I was surprised that there was no place to show our bridges in this section. Bridges are not only useful engineering objects (to solve traffic problems), but they are often an important element of the landscape. So I decided to open this topic.
There are some good reasons to do it:
In first, building bridges is sometimes difficult - both in RL and in SC4. It needs vision to design (see Millau viaduct, Akashi bridge), knowledge and patience to execute. Many of us can learn a lot seeing other's work.
Also, there are some new amazing bridges in the LEX. Some of them have specific limitations. Different bridges look good in different surroundings.
I would be good to see these fantastic creations working in SC4.
Today I present a bridge from one of my older cities (spring 2006). Nothing special, but I like it and it explains my intention. I don'develop this region yet, because it was my first region and my Plugins folder wasn't organized at all (and it reached 2,5 GB). So I decided to organize my plugins in a new way and I will start a new region. But I think I will make MD with some random pictures from the old one.
Cheers
Ennedi

flame1396, you found very interesting place for your scenic bridge, Also, there is a good piece of scenic road above it.
It would be good to see it again after some development of this area.
I like also your junction island and the peninsula. All area is very well planned.
Today I'd like to show a bridge from Blue Coast city (Aurina Bay region):

Great picture of that bridge, sEAhAwk fAn121!
EDIT: Had posted these before... oops
Two very nice picture of that bridges, flame1396
Ennedi,
On June 8th, you posted an interesting photo. I an refering to the last one in the set. In the upper left hand corner the road goes through the mountain. What is the structure ovr the road on both sides of the tunnel? It looks like some sort of glass cover over the road. Inquiring minds want to know.
---Gaston
sEAhAwk fAn121, beautiful image! &apls
I like its colors, it was also a very good idea to show a view of real bridge. Maybe your bridge could be a bit lower? I think it would look better than ever :)
flame 1396, I like your pictures. But I don't know why did you put some of them twice? ()what()
Gaston, this structure is a filtering tunnel. You can find it here http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14995 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14995). It is transit enabled, has versions 3x1 and 2x1, but occupies only 1x1 space. It gives interesting possibilities. I used it in several cases, for example to hide transitions from one kind of road to another (see my post on "Show us Your Highways" thread - the fourth picture). I also used it in industrial objects.
Why did i cover the road? This is a recreational area of a modern city, the road is covered to prevent an environment against pollution. There are filtering installations inside ;)

Meanwhile, here's Olympia Bridge in Mordicar, Ensenada. It's an infamous bridge because it already suffers from congestion, two years after being built.
Welcome to page 2
Well seeing as this is the first bridge in my new TatTT heres a good place to show it. A very simple rural one for your delight ;)

TTC
:o I love it!!
You have got to stop all the great eye candy! They're getting so fat they aren't fitting in their sockets. ::)
TTC: Your bridge is a nice thing to see, but I am fascinated by the detail in the water itself. The way the plants seem to be "following" the current give the river a sense of movement that is slow enough to allow such growth. A great opening to page 2.
SA: The bridge is very well done (depsite lacking adequate capacity of course heh heh). That traffic though, in addition to the ship passing underneath the bridge give your pic a life of its own.
So SA, when do Slann and I get the lots? :P
SA, this picture is impressive. Very realistic wharf area. The avenue and bridge head is very well done. I like it very much.
TTC, nice to see you here. I agree with threestoges about the water flora. Simple, but professionalist's hand can be seen.
OK, here are some of mine. These are my first experiments with new bridges in mountainous area.

Your pictures are beautiful! Great picture of the mountain, Ennedi!
Ennedi: Those are impressive bridges. Is that a rail or a street though?
Shadow Assasin: Nice container area. Where did you get the warehouses that sit under the bridge?
Nice bridges everyone.
Here is my contribution. The start of a causeway that runs across a large lake:

Some time passed I was here - sorry
Bengt, your style is very specific and nice to see your pics here :)
The bridge is really great and contours of this island are very promising (a bit hard to say more ;))
AutoVino, Maxis bridges are very good - maybe the best sc4 objects made by Maxis ;D
Also nice pics - the second one is my favourite
Very interesting effect on the water - the only thing I think about is the water looks more quiet than these reflections suggest (only my opinion :)) - but very creative &apls

More than just your bridge, your waterfront is amazing. Where did you get those containers and warehouses? Also I would like to have those under the bridge warehouses. Are they made by you? If so nice work where can I download them? All together, where can I download the fillers, the cars, the containers, the cranes... LOL!
Wonderful picture of that two bridges, will_colorado!
An excellent shot at night of this bridge, Bengt!
Your pictures are also great, autoVino!

Don't worry apeguy, it's a Mayor Bean Ocean River Mod - link here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=11628)
There are separate textures for deep and shallow water in it - check the readme
The combination showed here is:
Deep sea 669999
Shallow water 669999, if you will use 669966, you will have a nice greenish color along the coast (as in mediterranean/carribean regions)
Welcome to page 3!
Great picture of your nice bridge, willy88!
Lovely stuff.
hey ennedi, I've had the ocean river mod before, & I used all the textures together, & it looked like a stormy sea! so what you're saying is, different texture combinations look like different things, cool! :P

Constructive criticism is very welcome. :)
That's a pretty good shot at it, but close ups might give better detail
@RickD:
Your bridge is very well done
The general view is excellent - both the bridge and the river (and especially islands &apls)
It is a huge bridge and you had very good idea with parking/service areas on both ends. But you can improve something in these places. Here are my suggestions (of course you decide ;)):
1. Remove both windmills, they look unrealistic in such place. If you want to have power, put an SFBT Stromgenerator (it is 1x1 lot with a fence and small diesel generator, it will look very good here. If you don't have it, I think you will find it on SimCity Plaza or Simtropolis.
2. The end with the tunnel entrance: leave the parking, small PEG's building and viewpoint as they are. Move the highway exit 2 tiles closer to the tunnel entrance. Why? It would be good to hide transitions from one grass texture to another. You can do it using trees (or better bushes) around both parking areas. And there is the only place at this exit you can't do it. If you move the exit by 2 tiles, you will be able to hide an ugly lot corner.
I'll pitch in one from my MD...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg485.imageshack.us%2Fimg485%2F9821%2Fdflagrivermay2307118883jw9.jpg&hash=afcfa577c00cab6f622cea64eeac6ad1c677a4a5)
Willy88: Nice close up, a lot of times I forget just how good the bridges in SC4 really look at that zoom.
RickD: That looks cool, the bridge and the terrain just make a really awesome combination. The only thing is the grass transitions in the close ups as Ennedi pointed out.
Travis: I like it, the embankment and sea walls give it a very clean, planned out appearance, and I really like the road passing under the bridge there at the waters edge. What lot is that making the underpass, don't think I've seen it before?
i think its part of the japanese highwalls set, which is the embankment set he's using.
Fantastic looking pictures of your great bridges, RickD and Travis!
Hmmmmm, for some reason I can't seem to look at Travis' picture. I just get the dreaded "X". Not sure why. I'd love to see it. I'm really curious about the embankments.
---Gaston
Imageshack is acting weird tonight, did the same with several of my pictures. Anyway, I re-uploaded it and it should work now.
EDIT: I'll hunt down the link for that underpass, too.
Okay, thanks I can see it well. Very nicely done indeed. Those are Jeronij's seawalls I think. But I to want to know:
QuoteWhat lot is that making the underpass, don't think I've seen it before?
That is really kool.

I like the train bridge rooker, especially the placement of the piers and the foliage underneath, however it would look a lot better with a train running over it.
Can't get enough of that bridge, Dark_Jedi! Outstanding job!

4geowobo,
thats a great pic! i like the embankents with the fences and the garbage along the highway (watch where youre driving on the highway!). the transitions for the grass textures are a bit too noticable but still thats a very good set, very realistic. is this available for download?
i hope you will post some more pics.
I would have to agree with jmdude. That looks just like an area off I-10 just east of the 405. It always seems to be the case too, traffic one way, clear open road the other (let's hear it for rush hour). Great pic.
Aye thanks for the compliments
Much appreciated
I live in the Montebello area so I always wanted to recreate the area in a way

Very nice sEAhAwk fAn121. It reminds me of some of the bridges I have crossed before. Like the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. linkie (http://www.baybridge.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&gallery=3) It has raised sections so ships can pass under it, plus even tunnels as well. Here is a kool link for it as well. [ linkie2 (http://www.cbbt.com/) ]

Excellent and spectacular bridges :o
wow, these are some super-cool bridges guys. also, I was wondering if anyone could help me, but I downloaded the milau viaduct, the steel arch viaduct, the tsing ma bridge, & the krummbach bridge, & I extracted the files & put them in my plugins folder, but they didn't show up! I have the NAM & the NAM essentials, but they still don't show up! what's going on?

Hmm... At first, read the NAM readme and installation instruction. Check your NAM folder in Plugins. You should have a file NetworkAddonMod_Bridges_Plugin_Controller and the subfolder "Additional Bridges" in it. After downloading the custom bridge you should put it's file into this subfolder. If something is bad, or if it looks OK, but you still don't see bridges, Uninstall NAM and NAM Essentials and install it again exactly as it is described in the instruction. Maybe it will help
ennedi is a genius
Don't joke Hotdog :D, let's wait if Apeguy will see bridges ::)
It worked with the metal arch rail bridge & the milau viaduct, but the krummbach bridge or the tsing ma bridge still don't show up. :'( I also downloaded the akashi kaikyo bridge & the kwanyoni bridge, did what you said, but they don't show either. &hlp
apeguy,
I suggest you to go to the NAM Troubles Thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1444.0), as I remember there were similar situations described here. I would like to help you, but I'm sure there are better specialists in the NAM place.
Ennedi, where did you get that bridge in the very last picture? Surely it's not an in-game bridge?
Fred
@Fred thats a result if you dont have enough space to span out Fukudas Akashi Bridge you get that one instead.
@Fred, of course Filasimo is right, I did it intentionally - I like the simple and modern form of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, I noticed it looks great on shorter distances, without spans :)
And for this reason I showed it's structure on the very last picture.
The same bridge is showed also on my first picture.

Hang on, is that a sneakily made pair of one-way bridges, or is that a new avenue bridge using said one-way bridges?
I'd actually not mind getting my hands on that bridge if it's the latter.
porter66083: these bridges in singular form are actually a Maxis original (used in the right situations these can be an excellent bridge choice - sometimes the only choice too if you want ferries and ships to be able to pass through). They were originally a road bridge, the NAM team modded them into a one-way bridge, and if this image is correct, now they've converted it into an avenue bridge.
Actually, by modifying the roadway texture, this bridge could also be utilised for the RHW-2 and RHW-4.
@ cammo / porter: STAY TUNED!
Cool bridge Seahawk :)
Great mosaic of that bridge, sEAhAwk fAn121!
Looking forward to that one, Filasimo.

Oh, excellent!
I have a few places I can use this one. :)
It looks like they just put two one-way bridges together and modded it to function as an avenue bridge, as the texture is the same as the one-way bridges but the texture on the ground (you can partially make it out to the left) is the avenue texture.

I'm surprised at the fact that the game allowed me to build a bridge that long with only two towers. Normally, the game builds that bridge span length with three towers (which technically isn't possible, because I don't think suspension bridges are meant to have more than two towers - imagine the forces involved).
And I agree with you, that bridge, along with the cable-stayed bridge, is one of the best bridges in-game. I'll have to fix the red lines (I know how it was caused, so I'll have to edit the bridge slope mod), they cause the bridge to look a little funny.
Great pictures everyone! And SA, that's weird that you got to build that long of a bridge with only two towers, and it looks good too, except the base of the tower looks a little odd. ;)

I especially like it's pylons!
The overhanging props technique is very powerful, I think it should be used more often.
It would be also possible to create an overhanging bridge prop for use with some functional bridges (not suspended ones).

I don't think so. At least not in the current state, as the models are still a little flawed and I'm too lazy to fix it ::) $%Grinno$%

Shame on you for not releasing these Lars, they're great as far as I can tell.
And I don't think anyone besides a scrutineer is going to dock you for not being perfect.

Well, but I for myself am doing so already. %confuso
No seriously. Espacially those arches would be a real PITA to correct and make them fit perfect, also because the model itself is hovering nearly 16 meters above ground level (to fit NAM Puzzles). Believe me, there're lots of oddities that would have to be corrected. Therefore, their use is a little complicated, like it is with all overhanging props.
Indeed it is, praiodan, I couldn't get a different view of that for the reasons you say. They float well above the bridge in other views and rotations. However, they served their purpose
Lars, maybe it would be easier to adjust the prop position if you would make a TE lot such as some buddybud's underbridge stuff? In this case you would have the lot on the same level as the avenue &idea

zakuten, please next time use a picture format with better compression. I have a broadband connection and it took a while for your picture to load.
Other than that, great picture!
Really like that picture of that bridge there, jacqulina! It's beautiful!!
Also yours are looking really good, zakuten!
These have been shown elsewhere before, but I don't recall ever showing them here. I have released the first, the second is still underway.

Excellent bridges, all of you. I dont have much bridges worth showing. But maybe my little canal bridge could be of some interest :

I like the bridge under construction. It adds more realism to the game.
And that's a huge bridge, HandsOn (and do I see that you used my dutch highway sings ;D?)

I now got some time to have a look about who made the building. And actually, all industires are made by Jestarr. And the building that i think you asked about is Goniff Chemical Works. (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=597)

I'll take it those coverd bridges are your own and not released anywhere? &ops
As for the CSK2 Bridges - is there any way to modify the rate at which they open and close? I tend to get a lot of airborne traffic using them.. ::)
Yeah, you won't find those at any exchange, I didn't want to release a TE lot. However, I did release the bridge pieces themselves in the covered bridges thread. As for the CSK2 Bridges, I thought Pegasus said that the traffic will pass through even though the gates are down. I looked at it in the Lot Editor, they appear to be timed props, rather than animated, I don't know how to adjust that.
However, if a stop point was added to the path programming of this bridge, timed just like avenue intersections, and the bridge was timed to the traffic light sequence, that might be a possible resolution, but again its the bridge props and gates themselves, that were already programmed to change at times.

Thanks; I'll try to find the bridges. As for altering Peg's bridges, that would be way beyond my abilities, so my commuters simple have to learn to swim or sink.. $%Grinno$%
OK, the CSK bridges are timed props, as animated props are very very hard to make. Putting stop signals on the path would be an issue as the gates are open for hours at a time in terms of the simulator, providing you could actually get the stop paths to work. I thought the cars were supposed to dissapear when the gates were open.
Good point, Diggis, and why don't they dissapear? This is the thing, when I made my own bridge over the canal, the cars turn invisible when traveling through mine, yet the water you can see underneath, but I don't know how Pegasus' bridge was rendered that this doesn't happen. Maybe, if a giant invisible time propped was put in the middle, timed the same when the bridge goes up, that you wouldn't see traffic pass through. Then again, that might not be possible either.

It's not that bad with cars, you can always find ways to reduce the traffic. But when you have ten-car trains running under the raised bridge, it stops being fun. I've raised the issue once, I believe, but since I have problem with the entire CSK kit, I've stoped using them altogether. Shame, really, because they do look great..
Nice looking pictures of your bridges there, @all!

pagenotfound: Best picture ever :o
Very good picture. The angle of the bridge makes a very cool contrast against the angle of the waterway. The water mod used here also looks very good in the situation(which one is it?) and with the terrain mod. Although someone might want to trim some of those trees near the el-tracks. :D
In honesty, the main thing that could be improved is that some of the tree models are very repetitive(look at the dark green ones on the bank above the bridge)
What are some trees that will be good for incresing variety? I got a few tree sets but a little more variety definately wouuldnt hurt.
Excellent pictures to everyone !!... pagenotfound, Your photo it's amazing..!!

Nice bridges in here, time to show one of mines:
The two bridges go over one of the arms of the Deng River delta. On them there are the major coastal highway and the coastal railway. (More informations in my CJ, link in signature)

Hope you like it!
Hey, feliwi, nice bridges, and you have some interesting configurations for transit. Your development flows nicely with the contours of the delta. I like your water mod, and the slight foggy look.
Here's a pic I uploaded a while back in the "Scenic Area" thread, before the area acquired a bridge (had to have a connection to the next tile), and they built a Bed and Breakfast at the Falls...such is progress. Do you like it better "Before" or "After"?

Thanks.. it took quite a few shots to get just the one deer running across. The editing was easy.. a slow hand and the blur tool in Corels PSP XI. I was trying to achieve the look of waves lapping at the shoreline.

Great pictures BoyMuc! I especially like the one with the waterfall
really nice bridge good work ;)
Great bridges everyone ;D I got one question though, I see some people having bridges over terrain without water, is there a mod for this and how can I get it?
Thanks very much ;D
Hi Maxim, welcome to devotion! The land bridges can be made with the use of the rain tool which can be found here: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21531
:)
Thank you very much:D
I have seen a lot of tifferent terrain graphics here. How do I get them? Please Help.
@ Trapmaka: Nice bridge, and I like the surrounding industry. But why is your profile pic thing the same as feliwi's?
@ Blade117: Try searching "terrain mod" either here -on the LEX- or on the STEX (though the search function on the LEX is not that great) . There are many to choose from, made by experts, and the result is excellet. I'm not using one, until I start a new region, since you have to open every city otherwise your region-view will be a patchwork quilt (doing this to every city with a shoreline when I got a water mod was tiresome enough)
Really nice bridges here! I'm impressed!
Here's mine:

Well I randomly created some lakes when forming the landscape in which I was going to build that city, and the city kinda grew right around it :P

Fantastic! What construction BATs are those? I've never seen them before (aside from the SFBT construction set, which I use a lot).
The barges are by PEG. The pillars by mrbisonm. And the construction by SFBT as you said.

where did u get that barge?
Hello shermankim777
That's a very nice picture. Thanks for sharing.
Um, Jim, that is quoted from nbvc's post earlier on the page. But it is an excellent picture, and I think that nbvc should put it in the competition.
And, shermankim777, that's a Maxis bridge. I know......... weird.......

hehehe, that maxis bridge looks good, surely on of the best by Maxis..
Anyway, Ethan, what
shermankim777 was talking about is the barge at the upper right corner of the picture. It come from the LEX, here at SC4D, and can be found here, by Jestarr in the EyeCandy LEX category (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1815). Hope that helps !

The technique I used can work with the RHW and HSRP too.
Oh........My......God. :o :o :o How did you do that? I seriously didn't know that you could do that with a RHW or HSR! Show some pics on how to do that!
And yes, I know that you can do that with puzzle pieces. I'm just wondering if that is a draggable. If so, make it on a video, and post it on Youtube.
yes, please show more. That is amazing. And don't tell me its just 'rain tool' antics. This is real water?!?
--Grif
Real water. It is real water.
setsealevel 0 is your friend.
Nice. I didn't know about that code. Have you experimented enough to be able to say how high the sea level can be before submerged networks/lots are automatically destroyed (if there is such a limit)?
I'm not sure about the limit. I just know that using the cheat destroys all bridges and tunnels. I'll do some more testing tomorrow and might post a tutorial.
That would be great, emgmod!
A bit more testing:

Correct, both of you. ;)
emgmod: This is plain draggable road, so no models were used.
firdausabdullah: I wrote a small explanation on Simtropolis. You may find it here (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=113515&enterthread=y#1686275).
A pity, that the road network seems to be the only one suitable for this technique. Every other network I tried with the same settings in the slope mod simply raised the terrain along the network, building a solid wall underneath &mmm. (This might be useful for building dams though ... )
As I'm no modder, I can't say for sure if there might be a possibility to extend this to other networks (probably not though, I think).
Some really interesting pictures coming out of this forum lately. Keep up the good work.

With a couple of tricks you can do it for any one-tile network. And you can plop puzzle pieces on the bridges too. You can also create sloped bridges this way. I've been experimenting a lot, but never got to the point of releasing something.
Three from me. First two of the Garabit Viaduct last one of a mountain road bridge.

That road is actually a tunnel that is covered with a visual trick to look otherwise. I believe it's called Petrouch_Underbridge_Road although I only found it uploaded by someone else here: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4524 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4524)

@Citybuilder: Yes, I have a mod that makes fog in urban areas from time to time. It's odd, but I kind of like it.
@TEG: No, actually, it isn't-- I'd not even heard of a bridge like this but I thought it'd be awesome, ahha.
Great one, BL, building realistic highways on mountains is quite a challenge but you've done a wonderful job

I liked that too. It was needed because the underside of the bridge did not clear the depth of the creek. There should be more culverts. I would love to see some that are relatively small.
Please note that I have underwater llamas.
The llama is a quadruped which lives in the big rivers like the Amazon. It has two ears, a heart, a forehead, and a beak for eating honey. But it is provided with fins for swimming. Llamas are larger than frogs. Llamas are dangerous, so if you see one where people are swimming, you shout, "Look out, there are llamas!"

...the bridge construction...
Ah, those Simcity bridges.....not always as easy as we wish.
Here, a little story about one of them that took several months to build and took the lives of 3 Sims.
The Bridge of the Ganoga River East is the connection of the Winding River Communities with the rest of the world to the East. A highway that connected the great inland cities with the coastal regions. Unstable landfills, savage forests, harsh weather conditions and a lot of biting, stinging and irritating insects were encountered during the long period of construction, but the bridge was finalized before the cold wintermonths arrived again.
The Idea, the Planning and the first arrival on the location.......

Fred
Now hold on a minute Fred, we're still trying to figure out McDuel's witchcraft. :P
Great construction pictures though
I liked the FAR bridge.. but to be honest, I liked the Ganoga river construction better.. I like stories :)
@ mrbisonm: Quite a good idea to show how a bridge is being built. :)
@ McDuell: Really, I didn't even have the slightest idea how you've done this. I know the Diagonal Bridge Enabler, but I didn't think that this was possible. Any explanation of how to do this would be a big help. :) Would be interesting to see what happens if soneone tries to create a FAR bridge with any other network than PS, because if there are no bridge pillars, guard rails etc., we will be left with a plain road texture crossing a body of water.
I think I know how he did it but before I reveal what I think, I have got to experiment with something...
Now this is really interesting.
Two ways of constructing a bridge: one is merely a digital game problem, the other is trying to get realistic images, more a matter of storyline and props...
I am not holding my breath, because that would be my death, knowing how long things can take, but I sureley am curious! ()what()
Beautiful pictures of the Ganoga river Fred!

Nope, no photoshopping at all. Everything is real here. ;)
Over at ST, Ganaram challenged me to build a curved bridge, so here we go:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi240.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff211%2FMcDuell%2Fmiscellaneous%2FFARHW_Bridge_curvedampsloped.jpg&hash=d4cae1430d73edc70c07fe3c62b082ecbc6ce10c)
And another picture; no FA, but this time I put in some slopes. The technique for building it is the same one as before.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi240.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff211%2FMcDuell%2Fmiscellaneous%2FRHW8C_slopedBridge.jpg&hash=15f2162e4fe81cf69fb564b0f70ee91ccbb2e7b7)
Happy guessing ;D
M.
playing with the diagonal bridge enabler or what? you found a way to lay out networks that ignore the fact they are in water?  :satisfied:
OK, Fess up on the fractional angle bridge.
I get the diagonal and curved bridges. That is easy by changing the water level in your terrain mod or using SetSeaLevel 0 (SetSeaLevel breaks everything else though). I use this often enough since it looks much better than the diagonal bridge controller and works on any network we have angled on slope pieces.
Did you a way to modify the games true North?
-Josh
wow. i'm with no words. are there any more steps the nam team can climb?
Fred, that's a lovely bridge and a still better presentation of the construction and the purpose of the route. A nice reminder of the potential of SC4 to tell stories and for stories to bring a city to life--your signature ability I suppose :)
@McDuell - the suspense is killing me &hlp
I don't have much time at the moment, so I'll explain the trick in a later post (if it'll still be necessary until then ...)
Just this: Technically, you don't even need any plugin in the game for this 'magic'. ;)
I'll leave you with two more pictures until then. (The technique is still the same as with the bridges).

I'll be back!
M.
OK, time for revelations. ;)
As I said before, you don't need any plugin in the game to achieve this kind of bridges, floating tunnels, et al. All you need is:
- SimCity4 (duh!)
- The big magic wand: SC4Terraformer (to be found here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=731))
The Terraformer allows you to change the terrain in mayor mode cities without destroying anything that might been already built there. It does not touch any existing trees, flora, building, networks, etc...
A note of warning: As the SC4Terraformer was programmed for Windows XP, I don't know if the Terrafomer will work on your machines. I somehow remember that some people had troubles running the program on newer systems and Windows versions. A number of them managed to get it to work with the compatibility mode, others couldn't. So there is, unfortunately, no guarantee. Fact is that the Terraformer works on my Windows7 64bit version without any problems at all; I don't even have to use the compatibility mode. So all I can say is that it might also work on your machines.
Having said that, it's finally time to build something. I'll take the floating tunnel as a (short) tutorial example.
First, lay down your network (or lot, flora, whatever ...) you want to manipulate the terrain underneath it. The important part here is only the highway, you don't actually have to place the El-Rail and Train networks yet. Save the game and exit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidppi%2F01_terrain_before.jpg&hash=48c42366e9ea95fea1e24c131164b8a71de1fdd3)
Now, backup your region in case anything goes wrong.
Start SC4Terraformer, select your region and unprotect the cities where wou want to change the terrain.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidpwr%2F02_protect_cities.png&hash=a161f1209fc505379d02f6ac81493898b1128779)
Scroll to the part to be modified ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidpwa%2F03_flatten_before.png&hash=960f0b89f99d91a0357e90919f7c5803d7f42d22)
... and flatten the area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidpwl%2F04_flatten_after.png&hash=efd6f8c93b2a0f2c7d995c8cc9694a718e2ab287)
Save the region. Mind the warning and be sure to choose 'no' in this case, else your city or modification is gone.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidpwi%2F05_save_warning.png&hash=07e8d44559e99633223ebb84910f8431c99eb11b)
Start SC4 again and load your city. It should now show like this.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidpww%2F06_terrain_after.jpg&hash=a23cb2c5182f2a2ad12d6bf606d9b328d405b5af)
Build something. ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg1.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidwga%2Finterchange_roads.jpg&hash=91b0267ce4da77783a11418ecf1d927c2781b53a)
The DrawPaths cheats shows a fully working tunnel.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.picload.org%2Fimage%2Fciidwgi%2Fpaths_roads.jpg&hash=dd672c15094e51c2471ca2f6761155ef85d859a4)
In this case, I started with a flat terrain and built the FARHW part first. Then I dug the river trench with the Terraformer. Back in SC4, I put down the rest of the networks and the other bridges over the now existing river.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi240.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff211%2FMcDuell%2Fmiscellaneous%2FFARHW_Bridge_overview.jpg&hash=eac16ff1ab7b36c7abe48c050255edeecf813a38)
Have fun exploiting. :)
Kinda a tricky but well thought. Excellent find.

Well done McDuell
I am thinking that we can avoid the use of the terraformer tool by upgrading the DBE &idea
That way you can just plop the Project Symphony Pieces onto the RHW aka Dirtroad network. Maybe a RUL0 rebase edit to make the pieces compatible with the dirtroad.
Also I can make some T21s to give support.
I will do some investigation.
-eggman121

Interestingly this is how I thought it was done - via DBE and dirtRoad, rebasing the desired piece to work with dirtRoad. Could be interesting...

What would we do without a bunch of curious people who keep thinking of ways to get around the limitations of the code. I look forward to seeing where this goes...
A great revolution! \°Ö°/ Impressive performance! The results for the city builder completely new opportunities to express themselves creatively.
These bridges are initially s very unusual in sight, this is something really new.
@McDuell: And? When can we see a Tutorial "How to build FAR bridges over normal water" on youtube in "show us your videos" &idea $%Grinno$%
Well, this again shows what we are in fact doing with this game: we are not building things on ground, we are editing binary files in a way that they show us images and processes....
No real engineer would feel like making bridges or tunnels this way....
Great findings and a useful tool for editing our cities. Thanks McDuell! &apls
I'm still processing the potential of this trick. There are many potential applications--most excitingly for me TIA bridges are finally possible, albeit without any bridge or viaduct models as part of them. Thanks!!

Very impressive &apls It seems like the time for FA bridges has finally come--and not in the way we would have expected (memo has made DBE-based ones in the past). What is the model? T21, puzzle piece, override, offset prop... ?
I did something vaguely related a few days ago. Not FA but it is sloped. It also needs more than a bit of polishing work ::)

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!
The FA3 Bridge is essentially a set of transit models that have pylons attached (No T21's) since the tiles are segmented.
It operates the same way as the DBE but has a bit more trickery. It is really hard to draw out a bridge but I would expect that would be rectified soon.
There will be more on this front when I get better. I am a bit sick at the moment due too extenuating circumstances.

eggman those look amazing, thanks for sharing them
I LOVE NAM!! Here is one type of bridge that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, cable stayed. I only wish there was RHW6S or 8S Cable Stayed Bridge for WIDE spans with high towers. I am limiting development with my connecting maps as I do not want traffic to build as this is the ONLY type maximum bridge I could build with RHW for that span. Any wider RHW, I will have to extend the shore lines that which looks sooo un-realistic.

Thanks to McDuell I was able to do a steo forward in my current region. This bridge was built with terraformer and zerosealevel.dat. While there was no water, I was able to place some park lots in the river for the sidewalk. I also tried to build a railing here with an expanded lot like Cedric did long ago but this didn´t work.
Something really nice would be an offset model of a bridge to put it under the street after building such a bridge. But for now I was able to solve a really big problem here. :)

Wow, the effect looks indeed interesting. The park lots have been destroyed, or both lots and network are untouched?
The park lots were placed while the zero sealevel.dat was inside the plugins folder. Now they are on the ground of the river. And cause I also changed the transparency of the water some time ago, you cannot see them, not even near the shore.
Cool!!!

When I've been away from this game too long, I start doing weird things... ::)
Wait a minute... I've already been beaten to this, haven't I? lol
By a couple years ? No worry though its a really neat concept... and is the one skill I lack when it comes to bridges.
