Title: Need help with a question
Post by: Pat on December 03, 2008, 03:05:30 AM
Here I am setting up my shop and well I will be showcasing my work I will be doing for ITC and today I will be starting with a building some may remember and some may not... well if not thats OK and if you do well there is a slight change in plans but it will still be the MDK Building after all... Just the only thing changing is it will be ITC MDK Building, OK enough of me rambling here and here is some pics to tidy over here....

So that is the ITC MDK Memorial Building right now what is the status its currently in the hands of getting PIM-X as this will be a LEX exclusive lot for some time... The Bat was originally made by our very own Matt and was given to me to lot as a memorial to some time ago for the passing of OP4...

So now I want to get this lot right as there will be 2 version to choose from a 6x6 and 3x3... Originally Matt had asked me what it would look like on the 3x3 and then I showed him, it turned out rather good... At that time it was a plop with jobs only and well they are OK in my books I like what I do to grow...

Well that brings us to the present time frame here Ive been tinkering around here and there with the lot since around June and just couldn't get the 3x3 to grow at all!!! what you see up there is the 6x6 growing and that would grow no problem... Oh the stage sets are for the 3x3 is CO $$ and the 6x6 CO $$$ well at least that is what I had hopped for lol... So in all 4 lots would be available here once finished 2 for the 6x6 and 2 for the 3x3..

One grow and one plop...  This is one of the biggest projects I had ever taken on till recently, I broke down when I gotten frustrated with the 3x3 not growing at all and then I called out to Barby for help.. Well Barby was going to help out (her work horse is sick at the moment, and is in the shop getting fixed up to be healthy again) Robin has stepped to help so, well I just have to further touch base with him and we should have a working product here soon with the PIM-X tool yay!!!! Apparently some of my modding mistakes are still very noobish but have gotten a lot better so that makes me feel good!!!  ;)

Ohh here is the Icons I plan on using for the Plop with jobs for both the 6x6 and the 3x3

Can I point out that Barby isn't sick but her desktop computer's hard drive had gone to the cyber heaven for overworked machinery? I am waiting to get my computer back and restore my back up but I hadn't backed up since I got the files from Pat. I'm glad Robin is helping out.
As for me, well normal service should be resumed next week.

OK Here is a small devolpment shot of whats happening with the ITC MDK memorial building... A biiiiiiiig and I mean biiiiig thank you goes out to Robin for making these PIM-X'ed!!! I wish I could give a karma point to him for his hard for doing that for me and dealing with me on it lol.... OK so here is the lot line up on the

ITC MDK Memorial Building:

Dependencies that I will be using are going to be

Prop packs:

Texture Packs:

As you can see thes are common files as I think mostly everyone will have them and I might even trim out a few packs as well? But this is only a start and for 3 lots for a total 5 prop dependencies and 3 possible texture dependencies cant beat that deal!!!

Well I done had a good fare nocked out here on the MDK and I think I done messed something up when I tried to Brand the ITC name on the lot's... I went in game to do a test on the lots Robin gave me and after I've done some great LE'ing on them to lo and behold to find nothing in the building plops function... So a little delay here sorry about that as I fumble my way threw and learn what not to do gaaaaaaaaah

What happend to the textures Heblem? I love them soo much!!! They are the best out there for city's and XD's are perfect for country type parking lots.

Well as Matt pointed out I have been working around with the styles of the train station and this is what I have come up with... A lot has happend this time behind the scenes and I think this is what is happening, now depending on what you all thing let me know K!!!!

That's not bad, Pat - my one objection is that the roof is a little too red, it could probably be a duller orange-clay color... Not bad, though

Looks really good. My only suggestion would be maybe one more group of people standing near the main entrance, and maybe a few people on the platform. Depenacy list isn't bad at all, 4 of the 5 are quite common files.

Thanks Eric I will look into adding some people on the platform area...

in the mean time here is a test shot I did with diffrent postion of the station...

as you see it does also work at this placement and yes there is usage!!! I couldnt believe it  :o oooh and I know I shouldnt do it but I cant help myself I love Joans and XD's House's they look soo darn good here!!!

Title: Re: ITC Creations lot's and Modding by Pat Mission Style Large Train Station
Post by: Pat on December 25, 2008, 10:41:10 PM
As with all projects in progress name changes and well there has been a name change here for the better!!! The new name of this train station is the ITC Mission Style Large Train Station... By the name suggestion there will be more in this series of train stations!!! The next one up will be ITC Mission Style Medium Train Station and more will come on that as I get lotting on it  ;)

So in the mean time,

Merry Christmas all and to all a good night!!!

Here are some new photos to ogle over  ;D

as you can see there was a change in the base texture and with that there is a added dependency to the list and its only BSC Texture Pack vol 01... One thing that will be the same across the board is that all the train stations in the series will have the same dependency packs so there will be no confussion, sorta like what I did for the LBT Hotels I did...

So there is the start on the Medium Train station lemme know what you think!!!

size is 3x2, I was thinking to go a wee bit larger to a 3x3? So to make the front path area a bit bigger, Yes or no lemme know!!!

Also is there a tut anywhere to make a slope conforming lot? That is one thing I still dont know how to do yet... So any help would be greatfull!!!

I think that the overall lay-out of the Medium-Sized lot looks fine, but you should seriously consider to change the brick basetexture on it, since the one you have used at this moment doesn't really look convincing. Further on, it would probably be best if you kept one convenient style over all variations of the sizes.
Title: Re: ITC Creations lot's and Modding by Pat Mission Style Medium Train Station
Post by: Pat on December 30, 2008, 12:52:39 AM
Hey Cas thank you and I will get to the brick change here in a bit, here is what I came up with though in the mean time... Unless you think now that it works better this way I did it?

Me and Matt both thought that for this Medium Station though that it would be better not to have a parking lot and here we go with what I've been tinkering around with all day today...

The front looks good Pat, well done. The back on the other hand looks a bit sparse. If the building is going to sit back from the edge like that, perhaps a few benches would add something to it. Are the trees seasonal? Also, there is a brick texture I think might work even better than the two you have shown thus far. I'll shoot you a PM with the pic later, off to bed now. Good work on this one Pat. I'll see if I can finish up the smaller ones in a day or two.

The LOT looks really good Pat.  AS for the back, I would only add some benches and a fence at the sides of the building, forcing the sims to go through the building to pay.  ::)  ;)

It's getting there Pat. Little by little I think we're getting closer. I think the fence is unnecessary in my opinion. Around here, they check the tickets on the train itself, so it doesn't matter if they can access the tracks without going into the station itself. Also, did you move the trees on the side? I kind of liked the dense look of them when they were right on top of the bushes like in your update of the 29th. I like the seasonal thing though. Best of luck finding the texture. I'll look into it tonight and see what it says the ID is if you haven't found it by then. Happy New Year Pat.

Post by: threestooges on January 06, 2009, 05:33:52 PM
Heh, Pat, you're going to hate me by the time the lots are done. I keep seeing them and getting new ideas. I'll start with the medium one first:

I love the front of it. The trees and gardens look great and do well in leading the people to the front of the building. I'm not sure what the little blue and yellow things on the sides of this building are (pay phones?), but some how they seem to clutter the area. I would remove a pair from one side or the other. Also, I would cut two bushes from each side from the front part as well. It's a small lot, with a decent sized building, too much can make things seem crowded. Love the tree positions and the night shots too; I think we're about there on those. I would suggest movign the clock in the back off to the side of the door (away from the light that is back there with it to appx the same distance from the side of the door).

The large station:
I love the bushes at the front of the medium one. Would it be possible to do somethign similar with the large one? It would give it that spacing between the parking lot and platform that I had been thinking of earlier. I would move the blue things (pay phones I hope) closer to the building, or around to the side with the thing extending from it. Also, looking at the compactness of the medium lot, I'm almost wondering if taking a row of tile from the brick area would look better (not sure about this one though) but if you do, put the tree in that little area left open by the extension thing.

Sorry to keep altering things, but let me know what you think of these suggestions.
-Matt

LoL Matt naw its all good your just gonna cause me to have a total train wreck ehehehehe.... OK now that was the worst pun ever lol no honestly its alll good.... I want the feed back and I need it!!!

OK Medium Train Station I am honest here I didn't even realize the position of the clock till you pointed it out to me and that will be no problem to move that at all...  Yuppers you are right Matt those are Pay Phones there and I can remove a set as well a couple of bushes too... OK I think that covers the Medium station

Now to the Large Train Station, hmmm you said about removing tile of brick from the front I think I can whip that up or die trying!!! But I wont make the same mistake as Ive done and not make a backup just in case it don't look soo good... So you like the bush I have on the medium station and I think I see what you mean that it would be better then those round flower planters to break up the transitions... I will move the pay phones closer to the building no problem... I just noticed something about one of the trees in the open area is that its sitting right in the hedge lol.... I will fix that as well....

Sorry it's taken me so long to chime in here. I think I like version 3 the best, followed by 2,4, and 1. As for the thoughts about platforms, I think that would be a good addition as well. If I catch you on MSN Pat, we might chat about that, but I've had a thought.

I'm curious to know what you don't like about the station Orange_o_. I think the color might be a bit saturated, but I'd like to hear other opinions too.

It's looking good Pat, really good.

Hey Matt I thought you would like number 3 the best as I do too...  I cant wait to see what is whiped up far as platforms are done but I guess I will have to wait  ;)  But io_big did bring up that good point maybe that is what is missing from this station?

OK all just replies this time around and soon more progress on the lots but in the mean time please keep the suggestions coming in!!! I am always open to them no matter what!!!!

Matt I do not like too much the color of walls, in French this color is called " poo of the goose ". The roof is less attractive than on the other stations.

As I am not good in English, I prefer to make an image

They say a picture is worth 1000 words, and this one makes the point well. Thanks for showing it. I like the name for the color, and I can see where it gets that name. Earlier today I was playing with texture colors for the walls, and it's starting to get somewhat close to the color you showed. There may be a new version of the station coming soon (but it shouldn't mess with your lotting too much Pat, I hope... heh heh).

Matt I do not like too much the color of walls, in French this color is called " poo of the goose ". The roof is less attractive than on the other stations.

As I am not good in English, I prefer to make an image

img removed to keep things tiddy - pat

Orange

Orange I really think that the color you used is spot on!!!  hmmm now poo of the goose that would be umm pretty crappy lol....

Matt I agree and what better way then to use a pic of the lotting style that is most favored so far to show the changes in the color...  Don't worry about messing with the LOTting part Matt as long as there is some platforms then I will be happy lol  :D

OK all just waiting on some more new parts to play with here and then I will use the selection of v 3 and hopefully we can move on down to the next track....

OK I know I need my own IID Range and while I wait for it here is what I played with to test out my textures...

Yes that is right I am venturing out into texture creation!!! I am very excited and very thankful to Heblem for his help in this tut he gave me and how easy it was here [linkie] (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6923.msg219734#msg219734)... I have been working hard on the textures and finally come down to it where I wanted to learn how to make the base myself!!! I am glad I have learned now and I am ready for any thought so far!!!!

Nice venture here Pat. I see you haven't been sitting around much waiting for those models I promised you. They look pretty good, but I think the brick stuff in the center could use a bit of work. I'm not sure what look you're going for, but they seem a bit large, and the underlying part could be tweaked a bit to eliminate the visual gaps at the edges (this is coming from a guy who doesn't use photoshop much, so I know that's a fair bit of work). Good start though.

hehehe thank you Matt and I know Ive only begun to scratch the surface of texturing lol.... Speaking of which here is some more I tweaked and now I can move foward with a special request I had gotten some long time ago from Bruce  ;D

I know I got a little bit of white line there or noise or whatever its called but I think I know what I did wrong there?? But its a start and Matt I will try and figure out further on how to shrink down the center bricks there, I was hoping for a patio type setup there with them errr well honestly with that one I was just playing around lol... But I think it would go good as a patio setup... I have been playing around with textures while waiting yuppers and now I am armed with how to get them in game woooo boy are we in trouble now lol... Not bad for almost 30 in a few days lol

Well so far some good news on the texturing front here....  With the help from Barby I think I got my IID working now where I was able to finish off these textures.... I am though having this problem here,

I did do a modified version of the BSC parking lot textures where I changed them from the white to the yellow... Now my next question since I modified them due I still need permission to use them or how does it work for textures???

The other problem I am having is with two corner overlay textures there as you can see I have the white and its short on the inner corner??? Ive tried to adjust them but I am still coming up with the same problem that is circled in red...

Post by: JBSimio on February 13, 2009, 09:23:12 PM
Hi Pat!

As far as I know, a "modified" texture generally falls into the category of a new creation.  Many textures I've made are based off of others simply to make sure they would match up with those which already exsist.  I have a feeling that many textures fall into the same category... so it would become an issue of "how modified" does a texture need to be?  Kind of hard to make a rule about that beyond blatant and obvious plagerism.   :D  If I'm wrong, someone with a better grasp on protocol and ettiquette, please let me know.

Either way, in this case, the textures you've modified are mine and if permission is indeed necessary you can consider it officially granted!  ;)

As for your overlay problem... I'm not sure, but double check and compare the alpha texture with your colored texture.  It may be as simple as being one pixel off.

if your texture is with white background try filling it with a grey colour which also helps. from the picture thoe it looks like  1 pixel off.

Hey Jon thank you a million for the permission there!!! I always liked the that parking texture just I wanted yellow  ;)  I know I got an additional texture I want to add that would compliment it too whats already available and well I just gotta get off my butt and do it  :D I know I must be off just couldn't figure out which way???  Is it  the alpha being off or the colored, Im baffled by it???  I've tried several dozens ways to fix it and I still come up with the same problem...

Hey Dave thanks yea I know its frustrating me to no end... I will try and give it a try there with the grey filling in and thank you for the tip!!!

Since I learned how to do textures I had offerd to make a custom lot based off the picture and here is what I got so far... There is still some minor corrections I am trying to work on and they are circled in red...

Looking much cleaner Pat. I like the addition of extra parking too along the drive-thru. I was expecting parallel, but this looks pretty darn good too.

I know I know Matt lol I did try the parallel parking stalls but I couldnt get it and it just wasn't looking good....  I will be having another update as since this is the base for the 3x3 and as we talked about doing a 2x3, I should have that done this week by friday like we talked about...

EDIT: OK so I worked a bit faster lol then expected.... It was very simple to change a few things around and here is the 2x3 texture test.........

The textures look pretty good. I guess the real test will be how the building looks on such a lot. From the looks of things I may need to add another door to the building along the non-covered wall. Nice work Pat.

Great job with this! Good work fixing the bugs, too. I must say though - In the last in-game screenshot there appears to be two vehicles in the same place! It's on the far right on the lower/closer section of the parking lot.

OK here is an update from me on the KFC project.... I now have both lot sizes ready and waiting for the final model from Matt...

3x3

2x3

OK so that is the lots up close and personal there... Matt if you get to see this I was wondering if you could extend the Drive Thru Canopy out a little bit more, so that way it would be easier to get a prop thru there and plus to center out a little more... Would that be possible?

Before anyone says any thing about the one SUV yes I noticed it that its sitting backwards lol...

I think I can manage that Pat. I have the basic texturing done and I'm just working on some details for it now. I'll post an update in my BAT thread in a bit here. Extending the drive thru canopy shouldn't be a problem. Looks like another meter or two ought to do it.

Here is the Day pic of all three lots:

What has happend in the past year well its been a long one to say the least... Plus having to work on MDK has been at points when I had the energy to work on it... I want to thank Robin who modded all three lots with the PIM X Tool and also to Matt who gave me this Bat after Mike passed away!!

The Readme has also been a challenge for me as I wanted to do just one and not three seperate readmes lol... Yes I am stubborn but hey I figured out a way I could work it and I think it turned out just good...

Wow OK soo much has been happening like constant personal retesting of the ITC MDK which by Monday back to scrutineers with the minor corrections... IE name and added parking lot lights and a change up in some textures, well kinda figured it would use my personal textures now for the most part...
