Three drafts of the Viennese City Hall which weren't realized:

The 1st one is soooo close to the Paris "Hotel de Ville" !!!

No surprise, the 2 architects (Lambert and Chadron) come from Paris .

The jury voted against the first draft because it considered the building as too low. Maybe it also wanted more variety at the Ringstraße, which is dominated by similar-looking (i.e. Renaissance-styled) buildings (Opera, University, Museum of Art History, Museum of Natural History, ...) So Friedrich Schmidt's kind of worthy Gothic city hall was built ... (I would have preferred a more daring building. )
