Hi all. Here is my thread ;)

I've started making a set of diagonally rendered w2w buildings:

Building with red roof is from simtrop. by ferox

Problems: it's hard to fit building to each other and to streets/sidewalks. Also some shadows don't look good. I rendered sidewalks into model files as ferox has made (I did that also in my Karjala Insurance)..

I'll try different architectural style this time, these are "jugend"/classism..

Yay! I was actually looking for more diagonal W2W buildings, as they would have come in handy in my MD. But this is looking great, and I'll be more than willing to wait for them! I've always loved your work, especially the diagonal parks and the Uspenski Cathedral !

Good luck!

Hi prepo ,

Firstly I want to congratulate you for the great BATs you gave us since 3 years .... &apls &apls &apls
You're the BATer of the first triangular building , the first triangular park set , the Ympiratalo ... so a specialist of buildings out of the ordinary by their architectural forms !
I was glad to see you in the "Introduce yourself ..." thread but I wasn't expecting a BAT thread so quickly .
What a project !  &apls

Awesome Prepo... the game needs more of these!  Your parks are a great addition and your others are great as well!!

EDIT:  Btw, where are Ferox's diagonals available?  There are only a few on Simtrop, and I can't seem to find the red or yellow ones...

I know only that one with a red roof ("Warsaw Geberthner And Wolff Diagonal" in first and second pic). Other diagonals in pictures are mine...

Hi Prepo,

First I want to say that I am a big fan of your work. second I also love Suomi. My niece maried a Finnish Fighter pilote. so I've been a few times in Finland. I don't speak the language yet (unfortunately) But I intend to go there more often. The nature is astonishing and Turku and Helsinki are beautiful cities.

But back to your bats. I am thrilled to see you tackle the niche of diagonal buildings in SC. they look very Helisinkian to me. are they?

Good luck!

Hi Strechnitz,

Yes, these are mostly based on buildings in Helsinki.. not any particular though, I just took details here and there.
There are no much survived historical buildings in Finland if you compare to most of Europian countries, I'm just reading a book about historical architecture and it says that only 2,5 % buildings here are built before our independence (in 1917). Finnish towns were really small in the past and buildings were also small and mainly made of wood...

From Helsinki:

Some old buildings from my hometown Pori:

Strechnitz

That is true. Most of the buildings were made of wood. You probably know the history of Tsar Alexander II. Finland was his crowncolony, it included east karelia back than. He wanted to turn Helsinki into a stone city. After Augustus' famous words. "I found rome as a city of brick and left her a city of marble" So he funded building projects to this end.

The Upenski Cathedral, the university and its library, and a few other buildings were done. not have of what the finns wanted to do. but Alexander was mean on money so they simply hadn't enough to built more. When he made a surprise visit to Helsinki they showed him the cathedral and the buildings around the square, as well as the avenueadjoining the esplanade. they did so 3 times. then he demanded to see the rest. He was a bit dissapointed to see the rest off the city built of wood.

But nothing is wrong with wooden houses. he just didn't like them. A lot of stone structures are built since then. But I need not tell you that. $%Grinno$% I just like the story a lot.

I haven't been to Pori I think. But perhaps I will next time when I come to Finland.

Strech.

Great bats prepo; these are very unique and useful.
I love the buildings in the photos you have posted. They seem to have a sort of organic style between small russian buildings and small parisian ones. They are very interesting...
