Well here we go, time to put those thinking caps on and start making your selections.
The comp will run the entire duration of the World Cup and will be split into two distinct periods, the Group stage and the Knockout Stage (final 16). The point system will be slightly different for each period as a winner must be determined for each game in the Knockout Stage whereas in the Group stage the game can finish in a draw.
The winner of the comp will be the person who has accumulated the most points once the final match has been played. A table showing progressive player points will be updated throughout the comp.
At the moment we will concerntrate on the Group stage. The aim here is to pick the result of each match and you have two choices :
Win: You pick the winner of the match. You will get 1 point for getting this right.
OR
Draw: If you think it will be a draw at the end of regular play you can pick this.
You will get 1 point for this.
We will try to provide you with as much time as possible to make your selections which are due roughly twelve hours before the first game of the round.
You will see shortly, a poll at the top of this thread. The expiry time of the poll is the selection deadline, this should save you having to worry about time zones. You are not required to answer the poll :)
Your Round 1 selections are to be posted here, although if you wish, they can be sent by PM to tooheys, Diggis or Art128. Please ensure that you copy in all 3 people.

I do wish my country took football more seriously. Had a foot injury when I was young so I played keeper as a kid. It was always my favorite sport to play for that reason...never had to run around!

Can I please ask people either write [team] win or draw beside the pick, not just give me their guess at a score. It's hard enough entering the picks without having to work out the winner from each match by the score. :-[ By all means take a guess at the score, but it has no bearing on the tournament.
