out how tall is it in the 3ds max space...i think i will export some testing models for this. I also noticed the underpass issue you mentioned. that one is easy to fix. Thanks for the suggestion.

I found lots of Uni pictures here (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=443522)

That is one of coolest looking blds I've ever seen and is so futuristic looking, at least compared to what's been built so far in the real world.

SpeedyFarrar:Welcome, and thank for posting. The Stata Center is definitely in my short list for the university pack. Thanks for the request.

blade2k5: Thanks for the request. This is the Shanghai tower, which will be the tallest in China by 2014. Alot of people in simcity.cn have requested this one for me. But it is such a complex project and i will have to wait till my other project finished. Maybe some day....Anyway, thanks for sharing.

And here i did some testing for the guggenheim lot, It appears that the trick i mentioned to Engorn is not working. By rising up the ground level to fit the lot will make the whole thing look wired. Here is the result:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg8.imageshack.us%2Fimg8%2F5647%2Fnewcitymar2800123842078.png&hash=2f94c9ed8df9aa166b04e9e2b6620f633d33d124)

The building will just cut into the terrain and not blending well with the terrain.  :(

So now i think i will just leave it the way it is....or anyone got another suggestion?

May be you could look at how sunken stations are made...
Did you try to make your building to be a prop? I think it may solve some of the problems...

Is there a tutorial or forum around? The sunken station is below the ground level right? If so there is no shadow issue like this one...and i am still thinking a way to solve the problem of blending the edge of the building to the slope of the terrain. Not sure it is possible thought. Oh, the whole thing is a prop, and it goes out of the lot to meet the higher terrain.

I don't quite understand what you mean by blending... But I bet not the same thing I do. So could you clarify this a bit.

As for Sunken stations, I haven't seen any tutorials but you could study the SC4Modle files there is some info there. They aren't below ground, and that's why you don't get that "reversed" shadow effect. They are propes placed at the basic elevation of the lot and are covered by any terrain that is above that level.

Bad news about the guggenheim...I have try everything to export it, but still encounter the same problem. I'd tried merging it in the new scene and clear out the plugins folder, but none of the them solve the problem. Anyone know what is it that causing the mess of the texture? I have break it into 3 parts for export...could it be the problem?

This looks familiar to me. Have you installed the GMAX BAT texture fix? If not, installing it will most probably fix your problem. Afterwards you will have to render everything again.

Thanks Praiodan, i will download the fix and try it later. One question, i am only using GMAX for exproting the LOD, but not the actual BAT. I am using BatforMax for the actual exporting. Will it fix the texture problem of this case? Anyway, i will try it since it is the only thing I can do now. Thanks.

The "Texture Fix" is actually a modified script that changes the ID assignment of the files within the *.SC4Model, so they won't clash with the Maxis IDs anymore. Since the LODs are basically the "canvas" where the rendered textures are "painted" on, I'd assume that it works in your case as well. This means it might be enough to re-render the LODs, actually, but since I never worked with BAT4Max, I can't comfirm that (and I don't know if you can render the LODs separately from the actual rendering process with 3DStudioMax).

Maybe you guys can give me some suggestion. I try to stay away from the similar looks of the Beijing watercubes tho....I want an original design this time.

Woah that stadium is amazing! what's the physics behind those huge cables? would it work in RL?

As for a swimming arena, how about something like this in Berlin, velodrome and swimming combined: http://www.e-architect.co.uk/berlin/jpgs/olympic_velodrome_berlin_dpa260608_cwernerhuthmacher.jpg

It's minimalist and the geometry is amazing...

I was going to suggest the Aquatic Center for London 2012 by Zaha Hadid, but Gottago was fastest than me.

Anyway, I think that something lool a like the Aquatic Center for Atenas 2004 would be more consistent with the aesthetic of the Olympic Stadium that you have designed.

Here some pics:

I've had some difficulty downloading and installing your Simlympic pack from your website. There is a file with no extension with a size of 0 bytes in the zip that has the same name as the folder, I cannot delete it, and when I try to extract the files, the file conflicts with the folder, causing only the 0 byte file to be extracted. I cannot rename it either because it's in a zip. Any clue why it's there?
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase

I'm having no problem with the downloads, using the integrated Zip archive program that comes with Windows Vista, or with WinRAR. So I would gather it's your zip program giving you a hard time. Try downloading a different one.
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: 2b2gbi on January 12, 2010, 08:51:07 PM
I just unzipped about 20 other BATs after attempting this one. I using the default Vista one, why is there a O byte file, that makes no sense.
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: xxdita on January 12, 2010, 10:02:48 PM
There isn't a 0 byte file in the zip, unless your download was somehow corrupted. Try downloading the file again, then right-click on it, and select Extract All. If it asks if you want to extract the file unencrypted, choose yes.
Title: Re: Dmscopio's Bat showcase
Post by: 2b2gbi on January 13, 2010, 06:01:03 AM
I got around it, but every time i downloaded it the 0 byte file was there. (4 times) But anyways the arenas/stadiums are great, and I hope to make use of them in my cities.

2b2gbi: I have no idea why the zip file issue happen, maybe it is the Vista thing like you said. I do not have a Vista machine, and I zip the files with a mac, maybe it is caused by the compatibility of mac OS and Vista OS. Anyway, seems it does not happen to other people, i just keep the files it is right now.

Dmscopio, I think I said it before, but I'm saying it again: You are brilliant. I suppose that the update you told us in your last message is the 3D view of the stadium, because I can't see anything else instead the venues for the Simlympics.

Anyway, I have a question for you and I really hope that you can help me. I'm trying to relot some of those amazing venues, but every time that I open one of them with the LotEditor, it crashes and I can't do it. I haven't tried with the others, but I suppose that it will be the same. Even I'm not able to find them as prop neither as building... Why is that?

I really really want to relot them because I had an idea for the Olympic Park on Mosman, a good one I thing, and to make it I need to do that.

Hoping I'm posting in the right place. Just downloaded DMScopio's gorgeous Shenzhen World Trade Center. Am on Mac so I juice. I run CAM. I have 5 files and no idea which is the non-Cam file that I don't need. The file names are:

Install NHP DMS Shenzhen World Trade Center[158397]-12.dat
Install NHP DMS Shenzhen World Trade Center[180347]-15.dat
Install NHP DMS Shenzhen World Trade Center[326538]-25.dat
Install NHP DMS Shenzhen World Trade Center[356735]-29.dat
Install NHP DMS Shenzhen World Trade Center[384282]-34.dat

Is there a way for us Mac folk to identify files in such circumstances? My thanks for your help--

NCGAIO, the website http://www.simcity.cn/index.php is not the easiest to navigate (at least for this simpleton), I have not been able to find Dmscopio's work so far but, more importantly, cannot find a link to register with the site.

Hi there!

Yepp I bump this inactive thread because my saying I think is relevant for this topic. Since DMScopio's all previous private host sites or the links to his works are dead now, in the last couple of months I tried to filled the gaps, and with the support of the Simtropolis/STEX admins uploaded some of his lost or "only hidden somewhere on the simcity.cn page" uploads to the STEX UNDER DMSCOPIO'S ACCOUNT, where the rest of his upload can be found. Now recently I discovered that there were at least 3 remaining uploadings from him which was still missing.
- Boleyn Ground Stadium (I found a relotted version of this with the original model and desc and pics on a french fansite here: http://www.simland.eu/forum/grand-sud/utopia-feu-artifice-nouvel-375-t9955-4695.html#p594730 (http://www.simland.eu/forum/grand-sud/utopia-feu-artifice-nouvel-375-t9955-4695.html#p594730)), but would be nice to recover the original lot file too. (first picture)
- New-new Anfield Stadium v3 or v1 I don't know which one is this really. Definitely NOT the version which was released on the STEX (https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/16765-new-anfield-stadium-aka-stanley-park/). You can see what I'm talking about on the second pic. I have now this building, because someone managed to dig out from his plugin folder.
- University Campus pack vol. 1 - now this is the most important, because as far as I know this is totally lost. Since a couple of you downloaded it back in 2006-2007, I hope someone still have this university pack and we can bring it back to live. (third picture)

Possible original file names:
- Dmscopio_NHP_Uiversity_Campus_Pack_Vol1.zip
- NHP_DMScopio_BoleynGround.zip

Any help would be awesome, specially with the University Campus pack!
Thanks in advance!
