Before FAR...

After FAR...

Kind of speaks for itself, doncha' think?

We're sure there'll be more beta test pics today over at 3RR [linkie].  It's be great to see you drop by.

The beta test has already produced one major improvement, which Alex (Tarkus) will be implementing.  The great news is that, because the NAM is now modular, we don't have to wait for the next release to get this out and into everyone's hands.

There's more beta test pics and discussion over at 3RR [linkie].  See you there.

[/data][data]Thought I'd post a couple pictures that were snatched from the Massopax State DOT's files...

I tried playing U-Drive-it today with the FAR's and it worked fine. They show up in the region view too.

Pretty much the only issue I've is when I've mislaid a puzzle piece and when I bulldoze it, it messes up the neighboring pieces, such that if I have a long string of FAR's, all of them end up getting messed up as I bulldoze the previous messed-up puzzle piece, and so on.

At any rate it's a neat tool.

[/data][data]I thought instead of having the same pictures of FAR as the SC4D thread, I'd show a mosaic!

Although its not filled to the brim with FAR, it just goes to show how well it integrates into the existing road network. Well done David!

dfnva: For the mislaid puzzle pieces, I've found that its actually ok not to demolish everything. Bulldoze all except for the one tile which connects to the other FAR piece, then laid it down again and it shall connect nicely  ;D

[/data][data]It's good. So what's the differance between these and the curve pieces in the NAM?  [/data][/row]

[/data][data]That looks simply unbelievably good. Great for some twisty mountain roads. You should try to do it on something like Stelvio pass in Switzerland. [/data][/row]

[/data][data]Well, hi again.

Explodingsims, in answer to your question, here's the next FARR piece- the 45 degree curve.

No. 1, of course, is the game 45 degree curve.  Enough said.

No. 2 is the 45 degree curve that currently is in the NAM (It's been there since the version released in January, 2007).   It is included in the puzzle-pieces and has been, to this point, the only break from the game curve radii.  It has been a wonderful addition to the game, and I have used it in 3RR [linkie] to the exclusion of the game "45s" since its release.

No. 3 is the curve I just finished texturing (it is shown on a lot because that's the only way to see it until the puzzle-piece masters work thoir magic).  Note that it is smoother and more uniform, that the ties actually are properly aligned with the curve and that transitions are improved (I have a tie mis-alignment issue at the 45 degree end- the game 45 degree "straight" section has different tie spacing).  All that said, the dimensions and in particular the radius is the same.  This will be the 45 degree puzzle-piece available in the next release of the NAM.

So now we have this

and this.

Something big coming up next.

This was a 3RR-ST exclusive.  Thanks for your interest.

David

[/data][data]The new piece looks very good, much more natural. Is it possible to create the new piece in a Y or left and right hand switch configuration? [/data][/row]
