Hey Jmyers!!!  Glad to see you around...  I just did some lotting of your first 4 volumes of small shops. I love them...  If you want to see some pictures of them they are in my thread in the NHP forum.

I cant wait for more models from you to play around with.

JMyers Farms Vol 02 is now on the LEX.

These are the same files that were released as part of the BSC Expansion Package in the spring of 2005. This post is accurate as of March 08, 2007. The dependency links below are all necessary to make these farms function properly but not necessarily the entire BSC expansion pack. Additional downloads are required to make other farms and fields by BarbyW, Vlakhaas, and SimGoober display and work properly. You'll need to consult those readme files when you download their creations.

hello zniehadajet

The only thing upgraded with the above JMyers Farms vol 01 & 02 are the readme files. All the links are accurate as of this date.

Upgrade you say? I am working on an upgrade and here are a couple of snaps. It is a huge undertaking ... and I hope the wait will be worth it for you and everyone else.

All of my old farms are getting another look. I'm modeling tractors, wagons, and people inside the open doors of the barn buildings (a thing that was beyond my abilities two years ago) Some will be set at a 45 degree angle on their lots ... for variety.

wow those are very... i cant think of an adjective. nice would be an understatement.  a lot of things are new for me. i've just started "seriously" playing the game early this year. yep, you read it right. this year. LOL. back when the game and RH were released, ive hit roadblocks almost every game month and it discouraged me. back in January 2007 or maybe even just last month, I just wanted to "govern" all of a sudden. luckily, i found sc4 and rh and fired it up from there. since then, ive been trying to "perfect" my plugins folder. i want farms, like in my RL country, to be the backbone of my region/s. and your re-releases and updates are most welcome. so thanks for your work.  &apls

JMyers Does Commercial Offices.

Here are a couple of pictures of what I've been working on lately.  My target is the 9 story commercial office known as Ben Tower.

These buildings offer CO$$$ jobs in the range of 52 through 62. They will grow on stage 5 and 6 lots. The pictures below show four buildings but one is a 6 story test structure.

My plans are to release four buildings. There are a couple of lotting issues that I spotted when they grew in my game.  These four grew in a clump and I plopped a couple of 'parking lots' in between for presentation purposes.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FCO01.jpg&hash=f8a6619d3aa84a55a03acaa05c42aeceee24a967)

EDIT: The answer to everyones question is yes. A stage 6 1X1 lot will be included. Maxis lotted the stage 6 Ben Tower on a 1X1 and a 1X2. They lotted the stage 5 grower on 1X2. I've done the same. With an exception that I will also place it on a 1X3 stage 5. Each building will be placed on four lots. Two stage 5 and 2 at stage 6.

I hope that you will enjoy them. Thanks.

Finally, something to compete with Ben Tower. I have nothing wrong with that building per se, but the way it floods my commercial areas is rather annoying...

Please be advised that I made a typing error when modding the GL Forge building.  ::)  The bulldoze cost was set to $90,000 and it has now been set to $90. These factories are still RUSH HOUR versions but will work with the CAM. I am planning on making CAMpatible versions before weeks end.

You should probably download and update if you are still using RUSH HOUR and do not want to pay $90,000 to demolish GL Forge.

There is a small Text Readme file which tells you what to do. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have a few things I've been working on. This one is called Green Meadows. A hay farm that features fields with random bales of hay. There is a slope friendly version that grows on moderate slopes. A flat version features a pole barn that is either full or nearly empty depending on the time of the year. It grows as a stage two which means that it is Rush Hour and CAMpatible.

The lot is now is in beta and should be on the LEX in a couple of weeks.

Me too. The overlay textures are perfect; it's great to see how they connect with the garage and weave between the wooden streetlight and the haystacks. Now if the farmer had put them on the other side, he wouldn't have to drive such a curve, but it looks awesome. On the third pic, it looks like some overlays in the cow pen don't line up properly; I guess this is because the game always has troubles to display stacked overlays correctly. Other than that, excellent work! :)

I tried three times to make a post in the South African BSC forums but the site was having issues. So I'll make the post here.

The three hydroponic greenhouses at the bottom of this post were done January. Their release was delayed for two reasons.

First I wanted to publish a fourth design. I recently got an idea and the building below was born. It is called Sunrise Hydroponics. I've been struggling getting the lights and the transparency of the glass correct. This is pretty close to the other greenhouses further down. The darn thing takes 1 ½ hours to render. This is because of the foliage in the hydroponic beds. This one is the largest of the four. The building offers 37 jobs at 75% fill. . . when the lot tiles are added the jobs offered will be in the range of 75 plus or minus which makes it a stage 3. Anyone see anything needing more work???

Sunrise Hydroponics. The fourth and last desing which I am still tinkering with.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fhydro1.jpg&hash=7cdf85f5b24077605335b1e039bc0e58ec18b6f5)

The second reason for the delay is because I wanted to make these farm buildings slope friendly and it took a while for me to master (if you want to call it that) foundations that looked interesting. The pictures below show how the foundations have come out. All have a mossy cement block foundation. The moss appears about 3 meters below ground level. The foundation is only 7 meters deep and that will determine the minimum slope which the lot grows.

Chemiculture. I suppose because of the chemicals/nutrients used in hydroponic farming.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fhydro2.jpg&hash=d206e37a9cd11e2b87176b8c9c511f853d0ccb50)

Microgreen. No particular reason for the name. Other than is sounds earth friendly.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fhydro3.jpg&hash=b2b903d5d27fb224854deb3a21cffc78533d9c45)

Euro-Fresh. I suppose because it is my impression that Eruopeans eat healthier than I do.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Fhydro4.jpg&hash=509d24f6019ea0e83b689106adc86c8879f1b208)

nice!

I like the metal beams on the chemculture one in particular, with the circular holes. because of the "fun" design of these, maybe there is more than just farm use for players. Like some sort of strange experimentation facility that involves plant-like aliens. Lol, just messing around :D

The greenhouses look excellent.  Zaphod is right about them lending themselves to other uses.  With them being metal and glass and of strong geometric design I can see them being very popular in science fiction themed MD/CJs.

I must admit that I don't really like such high-tech farms, and from an engineering point of view, I doubt that you're able to use such large glass (or plexiglass) panes without structural support. The third pic looks most realistic of those, because using triangles for a dome structure is a common practise. Anyway, it certainly has a "looking cool" effect, and I'd say those would be some great models for the SimMars team. :) If you want to get the glass transparency (black glass) issue fixed, just provide me with the models.

Post by: jmyers2043 on October 18, 2007, 04:43:56 PM
I think that the Z brothers (Zaphod and Zero) articulated what I felt deep inside but could not put my finger on.

The plan of action will be ...

1. Euro Fresh (once I get more window support frames in place) and Microgreen will be the only high tech stage three farms released.
2. I'll re-skin the other two and try to make them look like Hi-Tech Industry ... oh ... such as  ... biochemical or something like that.
3. Andreas! I am going to take you up on your offer.

Thanks for the feedback.

These are stunning!     I especially like Sunrise Hydroponics.

I think the idea for an IHT version is excellent.  It would provide some much-needed variety in that category.

Would you consider making lots for a CAM version as well?  I think these would make excellent stage 5 farms - and I think there has only been a handful of stage 5 farms released to date.

I've loved all of your releases.  Your farms and small shops are staples in my cities.  Thanks for all the great contributions.

These are the type of farms that stage 5 was intended for!

Even if the occupancy wouldn't come up to the levels required for stage 5 by the "X" Tool, it wouldn't be too diffficult to get it up to a stage 4 level (90 jobs instead of 75), and then add the allowed extra stage to make them stage 5.

I also think all four of them should be stage 5, regardless of their occupancy...
Since farms won't upgrade, their occupancy vs. stage isn't that important, just guidelines! :)

These look awesome JMyers!  I loved your older lots, and these are an improvement in realism!  I can't say that I've ever seen the high-tech looking farms, but I think they certainly would fit in quite well with Peg's recent skyfarm lots.

That barn in the OLeary lot is just exquisite!

According to your description your latest Farms are CAM but not for Rush Hour.So how do play SC without Rush Hour?.Thanx

Hello BlueBeard - I've changed the description on the download page so that it is clearer. The farms are stage 5. Rush Hour and Deluxe do not recognize stage 5 farming. The lots will only grow if you have the CAM.

You can change the farms to grow at stage 3 if you don't have the CAM and if you are somewhat adept at modding. In that event they will grow fine.

Alrighty - I'm taking a short break from farms and am doing some small dirty industrials.

1X1 lot with 15 or so jobs. Grows as a stage 2. There are three shack variations. I have no name for this one yet. Perhaps someone has more imagination that I do and will make a suggetsion?

1X2 lot with 37 jobs. Grows as a stage 4. This one I think will be called 'Liquiform Inc.'

Excellent work on those industrials! &apls Always great to see a new industrial creation.  ;D

I've been having a problem installing your recent dairy farms.  It downloads and unzips fine, but I try to install it and nothing installs.  No files, just nothing.  Looking in the comments, no one has mentioned this, so it might be my computer.  Thanks for the reply.

- Kyle

EDIT: Hmm, I think I may have found out how the lots are installed.  Do the files get morphed with the DAT files "JFMFarmsVol01 and 02?" Correct me if I'm wrong.
Title: Re: JMyers Rural Retreat and Small Shops
Post by: jmyers2043 on December 05, 2007, 03:06:02 AM
Hello ky72x

It sounds like you are trying to install them to a different folder during the process. That works fine if there is only one building or lot that deploys to a single folder. But there are three farms that extract to three different folders. Each one going to a specific appropriately named folder. That over rides your attempt to deploy them elsewhere. Look in Plugins\BSC\farms\Jmyers. You should see them there. You can move or delete as you see fit.

The farms that are called Vol01 and 02 are my first farms packages from two years ago. They are not the dairy series.

Good Luck  :)

Three new water tower types for your rural regions and small towns. The Pedesphere, the Torospherical, and that icon of water towers, the Riveted Metal Tank. These are about the same size (give or take a few meters) as the Maxis water tower .  The Maxis water tower holds 2.400 gallons of water. The Pedesphere (upper left) tower holds holds 4,700 - the Torosphere (upper right) holds 6,000 - and the (lower) Riveted Metal tanks hold 1,900 gallons of water.

These Water Towers are in the hands of the scrutineers today and could be in one of your cities in two to three weeks.

just an item of curiousity.. I think these are your lots if I read the doc's correctly.. I had arid industries and checked my plugins.. I find arids extraction and arids industries.. have you by chance run these through XTool to see what level they would be on CAM?.. seem to have an awful lot of workers.. I think it grew on a low-density lot with about 5000 workers.. I'm not complaining, just curious.. I'm not even sure where I downloaded em.. Thx

Title: Re: JMyers Rural Retreat and Small Shops
Post by: jmyers2043 on January 13, 2008, 06:38:33 PM
Hi Fledgeling

No difference. The Hay farms grow as a stage 2 and the Dairy farms grow at stage 3. The farms will grow in either version of the game.  The Hay farm has the same chance to grow as your other stage 2 farms ... and the dairy farms have the same chance to grow as your other stage 3 farms.

One thing to note about the CAM compared to Rush Hour. When you start a new region in Rush Hour you will have a number of stage 1 farms that grow. You will get a few stage 2 farms as your city progresses. Then you will get to a point where the game will choose to grow a stage 3 farm 70% of the time at the expense of the first two. I used to compensate by loading up my plugins with a lot of stage 3 farms for variety. The CAM made an adjustment and the farm stages grow more equally. And that is good as there is now more variety through all phases of your game play.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

And you commented on the farm in my Custom Lot thread and now I've only just realised it was your farm barn building...... 'doh.

So a BIG thanks for those farms, they grow loads in my more rural tiles and I think they're all awesome.

I'll check in here more often now!

These two dirty industrials are now in the hands of the BSC Scrutineering team. They grow at stages 2 and 3. There is also a CAM version that grows at stage 4. They are primarily early growers. And grow at or about the same time as the Maxis MPR Metals.

Coming to a city in your region in two to three weeks.

Acme Castings is my next industrial. The pictures below are just a beta lot that grew as a stage 3 Rush Hour. A Rush Hour version will either sit on a 4X4 or 5X4 lot. There are a couple of small imperfections of the pictured lot. And the delivery truck may stay, go, or be downsized a bit. The building should be in the hands of the BSC scrutineering team before the weekend is out.

Two CAM versions will grow as stage 5 and 6.

That's really top-notch work. The textures are really great and it fits its lot well. I have only one tiny, tiny little commnent. If you you look at the corner towers, on the front two they're solid right to the top, but the two on the back of the building are open on the very top section. It looks odd to see the roofline going down through them!

Hey SC4Boy

I thought about that. Both uploads use that same prop. Including the prop with the Bender Building would make  Bender an external dependency for the Refrigatory. Those who only want the Refrigatory will have to download an unwanted Bender building if they also want the delivery truck prop.

It is the same prop and it is a small file. So - I thought the best way was to include it inside both uploads. It deploys to the same location. So the second install will overwrite the first and there should be no duplicates. The only got-cha is if the user moves files around to suit their own folder system. Then one could have a duplicate and that is a scenario that I didn't consider at the time.

Thanks for the positive feed back. It is appreciated. I do try to keep things as simple as I can but sometimes ...  &mmm

Here are some in game snaps of my recent bat efforts. Some three story commercial offices. They are designed to grow at or about the same time as the Maxis Bennet Music. Bennet was growing a lot in my cities. (by the way - Bennet Music is the maxis building in the lower right corner of that first picture)

I now have variety and your cities will too!

Hello Orion

That is my fault. There is supposed to be a field base texture. That texture was originally in the 'farms resource pack' but I locked the farms resource pack when I made a Props Mega Pack. Those two textures, not being a prop, are not included in the mega pack - so - I'll have to update the Hydoponic CAMelots file. I'll do that later today.

But in the mean time you can download the fix for your lot here. Place it in MyDocs\SimCity 4\BSC\BSC Textures\

I am a huge fan of your lots - they work so well with all the Maxis buildings and the custom stuff posted here.  Your small shops in particular are the type of stuff I aspire to make when I sit down to BAT - they're great.  (If I had an entire city with CS and CO jmyers lots in the commercial districts, I'd be a happy mayor!)

Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with!

Uploaded to the SC4Devotion LEX this morning. These farms are located http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2003 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2003)

Coming soon to a region near you. New farms by JMyers

Hello to everyone and welcome to 2009. I was playing the game for fun for most last fall. After several months of not batting I got the bug again - and - well - agriculture seems to be my favorite subject. While playing the game I was thinking that I'd like to see some farms based on SimGoobers corn field crops. I shipped the farms pictured below off to the BSC scrutinizers this morning. I should, assuming there are no glaring problems, be able to upload them within a couple weeks.  They all have custom foundations which makes them slope friendly for those of us who like to play on the hills and dales.

J Buck Carlson Lives here. A stage 2 crib barn.

Earl "Billy Bob" Carter's farm. Earl boasts to everyone about having the largest corn crib in the region.

More farms undergoing some scrutiny. These are based on the SimGoober Tobacco crop. All grow at stage 2 and offer 22 to 27 jobs. All but one have custom foundations so they'll grow on moderate slopes without that ugly Maxis LOD foundation box thing...

Very nice work on these farms. The lots look very good, and the structures are splendid as well. I like the barn raising lot. It's not something you see everyday (at least in the gane). I also like the Winchester farm. With the name on the barn, do I detect a M*A*S*H reference? Very nice work on these.

The barn raising is a great touch.  And the details are stunning.

The barn with the Mail Pouch advertisement made me whistful for my childhood - where I grew up, I remember there was a barn in the area that had that very ad painted on the side of it.

Great BATs and lots, as always...

jmeyers, Jack wilds here...

I've always enjoyed your work, particularly the agricultural volume series... there is alot of Wisconsin in the dairy, beef and crop farms.  Now with a new volume to look for and the tobacco barns to the rural variety just is getting better
... it will get to the place that every city will have its own unique looks with little duplication of bats.  So then with all the teasing from the photo gallery is there any news from the cracker barrel, farmer Henry needs a new barn?  ;D

Hello Jmeyers, Jack wilds here...

Looking over the teaser photos once again liking what I see when I noticed  &mmm something about the Amish barn raising.  Is that shingling crew working correctly? it seems to that the lower courses should be further along versus the upper courses or is there a new way to get this done  ??? ... seems to me that someone on the crew is headed for a talking to in the corn crib.

At any rate, hope this doesn't upset the 'apple' basket.  Looking forward to more rural excitement.

Pat – Always encouraging. Thanks.

Kendra – Ouch! That bug just bit me again. Thank you so much.

TTC Derry – May your new region be filled with Tobacco and Corn. Thanks for the comment.

Metasmurf – I agree with the thumbs up. Much better than that ugly Maxis foundation. A couple of things about Slope friendliness. It is better to keep the building simple. A large door in the front or rear. A foundation can get very complex if I start to have a bunch of side entrances. As a result, there are fewer modeling details. That means I have to concentrate on textures.

Geronimo – Thank you for taking time to comment. I appreciate both accolades and constructive criticism. Both make for better game assets and enjoyable evenings. On second thought, accolades are better.   :D

Gaston – Good Idea. Rock city will probably be in some future set.

GirlfromVerona – to my favorite journal person. Thank you so much. May your corn grow tall and your tobacco grow ... well ... hmmmm ... darn.   &mmm  I can't think of anything witty to say about your future tobacco crops.

Threestooges – Not a Mash reference. Actually a reference to gator wrestling.

MadHatter  and Battlecat. – Thanks for the compliment. Regarding bats and lots? I try.

Bighead – I got your PM photos. Thanks. I am collecting wheat crop ideas.   &Thk/(

Hey Jack – Funny you should say. Marczar said something similar in the private BSC threads.  The answer is that I could have been more 'building code' friendly – but I hope the way I did it has more visual interest. Sometimes for me, reality gives way to artistic license.

Hey Jmeyers, Jack wilds here...

Artistic license,  ??? ok I'll be creative in this inspection if I can have a load of corn to 'feed' the deer with and it'll slide (as long as you don't the county Ag-Dept)  :D

I was surprised to find the new farms on the LEX today  -Thanks, it made my day.  Have a question though...
now that I am getting a real rural variety happening how can I suppress the maxis' lame farms?  &mmm

I understand the desire for creative-artistic license vs modeling RL as I am an engineer with artistic-musically inclined ways -go figure...  ::)

Hey Jack

This is the only one that I know of. Back in 2004 by GranmpaAl. It doesn't 'supress' per se - it gets rid of them entirely. I use the below mod when testing my own farms and it does get rid of them period.

Called Prevent IR lots...

http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=341 (http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=341)

I actually use the Maxis lots in my game. Although, I've altered them a bit. If you wish to supress? You may try to change the growth stage of the more pesky ones, lot them so that they only grow on a corner, or change the slope so that the farms grow on a narrow range of slope settings.

Originally batted for the Bordertown challenge. This power plant is now in the hands of the BSC scrutinizing team. It will be an alternative to the Maxis Natural Gas Plant and has similar stats. I should be able to upload it to the SC4D LEX in two to three weeks with any luck.

Hey Jmeyers, Jack wilds here...

I like the new power plant, there is a lot of detail in it, I hope it translates into the game OK .  I see components in this power plant that could be used to make an ethanol plant -any thoughts? (also, maybe this could an award for x-number of corn fields in the city)

Still enjoying the latest farm pack its neat to see them show up in my 'countrified' cities.  I was thinking on these farms when a note of nostalgia came over me.

Here in Wisconsin the rural landscape is littered with forgotten landmarks and 'tell-tale-signs' of yesteryear dotting the lands.  So I'm requesting that perhaps in the spirit of your farms (textures, colors, style, lot-ting) to make a couple of packs of country churches, cemeteries, town halls, grange halls (a reward to go with your crop farms), and one-two-three-four room school-houses... thanks for listening its not as though there aren't other projects on your plate, huh...  ::)  Happy Easter  :sunny:

Haven't heard from you by the local cracker barrel in a while, Jackson (my black lab) is whining to know
-whats up! (there aawt to be a 'whats-up' emoticon to put here)

I was just looking at your latest tobacco and corn farms. I made sure that I had all of the dependencies. That list seems to be missing a file needed to see the houses on these lots. All of the other props show up. I'm just missing the house props.

I did a dependency check with PIM-X with all of the prop files that I have ever downloaded and found that 1 prop (the house) was missing on each lot.

I'm not sure if this is the thread to ask about this.

I found the missing houses. I was looking at your files without letting any of the tools see bldgprop_vol1 and bldgprop_vol2. Those weren't listed as dependencies for your farms.

Quotebldgprop_vol1 and bldgprop_vol2.

Hello JMelvin

About once or twice a year I get asked that question. The answer is that many of us who have been with SimCity 4 since it was released, and were around when the Lot Editor was released by Maxis, and then the BAT tool have a tendency to assume that most/all  players have the Maxis buidlings as props_VOL1, and VOL2 already in their plugins. So they are not specifically listed as a dependency.

I've been making many bats that are yet to be released. I'll not make that assumption again and include those links as dependencies in the future.

Best Regard, Jim Myers

I was asked in a PM how I do my foundations. I thought a good way to answer was to make this short turorial because the answer required a number of pictures.

QuoteHi, I've recently download your last farms ... I would like to make my own slope conforming fondations ... Can you explain me the method that you use ?

Example I'll use is the Red Man Tobacco barn. One meter of the barn foundation is above the X axis and will be seen when the farm grows on flat land. It is a part of the barn model. Everything below the x axis is the foundation and is a seperate foundation model. It will be seen only if the barn grows on a slope. In this case the foundation extends 10 meters below grade.  I placed this barn on a 4X4 lot. My rule of thumb is to set the maximum slope 1 meter greater than the longest dimension of the lot. In this case, the maximum slope this barn will grow on is 5 meters. A 2X3 lot would be set to grow on slopes no greater than 4 meters. This means that at best, and if the barn grows on terrain where there is a 5 meter dip, that only half of the foundation will show up

Barn and Foundation together in gmax view.

I usually put the major foundation elements, like ramps and foundation walls, into their respective groups.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_02.jpg&hash=d455ec1bbaeedc36abf0261bc173199ee8bb184e)

I recall the Main foundation and click to reset the LOD. This makes LOD3, LOD4, and LOD5. Delete LOD 4 and 5 and save main foundation wall with the LOD.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_03.jpg&hash=cc184247466af0795173d6ed44c1b2f662369f26)

Next step is to merge the two ramps and create another set of LODS.  Again deleting LOD4 and 5.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_04.jpg&hash=5c969a008da265cdfe60e6ad2ece247feaf9b863)

Select Attach List from the Geometry Rollout menu. Then make the appropriate selection from the attach list. This combines two separate elements into a single LOD3. Save as XXX
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_08.jpg&hash=8bc783c48a1d24c4d3b4165d46121fccada47c75)

Start a new project. Merge the foundation and the two ramps. Then create a box that will sit on top of the foundation. This is to cast the proper shadows onto the foundation. Don't worry. The box is outside the foundation LOD and will not show up in the game. Because it is outside the LOD it will hide underneath the barn and there will be no graphic glitches.

Finally Merge the LOD 3 that you created. Select it and clone as LOD4 and LOD5. Presto – You're ready to render the foundation.

There are probably other methods but that is the method I use.

Foundation Part 2

This is a Kiln Barn. It might be called a Hop barn in the states or an Oast in Europe.  I have some Ivy growing up the side and also have the Ivy as part of the foundation model. A picture of an Oast in England is the inspiration for this barn.

Question is when rendering – do I have to have select 'foundation'? The answer is .. good practice. But I know from past experience that I've forgotten and it has not affected the foundation at all.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_11.jpg&hash=825b63b6054d02c9f46ae23ed5f2582f981eaba4)

The foundation and the Oast are rendered. Time to fire up the Maxis PIM. Select the foundation model. Drag it and make the foundation. Click OK. Nothing else is needed.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_12.jpg&hash=dfbdd81ebffbbd44066372f95c213854185d5425)

Select your barn and create an I-Agriculture building. Click on the 'advanced' tab and scroll down the list of foundations and select the appropriate one. Click OK. The foundation is now a part of the farm building and you'll not see that ugly Maxis brown square on your lots anymore.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_13.jpg&hash=9ee2d46d1c03a01f4a87b2de114d40f21aad1def)

What I do next is to make a bare bones lot that grows as stage 1. Open the game with an empty plugin folder. BUT - Make sure that Grandpa Al's Maxis farm blocker is in your plugins. What am I doing? I want to insure that the farm I just imported into the game is the only one that grows. It makes quality control easier and I can see it from different sides on different slopes, etc. I have test cities that are flat and hilly.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_14.jpg&hash=61f4df27b71fc23c8fce2856eee41aea44c17819)

Looks ok to me  :)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FFoundtion_15.jpg&hash=a313c0b9480a2bb5c78512c7a35709b0c6053abe)

Once I'm happy I'll mod the farm building for proper jobs, water consumption, power, etc. I'll make the 'real' lot
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FSmall_Oast_01.jpg&hash=f51147923b6ab9635b4e1a2304eb0485788aee8e)

I've been doing some farms recently. I started the project the 2nd week in August. I only have three lots done. I know, sad  :D. But there's a lot of new stuff. And I now have three beta lots to show off. There's a fourth one in the works. The barn is done but I need to do a couple more outbuildings that match the barns theme.

Here is Abram McNeil's Farm

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2FBub_05.jpg&hash=73b5146dce4dc97b42d77dce729cc2a7a5b35837)

the Enoch Whitton farm

and Bubba Washington's farm
<Beta Rev 2  >
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi148.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs26%2Fjmyers2043%2Frevised01.jpg&hash=d4402bc26452adf5c1147918735d2cbd875515be)

<edit> I didn't realize I had the 'kite boy' on two of these farms. I'll find something else to take the spot.

They are all stage 3 farms with around 45 to 48 workers. The lot sizes are 5X6 +/- The farms have custom foundations so you'll not get that ugly Maxis brown foundation if you grow them on uneven terrain. A lot of custom content. Barns, smokehouses, chicken coops, tool sheds, double cribs, and Bubba's metal tractor shed. They all support the SimGoober corn crop.

<edit 2>
This is Dell Budden's farm. A 5X5 lot stage 3 with around 35 to 40 sims (forget how many).

Really good job in a field  :D where lot of progress could be done.

Lotting is nice, I think you will add small details after like chickens ^^ (Vnaoned did amazing chickens which will be released in the VIP Rural Pack :))

As Vester said, the only thing which came to my mind is a disharmony between the scales. We (Cédric above all) faced to this problem with all the props of the guinea fowls and uses Cogeo's tool for harmonising all the stuff. But I assume that in your case, you use different packs as dependencies and in this sense can't rework on them.

Is there smaller barns in this packs?

Anyway, keep going on this way  :)

I'm glad to see you're building more farms Jim.

They look really good, just maybe rotate the clothes line 90 degrees in one of the farms. Bubba sure has a long way to walk to get wood during the winter, sure hope he dresses warm. :)

You don't like kite boy?  Look at him, he's warn a spot in the lawn!  :D

I feel the area around the barns is too clean.  Maybe place some small weeds in key spots along the edge.

I also like the WIP props, can't wait to see another angle of that guy changing the tire on the trailer.

The scale doesn't seem off to me.  Those tractors need to get in the barn with space for repair, and then also the size of the combine, or the height of the plow blades when they are folded up.  There are also people for scale there, which appear to be 2 meters tall, and I believe a doorway twice as tall as me.

I'm open to suggestions. Like digging fence post holes ... etc . . . Re: weeds against the building. I have a foible. And that is props that look the same from all four directions and never appear to be in the shade ( as in ) up against the side of the wall. Now give me a set of props shadowed from two directions (weeds, vines, stones, scrub brush) and I'm all in.

Hey there Jmeyers

I am really pleased that your back; creating some more farmland Americana. its just so refreshing, nostalgic but I don't miss all the chores I had to do  :D... as for 'chores snapshots' would be surrounding hay making -my cousin on deck, I'm driving ()stsfd() and then milking our 'breakfast' cow -Jersey Mae, outside the kitchen porch door...

a small side story: is that a "medical group" based in Washington DC nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine {read medical lobbyists [front for vegans, animal rights groups $%#Ninj2]} is posting a billboard [its on I-hwy-41 near Lambeau Field] using a grim reaper wearing a cheesehead-hat [copyright infringement, they have since removed the hat] stating the evils of dairy and cheese... and get this, 'wonderful people who seem to want to mean well' are all from the east coast -DC,... there are doing this, to bring to everyone's attention that over one-third of Wisconsinites are over weight/ obese all due to too much cheese...  ???... Americans consuming dairy for a long time before these do-gooders came on the scene, [also Europeans consume more cheese than here, are they protesting dairy over there?]

I just don't understand the 'right' they think the have to tell us how to live... if it weren't for the 'backward' country folk they would starve [big city DC- NYC type folk]  Boy, I'm on a soap box or what  :satisfied:... you know what I think is, that they're riding on the Packers wave to get 'their message' out...

If this soapbox is out of order for your thread its ok to move it... so how about those Packers, huh?

Nope, not sad at all.  In fact, given the fact that the last post here (until your update) was sometime in 2009, quite the opposite - happy happy happy!

The farms look great.  Beautifully textured as always.  And the little guy changing the tire is a fantastic detail.  Have you ever done a prop of a guy milking a cow?

No. But the two dual cribs could be a small growable farm building set it on a 2X2 stage 1 farm lot.   :-\   I used the Google translate tool. English barn = Polish stodoła. I did find some inspiration for some stage 1 or 2 European themed farms.

Hadn't thought of it. Not sure how it would work on the larger farms ... but a small homestead with a small corral of two or three cows? That might work. Thanks for the idea.

&Thk/(   My minds eye sees a farmer doing some simple chores. Shoveling something, digging a hole, building a fence, off loading sacks from a wagon, fixing other farm stuff, carry some posts, or pushing bales of hay around.

I agree with Lowkee. I think the barn scale is perfect. They're rather large in RL in comparison to houses. As for props, you could do a farmer fixing a combine or tractor. They're constantly tinkering with things. Fixing fences, mending chicken coops. Fixing pickup trucks. Pouring/augering grain from a silo!

Great work here, inspiring, and can't wait to see how this develops. Going off to start a new agricultural project myself!

I submitted the four farms in this post and the four farms in the above post to the LEX scrutineers this evening.

A total of eight new farm buidlings with foundations so they are slope friendly. Plus a Mega Pack of 18 or 20 outbuildings. There are small tool sheds, chicken coops, medium sized outbuildings, smoke houses, plus a number of work in progress props. Many of the small props will have a shaded side so it can be set against a building and look like it's in the shadow of a larger structure.

Yippee, houses! For all the thousands of custom BATs, I still think there are way too few custom single family homes around (relatively speaking, versus the number of skyscrapers for instance) - and among those that exist, I find many that don't fit in well with the Maxis houses. So, I can definitely appreciate your efforts to correct that - in your picture I'm actually wondering which was the Maxis stuff again, so they sure blend in well. :)

Cheers,
Willy

Scott, Matt, Jack, Willy - Thank you for the kind comments. I've got them growing in earnest. Taking notes as I go. Move this tree on that lot ... redo an overlay texture ... give them a spin to look at the foundation steps to insure they align with the walkways ...

Fred   :D    You're right. But what you are seeing is a short dirt path leading from the patio to the concrete driveway. I don't have that sun room on the left side. Maybe, someday.

These look great.  I agree, single family homes are greatly needed to add variety to existing Maxis ones...these will do quite nicely.

I had thought, ages ago when I first sat down to BAT, to do a whole bunch of this type of house, and bundle them all up into what I wanted to call "The Burbs Pack."  But seeing how perfectly you've done these, I couldn't imagine even trying my hand at it - you've done exactly what I envisioned, and done it oh-so-well.

well   ??? The thing I don't know is if ALL of the Blue Ridge models are missing or just one. You see, I gave all the different models a different street address. There are two designated Blue Ridge ... '9827 Blue Ridge Road' that is tan in color and one called 'Blue Ridge Homes by JMyers' which is yellow. They are in the same building family. The game should simply choose a different model if there is one that is missing because it doesn't care if there are 3 models or 8. Look for the folder \My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\BSC\JMyers\Blue Ridge. See if there are 16 files. This is where the Blue Ridge models, the foundation model, and the lots should have deployed.

Hi, I have the brown box issue with blue ridge also. It affects both the lot with numbers in its name and the version without. If I rotate the camera, I can see the building model itself sticking out from the brown box which I guess means it's something other than the models missing. I have installed all dependencies listed, both the required and optional ones.

Rocky Summit Road is also a brown box, but I haven't seen any other lots, and I'm not entirely sure that that lot was part of this pack as I installed quite a few at once.

You are the third person who has asked me about boxes. I spent two hours this past Sunday looking for a reason. A picture of the view you reference would be helpful. I will be stumped for a while without a screen grab. My question is whether you have the latest CP prop packs. The two prop packs I used for trees, C.P. Mega Props Vol 1, and 2, were updated in May of this year with new additional models.

I agree, I have not had any issues, but I also did update the Mega prop packs back in June.

Thanks for the input Jack and Mike.

The nice thing about Cleanitall is that it does not delete files. It moves them. I was able to duplicate the brown boxes by switching out the newer CP Mega Prop Packs with the older versions. Here is the result ... a row of Blue Ridge homes with boxes in the back yard.  :D

The box is prop family 0xCD000A4C. It contains the following models.  CP_SpruceStreetProp_Med, CP_Street_DougFirProp3_11, CP_Street_DougFirProp3_14, and CP_Street_WhitePineA_Med. These models span both Vol 1 and Vol 2.

The answer is to download the the May 2012 versions of CP Mega Props Vol 1 and 2.

I did these diners about a year ago and put them into a folder. I've known they were there but lacked ambition to put them on some lots until this evening. Each sits on a 2x3 corner lot and a 2X2 lot. I need to add some variations to the 2X2 lots but they're just beta lots right now. They are stage 1 CS$ with 26 +/- jobs.

Great little roadside greasy spoons there Jim. I thought the buildings were too tall until I noticed the sloped to the roof in the side view. It was somewhat hidden in the front view unless you looked at it closely. That said, I like the look, and I can imagine it would make the interior feel that much brighter. The textures on Frank's look far too nice/clean for what I imagine the sort of diner this is. The second pics for Johnny Rotten's and Pedro's are pretty much what I would imagine. That said, nice work all around, and I'd love to see some new dining opportunities in my cities in the future.

Nice little diners  &apls  The lotting turned out quite well I think. The details of dumpsters and junk out back, cars, bushes, and good parking lot textures come together quite well

It is not coincidence. I was doing image searches for diners. And found several pictures of Frank's. I used some artistic license, as you can tell, changing the facade to a more retro look. But the texture I used for the sign is perspective corrected from a real photo of the diner. Small world  :D

The Franks, Pedros and Johnnys of the restauranteur world everywhere raise their greasy spoons to you and speak as with one voice:

"We are not worthy, we are not worthy!"

Great work, Jim.  For the game that has everything... more everything.  And top quality, too.

I am taking a break from rural play and I'm tinkering around with some of my larger cities. The light cream building on the left is a Bixel model that is a R$9 in my game. I made the stucco building to the right to add some variety because the Bixel building was growing frequently.

I put my condo on the private LEX for scrutiny this evening. There are currently three items on the private LEX ahead of me. Coming soon to your city?

This is the stage 7 version, growing in a downtown district. Unfortunately, the brownish version grew in the best locations for screen grabbing. The other colors did not, being partially hidden.

That tower compliments Bixel's model well - you are a man of many talents

I remember seeing some rural mining BATs a while back that you were working on - were any of those by chance in the release queue?  ;D

This is an old model but I've enlarged the building and added some additional detailing. Then an Alpha lot. Deciding that I needed to make some props and a few overlay textures.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2007%2F7%2F4%2F1237795%2FFaller%2520front.jpg&hash=ac536feedf82145d770e07e2d29d9fee97f8411e)

I spent 7 evenings and the most of a Sunday working on this loader. I want to push coal around or load coal into trucks. But I got a bit burned with gmax afterwards.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2007%2F7%2F4%2F1237795%2FFrontLoader.jpg&hash=85a29f43ba547c62a398cbe4a48ced09a9315da3)

Then I had some health problems in early January and then my brother passed away late January. That put me into a mood and I put SimCity down for a while. Picking it up again a couple weeks ago. Deciding to do something different (large CAM cities). It was a good exercise. I was doing something different and got enthusiastic again.

Kind of a long answer to the question. Interestingly, you are the second person who has asked me about the mining project. I'll will complete it. Promise. But my minds eye sees one more residential tower before I get back to rural play and the mining project.

Something very painful going on with that railroad Jim  :D

Nice caterpillar, and a good way to spend some evenings. I like the tower as well, looks like it could fit several tilesets.

Hope your health is better and condolences for your brother as well. SC is a good way to improve one's mood.

I recently downloaded and installed the Small Shops Pack 6 (Frank, Pedro and Johnny Diners). I'm seeing the "Water Graphic Bug" with all three shops. Whenever I go to the underground view and return, the base textures of these lots disappears. Can you take a look at these and fix if possible? Thanks...
Title: Re: JMyers Rural Retreat and Small Shops
Post by: threestooges on August 10, 2013, 05:22:35 PM
The water bug is a side effect of a lot not having a base texture. When you come out of the underground view, go to the zoning overlay of the graphs, then turn it off again and it should fix it.

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, what you suggest only works until you go to underground view again. What I'm after is a permanent fix like adding in the missing base textures. I've been working with the PIM-X tool and have managed to put in some textures that seem to have fixed the problem. I wanted to let JMyers know there was a problem in case he wanted to fix it.
