Hello Warszawa, It's very nice you started your MD here!  :thumbsup:

Maybe there will be nothing bad if I'll make a little explanation for those who don't know our new friend - Warszawa is from UK, but he lives in Warsaw now and he said on the Polish site - Simcity Polska - that he likes this city very much. It is very nice for us in Poland  :)

Warszawa, your pictures are very good! It was a very good idea to show your historical pictures in the B&W mode, you can experiment with this way of editing a bit more. Very nice couple of buildings - some of them are probably from a bit later period, but it would be extremely difficult to collect enough buildings in the style of these days. Anyway, the general feeling is very apropriate.
All pictures are good, but I especially like the last one.

Good luck and a good playtime here at SC4D!  :thumbsup:
Adam

callbat – Cheers mate. Yes, I know, it was very hard to find some BATs at that time... :(
jrhnemo – Thanks! I got most of the wonderful BATs from SimCityPolska - A Polish Sim City 4 website! :P
kbieniu7 – Hey mate! Good to see you! For the answer for your question : No, I don't have any BATs for that street, I don't even know if there is anyways. Although I have walked down that street; I can barely remember what it looked like... What is so special about that street anyways?
tankmank - Thanks very much tankmank. Hopefully you will enjoy the updates till the present day Warsaw update.

UPDATE 3

Name of Update = Saxon Palace
Location = Downtown Warsaw
Date = 1924
Population = 1.1 million

The Saxon Palace (Pałac Saski) was one of the most distinctive buildings in prewar Warsaw.

sauron620 - Hey, Im really glad that you liked that update! It is one of my favourites updates that I have shown.
bat - Cheers! I love photo editing; its quite fun actually when you get the hang of it. Thanks for the nice comment.
kbieniu7 - Is the Parliamentary buildings the Sejm of the Republic of Poland that you were thinking?
callbat - It was a real shame that the Palace was destroyed. Actually, the architects in Warsaw at the moment are thinking of rebulding the Saxon Palace in the exact posistion it was in 70 years ago. Thanks very much for that kind comment mate.
Pat - Glad to hear it :D Thanks very much for an enthusiastic comment as always mate.

UPDATE 4

Name of Update = Flats Districts
Location = Downtown Warsaw
Date = 1925
Population = 1.1 million

Warsaw has historically been a destination of internal and foreign immigration, especially from Eastern Europe. For nearly 300 years it was known as the Paris of Eastern Europe. Demographically it was the most diverse city in Poland, with as much as 20% of its population being either Jewish Poles or foreign born.

World War II changed all of this, and to this day there is much less ethnic diversity than in the previous 300 years of the city's history. Most of the modern day population growth is based on internal migration and urbanization.

Nice updates, and making them b/w giving them a special touch!  :thumbsup:

I just have a problem with the railway (well, that's where I am really picky, you know ... ;) ) - I think you used railway as tramway - but why do you use the GLR there? I don't think that the PKP before the wall didn't put their railway on dams or made them sunken to avoid those numerous level crossing in dense urban ares ...

Take care and don't forget to make backups!

sauron620 - Thanks! Although I am basically only showing the inner city areas, I guess that the pictures show that they are likely to be the suburbs so yeah... lol. Glad you liked the update.
tankmank - Im really glad that you are liking this CJ. I have plently of updates to keep you entertained! :D
Nardo69 - I really like photo editing - it really brings out the realism. I have to admit - yes - I did use the rail way instead of tram way. You see, when I started building Warsaw, I didn't have the GLR downloaded at the time, and I had already shown updates with out it... After the WW2, I will definately use GLR. Thanks for a nice comment.
kbieniu7 - You are very right actually, I will definately put that into consideration when Im making the 'flats' districts :)
callbat - Yes - I will continue to show more updates until we reach the WW2. From there, I will show you the rebuilding of the capital and how it got back to life again. Yes, I will use GLR when construction after the war takes place. Glad you liked it! :D

UPDATE 5

Name of Update = Prudential Building
Location = Downtown Warsaw
Date = 1929
Population = 1.2 million

During the period of 1918, after Poland regained her importance, Warsaw was in a difficult position. The city had fallen into decline during the chaos of the war years. The first half of the 1920's, there was virtually no new construction. Building activity picked up in the second half of the decade, only to come to a halt after the Wall Street crash in 1929, when economic crisis set in. Yet it was during the brief period that monumental government offices were built, the steel frame of the Prudential Building - the tallest skyscraper in pre-war Poland - became a fixture on the Warsaw skyline...

Anything fits together, old and new. I even got myself a bit used to that railway as tramway (even though I still don't like it ... )

oh! I missed three updates!
1st update: Stalinist's buildings integrate very well with the city.
2nd: the park is very good  :thumbsup:, but the parks you put are the same, and in my opinion i has not a good effect.
3rd: very realistic  &apls

Hi there,

You have an interesting MD here.  I'm not 100% sure that the black and white pics are to my taste, but I understand why you do it.  The sepia/brown toned pic is much more to my liking  :) .  Love the blocks of flats in the update 7 - great district there.  And the traffic jams on the streets add realism to your city.

It would be nice to see an overview to understand how it all fits together.

One suggestion - get rid of the arrows on the one-way streets, it will make them look much better.

I'll make sure I check in again.

Very nice shots of a pre-war Warzawa my friend... very nice. I love it that you use the black-white pictures, it makes exactly this MD outstanding from others.

Indeed as above mentioned by Paul, you should use the mod that reduced the one-way arrows. (Compare my city via the link in my signature: almost all roads that you see in the center are one-ways, but you hardly see arrows.)

And I think you should not remove the catenaries on the rail/tram track...they look to big and make to big black spots in the black&white pictures...

Your housing choise is however compensating for all the above - so if you keep all as it is now, it are still wonderfull pleasant pictures... :thumbsup:

Nardo60 - Hello Bernhard! Good to see you. Very glad to hear that you enjoyed the update. See you soon in the SC4 Picture Competition soon :P.
sauron620 - Thanks so much sauron620, a very nice comment indeed. I will try and make the parks more 'different' when I make them next time :).
Paroch - I am overwhelmed to hear that you liked the update Paul, I will be showing some overviews just before the update of the war, hope you can wait that long. Once the war updates have finished, I will then be showing you roads without the arrows, so fear not. I just hope you can put up with it until then :D.
Pat - Hey! Glad you like the soccer picthes, do you play soccer mate?
sebes - Cheers so much for that enthusiastic comment Sebes. I try my best in photoshopping. As I said to Paul, after the updates of the war, when Warsaw is being reconstructed - I will then use the one way streets without arrows mod. I will try my nest to show you the 'pleasant' pictures! :D
tcx - Thank you. It is indeed a very nice pleace to visit, I hope you will enjoy the updates soon to come.
thundercrack83 - Hey Dustin man, I'm throughly glad that you enjoyed that update. More is here! Hope to see you again.

UPDATE 8

Name of Update = Transportation in Warsaw

Looking good  - I love how you are always able to catch the positive nostalgic feelings of old picture in your screens.

BUT

there is something I don't like here at all - the Maxis Grand Railway Station. I am not one of those who always scream against Maxis content but THAT LOT IMHO is just ... bah ...  ?$%kar&%h

If I can make you some suggestion as there are quite some nice big stations available, I made you an incomplete(!) list:

Somewhere there is also a mod that turns the Maxis station into a useful two track RR station but the original lot is really *censored*

Please don't ruin your great pictures with such a bugged crap!

Take care  and don't forget to make backups

UPDATE 9

Name of Update = City Facades
Location = Warsaw
Date = 1930
Population = 1.3 million

In the 1930's, Warsaw experienced something of a construction boom. Now, in addition to housing estates, luxury apartment buildings were being put up. Run-down shops were transformed into modern European salons with gleaming windows. At nights, the main streets were bathed in neon. In cafes, restaurants and dance halls, the hum of conversation could be heard well into the night and huge crowds flocked to the theatres and cinemas.

Ah yes, I like those two updates a lot.

The mix of old and new buildings works very well.  And in the second update I adore the graffiti/art on the side of the building in the second picture - very nice.

And I like the way the rails run next to the road in the first pic - oh yes.

And of course I will wait for the arrows to be removed - your MD is taking great shape, a few one way arrows are not enough to keep me away.

I look forward to more,

UPDATE 10

Name of Update = Outer City Overviews

For the Jewish community, too, Warsaw was a centre of culture, with many events being staged in Yiddish. A key figure in the city's development was a long-time mayor, Stefan Starzynski (1893 - 1944), whose far-sighted urban projects were being implemented well into the post-war years.

The city looks great, but for the love of God, please get a OWR removal mod. :P (oh yeah, I just read up there in your comment to paroch that you're gonna get rid of them after the 14th update... a relief :P)

It ruins the mood of some of the pictures...

But hey, it looks great. Do you use the Lot Editor to change some of the lots around so they fit in better with what you're looking for? If you don't, why not give it a try?

UPDATE 11

Name of Update = City before WW2
Location = Srodmiescie
Date = 1938
Population = 1.2 million

The Jewish population of Warsaw is 270,000 or about a third of the city's inhabitants. Freed in 1918 from the yoke of the partitioning powers, Warsaw has become a vibrant metropolis, where the arts and innovation flourish and where the Jewish intelligentsia forms an intrinsic and vital part of the avant-garde. At the same time, Warsaw is also, to a large extent, a bilingual city where knowledge of Yiddish, the language spoken by East European Jews, is sufficient to allow one to shop, study, work and enjoy the theater. In short, it is a center of both Polish and Jewish culture.

Hi Alex,

I missed a few updates - sorry about that.

And seeing the "before, during and after" updates altogether makes a BIG impact.  The city WAS looking good, and whilst the grainy black and white means you can't see much in the way of detail, you can certainly see your city building skills for sure.

And your explosions captured the destruction well.

So, what happens now.  I know i'm not the only one looking forward to the re-build.

Update 15

Name of Update = Warsaw is Liberated (1)
Location = Warsaw District.

Population = 400,000

On 17th January 1945, the Red Army entered the deserted ruins of Warsaw and reconstruction of the city began almost immediately. Along the main roads and routes, historic buildings were rebuilt from scratch – a remarkable achievement by any standards.

Hey Alex, I like the update.  Great construction lots there.  Did you custom lot them yourself?

And in pic one - where did you get those portakabins?  I was looking for something like that just the other day to use.

Funny to think that from this rubble there will emerge a football team that will enter an international tournament one day ;)

Oh, and I hope they build a piccalilli factory to feed the people of Warsaw!

take care,

Paroch - Paul! No, I didn't custom lot them myself, I used the pedestrian tiles on top of the original base. I have sent you a private message regarding the portakabins my friend. One of the updates soon to come will show you the base of a large stadium soon to be built. I'll make sure there is a Piccalili factory built somewhere in Warsaw to feed the residents. Lets hope they will be happy and wont get stick of the smell, or they will move to West End - home to where Piccalili is not seen at all, well maybe at Piccadilly stadium, hehe. :D
rhythmandjays - It shall commence! Thanks for the lovely comment my mate.
Schulmanator - Hey, pleased to meet you Schulmanator. That's a brilliant compliment from you my friend. I've only been to Warsaw once and I loved it. I will start on the old town when I go on Sim City 4 the next time. Thanks.

Update 17

Name of Update = Prudential Building
Location = Srodmiescie Warsaw
Date = 1945
Population = 400,000

The hotel was rebuilt over the stripped framework after World War II, but the style was changed from early modern to neo-classical to reflect the new times that had come.
Prudential was the tallest example of early modern architecure in Warsaw before it was rebuilt following World War II. The present tallest early modern high-rise here is Ministerstwo Infrastruktury.

Take a look at the tower before the war...

mrtnrln - I shall contniue indeed. But in this update - we will see the environs of Warsaw, just having a break from the city.
Simpson - Hey my friend. Hope you are well. I'm glad to hear such a lovely compliment from you my friend.
rushman5 - Hey Rushman5, welcome to Warsaw. I dont use the LOT editor at all, I just use many of the pedestrian tiles on top of the bases of the buildings. The workers have done a tremendous job re-building this area of Warsaw. Almost any resident helped out with the rebuilding of Warsaw.

Hi Alex,

I like those last two updates there.  You're doing a great job on the re-construction of Warsaw.  I always enjoy looking at construction pictures (probably because I cannot do them very well!)

And interesting to hear you have a role in a short film - good luck with that I hope it goes well for you.

Hi Alex,

Yes, I liked them alot.  Very nice work on them, no hints of joins and nicely photoshopped, it gives a nice glow without over-doing it.

The farms are very square and gridlink, certainly not what I'm used to seeing in England but I have flown over similar layout in Calgary, Canada, so I know they do exist.

Great stuff here.

Even though I grew up in the northern Black Forrest where trees are common on fields (Streuobstwiesen) there are sometimes a bit too much trees on the fields - especially on those that are not plain green fields.

Despite than that: presentation is superb!

One question: Which tree controller did you use for the wood on the bottom of the first pic? I am never satisfied with my woods but that wood looks great!

Take care and don't forget to make backups!

Bernhard  :thumbsup:
