Hi all!
I just realized that there is no topic for rivers and creeks, I couldn't find one anyway. I'd like to see how you all create these.
I'll get things started:

A creek that runs through this township. The culverts slow down the water so it pools up like you see.

Great stuff guys. I've taken a slightly different approach from the ploppable water for this:

Your picture is looking very beautiful, mattb325!
Nice lake(s) and river!
Wow, that looks great!
Ploppable water or in-game water? :P
Yea no kidding SA i was wondering that same thing, So matt which is it PW or In-game lol
Here's my guess--the top pre-waterfall bit is ploppable, the lower lake is ploppable, and the rest is in game (you can only see the waves there).
Toichus Maximus, I'm sorry i just saw your pic as well, Its very good IMHO it could also use some rapids flowage with those rocks there, just a thought but over all i likie - pat
Hmmm...which water did I use? Would a less edited close up help? :P
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi42.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe311%2Fmattb325%2FLongviewFallsclose.jpg&hash=75637fb5a226364bea9c8c771727edc9dbf07a18)
Well, Matt, it seems you made one of the best pictures (and one of the best jokes :D) I have seen from a long time ;)
It's an ingame water and you creates an illusion of the slope using really great arrangement (? :D)
Thanks, pat, I was checking out ennedi's new method (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2157.260)to making streams and I think I'll try to do something following that method next. his rapid system he suggests seems about right for that kind of small stream, so it might work better.
I don't think matt's pic is based on perspective--did you use the rain mod, perhaps?

Thanks guys - caused a stir, I see ;D
Nice pic ToichusM - the difference between it and your earlier one is amazing
Ennedi - I love your thinking and you are right about the SC4 perspecive being able to trick the eye. In this picture it did, but I used it to draw the two lakes (made with Gizmos' rain mod) closer to the sea, not make a flat surface appear at different levels...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi42.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe311%2Fmattb325%2FLongviewFallsLong.jpg&hash=44994a8a735e008063bf8f74dd824b812d0b31d2)
In reality the gap between each is huge and from this angle the scene is a) unfinished, and b) not so eye pleasing :P

I disagree, I love this pic.
The only problem with it is that it needs a stream to the sea; otherwise, I'd never say it is unrealistic and, even without that, there is no way you can construe it as "unpleasing"
That is a nice picture there, Toichus Maximus!
Great work on that mountain, mattb325! Wonderful new picture of that area!

Thank you too, Pat!
Quotetravis where did you get those telephone poles???

In LBT prop pack 1, that very same pack you often link to as a dependency. :P
You probably didn't find them because the prop names are all in spanish. $%Grinno$%
LoL Yuppers.... I mainly stick with flora and what nots but hey thanks for pointing that out ;) I really need to talk to heblem about getting the prop names translated for english...
Heh, it's a good thing I know some spanish, or else using all those wonderful props would be much more difficult. I had a feeling all the spanish courses they made us take back in middle school would come in handy at some point. :D
I adore the stream travis! Is that some Rural Renewal Project stuff I spy in there?
Travis - Wow! So much green.....Wou was on the mark when he mentioned that the telephone poles add realism to your scenic pics. A really nice job on those

I'll second what Robin said. The fourth one in particular just stands out; it almost seemed like a photo when I first saw it. Which trees are you using for these?

Well done, well done, very great work!!!
Those trees combined with the area (stream course, rocks) match fantastic together.
I'm getting enviously :P ;D
Jacqulina- very nice use of SimFox's trees... the rocks, trees and stream make a very nice combination. Very nice work!
Ahh, attention to detail, careful placement of assets, a hallmark of Jacqulina. I have always admired your work. As my own bent is scenery rather than urban, we connect here. Congrats.
thankyou everyone
Thanks for the information about the trees and the link as well.
you are very welcome my friend, glad to help.

It isn't a terrain mod, it'S a mixture of several plugins:
PEG PPond Terrain Props Pack 1http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22701
PEG PPond Kithttp://simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item993

BTW, what I'm missing desperatly is some ploppable water stuff to make the river more vivid, e.g. around the boulders ... if anyone could direct me to some stuff, that would be appreciated.
Rady - Wow! Amazing pictures! &apls &apls
The RRP Pasture Flora Pack has ploppable objects in it like the white wildflowers that give the illusion of extending out into the water. They might fit the bill for what you're trying to accomplish. Some of the ploppable rocks also work similarly.

Well, it isn't easy. You can try the waterfall effect from this set
JRJ Rural Culverts and Water Effects (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=125)
But it is difficult to merge it nicely with the ploppable water. I made something similar some time ago, you can see the stream with water rapids in my MD "Ennedi Plays Shosaloza" (updates 12, 13, 14). Another thing you can try are David's (dedgren) ploppable water rapids, but I don't know where to find a link for them. Maybe you should look at 3RR (I suggest you to find the Table of Content page :))
Adam
Here's another one I put together this morning:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi846.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fab21%2FShultzCity%2FSimcity%25204%2Fcoastline1.jpg&hash=08addaa027bf1fa3526e4ecbafadaddeb7030ac6)
SchultzCity, I like your use of ploppable stuff very much! Placing RRP grass both at the riverside and under water is a very good idea, it makes your coastline smooth and natural. I like also how do you merge various kinds of grass. Many people cover only a narrow coastline stripe by ploppable stuff and it looks unnatural. You cover larger areas by grass and you hide borders between ploppable and terrain texture very well!
This is a good method. Your pictures could be used as an example in the "Working with ploppable flora" tutorial :)
Also, nice and subtle photoshopping! ;)
Adam
Thanks Adam :)
I discovered the RRP grass a couple of weeks ago by accident. Slipped a bit, and it went right through water and some land, and it looked spectacular! It's my new favourite ploppable, and I use it everywhere now. I try and get the natural look by remembering 'layers'. Water > shoreline > scrubs / grass > scrubs / grass (I interchange these) > shrubby trees (to provide a marshy look) > small trees > and then finally larger, forest type trees.
You are more than welcome to use the pictures if you want to :)
I like to darken the image slightly in PS just to give a nice 'atmospheric' look, I find it adds a lot to the nature shots.
Thanks again :)
Jacob.
Thanks everyone for the encouraging response!
@ SeanSC4: Thanks for the hint ... although this wasn't what I meant ;), maybe I didn't make myself clear. I'm looking for the stuff that Ennedi mentioned that adds some turbulences, foam, ... to your water.
@ Floyidan: Once you assembled all this rural and flora stuff, it's just a matter of giving it a try. I strolled through the "Show us your ..." threads here and over at Simtropolis to get some ideas and most of all techniques. Then I played around for a while. Once you got the trick of how to combine these elements, it's easy. Just remeber to start with the small stuff and add the "areal" stuff like grass, bushes, .. at last. Another important part - likely done by ShultzCity also - is to cover not only the immediate surrounding, but a larger area with the grass to make it blend in with the game's texture.
@ Ennedi: Thanks for your links and advice. I already have JRJ Water Effects, but they don't fit in with the ploppable water. Or I should better say that I'm not capable to make proper use of them right now, of course :P. I will give it a try and search for Dedgrens ploppable rapids.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas! Hope you have Christmas weather where you live. Here we have sunshine and 10 degrees plus (Celsius, of course). The perfect weather for easter holidays ... if it weren't Christmas .... :P

Yes but how are you placing it in these spots, where the game normally doesn't allow you to place any flora? Are you just using the default SimCity terrain?

You're right, this is the normal maxis terrain. But you can cover even this parts if you use flora that spreads out, like the flowers from the Pasture Flora or PEGs bushes, like I used it below the little curve with the red car. They will cover a larger area. So if you place them right, you can cover some of the terrain where you cannot place something directly. The only side effect is that sometime you end up with some flora on the street .. you can see a "near miss" at the right end of the 90 degree curve.
ANd apart from that, I try to place my flora as close as possible to this "blocked" tiles by moving the cursor outwards from the street withthe mouse button pressed. Taht way you will plop flora at teh very first moment it's possible.
Alright time for one o' mine. This is the Praudenburg Creek in the heart of Aetrea. One of the headwaters is still on the surface, but the second has been burried and now exists as a shallow ravine park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg689.imageshack.us%2Fimg689%2F5061%2Fcapture26122009205219.jpg&hash=7572a87147cc65131cbcdfaabe5c69aaac8e084e)
As one moves further downstream into the suburban sprawl, the creek is less contaminated by growth, as laws passed in the 1930's established the remaining ravines as conservation areas.

Beautiful Rady - I think using more custom trees instead of maxis trees would make this look a lot better.
very nice Rady

I fully agree ... it's just that I plopped them using the "god" menu, and I haven't found a way to change the trees planted with that menu to something providing more variety ... I do have a lot of ploppable trees, but none that canbe spread covering whole areas like the god tool does ...
So here comes the "ShultzCity Special Version" ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg402.imageshack.us%2Fimg402%2F1374%2F14littlecreek4.jpg&hash=1788eed51a404d032ee29d2ff47bd6ee0d748799)
Nice pictures, but still prefer the first version. ;D
U can use CP trees in mayor mode, and have the same result with the God mod : just take much time to have a big forest :P
U can use the Peg's pine tree cluster, and have a huge forest (but u will have only one tree model)
$%Grinno$%
I prefer the amount of trees in the first version, but the type of trees in the second ::)
The Meadowshire Tree Controller is great. It uses different groups of trees for different altitudees (realistically of course), in god mode. It even creates little patches without trees, as in real life. It does not create very dense forest, however after 5 swipes, it does start to get fairly populated ;)
Give it a go, see what you think :)
I think your first version looked much better. Although you definitely want to check out different tree controllers, I think in this shot the maxis trees worked well, in that they were sparsely distributed and colour wise didn't distract from the main focus of the shot (which I'm assuming is the waterway). Try adding just a few more different trees, but leave some ground showing. Love your road and it's angles as well, very natural looking.

Went for the mountain shingle stream. Couldn't zoom in because of the HUGE ammount of wildlife really ruined the picture. Is there a mod or command to get rid of them?
nice picture :)
Well i think that nature (wildlife) will not ruine your picture ::), but will give a natural touch :D
For your question, sry &mmm no idea
Hint : don't forget the "G" button to get ride of those grids :P

I think you made the point! I have downloaded the Meadowshire Tree Controller right now and gonna give it a try tomorrow!
@ thingfishs: thanks! The way the road goes through the terrain was created nearly by accident, but I love that part, too!
nice variation on the theme trapmaka
As was said, hitting the g button is a must. Also you could do with a little more variety vegetation wise.
@ ShultzCity, thingfishs: Ok, I admit I was unable to create a natural looking little forest .... I have problems with using the "click-cycle" functionality of the meadowshire tree mod ... since this is off topic here, I created a ne thread in the "Playinge the game help" forum ... possibly yu can have an eye on that .. Thanks!
Very Nice Picture @ everyone!! &apls
Rady, where did you get the tall grass and the flowers from??? I see those flowers everywhere but can't find them ()what()
It's mostly from the Rural Renewal Project Flora by ChrisAdams. http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1886

No, I put it there to make it look good. ()stsfd()
getting geared back up and expect some goodies from me again ;)
@ Bernhard x's 2: First pic is great with the rail curving along the banks just perfect and the second pic love the dirt path as derry pointed out!!
@ Derry: real nice country setting there for sure and I love it!!!
@ Terring7: No worries bud about not having any light effect not all area's are bothered by light at night and it gives it a better feel of a deep backwoods effect...
@ Joshriddle577: got a nice pic overall there but I agree the bridge maybe nice but a little dangerous if you think about it lol... There are some other bridges out there I think would fit there better if your willing to try it out but otherwise not bad
Thanks for the suggestion.. I like the Stone arch one, that may work...

Yesterday I began a new superlittle Region, and first, after a little bit of terraforming I made some rivers and creeks and one bigger lake. Cause I´m not sure about this waterthing, I´ll post two pic´s. My intention was to have a more 3D-effect with flat zones and deeper ones, it´s not ready, only a try, a mix and match between different ploppable water. Tell me what You think about &mmm. How could I make it better?

Thats a really neat idea with the different water colors. You did a good job. The only thing that distracts me is the thin light blue line between the greenish and dark blue water. It does not blend in very well.
Thanks, RickD and tag_one,
but it was not my idea! I think ionionion was the man who showed first this mix´n match, but what he does is simply perfect. I saw this technique in his CJ on the other side, and now I´m infected ;D. But his quality is unbelieveable, mine is a try. I don´t Know, how to make it better, but want to learn.

Very nice. :) I like the use of the rail viaduct, I do that frequently with my rural scenes.
May I ask where you got the blue/white water with the rapids? ;D
Hi Dark_Jedi06. You may ask for sure. I'm actually batting a set of PW and the wild one is the first part. The blue is part 2 and there will be some more. I started betatesting together with some members of simforum two weeks ago, so You'll need some patience yet. Bu I'll do my best that it's gonna be worth it. ::)

I'm going to do some shopping with my mom now, and I'll explain this after getting back. ;)Ok, let's talk about it.
It's inspired by the rapid river used by Badsim in his outstanding MD AntigOne. I made many water textures and put them on 1*1 lots. Each lot has a unique texture, and they can be placed together smoothly in the game. After that, I plopped rocks in game. They covered the edges of each lot and became the river bank. Finally, the trees were planted. I used Simfox's trees becuase they can fill in the blank ground easily. ()stsfd()
I'm happy with the result so far, but there are still many things to do. I want to make more textures so they will look more randomly. Menu icon are also on my to-do list.
And.. Feel free to give any advice and suggestions ;)
wow, another great shot from jackxu :)
Woww, that is outstanding shot you got there, jackxu! I love those rapid textures of yours, and the way you've used SimFox's trees and those other MMPs is just beautiful! Gonna download those stream lots when you release them, really good looking they are! (yoda talk :])

Beautiful eufl. The only thing I would do is add some small bushes in between those trees. To fill in the swampy feel. And I love how you used the transparency of the water.

I agree with marsh, some bushes would help with the realism. And I love the crane. Good work :)
Tht's a lovely picture Eufl!
I have really been enjoying the glut of MMPs that have supplemented the old favourites.
I am constantly amazed by the fact that MMPs are now seasonal. If anyone hasn't downloaded Lowkee's seasonal patch (and then all of the other brilliant seasonal stuff that you can get as a result) I would seriously recommend searching for it on the LEX.

Thanx, Swordmaster. I miss the summer too. Maby it is because of our depressiv northern European weather I've started this region of inland, sunny and dry California?!
I use Google Earth a lot to get the "right" feel to it - there's just something fascinating about waterways in the dessert I recently found out.

The dabbling looks very familiar to me. ;)
Indeed. I figured they make my paltry layouts look a little more dramatic. And 'someone' *ahem* provided me with a quick way to place them.
It's a bit embarassing Vortext, cause I should have known. I hope I get some time over the weekend. Anyway, nice pic of yours ;)

Yup. I played around with them a bit. No images, but believe me: I am very happy with the streams. They are the perfect addition to Dutch scenery, and probably this is getting around for some time now.... but I have a weird preoccupation with Dutch content.
So Shaun, how could I thank you? OK, let's just ()flower()

Here is a beautiful lake, with flamingos, bears, foxes, tyrannosaurs, horses and falcons walking/flying around. No presence of infrastructures. No homes, no airplanes, no even a single road :)

Where can i find this terrainmod? I like it, and i like to use it for the Switzerland map i downloaded recently
Thanks for the kind words everyone I appreciate it. You're always so nice over here! ;D
Zwister, I think I know where you can find that mod. Give the resident exchange a try; the LEX. As well, it may be on toutsimcities.com as the Pyrenean Terrain Mod.
@ Bipin: I think i found a terrain mod more suitable for the Switzerland map: "Berner Oberland Terrain Mod" ;D But the one you suggested might be accurate also. Thank you for your awnser!

Thanks... well the MMP under bridge works pretty well in my case except that MMP cant be placed nearby the bridge columns also seems those MMP will create some kind of shadow bug (like in my picture)

yes I know that.... literally Ichikawa (the river itself) means 1st river while Mikawa (the city) means 3 river because the city itself have 3 rivers crossing: Ichikawa (一川), Nakagawa (中川), and Kasukawa (粕川)
I was a little bored with cities... So I downloaded a tree controller for the first time. Here is the first result ;)

I was up late last night MMPing this delta area. This was the first time I've ever really done a lot of MMPing (aka making your arm tired after holding the mouse button down for so long), but it turned out quite nicely:

All the MMPs I have in my menu were installed just because they happened to be dependencies for something else. I love it when dependencies actually give you something useful! ()stsfd()
Decent result for first time trying your hand with mmps!
Here's my first time actually getting a decent result with RFR plop water.

That's better than most of my attempts, you've done a fine job if you ask me .
I, for one, am very impressed. &apls
No suggestions, but mostly because I am inept with MMPs. Maybe Art has some words, but they will probably be few.
Transition looks really nice &apls &apls
Very good work, very smooth transition. Especially because placing the RFR plopwater underwater allows covering the ugly beach frequently being seen in shallow underwater areas. Good concept, maybe I'll copy that :) You might only refrain from using grass underwater, this doesn't look realistic to me, but other than that, this was a good job.
Holy crap :o I only saw this because of the K-point--amazing &apls
Just need to figure out why it doesn't look like that when I do it :D
That transition is soon smooth :P
