Great work and very creative use of the seawalls. &apls
I have to agree with nbvc, great use of the seawall.
And great pic too.
Robin
beautiful
Oh man... your island is gorgeous, one of the best I have seen so far here... The overview is &hlp ...
I really think you should rework that village which is not the best, and this could be a real masterpiece (If its not already one...)
Just forget the SAM and Maxis roads here, using Yann's technique for the roads in Corsica, and maybe reworked some LOTs...
Anyway, this is amazing ! :)
Great start on your MD &apls Great islands and I love all the paths and the beach
It's been a long time since my last post, but it doesn't mean that i wasn't playing. i continued with the island of vale which takes longer than i thought. but here's a little teaser! ;)

thanks to: daveN, kergelen, noahclem, chester, robin, willy & wanngeelondon, i really appreciate your nice comments!
to nbvc: thanks for making those nice seawalls - easy to use in so many ways ;)
to Ol.S / Benoit: first of all, thank you for your critique. i have to admit the city is not the best and it could be more realistic. i'm still learning how to rework lots and i promise i'll be better in future. ;) I really like Yann's technique, its truly stunning and i was thinking about doing it the same way. but after a long time i decide to play the classic way. i wanted to build a region that interacts the way maxis once wanted it to. unfortunately that force some cosmetical issues :(
Update 2: Vale (Pt. I)

This time we explore the western part of Vale. Vale is a rocky small island located north of Saint George Island. Scientists believe that Vale was once part of the Bellean main island before it detaches during the last ice age.
Let's start in Cliffton with its ~20m high cliff coast called "Stairways" by locals.

Next update gonna be huuuuge! ;)
Great looking teaser.
In your last update, I really like it a lot. The harbor is very realistic. I love the way the land is under waterand how the sand has built up over the years on the right hand side of the pier and yet the left side is protected and still very deep. Great work and fore sight. The only thing I think stands out is the black tar road leading out to those last few house at the end of the penensula. I would have like to have seen the grey road with the dirt sides from the SAM collection.
Other than that, a very enjoyable visit.
Robin &apls
It's very nice pics... I'm waiting for more, because you have great potential.

Really nice Md here! I love islands, especially the overview in the last update is brilliant! Also the villages are wonderful. Keep it on!
Greetz, Carl
That ferry port is amazing. I always wondered, why there are no realistic ferry ports available. I am currently working on one in Lot Editor, but this one is already much better than what I came up with.
Oh Wow that is beautiful. you should release that when you're done! Like Rick said, I have always wanted a realistic ferry.
Still a big fan of your islands ! Can't wait to see the next one :)

Hi, very nice images! &apls
Two comments:
- Maybe a bit too much garbage bins on the otherwise very nice detailed parking lots.
- Also I think you should do something about the Gascooker sheds. They overlap and sometimes I see a streetlight in between the sheds.

Oh wow! That last picture is amazing! The row of houses fits perfectly the mood of the picture. Excellent work!
Very nice road textures behind spa's buildings, did you make it yourself? Not too sure about the stone path crossing the road though.
In addition, if you're familiar with the reader you might want to edit the dock walls to get rid of the shadows (set 'is ground model' to false).
The stone path on the road is really a bit strange. I suppose it is to slow cars down to make safer to cross the road?
Otherwise, awesome work. &apls
Amazing LE work ! So much efforts for that small area, docks are always hard to make. :)
Also, I still try to find a nice texture to fit maxis roads, like you did, is this one your own creation or can I find it somewhere ?
Keep it up ! ;)
Hey guys, i just want to reply quickly....
FrankU: you're right. the lots were a bit "over-trashbined" so i changed it, hope its better now. same with Gascooker sheds. ;)
Arthur: thank you. i hope your computer is okay again and you could save your data, it would be a shame if everything's lost!
Raphael: On one hand the stone path was suppose to slow down cars, on the other hand it was suppose to be a part of a former path connecting the city and the beach that was saved form being replaced by a street. does it make sense? ()what()
vortext: thank you. yes it did it myself - thanks for the hint with the reader, I'll give it a try.
Ol.S / Benoit: thanks for appreciating my work! the texture's my own creation. i create the pieces i needed by now only. if there is popular demand i could finish the set - even if i got no idea how to make a real road texture &mmm
Edit: I decide to not leave you without a new picture and a question:
is there a 22,5° wall existing to cover the space between the street on the left and buildings?

Arthur: thank you. i hope your computer is okay again and you could save your data, it would be a shame if everything's lost!
It is, it is! I'm writing from it at the moment! I first thought it was a Hard Drive failure, as each time I enter my session, the computer freeze and don't allow me to do anything. It was just my inexperience in this domain that was up. But I realized it was just a very bad virus. I just entered in safe mod, this way the virus wasn't effective, and did a two days system restore, that way no more virus. That was easier than I thought. :)
Can't wait to see what you have for us next. ;)
Edit - Nice looking teaser! I see you think about each little details, that's incredible! Your work reminds me of Dan's city which was lotted just like yours. :)
And no, sorry i don't know any 22.5° walls.. &mmm
Great job with the new textures, though they could use a bit more wear and tear. ;)

Yes there are, though most are not that tall, you may want to check out CP vol 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1180) and Namspopof 1 (http://www.toutsimcities.com/downloads.php?view=1780) & 2 (http://www.toutsimcities.com/downloads.php?view=1882).
Very nice road texture :)
Did you made them?
Great job with the last teasers &apls I especially like the way you create your shorelines. Just a suggestion, but they might look even better if you reduced the water's transparency. The road textures look nice too
Sad announcementHey guys!
To put it in a nutshell, i have a big problem with diagonal edges. With vortexts help (thanks again) I could change the cliff textures back to what it was before. Unfortunately even deleting folder after folder didn't help and i couldn't find out what exactly cause the diagonal edges. That's the current state of play.
As you all know big parts of my MD take place on islands and / or next to coastlines, because of this I decide to not continue with my MD as far as i could not get rid of these ugly edges, simply because i can't deliver the result i want too.
I'm grateful for all your support & help. If you got any hint that could solve the d/e problem feel free to contact me.
Replies
Arthur: I'm trying my best ;)
Vortext: You're right they could use a bit more dirt.
Terring7: Thank you. Yes i did.
Noah: Thank you. I did change the water mod anyways, still not satisfied but getting closer.
That´s really sad to hear as Your work was looking really good with lots of time spent with the LE I suppose.
As for the diagonal edges between water and land I discovered that reverting back to the "vanilla" terrainmod helped.
The problem for me proved to be the terrainmod (I used Cycledogg´s modd at the time), not the watermod (Pegasus).
It worked for me, but not necessarily for others...
I hope You can find a way to overcome the problem as I love coastal and Island MDs.
You couldn't get rid of the edges even with additional terraforming? That's too bad ()sad()
RepliesSwesim: Thanks for the hint, I gave it a try but it didn't work for me. &mmm
vortext: Additional terraforming just worked in some of cases. Indeed it's bad ()sad()
Teaser V / Back in Clover

Really nice mosaic!
From the beach to the flats uphill it's all looking good.
I like the stairs leading to the upper flat. I think adding a stair from the lower one would look good too. ( Also quite a lot of people around the flats. )
Glad to see you haven't given up alltogether!
Lovely mosaic, the lot detailing is superb! The walkway is also very nice and so realistic, did you make it yourself? If so, great job! If not, mind telling where I could find it? ;D
This is a great teaser !
And like Arthur, I love the stairs :)
Nice work on seamlessly adding in great details!
Oh yes, that's great. I really like how the parking lot is only 1/3 filled up. And I, too, am wondering whether the staircase is available somewhere.
Cheers
Willy
Great mosaic &apls
Problem with diagonal beaches and extra cliffs have to do with a property in your terrain mod. Unfortunately I can't remember which one. Did you get a new terrain mod? Or make a change to your old one? This is something that should be possible to solve.
EDIT--it's the property that controls when cliffs show up. My Reader is acting screwy so I can't tell the actual name right now.
Great mosaic. &apls
Yes, beautiful mosaic. &apls
The parking lots are interesting and the stairs fits perfectly on the slope
If your problem is the diagonal edges on the beaches have a look here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=14673.0).
Teaser VI
Hey Guys, thanks for all your comments you're amazing! &apls I gonna answer to all of you next time.

Nice town. &apls
The BAT could be part of a bridge or a ferry terminal.
You have me intrigued. I am curious now.
Looks like a ferrylanding in the making...
RepliesArthur: Thank you! I was thinking of one leading to the lower one too but it doesn't look as good as I thought. I haven't give up yet. You're right, too many people around there.
Vortext: Thanks! I did it myself - one of my first "BAT's" ;)
Swordmaster: Thank you. No, they're not available - yet ;)
Noahclem: Thanks a lot. Vortext gave me that hint too, it got better but far away from perfect but thanks anyway. The link Kergelen posted looks very promising.
Kergelen: Thank you. These stairs were made to fit exactly that slope, that's one reason why I think it would make no sense to release them. The link looks promising - maybe my english is too bad, but i'm not sure i get it right &mmm
Swesim: You will see soon ;)
Ol.S / Benoit, Schulmanator, nbvc : Thank you! :)

Thumbs up for realistic ferry ports.
I can't wait to see the whole ting.
Some interesting cars around here. Also those light poles are great.
Is it really a ferry terminal? Because it looked like the Shuttle area in Dover.. hmm :)
What a fantastic MD! I really enjoyed the last pages!
Congratulations on your OSITM :)
Oooh, nice use of those vip cars in that pic :)
Congrats on the OSITM! &dance
Congratulations on the OSITM. Really well deserved. And I really feel with you concerning the BAT-Problems. This Program has its life of its own... ;)
Great teaser....made all the better with the whispers of sea mist!
RepliesWallasey: Thanks you.
Rambuckel: Thanks - Congratulations to your OSITM! &apls Indeed, gmax's driving me insane :angrymore:
Sunv123: Thank you. Indeed I love those vip cars.
Framly: Thanks!
Art128: Thank you Arthur. Those cars are vip cars, those floodlights are from rfy. Maaaaan, now you got me - it's not a recreation but inspired by Dover Ferry Port. ;)
RickD: Thanks, here you got to see the whole thing. ;)
Thanks to the OSITM committee choosing me for the site's anniversary month. I'm very proud and I hope you gonna like this months updates!
Now, it's time for a new *drumroll* teaser - kidding - update! $%Grinno$%
Update IV: Clover Ferry PortLet's start with with the entrance (make sense doesn't it? :D):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg202.imageshack.us%2Fimg202%2F9249%2Fcloseup1r.jpg&hash=9716a022b30dd482c7473b692766d2874b18e3de)
The red building in the upper left corner is the ports fire department. Beneath it you can see a blue building,
it's the entrance building with duty free shops, a restaurant and border control for pedestrians.
In the middle you can see the ports administration building and car border control.
Next I want to show you a little close up of two landing stages.

Update V: The missing Link
Hey guys,
This time I want to show you the area between Clover Ferry Port and "Clover Marina Hotel" (the tall grey building shown in Teaser V (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=14418.msg435253#msg435253)).
Starting at Clover Port:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg840.imageshack.us%2Fimg840%2F8982%2F66623093.jpg&hash=eeb67d431e8b87088393d0f6a898b0f2d028fc03)

As I mention before, the blue building is the entrance building, the red one is the ports fire department, the grey one on the left is the Port Motel, a small low wealth motel perfect for travelers who have to stay over night.
As we move on, we pass an artwork (the two intertwining rings symbolize Bellenys good commercial relations to europe), another low wealth hotel and some commercial buildings.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg856.imageshack.us%2Fimg856%2F5032%2F24791857.jpg&hash=a1d9ededeeb15e95a30a23263bd7d64fa63130a8)
Following the road to the south we're heading Clovers Seaside Shopping Mall.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg685.imageshack.us%2Fimg685%2F1456%2F62686989.jpg&hash=022e047884efd79f4a63bf94ed7c6b28ed3b32c1)

Finally before we reach Clover Marina Hotel, we pass the ruin of Clovers former townhall. It was destroyed by the big storm surge in 1921.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg842.imageshack.us%2Fimg842%2F7230%2F15522077.jpg&hash=c4337b3fdce7c26c8bc24bb9959a45f36b1f3a77)
Last but not least: Overview (http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/575/overviewrg.jpg)! ;)
Adrian
Great job, but I think there's something wrong with the seawalls in the fourth pic. Also, the port area looks a little empty. &mmm
Still great job though, like the diagonal buildings. :)
That's one awesome ferry port! &apls
I wonder though, is it functional? And if so, are you planning to release it? There aren't that many ferries so it would be a welcome addition. ;)
Quote from: sunv123 on November 17, 2012, 05:04:57 PM

Yes indeed there is. The walls still cast shadows while they're part underground, resulting in strange shadows all around. To turn the shadows off, open the prop exampler file with the Reader and set
Is Ground Model propery to false (0x00).
Heh, you have one of the most pleasant styles of presentation that I know here. Simple but unique.
And then I'm not even talking about the actual images! Very nice, especially the overview. One thing strikes me, though: the water transparency is a little high, which I think is the reason you get that blocky view off the beach in picture 4.

I was wondering if you made those textures for yourself or the way you get them from somewhere? Although a small inaccuracies are decent good but I prefer the double solid line anyway
REPLIESJust a quick stop to answer your questions.

Also, the port area looks a little empty. &mmm
This particular area is empty because it's currently closed, as you can see in Update IV. ;)

That's one awesome ferry port! &apls
I wonder though, is it functional? And if so, are you planning to release it? There aren't that many ferries so it would be a welcome addition. ;)
Thanks! Yes and no. The boarding bridges themselves are functional as car-ferry-ports, but they don't work right because they have no connection to roads, i think this could be fixed with other lots.. ? &mmm

I think there's something wrong with the seawalls in the fourth pic.
Yes indeed there is. The walls still cast shadows while they're part underground, resulting in strange shadows all around. To turn the shadows off, open the prop exampler file with the Reader and set Is Ground Model propery to false (0x00).
Already fixed! ;D

Heh, you have one of the most pleasant styles of presentation that I know here. Simple but unique.
Thank you!

One thing strikes me, though: the water transparency is a little high [...]
Your right in case of Clover. Actually it's the only transparency you can slightly see my underwaterwork in update 1, 2 & 3.

I did! It's based on a concrete texture i found on a website but i reworked it and added those lines.
Awesome continued work on the port area &apls The overview is just great
Hey guys.
No teaser this time, but I want to show you my map and where my MD is gonna take us in future.
My region is about 73,7 km (45.3mi) X 32,7 km (19.8mi) big. Some of you will recognize it's shape I guess, don't you? ;)

1. Saint George Island
2. Vale
3. Clover
This map will be updated with every location we visit from now.
Hope you like it.
Not the worst region in the world to guess, no :P
You've done a really gorgeous job here, especially with the quaint streets and steps all around! But that ferry port... Is it available? That one is fantastic.
I think I recognize this place ;D Looks like your ferry terminal can be placed in its real life location
I'm not 100% sure, but I think I recognize it. Edited in case you want to reveal yourself. ;)
Looks like you have an interesting map to play at any rate. :)
Awesome work on your last update, nas-t! Sorry that I missed it. You did an awesome job with the diagonal area.
Interesting region overview. I think I guessed where it is, after all the shape is very distinctive. I think this is going to be a fun time building up this region. :)
That's a pretty nice map you're working on, rivers and flat land. Won't be challenging, but will he more options when building. :)
Happy playing. ;D
