Title: Lilith's BAT projects
Post by: Lilith on November 13, 2010, 04:20:38 AM
Hello everyone.

First of all I apologize for my English is not my native language.

Perhaps few people remember me, I did make BATs years ago and I decided to continue to do so to spend my free time in the gray days of winter ... eheheheh

I started making houses when I realized that I would serve the details (props) that I could not find the way I wanted, so I decided first to create a series of packages for my own use and for those who want them.

The news is that I discovered the wonders of Max (I worked with BAT in the past) and the ability to make props for the excellent quality with HD (thanks Simfox).

Everything you see is being tested, nothing is final. Suggestions are welcome.

I hope my work can be appreciated.

These are entrance (or back) that make a heavy bat, so I decided to build them as props. They have custom LODs to interact with other props.

I have more of 30 projects for props, but still do not know how many will become. Most are designed for private gardens, smaller, and larger for other uses.

I also have some problem that still did not understand why, especially when they are in HD. Maybe because they're small?

But those are in HD already...  :-\

@Lilith: Lovely work indeed! :) As for the "stripes" problem, you usually have to lift the flat props a bit in the Lot Editor to make them disappear. I think I also read once that it can be fixed by editing the LODs in gmax a bit and avoid a completely flat prop. Maybe someone else can remember where to find the relevant information about such props.

Post by: Lilith on November 23, 2010, 11:16:14 PM
Thanks, guys.

mightygoose, said Andreas, are already in HD. Except, of course, Sims and lamps, which are there for testing. Today cannot longer make props standart, for obvious loss of quality.

I raised all in Max, including LODs, I think 10cm. But maybe I should lift more than the floor that is up to 6cm. But the round part is raised but did not give the same problem. Do not want to have to lift it in LE.

Do you think that will work well? Texture and lighting? The fountain is not part of them there is a space where to put another prop, flowers, statue, tree, etc..

Coming corner, junction and cross.

These look awesome. I'd love to build parks in my cities consisting of these pathways
Title: Re: Lilith's BAT projects
Post by: Lilith on December 12, 2010, 09:14:24 AM
I also love the parks and nature ... eheheheh

Well, I solved (almost) all problems. Some small defect in conjunctions, but I do not think can be perfect. I also made two types of corner and added some benchs.

I added a lamp post because I have not found in HD and I need. Now I'll make a small bridge, ducks, swans, flamingos and aquatic plants for a pond, to complete it all.

At this point I decided to make a 1x1 build version to make lots to park list.I leave these as props, but some exceed the limit of 1x1 so they may be used only in slightly
larger lot.

Oh, but the lamp post is separated ... is there just to nightling and LODs test. Can they move the way you want.

Thank you, Buzzit...

Does anyone know if I can change night scene after render? Remove the animals so that they appear only during the day, maybe move them? I could work the lights without "disturb" their sleep.... :D :D

Hi Lilith - You are OK to move things between the day and night renders as long as anything you change is within the LOD.

The pond is looking good - I especially like the way you've added various birds.  The water could do with a little work though - it looks a bit solid and painted on at the moment - like it's a flat texture and not a water material.

Thanks for the information, move they yes, but I can remove?

You're right, in fact while looking for a better texture on google I got a virus that made me spend an hour of extreme panic because I had not saved the works of the last two weeks, that is, most of all.

Luckily he has not locked up my system, so I was able, in a hurry among the various windows that opened all the time, to save all and clean the PC.

Ok, back to the water texture which in fact is not optimal. I made some examples and see what you like best, my friends.

Choose one, or nothing, please. Or if anyone has any to give me ... ;)

I prefer the first texture, although maybe it has too much reflection.  When I think of ponds like these I think of bird refuse and pond scum, but maybe that's just me.

As far as the with birds/no birds:  Totally possible.  You just need to export two models, one with birds and the other without.  The timing would be done in the Prop Exemplar.

Hi Lilith

Within the LOD you can do whatever you want, so yes you can remove the birds at night.

For me water 3 looks most like water for a pond the size of yours.  1 looks more like lake water and 4 like sea.  5 looks like it's only really OK for a sunset picture.

You know, it's a little pond "urban", my parks are always very clean ... maybe in the country are more "neglected" ... :D :D

I have not done the course of MODding, then manipulating advanced properties is still not possible for me... ;D

thanks for participating.

Today I worked the bridge, I think it came a nice job, I find it quite "elegant ".

Perhaps it is better to see the texture better when there will be everywhere, animals, rocks and plants. If I succeed, I would like to manipulate the image to see if I can establish the wakes left by the passage of animals on the water.

Ok, I run out of RAM to render this.

I reached the limit with the lotus flowers, now the amount of geometry is exaggerated.

Maybe I'll have to separate some things if it will be too heavy, I'll see ...

I hope that the result is pleasing.

Suggestions?

Like textures no 3. Could use a little more waves in it.

If you are using MAX you can add some noice.

Do you mean the flowers themselves, or the pads as well?  I notice you have used the same pattern of pads in most places, especially the four that are the same.  Perhaps if you took some of the pads out of each one it would look more random, and also help your render issue as well (although maybe make it worse?  I am not skilled in Batting).

Thanks, but I could not translate "pad ". What is it? I removed the flowers of the lotus, both are so small that you can hardly see and I do not miss it.

Guys, thanks. In fact I still learn a lot, because I am only able to BATting, but texture, sounds, modding and advanced properties I know very little. But I want to learn or "specialize" in just Batting.

In the meantime, I created another piece to the walls.

This set of parks aisles looks very nice  &apls

Concerning the bat, you have strange things with garden lamps (they are in SD and the lighting is quite special, you need maybe a volumetric lighting and did you try the glare option under 3DSmax, it could be nice in some situations  ;))

The garden lamps is only a test version, not final. I'm not good with the lights, I have yet to see this.

I stepped forward with links by Vester (thank you again).

The texture of the canals of SG is fantastic and I have learned to add reflections I was really excited and happy. Unfortunately, I still find it very "plain", I tried to add waves with Max Bump but I have not found a good result.

It is not easy to find all these effects and the correct setting ... but I'll get.

On a side note, there is a NAM plug-in that makes the canals into a traffic network: CAN-AM (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7662.0)

I had forgotten for a moment, but there are other things I can do. Perhaps an integration with the plopable's water by Jeronij.

QuoteI send you Isabella, hope you have already a recent 3dsmax.

Yes, thank you very much.

Now, I have a little problem with the PC. Despite having cleared the virus, some little strange things happen.

Unfortunately, because of Christmas, the technician is not available for the next few days.

I would say that I need to format ...

I will go with some minor works, doing back up constantly.

Hi Isabella , :)

Having had a first look at your work , I thought immediately about the lack of feminine sensibility & touch in the SC4 world , « A bit of tenderness in a world of brutes »  :D

I like very much the pond with ducks & swans . I don't remember to have already seen something like that ...  ... that said , here's my little suggestion to make this pond looking less symmetric , less overloaded , more natural ( I.M.O.) : ::)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg710.imageshack.us%2Fimg710%2F7125%2Fpondc.jpg&hash=b0f571669b68f0d1d3f8126df3ae27c73d01c24c)

Cal's water texture  would be perfect  with a more green-brown shade . A small fountain prop (effect) would fit nicely on the rocks .

That's also bringing me in mind how it would be great to have ducks & swans as separate props even if they should surely have to be overscaled ... $%#Ninj2

Interesting to follow your trials & progresses , nevertheless . Great work !

But now, especialls the ducks and swans  &apls, great!  This is a level of detail I've never seen before.

I just have to reinstall all programs and SC4 ...

You're right, maybe I can take some things, but the swans in love NO! $%Grinno$%

I'll add some tests to see fountain effects, certainly.

Overscaled? You think they are too small? I tested in game and appear to the right size.

overscaled = too large - but then again, the sims are overscaled, too. ;)

I can only join the compliments, that pond looks lovely! I agree with Cédric about a more non-symmetric look, but the overall appearance is really something fresh - and something that shows the capabilities of HD rendering best. :)

It was a little overscaled, more than anything else I wanted the duck to be more visible, but already adjusted

No more animals, for now... :D

Thank you all for comments.

I finished another pack of props, the modular paths with planters, statues, bridge and pond combined. I followed the suggestion of Badsim, less symmetric.

I could not use the water material of callagrafx, sorry.

They have custom LODs, other props can be placed above. In the pond can be added a fountain effect. I tried to put the lights, but I have not had a good result.

I knew you'd created beautiful things, Cédric, but the texture of water is not the best.

I stopped because I have to solve a problem with the pond, the shadows do not appear correctly. Also, I'm studying all part of modding of SC4PIM, and translating the guide for Italian.

Cedric, do you have to just change the set-up to IsGroundModel = True?

Because do not work for me. Nothing, rien...no shadows.

Do You have a picture to show me , please?
Title: Re: Lilith's BAT projects

It does work fine for me :

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg4.imageshack.us%2Fimg4%2F4438%2Fforlilith001.jpg&hash=7a28afdb41dead2ee42e3a6e732d553b0a905104)

To change False for True , you need to enter 0x01 ( with «Values as text » )

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg405.imageshack.us%2Fimg405%2F1285%2Fforlilith002.jpg&hash=8a0ca4755962a86e6218b1d96169a01e03014d86)

Once you've corrected them all , don't forget to « Reindex LotConfig » before to save .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F9996%2Fforlilith003.jpg&hash=fbbab6a2ab96f3eaa6c43551deeca956263122a6)

You don't have to ReIndex the LotConfig if you edit the prop exemplar file - this is only necessary if you added or removed a LotConfig property (prop or texture) from the lot exemplar file. :)

I was frustrated with the result of the pond shown above, the appearance of concrete was not provided and so I decided to do a quick course in Photoshop, SC4PIM
and 3ds effects.

I want to know what texture you like. Suggestions are welcome.

I like six the best. It's more natural to me because the bottom of the pool is partically obscured due to natural elements. Such as debris, dust from the wind, leaves decaying at the bottom, ducks swimming about loosening that stuff up. If I want to see my feet in the ocean I'll go to the Caribbean - but otherwise I think that natural reflections from the sun on a bright day and natural things on top of those stones will partially obscure what lies beneath the waters surface.

<edit> Irregardless of what I think about water - the criteria should be which one looks the best in the game in the park setting you wish to make.

After 10 years, a change of country, the end of a marriage and a new profession, I'm back (but just to see).

I am sorry to have abandoned my projects, the game and to have lost the contacts I had made in this world.

It pains me very much to hear of BarbiW's passing. He was a great person who contributed enormously to this community. Very sad.

I also see that many are still here, carrying on the legacy of so many people who have devoted hours and hours of their lives to making this spectacular game more enjoyable.

I have not forgotten any of you, you are always in my heart.

Take care.

Yes, the level has really risen a lot. The level of excellence is really visible and makes me happy.

Sometimes I want to go back but I have little free time and I think I have fallen far behind.

Maybe one day ... also because I have dozens and dozens of unfinished pieces.
