Title: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode (GTM)
Post by: Jonathan on July 04, 2008, 02:35:43 PM
God terraforming in Mayor mode without the Ctrl-Alt-Shift trick.

Version 3 is attached to my latest post.

I have already made a mod that did this and is released on the STEX, but this caused all the buttons to be shifted down in the Mayor Menu and the buttons shifted up in the God menu and other things, so I decided to combine the God and Mayor Terrforming Tools into one menu, like this:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi200.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa230%2FwarriorST%2F2ndGTM.jpg&hash=769cbf30d854631b817aabb61b441686c5c41f67)

Readme:
God Terraforming in Mayor Mode (GTM) by Warrior (and lots of others for translations :) )

About it
This plugin modifies the Mayor Mode Terraforming Menu to include the God terraforming tools. It is known that it is impossible to add new submenus such as the ones that hold landmarks, networks, etc. All that is done here is that the God terraforming submenu buttons have been copied in the Mayor User Interface (UI).

Installation
As there are no other mods that do this it doesn't matter where you put it in your plugins folder, so if you have a method of organising your plugins folder, you don't need to create an exception for this.

Languages
The modd is available in 12 languages: (thanks to the people in brackets!)

English
German (Andreas)
Dutch (Caspervg and Mrtnrln)
Japanese (Ebina)
Danish (Unassigned)
French (Travis)
Swedish (RippleJet)
Norwegian (RippleJet)
Finnish (RippleJet)
Italian (Google Translator)
Spanish (Google Translator)
Polish (Google Translator)

Translations
Feel free to modify the Locale files to translate into your own language but make sure you do this correctly before uploading.
In some languages the translations for Mayor and God may be longer than in English please try and shorten this to fit the UI, if you absolutely can't them PM me (Warrior) or post in the thread at SC4Devotion.
If you do release translations (without needing to change the UI) please link to the original mod.

Other
This mod is not in anyway connected to the NAM.
The GTM thread is located here: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5164.0

That's fall-on-the-floor incredible stuff there, Jonathan.  I don't know that anyone has ever successfully edited the menu UI before.  We'd certainly like to hear more.

That is amazing, Jonathan. I tried it out and it works a treat. This makes using the God mode tools so much easier. Thank you. Providing there are no problems reported, would you consider posting this to the LEX?

I had considered posting this to the LEX, but I have no idea about how to go about it.

If you could let me have a Readme and two images 250x188 I can post it for you. The readme just needs to say what it does and where to put it in plugins.

Hello Warrior and Nice to meet you.  ;)

WoW!!  :o What a useful and convenient MOD it is !!  &apls  &apls
and I like a layout of menues so much. :)
Thank you for your development and sharing it Warrior. ;)

By the way,,
May I tell you my luxurious suggestion about it ?  :-[
Would you add to it "Land Effects" of a GOD-mode menues too ?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg382.imageshack.us%2Fimg382%2F5065%2F01on3.jpg&hash=dd58615b0a6ca6bf3d5b28bf62751eed05cc23cb)
("smoothly" and "erode, corrode". Sorry, I don't know what are they writen with English. :P)
It's a difficult work to make it ??
If it's possible, I want to you will make them that divided into two kind of versions "Three lines menues" and "(exiting) two lines menues"

It's really good MOD none the less !!  ;)
Thank you.

@Mas'71: If you use those effects, your WHOLE city will go down! That's a thing that you don't want to happen, right?

@Warrior: Great idea! This mod has some potential in it.

Post by: Jonathan on July 05, 2008, 10:28:25 AM
MAS'71: Mrtnrln is right about destroying your city with those buttons, I think it would be safer to have to press Ctrl-Alt-Shift befoer you click on them?

I have thought about adding Day/Night Controls and a Real Time Clock?
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: MandelSoft on July 05, 2008, 10:31:38 AM
Good idea, Warrior! One question: Does that Real Time Clock mean that the ingame clock will be at about the same time as the local time?
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: Jonathan on July 05, 2008, 10:40:01 AM
Do you mean if you are playing at 12 midnight then the game will be at 12 midnight and therefore dark?
If so no they will be entirely seperate.
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: Swamper77 on July 05, 2008, 11:50:16 AM
There is a realtime clock already in the game. It's hidden usually, unless you type "showtime" without quotes into the dialog that is accessible with Crtl-X.

This is something else altogether. Even though I have not had time to try it out, the mere fact that you successfully edited the in-game menus leades to all sorts of other stuff!  &apls

If you can do this - what is stopping you from finally winning the SC4 Nobel price for rearranging the other game menus?  "$Deal"$

Thank you for reply Warrior and Mrtnrln.  ;)
Hahahaha... :D Yes, taht's right.
I understand well your right consideration. ;) I have think sometime that want to use "smoothly" and "erode".

However,
I'm satisfied enough with the MOD of the present version, and anyone will think so.
and I'm convinced that it will be one of most standard MOD in our SC4. ;)

Thank you again Warrior.

If you hover your mouse over the date you will get the game clock come up.

I had to edit UI file to display Japanese text in game.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg385.imageshack.us%2Fimg385%2F4262%2Fgodtfinmayorjapanesejb1.jpg&hash=010d9722868f6a4aacd2dbb45928109278ed6269)
Now UI file loads external LTEXT files. Both updated UI file and Japanese LTEXT are attached to this post.
Replace English_Compact.dat with English_Compact_Loads_External_LTEXT.dat.

TGIs I have assigned for English are...
"Mayor" = 2026960b / 2a592fd1 / 0705ea61
"God" = 2026960b / 2a592fd1 / 0705ea62

If your game is Japanese version, game will display Japanese text automatically by Group ID. Other language versions should display English text unless your languages are available.

EDIT: Have removed attached files.
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: Jonathan on July 06, 2008, 04:28:25 AM
I had ditched the LTEXT files because the German and Dutch words for Mayor are too long for the UI, so the UI had to be modified anyway, but I guess the LTEXTs allow for more flexibility.

Thanks for doing the Japanese version anyway, did you say the game will automatically decide what LTEXTs to use? Or should an installer be made  to choose which language?

@ebina, tell me please where to install the Locale file? I can make the Polish version too!

Thank you, Warrior, this will be useful. If you'd like Danish versions of your menus I can do the translation (the Danish word for "mayor" is almost as long as the German one).

Check this tutorial. - LTEXT - Language Text Files (How to make multilingual buildings and queries) (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=532.0)
If you take this way, all language version can be merged into only one .dat, no need to separate file for each language.

The more languages the better,

If you can translate into another language, can you post translations of "God" and "Mayor"(as in Terraforming Tools) in your post, so that I can see which UI file to use.

Also is there somewhere I can find what languages need which Groups IDs? Answered before I could post!

Thanks for the support, I hope to have a final version before the end of the Weekend which is 8pm GMT for me.

EDIT:There will still need to be some seperate for each language for the UI size.

Well, if "Bürgermeister" (or similar) is simply too long for the UI, I guess you could use an abbreviated form, i. e. "Bürgerm." for the German translation. I'll have a look at the files myself later, so maybe I'll find a way to fit in the text properly.
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: Jonathan on July 06, 2008, 07:01:39 AM
I just made a longer version of the UI, German and Dutch share the same UI and Japanese and English share the same UI. I'll post pictures in a minute.

EDIT: The German version

Danish:
"Mayor" - Borgmester
"God" - Gud

For the modes, Danish SC4 DeLuxe uses "Borgmestermodus" and "Gudemodus".
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode
Post by: Andreas on July 06, 2008, 07:14:10 AM
The shortened version doesn't look too bad either. :)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg355.imageshack.us%2Fimg355%2F4065%2Fgodmodetoolsvt8.jpg&hash=9745ed5e0ffd9379c117939588eb0fc90d631dcc)

I guess it's even better to spell out "Bürgermeistermodus" and "Gottmodus" (Mayor Mode, God Mode), but that's obviously depending on your personal taste.

BTW, I noticed that the forest button of the God Mode tools doesn't have a label when you hover with your mouse over it. I'm not sure if this is a quirk of my game, or if it needs fixing in your UI.

I prefer the shortened version myself, if there's a shortened Dutch version (I'm guess without the "optie" bit?) that would be great, and it would be much easier for installation.

Well, I guess an English readme would be sufficient. If I may upload the mod to our German SimCityKurier, I'd provide a German readme, of course. :)

I had asked Caspervg for Mayor/God Terraforming but I guess Mayor/God mode is fine, thanks.

I think this should work, they use the shortened versions.
It needs to be tested on English, German, Dutch, Japanese and Danish games. And also I'd like to know what you think of the readme, which I'm generally not very good at.

I'd also like to have Spanish, Polish and French.

EDIT: Oh when this is finally finished, you can pload it to other sites, but not meaning to sound rude or anything, can I ask you give me some credit?

GTMv2.1 is attached.

Tested on a Danish SC4 DeLuxe purchased this winter/ Danish Win XP Pro.

The mod works fine. The last letter of the Danish word for mayor is not displayed (it seems there is not sufficient space), you could use "Borgm." (including the ".") instead.

I appreciate being mentioned in the readme.

I tried the GTM as well and one thing I noticed was that after going into Water Pollution dataview (to see the ocean floor) and using the GTM God tools, was that seaports tended to like to auto-level to the seafloor.

The only way to solve this was to a] terraform w/o the Water Pollution Dataview on or b]terraform w/the Water Pollution Dataview on, save and exit to region, then use land/water lots.

Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode (GTM)

Thanks Mrtnrln,

Dragonshardz, I placed a seaport, switched to water pollution, used GTM God Tools and nothing happened, when I was away from the seaport or near the seaport, and when I went over the seaport it demolsihed like it should, I didn't find the seaport sinking.

And I only use the Maxis seaport, if it makes a difference, try using the Ctrl-Alt-Shift thing to go back to god mode, and try remove the GTM.
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode (GTM)
Post by: dragonshardz on July 06, 2008, 09:20:01 AM
No, this only happened AFTER terraforming with the GTM in Water Pollution, then placing a custom land/water lot. One of the lots I tested this out with happened to be a seaport that replaces the Maxis seaport.
Title: Re: God Terraforming in Mayor Mode (GTM)
Post by: Jonathan on July 06, 2008, 09:24:50 AM
OK now I switched to water pollution, terraformed, plopped a seaport, and everything was normal,

So I start again, switch to water pollution, terraformed, switched back to nomral, ploped a seaport, and still everything is normal.

Is anyone else having this problem?

No, I noticed that myself in my German version of the game. Must be a bug in the UI file (probably a wrong or missing LTEXT ID).

Warrior, I did some God mode terraforming on a fresh all-land tile in water pollution mode (created some water areas), went back to n ormal mode and plopped Maxis seaport, car/passenger & passenger ferriy terminals then plopped some PEG auto-level ports and terminals, Goldiva's water taxi and Yacht Club and some JRJ Seawalls without encountering any unexpected ssues.

Na  I highly doubt your crazy, it's more likely the game.

Here is version 3, updated readme, fixed text for Seed Forests and more languages (now thats 12) (thanks to Travis, RippleJet and Google)
The new languages are,
French
Swedish
Finnish
Norwegian
Italian
Spanish
Polish

These need testing on their respective languages games. Hopefully the ones by Google(Italian, Spanish, Polish) aren't wrong contextual or not.

Please test and report back soon, I'll have an installer and LEX stuff ready soon once no more bugs are found.

Thanks to everyone who's downloaded and given feedback and shown their support.

I think I found a little issue with your mod. I sometimes run SC4 in a window at 800x600 resolution, and the game seems to load a different UI for that resolution. The result is no god mode tools in mayor mode. Look.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg146.imageshack.us%2Fimg146%2F2847%2Fbuggtmvj8.th.jpg&hash=83e13471c1b78409fe89ccf376bd522fd53b2395) (http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=buggtmvj8.jpg)

And it works just fine in 1024x768.

Maxis made two different UIs, one for 800x600 and one for all higher resolutions, I didn't make a version for 800x600, becauseI didn't think many people ran the game in 800x600, but if I am wrong and quite a few people do, I'll get around to make a version for 800x600 as well.

For me it is not much of an issue, I only go to 800x600 when testing certain mods and for taking pictures, I don't think it is worth the extra effort making a version for an almost obsolete resolution.

Hello,
speaking of God Mode in Mayor mode, does anyone think it's possible to lower the level of the city during mayor mode without demolishing everything? I really need to lower the level back to green texture (now it's yellow) while preserving my city, anyone have any thoughts?

no it's not possible, that tool will demolish your city no matter what mode you are in.

Hi guys...
I'm kinda new to SC4 editing but I want to help somehow and as this great add-on don't have a portuguese translation, I want to contribute with it, but I don't know how to edit the Locales.dat...
So, if someone could help me to do, I would be happy to translate it...
See ya...

LuscaFucsa, this is probably the wrong place to ask. I would recommend going to international support or modding and asking there.

You have to use the reader to do it. If you give me the Portuguese translations of the words 'God' and 'Mayor', I could make the version for you and send it to warrior, so he can upload it. Though he can also do it himself for that matter.

Don't have time for detailed tutorial, but when you have loaded the locales.dat in the reader, copy two LTEXT files (preferably the English ones), one having mayor in it, the other God, and alter the words to their Portuguese translations. Be sure to hit the Apply button! If you used the English version, that is all work that is needed.

Regards,
Korot

Edit: Thankfully, there exists babelfish to translate the required words. If I just new how to attach files, I could upload it here for you.

At the bottom of the post writing bit there's the words "Additional Options." Click on that, then it's pretty simple from there.

Clicks on words.
I only see the following things:
No attach file button or something.

Maybe there's something wrong with the permissions. Contact an admin, they can have a look if there's a bad setting somewhere.
