Title: Grand Canyon
Post by: jeronij on December 12, 2006, 04:00:59 PM
Hello dear SC4Devotion members !!!

I am glad to start the first official Mayor's Diary in Sim City 4 Devotion  !!!

It is time to start a fresh new journal. I hope I still keep my skills after so much time without playing  ;) .

I have decided to use an existing map for this Diary. The Grand Canyon. I have started playing this region at least three times. I hope this is the BIG one  :P !!!  The region is quite challenging and balanced. There are big plains in the corner areas, and really rough terrain in the middle squares. I have to say I am specially hooked with this region, so I´ll keep playin it for some time.

I dont remember were I downloaded the map from. It was a long long time ago, 2004, but I dont think it is available at Simtropolis  &mmm.

OK, enough words for now, lets start with a regional view. The pics are 1024 pixels width. I apologize for the inconveniences, (specially the 1024 or less users), but they can not be smaller. I hope you understand it  ;D .

GC_01_02 Region View.

And since the city is already developed, and I did not made pics during the development ( I started it simply for fun) , the MD will start with some general views over the city.

GC_01_02 Zoom 5 First rotation.

Great map. I think it's still at the STEX. About the update, I can tell you you still haven't lost any of your skills ;) I saw some of those pics before, I think when you have showed some of your waterfall lots and mods at Simtropolis.

HaHA!  ;D I was waiting for this!  You realize that this is the very first jeronij Diary that I get to follow from the very beginning?  And already I'm amazed...that farm town is very random, but it looks so well put together.  I'd imagine that's how a farm would look if there could be farms that green in northern Arizona...(there may be, but I've never seen them).  I just can't wait to see how you tackle the canyon itself!  An awesome preview of stuff to come from jeronij himself!  YES!

Auch Jeronij, you tease us with these pics as everybody who visits ST knows that the bridge area and the waterfall are your true gems of this particular area.

It is nice though to see some more of that reagion and of the countryside around the bridges.

Great work I will be looking forward to more pics.

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors,

Thanks for the nice feedback all

This time I will present you the city in a different way as I use to do. Since the city is already developed in part, I have divided this part in several sectors, which I will show will calm and lots of pictures  ;D . The names of the sectors are not relevant, but I have named the city "Biniaraix", and I think I already used this name in another CJ... :-[ ...anyway, I`ll keep this name for this city  ;)

With no further delay, I present you the initial five sectors.

Biniaraix - Sector A This is a peaceful farmland area, and the main attraction here is the railroad crossing, which looks a bit out of place here, and will probable be changed to a standard crossing.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg168.imageshack.us%2Fimg168%2F1676%2Fgcbnx0101lr9.jpg&hash=913748576411c77f00f2a6cb67808eec8d20f25e)

Biniaraix - Sector B This is a more busy sector, some railyards, some heavy industry, more life...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg182.imageshack.us%2Fimg182%2F4207%2Fgcbnx0102pr0.jpg&hash=68a2dd06462dcd95d77fbc99fd6a9dcea3b81e70)

Biniaraix - Sector C This is the sector neat the waterfall. Again a peaceful farming area...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F5699%2Fgcbnx0103ea7.jpg&hash=588a3287ef52d78e87009fef4522e99ab194ece8)

Biniaraix - Sector D This is the main residential area. I have decided to bulldoze it, and develope it again, using this great tutorial by AlekKing : Using Custom Residential Content (http://sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=35&topic=50.0)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F3869%2Fgcbnx0104yq0.jpg&hash=d8fbe35013ded30585068109882c0c1b48d14fbb)

Biniaraix - Sector E The central sector in the area. Some small bussines and homing areas. Still can be called "quiet place".

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F4953%2Fgcbnx0105om4.jpg&hash=a2bf9ba777f0249e94d074005ad94b5d0220a495)

The most relevant part of this city is actually the waterfall (to the right of these pictures), but as it can been intesively seen in my CJ Simtropia (ST), I wont show it much here. Next update will start including some close ups over sector A.

I hope you like the presentation  ;D

OK, lets go with the pics  ;)

We will see now Sector A from different perspectives and different year seasons.

Title: Re: Grand Canyon
Post by: metasmurf on December 15, 2006, 06:55:43 AM
Very nice :) Did you do any custom farmlots?

The only critiscism i have considering the update is the street under rail underpass as it seems a litle overkill for a rural area, just imo. Otherwise very good. I know working with slopes and farms sometimes can be very frustraiting, like when the farmhouse destroys the slope.
Title: Re: Grand Canyon
Post by: TheTeaCat on December 15, 2006, 11:27:53 AM
Lovely, just lovely

Th only "fault" i would say is the crossing. A road bridge would look better or even a level crossing but i think the underpass looks out of place imo.

Otherwise the rest is perfect ;D

I've mentioned this in your slope city, but it seems that no matter what terrain you build on, you always find a way to make the best possible city out of the terrain. Phenomenal!!
Title: Re: Grand Canyon
Post by: Alfred.Jones on December 15, 2006, 06:26:02 PM
Looks great Jeronij! I think the underpass looks great  Coz those freight trains that would go through that area would be quite large and less traffic hold-ups with the underpass ;). I'm looking forward to Sector B

Hello to all, and again thanks for the replies and feedback

It is time to go for Sector B. Since I am quite busy today, and it is quite late, I wont extend myself too much with explanations  ;D

Here comes the first set with 9 pictures. From zoom 3 to zoom 4. I hope you like them !!!

First lets have a closer look to the sector from all four views. Zoom 3

I'm glad to see that you are starting a new cj Jeronij, keep up the good work. Well i'd rather Simtropia for now, especially for the textures that you used on that cj, was really accurate and realistic.
Can't wait to see more.

I think the terracing thoughout the farm lands is very nice.  If you need a little push, I think I would make the RR crossing regular instead of underground.  But what do I know?  Looking foward to more.

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors  ;D

It is time for some fres pics. I have decided to overpass Sector C and go directly to Sector D, where some main changes are being done.

For those who do not remember how Sector D was initially looking like, and dont want to go to page 1 to see it, here is a view on the original situation.

QuoteBiniaraix - Sector D This is the main residential area. I have decided to bulldoze it, and develope it again, using this great tutorial by AlekKing : Using Custom Residential Content (http://sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=35&topic=50.0)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F3869%2Fgcbnx0104yq0.jpg&hash=d8fbe35013ded30585068109882c0c1b48d14fbb)

And this is how the bulldozing started....

Biniaraix - Sector D 1

The first area being bulldozed and re-planned is the one on the left.... No remorse at all after bulldozing it  $%Grinno$% !!!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F904%2Fgc05bnrx01hy7.jpg&hash=acb1960d3fc7ced107e2bb93a7effcc4916fdb21)

Biniaraix - Sector D 2

The new planning includes a place for one of those nice BIG Mickebear's Mediterranean lots  ;D , as well as place for some smaller custom lots I created for this city....

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg100.imageshack.us%2Fimg100%2F3964%2Fgc05bnrx02lz9.jpg&hash=d9302c9609c3f95436683d9706155d41d2be99a9)

Biniaraix - Sector D 3

Inmediately after this, the right residential area was also bulldozed. Church included. Again a new residential layout....

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg95.imageshack.us%2Fimg95%2F180%2Fgc05bnrx03mh1.jpg&hash=718ff395ec4c2b52ebf7194a283512c4597e51a9)

Biniaraix - Sector D 4

The next one was the industrial area near the railroad....

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F9853%2Fgc05bnrx04yy7.jpg&hash=2ccfa25454294026d5438b82576baf4772ae2109)

Biniaraix - Sector D 5

This is a close up on the village's center. Finally I changed the space for the mega lot with a nice and multifunctional Town House. More like the reality where I live.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg100.imageshack.us%2Fimg100%2F922%2Fgc05bnrx05eq9.jpg&hash=c8f3c997739dbc5e2864fcd9b96cc72ebee063ed)

Biniaraix - Sector D 6

This is the final layot I planned for this area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg100.imageshack.us%2Fimg100%2F6836%2Fgc05bnrx06hc5.jpg&hash=7d2b6ad80a5500ab182eb998917808f77f5c29f1)

Biniaraix - Sector D 7

Educational facilities are not forgotten. A Primary School was build right on the hill...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F4656%2Fgc05bnrx07bx7.jpg&hash=d705accda4a8862a0c7ec67332d63c2d358e3899)

Biniaraix - Sector D 8

Finally, an overall look to the new situation...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F8277%2Fgc05bnrx08ab7.jpg&hash=7721b110da675df88397f1aee497befbbb24eb5f)

I hope you like the work in progress. I want to see if my experimenting with AlexKing techniques, and with Mickebear's Istrinian Houses will give to this area a very nice look.  The next updates will be more pics about planning and zoning. Once everything is at place, I will be able to show you some pics "After the click"  ;)

Hello again dear Grand Canyon visitors !!!

I am glad you liked the changes in the small town  ;D . We will have to wait a bit to see the houses growing, since some detailing and zoning is needed before this happens. The higher the population grows, the more difficult is to develope farming areas, so we'll have to wait a little bit  ;)

Biniaraix Sector D2  - 01 Now, as mentioned above, it is time to start adding some details to the area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg163.imageshack.us%2Fimg163%2F5329%2Fgc06bnx01bo5.jpg&hash=49056c0b4ff5c0753e41fa3907cd62a80012f6d2)

Biniaraix Sector D2  - 02 I could not wait to start using my last walls, and I started to buid my first cemetary ever !!! ( a pic on the complete cemetary can be seen in the Show us your... cemetary forum). This was the intial layout.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg163.imageshack.us%2Fimg163%2F2454%2Fgc06bnx02st1.jpg&hash=69e06ddb6d2d04fe28d768f154991c7d8de99338)

Biniaraix Sector D2  - 03 The situation is quite peaceful and retired...

Biniaraix Sector D2  - 04 And the cemetary has a great view over the valley...

Biniaraix Sector D2  - 05 A final look before we continue the construction....

This is a really nice update!

The screenshot D2 - 04 caught my eye. The way the cemetary overlooks the valley is very pretty.
That shot also gives a real sense of how the village spills down the valley.
Is that the Italia terrain mod? The ground textures are really nice.
Thanks for the update.

The walls are perfect, jeroni, and Grand Canyon is the perfect place to showcase them.

If they ever do a CG version of The Hobbit, they would miss a sure thing by not hiring you to do the landscapes.  Your sense of the beauty that can be found in ordinary places is unmatched.

Hi jeronij!

I have to say...I've never seen such a great work like yours! I'm impressed...and a lot!  ;) Your new walls are perfect, I love them. The cemetery looks so great on the top of that hill and the whole layout of the city is very realistic! I like that european style that you put in your cities...Oh...and an other thing, your terraforming is simply amazing! I would like to terraform my cities like yours, but I can't, I'm just not that good...

Well, I'm gonna keep practicing and then (maybe) I'll be able to do such terraforming like yours!

Great job Jeronij! I love it!

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors  ;D

It is time to post a short series of pictures about the construction of the cemetary. Once it is finished, and before I click the play button, some more development is to come. I want some more farms in this city before I let the Residentials come in wawes, and as you know, once the population reaches a certain number, no more farms will develop.

Biniaraix Sector D 03 - 01 After some more work on the cemetary, I decided to make some changes... You can see in this pic, the way I use to create the right slope to place the new rural walls, which are available at the exchange btw, Ajax  ;) .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F9599%2Fgc07bnx01pq7.jpg&hash=684ac32332a3ebe75cfcc2be246be63f21d8d508)

Biniaraix Sector D 03 - 02 And here is the final result.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F4600%2Fgc07bnx02xz2.jpg&hash=d6906ce840197f5342dc5d0a879e44145324bc13)

Biniaraix Sector D 03 - 03  Another perspective...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F5918%2Fgc07bnx03hi7.jpg&hash=a6e85b81bc2cb8e9ce7f9c881982e7e7c3515a2c)

Biniaraix Sector D 03 - 04 Now the area is completed, and ready to develop.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F3959%2Fgc07bnx04zl1.jpg&hash=999e35a8e473d6d960aee3d3bd6a9a4439b0c0e1)

Biniaraix Sector D 03 - 05 Here you can see the next area to be developed. As mentioned at the start of this post, some more farms will be placed there.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F543%2Fgc07bnx05zc6.jpg&hash=a223512903589d5f539591b30601ebed42573610)

I hope you can still wait some more pictures "before the click"  ;D

dedgren/David , thanks for your pleasant feedback
LP_Green , it is just a matter of practice and patience  ;) . If you want, you can.

To all: Thanks for taking the time to post a comment in this Diary, and thanks to all for being so gentle members ()flower()

I really like the last shot. It shows the prominance retaining walls have to play in terraceing a village and farms through the valley. It looks like you've kept the walls to just a few styles rather than mixing a whole bunch. It looks good!

Brilliant work Jeronij. It is very nice to see you playing the game again.

Looking at the cemetary I was wondering which cemetary lots you use? I like especially that gate.
One thing I am always missing at the cemetaries we post is some space for new graves. The cemetaries are so full that I hardly can believe that there is no spare space anymore.

At which point (I noticed that it occurs) do farms no longer develop? Does any one know that?

Keep on playing jeronij!

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors,

A so big amount of such pleasant feedback, deserves a fresh update right now  :D !!!

Time to see how the planning is being done in sector D.

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 01 The development starts near the school, just under the cemetery. I left the grid on, so you can appreciate the terrain's difficulty.

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 02  Of course, a pathway must lead to somewhere....in this case some ancient castle ruins just under the snowline...

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 03 And from there, to the new farming area...

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 05 After some fine detailing, the new area is ready for "the click"  ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F4397%2Fgc08bnx05mw0.jpg&hash=0e14ae8e56cf4cba6a3684a6db8696812c7d4e56)

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 06 But there is more developing work in the area, before we let the sims come and stay  ::)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F9924%2Fgc08bnx06dm3.jpg&hash=f7e98001957ec194834174e49f13d067968dea3d)

Biniaraix Sector D 04 - 07 So, we stop here, and wait for the next update... ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg166.imageshack.us%2Fimg166%2F3589%2Fgc08bnx07fy6.jpg&hash=5467f5f8deb6c345fd2fb387f3c75be6bc7ccbee)

I hope you like the main layout...some "real" development will start soon  ;D !!!

Thanks to all the members that found a minute to post their nice and motivating comments to Grand Canyon  !!! It is always a plesure to come and find so much excellent feedback  ;D

Nik-Nik, I use a cemetary lot found in Simtropolis (this one]http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15700]this one (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15700)) as a basis for a custom lot set. I changed some textures and some props and Voila !!!. The gates I used in this cemetery are included in my rural walls set.
Actually the available space is short also for the cemetaries. I can see entire modern buildings in the cemetary in Palma de Mallorca, which are used instead land tombs. Also many people wants to be burned once dead, so land space is not that necessary....
I am not sure at which number of residents the farms stop to develop, but since the "bigger" farms are stage 3, and the game goes until stage 8, probably when you start to see stage 4 residential buildings, or stage 3 farms, you are probably near the limit  ;)

Again thanks to all for the feedback !! Next update in progress....

Very interesting work.  The grid really does show the difficulty of the terrain, thanks for showing pics with and without the grid.  I'd like to see a close-up of the castle ruins, or better yet, where you got it and I can take a look at it myself (if it is not too much trouble  ;) ).  The new farm layout looks great!  You are such a tease with the "click"!  ;D

Beatiful pics. I ike that one staring down from the mountain on the ruin and trail, it has some nice 3D effects.

Also nice to see that Mc Donalds at the foot of the mountain. The kids can walk the trail path to the Mc Donald during lunch hour or would taht take too long.....  ;D

Hey Jeronij,

I've just checked your works here. And you know what? They're amazing!
This is the style of building that I like - sculpting, so much work on so small area. I think you'll agree with me, the more hard the terrain is to build, the more fun game provides! I really like that trails which goes uphill to castle ruins. It must have been a pain in the neck to terraform it properly, but the effects are great.

I'm looking forward to more of Grand Canyon!

Yes, he clicked, YES, YES he CLICKED!

I have to give some comments here. As a spokesman for the schoolchildren I have to speak against the current position of the MacDonalds. Although it is nearer to the trail, the route there is more difficult as the children have to walk or bike past the big through road. I would suggest some stairs from the trail to the Mc Donalds.

The area across the road of the Mc Donalds is very nice. I love that sign next to the tractor sales.
Which office builing is that acros the entrance of the Macdonalds it's a 3x2 the one with parking lot?

Why are there suddenly no road acces zots in that field across the airstrip? Speaking airstrip, I have nec=ver seen this airfeld so well placed Bravo!! &apls

finally, two questions. What is taht big yellow thingy in the last picture on the right below side? And can you give a shot of that industrial area just behind the Mac onalds?

Have a great weekend.

Nik-Nik

this really took off once the housing grew in.  Very colors and small intricate layout, with lots going on.  I do have one small gripe about the tile and that is the flora, with all the great new god mode tree mods, you can get some really nice alpine meadows and realistic treeline vegetation, instead of the same trees growing in the valley and on the snow pack.  Obviously just being picky, but is would just look, almost hyper realistic with a retouch of flora.

oh yeah and a quick tip about growing residentials with DTs mod, try and keep track of what building grows on what lot size, and try to just have one lot size for each building (delete less used options),  that way by setting your tilest specifically to only one, ie euro, houston, ect, zoning a certain size 1x2 1x2 2x2 2x3 ect, and keeping taxes of the two wealth groups you do not want to grow at the moment above 10%, you should get a specific building each time, or at most only 2 or 3 options at each size.  this makes it really easy to get the exact growables you want.  When you learn what grows when, it is pretty much like having plopable residential if you know what i mean.

I agree , on Biniaraix - U06_06 , the mix of vegetation and fields realism is incredible . Though , my prefered is the first , the panorama is breathtaking , the scene looks so familiar that I was wondering fisrt : I know this place , but where is it ?
I think it's the viaduc , looking like viaduc de Garabit by G. Eiffel , I was fishing there with my grandfather when I was a child .
It looks like a photography of auvergne (Old volcano's region in the center of France) .
Just wonderful .

Hola Jeroni,
I never ceased to be amazed at how good you are at managing those dirt streets/roads, every time I've tried, the dirt is always mixed with smsll strips of asphalt....
I think that you already made a small tutorial about how you do this!
Have you made something similar here at SC4D??

Anyhow... great work amigo!

Take care and have a great week!

Beautiful. Beyond. Belief.

Biniaraix!

The last pic, 07, is almost vertigo-inducing.  You feel, as you look at it, that you are standing at the top of that snowy slope in the foreground looking down...

...way down...

...on all that off in the distance.  Wow, jeroni- I don't what else to say.

Well - this is my 1st post on SC4D *grin*

So I thought it is appropriate for me to comment on your Grand Canyon Jeronij!

*speechless**flabbergasted**amazed**splutters**faints*

It is indeed beautiful beyond belief as dedgren said. I am really amazed at the beauty and the effort that must be involved - it almost look as if I am overlooking a real countryside in a small plane!

BTW, just wondering about the path up the steep hillside you had a few pages back - where did u get it?

Hello to all Grand Canyon visitors !!!

Wow , so much feedback....I would swear I posted yesterday.....You are great motivating people   &apls !!!!

I am glad you liked the layout and some of the small residential areas. I do agree with Wngn and dedgreen about pics 6 and 7. They are some of my favoutires ever  ;)

Rayden and Alek, I have created a custom set of lots, 30 more or less, which are growable R$ 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2, using Mickebear's props. Using these with DT's No Maxis Buildings, and the other Istrinian content, they grow quite easily and you can make an Mediterranean city in seconds  ;D. I just had to seriously deal with that white "pinkish" 1x1 residential, which seems to grow like mushrooms  ::)

Thanks for the feedback again  . Some more regular updates, and then what about a nice and looooooooooong mosaic ?¿  ;D

Thanks Jer. Beautiful mosaic that one of yours. I can see you too, have that problem called Vizcaya. They grow like weeds, don't they? I kind of like them, except the pink roof, but the grow rate it's too big. In 10 times, they appear 5.

Wow this mosaic shows realy nice the river valley and the surrounding area.  Lovely indeed.
Porkies school nicely blend in with the rest of the town.
That water tower in the middle of the fields. LOL.
Imagine living in that house next to the elevator of the grain silo (which goes over the street/road, brilliant).
One comment: I see a lot of reptition in that bath double silo lot. Did it grow like weeds as Rayden puts it, or did you plop them so much?

That mosaic is beautiful, and seamless! A lot of mosaics show the divisions between when one picture ends and the next begins, but yours is like one huge picture! That would be a great idea for what I would consider a much-needed tutorial...Anyway, that's a great job, I'll be looking forward to seeing more!

Wow!

One of the things I like the most about the way you build is that you are using levels without always making terraces from them. I do enjoy straght terraces too, but your gentle slopes look very organic and realistic.

That is truly a marvel to behold. I love the transportation infrastructure and how it leads the eye down the picture. The little towns and villages are picturesque and I could see my self visiting such a place and falling in love with it.

I hate to sound like a broken record but, keep up the good work Jeroni. Your Art work is much appreciated and is always very inspiring.

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors  ;D !!!

It is time for some more pics on Biniaraix. I am sorry for the delay....lack of time....webmastering has these thing.... ::)

So today I will post a set of 10 pictures on the recently developed area, with several closeups which will allow you to enjoy the great BATs and LOTs I am using in this city  ;)

So, lets start...

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic01
This is an overall view on the new farming area. The small parking place behind the small neighborhood is quite populated by the weekend, when the visitors come to take pictures to the waterfalls (I would swear I saw Colyn there last weekend  :D ). People living in that small village say that the waterfalls rumour all night long is really relaxing.... :D

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic02
An overall view on the area. At this stage of development, the farms were more difficult to grow... ::)

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic03
Here we can see how the previous area joins to the old residential center...

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic04
A busy crossroads near the rural firemen airport....

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic05
Again a vital intersection. I also like the way that these residential homes grew. Even with the Vizcaya ones....

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic06
Still some calm and rest is available in this area...I can hear the birds..... ;D

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic07
The MCDonalds and the small commercial area.....

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic08
This church is a glorious model by Mickebear. I simply LOVE it

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic09
The town hall and center.

GC - Biniaraix - U12  Pic10
To finish this set, this is the area where the town center finishes, just under the cemetary.

I hope you like the detailed pictures....I really enjoy that virtual place at my computer  ;D

A BIG thanks to all once again for your pleasant comments and feedback, after so long time playing

That is a lovely update Jeronij.
It all came together beautifully.
The choice of trees and flora really compliment the rural and small town feel.
I agree, the church is a real beauty.
The mix of retaining walls you have used looks very natural, quite realistic.
I also liked the dirt path with the low stone walls in picture 06.
I'm not sure I have seen those before.

Thanks for the update!

I find that I don't comment here as much as I should.  But one runs out of ... ah, well, things to say to convey how beautiful this MD is.  I am American and I feel as if I'm on a great vacation, roaming the European countryside.  It is so nice and warm, so utterly breathtaking and then I come across a Micky D's.  Is this what Europe looks like?  That grand flowing of country and town that is interupted by a lousy fast food joint.  If so I feel the need to apoligize just because, well just because.  The McDonald's dosen't belong there, even if it's realistic.

Please forgive me, I don't mean to sound mean.  I guess I just hate Micky D's.  At least in this MD.

Very nice update Jeronij. It was worth the waiting.

I am being a pain in the ..... again:
Did you notice the wing span of the airplane on the airstrip. The trees between the airstrip and the rail track will probably be a dangerous obstacle for save landing. Maybe a low fence would be better?

Mayor, one question on behalf of the children. You promised them a solution to get to the McDonalds. Did you forget about those youngsters already (they are your future electorate).

I like that pic 5. The homes are well places especially the corner one. LOL, that hamburger joint. Probably the children are going theer now (but having to cross a dangerous road).

Best pic is the town hall and square. It is so mediterranian that I feel like being on holiday when watching it. Great work.

Hello again dear GC visitors  ;D

Well, yes, I am busy with many projects at the moment, being the canals and dam the most relevant perharps. But I found half an hour to edit some pics and post the here, so David wont move this one to the "dungeons"....  $%Grinno$%  :D  :D

OK, I spent most ofd my time preparing the pictures, so not many comments to add, what you can see it this update is a tour over the actual situation of Biniaraix, then some close-ups on the small places around the area, and finally the start of some new development, just under the bridges.

It's a good thing that David's admin-powers forces you to make an update every once i a while. I'll take this opportunity to thank you for your work on the new canal set aswell. I downloaded the props earlier and they look amazing. I would go so far as to say that it takes canals to a whole new level.

Hello dear Grand Canyon visitors !!!

Time for some feedback and another update. Yes, I know, they come from time to time, but... better later than never  ;D

thundercrack83, patfirefghtr, emilin,  kimcar, David, sc4portugal  ( obrigado  ;D ), Antoine (merci  ;) ), kwakelaar, bat, thanks for your encouraging posts  . Your nice comments are greatly appreciated, and I am glad you keep liking my cities after so loooooooong time  ;)

badsim, I remember that post... 11 post in two years....not that bad  $%Grinno$%  ;)  :D , btw, sebes used the right icon (  &dance ) - use the [other] link....  ;)
sebes, I hope your curiosity will be satisfied in this update  ;)
Heinz, there is no tutorial about how to create these cities. I can recommend you to check Sculpting Columbia River and Simtropia (if you didn't) at ST for some hints  ;)
mark, I hope you have many ages free, because there are many new pictures to see this time  :D

Time for some pictures now.

Lets remember where we were..... just under the old train bridge.... where the rural culverts allow the water pass under the bridges. Still some old houses there....

But the calmness these houses enjoyed is gone forever ( or for many years for sure  ;D ).

A BIG cement plant, and several new industries have been placed in this area.

Fortunately the industries are not quite dirty, and severe ordinances have been enabled to avoid dangerous materials being thrown to the clean and pure snow water.

Once the industrial area is completed , Mayor Jeroni decided to build something in that area....

The terrain is difficult but allows some flexibility....

The main street turns into a rural path at the end of the small residential strip.

The rural path conforms to the hilly terrain...

Until it reaches the pond where the waterfall starts. A nice place full of visitors the weekends  ::)

An overall view to the situation.

And a close up on the above mentioned pond. Today is sunday, so several sims took their cars and came up to that place to enjoy some pure nature hours  ;D

Finally, in this picture you can see the both waterfall "miradores". The one on the small farming town, and this new one.

I hope you like these pictures.

Again THANKS for your feedback

Oh yeah!  The birdseye view of the river, the curved road and the new area  and the area (the picture with the yellowline) is fabulous. I bet a shot from the farming town over the rivier, with the curved roads, the new strip village (and probably even the large bridges visible too) would be a bit hit in the picture contest.... ;)

Hi JRJ ... like we can find your stuff under LotEditor . ;)

hehe , 3 months only on SC4Devotion and I'm making here my 240eth post ... all is said . $%Grinno$%

Come back to Grand Canyon .... I just can't get enough of your pictures . You're the king of waterfalls /riverbeds , are you inspired by your own countryside in Spain ?  These pictures have something of Corsica too ... ::) . I think I've made an error choosing Sorchin's ploppable water when I see the amazing transparency of your with rocks visible under water ...superb  &apls ... and beyond any competition .  ;)

I love this MD.
Great industrial development, although the houses down stream may not have a lot of water pollution teh cement industry will certainly know some dust problems as the wind of the waterfall blows all the dust right to the houses!

That residential strip is just lovely.

BTW did you notice your cash flow? AIGO cement factories increase the budget significantly!

Hello dear Gran Canyon visitors, and thanks for you kind coments and feedback

I want to excuse me for the delay between updates, but there are soooooo many things that require my attention lately ...  ::)

Anyway, time for some pictures... this time Mayor Jeroni confronts to a serious challenge..

A highway is crossing the city tile.

There is an easy way to connect to one of the neighbor cities...

But the conection to the other city will require some serious terraforming....

After some "try and fail", this is the final shape that the highway takes...

Unforutnately the curve options are quite limited for highways....

And I wanted to make it look somehow credible...well, from some perspectives it looks better  ;D

Time for some general views on the development so far...

And now time to start detailing the area... first some walls and trees....

And as you can perfectly see, the final result...oh wait.... what it with the zoom ¡¡¡

Zoom 4 please, zoom 4....

Thank you, now you can see the water treatment plant that was placed in that difficult to access place in the middle of the highway...

There is some more detailing left in the area....

And my favourite one on this area...

But I thought I could show these pictures already  ;D

I hope you like them, I dont have much time to reply you one by one, but you can be sure that I enjoyed every one of your post, and I do really appreciate your support and kind words

See you next update  ;D

It just doesn't get any better than a day when you give us a GC update, jeroni!

That is some honkin' elevation change while maintaining that nice smooth grade.

Post by: Badsim on May 10, 2007, 11:06:58 AM
Hi JRJ ,

I'm sure the size of your pictures don't give justice to your work on elevation change of this highway ... after all , maybe is it better , requesting a observant eye and a little analysis ...(better than an immediate , obvious -so easy- striking effect )
Would like to be in front of your own screen . ;D
My only suggestion would be about the straight other part of this highway on the most distant view , suddenly making us remember we are just watching an SC4 picture . ::)

Except that , I can't get enough of this wonderful landscape ... &apls

Hola Jeroni,
I agree with David, the way you've done that winding highway setup is more than fine, it's simply astounding! The slopes are perfect, and Badsim is right, the pics can't do justice to your work, sometimes we have to see the "real thing" to fully appreciate all the efforts that have been put into a particular setup!
Hat's off to you.
Give my regards to your family.

David, thanks for pointing the exact slope my friend  ;D . I made this highway keeping in mind Link-->Sa Calobra (http://www.ingrids-welt.de/reise/mall/tracall.htm) road in Mallorca  $%Grinno$%

To all, thanks for your support and feedback ¡¡¡, I hope you like the next pictures as well  ::)

Time to show some more progress in Grand Canyon....

A last look on the highway before we proceed ....

The next development was near the cascade... an old existing rural way was choosed to connect the farming land with the undeveloped area across the bridges...

After some work, the road is upgraded....

And some residential zoning is placed along the road

Some perspective on the situation

This picture was rapidly eliminated in the pictures competition thread, so it is not that good  ::)

Suddenly the railroad changes into a street, and a full residential development takes place...

Now some overall views for your eyes  ;)

Overall view 1

Overall view 2

In the next update we will see how this new residential resort grows and develops...

I hope you liked the pictures  ;D . The mediterranean houses will slowly start to change into something more metropolitan somtime in the future.... $%#Ninj2

Hi Jeroni ,

D'you know that with this road you just have reproduced the case of Millau , and why this insane viaduc has been built ? ... ;D
Though it is an highway ...
Superb work ... I agree ; you work like a sculptor . And one of those I prefer : with no precise and definite idea of what it will be , but just following your inspiration .

A view on the main plaza, and the small commercial buildings.

It is time to start breaking the grid a little bit. First one side of the rural pathway...

And the other side of the pathway, until the main road.

The final result. Now it the town looks more integrated in the surrounding terrain...

One final view on the area.

It is time to expand the residential area.... the terrain is more sloped that you can notice in that pic...

And placing this station was a real nightmare....

The prgramed expansion will mean more traffic, and more traffic needs a good signals system  ;D

I hope you like the development so far  ;D . Again thanks to all for the feedback

Wow, great update! I love the Mediterranean style houses you use

I was wondering where you got this hockey and soccer field from, could you please tell me where I can download it? I would like to use it in my cities (It was on page 5)

QuoteBiniaraix Sector D 04 - 02  Of course, a pathway must lead to somewhere....in this case some ancient castle ruins just under the snowline...

Brilliant updates as always - Biniaraix has such an amazing feel to it. I love the way Mickebear's houses cling to the hillsides. It is a joy to look at ()stsfd()

Wow yet another work of art.  I was wondering what slop mod you were using?  The transition in elevation on the highway looks really good.  Usually when I try to lay roads and freeway on such elevation changes it either digs out the terrain or it keeps the terrain level and looks really bad, or I cant connect the network at all.

Beautiful as usual Jeroni  &apls Tell me though, how come your city only develops your lots and not maxi's? Did you delete them or you just bulldoze when they develop?

Cameron, after checking the field, all the information I can give you is the ingame name of the lot: "All-weather Pitch"  ( I dont recall where I downloaded it, and since I use Datpacker, I cant check for individual files  ::)

To All, thanks for your feedback and pleasant comments  ¡¡¡

I found the time to edit some pictures to post, and so keep this MD alive....  :-[ ... I hope you can understand my lack of time  ::)

With no further delay , here you can see some mor pictures about the development in Grand Canyon. You can see the development of the old suburbs just across the bridges... this is still an old area, but slowly slowly it becomes a more urban-modern area. Or at least this was my intention  ;)

So, not many comments are needed:

All Weather Pitch (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15909)  ;) - Humbling to see it in use in such a brilliant MD, it's one of my older works that I'm not keen on these days, but if someone's asking after it...

Anyway, great update, as always. Looks stunning in both the close ups, and also the zoomed out views

Glad to see you back here, jeronij! The development is absolutely beautiful, I love the little village that popped up there. Also, your technique for making the hills more "rolling" with the rail lines is one I'm going to employ from now on! Great work, as always, my friend!

Hi jeroni ,

You've got nothing to prove anymore about your skill at playing the game , and I enjoy the turn you've taken as a building BATer ... but yes , please keep this MD alive ! You know ... so many new attracting things to see , it's good to have to come back and see again that kind of great pictures we love but have too tendancy to forget ...

Update not easy to follow because you've got the idea to change the angles of view between each step of the development ... hehe , we ( I at least) have to search and come back to verify what's new !   $%Grinno$%

I love this development so far , perfectly coherent , already said once - I think - more urban if you want ... but I hope not too much . The great landscape of Grand Canyon is at least as important as its urbanization .  ;)

(Hey ! Who am I to tell you what you have to do !  ::))

Enjoyed watching how you developped that area. I did not expect such an urbanized area to be planned there. I wonder how the congestion on that winding road (my favorite ever) down into the valley will be now...

Well... I think I've looked at this GREAT MD at least twenty times from the first to the last page. And this is the first time I post...  &ops :)

Since I first read your previous CJ "Simtropia" over at ST, I got amazed by your really excellent work. I think you inspired me to start playing SC4 at another level, with all the custom content, and new techniques for developing and landscaping the maps (before that revelation, I used to play SC4 only over flat terrain, and with very griddy looking cities, only waiting for skyscrapers to grow, and very often I got bored and abandoned my cities).

Then, when I saw the unhappy ending of that CJ, I discovered this site, SC4Devotion, and instantly become a member and started downloading excellent stuff and reading all the information available here... And I found your new MD. As before, it was incredible. It IS incredible. I don't know how you make this game come alive, but indeed you achieve this. Your skills on landscaping the slopes and rivers, and your planning of small villages are truly awesome. I really like your winding roads, your bridges and the realism you achieve in blending the "square" buildings into the environment with such smoothness.

Thanks, Jeroni, for making this "game" come alive!

SANDOKAN

Hello to all the Grand Canyon visitors  ;)

This project has been cancelled, I feel really sorry for that, but we must think ahead  ::) , and a new one ( Mallorca --> link in my signature) has replaced it.

I really enjoyed Grand Canyon, as I hope you did  ;) , but I had to take this decision which I hope you all will understand.

Before I leave, I wanted to specially thanks Sandokan ( with way too much delay  :-[ &ops ) for his comment which really touched my heart  . Gracias amigo  &apls

Good bye Grand Canyon ... Good day Mallorca
