Title: io_bg's lots (last updated 29.12.)
Post by: io_bg on September 03, 2009, 02:07:05 PM
Hi everyone! I decided to start this thread because tag_one asked me to upload 2 plazas. But first I'd like to hear more opinions before uploading them. Please post suggestions, tips, requests (I can make other sizes if you want). So here are the plazas:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg412.imageshack.us%2Fimg412%2F6329%2F48712520081.jpg&hash=01d529d11c643e30fa1bda14aab8c61414f1616e)
The first one is 4x4 and the second 6x2 tiles.
I also made a relot of Wang Chau, a bat made by Bixel.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg412.imageshack.us%2Fimg412%2F4146%2F4791252005719.jpg&hash=d257efc31cb9a83d9133d7c36caf6689640894b9)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg35.imageshack.us%2Fimg35%2F1951%2F4791252005728.jpg&hash=82980406d9c9a9a7225e80891f3bd5cc96ecae9a)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg44.imageshack.us%2Fimg44%2F9011%2F4791252005735.jpg&hash=34d89c6209187db3ee2b78ef77d1fa9646f1bc25)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg35.imageshack.us%2Fimg35%2F5302%2F4791252005742.jpg&hash=d4495109fe248fb5d1dee30a75e7fa1fb6b8b14a)
And the last lot I'll show you is something like a "final" bus station, where buses turn around at the end of a bus line and then pick up passengers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg300.imageshack.us%2Fimg300%2F9646%2F4861252007324.jpg&hash=dca3fb52597c022f04eb6a0d85ec452fb00d2b54)
There's a big with the overlay textures where the grass meets the white pavement. Here's how it should like:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg168.imageshack.us%2Fimg168%2F4262%2F391251368824.jpg&hash=428c7adc778c2703c117a3b0854f70deda0ab484)
I've put people props on all lots, but unfortunately on most of the pictures they aren't showing up :(.
Please leave a comment after viewing this thread. I don't want to gain number of views or comments, I just want to hear your opinion before releasing them (especially the plazas).

They are very nice. Do you know the name and pack of the big trees in the plazas? Personally I'm not a huge fan of the bus stop. The apartment block is very nicely lotted, are the trees seasonal?
Title: Re: Io_bg's lots
Post by: io_bg on September 03, 2009, 02:19:28 PM
Yep, the trees are from C.P.'s newest prop pack (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2135). All trees in all lots are seasonal.

These are looking fabulous  &apls
I especially love the bus station you've made.
Once again, everything looks great and pretty real - you've got a lot of talent  ;)

Keep up the good work,
Fabian

Ah yes, I already have them!

Seasonal trees really make a lot a bit special, and as more people make their lots with them, it will really improve one aspect of the game that had been missing.

Also, I think the thing with people props is that some of them are timed to appear at certain points in the day. Therefore, you may need to check that out.

I want to elaborate on why I don't like the bus stop: I think the grass growing over the concrete looks disorderly, where I like things to be tidy and have clean borders (this is just my opinion, I'm sure some people will like it - Fabian does. You already do, and that should be why you make lots, for yourself). Also, it is made for RHD, so the busses would look as though they were on the wrong side for me in my LHD game. I do like the fact that it is TE, and the shelters are nice.

The Plaza's look excellent as does the relotting of the bat by bixel  &apls &apls

As for the bus "stop" it loooks great but...

IMO it seems too narrow for the articulated buses to turn around in. Articulated buses have quite a large turning circle and it seems to me they would have to a lot of difficulty in turning in such a narrow space. If the lot was twice as wide it would be better. It would also be better if the buses picked the passengers up on the way "out" rather than on the way "in".

This is some really good work

:satisfied:

Fabian93 - Thanks for the kind words :)
joelyboy911 - Yeah, I agree about the seasonal trees, that's why I've made all those lots with them. ;)
TheTeaCat - Thanks! I know that articulated buses turn with more difficulty, but I've seen really narrow places where they turn. I checked one on Google Earth and it looked wider than mine, so I think I'll make the lot a bit wider. It's intended that first passengers exit the bus (the side with the one blue bus), turn around and then pick up other passengers (the side with 3 buses). You've probably got confused because in England vehicles drive on the left, and this station is a "normal" one, where the vehicles drive on the right. I'm also going to make more variations of this lot with different sizes.
Again, thanks to all of you for commenting, here it's getting late so I gotta go to bed. Good night! (or day depending where you live :P)

Hello I0_bg

The rectangular park is super.

Nice lotting.

I am guessing you did not make the fountain in the first plaza? (since you are lotting not Batting).  Unfortunately (to me) the bushes on the plaza need work; they sort of stand out next to the other nice flora on the lot.  Other than that, it's a spendid job.  I like the rework of Bixels lot; you should do more of those...  ;)

nice work, I've kinda the opposite opinion than Simgoober on the bushes, I think they work quite nicely ;)
But the tree on the planters on 4x4 lot looks quite a bit odd, maybe you can correct it by elevating the tree a little bit more but it seems to be a LOD problem on the planter more likely?

Anyway great job.

Good day, everyone, I'm back to show you some progress :) So, I edited the bus station a bit and removed the articulated buses (I think single ones should be able to make the turn)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg297.imageshack.us%2Fimg297%2F5958%2F4871252055068.jpg&hash=aff3e0ca4caf1b6619395cf4764f518b1848f531)
And second, I made a new lot. It is intended to be placed on corners. I've added a small office to make things more realistic. Joelyboy didn't like the grassy one, that's why this one is paved.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg196.imageshack.us%2Fimg196%2F8498%2F4881252055257.jpg&hash=59142d1dd6d7083c3e9e133340bd2cd4d0c49dd6)
It's transit enabled but unfortunately one of the streets doesn't line up well.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg297.imageshack.us%2Fimg297%2F8289%2F488125205528.jpg&hash=399cf371db4c0e0b0fda874ae06255ed4e17cf37)
I almost forgot the replies ;D, here they are:
jmyers2043 - Thank you!
SimGoober - The fountain is made by NDEX (sorry, I don't remember what's its name and who is the creator). And yes, I think I'll make more relots :)
Leodido - Thanks, I agree about the trees on the planters, I'll have to change the planters with others.
So, guys, should I upload these plazas (of course after correcting the problem on the 4x4 one)? Should I make more with different sizes first?
Title: Re: Io_bg's lots
Post by: joelyboy911 on September 04, 2009, 03:02:37 AM
I like the new bus stop very, very much. Isn't there an effect prop that generates a static version of whatever bus mod you have installed? That could be a good way to have the busses. Actually, when I thought about it, the first bus stop could look nice in suburban/semi-rural medium wealth areas.

Nice bus stop I like it also, great job :)

I like your lot a lot ( $%Grinno$% ) Ioan, as I've already told you, excellent work !
The Wang Chau Relot looks quite nice, nice use of CP's new (awesome) trees, like on all your creation. The only critic I can have on it is that a little lake of bench, lights etc.. to make looking even more realistic.
The two plazas are quite nice, too. The general aspect is good, the use of lights, benches and more is nice. The fountain props well choose and the floras added great !
Now as for the new bus terminal, I think that buses will be on a lane, for example at top of it single blue buses, at bottom articulated yellow ones etc...

Take care,
-Arthur.

joelyboy911 - Thanks, yes, there is such a prop, if there's more demand I'll replace the buses with this prop.
Leodido - Thank you!
art128 - Thanks, my friend! But don't you mean "lack" instead of "lake"? If yes, I already did that but I wont post pics of the relot because this is just a minor change.
The main question remains - should I upload these plazas and should I make more with different sizes first? I'd also like to ask you something else - on the 6x2 plaza the bench props are by swi21. Should I replace them with CP's ones? I think downloading one dependency only for one prop should be avoided.
I have also changed the planters on the 4x4 plaza, here is how it looks like with the new ones (the pic is taken from LE)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg177.imageshack.us%2Fimg177%2F5993%2Fplaza.jpg&hash=9fcb2a62a6603863d65058fc85c09f9561e9ab8d)

Wow! Excelent work io_bg! The new planters look pretty nice to me. I agree with you about the benches, downloading an extra dependencie just for one prop doesn't feel right to me.
I hope you can release this lots soon! I can't wait for them.

hello io_bg,

I've sent you a mail, and obviously granted my consent. Btw, you shouldn't have asked, since according to the applicable law (Hungarian in case), this kind of a basic concept is not a subject of intellectual property rights. But this is not the point, I really appreciate your kindness  &scl().

Your plazas are great, but I think the 2x6 could use TE-ing, it would be perfect for downtown ped malls, and with two reverse-type 2x2 puzzle lots they could be built in any length (just like the way I'm using them  ;) ) and maybe Simgoober's fountain is a bit out of scale on this lot

Title: Re: Io_bg's lots
Post by: io_bg on September 05, 2009, 04:56:10 AM
emmotic - Thanks! Yes, I'll release them as soon as possible!
surrus-ginagi - Well, I asked you because I almost stole them from you when I saw them in Show us your custom lots thread ;) I felt "guilty" and I asked you :P I like your idea for 2x2 lots, and I made some (5 actually). Click on the thumbnail for full resolution.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg30.imageshack.us%2Fimg30%2F4610%2F001252150772.th.jpg&hash=0e28d55320fdba79054830e6655d78c9b955d6ed) (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/001252150772.jpg/)
Of course, these can be used individually or can be plopped next to each other to form bigger plazas of any size. Please post suggestions or requests for more variations before I have uploaded them :D What is left to do is making icons for the 2x2 lots, modding them and writing a readme.
Title: Re: Io_bg's lots
Post by: SimNation on September 05, 2009, 08:33:59 AM
I like those 2x2 plazas you have shown in your last post..also I know why your bus station street does not line up...look at the space you have between the 1st two that do line up properly with the street. The small plaza divider inbetween those two are bigger then the one between the 2nd bus lane and the 3rd one. You just need to make that plaza divider between bus lane 2(the middle) and 3( the one on far left) the same as you did the 1st bus lane and 2nd bus lane.

SimNation - yeah, I know why it doesn't line up :P I'll correct that later.

I'd like to announce that Arthur (art128) and me founded a team named EBLT (European bat and lot team)!!!  %BUd% And this is going to be our first upload! Now I'm uploading it on the STEX, I'll give you a link when I'm done!

Thank you, Sciurus and art128! :)
So, the bigger bus station is corrected. I'd like to ask you whether someone knows of good garage props that can be used in a bus depot (where buses are being repaired and kept during the night)?
Another question: do you think that it's worth uploading the relot of Wang Chau? (see the 1st post on the 1st page for picture)
Edit: the dependencies for it will be
Wang Chau Public Housing Estate (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17588)
SG Marriot hotel (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=4430) (needed for the parking garage) here comes a question - will it be better if I replace the garage with a Maxis prop?
CP Prop Pack 2009a (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2135) (for the seasonal trees)
BSC Textures vol 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90)
BSC Textures vol 2 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=638)

Thanks, tcx!
I'm back to show you two new lots. The first one is a relot of Campbell Mithun Tower (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22369). Its size is 6x4 tiles and includes an underground garage and a small garden. On the side there's a refreshment stand with some tables and chairs. I still have to add some people props as well as flowers or bushes in the empty planters.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg195.imageshack.us%2Fimg195%2F7235%2F5381252653458.jpg&hash=28a843d5b3c85d7e1c545c2c58d79d927c2624bc)

The second one is a relot of City Tower Manchester (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19837). The size is the same. It also has an underground parking garage. After several crashes, I finally managed to take some pics of it. :angrymore:

At the moment I'm not planning to release them but if there's demand I will do that :)

These relots look very good. I like your lotting style. On the second picture there's an odd shadow at the left side of the stairs, though.

And since there's always demand for good lots..... ;).

ponnie - thank you; I noticed that shadow, too... I guess it's caused by the LOD of that prop.
Andreas - thanks, I corrected that!
So, the relot of City Tower is on the STEX now! You can get it here! (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22507) The Campbell Mithun Tower will appear on the STEX, too, but probably tomorrow.
Here's a lot I made (inspired by an Arthur's one ::))

I still have to change some things on it (an example is the grass on the parking lot ;)) and to put car props.

Thanks for the comments, guys! Guillaume - the overlay textures I've used are offset, so transit enabling the entrance isn't the best idea.
Some news: the relotted Campbell Mithun Tower has been released to the STEX! (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22526)

Did you include the jobs on the new lot?  The jobs and other stuff from the desc was included in the lot. ;)

The lot and area around it in real life is very simple, in fact the plaza is across the street. So I did the lot like it was in real life.

Post by: io_bg on October 04, 2009, 09:37:08 AM
Hello, everyone, I have some stuff to show :)
Swat-medic - I'm glad you like it; and I have included jobs. I see you've really made the lot like in RL, however I don't always like simple things  $%Grinno$%

Have you always wanted wider sidewalks or just simple fillers? Here's something you might find useful!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg225.imageshack.us%2Fimg225%2F1402%2Feastwoodmar105951254673.jpg&hash=a6375504241357a9a3e31369f98e6ad600ba81ed)
There are 3 simple 1x1 lots:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg205.imageshack.us%2Fimg205%2F9931%2Feastwoodmar105951254732.jpg&hash=6e75aee89d4a76bc674f63e0dea1f100386478bb)
a corner one and 2 straight ones (with different flora, one with a streetlight and the other with a bench). I've used prop families for the rosebeds and the trees. The only disadvantage of it is that sometimes the trees repeat and that in every different season you'll see a different tree (hopefully with similar size ;)) Would it be better if I make them with only one tree type (it'll be rotated differently in every lot)? Or should I put a prop family with evergreen trees?
I'll also make versions for other sidewalk mods - default Maxis, sandstone and asphalt, as well as another lot with different size (1x1 or 1x4 for example).
Any suggestions and feedback are highly appreciated!

Deffinately an interesting idea... Not sure what to make of what you mentioned about the trees, as for me that would be fine, but maybe better if you went with your second suggestion, prop families to have that variety showing at least. The lots themselves look great, and I can see em' used as fillers as well. :)

I'm sure seasonal would look best, it doesn't have to be only one type of tree, as I don't mind the tree itself changing with each season. :)

I really like your lots, especially those sidewalk fillers.  As far as the props go, I've been meaning to ask if there isn't a way to use a seasonal prop family without the trees changing from season to season.  I swear I've seen some lots that work like this, but maybe I'm imagining it.  The other thing you could do is use the street trees from whatever street tree mod the user has installed.  Andreas gave me the information how to do that in my Lot Editor thread.  I can get you a link if you want.  The main thing you need to know for doing that is to use prop family 0xFF5F8400.  Otherwise, you can't go wrong with seasonal trees.

Love how this looks...about the trees...why not make at least 1 1x1 straight that has the type of tree family the others do not? that way if you make the whole set seasonal..there is 1 1x1 lot that has a evergreen tree family as hell. Also when you release these puppies I plan to relot the sidewalks to match all wealth types for the JRJ sidewalk mod I use. No point in only having such a lovely sidewalk widening set for just one wealth type for my uses.

Thanks for all those comments! Right now I don't have much time to answer all of them, sorry ()sad()
Here are some changes I made.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg36.imageshack.us%2Fimg36%2F5933%2Fnewcityoct1800125499119.jpg&hash=83b61735963adaf5b93afe0f70097889188007c5)
On the upper row are the evergreen versions of the sidewalk lots. And on the lower, as you can see, are the seasonal versions ;D I removed the prop family and put a maple tree instead which is differently rotated on each lot to give some variety. I think it looks better than before. :)
Here's something else I've been working on - I relotted some of the Maxis parks.
First is the large plaza (to the right is the original one, I use a mod that replaces the original trees with CPs, that's why there aren't any palms :P)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F8291%2Fnewcityoct1800125499123.jpg&hash=b0d17315181866db15aca47f702a4f3a64d21142)
Below is the medium plaza. Although I've removed all tree props in LE, there are still two unwanted trees ???
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg2.imageshack.us%2Fimg2%2F1097%2Fnewcityoct1800125499121.jpg&hash=914d07dc7b9e5002a25ccffdfcdad4fdb791c054)
And here is the small plaza. I made two versions - one with a random prop (like on the original one) - fountain, clock... and the second version is with a tree instead of that random prop.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg62.imageshack.us%2Fimg62%2F9205%2Fnewcityoct1800125499179.jpg&hash=9751cb3823eb0bb4de02209ee9b1adb505bd956a)
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Maybe those are flora props, or trees inside a prop family with bushes and such?

That's great work, Ioan  &apls. Once you release these, they'll go straight into the good ole plugins. I agree with SimNation that it would be nice to have filler lots matching the different wealth types, though.

Just keep those great relots coming  ;)!

Excellent work, Ioan. Those reloted maxis parks are awesome and really more realistic than the originals ones. The idea of 2 different versions, is a good touch to put out the repetition in the future city's parks.
As for the sidewalk enlarge lots, I think you should leave as the lower part of the picture show, with different angle of the same trees, but seasonal, that's a good point. I don't really like with the evergreen one, looks too monotonous for my taste.
Can't wait to test them... (If you want eh..)
-Arthur.

Sciurus - Well, this should me a Maxis prop family ;)
Andreas - They're not in the flora tab (I checked it), I'll try with removing the bushes.
WC_EEND - Thanks!
ponnie - Thank you, I still have to make the icons for these and to mod them... this is quite boring, especially because they're 24 lots (4 sidewalk types x 2 types of trees x 3 lots ???)
art128 - Thanks, my friend.

Here are two new (re)lots I'd like to show ya.

What I'm interested in are your re-lots of Marrast's (spell check on that one?) embankment set. I noticed them in your MD. I like the nicer looking trees. I would try and make my own except I'm new at the LE and don't know names for props and such.

Since it's summer time here for me as well, I thought for my first project using the LE, I'll redo NDEX ITS HSRP Terminus Station (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22760) by ill tonkso. It doesn't have enough surrounding props and detail. I'll open it up in LE and see what i can do with it.

*blows off the dust*
It's been quite a while since I last posted here so I thought I should revive this tread ::) Thanks everyone for the comments so far but I'm afraid everything was lost when my HDD failed last year. That's why I decided to remake some of the things I was working on previously. (the two texture bugs in the first pic are already fixed)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg31.imageshack.us%2Fimg31%2F4572%2Fbusterminuslarge.jpg&hash=ed9cd9fc4459ff3863e3ca6cbe096a1fab0f467b)

I also made a couple of tram depots largely inspired by Dantes' ones (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=802.msg404158#msg404158). I'll probably change the base textures to either asphalt or cement ones.
