thundercrack83

I've been thinking about this for a while, however, I must admit that the idea to open a thread for this only hit me today, for some reason or another...I see a lot of different names or "nicknames" or whatever their official name is, and I was wondering what they mean. So, I've started this topic as a place where, if you so desire, you can give a quick explanation as to what your nickname means, stands for, etc. And, I guess I'll be the first:

thundercrack83: "Thundercrack" is the name of one of my favorite songs by Bruce Springsteen, written and recorded in 1973, but previously unreleased until 1998. The "83" was just as random number tagged onto the end.

What about you?

Tarkus

Well, mine's also music-based.  "Tarkus" is the name of the second album by the progressive rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP), released in 1971.  It's also the name of the weird armadillo/tank creature depicted on the cover (and in my avatar), which is (abstractly) the subject matter of the 20-minute long title track.

ELP is one of my favorite bands, and while Tarkus actually isn't my favorite album of theirs (their debut edges it out for me), the cover is probably my favorite album cover of all time.

Strechnitz has a complicated history. I read a book about Leibnitz for history. And had a boyfriend who was german and his surname was Streichen. one of my first cities was named Strechnitz as a composite of bot. And when I decided to start an MD I fished that name out of my minds archive ;D to make it the capital. so when I registered for SC4D It was the first (decent) thing that came to mind. :D

Vario80

#10
Hmm mine came from my former addiction of playing Super Mario Bros on my old (and still functioning) NES system.
Since i thought Mario, sounded rather uncool as a screenname, i used the name of the bad guy Wario and made simwario on it (which is also my nickname on some other sites). But since most people refered to me shortly as wario or vario, i decided to use that as a screenname here and added the 80 as the extension, since i thought "Vario" was already taken.
And 1980 is my birthyear, so that's why i have chosen Vario80  ;)

Indeed there are some very original names and their method of creation.

Mine evolved from my love of Tea. Somebody called me it one day at work and I thought to myself that's a cool moniker. One day when browsing the web I found the avatar I was going to use from that day on. Those of you who have been here from the start have seent he subtle changes that have occurred :D

My first name is Derry and in Gaelic is (Diarmuid pronounced Deeerr-moud). This means "Freeman" or "Man free from Evil" both which are especially fitting. I have always been a free spirit forging my own path especially with all the cycling I do! :D

praiodan

Praiodan is derived from Praios, the godfather, god of light, sun and justice in the 12-gods pantheon of the fantasy world Aventurien. It's quite a common name in that world which is the major showplace of the german pen&paper roleplay game Das Schwarze Auge.
So to say, Praiodan means: The man believing in Praios  ;)

Krio

Bengt comes from Swedish ice-hockey coach Bengt-Åke Something, my friend invented it because I have a Swedish last name so he was thinking that I should have Swedish first name also. No need to mention, that alcohol during that ice hockey match "helped" him to get that name for me  ;D

My other nick Krio comes from Sony's robot QRIO.
