So I have decided to start posting here on sc4d after more than a year of lurking. Why I post now is because i was looking around in an old plugins folder and found some of my early works. ( I know it might sound a bit ridicolous to talk about early works when I have never released anything or even showed what I have done before.) What I am going to show now is only a fraction of what I have done but too often I get bored of a project and start something new, I guess that is very common. Maybe if I start showing people what I do I would be put under pressure by you to finish my projects.
Anyhow, here is what I want to show you this time.
In the first two picture you can see my start for a diagonal w2w building set, the 45 degree cornerbuilding is not very well performed, I don't know why I didn't make that wall diagonal. You can also see the Ferring International Center (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=217780), from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Here is a pier I did for a reason I no longer remember.

And now to some of my more recent works.
A residential highrise I doodled.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi269.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fjj42%2Fantnst%2Fhoghus.jpg&hash=8426561ddfff4e3b2b981646b47666f28edef7b3)
And one of my current projects a super post panamax gauntry crane, modeled after the ones in Scandiahamnen, Gothenburg, Sweden.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi269.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fjj42%2Fantnst%2FSPP.jpg&hash=7e8e74d14c704b392996b7aea4d5a3d57b60a9c5)
I am working on some other cranes for naval use, among those the huge crane that was used by the shipbuilding company Kockums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kockums) in Malmoe but is now sold and moved to Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea.
That looks very nice. Only the corner buildings in the first screenshot need some more details.
Nice bats! i like the orange/white tower, is that for a 1x1 or 2x2 lot?
Ferring Tower looks good, but I suggest you work more on your diagonals. The red with black roof won't be W2W with other people's diagonals, you need to make the building closer to the road like the brown one is. Brown has problem with roof, even its unready it looks weird. IMO you could relase the bridge, just work with the textures and it will be fine.
I like the geometric simplicity of the residential highrise. It lacks ostentation and only because of that it looks great.

I usually make buildings that would fit in the city wich I'm currently playing, and now I play with a NYC-styled city. But I do have a building that is almost done and are Swedish.
Residential building from the neighbourhood of Ribersborg, Malmö.

I'm afraid that the pier is lost, I'm not sure though. But if it's still around it's on a disconnected computer some 600km away from where I am, anyways I'll see if can get someone to get all the files from that computer and send them to me. If it's still on there I'll fix it up with better textures.
EDIT:
I found another old building laying around, I made preview render and here it is, a corner building from Astoria in Queens, NY.

Hey Antn
How about that! Some works in progress?
They are looking very nice and I like the models a lot. I wish to encourage you to pay attention to the roof textures. A lot of folk spend time making duct works and air condition units. Cluttering up the roof to add visual interest. It looks like you've added something that looks like leaves collecting in the corners. That is actually a good idea and I don't recall seeing that sort of thing before (making a mental note to self) I don't know what kind of paint program you have - so I'll go out on a limb and suggest that the the tar paper textures are a good choice. My minds eye thinks that some smudging, water stains, or a gradient is all that's needed to make these roofs outstanding.
Good Luck
- Jim
The Bed-Stuy houses are right on, for a while I lived in one. Don't know what tile constraints you have, but in general, the front steps/fence area of these houses go out a little further. These houses also have backyards, much like the GasCooker row houses.
As for me being a jerk ::), I think that every color house you make should have a different pattern of AC units, as well as consider various roof textures, or various smudging/water stain patterns that Jmyers recommends.
Those two fireplaces bring back memories, though I believe we had roof access too. Many neighbors had beehives up there.
Ah ok, I see. The swedish BAT you did is pretty good, but the front's texture is a bit flashy for me ::)
Guillaume

There won't be any ducts or AC-units on the roofs of the rowhouses, but I'm going to put AC on the roof of the Bronx corner building, that black thing on the wall is ducts for ventilation from a deli kitchen I believe, going up to AC units on the roof.
Yes that is leaves, glad you noticed :), there is a leaf brush in photoshop that comes quite handy for that. Some more work on the roof texture is needed IMO too.
Thanks for commenting!

Good to hear that they are right on, coming from a former resident and all. There are room for the steps to go further out in the street, I don't know the depth of the building ATM but I was planning to put them on 1x2 lots with two houses on each side by side. That makes room for small backyards as well.
Don't worry about being a jerk if being a jerk is to point out what is needed to improve my works. It's a simple task to change the placement of the AC units so that I will do, and also vary the roof texture. I have seen that many of those houses do have roof access, but on this there are no roof access. I have also seen that some houses have roofs with the portion towards the street is sloping, actually I think I have a BAT of such a building somewhere. But beehives on the roof is somthing I'll remember for later.

Thanks! By flashy do you mean its color is too saturated? What do you think of decrease the saturation and maybe make the tiles smaller?

Ok, what wealth level do you think is appropriate for these, I'm thinking medium, but AFAIK it have been a rather poor neighborhood just a couple of decades ago. I'm not sure.

I would say the Bed-Stuy hoses are R$, especially the ones you have modeled. Brown stones are somewhat old, and each one has it's own little details (such as a curved entryway, overhang, small things). Your models are void of such details, so I picture them later development with the idea of housing a mass amount of people. You could add such details, add greener props to the lot, and sure, R$$. I don't think you are getting R$$$ in these models, but pretty much every brownstone is this shape.
If you used the texture you used on your dock, then I think that would be closer to R$

Got a bit further on it, I think I'm close to done with the day scene and can move on to night lights soon. Just some small additions needed, patio furniture on that lowest roof and adjusting some materials. What do you think?
Wow!! really nice BAT
I agree with my Ch'ti friend ( :P ), it's a very nice building.
Guillaume.
That is nice looking BAT :)
Tall W2W buildings on 2x1 lots are not very common. Keep it up
supremec, Sciurus, MrMAvE94: Thank you all, it's appreciated. :)
Terring7: No they are not, I only know of the HKABT ones. Thank you.
So a little update, I've been doing some changes to the day render and still need to do some more adjustments I think but this is soon ready.
And I've started with the night lights.
Any thoughts?
I like night lights, but it looks like the night maps are Stretched. :D
Edit: I would love to see you make more of these types of buildings, there's a lot of these types of building in the Big Apple. :D
Looks correct at first glance
before going deeper in my comments, could you post it real pics of the bat?
Aaron Graham: They are not stretched just not so detailed yet. :) And who knows what the future brings. :)
Girafe: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=qsvdp68v0x6t&lvl=19.29280970213917&dir=357.64203139783416&sty=b&form=LMLTCC

What a great bat. Tall one. Very similar to the real building.
Love to know how you do the night lights!
I've done some tweaking of the nightlights and I think I'm pleased with them, maybe there are some small parts that I can change but I can live with them being as they are.

Here's a new project I started, these are typical Swedish 19th century wooden houses. Each house will be rendered orthogonal, diagonal and in FARR angles, and all houses will be released in a pack totaling maybe 50 bats.
Edit: I Forgot to answer vester, I use a self-illuminated material for the windows, with a bitmap with random shapes as a filter.

What about a tutorial on it ?
Went back through your thread. Ever thought about releasing the Ferring Tower. Maybe in a updated version with some more work on the roof: Krak.dk - a good source for arial photos. (http://map.krak.dk/m/aA62G) Click on
Skråfoto and you will get the maps on angel and not straight down.
Looked at the houses in your last post and thought Swedish, Norwegian or from the Faroe Islands.
Maybe do a more lighter red variation
Great looking residential tower, there. &apls
Cheers,
Willy
Nice lighting on that tower and good job with the houses
Vester: There is a tutorial in JasonCW's thread (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/4778-jasons-bats-tutorials/page__view__findpost__p__1146813) on Simtropolis for the method, the only difference from what I used to that, is that I let the Self-illuminated material light up the scene. (check the 'Illuminates the Scene (when using FG)' check-box). In this last render you might notice that I have faked the interior too, you can get that effect by rotating vertical elements in PS by about 16 degrees or distort by -16 degrees.
About Ferring tower, I do not longer have the scene file for that, though I'm going to my parents for christmas and I have my old computer there, the file might be on it, besides even if I can find it the scene might be so badly organized that I wouldn't enjoy to keep on working with it. (I fear that my modeling skills wasn't what it is now back when I made it.) So I will look into it and see if it is possible to do that. Thanks for that link, even if Ferring tower might never be there's a lot of other interesting buildings in Denmark, and even in the same area. I like the projects by BIG in Ørestad like 8-tallet and Bjerget. :)
I had to take a look at houses from the Faroe Islands, I see what you mean, but it seem they don't use tiles for roof material but sod roofs and slate roofs. I don't think I will be doing a version with lighter red paint, I want them to be of colors typically used in Sweden and the red here is supposed to be what is known in swedish as 'Falu rödfärg' (red paint from Falun). I think I'm going to do one more color variation, and I'm leaning towards an ochre yellow color.
Swordmaster and Noahclem: Thank you guys. :)
So I'm at the very final steps of the process for the Aurora, it'll soon go to render, though I'm having problems with PIM-X (it's the problem with Win7 SP 1) so I do not know if I'm gonna use the regular PIM or wait for a new version or something else.
looks correct,
I would be less saturated above all reagrding the tiles roofs and a little bit for your walls (try a noise with 2 colors for giving a non-uniform effect) ;)
The Aurora (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/27039-nybt-the-aurora/) is now released an available on the STEX.
Girafe: Ok, yes a little less saturation would do them some good, about the wall, I think I need to accentuate the boards rather than adding a noise. BTW, this is about what I'm after http://www.flickr.com/photos/carniz/2785116596/.
Great little cottages. As noted Girafe, slightly reduce the saturation of colors and will be a revelation. I look forward to a full set of these houses. I can not wait for them. Excellent models :D There will be a great fit for rural areas.
Thanks DaveN. I have not yet reduced adjusted the colours to what I want but I still want to show you where I'm at with these houses.

And there's also a new project I'd like to show you, a residential building from Malmö.

Nice progress shots. The roof is a bit bright but it seems from the (above) post that you will be doing some color adjustment. You can add some TV antennas or small satelitte dish. How about a flue for the chimney? Doesn't have to be fancy (like the picture) but the eye of the casual gamer will see something and know what the intention is.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ft0.gstatic.com%2Fimages%3Fq%3Dtbn%3AANd9GcSF1ivas0RdWRqFEs9R3z27vY0V2RI4MVc8PX4EAoucO-pqVX9n8g&hash=b18a375e30e7b89c0e99dfe64c82e2a480e31d3a)
At the top of this chimney is brick, concrete/mortar, and clay.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ft1.gstatic.com%2Fimages%3Fq%3Dtbn%3AANd9GcRW_GPw3HiJH9Orlr--2LZjziJC4J5sdLLu5q5HtNebwhC7_mBy&hash=1b97664f45802688cd66230eab163b299aeb3947)
I have all sorts of things sticking out of my roof too. Static roof vents for letting hot air out of the atic during the hot summer months, vents for the furnace and hot water heater, and other pipe vents.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ft0.gstatic.com%2Fimages%3Fq%3Dtbn%3AANd9GcTjHPkWq8q4cMmHShEv_EelG_JtPfmrYi0h11KVhA-Qdtb2FARk&hash=e420d3e24c312c9d376d75c638ccfad0c84a0499)
Good Luck

Best set of houses. Ideally suited to the rural atmosphere. The block also looks great. I can not wait to see how you are ready and available for download. Great job. I cross my fingers.
OH wow! :o
These little houses are beautiful! And diagonals too, just perfect! &apls &apls
Are you still making any progress on them? And if you need help lotting I would be glad to lend a hand, I've also done Daven's houses (shown here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=13223.msg428073#msg428073)).
Oh, I've been neglecting this thread for too long, time to update. This is something I've been working on lately, 345 7th ave (https://maps.google.se/maps?q=345+7th+Avenue,+New+York,+NY,+United+States&hl=sv&ll=40.748107,-73.992727&spn=0.001103,0.002642&sll=60.586967,-20.478516&sspn=23.758593,86.572266&t=h&hnear=345+7th+Ave,+New+York,+10001,+USA&z=19&layer=c&cbll=40.748107,-73.992727&panoid=N5hAI8uqZzULlapF32x_gg&cbp=12,118.31,,0,-38.28) and is close to being finished. A few minor things and nightlights are left.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2Fthreefourfiveseventh.jpg&hash=519401d12b42a6eddb978fb1d2fbbd31ffad00b5)
Vortext: I got to the point of exporting them, so six or seven or so of them are done, but it's is a really boring process to render multiple buildings like that so I kinda stopped.
Another great building. How different from the previously shown little houses.
And here my question: If and when available a set of small houses and corner block shown in the previous update.
Once again, great job. Very well chosen colors and textures.
Best Regards
- Dave
Glad to see you're still active and what a great building. &apls
As for the small houses, I can imagine it's a bit tedious to export a large set like that though rest assured it would be greatly appreciated if you continued!
Hi antn - I just stumbled onto your thread and I wanted to say that your 19th century house project is looking very cool. I am eagerly awaiting their release. Keep up the great work.
I really love your 19th ctry. swedish houses!(could use them a lot ;))
It's really very good!!!
A couple of qustions:
- Is it a CO$$ or a CO$$$?
- How big is the model? I'm considering lotting possibilities, as well as proper modding so as to integrate it well with the Maxis stuff,
DaveN, vortext, SimCoug, Flatron: Thank you guys, I don't know how long it will take until I get back to the houses, but as there seem to be some interest in them I uploaded what I have so far, be aware that this is WIP so everything might not be in the right place and it's not very ordered, both Darknite and Maxis night are included. the files (http://antn.se/SC4/hus.rar). And DaveN, the corner blocks are available on the STEX here (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27274-augustenborg-houses/).
Cogeo: I am planning for a CO$$ 2 tile wide W2W lot, the building is 32 m wide, 23.5m deep and after the 133% vertical scaling, (as depicted in the pics) it's around 125m. So it'll be around the size of the Maxis CO$$ buildings, narrower than the buildings of its height. I don't think it will be suitable to compete with any of the Maxis lots with buildings of similar size as it need its W2W neighbouring buildings.
Very nice. Looking forward to seeing them in my city (though that may be a while).
Cheers
Willy
Great looking building &apls I also particularly like that Malmo residential building--I'd love to have more choices with that Scandinavian look.
Thank you very much!

Thanks a lot for Your great job. I have the block from STEX now, but the link for hus.rar file is corrupt.
I'm waiting for Your another great buildings.
Anotn what is the link for again, is it something new, I'm not sure what's going on. ()what()
Link works fine for me, thanks for sharing!
Though frankly, I have to say I don't care as much for alternative orientations than I do for building variaty. So why not stick to orthogonal and diagonal, might be easier with regard to rendering and exporting. That said, I will put these to good use, thanks again!
Thanks folks! :)
DaveN: I think the link is alright, seem to work for the others.
Aaron Graham: The link is to some of my Swedish houses, the one's that have been exported so far.
vortext: Maybe your right, at least I can export them in that order, to get variaty first, and after that the different orientations, as I want it that way when I get back to playing on my Swedish style cities.
So, I've finished the day scene for 345 7th Avenue, and the night scene is close to completion too. What do you think?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2F345night.jpg&hash=5c654aca09bf9aa51645e766aac1a2eb980c3a86)
The night lights looks fantastic!!! :D
Awesome!
Did you actually modeled the base of the building ? ( inside the bay windows)
This is a beautiful building! &apls
Just because of this and Aaron Grahams BATs it is a pity that I do not make NYC tiles..... But others will certainly use it when it is available.
looks really good.
IMHO a little bit too much red points on the reflexions.
Awesome work on the night lights :o
All these wonderful mid 20th century buildings are making me start a new American-styled city ;D Wonderful work indeed &apls
Great nightlighting! &apls
Lovely building!! Love the nightlights as well!!
Thanks guys :)
345 Seventh Avenue is now on the STEX, http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28222-nybt-345-seventh-avenue/.
Art128: Yes, the street level floors are modelled. :)
Great building. Thank you for making it.
Thanks RickD. :)
A new project, this time a little bit smaller, a 1x2 w2w from SoHo, 139 Spring street (http://goo.gl/maps/0orzD)
So far most of the modeling is done. The two views that is interesting at this point.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2Fz5s_3_139spring.jpg&hash=669d0dfffb587889c4f603aca2042f31eff48bc9)(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2Fz5w_3_139spring.jpg&hash=6aad3ad20f4a125dd808093fbb8194ea4b6b8aa4)
And for fun a perspective render to show all that wont be seen in game.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2Fperspective.jpg&hash=aaf273f98dcf4dc6ae9e8786a21222ded3141d0d)
Exciting new project! You certainly have a diverse range of projects and manage to pull off all the different styles spectacularly. I've really been enjoying your Danish housing bat recently, btw
Very nice &apls - this would fit right in with Aaron's latest creation.
Very detailed, a future awesome BAT &apls &apls
Wow, that's very nice, will be great for my collection of W2W buildings. ()stsfd()
Keep up the great work! :)
Love the details, keep it up mate. :D
Oh great, I can always use more corner buildings.
Thanks people! :)
Noahclem: Danish? Malmö haven't been Danish since 1658. :p
Some progress on 139 Spring Street, I've started on all textures, some are probably done.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.majhost.com%2Fgallery%2Fantn%2FSC4%2F139_spring_st_az.jpg&hash=7d4819e2b308079160e6b4b457b0c1fc308f9635)
Hey, you can't blame Noah for being stuck in the 17th c. :D
Looking great. I would make the roof of the water tank also dark, like the sides.
Cheers
Willy
I like it. The brick walls might be a bit to noisey. Maybe some texture like the one you used for the 345 7th Avenue building?
