I'm really impressed by your traffic system  &apls
Well done

Haljackey should be hired by some transportation department in the US, he knows how to build highways and upgrades within reason, unlike the morons that are paid to do it now  :)

I love this thread, its nice seeing how much the NAM has impacted the game

If you hire Haljackey, everything will be transformed into asphalt and skyscrapers :D

lol. If you want to pit an in for me I'd be more than happy to work there. Currently looking for planning and development jobs relative to my field (studied geography, geographic information science, urban planning and urban development)... just gotta get my foot in the door somewhere. :P

Well since this thread has awakened from a long sleep may as well update it.

"Update" 19: RHW Components that have not come to pass

This update will show RHW pieces that did not make it to a final release. Most of these concepts have either been abandoned or transformed into something else. Never say never however, as some of these may be made some day or transformed into something more practical modding-wise.

Let's start with this. Elevated RHW over avenue. I think Blue Lightning tried to make this one.

Next is a frontage road connection. Here's my take on it using the NWM to create transfers and u-turns.

There was once a 'jughandle' curve that was possible to make with the MIS prior to RHW 5.0. Today it's a missing link as it was considered impractical.

El-RHW to raised avenue transitions were also taken off the list, but they still work when brought together. (A elevated highway to el-RHW transition piece does exist)

Double 's' curves are nice, but I'm hoping for double FARHW pieces one day. They're possible with avenue, so why not RHW?

Double FAR curves would make designs like this more appealing ascetically speaking.

Another big 'nono' from day 1 was RHW-avenue intersections. It was thought many would exploit the RHW by failing to make them for what they are intended to be. However I'm still for them because they work well on 'expressway' class RHWs. (Limited access highways built to a lower standard and can have intersections.)

Another piece I'd like to see is the RHW-6C to dual RHW-4 with RHW-2 in the middle for elevated segments. It would work well
for scenarios such as this: I want this RHW to connect to the avenue below it.

This kind of a setup is similar to the Pilaski Skyway in New Jersey

Anyways that will do it for now. Hope you enjoyed the update!

Always great to see some more Archives--it's like a Transit Modding Museum in here, and I can't think of a better curator.

Those were actually his first two puzzle pieces, while he was still a NAM Associate, as I recall.  They worked, but it was an odd experience trying to use them, as the traffic on the RHW side was going like it was LHD mode, in order to counteract the deck-jumping issue.  The pieces didn't go much beyond that initial proof-of-concept because of that, but they proved he had the skills to be a full NAM Team member.

Actually, the reason it's not there is simply because the textures were accidentally omitted for that "boomerang bend" (to use the internal NAM Team terminology for that piece). :P  The code's still there, as evidenced by the fact that the rest of it works save that texture.  It'll be rightfully restored in NAM 31.

That mainly has to do with the timing of the Elevated Avenue Viaduct revamp, which had been planned for years, before finally coming to fruition with NAM 30.

That one's on the official FARHW plans.

However I'm still for them because they work well on 'expressway' class RHWs. (Limited access highways built to a lower standard and can have intersections.)

Part of the intent there was to force people to downgrade to Avenue, which, in a way, had a nice aesthetic benefit of activating the Avenue Turn Lanes (or later, a reason to use Avenue TuLEPs), and reduced the capacity, giving the user more incentive to add grade-separation once the intersection reached a high enough volume.  The notions of "expressway-style" RHW-4 systems (things like this), and using RHW-4 as an "MIS-2" have been the most viable rationales for adding that functionality.  I'm still on the fence about it, but I'm more favorably inclined toward it than I was circa RHW 2.0.

Most definitely.  I'd say that's probably the most requested ramp interface for the elevated networks, actually.

That OWR-4-into-Dual-OWR-2 splitter already exists.  It's a draggable transition built using the end-stub technique (see the NWM Readme), so you won't find it under the puzzle piece buttons.

A couple things:

This is what that jughandle/boomerang curve looked like in RHW 4.0 as a comparison:

And secondly, as a part of my archives project, The GTR (my old CJ/MD) will be temporarily updated with 'old' content. I recently came across some content in some of my backup files that I thought was lost. The updates will showcase late 2007 to mid 2008 content and how the NAM and RHW were able to fit in a dense urban climate. (Link is in my signature)

"Update" 20: Real Life Inspired Interchanges

In 2012, I made some RL-inspired interchanges with the RHW network. I think now's a good time to archive them before I forget.

Note: these are PNGs and have quite a large filesize. They may not load. If not, click the links below to see them (and for full resolution)

Hope you enjoyed them!

Swordmaster

Looks like I missed the previous posts here due to my vacation. Some great setups here, and some weird ones as well. Always good to come back here.

Nice to preserve these interchanges for posterity. I think they were some of the best constructions I've seen made with RHW 5.0 over the years.

Cheers

Sure... Here's a mini-update for you.

Made this junction with RHW 4.0. Hard drive died and latest backup files I had were a few months before I made this creation.

After putting it off for a long time, I decided to tackle it with RHW 5.0.

Which looks better? (Don't mind the monorail/HSR/BTM glitch, I'm working on fixing that :P)

That first one is interesting. Shame you lost it! Oh and btw that rail station looks superb with the rest of it!

That curve...

RHW 1.3, ANT retexture mod (RHW-2).

AngryBirdsFan436

Ironically, Haljackey, on page 445 of the RHW thread, you can see a fix for the jughandle curves! :D Scroll down and you'll see that somebody posted a picture of the bug. A post later, Tarkus made an attachment fix for the curves. You can just download it there! Although, NAM 31 is just 1 week away, so I think you may not need it! ;)

Also, notice the difference in width between the orthagonal and the diagonal stretch. It looks hideous!  ???

Yup, I'm looking forward to having those curves patched in NAM 31.

Ya, sizing for diagonal stretches were a issue in early versions of the RHW, but at least they worked!

"Update" 21: The Superhighway Lives Again

I got a request from Need4Camaro to do a remake of my 'classic' Superhighway video. I figured now was the time to do it before Project Symphony comes out.

A little history, it was Need4Camaro that inspired me to make the original video after watching this vid from him in 2008.

A couple months later, I released my first 'superhighway' video. It now has over 100,000 views.

And just today, I released a HD version of that same stretch... but exploring secondary stretches as well.

Fun little note: I haven't built any MHW since 2010. This was my last stretch:

Great video as always, you make MHW look great! :P

Great video, Hal! What kind of tree mod do you use? Is it the CPT Tree Replacement Mod?

I use so many tree mods now that I don't even know. But CPT does ring a bell if that helps. :P
