Very good pictures there and good work, @ both!

I still think that's a nice one even though it failed with 10-0 in the picture competition:

Have fun

Bernhard

By all means it is a great pic. The little details like the catenaries and your choice of engine really add to the pic.

Yes, a wonderful pictures of that railway, Nardo69!

Hi Bernhard ,

I wanted to comment not only this picture but the one currently in competition as well ( but it's a personal choice to do not participate to this competition in anyway - too subjective - ) . Everything looks so natural and we know at the same time that it is so elaborated ... this is the definition of "Brilliant work" .   &apls &apls &apls
As a great train fan ( but that's too much work for me with SC4 , have already so much to do ...) , I've visited recently websites about Microsoft Train Simulator and Add-ons , don't know if you know/play that game , if not , you should have a look . ;)

Thanks for all the compliments! I must confess I am still a bit shocked that THAT pic got not a single vote in the second round ... but oh well, time goes on ...

@Badsim: Only a little bit. I do have MSTS plus some commercial Addons and freeware downloads (the latter I couldn't install though ...  :'( )but I never went into it very deep  - a question of time ... My favorite addons are German railways between 1960 and 1980 btw (the more steam the better ...  ;D )
And well, you are right: the more natural it shall look the more you need to elaborate it. It took hours only to get the dam and the bridge over the PEG's kanal (a kanalized river btw) in the right shape ...

For those who haven't look into the competition by now here is my current pic:

It's in the third round but I don't believe that it's going to enter the HoF - the other pic is too much beach and sun and holiday I think ...

Anyway:

Have Fun!

Bernhard

Hi Sepsis ,

I know your work - who don't ? - and admire it (@ Simpeg where I'm just a lurker) . I was waiting for the opening of Rodina here months ago , but finally that didn't happen ... first contact : a great day (for me) . :)

At the moment I see no point starting up Rodina at this place..but things might change..

It's very nice you decided to show some pictures from your excellent MD (CJ?  ;)) here

Everything looks very good, but my favourites are little but unusual details - for example the pedestrian underpass under the GLR line and pedestrian bridge over the canal (both on the second picture)
The GLR station on the third pic is placed perfectly, also it's surrounding is very nice
And of course your industrial shots are one of the best in this category

Creative ideas, great details, excellent finishing  :) &apls

@Nardo - great picture, don't worry about competition, who should see your work, will do it and enjoy it for sure

Things will change , I hope so .... I'm rather pessimistic about human nature and relationships , I don't really care praises , but have found here an emulation like nowhere else , and if we could send it back ....  ;)

Some news from German railway BATters: royal BATted the standard electric light signals from the Deutsche Bundesbahn that can be found all over Western Europe Germany:

More in my current MD update ...

No railroaders here?

Ok, two more screenies:

Same station, from two angles

Have fun

Maybe I'm not a rail maniac, but I had a lot of Piko rail stuff when I was a boy  :D
And now I like building rails in sc4 very much!
These catenaries and new signals are a great addition, they increased realism of rail areas a lot  :)

I have two questions:
1. I understand you had to put catenaries relatively close one to another (you have a small rail station). But what you think (as a rail specialist): which distance between catenaries would you suggest - on the single rail line and on the station (more lines, wide catenaries)?
2. Would it be possible to add catenaries and signals as props to the large railyard set (This one with multiple lanes and many train props)?  :)

My friend, you don't need to be a maniac to enjoy a good railway design. Which isn't that difficult as the rules for the signals aren't that complicated.

1) This is a very good question. IRL I would estimate the distance to 30-50 m - small catenaries with smaller distances than with the large poles for 5 tracks etc. It is also a question of speed - the higher the speed the higher the forces on the wires and therefor the catenaries.

Right at the Moment I use 1 tile orthogonally and no tile diagonally to be compatible with the catenary mod (still in beta, will be available for download when it will be ready). But a two tile orthogonally and 1 tile diagonally fits, too, actually I used this distance before I began to test the catenary mod.

2) Definatively yes. In order to place those signals at the right places especially on large stations and railyards a lot of LE works is necessary therefor all the signals will be available as props - orthogonally with and without offset and diagonally (only without offset)

Anyway if I find the time I am going to do a large chapter for this topics in my "Thoughts" - thread ...   ;)
