Title: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on January 22, 2007, 02:20:56 AM
I have upload the BSC Cleanitol TM tool to the LEX here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=97)

It ships with a basic cleanitol file that will move everything not needed by the game on a BSC_Cleanitol folder under your MyDoc\SimCity 4

Press the '...' button on top, and select cleanupList.txt,
Press 'locate' to find if you have unuseful files. It will also tell you if you have the building as props from maxis
Press 'Backup' to actually move the files

Everytime you press backup and if some files need to be moved they will be moved to a subfolder of MyDoc\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol. the subfolder will be named by date/number of time you press on that date
It will also generate a report.html that you can read to see what have moved, and an undo.bat is also generated just in case you want old files to be moved again into your plugins

If you have downloaded latest SimGoober texture pack, you can use this tool with the shipped cleanitol file.

Hello and thanks for another great program...I am having a little bit of trouble with the program, and I hope you can show me the error of my ways. When I run this program it seems to only scan my folder where the game is installed.. It does not seem to want to scan my plugins that I have installed under my documents on my C drive. Is there something that I am missing? What could I be doing wrong? I am making sure to select the text that came with the program, but am not getting any favorable response. Thanks for your timely consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

Kalanc69

Are you using it under XP ?
Not sure how 'My docs' is handled on Vista, so this may be the bug
Besides that , I don't see why the tool can't get the location of your 'My Docs' on your system

Wouanagaine, You made a great tool. I queried 28 MB of pics and other rubbish from my files. Thank you for making this tool.

I have 1 question and 1 remark.

Question:
With the ever continuing of updates and dependancy packs from all players around the cleanupList.txt might quickly turn outdated. Will you be updating that file?
I certainly hope you will say yes, and if you do, where will we be able to find the updated list?

Remark:
I do not understand exactly how the dependancy check works. I downloaded Simgoober's pack the other day and in SG comment he stated that BSC Cleanitol TM tool would remove the duplicate files. That it did not and I still ahd to manually remove all the duplicate files. Did I do something wrong or was the assumption SG made a bit too premature?

@Nik-Nik - From what I have understood, and this is pure guess, as I haven't seen that Simgoober's pack yet, there should be inside the pack a .txt file with all the files paths that should be found and removed. That is that file that you have to run with the Cleanitol Tool. Place that txt file on the same dir of the cleanuplist or browse the folder where it is and run it. Do that before installing the Simgoober's Pack.

AHA, that makes sense indeed!
Now wait a minute if I need to run it before installing (why?) the txt file is still in the zip file isn't it?

What Rayden said, the futurs megapacks will incorporate this kind of file. I hope to come with a quick way to run it from installer, so you even not have to run it yourself, but this is quite tweacking of the installer

However you do not need to run it before installing if not expressly told by the author

As pointed by Vab at pegasus you may try to add the following lines to the default file list
*.rtf
*.doc
thumbs.db
*.gif

I've did that already, as soon as I run the program the first time. I had also *.png but took it away as it removes the background files from the main game folder at Program Files. Png files I remove them manually now.

I mentioned removing files before installing the pack, because the other day, I have installed a pack and in the zip file there was only the install file, no readme. After installing the pack, this htm file came up and was written there to remove certain files to avoid duplicates. The problem was that the file list had the same names as the ones freshly installed. So, I ended up erasing the files I had just installed. Lucky, before removing the last one, I looked at the Date Modified and realized the mistake. I had to install the pack again. ;)

Well, I'm not blind, so I must be a moron, which is probably an easier problem to solve. I installed Cleanitol and launched it after installing from the install menu. Closed it and now I can't find it. Can someone please tell me how to launch it and/or here to find it? (I didn't see it in the plug-in folder and there's no desktop icon)

Thank you. I know the answer is probably really obvious, but I can't see it.

Start Menu->Program Files->SC4 utilities -> Cleanitol

or on your HD, it is under Program Files\BSC Cleanitol

Take care !

I bet that if you used the default folder tree while installing the program will be installed to your "program files" folder and named cleanitol or BSC_cleanitol ... of coruse you could also let windows do a search on your computer for cleanitol ... a third one is to open up the installer againa nd see whta the default installation tree is ...

these were just some suggestions ... good luck.

EDIT: there you have it ... while typing Wouna gave the correct answer ...

damn, i had 2331 unuseful files.

->kalanc69
have you compressed the files in the plugins folder?

I had the same problem as you, but i removed the compressed folder and put in the original folders again and now it detected a total of 2331 unuseful files, so this might be the problem.

You seem to be missing some dependancies

Where do I download the missing dependencies to?

I've downloaded the BSC Megapack cleanitol. It's works perfect, but on the results, one of the links to a dependency was wrong. See the pic bellow:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg181.imageshack.us%2Fimg181%2F6343%2Fcapture06022007142850uu4.jpg&hash=2c9140e4763b0fc1aee15e363a79fda690122c1a)

The message is related to BCSProps D66 Vol8, and the link is pointing to Vol7.

The right link is this: http://www.simpeg.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=430

Glad everything works :)
I'm always a bit stressed when I upload a new version of the list

BTW : It seems that you'll need to rerun the BSC_Essentials installer after using cleanitol. There are a couple of files that are actually update of old ones that came with other download. Until we find a good way to manage/merge them, it is recommended to rerun the installer. sorry for the inconvenience

OK, so I hope this isn't a dumb question but I just want to clarify something... Does the program automatically detect if my plugins are missing needed dependancies? Because the list of missing files shown after running the program contains many dependancies that I thought I'd downloadad before but they are now consolidated in various Mega packs so I'm not sure if those would be duplicated if I re-downloaded them.

I just downloaded and tried the tool, but as soon as I click on the exe file a window comes up telling me this:

«see the logfile'C:/Program Files/BSCCleanitol/BSCCleanitol.exe.log' for details»

then I went into the Programfiles/BSCCleanitol folder and looked at that file mentioned above and this one said:

So I decided to uninstall it and redownload it again, by thinking maybe it was a download error, but it comes up evertime.
So, what is goi on or what am I doing wrong......

Help would be appreciated because that tool sounds great. I have windows XP btw and the tool is downloaded into the recommended folder under programfiles/BSCCleanitol.

DocWright => sorry I have not seen your post sooner
The tool does not automatically detect dependencies, it only scan your plugins folder to see if you have outdated/latest files

mrbisonm
Try download gdiplus.dll and mscvp71.dll if you have not them in your system ( put them on your c:\windows\system32 folder, so other tool I made will works )

Hello. First of all thank you for this tool; I started playing again after a long time away, and now I am in the boring process of reinstalling all those dependancies... and so I am sure will have a lot of duplicates. It will be really invaluable.
But I have a question. Will the cleanitol find my plugins folder even if they are not in the usual place? I have the SC4 game installed on disk D:, and the my documents\simcity4\plugins folder is on G: After installing the tool [on C:, didn't give me choice] I launched it, and actually gave me as a result 1 missing dependancy, so it looks like it found the folder on his own... but wanted to ask just to make sure, because it looks like a miracle that the poor thing found his way in the right folder without any input].
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Thank you very much for the reply! Actually yes, it IS scary... surely cleanitol is more clever than me lol
Really, congratulations for making such a tool.
What is precisely that makes him find his target in such a jungle of disks and folders? obviously it is not the name of the folder, or the path. I am really curious about this.

When you install SC4, it will set some registery keys which contains the path to your simcity files, So the tool just look into thoses registery keys to know where to scan
And the plugins folder is always under MyDocs\Simcity4\Plugins

Hi schulmanator
Just run cleanitol and use the '...' button to browse to the file provided with the megapack
then hit 'locate' and 'backup'

wouanagaine I am sorry to bother you again, but cleanitol is having a problem.
When I click locate files, it starts searching, then gives me error. Just to see what happens I click backup now, and a window opens and says this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSCBackup.py", line 512, in OnStart
File "BSCBackup.py", line 229, in process
File "glob.pyo", line 24, in glob

File "fnmatch.pyo", line 47, in filter
File "sre.pyo", line 180, in compile
File "sre.pyo", line 227, in _compile
sre_constants.error: bad character range

Maybe you know what that means? I reinstalled it twice, just to be sure. But still gives this error.
Thank you for your patience.

First I was using cleanitol BSC Mega Packs because that's the one  I wanted. When I saw it wasn't working I tried the one located in cleanitol's folder, cleanupList, to see if maybe it was the list causing the problem. but the error happens with both.

pixxa can you tell me what is the full path to your My Documents\Simcity4\plugins ( starting from C: )
and can you tell me the path where you installed SC4 and if you have 'installed' it or 'copied' ?
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: pixxa on February 23, 2007, 05:59:36 PM
the plugins are in: G:\SimCity 4\Plugins
the program is in: D:\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe. It was properly installed, not copied. Same thing with the plugins folder.
G: is set as My Documents "folder", so when I installed SimCity, the plugins folder was automatically created in G: by the game itself.
Since Cleanitol was working when I first installed it [when I first posted in this forum], and no path changed in the meantime, I guess something else is bothering him. I found out that it actually starts to move the files, but then it stops. So I could eventually have the job done starting and restarting it until it moves all the files, but I don't think forcing it this way can be good.
Few hours ago I cleaned manually the plugin folder, then launched Cleanitol again thinking that maybe some filename was too long, or too many files to move, but still gives same error.

pixxa Can you just check the tool has correctly created a folder g:\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol ?
with some subfolders in it

I really do not have any ideas what can cause the tool to stop. Sorry

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

Yes, it created his folder in G:\SimCity 4\Plugins, with the subfolders too.
Obviously this is a problem only I am having with Cleanitol. I am really tempted to uninstall simcity completely and reinstall it, and see if this would solve the problem.
Thank you for taking the time to look into this anyway.

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: emilin on February 26, 2007, 01:48:35 PM
Hmmm... I seriously have no idea if this is a problem caused by Cleanitol or something else, but if you have any idea if this could be related to something I did with your tool I'd be very grateful.

I ran C once before and it worked fine. Today I installed some more stuff (only stuff from the LEX) and ran it again. However I probably chose the wrong location file. I think that I selected the ".result"-file because it took about ten times longer to run C untill it was finished. I thought "Well, that was silly of me, but probably no biggy..." and chose "backup now" which also took a terrible amount of time, and halfway through it crashed. After that I redid the whole process with the correct location file, and it worked fine.

When I looked at the folder created from the time I ran it the wrong way it contained a number of strange .dat files that I'm not sure where they belong. I put them back into the plugins folder in a separate folder.

To make things even more confusing: after this I ran the DAT-packer and it worked just fine. I don't think this has anything to do with anything, but I thought it would be best to tell you.

Now I finally started the game up, and everything looked fine EXCEPT that the diagonal pieces of the Trolca dirt roads are asphalt??? I checked the Trolca folders and they look fine.

If this was the only trouble I would just reinstall the dirtroads again, but I'm afraid that I might have corrupted something more serious, so any input before I move on would be much appriciated.

Thank you!
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on February 26, 2007, 01:57:00 PM
emilin

Did the trolca roads don't display after datpacker or with your normal plugins folder ?
It was not very clever to hit 'backup' with a bad files. 50-50. I should have take care of non cleanitol files.
However in the backuped folder you should have an undo.bat that you can run to put the files back. ( in that particular case you should edit it before running it to see if it looks like correct ) or PM it to me so I can tell you if it looks safe to run it.( note the useage of word 'look' )

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: emilin on February 26, 2007, 02:56:33 PM
After closer inspection it turns out the DATpacker was the problem. Apparantly my transit folder wasn't structured properly, and for some reason that became a problem when the folders were compressed.

The roads are back, but I still want to make sure I didn't corrupt something else. I PM the undo.bat to you, and if you take a look before I run it I would appriciate it very much.

You seem to be up to date with needed dependancies

After I changed the name of the folder, I ran the tool again and it didn't give me any error anymore. Renamed again, the error came back. It seems Cleanitol doesn't like the [ELEM-HI], because I tried many name combinations and that is the only one that makes the error come back.

hello! i need help. again. im new to the plugging in of things into sc4. and since CLEANITOL is the tool that can help solve my problem, i decided to post here. iv been downloading like crazy a few weeks back and had to stop because of so many dependancies. my question is. for bsc, are the filenames like for example::: BSC_BAT_PROPS_maker_volx    already obsolete? i just download the megaprop pack of "maker" and all is good?
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on March 01, 2007, 12:02:18 AM
Thx petercintn

zniehadajet, most of BSC_BAT_PROPS_maker_volx  have been merged. On the LEX you have the Dependency help http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_depend00.html
With that you have almost everything
After downloading thoses, try running cleanitol with this file http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=190

Take care

pardon the double post. seems like there have been no problems or suggestions since march 4.

anyway, i think there may be something wrong with the newest cleanitol mega packs file.
in the list, more specifically in the files to be cleared, there is a double referrence to BSC MEGA PROPS - D66 Vol01.
i believe the second one is supposed to point to BSC MEGA PROPS D66 Vol02.  ?? ()what()

also, mainly as a suggestion or question for that matter:
since CLEANITOL TM is one that helps with dependencies and all,
may i ask if any of these files should make it to this said CLEANITOL MEGA PACKS file?
CSX BAT PROPS 2006e
CSX BAT PROPS 2007a
BSC JES TEXTURE V1
BSC BAT PROPS MJB V9
JMYERS PROPS V1 and V2
T1 PROPS V1
VDK TEXTURES V1 and V2
VDK BAT PROPS V1
MEGA PROPS CAL V1

A great program, indeed.

It found out that I had so many missing dependencies (I never noticed nor needed them, lol) - in terms of mega packs, but I still had my original versions.

Oh, and a suggestion regarding the Cleanitol text files. As soon as you download a fresh new text file with Cleanitol information, put it straight into a subfolder within the main program files of the Cleanitol directory (so it goes BSCCleanitol > Cleanitol Text Files). That way, you a) keep them just in case you need to do it again, b) it saves you from having to navigate elsewhere, since the default starting point is the BSCCleanitol directory.

Hi all,
maybe is a dumb question, every megapack come with its cleanitool file, and having downloaded a lot of them I've a lot of cleanitool files: what I wanted to know was that it is safe merge alle the cleanitool files in one file, or if there was a way to tell cleanitool do perform a clean using all these files

thanks

Hi luca

you can merge the files without any problems, just use notepad or anything better :)

however if you merge
file A which declare dependency Depend1.dat
with
file B which declare Depend1 as obsolete, you will have undefined behavior

so merging is not just a copy/paste operation

I have uploaded a new version ( 2.1 ) on the LEX

You can now have the cleanitol in English, French or German. Just rename the correct language.lang into current.lang

it is.

Are these the two files needed for the .dat packer too?

... and how/where would they need to be installed?  I have both files, but I'm just not sure where to put them or how to install them to the right location if it isn't a simple click and drop installation from where they are on my desktop presently...

Thanks in advance for your help!
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on April 21, 2007, 04:33:41 AM
yes they are needed
the best location is to place them under c:/windows/system32 which is normally availabe on your PATH environment variable

I have now a Vista PC and both work fine ( cleanitol and datpacker ). However the Vista I have come installed, and I haven't to download those files, they are already isntalled. Maybe not the case in your installation

Ah.... I haven't even tried using either application yet, so I'm not sure if they work or not.  They very well may have them.

I'll have to do a bit more investigation with it.  RLS has hit me very hard of late, so when I get more of a chance to do some digging instead of just sticking my head here, then I'll know!

so i located the files, and when i backuped them, then i got an error:

looks like there is either a filename in the NAM list with some non 7bit character ( french accent, umlaut etc.. ) or that your path to My Documents contains such characters
I thought I have fixed that with the latest version, Is it with that latest version of cleanitol ?
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

If that's the reason, it's probably the "NetworkAddonMod_Translation_Plugin_française.dat" line. Does the problem still exist with the latest version of BSC Cleanitol?

I hope this isn't a repeat comment.

I just downloaded this program but haven't used it yet - I just wanted to friendlily suggest (unless there is a tech reason it has to be this way) that the installation directory page of the installer gives the normal "..." browse button, but it's greyed out, so one cannot select the installation directory (as one usually can for BSC installers). Again, not sure if this was intentional because BSCCleanitol is coded with the set installation directory or anything, but if it's possible in a future release, that would be nice, as I prefer to keep my SimCity files in a certain location other than c:\program files :)

Thanks all.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: Andreas on June 10, 2007, 05:09:42 AM
This is intentional. BSC Cleanitol has to be installed in this folder, otherwise, the "undo.bat" files won't work properly. I guess you can move the installed files to another folder, but you won't be able to double-click the "undo.bat" that reverts your changes to the plugins folder anymore.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on June 10, 2007, 09:44:55 AM
To add from Andreas post, it is intentionnal because we may come to a solution that other products installers ( and it is not limited to BSC installers ) can launch the cleanitol with their included list when installing. But this requires the tool to be in a specific known folder.

Hi Wouanagaine  :)

Thank you for sharing your great tool "BSC Cleanitol TM"  ;)
I have a basicaly question about working it.
(I'm sorry that I ask such a question now $%Grinno$%)

What folder does this tool scan?
Is this only "My Document/SimCity 4/ Plugins/" ??
How about sub-folders under "Plugins/" ??
and Can it scan into "C:Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins/" too ??

I already have lot of "Dependenceis (Prop-Pack, Texture-Pack)" and I had worked this tool with "RemoveList*****".
I made the environment where a file repeated intentionally and tested it.
However, all of result is "Missing...." &mmm

Of course, I using "Windows-XP" now.(home edition - SP2)

Can you understand my no good English? :-[
Do you have any idea about it??

Thank you for reading Wouanagain  ;)

Very good english ( at least from my french point of view :) ), MAS-san

The tool scans:
C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins/ and all subfolders
and My Document/SimCity 4/ Plugins/ and all subfolders

However I must confess that I'm not sure how it handles folders with japaneses characters in the name.
What is the full path to 'My Documents' on your HD ? Mine is c:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Mes Documents
If it contains japaneses characters, that may be the problem.

Hope it makes sense to you
Take care

Thank you for your polite answer quickly Wouanagaine san!! ;)

At first, I thought that Japanese influenced about it mee too.
but, I don't use japanese characters to my accout in my PC :)

My full path is
C:/Documents and Settings/MasCri2006/My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins/
and
C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Plugins/

hummm.
I'll try it more little in various states.
If I would know something, I'll report about then again ;)

Thank you again Wouanagaine san!!

This is one awesome tool wouanagaine, thanks for making it :) It just cleared up my large headache with trying to figure out which dependencies I was missing for the 10 or so buildings I installed.

I have a question though, I still get these showing up as missing:

MISSING : SmalltownUSA - Collector's Edition.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=642
MISSING : BSC MEGA Props - JENX Vol02.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=629
MISSING : BSC MEGA Props - DAE Vol01.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=475
MISSING : CSX MEGA Props - Vol03.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=461
MISSING : BSC Mega Props - JES Vol01.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=342
MISSING : BSCTexturePack JES Vol02.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=341

I have downloaded all of those files (except the last one since it's locked and I haven't found the newer one yet) and installed them, but they still show up as missing with the cleanitol and in-game I have some missing props. I take it I am doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what since those all come with installers.

Can you guys please point me in the right direction?

Thanks  :)

Hi Wouanagaine san !!  :)

May I questiong about a Langage data ?
Now, I try to make a "japan.lang" for Japanese users. ;)

For Japanese, We need to use character are "EUC-JP" , "UTF-8"  or  "SHIFT-JIS".
but "EUC-JP" and "UTF-8" could not use for default your tool.
(Cleanitol was not work correctry.  and It was finished forcibly. :-[)

and
When I used only "SHIFT-JIS", the conversion of the letter succeeded.
However, the next error message was displayed when I was BACKUP it, did not work it  normally. &mmm
Furthermore, "####_result.html" and "undo.bat" are made for the time being at MyDocuments/SimCity 4/Plugins/ , but all of them are empty data.

Quote from: Error MessageTraceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 489, in OnStart

File "encodings\iso8859_15.pyo", line 18, in encode
UnicodeEncodeError: 'charmap' codec can't encode characters in position 0-6: character maps to <undefined>

I think whether this cause lacks language data to be non-correspondence. :-[

I don't know well about system program.
Do you have any advice for me Wouanagaine san ?? ()what()

Thank you  for reading !! :)

Here's hoping I am in the right thread.  I recently got a new computer and I have been re-loading everything.  Tonight I tried to re-install the Cleanitol (by the way, LOVE IT) but I have a non-C drive installation on my Sim City 4 and the cleanitol will not allow me to change the installation path.  I tried loading to C: drive and moving to the SC4 drive but that wont work either.  Any ideas?  I am quite sure that now that I have experienced life with Cleanitol, that I just cannot live without it!

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: Andreas on August 01, 2007, 02:46:09 AM
Cleanitol has to be placed into the "Program Files" path of your current Windows installation (and this is C:\... in almost any cases). It doesn't matter where you installed SimCity, but the *.bat files that allow you to restore your original plugins folder only work if they "know" where Cleanitol is installed. If you happen to have your Windows installation on D:\ or somewhere else, I guess it should be possible to move the Cleanitol folder to that drive (by keeping the rest of the path, though) after the installation.

Okay, so I am still not able to load Cleanitol. I have windows installed on my C:/ drive (which is partitioned with only the operating system and other system specific files) and SC4 is on my E:/ drive (yeah, not conventional but stuff happens)  Cleanitol auto installs to the C:/ drive (according to Andreas, this is where it needs to be, regardless of where my SC4 is installed), but when I try to launch I get an error and the error log give this info:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 2, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "wx\__init__.pyo", line 45, in ?

  File "wx\_core.pyo", line 4, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 98, in load_module
ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading wx\_core_.pyd

As I am basically computer illiterate, I have no clue what this is telling me!  Please help, I really like this program and it has saved me many gray hairs!

The best report you could get by Cleanitol is one that says:

- "not found" after each file that should be removed and
- "You seem to be up to date with needed dependancies"

That means no files need to be removed and no dependencies are missing (for this particular Cleanitol TXT file) ;)

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: Rayden on August 02, 2007, 01:39:07 PM
I thought you said it wouldn't run, looks like it's not the case. Look at this picture bellow;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg181.imageshack.us%2Fimg181%2F6343%2Fcapture06022007142850uu4.jpg&hash=2c9140e4763b0fc1aee15e363a79fda690122c1a)

1-Top of the image, to the right you have that little button with 3 dots. If you press it, it will show you a folder where the famous cleanitol lists are stored. Some of our (BSC) lots/packs have a cleanitol file with a list that you should copy it to this folder. It's that list you should choose then from the folder.
2- Down the image you will find the "Locate files" button. If you press it it will scroll/browse your plugins folder looking for the links on those list's content. When it finishes, it will show you a small summary with a message that you're up to date with needed dependencies, or, a message like the one on the picture, "You seems to be missing some dependencies", and with a convinient link to the missing dependency.
3- If you're missing any dependency, click the link to download it.
4- Scroll up and dowm that summary, and if there is any line there with a plugin name and in front it says found, it means that you have a dependency that you sould remove, or because it's obsolete, or because it is on the pack/plugin that you are installing (from where you copy that claenitol txt file to the lists folder). In that case, you should press then, the "Backup now" button, which it will remove those old plugins found to a folder that will be stored on your "\Users\Silvio\Documents\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol". Inside that folder you'll find a folder named after the date which you used the Cleanitol Program. That folder will have all the plugins removed by Cleanitol, just in case you made a mistake, so, you can find and restore them, either manually or using the bat file created for that task and that is called undo and it's inside of that same folder.

Note: If the program doesn't find any old dependency and says you're up to needed ones, you don't have to do anything, just quit it.

I hope you can understand all this, just read it carefully and you will manage to work with it.

Actually you don't need to keep them, once you've run the Cleanitol with them and seen that you're up-to-date.
And if you'd ever need to rerun a Cleanitol check for a particular download, you'd still have the TXT file inside the ZIP archive (which I suppose you are saving).

I'm having the same problem as "imaplaybaby" when I try to open Cleanitol.  This is the error from the log:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 2, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "wx\__init__.pyo", line 45, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "wx\_core.pyo", line 4, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 98, in load_module
ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading wx\_core_.pyd

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Such an error (ie ImportError : MemoryLoadLibrary ... ) indicates that you're probably missing one of required dll which are indicated in the readme

Ok, so I have fixed my computer issue (I now have everything partitioned and loaded correctly), cleanitol and sc4 are loaded on my c drive, but I am still getting the same error.  I checked for a readme file for the cleanitol and I can't find one. Did it come with the download or is it in another location?  Shouldn't the dll have come with the download?  Sorry to be such a pia, but I really want to get this operating correctly.  I dont want to get booted for excessive downloading (I am up to nine times with the cleanitol).  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same error as some people above:

Traceback (most recent call last):

  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "wx\__init__.pyo", line 45, in ?

  File "wx\_core.pyo", line 4, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 98, in load_module
ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading wx\_core_.pyd

I also can't find a readme in the zip file, the install directory or on the LEX. So I have no idea what DLL I should be missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a note to reply to the comment about Cleanitol having to be installed to a specific hard drive/folder location.

I am a programmer, and this is utter nonsense. The author already stated in an earlier post that Cleanitol can find the SC4 installation folder by querying the registry and reading the information fom there. This is the correct way to handle installation, by writing a custom registry entry with the information so it is available to all programs that might need this information, *not* hard-coding values that will vary from user's computer to computer.

The old fears pre-Win2000 about registry bloat and the problems of it growing past a certain size have now been proved to be false with all recent MS OSes and there should be no fear of using the registry correctly to provide critical global information like this. This is not a criticism of the program's function or its author, but this "feature" of the UI lets it down and makes it harder for those of us with non-standard Windows installations to install where we *need* the files to go.

If the issue is merely to assist the running of undo batch files by hard-coding the location into those, then that's a short-sighted implementation which would be better served by having an undo function in the program itself which ran from text scripts. Batch files are extremely old technology and while powerful are dangerous and even more user-unfriendly, so I'm astonished at this solution. An undo script file in text could also be easily used by someone manually in the worst case, allowing the best of all worlds.

Do I need to say again that this is not a criticism of the author? Just feedback from someone who also writes software and understands how these things should be done in a more modern way...

My complaint is a very small one, BUT (haha.. u knew that was coming, eh?)

I use the program fairly often and it works great (as long as the author has provided a txt file of course.. hehe  :'( )..

What I'd like is either a trick or a "shortcut property modification" that would allow me to put a default directory into the (...) window.. I normally unpack my zips to a "working directory" and it is a pain in the tush to have to redirect the (...) window every time.. I'd like it to open to my working directory instead..

Odd...  %confuso I've checked the obvious locations and can't seem to find a read me for either Cleanitol or DatPacker. I would have expected them to be in the Program Files/BSCCleanitol folder, or perhaps the Documents/LEX Downloads/BSC folder... but nothing. A quick check of the zips for both programs show that they weren't packaged outside of the installer in the zip.

Ha, RippleJet already said that.

Is there a way to right click on a text file and have it open with Cleanitol? I keep getting errors when I try.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 17, in ?
  File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 82, in load_module
  File "translation.pyo", line 3, in ?
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'current.lang'

Oherwise, it works without a hitch, even for me. I just have to know where the Cleanitol txt file installed itself to, but I try to keep all cleanitol txts in a subfolder in the Cleanitol folder, so that I don't have to go searching.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

Normally any Cleanitol file would not be installed but loose in the zip for you to use prior to using the installer.

OOPS sorry, RL bad mood

So just use the '...' button to browse to any supplied cleanitol text file and then click either on locate or backup ( locate will only tell you if you're uptodate or not )

xxdita, I suppose you have use the explorer option to add a rightclick command ? then you should specified that the cleanitol exe should start in its folder

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: xxdita on November 20, 2007, 07:45:01 PM
Wou, that's the way it's set, but still not working for me. Maybe it's not opening the lang file when I try to Open With, instead of just starting the program then opening the file from within. It's not a big issue, as I said, I keep all my cleanitol txts in a subfolder within the program folder, so they are easy to find. All I have to do is Sort by date modified, and even in my blondest moments, I know which file I need to check.

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

I have uncovered a minor bug.. I was organizing files while using Cleanitol. I put the cleanitol file in the load window and ran the trace and got back a couple of things that needed to be removed. All this is very normal of course.. :) While I was looking for  and organizing things, I moved the original cleanitol file to another directory. When I then told cleanitol to "Backup Now", it ran but then hung with the "action box" window showing and no action possible.

Of course I don't think this should be a problem.. After all I should not be moving files HEHE

HOWEVER.. the "hang" was permanent.. no error message and no timeout. Probably after a time, the program should timeout and reset or close with "file not found" or whatever error is proper.

Another thing for your "next release" list.. :)

Have a good day! And thanks for your SC4 works..

Title: HOT TIP of the day.. :)
Post by: SC4BOY on November 29, 2007, 06:41:30 AM
I've mentioned this somewhere before, but it always annoys me to have to find a cleanitol file, open cleanitol, use the (...) window to navigate through my HD to the file to be opened, then open the file and run cleanitol "find files" button.

I tried the "open with" and the "send to" options and could not make either one work, but here is a trick that DOES WORK! :)

Make a shortcut for cleanitol on your desktop (or in a convenient folder on your desktop). As you are working on your file updates and run into a cleanitol.txt file, do this. Just drag and drop the file on the desktop shortcut that you made *POOF* there is cleanitol with your file in the (...) window.. just hit "find files".. YAY

&apls  :-\  &apls

Makes me a happy camper... hope you like it too.. might add this as a note to the bottom of the cleanitol doc's file until Wou gets around to making it possible to make the (...) open in a folder that you can set in the shortcut or whatever.  This is elementary, but some may not have thought of it.

ENJOY!

Post by: DFire870 on November 29, 2007, 06:46:42 AM
Interesting find! I'll have to try that sometime. What you could also do is in the folder that the (...) button goes to, make a new folder that says "Cleanitol Files" or something, and put all of the Cleanitol lists in there, so you don't have to spend so much time navigating. ;)

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

Moving the files would be about the same amount of work.. you'd have to drag and drop or you'd have to keep the folder open on the desktop or you'd have to navigate the "unzip to".. I just unpack (if needed) in the folder where I dl the file and execute the cleanitol check and install from that same folder.. I have low tolerance for repetitive work.. hehe .. and to work like you suggest your working folder would have to be the Program Files/BSCCLeanitolTM folder.. and I don't like working in a program install directory.

The method in Reply #145 is far and away the best method for me.. your milage may vary .. :)

The only NEGATIVE is that it ALWAYS opens a new instance of cleanitol, so you have to close it after each find and scrub operation.. just an "X" to me.. hehe (Sadly the running program won't accept a "drag and drop")

I ran the Meritorni cleanitol file and it indeed has one typo in it: BSC Essentials.dat should be BSC_Essentials.dat

Everything else in the cleanitol file seems correct. If cleanitol says you are missing 2 files, then I'm pretty sure that you are missing one dependency

I will msg prepo about the typo.

I ran the file, only found one bug...but you seem not to believe it. Very well, good luck with it then....

capo, I dont think there is rudeness in that post, and there is no rudeness from your part when you try to help without understanding the real need. Everything is a language misunderstanding. The typo is over thanks to Barby and that is the important thing.
All the posts related to this misunderstanding are being removed to keep the thread clean. If someone needs more explanations about this, feel free to post me. Thank you.

Uh just a quick suggestion for an update (even though it is an amazingly awesome tool as it is), how about associating a special file extention with cleanitol.exe (for example .sc4cleanup) ? as then you could just double click on the file (that's been written as a .txt file) and it opens cleanitol and scans your plugins... it could even theoretically have its own icon  :o  ;D

BTW it is currently an amazing program, just wish some creators wouldn't be as obscure (eg cleanitol.txt ???) so we can just unpack all to one folder and go through methodically :)

That's a great idea indeed - much more convenient and intuitive than manually open any "obscure" Cleanitol files. :)

you can specify any file, the extension is not really important for Cleanitol, now it is just authors work to rename the txt into something more specific

The only thing to be done from my side is the "running from the correct folder"
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: JoeST on December 10, 2007, 11:38:47 AM
I dont get what you mean there wou, if you mean we can open any old file then ok, but what about double click and open types? yeah i think i just realised what you mean, just right click on the filetype and "open with" > "select program" > "cleanitol"

EDIT: sorry, seems that the exe cant open files directly, is this what you mean when you said "correct folder" ? it comes up with this error whenever you try and open a file directly << from outside the cleanitol program files folder, I get you now... sorry for not understanding before LOL

I used a filetype .sc4cleanup, and made it open with bsc cleanitol tm.exe this works fine, would be nice if it  auto scanned.

I would suggest that the best place for the cleanitol files to be installed to would be the BSC_Cleanitol file in the mydocs file? makes a change LOL no other reason

What do you mean "from the correct folder"? doesnt it just open the txt file and then scan through the mydocs plugin folder? sorry if im wrong

Joe

To get it you need a SC4D LEX account which you can create here (http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_userreg.php).
Then follow this (http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotDOWNLOAD=97) link to directly download the files.

What is the difference between BSC Essentials Dat and BSC Essentials OG?.

You should have BSC Essentials, BB, as without it you can't see many of the BSC lot queries. The BSC Essentials OG is an old file and you should delete it when you install BSC Essentials (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=443)

There seems to be an endless loop formed if you try to meet the requirements of Cleanitol Mega Pack SG.txt.

The initial state of my system is a clean bill of health from BSC Megapak V2 (and also the Mega Pack Common and Mega Pack NAM)

If I run the SG pack, it says I need SG Farm Fields Revised  (http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=955) Ok, I download and run that. Afterward, if I run the packs above, they remove some files. After I "backup" via cleanitol on those and run the SG file again, it again says I am missing the same file.

There is probably just some revision level or typo error I expect, but I don't have the knowledge or expertise to say what is right and what is wrong.

Anyone able to sort through this and let me know what I really need to do?

Thanks

edit: All of the above files are contained in Cleanitol Master Files.zip which I just downloaded fresh (in order to be sure that I just didn't have an old file) so they should be all the latest available.

You can Cntrl-Alt-Del cleanitol and "end task".. it will cause no damage. Cleanitol has some minor problems in determining certain timeout conditions. All file will be recoverable, though you may have to do some hand file moving. I've stopped it before (though I've never had it run for 5 hours.. hehe) Wou (the author) can help you more when he gets on line. The only time I had this problem was when I moved a file while it was working and it could not locate the file to write the result.. just stop it I'd say.  If you absolutely cannot take a risk, just let it run until Wou can answer you (or someone more expert than I am)

There is an undo.bat in the backup folder that will put your files back ( edit it to see if it looks ok as you CTRL-ALT-DEL, it may be corrupted )

QuoteAnd now,the cleanitol is working in a file,called "cleanuplist_result_result".
however it looks like you did not use a valid cleanitol file but the result of a cleanitol file. "result" is added to the filename for a log file, so 2x "result' means you used "cleanuplist_result.txt" as input instead of "cleanuplist.txt"

Hi,

Great tool, save so much work, thank you.

Does the issue with auto install to a default location still exist? Like many others the only thing that gets near my C: drive is the XP operating system. My Documents, Documents and Settings folders etc are all relegated to other drives, as is all my software - they are spread out over 3 other drives. Knowing I was going to do a system install at xmas time I installed BSC Cleanitol to C: drive and gave it a run, which is how I know it works a treat.

Now that I have a fresh operating system it is time to install BSC Cleanitol again and this is the reason I ask about the default install location. I've read the posts in relation to this issue and with an undated BSC Cleanitol available I was hoping there had been a solution offered. If I install BSC Cleanitol to C: and then move the entire directory to another drive, as I did last time, everything still works correctly, including undoing the backup files which put paid to the explanation that it has to be C: drive else it won't work.

Is there a non-auto-installer zip that can be downloaded, thus eliminating the install location issue? Simply installing and then moving it is not very practical or efficient for keeping an optimised and very secure operating system. There are registry entries, add/remove programs and default path entries, boot files, HIPS configurations and OS user privileges that have to be dealt with when doing this.

Once again, thank you for the time and effort that went into creating this wonderful tool.

Cheers,
Paris

Frankly you can move the folder without any trouble

The reason behind the default install location was to be able to access it from .bat files that can be run from installers. An option finally not done by authors.

I am not sure this properly belongs in the CLEANITOL forum or elsewhere so feel free to move it if this is the wrong place?

Hmm.. I have a problem. I don't know if it is a "missing dependency" problem or a cleanitol problem. I ran cleanitol and it removed the files listed at the bottom of the page.

I attach the list here, as I don't know a way to find out which "remove file list" for cleanitol produced the "archive file" function which moved those files (maybe an "next release item"  .. though I am not sure it would be useful. Most people who include a cleanitol file DO NOT name it in such a way that you could trace it back to the actual download anyways).

I am GUESSING based on the files listed, that it was files moved by the cleanitol for BSC_essentials but I don't really know. Anyway, the issue is that when I get the lot Kensington Manor Bldg C$$$ 100 (Kensington BATS) growing in my city, I get a missing dependency (bldg model?) as shown by this picture:

Missing dependency?.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg186.imageshack.us%2Fimg186%2F3539%2Fkensingtonbrownboxuo8.jpg&hash=42c80edf5ebabe23e42dcf27f8b174c13c7a11d6)

When I go back to the docs for the Kensington Manor, the only dependency for the lot listed it the SPA_Essentials file shown in red below. So I conclude that either the file which moved that file is not truly a replacement OR that the original docs did not in fact include all the dependencies needed.

EDIT: Ok, I placed the SPA ESSENTIALS lot back in the folder and the missing dependency went away.. so this means that the download who's cleanitol removed it does not in fact cover the dependency for it. For this reason this may more properly belong in the BSC Dependency HELP messages. Oh, and I looked up the BSC SPA Essentials.dat file on the DEPENDENCY LIST by Diggis, and it does not show a replacement for the file.. so something goofy is going here, but I'm not sure what. It would seem that if a file is REMOVING the file, IT should be listed as the NEW DEPENDENCY for the lot (ie it should be cross-referenced in Diggis' list)

Sorry for the L O N G message, but it was my best shot at the moment.

In Windows, you can Search through all of your documents to find if a Cleanitol has done this. Simply open the Search window, set your Search Tools/ Search Options to Always Search File Names AND Content, click on the Documents tab, then point the Directory Path to where you store your Cleanitols. But checking the BSC Spa Essentials in Reader, only UI and png files are included, so that's not the problem. Is this a new problem with a lot you've used, or a new lot creating a new problem? Whatever the case, you're missing the building model itself. If it came in an installer, I'd suggest re-installing. If it was a zip file, it's possible you missed copying the model over, or that it was never there to begin with.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: BarbyW on January 04, 2008, 01:22:19 AM
As xxdita pointed out the Spa Essentials only holds information on queries so replacing that would not solve the missing model. In fact spa posted a Cleanitol file to help with his updates but it should be used ONCE and before installing the updates.
As spa posts his models with each upload rather than in packs it appears as though you have removed the model file and then replaced it if the building has returned but it is certainly nothing to do with the Essentials file.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: SC4BOY on January 04, 2008, 03:33:38 AM
Umm... good point.. in fact after i wrote that (just now in fact) I had taken it back out and gone back in to look at the lot. I couldn't find it.. I have to conclude that I had allowed the emulator to run for a bit and that during that time the lot had "grown" to a next stage. I could not find the lot.. So I guess I have to say that I cannot any longer confirm what the missing prop is. It certainly would appear from the picture plus the picture in the doc's of the "correct" lot that the building model is what is not there.

Are you saying that there WERE more dependencies and that I ran some cleanitol that removed them? I'm afraid I don't understand why the lot would have a missing model? There was no lot listed as a dependency. Am I misunderstanding you?

XX.. I DID do the search.. of course I did not know (and still don't know) what I was looking for. I searched on "essential" since that was the only listed dependency. Are you saying that another cleanitol has removed a model or some such? I also searched on "Kensington" and found nothing moved. If it is there it doesn't have that in the name. As I pointed out, it is not possible to tell WHAT moved the file. I KNOW it was cleanitol as I keep all the moved and .bat files isolated for all my cleanitol moved under their original folder names (which of course is just a date reference)

As it is a grown lot, this is the first I have noticed it and I cannot confirm that I have ever seen it complete.

I will try to find the "Spa cleanitol" and see what files it may have moved if I happened to do it out of order somehow.
edit: I just did a search on my cleanitol archive and no "spa" name is contained in it other than the essentials file.

As the model was included in the upload installer it would not appear as a dependency even though technically it is. Normally only external dependencies are listed and this is not external, having been installed with the lots.
It appears that you used the spa Cleanitol file AFTER updating his lots instead of before and so have had the model removed. spa made a lot of updates and corrected some of his early BATs so the old models need removing but the new ones do not. This is spa's description with his Cleanitol file:
QuoteThis is the cleanitol file that when used with the cleanitol program will purge your hard drive of my old files. Use it only ONCE before you install my updated files. If you use it after having installed my newly released updates, Cleanitol will delete both the new and the old files. This is because the desc and lot files of the old and new are the same (kept the same names to avoid having to delete all past instances of each bat already in place in a built city). So again use it only ONCE and do so BEFORE you install my updated file.

Yes after searching through other things on the archive, I see what you are saying about the models, etc. And I understand that it wouldn't be listed as a dependency. It makes sense now what you said.. ;)

I searched through my history files and found (by downloading the spa cleanitol file again and finding what files to look for) that I ran it 2 times. I know that I did not just arbitrarily decide to run it, so I expect that I inferred that I should run it. I also note from my download history that I downloaded the spa cleanitol file 2x, 1x for each time I ran it. This suggests that I downloaded some SPA files on 2 occasions and that no doubt I was instructed to run it each time. The fact that it said once was no doubt a situation where I did not recognize that I was running a purge that I had run at another time. This was during the dl of the CAM items and I'm sure in the dozens if not hundreds of download that I did, I did not recognize that I had run the same file. I will try to reconstruct the files that I downloaded each time and see in the docs what I read to lead me to do that.

Of course this is only for historical purposes, as if we are on the right track, I will get the right files in the right places. My only problem will be, when the new and old files have the same name, to know which of the files purged are the correct files. As I'm pretty new to dependencies and megafiles, I probably have very few outdated files unless the author has updated his material recently. The reason I will trace the error of my ways is to possibly stop the next guy from doing whatever I have done..

As always, thanks for your help and time.

OK Here is the history of the "cleanitol"s  .. (I've deleted all the lines where it says "no found" as those cannot be of concern)

PS: You will recall that I had a problem with Sam The Record Man (or maybe you won't remember.. hehe.. you do so many.. but anyway you helped me on that one before.. ) as it seems to all be traceable to this situation.. And I suppose we're saving me having the same situation on Ardmore Tea Room, Tandoon Hut, Trend Fashions, etc.. :)

When you ran the two cleanups you removed model files. If you did not have the original downloads there was actually no need to run the Cleanitol file at all as that was for anyone who had the originals and was updating. As you say you are new to custom content you probably have not installed the originals.
BSC Cleanitol TM is a superb program but needs to be used correctly. There is no need to keep running it especially where you are told to run a file BEFORE installing new lots. There may be a need to run it if you download old lots from the STEX that may have included props in the zip or install but it seems to me that you are overusing it and trying to do things it is not intended to do.

Hi Wouanagaine,

Thanks for both Cleanitol and DATPacker - I've used them both recently and am impressed!

I am experiencing one problem however.  I am running v2.4 Cleanitol and when I run the master cleanuplist.txt I get the following error message and the program locks:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 489, in OnStart
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 247, in process
  File "distutils\file_util.pyo", line 224, in move_file
distutils.errors.DistutilsFileError: couldn't move 'C:\PROGRA~1\Maxis\SIMCIT~1\plugins\Props\Aldara6166\Prop Pack #1\readme.htm' to 'C:\Users\Paul\Documents\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol\20080104_12\readme.htm': Permission denied

I've looked through this thread and couldn't see this problem before.

And in my Props folder I do not have a sub folder called Aldara6166, so I am a bit confused why this file is causing the problem.  I have assumed this related to D66 prop pack, so I have removed everything by D66 from my Props folder but the problem still occurs.

Do you have any ideas how I can get round this problem please.  I have been able to run some lists, but not the "big" ones.

Thanks & Regards

Paul

I would say it seems like Aldara6166's readme.htm is write protected...

Aldara6166's prop pack is installed by an installer, but by default it is installed into:
C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Plugins\Aldara6166\Prop Pack #1

instead of:
C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Plugins\Aldara6166\Prop Pack #1

or (where it should have been):
C:\Users\Paul\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\Aldara6166\Prop Pack #1

That file is not write protected by default though.
I suppose you've moved the files to the following folder yourself?
C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\plugins\Props\Aldara6166\Prop Pack #1

Right-click on the readme.htm file in Explorer and click on Properties.
Check the attributes close to the bottom if the file is write protected.
If it is, uncheck that box, click OK, and rerun Cleanitol.

PS.
Aldara6166 and D66 are not the same person! $%Grinno$%

Hi RippleJet,

Wow, now that was a fast response.

I didn't knowingly put the file there.  And funnily enough on the file properties the "read only" box was not checked.  So I just deleted it, run the list in Cleanitol and it run beautifully.

Thanks for your help on this one - it certainly cleaned a lot out.

All the best,

Paul

 ;D You ruined the surprise!!!

And yeah, to add a pack name in front of the link, all you have to do is insert your text before the http: and you're good to go.

Be sure to leave a space between your added text and the hyperlink. So it should look like this:
acura NSX blue.dat;Acura NSX Automata And Residential Single Family Props http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=12483

I just downloaded the newest version of Cleanitol and checked over the "cleanuplist.txt". In using the old version, I have maintained my copy of that file, and have come across certain file extensions that are found in the PLUGINS folder and PROBABLY (IMO) be also removed. They are
*.bak
*.doc
*.ico
*.iit
*.ini
*.pdf
*.png
*.psg
*.tgi
*.url

The only one that is "iffy" is the .ini which is placed there by the Start Up Manager by SFBT (JLP2). If you are using that, you MAY want to remove that extension, but otherwise I like to know when I have .ini files in my plugin folder.

Thanks again for a nice tool..

You might want to add *.sav to the list, though - those are backup copies that were created by SC4Tool, and I noticed that some creators included them in their uploads accidentially. In certain cases, they might override the proper file(s).

OK! I have spent a lot of time thinking of things for Wounagain to do .. .hehe..

Fabulous though Cleanitol is, there are conditions where it cannot quite meet the needs of the ever-expanding ideas that all of SC4's "inventors" think up. Wou knows about this, but those who want to know the background may want to refer to this thread Cleanitol Apps Variations (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3451.msg111096#msg111096) The jist of this is that both Cleanitol and DatPacker don't really quite know how to handle cases where the designer makes a "pick one of x" installation options.

To summarize I quote:

Wou.. maybe this would be a feature to consider adding to the NEXT VERSION of Cleanitol.. a method of entering and reporting "option files". I mean so many people have found such nice uses for cleanitol and this just extends its uses even more.. :)  Lucky for me I have all this time to think up things for you to do! HAHA
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: xxdita on January 22, 2008, 11:51:34 AM
What next version? All you have to do is type in each file, then in the comments section, between the file name and the link, you type in OPTIONAL, or Use Only One... Or, using NAM as an example, when it's time to update, the Cleanitol can simply have NetworkAddonMod_Traffic_Plugin*.dat in place, to remove whichever plugin is being used. Most of the pick one of x files are named in this manner, so it shouldn't be an issue.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: SC4BOY on January 22, 2008, 12:09:37 PM
Hehe.. you run in elite circles perhaps? Thanks for the info.. hopefully it will become EVEN BETTER KNOWN!!

I've never seen the "optional" label used, and I've opened a lot of cleanup files.. ;)  I was wondering about an option along this line following all the nice info above, but its nice to know someone has applied a methodology to it.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: xxdita on January 22, 2008, 02:10:23 PM
I try not to run in circles, it makes me dizzy  $%Grinno$%

The additional text option was just realized in the past week, and was announced previously in this thread (scroll up to star.torturer's post). And you saw it in action in the BSC Parks cleanitol I made for Sapphire Blue, where I didn't have certain links readily available, and just typed in that we'd search later if necessary, just to help her figure out what the missing dependencies were.
It can be used when there are a number of files in one single zip, to label the whole pack, so that users realize that even though there may be 20 files missing, they're all in one place.
But when using it in terms of only needing one of x files, the user must actually LOOK above the missing dependencies, to see that there is one of those already installed, as Cleanitol first shows what you have, before what is missing. It would have been easier and perhaps less confusing if I had only typed in BSC_Park_Textures_*.dat for the park textures, so that Cleanitol would scan for any of them, showing it either there or missing only once. I'll ask Wouanagaine to update the Cleanitol posted in this thread http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3639 to reflect that.

Well we all appreciate all the thinking and improving and striving for the best.. Yes I read the "strings thread" above.. never actually made some dummies to test it out and see some of the in's and out's for myself.. which seems to be the only way I really understand it

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: SC4BOY on January 23, 2008, 06:11:38 PM
For a "remove list", is there a leading character to make a "comment".. that is a text line that WILL NOT be used or parsed through Cleanitol?

for example if I wanted to put *.png into the file (to remind me about the extension) but would only use it on specific occasions? Could I put for example

;*.png or
:*.png
or whatever?
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: xxdita on January 23, 2008, 06:19:16 PM
You can of course use Cleanitol to just see what is in your plugins folder, and then manually remove anything unwanted via Windows Explorer, instead of backing up. So you could make a txt with only *.png in it, just to check your Plugins as necessary.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: SC4BOY on January 23, 2008, 06:58:25 PM
So I assume that means "no"?
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: xxdita on January 23, 2008, 07:06:20 PM
It means we'll know when we get the ReadMe  $%Grinno$%

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

you can put 3 ; to make a comment

you can see it in action in those cleanitol files here : http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3639.msg111768

And after many many more reflexion between me and myself, I won't write a readme for a 3 buttons application

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM

As long as whoever makes the text file labels it as a Dependency Check or Removal txt, what to do should be self-explanatory.

I know using the -UserDir: command doesnt change the datpackers search folder, but does it changes Cleanitols?

EDIT: sorry looks like it doesn't YAY

What I have done is changed my -UserDir: to "$mydocs$/SimCity 4/Addons/" instead of the default $mydocs$/SimCity 4/, which loads the folders "Plugins", "Regions", and "HTTPCache" from "/addons/" instead of "/".

This means that I can have my unpacked, unsorted files (IE all my plugins) in the "$mydocs$/SimCity 4/Plugins/" folder. This is so that DatPacker and Cleanitol act on this folder where as the game acts on the "$mydocs$/SimCity 4/Addoms/Plugins/" folder, so you just redirect the DatPacker link to this folder and, bobs your uncle, you never need to move files around again. YAY

Joe

EDIT: sorry, forgot one thing. When I try and start DatPacker I get this error in a pop-up box.
Code (A0008162 Error) Select
Cannot load image from folder 'logo.jpg': File does not exist.
I don't believe it affects the rest of the functionality. Thanks.

As all of you know, I use cleanitol A LOT! ;)  When I use the result of the file (of course you hope you don't have to "undo" very much) I find myself wishing that it had one minor change. So I'd like to ask that the next time cleanitol gets a revision, that the Cleanitol_result.html file that is created have as THE FIRST LINE in it the NAME of the file from which it was run, ie Cleanitol Mega Pack SG.txt or whatever the name of the source file was. This would be a great help when working with a long list of YYYYMMDD_XX or whatever file folders. Thanks.

Neither do I, as Cleanitol only deals with the files that are in your Docs\SimCity 4\Plugins folder, nothing that is in the main Maxis folder, or anywhere else on your computer. And it certainly doesn't modify the game's exe in any way.
Wou's right, a fresh install of the game is probably in order.

It deals with Maxis Plugins in fact, but usally it only contains the background image which does not crash the game

this is kinda  a love story.......

a few days ago i loaded up a city and all of a sudden i had brown boxes...........ive never had them before and hadnt downloaded any new bats mods or anything.  it just all of a sudden had the brown boxes.  so i tried to redownload the plugins that were missing and still got the same brown boxes.  and yes i did the the whole unzip and all that stuff.

so pisst off i just deleted every plugin i had and restarted downloading them all.  it took me a few days but i pretty much got everything back i had.  i started to run Cleanitol to get the missing dependencies and thats when i ran into my trouble with Cleanitol.  ive never had any problems before so i now need some help.

now the problem is  that after i run cleanitol and lets say "Check for Deadwoods Dependencies" it says im missing like 5.  so i click the link provided and unzip then run it again and the same missing dependencies come up.

any help would be appreciated thanx.

Sounds like a typo somewhere in the Cleanitol file maybe?
Let me take a look at the file, and I'll get back to you.

Edit - OK, after looking at DEDWD's Master Cleanitol, it seems it needs to be updated a bit. I'll get it taken care of on Monday.

If you are sure you have installed something that is flagged, first make sure that you have the file (by searching for the filename mentioned in cleanitol) and then make sure that the dependency isnt just misspelled in the cleanitol file

Your on microsoft windows? press ctrl+f whilst viewing your plugins folder "(my) documents/simcity 4/plugins/" and type part of the name of the file that cleanitol reports as missing.

Or you could just tell us what cleanitol file you are running, and what file is missing and we could check for you ;)

In both cases the filename as given in the Cleanitol file seems to be correct,
so please verify that you have indeed installed these files in your plugins folder
(most likely under a subfolder under a subfolder called PEGPROD).

And make sure that you're running Cleanitol on your full, unpacked Plugins folder. Cleanitol will only search by filename, not the information within the file.

Is it the Cleanitol program you can't download from the LEX?

Try emptying you Internet cache first. ;)
In case you've downloaded it partially, you will continue to get the same partial download from your cached file every time you retry.

I have a question about cleanitol files provided with some downloads. In the zip files comes an .txt archive to run with cleanitol, but some of them are named with the word "remove" and some are not.

My question is, when is ok to remove and when is ok not remove those files?

An example:

I have this file: SFBT Pre-Fab CAM Cleanitol file

I think that the first part of the cleanitol file is only to check if I have those files, and if not, download them,
and the second part is to see if I have those files, then I should remove them from my plugins folder, is that correct?

I't a little confusing to me, thanks.

Yes you're totally right !

if an url is given is found on the line, Cleanitol search to see if the file exist and tell you to download it if not
if the line contains only a simple filename, then the file should be moved out of your plugins folder

Hi again,

I have came up with an idea on making Cleanitol easier to use. It requires a small change in the cleanitol installer (not the executable).

Is it possible to add a command in Windows Explorer, to allow opening the text file directly in Cleanitol? I think it is, the user could right-click on the cleanitol (.txt) file, and this could start cleanitol with the textfile as a parameter. So users could run cleanitol without having to save the textfile first and then start the execitable and browse for or drag the textfile.

If you go further, you can make the cleanitol accept two kinds of files, ie .txt (for compatibility with older uploads) and a new filetype, named say .Cleanitol (extensions shouldn't necessarily be 3-character long); the contents would be the same, of course. There are many more things you can do with this "new" filetype, like assigning an icon, allowing players to run it with a double-click, or performing a "Shell Open" from within an installer. And the amount of work required to make these is minimal (testing, packaging, reuploading and documenting is comparably much more work). But I think it's something that you may want to consider making.
Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: JoeST on December 07, 2008, 11:10:24 AM
hey cogeo, I have already tried that it is perfectly possible to open any plaintext file in Cleanitol, so you could rename your cleanitols to .clean or w/e and then make it auto open that type of file in cleanitol. its just that there is LOTS of files on the LEx that use .txt files. which are used by lots of other things and it would be unreasonable for most people to make all .txts open in cleanitol automaticaly.

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: wouanagaine on December 07, 2008, 11:15:19 AM
Very good idea

However as Joe said it should not be used as the default command on txt files
But you can add a 'cleanitol command'

I'll do a tutorial for that

Title: Re: BSC Cleanitol TM
Post by: cogeo on December 09, 2008, 11:23:59 AM
JoeST, I didn't mean make Cleanitol accept only the new (.Clean ?) filetype, and therefore have to change all uploads, but instead make it accept both (and this might not even require changing the executable).

It basically requires changing Cleanitol's installer (adding sth to the registry). Take as en example the image and/or html files. Right-clicking on the item causes a context menu to be displayed. These contain one "Open" command (in bold type) - which opens the file, just like double-clicking - and possibly additional "Open with..." commands. What I'm after is invoking Cleanitol from within the ZIP, without having to extract the cleanitol (text) file and run the Cleanitol (exe) externally; this would make Cleanitol much easier to use. The problem is that these "Open with..." commands appear to not work from within a ZIPped file (you can try images or html files). Do you know if there is a way to overcome this (I mean using Windows Shell techniques)?

I ran Cleanitol today and found these 3 files as "MISSING".  The one below is a texture update from 2007.  My question is......is there a way to update Cleanitol to where we dont get files that are outdated to not come up when running the program????  Now in this instance there is only 3 files to look at but some times you get dozens and its really time consuming.

MISSING : zzz_RHW_TUM_v2.05.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1063

Now,  the 2 below are for some reason are the exact same file but both came up after running Cleanitol.  These are NAM March 2009.  I know for a fact that this is installed and working on my laptop.  So, why am I getting this on Cleanitol?  And, why are 2 of the exact same coming up?

MISSING : NetworkAddonMod_ANT_Plugin_Beta.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851
MISSING : NetworkAddonMod_ANT_Plugin_Beta.dat has not been found, you can download it : http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851

Thanx for answering the questions.  Cleanitol is a great program and coupled with LEX Downloader makes the game easier to play.

The Cleanitol file which I think you are using is -
Cleanitol Mega Pack NAM.txt dated 18 Nov 2007
The newest version is -
Cleanitol_NetworkAddonMod.txt dated 01 Jan 2009
which is in the - NetworkAddonMod_Setup.zip

The same file is showing twice because it is listed twice in the file.

Ok, let me play Moron here for a moment.

Should I assume that Cleanitol is only good for installing new content that has a the necessary cleanitol .txt files included with them?  OR is there some sort of master cleanitol file that can run through all my plugin files telling me what dependencies I've missed on any of the plugins that are installed in my plugins folder?

I downloaded the latest Cleanitol file from the LEX, and I click the ... browse button to see all these cleanitol files that came with the cleanitol program however I'll be danged if I could even remember which plugins I might have installed out of the semi-vast list of cleanitol files included with the program.  Obviously some of the names seem memorable like BSC since I have a lot of Plugins in my BSC folders, however things like Airports I couldn't tell you from memory if I ever installed any custom airport content or not and running some other cleanitol files that were included tell me Im up to date and have no missing dependencies (do I know if I have the plugins that required that dependency check? No, I don't honestly know), and some other cleanitol .txt files tell me that I am missing a slew of dependencies, again do I have the plugins that required the vast list of missing dependencies?  I don't honestly know.

There seems to be a couple tools available, some that I like best like the SC4 Organizer and download installer that seem to somehow interact with the cleanitol program but exactly how I've not yet had the time to investigate, but just thought to get an answer to my first question above, and to ponder at this point (since I've got about 2.5GB packed  (datpacker 08) plugins, and about 4GB unpacked, which it is the unpacked that I run the cleanitol program on just in case anybody thinks Im a complete moron and trying to run cleanitol on packed files (Im not)) ;) .... And to ponder at this point whether I should just start all over once again and start redownloading all the plugins that interest me see if they have a cleanitol file included and run it prior to installing the plugins or if Cleanitol is the miracle tool that will somehow run through all my plugins finding missing dependencies.

Sorry for being the total fool in this thread, Im fine if it can't run through my plugins to find any missing dependencies via a master Cleanitol list that might be hosted somewhere, I just want to make sure before I progress to stripping out all my plugins and starting over once again since that takes a substantial amount of time to find everything again and redownload everything once more.  You may wonder, why start all over if things are going well... Well, sometimes they don't go so well, there are times trying to place a known good plugin building and the game crashes, then the next time I try to place that building the game is fine with it, suspecting not likely to be the plugin itself but disorganization methods implemented by myself prior to downloading any tools might mean it's time to start over once again sadly. :(

Thanks a lot for the tool, as with all tools for SC4 it is seriously appreciated to help us (me).

No, there is no way Cleanitol could be your miracle tool and know what you've installed and check for possible missing dependencies.

A Cleanitol file is only a list that the creator has assembled to help you collect your dependencies and possible remove conflicts and outdated files. This would have to be done when you're installing what that creator made. Dependencies, conflicts and outdated files are normally also listed in an accompanying readme file.

A Crash To Desktop can occur e.g. if you have conflicting airport or seaport controllers. Plugins that may cause CTD unless installed properly always have a readme explaining this, which conflicts to remove and which dependencies to download. They normally also come with a Cleanitol file helping you with this. And this should of course be dealt with the same day that you installed them. However, if you don't remember whether you've installed custom airports, how would Cleanitol know?

Thanks,

Yeah that's what I figured.  Well I will attempt to start weeding the plugins of duplicates to start by creating a copy of my plugins and dumping them all from their seperate folders into one large folder to get rid of duplicates and then seperate them out alphabetically (creating folders A-Z) and putting them into their and then start chopping them out one at a time to see when the crashes start and stop.

I guess that I was dreaming (hoping) that somehow there was one huge cleanitol file that was produced with most known plugins and their dependencies and then cleanitol would check to see if I had the plugin installed and then check to see if the dependencies were installed for it too and then notify me of just those plugins that I actually have installed and any missing dependencies.  Oh well.  Not to be, no harm, no biggie.  I guess part of the whole SC4 user content is spending some time keeping things clean.

I guess I'll have to be more careful about installing once I get it all sorted out.  Shouldn't take more than 24 to 72 hours I suppose ;)

Thanks for the explanation of how it works, much appreciated.

Does it occurs on any files or files with name like the above ( ie mainly asian files ) ?
BTW if you use DatPacker, you don't need to run the cleanitol.txt that comes with cleanitol

No, even if I take out the entire folder it will find a wrong file in a completely different one.
It is taking out many of the useless files and such, because i don't get the error until a few seconds into the backing up of the files, but each time I rerun the locater there is still a whole lot...

also I posted a pic in the other thread.

Ok, so now I have a new problem in addition to the other.

I have noticed that since using the cleanitol, several of the files it gets rid of (before it gives the error) are important files because when I go into the game, I get the error saying Im missing dependancies like for example, the cleanitol removed simgoobers warehouses- Is there any way I can stop this?

What trouble are you having, it seems to work fine on my Windows 7 64bit installation.  That is to say, I've started it, and it runs and seems to be doing what it's supposed to do.

Seems like the file is marked Read Only. Locate the file in Windows Explorer, right click and select Properties. Uncheck the Read Only option. That should do the trick!

While the "read only" was not the issue, your suggestion to go to the Properties lead me to the solution.  Under the Compatibility tab there was a drop down that had various systems listed.  Selected the XP Service Pack 3 and BINGO EVERYTHING NOW SEEMS TO WORK OK.

Thank you very much for your answering my post and helping me to the solution.

Hi,

there were a couple things I was wanting to ask real quick.

First I was curious to find out what to do when One Mod/Dep ask for certain files to be removed but then another Mod/Dep requires those to be available would that be a case where I have to choose to have one or the other? (I might have answered my own question but would like a confirmation on the answer.) Reason I ask is I have finally downloaded all the Dep's and a few Buildings that I want and am currently going through all the Cleanitol Remove files and I'm coming across this and a few other things. (I did run Cleanitol before installing if the readme required other wise I did not)

second I have gotten two errors when trying to backup files the first one being:

C:\Program Files\BSCCleanitol\Remove_list_BSC_Essentials.txt

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 489, in OnStart
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 247, in process
  File "distutils\file_util.pyo", line 224, in move_file
distutils.errors.DistutilsFileError: couldn't move 'C:\PROGRA~1\Maxis\SIMCIT~2\plugins\BSC Essentials.dat' to 'C:\Users\Paul\Documents\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol\20101104_09\BSC Essentials.dat': Permission denied

and the second one being:

C:\Program Files\BSCCleanitol\RemoveList_SGGroceryStores_Lots_result.txt

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 489, in OnStart
File "BSC Cleanitol TM.py", line 247, in process
  File "distutils\file_util.pyo", line 224, in move_file
distutils.errors.DistutilsFileError: couldn't move 'C:\PROGRA~1\Maxis\SIMCIT~2\plugins\Background3D0.png' to 'C:\Users\Paul\Documents\SimCity 4\BSC_Cleanitol\20101104_10\Background3D0.png': Permission denied

Idunno why I would not have permission as I have full rights so wasnt sure.

Also when I was checkinf deadwoods Dep's I am getting:

**************************************************
                    R E P O R T

I got BSC Cleanitol TM 2013 from March 2 2013, but it doesn't recognize existing files.

I guess that the new version doesn't like empty spaces in filenames.

For example, the file BSC Essentials.dat is there, in root of ...\documents\SimCty 4\plugins folder - no doubt.

But the tool just says MISSING.

What is the issue?

Running x64, the dlls are in syswow64, running tools as admin, no solution found yet...

I'm experiencing the same problem.  I just upgraded to the 2013 NAM version.  Cleanitol did locate a *.txt and *.exe file in my Plugins, but it is telling me that all of the existing dependencies are actually missing.  I did verify that Cleanitol is searching of the Plugins in the proper location and that all of these files exist.

Hello,

thank you for the fix.

But now I found another issue, that is not a "real" bug but kind of a "wrong feature":

To make the work with Cleanitol easier I decided to set *.txt - files as "Open with..." and chose BSC Cleanitol TM.exe as a possibility (but not default of course).

Now, when I open a *.txt - file with it, it automatically does the "Backup now" process, not the "Locating files" process first (and only).

Could you change that behaviour?

That would be great.

Edit: and also it doesn't seem to use the "current.lang" (I renamed the german.lang to current.lang) - when "Opening with..." it defaults to english.

--

Edit:

Ah, another thing came to my mind...

Please allow Drag'n'drop so that the user could drag a *.txt - file to the main window (or the "Input file list - browse bar") so that the file is opened (and optionally checked with "Locating files" directly after).

The new behavior is what the NAM team asked for to prevent people to 'forgot' to 'Backup now'

As for the others ideas, I may or may not implement them, as time is a bit short
I have a new version for NAM to do, so maybe I'll try to incorporate yours in it

The new version fixed the problem for me.  Thanks for the incredibly fast fix, Wouanagaine!

I'm getting an issue where Cleanitol is saying I'm missing all my files, but I can see quite clearly that they are there.  The file I'm using is the CAMeLot_StarterPack_Dependencies.txt and manually checking it appears I've got most of the ones it says are missing.  Version is 2013.2.

Ignore my previous post, it appears that there were some underscores in the files, but spaces in the cleanitol which I think caused it to mismatch.

If come across an issue when running the Remove_List_BSC MEGA Props - Misc Vol02.txt it wants to remove pretty much all of my mod files, including a large chunk of files from NAM33. Is this right?

I wouldn't recommend it, no.

Have you peeked inside the .txt file to see what it should be doing, this is very weird behaviour, suggests another file has been loaded somehow to me?

Maybe you had the file twice in your plugin folder. That could case a conflict. Therefore it will be removed from olugin folder?

Quote from: wouanagaine on January 22, 2007, 02:20:56 AMI have upload the BSC Cleanitol TM tool to the LEX here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=97)

Why can't I choose the installation loacation? It won't find any duplicates in Progam Files or Documents because I install all my mods in the game's plugin folder.

Quotebecause I install all my mods in the game's plugin folder.

Well, that's an issue... You should NOT install the mods into the game's plugin folder, instead almost all of the mods should go into the documents/simcity4/Plugins folder (the only exceptions are the *.DLL mods, like the extra cheats and the sc4fix - the dll mods can go into the game's plugins folder). So you can start moving and installing them into the proper location and after that the cleanitol will work as it was intended.
EDIT:
It doesn't matter where you installed the cleanitol program itself - it should be installed by the way into the Program Files or Program Files (x86) as that is an application/program/tool, and it's not a plugin.
It does matter, however, where you installed the plugins. By default they should go into the Documents/Simcity4/Plugins. The cleanitol is designed to check the Documents/Simcity4/Plugins folder (where you should have installed almost all of your plugins) as many of the actual cleanitol text files, that are listing the to be removed files also listing *.jpg/*.png/*.exe etc... extensions which are useless for the game and sometimes come with the uploaded ZIP files. But if you run it elsewhere on your computer it can cause serious issues with other programs, so that's why it is limited to locate files in the default location...

The creators of the Cleanitol tool luckily did make it sure that less techy users would not make irreversible mistakes by deleting essentials system files or essential files from other programs...

Yeah this is a tricky one, because whilst I absolutely use the Install/Plugins folder myself, for regular users, it really isn't a good idea. I certainly don't put my main Plugins suite there, rather those fixes what are common to all my many Plugins suites I have (there are many).

Maxis never intended for entire Plugins suites to be located there, so neither did the creators of Cleanitol. Again, it's quite right to say absolute carnage could be caused with the wrong script ran in Program Files, the sort where you are formatting drives and starting your system over from scratch. Even in the less serious category, if you ran a script that clears out non-SC4 files in a place with all your photos/documents etc, in one foul swoop, you could loose a lot of data. Sure Cleanitol doesn't delete anything, it moves it and even offers a single script for restoring things to how they were. But there are scenarios where that may not prevent data loss.

So in essence, you CAN use the Install folder, but since this is an advanced/unintended method, you can expect little issues like this. Simple work-around, temporarily copy the contents to the UserDIR Plugins folder before running Cleanitol, then restore them afterwards.
