Neither of your tram packages will "juice" in FileJuicer. It would be nice to have a zip archive, so Mac usere can use the awesome trams.
ive been having some troubles with your tram package. i cant seem to get the blue/white amsterdam tram to work, ive also tried the orange/white berlin tram and it didnt work either. what i get is a tram that is shaped like your trams but the colours are just plain looking blocky reds, blues, yellows, and greens. i do have the folder installed after the nam folder and i have tried other tram packages that work (of course removing them when trying yours) but their quality isnt anywhere as good as yours. i would love to see your trams in my city so i hope you can help.
Well that is becauce you are running with software rendering, instead of hardware rendering.
This is due to I use larger textures than the ones that is supported with software rendering.
I might do a lower resolution of them later.
Which one of the trams would you prefer ? I could do that for you with lower resolution textures.

The file names, BSC_VDK_Tram_Shed.dat and BSC_VDK_Tram_Workshop.dat, was the name of the files before they where merged togther in the prop pack.

I have a Mac and I tried to juice the new tram file but I only get a .txt file. I saw that you have uploaded your previous tramsets in a zip file on SimCityKurier. Could you also make a zip file of the new sets? That would be great because I love the HTM and RSR trams! Thank you!

when i installed the exe in the plug ins, it showed a file name and a folder containing the images of the trams...
do i have to choose and leave one among the images? can you show me how to choose one tram mod from vdk vol3 and how to install it in the plug ins section? please

I believe the number of cars is based on the amount of commuters, just like trains. The more passengers using your tram network, the longer the tram.
looks great, but same problems with me as i am using a Mac and File juicer quits working on this one. could you send it (Tram mod vol. 3 & 4) to me per PM as well?

I have the BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod and the VDK GLR Train Mods Vol 4
Guess its the way spawning from the SFBT GLR Tram mod works.
What the VDK mod does is just replace the default el-trains.
@kirillv: As vester said, the SFBT stations are spawning custom tram automata, which "interfers" like that if you don't use the El-Rail automata blocker (BSC_SFBT_glr_light_rail_no_el-train_automata.dat) that is included in the BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod (this would block the Maxis automata, or any other tram mod that replaces the Maxis El-Rail automata). But if you want to use vester's excellent trams, simply remove the four "BSC_SFBT_glr_light_rail_automata_*.dat" files from the SFBT folder instead.

First of all, I need to say that i have recently explored this site and feel very grateful for what one can find in here.
Now to my question, I have installed the tram according to the instructions, but my problem is that there is no tram running in the city at all :(
I seem to have all depencies required too.
Is there something I have missed, or something I should think about when installing?
what could otherwise cause that no trains/trams are running in the city?

There is a few things you can do:
1. Change the graphic settings inside the game
2. Change or make changes to onehe NAM plug-ins. There is a read me in the NAM folder:
[documents]....\SimCity 4\Plugins\Network Addon Mod\Documentation.

Can't remember which file it is you need to change.
Did a little reading in the 10B.Automata_Plugin_Files.htm. It's the Automata_Plug-in files you need to change.
There 3 standard files to pick from:
"..._Standard"
"..._Automata24_..."
"..._Radical_..."
Did install "NetworkAddonMod_Automata_Plugin_Radical_Automata24.dat" myself, but I need to see some automata to be able to take pictures of the trams.
If you use the route query, do you have any trafic on the glr lines ?

I only get the standard automata plugin dat-file, it doesn't seem to be any file in my folder with this name (unless I've overlooked it).

I don't get any traffic on the glr lines at all, first I thought that it had to do with the stations, so I put some glr-stations and connected them with roads, to see if it works, but nothing passes from there :(

You could get the file from Network Addon as a zip (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=852), just remember to remove the file you already have in your folder.
Think this problem is more a nam-problem than a problem with the automata itself, therefore you should do a post in the NAM forum instead. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=90.0).

Yes, I have the same problem. I don't know how to choose only one of the tram skins to replace the elevated train. LOL
Could you please instruct me on how to do this? Whenever I install it, I try looking for choices, but none. (I only have the readme and the pictures of all the trains), and it always downloads the DART version 3 tram. If you could please instruct me on how to choose only one tram of my choice, it would be very much appreciated, thank you in advance.

The LEX. Left hand margin. Do a category search for Transportation - Rail. There are some tram stations you can download.

Can I use this model too make my own skin. I fit great for old polish "Konstal 105Na" tram. I've lerned how to reskin model from tutorials on this forum, but modeling in 3d is more difficult :)

Remove the file GLR_Tram_Set.dat from your plug-ins folder.

I installed one of the packs of traditional trams, streetcar type, which only appears in a wagon, I wonder if it is possible to show only two cars.

Playing with your excellent Japanese trains, I found a little bug:
The XCar examplar for the JNR211 points to the model 0x10DA0000, rather than 0x11DA0000. This results in red cars being miscellaneously inserted in the train, which, while hilarious, is not quite what I had in mind. :)
Fixing the tgi seems to restore the train to it's intended glory. :)

I installed VDK Train Mods Vol 5, but there is a problem. All the APTX automata cars have small images of the trains instead of wheels. The engine is fine though.

Well take a look at the files and update the file on lex.
If you can't wait, its a small job to change it.
Looks like you have the reader installed.
Open the file in the reader.
Click on the s3d file.
Then on the Anim tab.
Click on all the pluses under name column.
Then under mat block it should go from 0 to 5, just like on the other columns with block in the name.

BUT I just found out there's been an error: Milwaukee Road Passenger Car Replacement set #1 (Single level basic cars) is using textures from the Great Blue Sky set. Double checked, and it's an override, not a switch, so no Milwaukee Road for me.
BTW, thanks for using the latter livery. I always thought it looked better.

I have a query, though I'm not sure if it's to do with your trains or the game itself. Apologies if it's been asked before.
I'm using the Gautrain livery and when I add the engine car props to a lot, I need to add them the wrong way round (the front of the engine car facing the passenger carriage instead of the railway) in order for them to appear normally in-game.
Does that make any sense and if so do you know why they're doing that?
Pretty sure there nothing to do to my mods to change that.
Have use a plug-in like that, but I didn't noticed it, as it was use with my trams, which looks more or less the same at both ends.
Both Vol. 10 and 11, the passenger engines and cars, are both flagging through Norton Antivirus as having malicious software attached to them. Is there a workaround for this?
I use Avast. It does stop the programs, but only to examine it and the run it.
Not sure what you can do, but turn off the Antivirus.
Hi, I love your train sets, and I'm thrilled that you included the Santa Fe locomotives, but I'm having an issue with train set #10, the passenger train locomotives.
I've downloaded it several times and each time, I try to unzip the exe file, but it makes my antivirus go nuts. It says there's a trojan in the file and blocks it from being extracted.
I know you wouldn't do that to us and someone else must've changed it but is there something that can be done about that?
EDIT: #9's actually doing it too, but that's it.
I know that Avast flags is well, but it do a sandbox check and let it run afterwards.
Got no idea what to do to change to the files to avoid the antivirus to flag it.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do a sandbox check.

It as such not a problem with the mods, but the installer, which I don't have any other ways to do.
Maybe time to seach the net for some solution:
Please try this out:
Disconnect the machine from the internet
Try to run an exe file (what happens?)
On the system try (by the system clock) right click on the Norton icon
Click on Disable Smart Firewall
Select time duratuion to 15 minutes, and click OK
Try to run an exe file (what happens?)
Turn Smart Firewall back
Reconnect to the internet

Oh yeah, for Norton 360, Symantec acknowledges there are a very few false reports of Trojan.ADH.SMH
To get the installer out of zip, I did this:
1. Open Norton
2. Click Tasks at the top of the resulting window.
3. Click on Check Security History.
4. In the new window, select Quarantine from the dropdown menu.
5. Find the exe file on the list that matches the download.
6. Click Restore & Options
7. Click Restore & exclude this file
Then the installer was ready to run.
I was just concerned that somebody tampered with those two files.

Hey vester,i have a little trouble with your newly released passenger ferry.
When installing one replacement and a bunch of additional ferries from the optional menu,the ingame UDI icon for passenger ferries isn`t there anymore.After deleting the passenger ferry files,everything is back again and i can use the Maxis passenger ferry in UDI menu.
After installing only the replacement without additionals,the same thing happens again,no passenger ferries for me :(
I`m pretty sure it`s something i messed up but i don`t know what`s going wrong.
The entire VDK Transport Folder loads after the NAM (i even renamed it with a bunch of zzzzz) but nothing changes.

Hello,
I need some help with the u-drive-it missions using trains. Whenever I start a mission, the front carriage appears at a 90 degree angle on the tracks, and when the counter counts down and right after the mission starts, I get a mission fail. I've tried taking out the VDK files and trying without and I get the same result. I was pointed in this direction, this thread, where someone might help me. I don't know if this is a VDK error, or perhaps that I'm using the RRW or something else entirely, but I hope this doesn't really affect the usage of trains!
I have heard about problems like this.
Do you have any spawner lots ?
Not sure if I remember this right, but that might have been the cause of a problem like this earlier.
Any one else have an idea ?
Considering I have no clue what a spawner lot is, I doubt I've downloaded it and have it with simcity 4. I can look for it, I just need to know what it is first :P

The last picture helped me find the answer to you problem.
There are two types of ferries, large and small, or as I called the car ferry (CFerry) and passenger ferry (PFerry).
The mod is a passenger ferry and what you see in the picture is the car ferry.
PS: I asked emanuel to post his question here, (as state in the readme and in the Lex description,).
That is so other people can help with answers or benefit from the answers.

I really appreciate your train mods, but I have an issue with Vol 11 - Passenger Cars.
When I try to install the MN Red Replacement 1 car, it gives me the Blue one instead.
Could you please check this?
File is "VDK PR Cars Rep 1 MN Red.dat"
Edit - There also seems to be a missing "VDK PR Cars Rep 1 MN Blue.dat" file.

1 - Is it posible to make the CrossRail automata from VDK Train Mods Vol 06, Super Express Trains. from rail to Elevated Rail/GRL automata? if yes, How can I do that? I only know how to use Ilive Reader and change some IDs, but I don't know how to change the IDs for this case in Ilive Reader.
2 - I know how to re-skin automatas, and I have a re-skin for the CrossRail automata, is the HK MTR Airport Express Line skin. So my question is, Can I send the two new re-skined and modified DAT files to you and see if you can include them in one of your VDK automata packs?

There is a problem with the 2 files
VDK Proppack 4 Textures Vol A - EMD F10 Freight Engines (v1.0) and VDK Proppack 4 Textures Vol B - EMD F10 Freight Engines (v. 1.0)
When i try to extract those files i get error message that exe files are corrupted.
The 2 other files (Vol C and Vol D) expand without problem.
Hi.The installer doesn't install anything in my simcity 4 plugins file ; during the procedure, it says that the stuff will be installed in a BSC/VDK folder but there is none to be found. What am I doing wrong ?

If you are talking about proppack 4 Vol A, B, C and D, I guess you clicked on the copy all, you can read in the readme "$Deal"$
that the folder that mods is going to be copy to, is:

The files could be gone corrupt during the download. ()what()
Have download the files and runned the installer with no problem.
Had a small problem with the installer during avast running it in sandbox mode, but after the scan the installer run as it should!
Anyone else got a problem with the files ?

It seems the zip files the installers are in are somewhat strangley encoded or such, I wasn't able to extract the installer with the windows explorer in first place ("Unexpected error, could not extract blabla" error message), but when I used 7zip for extracting, it worked and then also the installers ran as supposed and installed the textures selected.

I, too, was a little confused for that it's not installing into the plugins folder and had to look twice before I recognized the slightly different path $%Grinno$% But there I found all the files.

I have had no problems on my end using windows explorer on a Windows 7 machine.
You can try 7zip if you need extract them but otherwise they should install Ok.

Hi! I downloaded and unzipped the zip files:
- VDK Proppack 3 GEvoEngine Basefile Installer RevA
- VDK_Proppack 3 GEvoEngine Textures Vol3E Installer
I'm on a Mac, so I ran the .exe files through File Juicer. Neither of these yielded .dat files - only inflated, html, and txt files (which are normally useless and get discarded). (See attached screenshot of an example.)
I deleted all of it, came back to SC4D and downloaded zips again... same process... no dat files.
I'm fairly new to this, so I feel like I must be making some obvious error, but I can't figure it out...
Can you help?
I know that Simmer2's Roundhouse (from Simtropolis - using these props) will render and work without these props, but I would love to have all the added realism/variety.

Try using 7zip, which can open NSIS installers just fine, although the folder structure inside may be a little odd. With a bit of trial and error, you should find all the .dat files pretty easily.

Good day everyone! May I ask why I only have one coach when I installed VDK's Tram Skin? But when I delete VDK's file, it goes back again to the usual Maxi's brown train with complete coaches. However, the color sucks and it would be nice to replace it with VDK's skin.
Hello, first off, sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker. Second I hope Vester is still answering this thread (but seeing it is innactive since 2017 I fear he's not) or if anybody can help, I have several doubts about his mods:
1. I downloaded VDK Trains Vol 16D GEvo Freight Engines (v1.0), and as you can see in the picture attached, there is the SE Rep (what I read this means that the ingame Steam engine, the one that looks like a circus train, will be replaced completely by the model I installed. The problem is that every now and then that Maxis default locomotive or steam engine still appears. I could ignore it, but the real problem and most annoying is that it shows like 90% of the times that a train appears. Very few times I could see the replacement I installed. Also I have the freight engine replacement which actually work very good in the game, because I haven't seen the default freight engine from maxis. I read in another post and also commented on it, and for what I know Steam locomotive cannot be fully replaced. Im not sure, hope you can help me.
2. I recently downloaded some automata replacements specifically VDK Trains Vol 19B Passenger Cars (v1.0). I installed SP Lark passenger cars, I read the ReadMe file and says there are 2 different color schemes for those cars, those files are named "A" or " B" after the "Add 1, 2 or 3" (these lasts are for showing different levels in those cars). I installed both color schems to see which one I liked the most, the problem is that I don't see any differences between those two files. I tried different combinations, e.g. I put in my Plugin folder only ADD 1 B, opened the game took a screen and then did the same with only Add 1 A. I basically did that with all files, even put some together like Add 1 A and Add 3 B but I saw no difference at all in the cars. Why I know Add 1 with Add 3 was working? because the passenger cars did show level 1 cars and level 3 cars only. I don't know if this was an error or that particular type of cars (SP Lark) was forgot to be rendered in different colors.
3. I saw in vester content from SC4Devotion that he has some proppack and textures that are not the actual replacement for the automatas, I was afraid I was not installing them so that my trains were not working properly, but I actually installed them and everything was the same. My question here, is what are those proppack and textures for? I suppose they are only that, proppacks and textures for use in various other lots, but just want to be sure they do not have to do with the actual automata replacements.
Also, the other mods present in that folder work correctly.
I want to be clear that this post is in any means a complaint of the mods that Vester did which actually add an incredible level of realism and I'm am very gratefull for what modders do, I'm only asking because maybe I'm doing something wrong that I'm not aware of. I hope someone can enlighten me :) and again sorry for my english.
