WOW I feel very unforgivable

I have not commented for some times
...available excuses to choose from : RL, Tool programming, lazyness
And what I saw today ? an update named after me ?

I'm sincerly honored david
If you don't mind, I'll copy/paste what I replied to you in the SC4TF Dev thread, as it may interest some posters/lurkers

Quote
If you want to play a little with the distance between 2 contour lines, you can edit the file land.fx located in the datas subfolder of SC4TF

you will find the distance in the CombineVS3 function

VS_COMBINE3 CombineVS3( float4 Pos : POSITION, float2 texColor : TEXCOORD0, float4 color : COLOR0 )
{
VS_COMBINE3 output = (VS_COMBINE3)0;
output.Pos = mul(Pos, WorldViewProj); // position (view space)

output.diffuse = color;
output.texDetColor = float2( .5, Pos.y/5 );

return output;
}

here it means there is a contour line every 5m, if you want a contour line every 15m, just divide by 15 instead of 5

So now, you know that after modding SC4, you can mod SC4TF.

David, it seems you've been busy since I've been away. Slipping a link to the "vanilla" game rock mod (nice), showcasing the terraformer in all its glory (I may just have to start using that now), and that's an interesting difference in the river banks. Can't wait to see what comes next (and hopefully I won't make you work too hard on it). By the way, Happy Thanksgiving!

I've spent the last few days terraforming and figuring out how to really use SC4TF. I divided 3RR162 into four sections (NE, SE, SW, and NW, what else?) and the program works like a snap to make the real fine adjustments I want.

I'm in a hurry this a.m., so here's a pic of NE as it stands right now.

Here's a full-size from region census [ linkie ].

Much more later.

David,
That's a great looking map. It's amazing how realistic it looks. I think I mentioned that I am using SC4TF (if not, consider it mentioned now) and am waiting with baited breath to see more examples of your work. Take care!

It takes about four hours to "wash" one of the four sections (NE, NW, SE, SW) of 3RR162 through three SC4TF region "equalizes" and then to hand-cleanup remaining stuff (then it's still not perfect- look for yet-unreconciled edge goofs in the pic below) and then to switch to SC4, rename each quad and then do fine terraforming (mainly small streams). NE is done. NW and SE are about an hour each from done. Here's SW, which still needs some touch up.

Here's a full-size from region census [ linkie ].

These views are 20 miles (32 km) on a side. I've look at a few aerial photos of corresponding scale over the past few days and am pretty happy with the result.

Once all four sections are done, I will reassemble them into the entire region. Hopefully, that'll be tonight, but I have the Week 5 Lists to do first.

I'll answer some recent questions the next time I post.

Later.

If you're that good at terraforming, I can't wait to see you build some cities!

David,
They're kinda hard to make out, but from what I can see, I love the look of the smaller tributaries. That kind of fine detail is what keeps me coming back to 3RR! Can't wait to see the final results.

you've certainly put a lot of effort into this project. I can't wait until you start city building. Good luck finishing all this terraforming!

Just a tease...

Sorry my time for this has been so limited over the past week. Plus, 3RR-NW is taking way longer to fine terraform than I ever expected.

Later.

just finished going through whole 3RR ...
I saw great nature in SC4 as well as IRL, great tutorials and real great terraforming ... Now my head is turning a bit ... :-\

It was a great read. About the time you need(ed) for terraforming: There is a German paraphrase:

"Gut Ding will Weile haben"

Freely translated: If shall be good take your time (It became great BTW...)

Take care

Wow! Those rivers must have taken forever to form. They look absoloutly stunning!

Edit: I have to ask since I tried to install the same terrain mod for my region and I've had some problems with it. What is causing the slight colour disfiguration that seems to appear in certain city tiles. I can see that you have that too, though my problems were much more severe and I decided to leave the terrain as Maxis default for now.
