I've been thinking about this for a while, however, I must admit that the idea to open a thread for this only hit me today, for some reason or another...I see a lot of different names or "nicknames" or whatever their official name is, and I was wondering what they mean. So, I've started this topic as a place where, if you so desire, you can give a quick explanation as to what your nickname means, stands for, etc. And, I guess I'll be the first:
thundercrack83: "Thundercrack" is the name of one of my favorite songs by Bruce Springsteen, written and recorded in 1973, but previously unreleased until 1998. The "83" was just as random number tagged onto the end.
What about you?
Well, mine's also music-based. "Tarkus" is the name of the second album by the progressive rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP), released in 1971. It's also the name of the weird armadillo/tank creature depicted on the cover (and in my avatar), which is (abstractly) the subject matter of the 20-minute long title track.
ELP is one of my favorite bands, and while Tarkus actually isn't my favorite album of theirs (their debut edges it out for me), the cover is probably my favorite album cover of all time.
-Alex (Tarkus)
Hehe.
Mine is pretty simple.

Strechnitz has a complicated history. I read a book about Leibnitz for history. And had a boyfriend who was german and his surname was Streichen. one of my first cities was named Strechnitz as a composite of bot. And when I decided to start an MD I fished that name out of my minds archive ;D to make it the capital. so when I registered for SC4D It was the first (decent) thing that came to mind. :D

Hmm mine came from my former addiction of playing Super Mario Bros on my old (and still functioning) NES system.
Since i thought Mario, sounded rather uncool as a screenname, i used the name of the bad guy Wario and made simwario on it (which is also my nickname on some other sites). But since most people refered to me shortly as wario or vario, i decided to use that as a screenname here and added the 80 as the extension, since i thought "Vario" was already taken.
And 1980 is my birthyear, so that's why i have chosen Vario80 ;)
Sebes is just me actual first name.
In Elven it's translated as Himelen... so I just leave it to Sebes ;)
Indeed there are some very original names and their method of creation.
Mine evolved from my love of Tea. Somebody called me it one day at work and I thought to myself that's a cool moniker. One day when browsing the web I found the avatar I was going to use from that day on. Those of you who have been here from the start have seent he subtle changes that have occurred :D
My first name is Derry and in Gaelic is (Diarmuid pronounced

Praiodan is derived from Praios, the godfather, god of light, sun and justice in the 12-gods pantheon of the fantasy world Aventurien. It's quite a common name in that world which is the major showplace of the german pen&paper roleplay game Das Schwarze Auge.
So to say, Praiodan means: The man believing in Praios ;)

Bengt comes from Swedish ice-hockey coach Bengt-Åke Something, my friend invented it because I have a Swedish last name so he was thinking that I should have Swedish first name also. No need to mention, that alcohol during that ice hockey match "helped" him to get that name for me ;D

Now far as my name here and every where else! Do i really need to explain lol $%Grinno$%
Well it started out as my email addy pat is my first name and well of course being at the time
when i first got my hotmail addy i was a junior FF for a department in IL. Junior being like boy
scouts but threw the fire dept instead and that was back in 96. Why i did firefghtr the way
i did is cause i origanly had it pat_fire_fighter and i didnt like it. then in 98 i changed it and
shortend it to what it is now patfirefghtr taking out the underscores and some vowels. To
this day im still a volunteer fire fighter but of course its now with Pine Lake Fire Department Linkie (http://www.pinelakefiredepartment.com/index.html)
Fred_Ginger = Fred and Ginger were my small dogs. They were born in 1991 (on St Patty's Day) and were a terrier/Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix, Ginger passed away in spring of 2005 and Freddy, Sept of 2006. I still miss the little devils so very much. And the stories I could tell....
I chose their names when I signed up for the SC official site as Vicki was already taken and I needed a name I could remember easily (I'm getting up there in age and sometimes Senior moments makes me forget things!) :D
Heh heh...
Masochist...well, if you don't know what a masochist is, you can
click right here (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/masochist) to find out. I assure you, I'm not one $%Grinno$%! It's just something I found out one day, thought it was a cool word, and decided to use it online to create an air of mystery. I don't know why it stuck with me, but I don't even really think about it's meaning anymore...it's just a name for me, now (although I think some people still might actually find it offensive).
As for Jet Warrior (which is a much more common screen name for myself online, as well as most of my e-mail address), I got that because the Japanese Kanji for the word 'warrior' looks like the word 'jet' to me...it was the first thing I thought when I first saw it...so yeah, Jet Warrior:

Shiftred is the color of my last motorcycle I had before I got the yellow one in my avatar. It is also my XBL name. On Simtropolis I am Bluepelican31. This name came from a friend and I palying on some CB's in 7th grade (1994). He said "Bluepelican to Red Rover... come in..." into the microphone. ::) 31 comes from what was first my 5th grade basketball jersey number and then one I had for various sports team in Junior high and High school.
Well mine is very unoriginal...Yoder happens to be my last name and 7652 is the last four digits of a very old phone number (no longer in use...at least not by me!). So presto-chango you get Yoder7652, pretty pathetic, huh &mmm :D

To quote C3PO - I believe the Yoda nick ..... "was my lot in life" Yes, many have called me that, but not those that know me. Yoder is an amish name, I'm two generations removed from the order (thank God...me likes the electricity!). I still have some family that is amish though.
"bat" is the animal which is looking like a mouse with wings (in german: "Fledermaus") ;)
As "from the ashes" is already english, I can only translate it to german: It means "aus der Asche". It doesn't have any meaning to me. It's just the name of one album the punkrock band "Pennywise" wrote. I don't really listn to punkrock anymore, I just want to keep that name.
Exile
hmm... well it is a name I have kept since I was 15 or so... just when I had moved to Germany, and I didn't have any friends. So I though at the time that Exile would be a fitting name...
I kept the name even though it didn't take me long to make friends down there. Though I guess it was kind of a though start for me, having to learn a new language and make new friends... and leaving my friends in Norway.
take care,
Mine has two meanings, the first, I played in a folk group in the 60s (although we still perform) in high school and it paid my way through college, we were of course The Shoremen. The second meaning involves my love of and devotion to Virginia's Eastern Shore (where folks are called Shoremen), I am technical director for the Palace Theatre in Cape Charles ( a 100 mile round trip from my home in Virginia Beach ( I know SimGoober lives here too)). The number is my street address since some yahoo already had Shoreman.
Well, mine came from being a NASCAR fan. My favorite driver was Rick Mast, so that's how the "rickmastfan" part of my screen name came to be. Plus, my last name is also Mast. The "67" part came from being a lifelong Pittsburgh Penguins fan since they are my home team. At the time I chose the 67, it was when the Pens still have Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr still on the team. Mario's number was #66 and Jagr's was #68. So, I chose the number in the middle, #67.
So, that's how I came up with my screenname. :)
my name is Icelandic for Sun. I think spanish is the same, although spanish and icelandic is very different.
Well most east coast Aussies will know what Tooheys is. It isn't my dog, my nickname, a local icon. It is something more important, a brand of amber fluid produced by JT & JM Toohey. I've been known to drink a drop or two, which may account for some of my more irreverent posts and replies.
How did it become my site name, well there was an empty can sitting on my desk in front of me when I signed up. It was either that or Samsung, I think I made the right choice.
My true blue name of David, well that means "beloved". Seems hard to believe as there isn't too much lovin' coming my way.
Cheers all
Dave
I came up with this a few years ago at age 11.... :D

Q-Tips doesnt have any meaning for me. My real name is Eilif. I was rather active on the forum to sortitoutsi.net with my real name as username. The sites server went down, and they had to build it all up again. So when i had to registrate over again i found out someone already had taken my name. While figure out what my username should be, i saw a box of q-tips on the table, an tought that could be just as good name as any other.
And while becoming member on this site, i didnt see any reason to use any other username.
The meaning of my real name goes all the way back to viking time, as many Norwegian name actually do. And at that time Eilif meant the one who love the life and all that lives. ;D
A Sobol is a type of Ferret.

Xiahou Dun was a general during the Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period in China. He served his distant cousin Cao Cao (Cao's father was related to Dun's father, however Cao's father was adopted into the Cao family), and was a model for dedication, loyalty, and modesty. If anyone is interested in reading some of his history, his Wiki has some good info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiahou_Dun
I LUV Romance of the 3 Kingdoms $%Grinno$%, I read up a lot on that stuff and I've played all of the games. Xiahuo Dun is a great general, I also liked Yuan Shao a lot for some reason, I think its a great name to pick, thanks for the info. Interesting stuff, my friend! I'm glad you posted that link.
WoW some very intresting names here and the meanings to them is very cool...
keep em coming in - pat
Bixel, you just gained many awesome points for saying Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Everyone I tell about my name always references Dynasty Warriors :'( RotTK is the second best game series ever, so its good to see people who actually know about it ;D When I first picked this name at a site years ago, I almost took Li Dian instead of Dun, but ultimately decided on this.
Thunder, the Wiki isn't entirely accurate though. The section about his military failures is kinda biased, since he still had far more successes than failures. He didn't become the highest ranked general for nothing.
Steg is just an internet name I've been using for quite a while now, but when I joined SCC someone already had that name, so I added the SC (for Simcity, of course!). I just carried that name over.
"gautie" is a shortened version of "Gauteng". Which is one of our provinces here in South Africa. I lived there with my hubby for two years and loved the place. On returning to my home province, ( Eastern Cape), my family used to tease me and call me "gautie".
"53" is part of the year I was born. 1953. ::) Now thats given my age away ;D
Just noticed this thread, thought I'd drop a line to settle the score once and for all regarding my forum name. As I have studied (only for like 3 months) Kernow (celtic language from Kernow, England) in highschool, I figured it would be neat if I could find a phrase to use over the internet (for e-mail, forums, etc.). Well, I happen to listen to Aphex Twin on occasion (electronic music), and around 2001, he released the album drukQs.
Well, I'll be darned if the track titles were written in Kernow. beskhu3epnm (track 14, disc 2) seemed to stand out for me, and I determined it to be "my song." Either that or nanou2, which sounds wussy.
I wasn't anticipating on contributing to any community anywhere, so it wasn't important to me to find a regularly pronouncable name. However....
Well the rest is history.
Using my mad skills at interpreting (and some help, and maybe a guess or two), the phrase translates more or less directly to "best be prepared" (beskt(h)zep - semi-silent z, just enough to get a hint of Z). If you are addressing me, just use beskh, works for everyone else.
Now I curse the name everytime I make a really good map release which is never.

So that's where it comes from! Very interesting. I do have a question, though. Does the "3" in your name and the song title translate in Kernow or was that just randomly thrown into the song title?
thundercrack83,
The "3" in the name makes a 'th' sound, heavy enough to make almost a 'z', but not quite. Kind of hard to explain...! That character is no longer used in Kernewek which makes the name somewhat archaic... In studying the language, only the older verses contained 3's. Other numbers are used as well, (you can see this almost has Cryllic-type uses) but are rare nowadays as well.

Fun thread!
My first name is Joan (pron. like Joan of Arc), and my last name is Sherrouse (pron. sure-OUSE [which rhymes with house]).
Years ago, I received some junk mail addressed to Joanne Shermouse and the "mouse" part sort of stuck with me. I even have a little bean-bag mouse atop one of my monitors. At ST I used newsmouse-1 since I'm a retired newspaper reporter.
*Edit* The avitar is a drawing I made for Mouse It!, my (former) Web site which featured Adobe Illustrator tutorials.*

thundercrack83,
The "3" in the name makes a 'th' sound, heavy enough to make almost a 'z', but not quite. Kind of hard to explain...! That character is no longer used in Kernewek which makes the name somewhat archaic... In studying the language, only the older verses contained 3's. Other numbers are used as well, (you can see this almost has Cryllic-type uses) but are rare nowadays as well.

OK, that makes sense now. I didn't make the Cyrillic connection at first. Great stuff, though, my friend! I find languages quite interesting!
Well, I suppose I should chime in here and explain my name as well. ( A couple of people have already heard the reasoning )
I am called Gaston in RL more often than my real name (Al). I recreate the middle ages (you know, knights in shinning armor stuff) as a hobby. It is a huge internation organization called the Society for Creative Anachronism or SCA for short. It is non-profit and we do this crazy stuff for "educational" purposes. Here is a link incase you wanna check it out> [ SCA (http://sca.org/) ]
Gaston LeMieux is the person I become while at these SCA events. Roughly a 13th century Fenchman. Gaston has a very long and interesting history. I won't bother ya'll with it here though. LOL But I play around with a few other personnas as well. The most bizzarre is probably the Japanese Ronin Samuri called White Dragon. I have used Gaston since the mid 80's when I first got involved with the SCA so it was just logical to use it on line. That is about it. Pretty simple if you know any of the pieces of the puzzle. ;D

Zane is my real name and quite frankly I have no idea what it means. ()what()
I'm known on some sites as "Zane900." I attained that username when registering on www.simcity.com. I was surprised to realize the the username 'Zane' had already been used! Zane really isn't a very popular name. Out of the 5000 kids at my school I'm still the only one with the name.
Me like. ()stsfd()
LoL zane that is wierd how it works out at times....

ROGA ME ALIQVID (Latin: ask me anything). Letters were pulled out of it to make Romaq. Mik-Maq.com is from 'Mikaela' (my wife's net handle) and Romaq'.
Kitsune, Japanse, tricky to pronounce. Simply means, Fox. But the legend behind Kitsune is quite deep, and I never found out about until two-three years after I started using the nick. And yeah, I am a guy. My name on ST is Anung Mwka. Thats my aboriginal name, Ojibwa for, Star Bear. I use Kitsune everywhere, about 99.9% of the forums I'm on. AM if used as back up, as I guarantee that no one uses it.... :)
I live in Belfast, go to Queens University and I'm a guy :D
Hey (First post over here)
I'm from the North, my names Jon and 79 was my year of birth. Pretty much says it all.
My first name is Steven. But I'm not sure what it means on the other side of the world. But I do love my name though. Last name is Whitehouse. I tend to use a joke with my Last name. I usually like to say to my friends you can call me Mr. President :D :D. It's nice to have fun with your name sometimes.
Your Friend;

My username's supposed to be SpecialEddie (as it is in ST) but during registration, a weird bug switched my username and actual name. And well, here I am.

ok, the real story behind my username is from when i was in highschool
me and my friend adrian were having a rough time in the little town in tennessee we lived in. we got fed up one day. we were in the middle of lunch, we walked out to talk and somehow the conversation lead to us wanting to go to new york. so we littereally packed up in the middle of lunch, and ran away tio new york city. take it to say, it didnt end up well. we stayed for a few days, then had to go back home. we ran out of money, and our parents were worried, and they had put out an amber alert because we were under 18. we were in serious trouble when we came back. not with the cops, but with our parents. lol
anyways, we all do things like that when we are younger. the screenname just kind of stuck with me since i was in highschool so many years ago.... man, its been 5 years since i was in highschool, jeesh, im getting old too.... lol
Mine is a relic from when I used to play games over the network in my house with my dad. We used to play the Worms series of games, and I always named my team Swampers, with Swamper as team captain. The other team members were named with various "disgusting" names such as Slime and Mud. At the time, I had a thing for swamps and wetlands.
In 2003, I joined ST with the name Swamper77 because someone had already reserved the Hotmail address I wanted (swamper) and one of their recommendations was swamper77. 7 happens to be one of my lucky numbers, so I stuck with it. When I joined SC4D, I just used the same name as I use on some other sites on the web.
In my LARP group, I get called by "Swamper" as that is the name of the character that I usually play in one of the two games that the group runs. My other character for the other game is Krys Emlyn. I used this name to also secure an YIM account and an AOL account for chat purposes since "Swamper" was already taken for these services. I will respond to both Swamper and Krys Emlyn, as well as my real name that I have revealed to this site, Jan. Only two other sites I visit know my real name, and one of those is membership by invitation only.
-Jan
Well, my name IRL is Marius, but on the internet and in conversation with so many people from so many linguistic backgrounds it usually gets quite a beating when it comes to pronunciation and I have accordingly adopted the shorter version "M" IRL and -M- on the net (as I can't 'speak' the dashes :P It would be dashemdash)
It kind of stuck.
Also I am M4346 on THIS particular forum because it won't allow dashes! Boo-hoo! :'( hehe
The 4346 are the last four digits of my mobile number. lol

I took off to NYC a few times when I was in high school, though I live in PA, not Tennessee! I was able to go and come back within the same day, so my parents didn't know about it. I did the same thing with Atlantic City, NJ, a few times, too. Those were the days...
Myself, I simply took the first two letters from my first, middle, and last name, to come up with vistla. Come to find out, it's also a river that flows through Warsaw, Poland. I certainly didn't mean to imply that coincidence.
mine was the name of the first thing on the web i created, Me and 2 friends created a forum on invisionfree, about 7 years ago, i thought of the name startorturer

Late EDIT: Reply #104 gives a more extensive explanation. ::)
My name is from the very first fish I caught on my first fishing trip when I was a mere 3-years old. Nothing to exciting, but gave me a name to use online.
When I first got on the Internet in somthing like 1997 I was confronted with the unexpected challenge to choose a nickname. As I were never popular enough in school to earn a steady (and somewhat cool %wrd ) nickname I had to make something up. In those days I still had my Commodore Amiga 500 set up in my room and was playing the game "Rick Dangerous 2". So this was the first name that came to my mind. But as it was too long I had to make it a bit shorter (in those days I thought it was very cool to use capital letters in the middle of words ::) ).
Sometimes I think about changing to a different nick, but I've been using this one for over 10 years now, so I think I have stick to it.

Welcome to page three!
err... i have no reason for using "xiziz" at all, no apparent point and it has no meaning whatsoever in any language i know of. Try googling XD youll even find more pictures of ST-members old and or current avatars than mine :P
It originated when my cousin came up with a nickname for playing quake(i just used my RL name at the time). and as he was my elder cousin, and someone i looked up to immensly, i had to have a cool nickname too. and after filling half a schoolbook with diffrenent combinations my 10 year old mind stuck with "Xiziz"... Problem is... you guessed it, try and pronounce it!
Hence in light of this problem ive gone through a few modifications, i got some help in the St-chat one day like two/three years ago(back when it was new and i was a regular...), "Kusisis"(in various spellings), which later evolved into "Kushisu", and after getting patronized by a friend for some random think it got a prefix, "Sankto Kushisu", in due time i even got a prefix added, when more of my friends got to waching Anime they tagged on -chan.
So nowadays its "Sankto Kushisu-chan", and with my studying Japanese at Stockholm University, i guess it fits in good, as its actualy pronouncable in Japanese(not the Sankto, Sankuto would work, so il probably have that replaced soon enough too...).
I did have a period of using the name i was going to be named before i was born and dad objected to much, "Madison". just because i would rather have had that name than my given name, so much cooler XD
Though i tend to register as "Xiziz" anyway, that way people recoginze me, and its stuck in my muscle memory too.
I usually think of your name being said as "Ex-Zizz"

My nickname was given me at my time in the Hamburg Fire dept.
It is a parody of the Ernie & Bert Show, called Bernie & Ert and changed somewhen after a 3-day duty (Fire in the isolation of a freezen storage) in 'Boernie'. Firefighters are very creative when there are tired.. ;D

What's in a name eh?
Well, here in Australia back in the 50s, there were a series of television commercials for a product known as Manos Chicken. There were two stars of these commercials, one was the Boss and the other was Fernby, the Boss's sidekick. Fernby would ask questions relating to the chicken, and the Boss would explain things. Simple, right.
So, when I first started a job many years ago (when I was younger), my boss at that time called me Fernby because I was just getting started in the workforce, and i was always asking questions ("how do you do that?? etc etc), which reminded him of Fernby.
Thats how I got my nickname Fernby.
Oh, the horror! The horror!!!
Well, I was wondering about people's user names, so reading this has told me!
Mine is the first two letters of my first, middle and surnames:
PAul RObert CHapman - PAROCH.
I kind of imagine it is pronounced PARROCK. Nobody calls me this in RL, where I am either Paul or more usually Chappers :)
I also use paroch when playing poker on-line.
Mine is pretty easy to guess the meaning of. I'm a fan of the trio (though if I recall correctly there have been 5 different characters over time) as well as the Marx Brothers. It's my nickname over at ST and was inspired by the picture used in the avatar (it's also framed over my desk). The dog in my avatar is from the cover art of a comic strip book: Citizen Dog (http://www.gocomics.com/citizendog/).
umm...kinda like Xiziz (i pronounce it Ziz-iz, all Z's and I's), my name has no real meaning.
Actually, no it does have meaning
the "dragon" part signifies that I like dragons, and the "shardz" part means that i am easily distracted at times.
the only reason it's "dragonshardz" instead of "dragonshards" is...
...ooooo, shineeeeee!
huh? what? oops. anyway, the "z" sounds and looks better.
EDIT: and paroch, i pronounce your name "par-roch".
My name is basic...well...I like Godzilla...and I am a dude...
:P
well i love grey goose vodka and my local pub is called the goose so and one day i doodle a picture of a goose with an eyepatch, and scrawled mightygoose under it.... i kinda stuck in my head and has been my online nick for everything ever since...
paroch, i always pronounce it per-ock.... thinking it was foreign....
I never heard of Goose Vodka actually mightygoose, but then again..I'm not a big vodka fan. If I do drink alcohol(which is very rare) I like a beer or tequilla. Btw I just noticed this thread, nice of it to 'pop up' :)
For a few years I have been making music/DJ-ing under the name of Capo di Carpenti. My RL last name is Timmerman, which is Carpenter in English. Capo is Italian for head (as in leader) and the name is a sort of a mix of Italian, French and English and for me it means 'head of all carpenters'. In short I just use capo, that's why :)
TopCliff doesn't really mean anything. Well, it does, but it's lame. The first city I built when I got SC4 was these two giant mesas with little villages on them. I think I called it Twin Peaks, and the mayor's name was . . . Topcliff. So I just went with it, because my other mayor names were either stupid or extremely dirty. Yeah . . . :P
Haljackey
And, no, my real name isn't Haljackey. It isn't Hal either (for those who have been quoting me as Hal being my name, its not :P).
Honestly, it really has no meaning. It was just a random name I came up with when I needed a username for the game Earth and Beyond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_And_Beyond), hence the name in my avatar. I sat in at my computer chair for over an hour and the name just popped in my head. Pretty crazy, eh?
Anyways, E&B (Earth and Beyond) was a fantastic game (second only to SC4) for those who haven't played it. It was the first major MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) ever made and set the standard for other games we see today (like World of Warcraft, which I don't play). When EA bought Westwood (Westwood was the company that made the game), it announced that it was canceling it. Every single server was taken down just a few months later, and, just like that, the game vanished. Currently, there is a small group of devoted folks (just like us @ SC4D) that are determined on emulating the game and getting a server back up and running.
I am getting a little off topic. So anyways, that's where I got my username from!
Best,
-Haljackey

My old dog's name was "Goi", but, I don't know why, we sometimes used to call him "kokonus". Requiescat In Pace (RIP). :'(
Hmmm I think my name is self evident, though I took it on many years ago back in teh days of BBS's (for those of you who remember these things, like wildcat boards, and DLX and Searchlight BBS's) and because I've played CB style games since they first came out as my main stape of gaming and I've carried it through when I created my citybuildergames.com website and so far, (knock on wood) Sierra and or EA hasn't come after me for taking that domain name. I believe they had a problem with a person who had a domain that had the words city builder in it in the past.
I used this name first at RuneScape. MRTN is actualy my name without any vowels. RLN was first LRN (which I only know what that means), but when my first RS-account was hacked, my second account was named MRTNRLN. Since then I kept that name.
Mine too. frdrck is frederick. lim is my last name. I also go with the name mildirk. mil is backwards for lim and dirk has something to do with freDERicK but I changed the e to i.
Wes Janson..
I'm a star wars nerd, not much else to say.

Btw - I've already posted in this thread. But this explanation is better (more extensive). :P
My nickname derived from my normal name, which is Casper Van Gheluwe. :)
mrbisonm.....
When I shot a bison (buffalo) in the northwest territories some 25 years ago and completely missed it, he decided to run after me, while my freaking rifle got stuck with a bullet, and that was seen by my two best friends who were hunting with me........ever since then they call me Mr Bison....and the "m" at the end is a typing error because of my big fingers, and I didn't verify what I wrote as the name to open my e-mail and I hit enter.....t'was too late, so I kept it like this, mrbisonm................... &mmm
Btw, the bison got away in one piece.......so did I.
mrbisonm, I must say that is one of the best "big one that got away" stories I've ever heard!
Joan
I think I was probably studying Romeo and Juliet at university when I came up with my username. I've been using it for a few years now.
Mr. B love that big tale of a story!!! girlfromverona love your story as well!!!
My nick is absolutely random, IIRC the first SC4 site I registered on was Simtropolis, which kept telling me the nicks I tried were already assigned, so I decided to see whether "Unassigned" was assigned too...it wasn't ::)
So to be consistent I use that nick on SC4 sites (if it is not already assigned to someone else). On other gaming fora I have nicks picked from the works of Iain M. Banks, such as "Amtiskaw" and "Zefla".
well now, I have 3 (i cant remember if i have posted before but meh)
this one (JoeST)is my first name and the first two letters of my old nic (star.torturer) i creted this one as .'s were not alowed on IRC channels which I have recently been joining
star.torturer was a name created by me for a forum (on one of them free forum hosting places) created by me and my friends years ago, this was in an attempt to challenge another friends community cause at that time we didnt like him LOL, I then took the name as i thought it was a quite original one and it turns out it was.
and my newest one, FallingBullets was created while i was in bed, i was thinking of rioters and cowboys shooting in the air iraticaly and then wondered what happened to all the bullets, if a falling bullet would be of great danger... I was wanting a new anonymous username for use as the old star.torturer one just got used as a flaimbaiting weapon about torture... LOL
I just find it quite surprising how my nick's are mine and only mine, they are unique and original to me, and how if you google my nicknames you get my forum accounts LOL
Joe
My nick is the same way, though there's this other thing that comes up that happens to be some stange RPG called Dragon Shardz.
Go figure eh?
I was playing RuneScape (my username there was Simmaniac5, strangely) when I joined Simtropolis and just decided to use Warrior, then when I joined SC4D I just stuck with Warrior, although I do get fed up of it a lot.
Haha Unassigned has a hilarious story behind it.
Well, well, this has been a rather informative read, hasn't it just - I scanned - but no explanation for Wou's name. Domage.
My two online names are rather prosaic: "HandsOn" because that's waht I tend to be and it thus became my companies name when I started IT contracting. And DocRorlach elsewhere, because that happens to be the title and my last name. The only interesting part is actually a translation I was once given: Rorlach, some centuries ago, meant "from the lake (or loch - German, not Scottish), and my first name Peter is of course Greek for stone. Thus the stone from the lake (more like a puddle, though)..
el_cozu: in english "THE cozu", I am from an island called Cozumel, Mexico. therefore, my nickname where I live now is Cozu. so... I am "the cozu" here in Monterrey, Mexico. Imagine if you are from New York and went to live to Los Angeles, your nickname would be "hey you! Newy..." or "come here, yorky!!" something like that lol!
Oscar (my real name): from the german "ansgar" which means "the spear of the gods"... pretty simple.
CommodoreTech....
Well, I like the word Commodore, and I put the Tech bit on just randomly I guess. Nothing to do with my real name. Although, it is quite awkward to shorten... Commo? Sounds like Commie, and seeing I lack a sense of Communism it is alas wrong. Tech is irrelevant lol....
Moh-well.
Simmaster07 is really simple -- I'm the master of sims. :P Though this didn't just apply to SimCity and The Sims. When I said "sim," I wanted it to mean any type of simulation. The 07 at the end means I joined in the year 2007 on Simtropolis. Even though it is 2008, I still put use the screen name with 07 at the end. (Silly me ::)) Though now I am registering on some sites as TheSimMaster. Could've been shorter... I feel like I told my life story. :P
The Glazert is the name of the burn (stream) that runs along the foot of a range of hills near me.
Frank van Unen is my full name (except the Michaël that goes between the "Frank" part and the "van" part).
In one of my former jobs the system administrator gave me the system name FrankU, like other colleagues were called JurS, JohnR, IngeborgL etc....
I kept it, because it is handy, simple and therefore I will not forget it easily (getting old and full of memories). It is already complex enough to remember all those passwords. So everywhere you will find me as FrankU. And, of course, if there is no FrankU there is no me.
Mine is pretty obvious. It's an orange juice-and-milk drink! Available at your local mall, if you're lucky (and if it's not, it more than likely used to be there)
Back in middle school I was frequently called a nerd by people who usually were black and very apathetic as far as nerdly_things go. When I made myself an email address I decided to shove that back in their faces, so I came into the iWorld as nerdly_dood@yahoo.com. Since you just type in your username for most Yahoo services and games, nerdly_dood seemed easy to remember and not very common, and I use the same username on every site I sign up for to make it easy for me ... so here I am.
My SC4D nic, metarvo, is simply a random word that I made up. At least, I had never heard it before. It doesn't really mean anything at all, to my knowledge.
metarvo, to check that you should google it ;D

I've been
RJ in other places and needed to come up with something that could be shortened to RJ when registering for the SimCity world.
Ripple was rather easy... I'm living on an island surrounded by them. :)
To come up with something for the J was more difficult... and I didn't want it to be too long.
While trying to figure something up I was working on a project involving boats with WaterJet engines... &idea
Since I didn't come up with anything better, I finally just picked the Jet from there.

Herdervriend is a combination of the dutch word Herder that means Sheppard and vriend what means Friend. I love dogs, and mostly white sheppards. Also I want some friends and find dogs are the best there exicts. So that is the meaning of my name. Also, the other names I wanted were already choosen on MSN:xD:

OK, I seem to have inadvertently caused this discussion to go very much off-topic with my trekkie remark.
I suggest to leave this topic for it's true intentions (after all, it IS called "What does your name mean?") and if we want to start off a trekkie discussion, let's start a fresh topic. (And I'm looking eagerly to any moderator to suggest to me where I can start such a topic)

Oh, dear. What does my name mean...? I'm not even sure myself! :-[
Let me at least say that my real name is not Albus! I simply chose the name because 1. It sounds more prestigious than my real name Jason and 2. It's the name of my favorite book character of all time.
The Garaway part...I truly have no idea. ???

Well, my name have been taken from my 3rd favourite Pink Floyd (you expected it ::)) called - you got it! - Sheep ;D
And why 49? Because I'm adding it at the end of every username I have ;)
my name have been taken from my name - Art for Arthur - and the numbers for my birthday date 1 for 11 th month and 28 for the day (i was born the 28 November 1994 )
Mine : "blakesterville" , souns kinda weird , itcomes from my name(obviously , Blake)I have been called blakester in the past and I put "ville" on top of that because it was simcity related :).
I love animal names in Spanish. My name is two animals mashed together...
Cabra = Goat
Buitre = Vulture
I just really like both those words... no other real meaning, unless you count the time when I was about 5 and my grandma asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I said a goat...
LoL almost 2yrs and now I know the meaning of your name goat vulture wow that is intense!!!! I that is sooo wicked!!!!
I was at one time (I may pick it up again, but it's been a while) writing a Buffy/Potter fanfic series titled "Lady Liberty".

Hi, All.
What does my name mean? I'd love to give you a real esoteric answer but the plain truth is that it is a nickname of my surname.
Regards,

Hm, well to add me in here, Lilojame is a music grupe here in Slovenia for one, but I am not such a fan of them. For the second the name comes out from the 5th Element movie, you know, Bruce "the-bloodiest-the-better" Willis starring and the Lilo (Lilojame) (I believe it was Mila Jovovič/Jovovich). Anyhow, it sounded good to me. :D
As for my real name it means "pure". :D

anyone who understands dutch will know what my username means (for those of you who don't: WC=toilet and EEND=duck)
furthermore, i use that nickname everywhere (exept on steam, where you'll find me as [UC]Borat) and it's easy to remember and not frequently used by anyone else. I also think WC EEND used used to be somethink to clean your toilet, not quite sure about that one though

I can't believe I never posted here, so here goes. My username has an unusual beginning. It is sort of a derivative of my surname, but convoluted as to how that came about: when I worked at McDonald's like 20 years ago; a couple coworkers and I would chuckle ::) when someone would call the hash browns "homefries." Eventually it somehow developed into a nickname for me! As for the spelling, when I signed on to my first ISP in the mid 1990s, I decided that would be a great username; however the correct spelling was unavailable ... so I changed the "i" to a "y" ... and thus "homefryes" was born! I've used it everywhere since. ()stsfd()

46Bit was simply a mix around of 64-bit, to do with computer binary for those who don't know ;).

Mine is a combination of two nicknames I was given. I was the younger of two Jons at one of my jobs, so the boss started calling me Jon-Boy which eventually just shortened to JB. I've worked with this person at several camps and JB is still the only name I'm really known by at those places. "Simio" came from my days at Applebee's... where most of the cooks were Mexican and gave the remaining few of us Spanish nicknames. "Simio" means monkey... which I think I got because I would climb up onto shelves to reach things (or maybe it's just that I have big ears... who knows?) I mashed the two together and got JBSimio. ;)
I have posted here before. :P But I deleted my post a few seconds ago...
My name is a long story (not really), it at first is a few keys I pushed (because I couldn't think of one) when I first registered at a site, some while ago. I guessed it stayed. Then I started making excuses to what it meant. ::) I finally came to the conclusion that in English my name means one one, because un, in French is one and 1 is one.
-un1
First of all: this is a quite interesting topic!
The origin of my name is very simple
Alan_vzla
Alan: My name, it's a common name on english speaking countries, but here it's fairly uncommon. My parents decided to name me like this because when my mom was pregnant, they were watching the news and there was one regarding the peruvian president in that time, which happened to be reelected on the last elections, Alan García... anyway, they liked the sound of it and decided to name me like that.
_: no explanation... only to separate ;D
vzla: it's the most common abbreviation of Venezuela, where I was born and actually live... we're actually living a bad political moment, but if you have a chance to visit us, do it, you will see what a beautiful country this is.
That's my name on most of the sites I'm registered, but you will also find me under the name of alanvzla, al_4ever, al4ev and others... ;)
First time here (I think...)
Hmm...my name. Well the letters kj are my initials, and the 3400....Well if I told you the real secret, I'd have to kill you. :D
Well, I suppose I should add my own boring story...
Several years ago I signed into SimTrop for the first time. Before this I had always used a variation of my real name (initials and such) on any site I registered on. But on that sight it seemed everyone had a different name, and I figured I should follow suit. But I felt like such a Goober making up some glorious name for myself..... So SimGoober came to be.
Here in Virginia, a Goober is an old nick name for peanuts, something we grow a lot of. So I used to make subtle jokes about nuts, which mostly I got blank stares from. Then there is of course the very last lot I uploaded to the STEX....
Just my alter-ego. $%Grinno$%
LoL goober I remember when you uploaded goober nuts lol it was great!!!! I love that lot today and chuckle every time it grows in my cities!!!
Elektra hmmm alter ego eeh!!! hmmm there is a cure for that one ;D
Yeah I think its some of Simgoober's Fukitol growing in my city. $%Grinno$%
Well simsamerica is simple, two reasons I guess, simsamerica doesnt mean I like the game sims but I like simulations, actually primarily NASCAR sims, and the america comes from that I like american games and Im american.
it means my name is Leo ::)
and its spelled with number 0 at the end, not letter O.
why is to make it slightly more unique.
Terring was a character from the book "The Valley of the Roses". Just ignore the number because it was an accident
It just sort of popped in there! I thought knuckleball sounded like a fun name so I went with it. :D
SG, although I currently live in VA aswell, im not a VA native and where Im from I think goober kinda means problem so youd be SimProblem :P, to note, im from the Planet Mars &hlp this is what happened when our kind went to the sun, no im from Alabama, but my kind have headed toward the sun (the Saturn 5 resides in Alabama).
Antimony is a chemical element that I liked the name of. A cat is a small feline, often popular as a domestic pet :).
Well, oddly enough I feel kind of vulnerable disclosing this here, just because I've never seen it come up and I'm afraid the greats, the people I idolize here, the people whose work has inspired me to contribute to this wonderful community, will look down upon it. But I suppose that's not fair to impose that upon myself, the fear of judgement by others, just as it would be unfair to judge me for it...
Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC) is the chief psychoactive ingredient in cannabis and cannabis products. That's what my name comes from. For the sake of honesty, most of the time that I am playing SC4, or perusing SC4D, or doing any recreational activity, I am also smoking or have just smoked a bowl of, you guessed it, high-potency bud.
The name came about when I was still in high school. That should pretty much explain it all. It started as Delta 9 and by the time I got here, it had gradually been shortened to lowercase with no spaces, because I kept getting confused between different sites, because some would allow spaces, some wouldnt, etc... Going back about ten years, when I was 11 or 12, I started using the moniker dftonz645 on GameFAQs.com. The Deftones were my favorite band (and still hold a dear place in my heart for their first 3 albums) and 645 was the second half of my school ID #. This was shortened to Dft on the Pearl Drummers Forum. When the GameFAQs board I frequented split off into an independent board in lieu of moderation changes, my new name was Delta 9, because well, I smoked a lot of pot and liked to advertise it, like a dumbass late-teenager would. However, the name has stuck since then, because I really have no reason to change it, and because it carries many special memories to me on that board I created it on, just because of the closeness of that board and that it was during an important part of my life. Amazing how one could say that about a message board, huh?
So there's mine. Hopefully I'm not typecast as a dirty stupid pothead from now on! Because I am only one of those three things :D
And mine: io is from my name - Ioan, and bg is the abbreviation of the country where I live - Bulgaria (it's in Eastern Europe, on the Balkans, for those who don't know).

Mine came from AOL
Back when I bought my first ever PC in 1996(a gateway that came with a HUGE 5 gig HD lol), I signed up for AOL, since I had one of those disc's that said 1 month free if you sign up. I filled it out with my name, address, birthday, etc and when it came to picking a screen name, I picked one that had already been taken(it was pro wrestling related because I like Pro Wrestling) and one of the suggestions that it stated was mike3775. Basically all it is is my first name, and my birthdate. Ever since, I use the same screen name everywhere
ok, i'll bite.
i have to skip the gory details, as its totally not appropriate.....here, nor anywhere.... ;D
lets just say, following a night of alcohol-fueled debauchery, i awoke to a new nickname of 'Daryl Dawkins'......they tell me that the name was inspired by his most famous dunk, from which i shortened to my current screenname.
.....
doesn't sound so interesting when i put it like that.... &mmm

Well, I guess I should post here, nothing really exciting....sithlord goes back to the Compuserve days, I am a pretty big fan of bad guys , who are sometimes misunderstood ;D
Because at a later date , AOL absorbed Compuserve , and by that time I had gone to another ISP , when I decided to go to AOL , sithlord was already taken , so I decided to shorten it to sithlrd , which also was taken so I just added the year I got married 98 , and it has gone with me since. However , I really think its time for a change , just not sure what it should be!

In that case we would have to ban

My name hails from a couple of songs off this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantity_Is_Job_1) largely forgotten album and band. As most of you have guessed I translated it into pidgin/grammatically incorrect German. The good thing is that I've never seen this name used by anyone else, so it makes for a good forum and online gaming alias.
It's pretty simple, and has absolutely nothing to do with my given name and nothing to do with what I do.
Cheers!

How I got my username (or "callsign", as I refer to it) has been a bit of a mystery to me. I know where it came from, but am at a loss of how it became what it did.
Years ago (as in three, four or possibly five, by now), I was into taking apart and modifying a free online racing game called "Need For Madness". I was in the business of modifying the code for the tracks, and then giving out my addons. This was my first experience - ever - with game modding. One of the unlockable vehicles in that game was named "Radical One".
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm3.static.flickr.com%2F2079%2F1860906038_fd318e08e2.jpg%3Fv%3D0&hash=2cb3f39b5ec6c64443f4f3e99726d67fed35702a)
Over time, that name somehow became what people referred to me as, and since I had always thought of it with verbal emphasis on the second syllable - and therefore disposing of the possible extremist connotations - I apparently went with it. Somewhere along the line, the space was lost, forming my current callsign of "RadicalOne", which I have used (or "1RadicalOne" if "RadicalOne" is unavailable) as my callsign everywhere, including Freewebs, YouTube, SC4Devotion, Hotmail, Wikipedia, Photobucket, Simtropolis, my Windows Username, and I have even put "R1" on my license plate.
Anyone else have a similar story?
My name is as follows...
Tx = Texas
Rail = my other hobby (railroads/model trains)
Cat = The mascot (Wildcats) of the local high school
74 = my birth year.
Cyclone1001:
Cyclone- another name for a hurricane, which one was headed towards my house when I created "Cyclone1001" (I have used this name since 2003, somewhere on the Internet.)
1001- My favorite radio station was 100.1 FM, so take out the . and you have 1001.
Mine is rather simple, as I gamed alot with a whole lot of systems like AD&D, Rifts, Battle Tech... Primarily AD&D... Anyways when I was DM for a friend I kinda' created a basic language.. Not so many words and still unfinished... Tamorr simply means Adventurer.... And the race that uses that language I had also created for the AD&D unverse along with many others. Drop the last R and it becomes Precious in other unfinished language of a different race.... That would be the Se'rnkas and Sarivaks... two of many races I have created for the Universe...
It still stands as a hobby, but I used the first one for a very very long time. If anyone has it I'd have to wonder where they got it from since I don't belive it is ever used in any existing langauge, name or otherwise. Almost makes it easy to pick a tag name as I call it.... :)
Joelyboy911. Joel is my first name. yboy represents the fact that I am male. 911, this is not intended to be the date of a terrorist attack, nor is it the emergency number in the United States, but infact I chose it randomly many years ago when I made my first ever internet site account, on Neopets.
My screen name is kinda old, at least for me. I first made it back in 2001 when I was in the eighth grade. Actually, I needed to create an account at tripod.com for a school group project where we were making a website. Jimbo was a nickname a couple of my friends at the time called me, which I barely heard then, and hardly ever since, and JJ is just my initials. I thought about changing it a couple of times when I created accounts on other sites, including here, but it's stuck with me this long, so I'm Jimbo_JJ. ;D
My user name was taken from my old phone number.
My user name is music related. When I had joined Sc4Devotion, I had just listened to the Norwegian band Enslaved, also few weeks earlier I had bought the DVD "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and finding out that Enslaved's main music topic was vikings, that is where my name comes from.
adroman is taken from my best friend's old nickname for me... As my real name is Adrian...
by the way, it isn't spelt androman... like some have spelt it... I'm no robot! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android)
Havva good one
My username came from quite a while ago when on XBL I was also challenging my friends to drifting competitions. And I (almost; only a few times lost) always won. My friends started calling me "Driftmaster" and the name stuck.
I wish I knew where my username came from.
Back when I first needed a username for something, for some odd reason, "Haljackey" just popped into my head. It worked, so I used it. (And have until this day!) :P
Hmmm... I guess I use canyonjumper for the same reason as Haljackey. I didn't want a name that was stupid, and i didn't want to use my real name, because I wanted to be original. And canyonjumper came into my head.
My current username is now MRTNRLN. The meaning of the last three letters have changed from time to time. The first four letters stand for Maarten and the whole stands for Maarten's Real Name ;D
Currently I use Mandelsoft as username on any other site (beside SimTropolis). By the way, does anyone know how to change your username? I see that some people have changed theirs (like Johnatan, previously named warrior). I suppose only administrators have the rights to change them.

Out of curiosity, what's the story behind Mandesoft as username?
Well, some programs ask for data during installation, like your name and company. We always fill in MandelSoft. The name is a combination of the well-known company MicroSoft and the other part is named after a fractal, the Mandelbrot Set. That's how you get MandelSoft ;)
For those who aren't fammiliar with fractals; fractals are shapes that repeat theirselfs. The one I'm refering to, the Mandelbrot Set, looks like this:

EC, from the beginning of ecoba, are my initials, and at the time of making my first internet accounts, I didn't want to use my real name, so I added oba, and it sounded okay together so it stuck. The town I live in's name also begins with an A. So I can also think of it as EC of A, slightly modified, because in my opinion, ecofa does not sound as good as ecoba.
Also doing something from the beginning of the thread, here's my Lord of The Rings Name.I found it interesting.
According to the Red Book of Westmarch,
In Middle-earth, Ethan was a

I'm still gonna just reply to ecoba, or Ethan. Also I'm curious as well as to how to change usernames, as Maartan
(mrtnrln) stated earlier on the page.
Ethan
I (rather creatively) decided to use my real name for some reason, i was probably tired or in a bad mood at the time. &mmm
Normally (on other sites and stuff) i just put the first thing that comes into my head, unless of course it's innappropriate (which it usually is) :P
gking is my name... g.king
i use another alias/username @ simtropolis/simpeg. i think i have created an account under the other alias, but i forget what the password is, so i will keep going with what i use now.
Kevin is my first name, while AJ is the first letters of my 2 last names, hence kevinaj. Another fact is that kids in my school usually call me Kevin AJ or KAJ.
Nijomi is simply the first two letters of my first, middle and surname. :D

Hey there concreteBuilder,
I used to live in Hanover Park and in Stickney or Berwyn as USPS calls it there lol...
@ Ethan if you want to change your username here you will need to talk with a administrator about it and I bet you will have no problems at all ;-)
Sorry for reviving, but I just found this thread. In other forums, I will get a warning for this. But the people here are good enough to let that. Why can't revive threads in other forums (non-SC4D).
Anyways my user name has my name and one of my interests, airplanes.
daryl-my name
7478-Boeing 747-8
I find it as a quite unique user name. Just like my Youtube account, daryl380.
daryl-same as above

Ben Gunn was a pirate (from the R.L. Stevenson story Treasure Island). If I remember correctly he was marooned there by his crew.He was
somewhat crazy(from being alone???),but he knew where the treasure was hidden. It is thought that came from the old Scottish clan Gunn.
coincidentally was just asking about some user names on Simpeg.
The first site I ever joined was Simtropolis - tried many different usernames, but all were taken. I wanted something related to urban planning. Greenbelts are the green spaces, usually just outside the CBD. Often acting as major transportation corridors with landscaped medians.
When I finally got around to adding an avatar, I wanted something green. I found a site with many paintings of the 'Earth-Mother' or Gaya. One of the images had a green face and body. Lost that avatar somewhere and couldn't find it again. Now I use this other image of Gaya. At least she has green hair.
my name is really odd I know but I've been using this name a very long time as a pseudonym, I also always use Shinkansen & Pirat007
Just the 007 because it's simple to remember. And the Peter was just entering my mind at that single day when I was registering for a browser game and the name stayed to me but my RL name is Ernst so it isn't like it
This topic has my name written all over it.
In a land far far away (4 years ago to be exact, on Christmas Eve), I was trying to come up with a profile name for my Myspace. Couldn't think of anything at the time, and I do believe I was drinking a pepsi at the time. There, the idea hatched: Pepsibottle1
Here's why I came up with that:
1.) It is original.
2.) Very catchy indeed
3.) Noone that I know of would ever think of using that as their username.
Also a few notes about that. I actually hate Pepsi with a passion. I only drink Coke and Coke products only. If I'm at a restauraunt and they do happen to serve Pepsi, I'll go with Dr. Pepper or Sweet Tea. The ONLY time I will ever drink a Pepsi is if I do happen to be really thirsty and there is no alternative. That day, I just so happened to be drinking a bottle of Pepsi. Plus, "Cokebottle" dosen't have the same epic factor to it, and I don't want to change my username (god knows how many forums I've regestered this name on. Google it and you can find all of my accounts. Kinda scary, huh?)
So that's how my name came to be about.
Funny I never noticed this topic. Despite what people may think, the name nickname Battlecat has absolutely nothing to do with a certain Saturday morning cartoon that I've never actually seen.
I first used the name for what became my main character in City of Heroes which I started playing right when it launched. As soon as I heard what powers were available in the game, the concept for the look and powers just popped into my head. For those who know the game, he was a Claws/Super Reflexes scrapper who wound up being extraordinarily effective despite his defenses being "gimped". I still prefer playing him over just about every other alt in the game.
Anyhow, it wound up becoming the name I was known by in the game for more than 5 years. From there I just started using it wherever I could get the username since it pretty much became my default online identify.
I've always been fascinated by the pre-columbian civilizations. (Mediterranian archeology too actually, specially Egypt)
So inca was een obvious choice.
The 1987 is just a quick 1 and a finger drumroll of 9 8 and 7 (like drumming yer fingers on the table) - short n sassy, quick n simple.
Well my user name is my real name. My first name is Jack and my middle name is Sunny (No really my middle name really is sunny. I swear!!!) They make up jacksunny! ;D
Piplup (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Piplup_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29 (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Piplup_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29)) + Picard (memory-alpha.org/wiki/Jean-Luc_Picard (http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Jean-Luc_Picard))
Oh, how I could go on and on and on about my username... And yet I just found this thread; I didn't know such a thread existed...
First, I wanna inform you that this is the same username I have used for many other sites (deviantART and YouTube) and have, from time to time, explained the strange significance of my name. Since I used this name for deviantART first, I'll quote the first part of the explanation from deviantART. The first quote is the most self-explanatory, and the second quote explains more of the history.
Quote
Something odd about me is my username:
- The G-DO part is derived from my RL initials.
- The 29 is symbolic of where I live. (I like to get people to wonder what it means...)
- The "Anagram" part is really symbolic; In particular, the name "Ganaram" is derived from the letters in the word "Anagram". I used to cap my name off with "ghhh" so at one point it was GDO29ghhh. Sounds terrible.
- I use this name everywhere. Even outside of the HTF field... If you find me again in some other thing, don't be surprised... Other variants are "Ganaram DI" and the hyphen-less "GDO29Anagram."
Quoted from: http://comments.deviantart.com/5/36454138/1754816933
QuoteWhat does your Deviantart name mean and why?
G-DO-29--Anagram (Oh how I could go on explaining the significance...): Originally it should've been either GDO29ghhh or X-Boh Rok-X Ganaram, cuz prior to HTF, my mind was set to Bionicle. GDO29ghhh was what I called my Bionicle self (No illustration of that ever existed mind you...) and when my mind began to shift to HTF, one other interest I had was Runescape, so I compiled my Runescape avatar, whose name was Xbohrokx, into an HTF (Blue porcupine, taller than most HTF's), and I butchered the name and added an anagram of the word "Anagram," thus creating the name "X-Boh Rok-X Ganaram." Note: My interest in Bionicle began to fall as my interest in HTF began to go up, so the word "Bohrok" still remains.
When I joined deviantART, I decided to dump "Bohrok" and went with a hyphenated form of GDO29ghhh, but I also added the word "Anagram" since the anagram of that was the name of what was supposed to be my representative character; I originally wanted my HTF'd Runescape avatar to be my representative character!!! But I decided to draw MYSELF as an HTF, but I assigned the name G-DO, as in my initials. A few weeks later, I changed it to Ganaram, and a few months later, I assigned his last name of Inukshuk.
So the name is now G-DO-29--Anagram (Pronounced Gee-Doe-Two-Nine-Ann-Uh-Gram): The G-DO, being my initials, the 29, being the city I live in, and Anagram, which is what my representative character's name is.
Quoted from http://g-do-29--anagram.deviantart.com/art/Mind-Dump-05192010-164629000
For the sake of continuity and consistency, I have retained this name for the past 1.9 years. Let me go on though:
For me, this name is now synonymous with the two dominant interests to me: Happy Tree Friends (Minus all the gore) and Simcity 4 (Plus the gore, and I mean the road markings).
"But dude, your avatar says 'Ganaram' on it; What does it mean?!!"The name "Ganaram" as I mentioned is a recombination of the letters in the word "Anagram." It's also the name of the "white teddy" in my somewhat universal Avatar (The "White teddy" is me drawn as a Happy Tree Friends character). I also use this rearrangement of a name as a sort of pen name. There are variations to the name, also. Here's a few:
- Ganaram (Many people from dA and SC4D call me this)
- Ganaram DI (This was set as my Simtropolis username; At the time, I didn't want to use the same name I used for deviantART. Also reconstituted as my Runescape name.)
- Ganaram D. Inukshuk (This is Ganaram's full name, and my full pen name.)
The last name of "Inukshuk" is an Inuit word which means "Someone was here." The word also refers to stone landmarks that the Inuit and other Arctic peoples would leave. It was also the name of the Polar Bear from Animal Planet's "Growing Up..." series. http://jezebel.com/5013891/orphaned-baby-polar-bear-talks-to-his-zookeeper Since Polar Bears are my favourite animal, I figured I'd stick "Inukshuk" onto Ganaram's name. The "D" part was included because "D" is also my real-life middle initial. In case you're wondering, "D" means "Darian" and it has no true significance other than having an exotic name that started with "D." And no, "Darian" isn't my RL middle name either.
As I also stated, my real-life initials are GDO, but the initials of my pen name are GDI; It matches my RL initials by 67% and I like it better than GDO (It looks like you misspelled GOD, which rhymes with NOD). Though "GDI" might mean something different to some people... "Kane Tiberium"...? An easter egg in SC4 itself just seems to coincide with my own pen-initials, and after some quick research,... Let's just say if I created a city journal of an Anagrammic nation, it'd be in danger of being destroyed by an enemy brotherhood...
Polar bears, Inuit landmarks, enemy brotherhoods, and a symbolic prime number,... A lot goes into my name and also coincides with other things as well... Chances are, this has got to be the most complicated username ever.
There's not a real story about my name, it are just my initials:
Mr - mister
MAvE - Matthijs van Egmond. The "A" is from my Christian name
94 - This is the year when I was born
Sometimes my name is: mave94 or MAvE94, but for this forum I wanted to do something different, but it's odd and difficult to remember &mmm
- Matthijs
Aliktren Stoutbow was an Elf I took to max level playing Baldurs Gate, the name was generated by my bonce on the spot, and stuck with me as it's fairly unique, so useful for using on the web ;D
Net = Internet
Mod = Moderator
Simple ;)
Well yeah, my name has to have the stupidest meaning ever.
I invented "Ciuu96" probably 3-5 years ago when I needed an username to either one of the Savage games (can't remember which). So, Ciuu comes from Chaos is under us (::)) and 96 obviously from my birthyear. The meaning of my username doesn't sound too good, but at least the actual name isn't that bad.
And I always thought that was your way of writing "see you" :D
I've never thought of that, maybe I should start telling people that instead of the real thing, could make me look smarter. ;D
The "Exla" is an anagram for my name, Alex. The "357" is progressing prime numbers excluding 1, because 1 is a number that doesn't really obey the rules.
I'm sure that's not very creative :D
-Alex (Exla357)
I go by two names in the SC4 Community. Greckman and Towncrafter.
I was new to the internet and didn't have an internet username, and was having trouble coming up with one. After about a month of starting to register on various SC4 sites (including this one) and then canceling, I finally just used the first name I could find. I use Greckman on my computer and it's a corruption of my first name Greg plus man. I don't like that as an internet username, but I guess I'm stuck with it.
Towncrafter... There's a JC Penney brand of clothing called Towncraft and I added the -er. I chose the name because my building style is small towns. I also go by the initials of TC which is short for Towncrafter.
-TC ;D
Simple. I own a PlayStation 2(ps2). (Although it's probably a dead shell by now...)

Hyronymus, or officially Hieronymus, is Greek for my given name. It means "with a sacred name".
September 13th, 1983....
Back in 8th grade (and several years prior) I was massively into D&D - good old Blue Basic. A friend started a new campaign which needed all new characters, for which I rolled up a half-elf character named Twyla. I fell in love with her... wanted to BE her! Her spunk, her tenacity, her adaptability - so much to aspire to become.
Over the years since, I drifted through various RPGs and Twyla was always my first and main character - regardless whether she's a Ragabash GlassWalker (W:tA), Former Wage-Mage (SR), or anthropomorphic vixen (FT/Taps/FM/et al); WHO she is always trumps WHAT she is.
Twenty-nine years and still going strong.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the modern equivalent would be General or Admiral depending on which branch of the military.
As for me... a large fish with lots of sharp teeth. ;) But you knew that, right? $%Grinno$%
My name stands for someone that I see as special. Someone who pushes his limits and, therefore, the limits of his profession to a whole new level every single time. Someone who is so much better than everyone else in history at his profession, and, because of that, that teachs us a valuable life lesson: yes, try your best; it is important to try your best and push your limits. But also: it is important to know that you have to accept failure, because failure will come: some people are simply better, praise them, enjoy them, and do your best.
That is Messi. He is indeed very good at what he does. Very very good.
Wierd I never found this before and hence the necroing of the thread.
So, Gn_Leugim, where does it came from? First Leugim, as some might know, is Miguel writen in reverse, being Miguel my second name. My first name would not work for this, at least, in a pleasently sound way :p
The Gn behind it (Sometimes without a "_" or just with a "." as in Gnleugim or Gn.Leugim), cames from a game a played back then, C&C Generals, so, as I was playing as a general, I better give it to the name, and I short it to Gn. So, Gn_Leugim in short means "General Miguel" :P
Pffft. I thought I had replied here in this thread, but it might have just been Simtropolis' version instead.
Mine is really simple. I suck at coming up with names, so my username APSMS is just my initials. Sometimes I'll use APSinc (that's what it is on Steam), or Absalom Industries, but again these are just variations of my name.
I try to avoid using the whole thing (my name, that is) though, because I'm pretty sure there's only one person around who's got my name combination. Even if I'm not on social media for people to find.
After my own name, First Initial/Last, dyoung then my former USN Rate, YN, hence dyoungyn

Ugo Fantozzi is a fictional character, always funny, anarchistic and melancholic, always screwed up by a terrbile amount of misshapps, formed by the italian actor Paolo Villago.
There is a wikipedia entry for Fantozzi.
And there is a day, when Fantozzi is send to retirement and he can't handle it, that the company he worked for a whole life don't need him anymore...

Hehe, know what you mean about rare names. Mine is rare enough that I can almost always just use my name as a login which is the case with my incredibly uncreative name here :D I'm aware of a single other Noah Clem, I guy about 10 years younger than me from Virginia that I got to know fairly well just because of the rarity of the name--he got the twitter handle first but I beat him to about everything else  . It's even worse here in Finland; my poor wife worries I'll do something embarrassing and have it get straight back to her ::)

You know, the last name is different (obviously) but Noah also happens to be my brother's name.
My real life first name is also pretty rare. It's derived from Old Norse/Saxon, and means 'the knowing and understanding woman', or 'wise woman'.
I sing with the owls.
Mine is work related. I have been a 911 Dispatcher for over 21 years now. So I consider myself (even if no one else does!!!) kind of a Diva!!!!! Easy as that!!
In Russia it is customary to have a double name - your own name and father's name. To respected people are treated with a full, double name. So friends addressed me to the school, but then someone, I do not remember who, cut my full name. So Alexander Anatolyevich became an Alan. And Waters was my name in my first rock band for a great love for Pink Floyd.
