Title: Photobucket new subscription plan...
Post by: frdrcklim on May 29, 2019, 06:52:52 PM
I'm just gonna post it here as I think this is a big issue, assuming people who posted pictures haven't done something about it yet, but I received an email from photobucket a few weeks ago about their new subscription plan. I haven't acted on this email until today, where it mentions that the new pricing will take effect tomorrow, June 1, 2019. Basically, it's paying more to get the same service. They've reduced the free plan to just 25MB/month.

Now, I'm not sure what will happen when your photos exceed 25MB, but I'd expect the worse. We could see a lot of pictures in SC4D and even Simtropolis just not work as I do recall photobucket was the go to place to store your photos and just putting the image link of the photo to SC4D. I'd imagine a lot of old photos just not work. And as SC4 has seen better days, I don't think a lot of people will notice. But it would be a shame if most of the pictures at the Show us your... boards would cease to function.

That said, the new pricing for 25GB/month is 4.99. If that's not a big issue, then I guess paying for a monthly small sum would be alright. Though, I'd imagine it as an unnecessary expense.

Sorry for thread reviving, but just another update to the photobucket debacle. I've gotten an email saying I've violated terms of use because now they've added that hosting pictures on the free-tier is in violation of their terms of service. Also, I logged in to check in on my account and it says that if no action is done within six months, they'll give a bill for their $5 tier (which I don't know how they'll do that since I don't have credit card information their :-\). Honestly, I think if they did that, they'll be greeted with a lot of angry users. In any case, I'm moving my stuff to google drive and editing any of my previous posts that I know of to link to google drive instead.

Seem like a really bad move from them again. I should check my accounts there.

Oh wow.
So my two options are either pay up the ransom or delete my pictures.  :D :D :D :D :D :D       :angrymore:

That is why I created a private server in discord to upload all my images for free and without compression.

I checked my account too and nothing strange happened, but if it starts blackmailing me my reply will be simple. Drop the torch and run away! This means that most of my pictures from my MD "Eden: The New Frontier" and my Barsoom Project work will be vanished, but I refuse to feed the greedy beast.

And I got this:

"You have exceeded the 250 image free tier limit. Your options are to either upgrade to a paid plan or remove images to continue using your free account."

Is there a way to download all of my 741 pictures at once? If no, it's deleting time.
