Introduction
Well now that I've got your attention, I'd like to welcome you to my first REAL MD on SC4D, Gotham City. This mayor diary will incorporate something that has never been done on the forums before. I will set up this MD in the style of a comic book (as you see above). As explained in my Planning Gotham City thread, I'll be blending Batman comic books and TV shows, then weave SC4 images into the mix to combine the elements into comic book pages—forming storylines which are based on existing Batman stories (but adapted by me for the forums).

This journal will incorporate both traditional MD elements—such as building updates and city showcasing—with my own unique twist on story-based MD's. This way, those who just want to look at pretty pictures don't have to read the story, and those who want to follow the storylines can read both comics and city updates. This way, everyone is happy! Here are how the updates will be organized:
-Before I show the comic book pages, I will showcase the settings which will be shown in the storyline, so that the reader may familiarize him/herself with the setting. To simplify this: Before the story continues, I will show SC4 images of the setting where the story will take place.
-I will also show character profiles, including pictures of the characters that are going to appear in the storyline and a brief description of who they are and what they're like.
-After I've established the setting and characters, I'll be posting the comic book pages. These storylines are based on existing Batman stories, which I've re-written and adapted for the forums. I will credit the original writers, but the stories you see here are written by me (despite some quotes that just HAD to stay in the story because they were that good).

This is a CITY journal/Mayor Diary. Though I will incorporate my own style (the comics), the true purpose of this project is to showcase the city which I've built. Gotham City is a decaying metropolis. The police are corrupt, poverty is rampant, crime is abundant, and strange costumed criminals run around causing chaos. This isn't a safe city after dark. Hopefully, that will give you an idea about the feel and atmosphere I'm trying to recreate.

And here is my region. As you can see, it's somewhat accurate (down to the roads, freeways, and landmark locations). Technically, this is a city-recreation.

Based on the comics and movies, Gotham varies in style, though at heart it is Art-Deco. Imagine New York in the 30's, with the skyscraper race to the sky and the detail in the buildings (gargoyles, statues, etc.). Now imagine if that Art Deco landscape was fused with modern Chicago and Los Angeles architecture (think contemporary glass skyscrapers). Then add an asylum and a couple of delusional costumed villains, and you've got Gotham City—a crazy town in its own right.
My primary inspirations for building this in SC4 was:
-New York
-and Chicago
(though the Chicago feel will definitely stand out more due to the setting of Batman Begins—which was filmed on location in the Windy City).
I took elements from each, and I'm pretty content on how it turned out (but you'll have to form an opinion for yourself). The city is incredibly dense. A medium city tile has about 150,000 thousand people, and the only relief from crowding is a massive city park in the middle of the chaos (inspired by Central Park).

This CJ will be divided into two styles. The first style (the one we'll be seeing in the following updates) are based on the comic books. The second style is based on DVD screen-caps from Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS). We'll only be seeing the first style for a few months, and the Animated style will take over from then on out. BTAS had over 85 episodes and I'll be adapting some of them for the forums. That's dozens of short storylines. This way, we won't have a giant story that'll clutter up the CJ and discourage people from reading and following it. Yay.
Well I hope I've been clear explaining all this, but if you have a question, feel free to ask. I'm really excited to finally start this (after HALF A YEAR of preparation), and hopefully, those who followed my previous CJ's will stop by. However, I'm also eager to see some new faces!

I'm not great fan of this. First of all, your Gotham looks too clean to compared to e.g Batman movie from year 1989. You have glass skyscrapers when comics and movies (Batman Begins' Gotham is "real city", so I can't complain about that) have mostly stony, brown, art deco and gothic skyscrapers. Then your Gotham looks more like Metropolis, because does Gotham really have so many skyscrapers? Yeah, in that film what had Arnold as mr. Freeze it was like Coruscant, but again, they were very dirty and could have been few stories high. And this is bright, Gotham is dark!
And if you must steal comic character, draw them yourself.
STAFF EDIT: Bengt, there's a pretty well-defined line between constructive criticism and out-and-out attack. The first paragraph is on one side of that line- the second is a bit over. It doesn't strike us that Eddie is "stealing" anything. He's chosen to enhance a comic strip (over which it is apparent he claims no authorship) with SC4 elements. It may not be to everyone's taste, but that doesn't mean our friend's effort should be dismissed out of hand. There's about 70 MDs here at SC4D, nobody says you have to like all of them. And, as noted above, you make several valid critical points. Today's update (Setting) will focus on the massive expanse of Wayne Manor and its inhabitants, the Wayne Family. Wayne Manor will be shown from all sides during a day-to-night cycle.
It has been the ancestral home of the Waynes for generations. Covering acres of wooden estate, Wayne Manor is Gotham's largest mansion. It's sprawling cave system was once used as part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War--the only section of the UR that was actually underground.

Bengt: First of all, thank you for commenting. Second of all, my Gotham City is based on the Gotham from Batman Begins and the comics. I didn't take much inspiration Batman89. Frankly, I didn't like the movie as much as Begins. As for the city being too clean, I'm sorry but you haven't seen enough of the city to judge. Is this dirty enough for you?

Then we get to the point of Gotham having many too many skyscrapers as you've said. Yes, Gotham is the largest city in the DC comics world (even more than metropolis). It has about 10 million people living on those three islands so you can expect it to be pretty dense. Let's not mention Arnold as Mr. Freeze again. Batman & Robin was a terrible movie. ;)
As for Gotham being "too bright," there are many instances in the comics where Gotham is pretty lit up. I've scanned some of those instances to show you.

Martha Wayne, born Martha Kane, was also born rich herself. She is the heiress to the Ace Chemical fortune, and having nowhere to spend so much money, she donates by the millions to charities. Though stylish and elegant, she prefers not to be in the public eye.

Alfred Pennyworth. Though not Wayne by blood, the Pennyworths have been serving the Wayne family since the Revolutionary War. A former British actor and secret agent, Alfred Pennyworth manages to maintain the massive expanse of Wayne Manor all by himself.
Next Update: Concerning Bats and Bruce Wayne
The "Crime Alley" photo was more "real Batman" what I've used to. You can't really argue about is Burton's Batmans better than these news, but Burton and (was that?) Frank Miller made Batman and Gotham to dark and evil place, and you shiny skyscraper forest gives this that camp feeling from 60's series. I suggest, that you left those newer skyscarpers out from your Gotham, because I haven't seen in my comics nothing super shiny glass tower. Using BSP towers and old, 60's-70's American skyscrapers like Bank of America building from Chicago. I suggest that you replace NDEX towers with something else, their architechture isn't "Gotham".
I must admit, that they release about 4 to 6 DC comics in Finnish language, so I had to order them from America and my collection of Batman is limited to 80-90's, when Batman's own comic was popular here. Still, when creating fictional city you have your freedom to make it. And if your Gotham looks more Begins and upcoming Dark Knight movies, did the city had really so much skyscrapers? So reduce amount of skyscrapers and avoid shiny glass and your Gotham will be "nicer" or should I say "worse" like comics ;)
Anyway, the Wayne Manor. Good choice for the building, but I remember from movies and 60's series that mansion was near ocean in the middle of forest? Your's is located middle the suburb, but of course Batts has tunnels (as you mentioned the UG Railway) for Batmobile, Batboat and other transportation thingies. Maybe more taller woods in the middle of fence and that street would make it better. Photoshopping is nice, but IMO you are making nightpictures to bright, Batman's nights are always dark.
Reason why I'm so "offensive" is that when anyone is creating something BIG from popular culture, it always bring some discussion. But making Batman's adventures is brave action, it will require more creavity than e.g making adventures of Daredevil -> make NYC and your ready to write a story.
EDIT: shouldn't this be placed to Special Interest of This Month, replacing the earlier "Planning Gotham City"?
Gotham City looks good, but the way the pictures are done don't really suit the city as a whole. They feel a little too bright (note I'm not talking about the actual lighting of the cityscape), and a little too blue at night (SC4's fault, I know, but can easily be sorted by putting a separate grey layer on top, reducing the opacity, and change the Layer Type to Saturation [or whatever the GIMP uses]). That will get rid of most of the blue. :P
Other than that, top-notch city building! I'd love to see the rest of the city.

Bengt: Ah, you're back. Glad you like you like the Crime Alley photo. We'll be seeing more of that in a few days. But let's get to the point where you said Burton's Batman is better than the "news," which I assume is Batman Begins. I don't want to turn this into a Burton/Nolan argument. Everyone has been exposed to Batman at different points and times in their lives. You, I assume, were introduced to Batman during the late 80's or earlier. That means you probably like Burton's Batman better. I understand. But his movies weren't neccesarily better. It's just your personal preference.
I was introduced to Batman in the mid-90's, with the Animated Series and BURTON'S Batman Returns in the mid 90's. Batman Begins got me into reading comics. However, Batman was already dark in the 70's with Denny O'neil. Frank Miller and Burton just brought this dark and gritty Batman into mainstream America.
I want my Gotham City to look and feel like a realistic city. That's why I didn't like Burton's Gotham as much. It was simply too far-fetched and out-there. It was filmed in a studio, not in a real city. It didn't FEEL real. And as for my cities having too many skyscrapers, here are some screen captures from Batman Begins, which much of this CJ is based on.

Yep. Lots of super-shiny glass towers. Because that's what normal American cities have. That's what Nolan's Gotham had, and that's why I liked his better than Burton. Gotham was filmed in Chicago so it looked and FELT like a real, modern American city.
Now for Wayne Manor. I understand it's located in a suburb, but it's not very far from the sea (I didn't zoom out that far). What's wrong with not using a bit of imagination? It doesn't have to be exactly like the old 60's TV show. But why would I base my CJ on Adam West anyway?
As for the night pictures being too bright, your monitor is probably set too bright as well.
Shadow Assassin: If the pictures are a little too bright, you might want to decrease the brightness on your computer monitor. See, that's the problem. Everyone has their monitors set to their own personal preferences so there'll be variations in brightness on different PC's.
dedgren: I'll work TWICE as hard of course. I want the two to be seperate CJ's. However, I might not be updating Planning Gotham City for a long time, so I think it'll be a waste of space in the Special Interest Forum. An active CJ might do better in its spot. Thanks for commenting, dedgren!

Does Chicago have shiny glass like e.g those new London towers? More like "old" office towers, where windows have BIG frames. Maybe NDEX towers could fit, but in other hand Montauk Gas Company (got that right %confuso) wouldn't fit to Gotham, not for Nolan's or Burtons.
But to the Wayne Mayor, also Joel Schumacher's film shows that Wayne Manor is located near sea or massive lake. Burton's movies show that Manor is middle of forest, which fits to the bat. But otherhand, because Nolan's version is modern it's easy to think that Manor would be center of high wealth living area, but maybe more woods still?
Update: you created the gardens very nice. Looks like the comic version. Only thing (I should write to the creator of that comic) that shouldn't Alfred be younger? He looks like man in the early 60's in that and is he really 70-80 years old in the comics?

Nevertheless I acknowledge the effort you have put into this and looking at the SC4 content you have done a fine job. Your version of Wayne Manor looks great :thumbsup:.
Gotham itself looks brilliant and must of taken you a lot of time to put together.
I will be keeping this in my sights and will certainly pop back now and again. You never now, I might become a Batman fan :D

Sometimes when you plop it, the sign says "Star Wars." Other times it says, "Les Miserables," "Phantom of the Opera..." In that picture I kept replopping it so it showed something else, but after 5 times (and 500,000 simoleons spent), it still showed Jimi Hendrix, and I just left it at that.

His name is Arabic for "The Ghoul's Head," and Ra's al Ghul seems to be just that. The leader of the League of Shadows, Ra's Al Ghul is a skilled fighter—as deadly as he is intelligent. A Young Bruce Wayne
Still haunted by the sudden and violent death of his parents, Bruce Wayne traveled the world, trying to understand criminality and fighting techniques, so when he returns to Gotham, he will be prepared to dedicate his life to fighting crime.

So begins Year One.
These chapters will showcase Batman's first year fighting crime in Gotham City, from his first success exposing a drug-busting ring, to the final confrontation in which an old nemesis attempts to destroy the entire city. Year One will also bring to light Batman's uneasy alliance with the Gotham police force, and his struggles with a city that's approaching the brink of chaos.
The elevated rail pictures were pretty good and the comic of the rail part was interesting. Can't say much from the palace, it's just advert for the bat and demolishing it without the fire, hmm.
I assume that this is the comic book from the film, because al-Ghoul looks like Liam Neeson.. And also I dislike how you follow the comic book directly, because if I remember right, Ra's al-Ghoul didn't trained Batman and just appeared as mystical character who wanted to take over the world. I disliked that in the movie too, but it was clever to have one of Bat's deadlies foes as his trainer. Though IMO Scarecrow (who looks like Marvel's Scarecrow in the movie) should had been the main villain, now he was just a henchman. (I hope that you understand the Scarecrow-thingy, it's hard to explain it in Finnish too at 4:00 am.)
And Daddy-Batman was a stupid man. Really, dude had massive fortune but no bodyguards when going to dark alley. What was he thinking?

Founded in the 17th century as a shipping and steel manufacturing company, Wayne Enterprises has since adapted to modern times with the addition of its current branches WayneTech, WayneAerospace, and Wayne Chemicals. Its headquarters is in the geographical center of Gotham—an immense art deco skyscraper, Wayne Tower. The city's power and water supplies, as well as the massive elevated train networks are routed right into the tower.
Note: This update will also show comparisons to the RL Wayne Tower in Batman Begins, which is the Chicago Board of Trade Bldg. By the way, Tjibaou Rentals (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=3019) by jtportland is used for the monorail stations as seen in the movie. It was the closest thing I could find, but IMO it fits in quite well.
Bengt: You're correct. This is the Batman Begins comic book adaptation. Ra's looks like Liam Neeson, Bruce Wayne looks like Bale, etc. I liked the origin of Batman Begins so I decided to use its comic book for this MD. As for Ra's being Batman's trainer, I actually didn't mind. This was one of the few moments where not being faithful to the comics worked for me. However, opinions differ.
I understand what you mean by Scarecrow just being a henchman (working for Falcone and Ra's). I can tell you wanted him to have more screentime. But if it makes you feel better, he'll be appearing in the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Spy-pictures in Chicago show that he's going to be in it.
As for "Daddy-Batman" (haha), well not every rich guy needs a bodyguard. He probably thought no one would want to kill him anyway (after all the money he's donated to the city).

Well, don't get depressed. MD commenting in Devotion is smaller than in ST, because less members and the site is more for custom content where ST is more to show off cities.
Anyway, the BAT for the Wayne building is excellent choice, but I saw only one line leaving from each direction in the movie, you have 1,3,1,3 order? As I said in ST, the police station is boring and somekind of ugly because of Maxis, but also again excellent recreation. It's looks like the whole GCPD is crooked and a criminal gang, if so why Gordon get to live?

I decided to skip the Gotham Harbor update because I wanted this CJ to be going at the same rate as the ST version. It just felt weird updating with a delay. Batman's first adventure has him intercepting Falcone's massive drug importing scheme, bringing the mob boss into custody at last.
patfirefghter: Well since you comment my MD every day, I'll stop by your MD so we'll both have some company. :thumbsup: As you can see, I'm not as active here at Devotion and I hardly comment any MD's, so maybe your MD will be the one that changes my habits. By the way, I was looking at Oasis-The Wild West and I saw your comments there from last year. Good times.
Bengt: Well in the movie, it only SHOWED one line emerging from the building, and we pretty much saw only one angle of the building. They did mention in Begins that the train intersects right at Wayne Tower, so imagine a massive elevated rail/monorail system and how many tracks it would have.
As for Gordon being able to work with the GCPD, I assume you've read Miller's Year One. If you remember, in that story he is attacked by his fellow officers (Flass and company) for being an honest cop. It's their way of "breaking" him in.

Now, I'm not much of a fan for newspapers in MDs (no one reads them anyway), but I decided to include one for this update. The problem I have with newspapers is that no one is willing to read long blocks of text on the internet. That being said, you don't have to read this, but I thought it looks nice.
I also think that not enough MD'ers use real newspapers for inspiration and it loses the believability factor. I looked at various copies of the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal to come up with this paper. Being in a journalism class in high school works wonders as well.

The Narrows
Built on a swampy island off the coast of Gotham City, the Narrows was originally built as a massive public housing program to ease poverty in the inner city. However, the island eventually became overcrowded and polluted, and soon enough, the Narrows had established itself as the city's worst slum. Built on the same island, but obviously some distance away, is the mental institution Arkham Asylum. Government law prevents the Narrows from expanding to close to Arkham, so only half of the island is occupied, while the asylum takes up a vast area of wooden estate.
Note: This will be one of the few times where the SC4 location looks nothing like the scenes from the movie/comics. Building limitations will do that to you. Frogface's slums might've done the trick but they're hell to grow.

Though your Narrows is as accurate as is can be in comics, is dosen't make you feel like you're in hellhole where is no escape. Too clean and too much space. All the trees and streets make this look "bad". You should do your own Narrow-lots by using those buildings, like Glenni did in his MD.
For Scarecrow again: those "hair", "nose" and "hands" aren't frightening, maybe he wants Batman to die in laughter. If you have seen Marvel's Scarecrow, he is much "cooler" and actually half-demon nowdays. The movie version looks like Marvel's because there is no hat and Marvel's SC has same looking mask and the dress what movie's SC wears combined to mask and rope hanging in his necks makes his look like real psycho.

The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum was established in the 1920's as a mental institution for the criminally insane. Founded by Amadeus Arkham, the asylum was named after his mentally-ill mother, who eventually committed suicide. The founder himself also went insane after losing his fortune during the 1929 stock market crash. He died in 1962 with a smile on his face. Today, Arkham lies in a wooded acre on Narrows Island, supposedly to provide a peaceful environment for its inmates--or to prevent them from getting too close to the city, where they would pose a threat to its residents. The asylum's dark past mirrors its disturbed inmates, which range from serial killers to schizophrenics.

Batman goes to Arkham Asylum to weed a confession out of Jonathan Crane, after hearing that a microwave emitter had been stolen from Wayne Enterprises. Interrogating the Scarecrow with his own toxin, Batman's worst suspicions are confirmed when Crane tells him his plan to destroy the city.

Anyway, lack of "buildings" makes me again to wonder, should I even comment now? But but. Scarecrow's defeat was realistic, I hate when comics Batman (non-superpowers) must beat some dude hours to get him unconsicous and same thing occurs with superpowered heros, like Spiderman who can lift 20k kg but still 70-year old Chameloen can take his punches. Really. Once I saw, how Trapster spitted some blood from his mouth after Spiderman's kick to face, but again, Trapster is just guy with glue-pistol and funny outfit. Back to DC Comics and your CJ..

Gordon shows the Dark Knight the new Bat-signal and tells him how the police force has finally pulled the task force trying to arrest him. The GCPD is also showing signs of recovering from corruption, but the city still has plenty of problems...including the appearance of a new criminal.
So ends Batman's first year of fighting crime in Gotham City.

This is quite unique, to say the least. I caught myself when first viewing this MD scrolling through the images quickly.... no SC4 pics. Well upon closer inspection, I now realize your skill with the images. You have the saturation and coloring (filters?) set perfectly to fit the comic.
SOOOO I read the whole thing. I notice that each update is getting better in quality. I'm definitely not here to argue over small details (no offence to anyone who is).

pat: Thanks for the comment. Glad you noticed the link between Martha Wayne and Ace Chemicals. It doesn't mean that Bruce is the owner, it's just an interesting piece of history I added. It would appear that after Martha "Kane's" death, the chemical plant went into disrepair and polluted the river, showing that Gotham City was better before the Wayne murders. Ok, I have spent the better part of the day figuring out what to say about this journal. And I've been lurking around here more than, I think, in any other thread.
And, I have nothing... besides the obvious "you are a genius" stuff. It all looks so amazingly good, and the storyline is executed flawlessly, your graphic skills are amazing, etc. etc.
I guess the correct term for describing my feelings would, very litterarily, be "lost for words". ;D
I think what you have created is so focused on the reading experience that I almost feel bad about interupting the story with stupid comments. &apls

Quiet and ever watchful, Gotham's zeppelins hover 1,000 feet over the city's skyline. The landscape of the city is changing. The new face of Gotham City politics is an honest one, though there are some wrinkles to be ironed out. Politicians with mob relations have been driven out in a massive scandal, while the city's corrupt cops are being systematically replaced. Though corruption is slowly being driven out of the city, even the honest ones have trouble trusting the mysterious vigilante, Batman.
Note: Readers of Meinhosen's CJs will see the obvious Ralston influence in the city hall district. ;)

Harvey Bullock
Though his motives are questionable and he is often suspended for his actions, Harvey Bullock is a good cop. He may not look the part (often unshaven and poorly dressed), but Bullock is passionate about enforcing the law. He is, however, distrustful of the Batman, and gets in frequent arguments with Gordon concerning Batman's vigilante motives. Bullock leaps at every opportunity to apprehend Gotham's Dark Knight.

I know this was a while ago but you questioned my last post several updates ago ("a Batman theme problem")
I had seen that Bengt had a problem with the town hall and was wondering if he thought
that the architecture didn't comply with the Batman/Gotham theme or he was just being Bengt, I guess the latter applied :)

Thanks for the compliment, Eddie! I know that the thank's is a bit belated, but I just caught it after going through this MD in detail. On a side note, I actually redesigned Ralston's downtown a few months ago, so it's good to see that the old influence lasted beyond my late night urban renewal kick.
This MD seriously rules. I've been watching all the animated Batman shows from the mid-90s and have enjoyed the shows and this MD even more after seeing them intertwined so well. It shows a lot of thought and hard work to blend those two as well as you have, and needless to say you've gained a loyal reader. :thumbsup:
One thing I'd like to see is some close-ups of the rough-and-tumble world of Gotham... the dirty alleys, the rusted industry, the massive public works infrastructure(s) that are so common to GC (if you have one drawback to your depiction of Gotham, it's that the city is so clean-looking from those far-zoom screenshots).

pat: Hey, thanks for opening Page 8. We're getting there!
meinhosen: I really love the way you made your city hall in Ralston, so I've been trying to incorporate that style into my cities, but give it a fresh unique twist. The style has grown on me so much, that it's how I build my city hall districts all the time (SF city hall across from Buffalo).
Now as for the animated shows, they were indeed classics in 90's American TV. Mature storylines + pulpy 30s noir + Batman = damn good television.
However, you bring up the point that Gotham City is too clean. Thing is, with so many interpretations of the city (Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan, TAS, the comics), it's quite a hassle trying to juggle them all. TAS Gotham City is somewhat clean, but I also draw heavy Art Deco influence from Tim Burton and the gritty realism of Batman Begins (Christopher Nolan). However, there's an update in this CJ called "Crime Alley" and IMO it's pretty dirty. ;) It's on Page 1.
But look out though. In a week or so, I'll be posting an update entitled "Lower East Side" That should show the rough and tumble world of Gotham's streets, as well as some gritty polluted industry (TAS style of course).

I totally forgot about your Crime Alley story in the opening pages... oh well, I guess I'll chalk that up to getting distracted by work midway through my browsing of your MD. You and I like Gotham for similar reasons (i.e. non-Batman reasons), in other words the gritty reality of the city, the Art Deco influence (which you pointed out is seen in Burton's films and also in the animated series to a lesser extent) and for me the fact that Gotham blends parts of several of America's major cities together (which gives it a good flavor and mix when you recreate it in SC4).
You've got a heck of an undertaking in re-creating Gotham. I'll continue to eagerly await the results of your efforts.
Honestly, in terms of creativity, this has to be one of the best MDs I've ever seen. Its a fresh, totally different take on MDing, and it works very, very well!

meinhosen: Indeed. I like Gotham for non-Batman reasons as well. Architecture wise, it's very unique, and there's some social issues with building the city, too (crime, poverty, pollution). But it's also fun recreating landmarks and geographical areas.

The Flying Graysons perform amazing stunts, hundreds of feet in the air, without the aid of a net. Long since abandoned, the Domino Sugars Plant has remained empty for years, only occupied to provide shelter for the occasional homeless person...or on-the-run criminal. The plant is located in the Canal, a once prosperous industrial district that decayed after the Depression.

Author's Note: Well that's Robin's Reckoning. Hope you liked it. And as some people have noticed, I tend to put a lot of detail and "little things" in the stories.
Not many of you may give it a second's glance (or even know what it means), but the line: "Good soldier. Good soldier," is my homage to one of the most influential Batman stories of all-time, The Dark Knight Returns.
And like I promised, we see all of Robin's colors in his internal monologue captions. Red, yellow, and green--which was unveiled in the closing page of the story. So that just about wraps up Robin's Reckoning!

In a city corrupted into urban decay and blight, Giordano Botanical Gardens is one of the few remaining glimpses into Gotham's once promising past. It is still maintained, however, thanks to funds from Gotham University's botanical department, where a certain woman is intent on preserving the garden's vast array of rare flowers and plant species.
Note: The garden's name is a tribute to Batman artist Dick Giordano.

oh yes the pretty poision episodes....that was a good backdrop on the beginnings of that villian....i love that your using the DC comics animated series for your storyline updates...i always loved that series they made during the mid 90s when i was a kid.....i actually have the 2-3 seasons b4 the animation got rather crappy.....keep up the good work eddie :thumbsup: i hope you do the heart of steel 2 parter when the cybertron AI machine, HARDAC duplicate clones of Batman and other figures and then fights against the real batman.....that was a really good 2 parter. will be watching this MD more

I've been considering doing the HARDAC episodes, but the story's too "out there" and there's not much interesting city settings. I also don't want to introduce Barbara Gordon yet (I think Robin is enough). However, my favorite out of that trilogy was "His Silicon Soul." Good Terminator-esque stuff right there. By the way, I posted my picture at the picture thread in ST (one of the latest pages), so that's how a real pinoy looks like. :P

hahahaha pare i also saw you left one on the show us pics of yourself thread and left you a lil comment or 2 :D that is true about the HARDAC miniseries it was mainly inside...... well Christmas with the joker would be a great update since the episode was when the Joker kidnapped all the officials and made it a game for the Batman to rescue him and made him go around the city ...one of my favorite episodes because of the ending hehe....
ouuu that reminds me the one with crime alley where Roland Daggett hires Mr Nitro to bomb the rundown buildings along crime alley its called appointment in crime alley. thats another favorite episode of mine and i was pissed at part of the ending if you remember what happens i hope ya consider making those episodes i mentioned into updates...theyre really good ones....

hey pare yea i went through all the pages of what episodes you made and you had great choices.....despite christmas with the joker being cartooney ya gotta remember that when it comes to episodes to the joker some can be a bit cartooney in a way and as for appointment in crime alley it was sorta dragging but it did have some actions that detered Batman from locating Leslie so its a good ep imo....as for Demons Quest 2 parter thats going to be awesome i always loved the Raj Al Gul episodes for the winter months you should do one of the movies like Mask of the Phantasm or Subzero. anyways always looking forward to your updates pare didnt realize there was other pinoys who appreciate Batman TAS as i do hehe... keep it up! :thumbsup:

Arnold Stromwell has been the king of the Gotham underworld ever since the mental breakdown of Carmine "The Roman" Falcone. His empire of drugs and violence has torn his family apart, and to make matters worse, a new gangster is quickly gaining power, threatening the city he has sacrificed so much to take control of.

Salvatore Maroni
Salvatore Maroni is someone no one wants to get in the way of. He's new to the city, but he's already compiled an impressive resume: murder, graft, drugs. Even corruption, which the Batman worked so hard to rid the city of, is returning once again thanks to Maroni's influence on Gotham City's politicians. He has been arrested many times, but is always released soon after--usually due to lack of evidence.
Rumor has it, he's trying to take control of the entire city's underground rackets. Arnold Stromwell is the only person standing in his way...
Next in "It's Never Too Late": The mob war escalates, and Maroni has a plan to rid Stromwell once and for all--in classic Italian fashion!

Nice work matching the church in the episode with that BATted cathedral. I also like the look of the railyards... if you change the pic to a sepia tone it would look almost exactly like Stromwell's childhood flashbacks.
One quick question: is the rival mob boss Salvatore Maroni or Rupert Thorne? The picture you're using for Maroni is the animated series' Thorne, but you also mention Rupert Thorne in Maroni's bio (see your update about Stromwell Manor). Just wondering and curious.
