INTRODUCTION

The basis of this City Journal is a multiplayer made by me Collgab, Mightygoose, and TheQuiltedLlama. The story is basically about a small group of Humans escaping the destruction of their home world of Earth. They arrived at Telau Prime and now have to create a whole new Human Civilization. The three nations on Telau Prime that are currently active are The Democratic Republic of Scandanovia, The Workers Assembly, and the United Atal Empire. While not a true, scripted, story CJ, this CJ will be about the growth and interaction of three fledgling nations trying to rebuild what was left behind of a once great Human civilization. We will be updating seperatly, and each of our nations has different political views etc. This  page will be where we will post the table of contents once we get big enough, hope you enjoy!

PART ONE

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2Fearth.jpg&hash=61576f39d0bae38ec79f3c348e32fab0e2439ee0)

- (163.14YT) - (June 2014) -

Gliese 9261 is discovered by Stephen Baxter, a student in the United Kingdom, using the LSST 8.4m optical internet telescope. The body was 4 times the diameter of the earth and 1600 times more massive. Believed to be a brown sub-dwarf, the ancient remnant of a distant supernova, it's trajectory through the solar system would catastrophically alter the orbits of Mars, Earth and millions of asteroids. Once this had been confirmed, the UK government contacted world leaders across the globe to discuss potential solutions. The body was too large and too dense to be destroyed or diverted so the only remaining option was to get out of the way. After ruling out Mars as a potential new home a great search for extra solar planets began in earnest.

- (125.01YT) - (May 2090) -

It was the 13th of May when Lawrence Telau discovered the binary star system that later took his name. Of all the surveyed stars with planetary systems this was the nearest that could support human life. At 106 light years away it would take a century or two to reach but was mankind's only option. Simultaneously scientists had been refining the predictions on Gliese 9261, nicknamed "Baxter's revenge" after the long dead Cassandra, and had discerned it would begin affecting Earths orbit in the year 2145. It was decided that the ship would need to leave by the year 2141 at the latest to ensure safe passage past the rogue body.

- (100.8YT) - (December 2140) -

The Titania, the largest man made structure ever built leaves earth orbit under the power of its massive NERVA rocket motors. Once this initial Burn took Titania out of high Earth orbit toward the inner solar system all pre-burn checks for the main flight sequence were conducted. Titania had a closer approach to the sun than any other probe launched. At Perihelion 50% of the fuel reserve was expended in a gravity assist burn that sent Titania hurtling toward its final destination. Once this risky and previously unattempted maneuver was complete the Titania's Ion propulsion system was fired up. This would gradually accelerate the ship from its already colossal speed to its maximum velocity of 0.6c roughly 100 years hence at the halfway point of the journey. It would then gradually slow the ship down until the final burn brought them safely into orbit around Telau Prime.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2Fteaser3.jpg&hash=1237ee4e22df4627feb3a73e188d69273824944e)

- (50.4YT) - (July 2240) -

The Titania reaches the halfway point of its journey and successfully completes it's attitude adjustment and begins breaking with its Ion drive.

PART TWO

- (0.0YT) - (12th March 2341) -

The Titania arrives in Telau Prime orbit after completing its final burn. Landing ships deployed to primary landing zone. Colony one established. Ships captain decides that he shall rule autocratically until basic civilization is achieved at which point he will host general free elections.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi70.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi100%2Fcollgab%2FSSP02.jpg&hash=024452dbbb0de7e11a184d40beb9ab4299dca005)

- (0.4YT) -

Basic civilization achieved. Colony one is now totally independent of all supplies and materials brought from Titania. Mines have been established as well as agriculture and manufacture. Commerce is starting to take off on a small scale. Leader maintains power.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2Ffarm.jpg&hash=72bc5641eedfe9c2644779887af339b811131c68)

- (0.9YT) -

By this interval Colony one has a population of nearly 10 000 people, a 5% increase on landing population. Education and healthcare systems have been setup as well as judiciary systems and emergency services. Leader maintains power.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2Ftownhall.jpg&hash=3b8cded67f183cb95393aeba7a28a433890683c9)

- (0.11YT) -

Protests as to the leader's ongoing autocracy, fearing he has become power hungry. Demands of elections fall upon deaf ears. As popular unrest among supporters of the opposition grows Leader enforces stricter laws and enables emergency powers when political rioting begins. Angst amongst the loyalists combines with anger from the opposition culminating in mass demonstration outside the main government offices. 45% of the population protested with a significant proportion present to spectate. Armed enforcers block the steps and Leader offers an ultimatum: "Either you will agree to terms on which I have built the new colony, you will leave or you will enter servitude" It was rapidly decided that the opposition would exodus to find a new home where they could have democracy. Leader offered them use of the original landing ships, which they begrudgingly accepted and relocated to Scandanovia.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theage.com.au%2Fffximage%2F2007%2F05%2F07%2F0507paris2_wideweb__470x332%2C0.jpg&hash=4ade401b2bb7b3385ac47d837a75e6cf15dd3dbb)

- (0.14YT) -

In Scandanovia it was decided a new Democratic republic would be set up. Within weeks the first elections were held. The two main parties to emerge were the Republican Party, which wanted to set up a democratic socialist country based on countries in the old Europe, and The Workers Assembly which wanted to form utopian communist state on the new planet. The Republican Party marginally won, however it was noted that many of those who worked in setting up these first elections were supporters of the Republicans. The Workers assembly demanded official enquiry as to the legitimacy of the results as preliminary polls showed their supporters to make up approximately 62% of the contemporary Scandanovian populace. The inquiry, known as the Fox-Hubbard report, revealed that the results were valid and so stood. This was not the answer the Workers Assembly were looking for and although suspecting republican treachery resolved to move to yet another of currently unoccupied continents.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2FRepublicanParty.png&hash=2e753c049b1bea94b71ed3799b9137abf9e57678)(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2FWorkersAssemblycopy.png&hash=2936198d5561ebf137722345235fa43852190f4d)

- (0.15YT) -

The Workers Assembly settled on the Northern shore of Caprica. Founding an initial fishing colony and sending prospectors to evaluate the rest of the continent for mineral deposits.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2Ffishing.jpg&hash=49f0567014a02273e6ad7fca1ed3ec039b24507e)

- (1.0YT) -

All three nations have settled on different continents on the planet and have very little communication with each other, thus began a silent race to develope their nation so that when communication was reopened they were in the best possible stead as help would come from no one.

Such farming villages were soon set up all around the country, each would contain a small collection of housing and large farming areas where the inhabitants would work. This was the first major scheme that was started by the republican government and agriculture is expected to employ over 60% of the total population by 20.0YT. The Government is encouraging private enterprise by offer subsidies to establish privately-owned farms, but currently most are still state-owned. In the future there are plans to build large greenhouses to introduce more intensive farming into economy.

In keeping with the teaser mosaic theme here is the first image from The Workers Assembly
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maj.com%2Fgallery%2Fmightygoose%2Fcaprica%2Ffirst_image.jpg&hash=fe35c14410396cab2960484ad90ff3bce0194ba1)

The town of Tordov where the citizens of the assembly settled first on the continent of Caprica is still the primary settlement. The image here, taken during an aerial survey in 25YT(approximately 50 earth years after landing), shows that the majority of roads are still dirt and that many houses have still not been built from their initial prefabricated state. note the rail lines leading to the mines to the north.

Until next time.

Looking real good there John!!! Just one question though why did you do a road there around the one building?
Title: Re: TELAU PRIME
Post by: warszawa on April 22, 2008, 09:38:39 AM
Thats looking very good!  &apls
Three main things that bring out the realism are the homes in Tordov, dirt roads beside them and the trees.
The effects on the picture makes it look polluted... Is this what you are aiming to do?

It looks very promisive!
- Very professional presentation from the first moment, excellent RL/SF pictures!  &apls
- An excellent phtoshopping of The Workers Assembly mosaic.

I am very curious of this MD development. I like SF themes a lot, but to say honestly, I didn't see any MD made in a realistic manner, but giving a really different feeling than our usual cities. I think your ideas are very thoughtful so your MD looks very promisive for me. I wish you good luck, you can create something unique!

Adam

Edit: Will it be similar to the Giedi Prime? Or Kaladan? Or maybe a sort of Ix or Tleilax?  ;)

Hello everyone, your all probably saying, "jeesh he's finally posting his update", well sorry I've been busy hehe, anyways here it is, I also followed the little theme TQL started with the mosaics, enjoy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi70.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi100%2Fcollgab%2Fmosaic1111-2.jpg&hash=d9d3f483712c201163f3d10d4c9da8cee96d72d3)

Riverfall was the original colony of the humans that arrived on Titania. The town was only 1YT old when the great seperation of the followers of the captain, named Holhkor Atal, and the democrats that fled to Scandanovia. The beautifully senic city of Riverfall is now 32YT old, and sits atop the great falls that go into Lake Entarius below. The cities current population of 1000, are mostly farmers, although small commercial businesses have popped up in the city of Riverfall.

Collgab; Love that waterfall of yours, looks really great. Totally awesome location for a town right there by an mountain lake.

Mightygoose; Tordov looks nice too, Utopia ftw. The large warehouse-looking building really fits in with the theme, being a distant colony that is.

Great work both of you!

A small Fishing village on the coast.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2F04-1.jpg&hash=cc7b297bdcf124cb16bd0d74ec909904ba09815e)
The seas around Scandanovia are rich with sea life and fish has already become a major part of the diet in the country. The Fishing industry is the second biggest employer in the country, after farming. Seen on this picture is the first rail line built in the country, which will soon connect the village to the Capital.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2F01-5.jpg&hash=f037740493b01f0503b22eb029c14637e7b40788)
The houses are mainly small pre-fab buildings which are quickly constructed but still of good quality. They are expected to last 5-10 years, after which more permanent structures. This village is hoped to become a major centre of industry in the future and is expected to expand rapidly.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2F02-5.jpg&hash=a5e10a6ba2715b7e8e6e1edb4e9fe53c8482aa68)
Sea defence is very important for this village as the weather conditions can often be very harsh. The sea walls must provide safety for the buildings which are built only just above sea level, as flat land is hard to come by. They are also to protect the ships in harbour.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2F03-3.jpg&hash=fb254fae316f14c4358e50d1944d2d4973888c3c)
The Village is now also becoming the country's first holiday destination, boat trips are popular among visitors and provide a a good day out for those living in the near-by capital city.

Great work guys!

Mightygoose: it's really something new, SAM dirty streets look perfect on your picture, I think they add a lot to it's climate! Also, great photoshopping  &apls

Collgab: Very nice mosaic and impressive terraforming, you created a true 3D canyon!
A little tip about waterfalls: If you use 3wave Freestream mod (as on your picture), try to change temporarily game graphic settings to "Medium", the waterfall will look more soft on your pictures. Jeronij's waterfalls look better at "High" graphic settings.

Mjig_dudy: Great landscapes and beautiful water! The nightshot is very nice too!

Hello everyone, this is my second update woo! This update will be about the growth the city of Riverfall has been through the last couple years on Telau Prime. Most of the old prefabricated homes have been rebuilt into more sturdy structures, and the city is developting very nicely. The current population is around 1500 inhabitants.

Around 5YT have passed since the last update I posted, that is around 10 Earth years. The city of Riverfall is the most established of the 4 towns on Telau Prime. The Emperor of the colony died on 42/23/33, everyone in the colony had loved everything he had done for them so greatly, they decided to name themselves the Atal, after his last name Atalan. After his death his son Halor Atalan took the throne of the great empire, and he is currently in power to this day.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi70.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi100%2Fcollgab%2Fwaterfallcityblueprint.jpg&hash=162ea9d6b70ae60dd02993abcde0bb655c4715aa)

Following his father's dreams, Halor Atalan ordered for plans to be drawn up for a formal capital for the empire. Many drawings were submitted, but one drew his attention, the person who created the sketches of the new capital was named John Nohbdy, he called his creation 'The City of the Falls'. The emperor loved the idea, although he simplified the name to 'Waterfall City'. The capital of the Atal Empire is currently undergoing intense construction, and if everything goes as planned should be finished in 8YT, "It's worth the wait..." explained the emperor.

I love the premise of this MD; very fresh, very exciting. All 3 of you are talented builders, and you all have a tremendous eye for detail, which I believe cannot be taught, hehe.

Overall, the start has been fantastic; great pics, great story, great development.

The Capital City.

The city centre contains many government offices including large parts of the country's civil service. It is connected with several rail routes and a ferry service. These link to the other major cities across Scandinovia.

The suburbs around the city have begun to grow quite rapidly over the past few year as the population begins to grow.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi220.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd44%2FTheQuiltedLlama%2FCity-04.jpg&hash=76ed5918ff5cf35f332013ee14a0d61556595121)
The Parliament building is located near the edge of the city. It was one of the first large buildings to be built by the settlers and remains the tallest building in Scandinovia.

All the city's power is generated from these massive wind turbines, and other ones located on the mountains. However, as the population grows the wind turbines do not generate enough electricity to keep up with demand so the government is looking into other possible energy sources.

Update 2

by 5YT the farming operations on caprica had been setup, in the assemblies rush to get in good economic stead little thought was given to the economy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz124%2Fmightygoose_2007%2FUpdate2a.jpg&hash=9ef226080bc5032b7876e282ca096ef6fc7518b9)

while many homes had been built many still lived in small huts and sheds waiting for the construction teams to make their way round. A swift ban on contraception meant that the state would be strong and grow.

at the north end of the town are the first mines in Caprica, the majority of the colonists if not part of construction teams work here. At this stage stockpiles are being created for possible trade with the other nations.

Hi guys,

Well, I've only just discovered Telau Prime and have to say, hats off to all three of you.  This is a great idea.  And I like the way you are keeping the three nations looking distinct with their own personalities.  It will be interesting to see you keep this up as they develop into larger nations.

Too many great shots to comment on them all, but one stand out for me was mjig's first mosaic of Scandanovia.  Those white boxy houses by Haarlemergold are PERFECT there.  Boxy enough that you can imagine they're pre-fabs used in the early days, whilst nice enough to keep democratic peoples happy, and the solar panels on the roof are a nice touch.

I'll make sure I pop in again.
