Looks great Emgmod! Just wondering, is it functional?  &apls

Andreas

It looks like a diagonal rail viaduct, so it should be functional. ;) Nice work!

emgmod

It's a diagonal rail viaduct. I was wondering how many people knew about the trick, and how many people who would ask if it's functional.

Andreas

Probably not that many, as I have seen this only once before. ;)

Floydian

It looks like a puzzle piece viaduct... But how'd you build that across the water... Unless its rain tool water?!?

Andreas

You can plop puzzle pieces in water as well. And if the water is deep enough, the sims get a free carwash. ;)

....a free carwash

It works.
It turns red when there is a conflict (e.g., with another bridge, too steep underwater terrain, ...)

Random question maybe, but will it crash your game?
Returning from Call of Duty . Must rebuilt what I destroyed....

emgmod

I don't think it will.

From what I did so far, it's guaranteed to work perfectly on a flat riverbed that is exactly 15 meters from the average height of the land.

emgmod

Here's how I did it. It can only be done for brand new flat cities.

1. Head to God Mode --> Terrain Effects --> Raise Terrain Level
2. Lower all the land by 23 meters.
3. Raise the parts of the map you want land by 15 meters.
4. God Mode --> Terrain Effects --> Lower Terrain Level
5. Terraform a 15 meter cliff where your rail line will turn into a bridge.
6. Use the Onslope pieces to make the bridge.

Since my MD is currently taking a rail trip, I have more pictures.

Here's a closer shot of one end of the diagonal bridge.

The Cambridge 8th Avenue viaducts were built to grade separate the commuter, regional, and intercity trains passing through Cambridge, when automobiles weren't widespread. Now they are considered a part of Illu'a history.

And here's the Cambridge/Lordside station.

If you haven't built any tunnels and bridges yet, you can even do it in developed cities using the 'setsealevel' cheat.

Open the command line (CTRL+X) and input setsealevel x where 0 <= x <= 200. This will set the water line to the defined hight. Now you can use the hole digging lots to terraform your viaduct line.
To obtain the default sea level again, just save and reload the city.

Be careful though: the 'setsealevel' command will destroy any existing bridges and tunnels in the city!

After using the command however, you may build bridges and tunnels at your leisure as they will not be destroyed when reloading the game. (In fact, that's the method I normally use when building diagonal bridges or underwater tunnels.)

A freight train moving across snow covered terrain. Most of the snow came from using Gimp.

That's really nice engmod ;D

Here's a much less festive screenshot of some custom railroad lots:

Great pictures guys &apls
Really like your custom lot puresim.

Here is one of mine. I call it "it's a long wait"

Btw puresim, where did you get the track lot from? bcos the one that I'm using in my cl has no grass near the track. Are you using track as overlay on grass base lot?

Cheers,
