Title: Pense; Quite Some Time Has Passed
Post by: WannGLondon on January 16, 2012, 08:41:28 PM
So I began to realize that I kind of threw this MD together and would like to redeem myself by starting over.

Pense: Capitol of the Kinderlann

Pense, originally named Pensetfor was founded in 1206 by Lord Dorchester, an explorer for the King and Queen. Dorchester discovered this vast valley with a large, glorious river flowing through it and decided that this valley (the Kinderlann) would be a grande place for a town. And so Pense began...

This is the oldest part of the city; Bank Court. Today, it has the highest amount of traffic flowing through it, with two bridges converging here and multiple rail/sub stations in or around the court. Many bankers walk these sidewalks while jabbering away on their cell phones while tourists take in the sites like Federal Hall (the old capital building) on the left side of the image.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg835.imageshack.us%2Fimg835%2F5921%2Fbankcourt.jpg&hash=5989aa4e6aa54be925eaa4a85f5730a1cae85aa1)

Lord Dorchester later had his workforce construct him a grand manor outside of the city limits as to be away from peasants and beggers. His manor is called Argetty; it is one of the oldest standing structures in the metropolitan area of Pense and is now quite ironically in the middle of the city. Dorchester would not be pleased.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg198.imageshack.us%2Fimg198%2F8686%2Fhousepx.jpg&hash=1a752ab7caaaf25ea83e38a9cdc9ca3277eb030a)

Moving to the south, we find ourselves at King's Cross. This railway station provides a hub for thousands of commuters making their way into the financial district and its environs. This station provides services to all parts of southern Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg194.imageshack.us%2Fimg194%2F5640%2Fkingscrossc.jpg&hash=0c504d9bbc118d7d267fb2fcfb0edf28f2114b01)

As we make our way back into the financial district where the city was originally founded, I would like to show you an image of the modern-day skyline. The financial district's main arteries include Front Street, Latimer Street and Davenport street (the corrider is hidden behind the tall towers).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg39.imageshack.us%2Fimg39%2F7036%2Fdwntwnnow.jpg&hash=ff7d4e3c03c28897a861d80da460ab9460ede7f3)

We then zoom into the financial district and find ourselves at Ambring Square, once a grande square where Lord Dorchester like to sit and relax, it is now engulfed in shadow but is still a heavenly retreat for battered bankers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg13.imageshack.us%2Fimg13%2F3248%2Fambring.jpg&hash=6c3d8f3321b2c054ebc90c4cab82b51514ed576e)

This is an older shot, but never-the-less, this is the financial district's view of the mighty LaRoujse (Luh-roojs) River.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg600.imageshack.us%2Fimg600%2F8141%2Frivera.jpg&hash=9732839ade82fde0b4e02c4c210da8c1f0f3df4d)

Moving north of the financial district, this is Perry Station. This is the busiest railway station in all of Pense, most likely due to its close proximity to the financial district. Pedestrians crowd its entry-way and this is the last place you would want to be caught if you have claustraphobia. (This image does not do it justice at how congested this area is).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg13.imageshack.us%2Fimg13%2F6743%2Fperryj.jpg&hash=8ac2e0b17c35a547ee6e458db3e9fc11b1cd6dd5)

Moving northwest from Perry and its pedestrians, this is Saint Street. Saint Street is home to many financial institutions and insurance companies. Saint Street also has some beautiful buildings if i do say so myself.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg405.imageshack.us%2Fimg405%2F5131%2Fsaintstreet.jpg&hash=a3097eaf9595e8c69b36d1d76c533630f38b66c7)

Moving even more westward, we arrive at Champlin Square. This is one of my favorite squares, even if the northern edge of the square does not have beautiful, classical buildings. This square is a retreat for any city-dweller as it is one of the greenest squares in the city and many admire its charming layout and odd serenity.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg191.imageshack.us%2Fimg191%2F1398%2Fchamplinsq.jpg&hash=72d0e01f57cc47e8944b2791efe768069b296131)

South of Champlin Square is what as known as South District. South District is north of Manor Park and is iconic for the nightclub scene. Hours are late here in South District and techno music and neon lighting blare. Unfortunately, inebriated clubbers find themselves in nearby Manor Park, tossing their cookies in the lake or commiting unpleasant acts so the Pense Police Force has really been on their grind.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg832.imageshack.us%2Fimg832%2F3712%2Fsouthdistrict.jpg&hash=471e27a88987156e443183b4e95b998dfd092abc)

This is the view of gorgeous Manor Park, named after Tygate Royal Manor, which we will see next. Manor Park is inspired by St. James Park in London. It is the busiest of the Pense parks and was a frequent visiting ground to Dorchester's family.

This is Tygate Royal Manor. This manor was built as a summer home for the King and Queen and now looms above Manor Park with beautiful views over the park to the city. It is a must-see for any visitor to Pense. Queen's Circus can be seen on the right, a busy intersection marking the westernmost entrance to the central area.

North of Tygate Royal Manor is Mayvale Park. This is one of the largest parks in Pense and any building surrounding this park is on expensive real estate. Mayvale Park's lake in the only natural lake in Central Pense. This image is just a view of some hotels and businesses abutting the park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg513.imageshack.us%2Fimg513%2F9532%2Fmayvale.jpg&hash=5de1b67cc31c97ae715f3e65591985645095da55)

South and west of Mayvale Park is a large, empty area where i would like to grow some urban white terraces that are so common in affluent areas in London, but are not-so-common on SC4 fan sites. If anybody could BAT these beauties, it would help to better my city, thank you.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg827.imageshack.us%2Fimg827%2F6417%2Fwhitetl.jpg&hash=b5d090005bfb19aa46f0c4478b90820e555e48bc)

Going east of Mayvale, this is a view of one of the parts of the central area. In the image is St. May's Church (Berliner Dom) in a neighborhood called Holling Field. This image also includes the neighborhoods called Redmond and Fairing. Fairing is an educational district with many museums and the tall towers near the river are dorms for the students of Vecker College.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg607.imageshack.us%2Fimg607%2F4816%2Fsquares.jpg&hash=f73c4deed13b6e5591577e77382216396b7dd12d)

Moving north of the last image is Klew Bay. This is where the Pense Telecom Tower stands and visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the entire metro area, up and down the mighty river.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg109.imageshack.us%2Fimg109%2F5646%2Ftelecom.jpg&hash=92242ba0624d43c8ee4fd1acd06daeff18b67d42)

To the west of Klew Bay is Carringer and St. George, the northern boundary of the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg15.imageshack.us%2Fimg15%2F2463%2Fnorthfx.jpg&hash=5d74318f39a4f2ac02434a21de8824400a0543ab)

Southwest of the financial district, located on the river, is the South Halls area. South Halls has many government buildings including the courthouse and city hall. The Kinderlann Royale Exchange is also located here, (those large buildings on the river bank).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg716.imageshack.us%2Fimg716%2F6630%2Fshalls.jpg&hash=6202fb253039946be3560ac927a19bfefe75b889)

North of South Halls is Hywater. Hywater is an entertainment district and shopping area. Its main square is Hywater square which is based off of London's Piccadilly Circus.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg217.imageshack.us%2Fimg217%2F6158%2Fcornerx.jpg&hash=1f0e8d5602ad4cd1d4b5e95637cc7d654c09f2c2)

West of Hywater is Jestergulsh, entrance to the Great Morrow, which is where a large concentration of terraces will be soon. These terraces are where many influential people live, from movie stars to government officials.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg836.imageshack.us%2Fimg836%2F6633%2Fwealthy.jpg&hash=2421d224b0102d4feba9a0901571a7a5d546914f)

Moving away from the central area, there are many different forms of housing for Pense's workforce;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg196.imageshack.us%2Fimg196%2F9545%2Fflatliving.jpg&hash=ef5f21634658e0d0ebbe7a4757480a703f446ce5)

Surrey Wharf is sort of a second financial district based off of the Canary Wharf development in London. Surrey Wharf is away from the central area and provides jobs for the western part of the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg585.imageshack.us%2Fimg585%2F5792%2Fsurrey.jpg&hash=a18f92284cc242fd2d17c6c194438b38323050b8)

Here is the soon-to-be port area and in the north we can see Callomine Int'l Airport with express trains from Queen Elizabeth Station in the Central Pense area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg651.imageshack.us%2Fimg651%2F8750%2Fportair.jpg&hash=5e35c1f7338c2242ccc0b2bacc862a8b6e4cd489)

Lastly, here is a region view of the area. This picture was taken a little while ago, as the population shows over 800 thousand whereas the current in-game population is over 900 thousand.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F7333%2Fbig800thou.jpg&hash=28913d414c0b0ab5989de1817a8186bd7c8764a1)

More pictures will be up soon! Hope you enjoyed my London-inspired city. All residential, commercial and industrial buildings were naturally grown, except for a few landmarks. Special thanks to the amazing BATters that could help me create my masterpiece. Please leave comments!  :D

Hmmm ... is it just me that I cannot see the pictures directly? I just see a little icon like a broken image, but when I copy the link to a new browser window, the image opens. Did you enclose the link to that picture with the image control?

Like ['img]<here_goes_the_link_to_your_picture['/img] (discard the ' - I just cannot make it visible if i use it without!)

Apart from that - very nice start. I especially like these row homes in the green ..

You just should consider making larger images, and maybe you should turn off the U-drive-it mission indicators (my-sims menu --> Missions --> Mission toggle on/of)

Hi WannGLondon

Your pictures aren't showing.
Had a look at them, they are in png. That is not your main problem.
Convert them to jpg. Here you could use IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) or similar.

Posting your picture would look a something like this:

Hi WannGLondon

None of your pictures was showing up as you had selected the wrong ImageShack link, I have corrected your first post (select "Embed this Image" and then the "Forum" link in ImageShack) and all your pictures bar the one that is still a png file should now be showing up.

Now for the bad news, when a moderator makes any comments on your posts you do not delete them, as I would like to see this MD continue, I am only going to lock your topic till tomorrow morning when I get up (that's my morning, its currently 10:30pm here in NZ), please don't delete a moderator's comments again.

If you were still looking for some of the white terraces, Gascooker has done a fair few of the style:
http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=353 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=353)
They migth not be exactly what you're looking for but it's better than nothing :p

Thanks DanniBee, but yes i have checked those out among many others, but all 'white terraces' give a suburban feel unlike the ones pictured. Thank you though.

Here's an image of one of the older parts of the city, called Harlington. Harlington Central Station is one of the busiest terminals in the city, and is also one of the oldest terminals. It is a hub for the elevated rail-subway lines. It can be seen at the top of the image.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg12.imageshack.us%2Fimg12%2F4216%2Fcentralpensefeb26289132.jpg&hash=7b95a3902090a5b1fcaaabf022dc6d1ae7b80dbd)

This is the conjuction of Davenport Street and City Road,(among others). The monument in the middle is commemorated to Pense's first mayor.

This is Canton, one of the odder areas of the city, filled with head shops, kitch stores and a museum of the uglier past in Pense. It has many odd hotels and odd people, but is a haven for hippies and down-and-out artists.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg811.imageshack.us%2Fimg811%2F4216%2Fcentralpensefeb26289132.jpg&hash=0fdc833224214a6de55c28b84822c1e171dcd7fa)

These are the old Millfold Factories, across the river, on the right bank. City officials are planning to convert the empty spaces inside the buildings into lofts, shops and possibly, a museum.

This image shows the Dorchester Road Bridge, Court Rail Bridge and Winston Court Bridge. These bridges are life-lines for the downtown bound commuter.

Point Stadium stands out in a district called Portaco. It is home to many sporting events and concerts, and sits on a great location, surrounded by the LaRoujse River. It is truly an important landmark for the city.

West of Point Stadium is Midland Heath. These are some homes bordering the heath.

Southern and Central Pense homes are different than that of Northern Pense homes. These are some northern Pense homes.

In the very north is Churchill Heath, inspired by Hampstead Heath in London, it provides glorious views over the central area.

A suburban sprawl is born in western Pense. The large green by the riverside is Vaypool Heath, another beautiful park in the metro area.

A small center in the suburban sprawl is Lansbande. Lansbande High Street is full of shops and typical suburban stores. Located in front of Spire Circus is Lansbande Hall, once a temple retreat for the wealthy, it is now a district meeting hall for all of the western Pense area.

An update on Kings Cross Station in Pense. KC has surpassed Perry Station as the busiest commuter terminal due to the expanding south and west city. This image gives an idea of the hustle and bustle that goes on in and around the station.

This image shows the hustle and bustle that goes on in and around Bank Court.

Dockton in the west has seen some recent development with the additon of a new housing estate, New Docton Medical Center and Dockton Primary School. Surrey Wharf is seen across the smaller river (Polas River) and in the right of the image, Charlotte Palace stands by the bankside of the LaRoujse, at the entrance of the Polas River. Charlotte Palace has breathtaking views up the river all the way into the central area. It was built by the Charlotte family when the city of Pense was beginning to become a large economic center. Dockton has always been a small fishing village, but just like London's tactic of engulfing surrounding towns, Pense has done the same.

A very ambitious MD, and apparently a lot of work has gone into it!

A mod that you may want to install, if you haven't already is the RTMT (Roadtop Mass-Transit). There are quite a few british-themed options included:
- LU tube station
- TfL bus-sign
- UK busstop road markings
There is no a London-specific busstop shelter, but the SG's collection contains 20 models to chose amongst, so I'm quite confident that you will find at least one that fits in well. And you can have more than one in the same city, as the whole thing is prop-family based, and there is also a mechanism that allows to specify which model will be selected in each plop.
I would say give it a try.

I can't but help notice that there isn't any traffic in any of your pictures except for the few rare taxis and freight traffic.

Does EVERYBODY ride the bus or subway?

Other than that, it looks great!

A current region view. Population over 1,110,000. Some prominent parks and areas are labeled.

Just a small shot of some actual cars commuting through my city since there has been a lack of vehicles in my images, due to the extensive subway network.  :P

There we go! I love to see pictures with actual traffic in it as it makes me feel the pictures are sort of "alive" and they're are Sims driving around all over the place.

Often times while I'm playing, I sit back and just enjoy watching my Sims drive around. Great region view!

Another update.
This image is in the western part of the city, north of Lansbande. On the left we can see the terraces that were constructed before the 1900s and across the LaRoujse River we can see suburban semi's built in the 1950s and 60s.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F159%2Fleftright.jpg&hash=b7a88478626406c63da03ca72b3926c5632b172c)

Moving back into the central area, we find ourselves at Winston Grand. This corridor is sandwiched between the northern limit of Mayvale Park and the terraced neighborhoods of northern Pense. Winston Grand is a large artery for all of western Pense because it is directly connected to the Pense motorway and the central area. This avenue sees a lot of traffic and if you look closely at one of my region views, you can locate Winston Grand at the top of Mayvale Park (the largest central park). Winston Grand runs into one neighborhood called St. George, which is a huge shopping area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg821.imageshack.us%2Fimg821%2F9369%2Fwinstongrand.jpg&hash=4a15316c85ad9059b5bf503b925c4c98ef1c69c2)

South of Mayvale Park is Great Morrow Gate. This is a symbolic gate to the Great Morrow, a large affluent area filled with sweeping terraces and extravagant mansions. The area that is in this image is Lansbury, a neighborhood in the Great Morrow. Lansbury and its neighbors have many religous and educational institutions. Currently, the rest of the Great Morrow is undeveloped, mainly because I have been searching and requesting those white terraces found in central London, but have had no luck.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg580.imageshack.us%2Fimg580%2F4431%2Fmorrowgate.jpg&hash=0e4fd24a67ef4d877164915ca0f3e51b61689ccf)

This is one shot of Lansbury.

South of the Great Morrow is Invish Market. Invish Market is an area that has many produce shops and organic goods. On its western border is Chamber Hall Dept. Store (Xannepan's La Samaritane). Chamber Hall provides many luxuries for the wealthy people of the Great Morrow. Also, a large museum sits beside Chamber Hall, it is called The Morrow Museum; featuring amazing art and sculptures from every century.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg194.imageshack.us%2Fimg194%2F4516%2Finvish.jpg&hash=8d8b87138ddda525d12d979bbc99fbb8272aba91)

Moving back towards the city, we see LaRoujse Ball Hall (the red roofed building in the center). The hall was and still is a ballroom where the royal family holds banquets and lavish parties for the well-to-do.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg813.imageshack.us%2Fimg813%2F3803%2Fballhall.jpg&hash=59dc7783dd4ea06473d6254900226f4d1611aa69)

South of the river is St. Catharine's University. It is one of the most gorgeous unversities in the city, especially with its amazing location overlooking the river and St. Catharine Bridge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg855.imageshack.us%2Fimg855%2F294%2F23658274.jpg&hash=8e53d5f2188036050fd03ef7cbbfb18a523cca38)

In this image is Barhigh Manor. The manor is west of Mayvale Park, but it was built before the park even existed. It was constructed for Dorchester's son. The name is derived from an old, golden bar that was found by Dorchester and his explorers near the current site of the manor. The bar was believed to be made by the old native tribes many years before Dorchester arrived. The manor is gorgeous and is always open to the public, except on holidays. It is truly the most favorite of the Pense royal homes, with gorgeous views of Mayvale and if you are standing on the upper floors, you can see grand views of the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg16.imageshack.us%2Fimg16%2F4584%2Fbarhigh.jpg&hash=953c036e07caa0d8124da70e41e1442463889f8a)

Just a small close-up of Hywater Circus.

Looks good! I like all the Mattb325 row houses and the Parisian W2W buildings. The curves and diagonals in the transportation system add a nice character too, though I'd suggest lining them with ploppable diagonal bats like prepo's, glenni's, or ferox's.

Keep it up!

Thanks Noah, Matt is a great BATter. His buildings help to make my city look gorgeous. And the Parisian buildings are awesome, they were originally residential, but I converted them to commerical growable using the PIM tool. And thanks, maybe I'll try the diagonal buildings out to make a smoother city.

Another update.

North of the financial district and Canton is St. Bartholemews. It is one of the oldest chruches in Pense, built around 1226. It currently sits on an embankment park and is surrounded by dense city buildings, a drastic change from when it stood in the late 1220s. It is a favorite gathering place for busy Pensites (a Pense-born citizen).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg443.imageshack.us%2Fimg443%2F205%2Fstbartholemewe.jpg&hash=09908cac49d2c26280951d915494851dce4ba962)

A larger, more famous church is St. May's Cathedral. St. May's dome stands tall above the wall to wall buildings of central Pense. It can be seem for miles and is one of the most popular tourist sites.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg838.imageshack.us%2Fimg838%2F8681%2Fstmay.jpg&hash=0b1f573f84d881f509c9e1d34a15a07c6a812085)

North of St. May is Northgate. This gate marks the northernmost boundary of central Pense. Northgate is an older structure built in the 1500s. It was once the gate from which all land trade passed through but is now just a small landmark and the plaza around it forms a nice retreat from the common grey and white buildings of Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg19.imageshack.us%2Fimg19%2F1213%2Fnorthgate.jpg&hash=2dc88006c5056b814b957dde5e9a8e1684862947)

Moving south of the river across from the financial district is Winston Court. Government officials still meet here on a weekly basis and it has never been open to the public. It used to be a palace for the queen but was coverted in the 1700s.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg18.imageshack.us%2Fimg18%2F1904%2Fwinstonct.jpg&hash=ff3b669b882161d830d516225bace6ace05d1bbe)

West of Winston Court is The Tower. This large white building on the south bank once stood tall above the city and was used as a signal for the city to take precaution against invaders. It is now a smaller landmark looming over the river but is quite a popular tourist attraction.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg836.imageshack.us%2Fimg836%2F5153%2Ftoweri.jpg&hash=8a05bd1d6cfea7e756e8f0cf15efa5391019ed84)

On the east bank across from the financial district is Lord Harold's Palace. Lord Harold built this palace when the east bank was full of plane trees and green fields. It is now surrounded by homes built in the 1800s and shops that are famous for providing cheaper clothing. The palace is still gorgeous as is the park area surrounding it, and is still a frequent home for most all members of the royal family. The palace has gorgeous views of the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg403.imageshack.us%2Fimg403%2F9159%2Flordharold.jpg&hash=0a2be4f930486f525623006c591d72bef15f1f43)

This is exceptionally nice work, but you might want to pace yourself a bit, my friend.  It's easy to get burned out on the notion that you have to post something on a daily basis.  The maps a bit back were a great help- I'd really enjoy your downtown pics more if you would take the time to do a "walking tour" theme with a detailed local map, and perhaps putting in some RL pics (if you can find ones that fit in).  One other thing that caught my eye were the "vanilla" radius DTR curves near Northgate.  Using wide rail curves in a city setting can be a lot of work, but they add (imho) tremendously to the credibility of the cityscape.

I'll certainly be back by regularly- there's a lot of hard work going into this, and I'll bet there will be big things to come.

Thanks for the comment, David. Yeah I will definitely take what you say into consideration. A walking tour of my downtown actually sounds like a great idea. I try to put up region views frequently so that viewers can have some idea of where they are, I personally love region views on an MD. Lastly, yes I have put a lot of work into this city and I am glad to hear you'll be back regularly ;D

A small update....with some night shots
To start out, here is a night shot of the famed, Bank Court. Sidewalks are rather empty during the night hours, but the historic buildings surrounding the circus are still beautifully lit.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg4.imageshack.us%2Fimg4%2F5342%2Fbcnight.jpg&hash=c02172e633f1f0aa79dc2478f0a58b8bb2661d7a)

This next shot is of a new tower that recently went up across from King's Cross, just across the street from the heart of the financial district.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg854.imageshack.us%2Fimg854%2F4752%2Fnewbldg.jpg&hash=f5309441a48c368ae911afd4f574db0e8cb7b3be)

North of the financial district we can see the gorgeous Davenport Circus.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F1358%2Fdavenportnight.jpg&hash=ca287c41c228bfa6420dc4a390a6c17cd3be1d99)

And moving further north, South District burns brightly as club goers dance the night away and party hard.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg252.imageshack.us%2Fimg252%2F5782%2Fsdnight.jpg&hash=cf0cb03e525b1c5e35ab79b1065bc92aa058138f)

And here we have Corley Gate. The "gate" is an area where Greatland Park meets Worthing Square, the northernmost square in the central area. This gate is a traffic-jammed center from dusk til dawn with commuters and tourists cramming into the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg35.imageshack.us%2Fimg35%2F8736%2Fcorleygate.jpg&hash=40cfa6d153e750300e25462e9e5a5516fdd4a6a1)

Thanks RickD! I've only been once too, but I love it.

Another update.

Today, I've decided to do something different. I wanted to take you viewers on a trip through the route of the average commuter living in Pense. Now, a lot of people use the subway and train in Pense, but for asthetic purposes, I am going to show you the route of a car coming from the large suburban expanse in western Pense.
**Be warned, the commute is long if you travel by car  :P

This is the route we will be taking today, highlighted in red.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg694.imageshack.us%2Fimg694%2F1183%2Fregion1u.jpg&hash=0f6df99a70a7f896f4128c46bb1b493829eaf8b9)

We will start from a small house on the riverside, take your pick at any of the houses.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg37.imageshack.us%2Fimg37%2F740%2Fscene1y.jpg&hash=822ce8c69a71dccb4edd308899a6eca41938363b)

We then travel east up Clarth Road, past some large, tudor mansions that overlook a common and the LaRoujse River. These homes are some of the most expensive in Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg839.imageshack.us%2Fimg839%2F6684%2Fscene2o.jpg&hash=29f75ceb8043c8f5245cf1551657edb4461e5d09)

We arrive at the entrance to the M7 motorway.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg856.imageshack.us%2Fimg856%2F2152%2Fscene3t.jpg&hash=1dfed2b0962dd359e9b8e2b2cf792a559bbdab99)

Making our way east down the M7 we come past large tower flats built for lower income residents, just north of Lansbande.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg190.imageshack.us%2Fimg190%2F9110%2Fscene4c.jpg&hash=a82a8db1e77d03c935aba5e45c976e0d0af16dbb)

We then come to the M7-M19 Interchange.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg710.imageshack.us%2Fimg710%2F9125%2Fscene5y.jpg&hash=8f6e3790b70e71ee42a09303214ed2efbd60cfd0)

Moving even more east on the M7, we find ourselves at the Suthing Bush exit, getting closer to Suthing Bridge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F2568%2Fscene6o.jpg&hash=63de536740278bf2309e7aaa83f91ac82a429389)

Here is Suthing Bridge and Harper Rail Bridge. These two bridges are 2/3 ways you can get into the Central Pense Area, the last is by subway.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg194.imageshack.us%2Fimg194%2F5923%2Fscene7i.jpg&hash=cb55700a47194991f540fddb707109c0b34eabcb)

We then come to where the M7 ends in glorious Central Pense. The industrial center along the riverside and near the end of the motorway may not provide the grandest of entrances though.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F2199%2Fscene8.jpg&hash=36e125a9ece769714986faffdd651ac41fec9d41)

We then come up the eastern part of Winston Grand, driving past some 19th century homes, a true testament saying that you are now in Central Pense Area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg836.imageshack.us%2Fimg836%2F1630%2Fscene9.jpg&hash=262dd3ec8f01182f90bc0ef711ebda664a68ef30)

We then exit the western-most part of Central Pense.

Further east, we come to Asting Cross, at the northwest corner of Mayvale Park, still on Winston Grand.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg862.imageshack.us%2Fimg862%2F2177%2Fscene11.jpg&hash=16c370026176c159b9a0f03a2fc5314ade60131b)

We then come to Points Towers, which provide stunning views across Mayvale Park and into the city. These towers are currently the residences of many affluent people.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg214.imageshack.us%2Fimg214%2F8499%2Fscene12b.jpg&hash=8b738baaadd960396061a1f34b65672db5187291)

Here is Charing Cross Station, the train station sits off Winston Grand and Maylord and provides a hub for all western-bound travellers, it is quite busy on any given day.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg864.imageshack.us%2Fimg864%2F6133%2Fscene13.jpg&hash=91cac2b4560b1e9aee2cf71c3e6641405603c9d6)

Still making our way down Winston Grand we drive past the area of St. George.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg844.imageshack.us%2Fimg844%2F1331%2Fscene14.jpg&hash=9ff4672428ef853a02909a9a5bcd94d9f88531a5)

We then come the Vale Corner, where Winston Grand meets Vale Terrace. We will be making a right onto Vale Terrace, which runs along the eastern side of Mayvale Park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg14.imageshack.us%2Fimg14%2F7683%2Fscene15.jpg&hash=97a19ed8130b840abd7b8e6ced1afe2c9dcf3a2f)

Going south, Vale Terrace meets Tygate Manor.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg36.imageshack.us%2Fimg36%2F3180%2Fscene16.jpg&hash=1408ef0b0df258c83e6a0b65ebeefc7d77b082f8)

Taking the curve south, we arrive at Queen's Circus, which is normally a congested round-a-bout. We make our way east from here.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F7096%2Fscene17.jpg&hash=1c11e6e453427525f037e9262d616c2f681c7b2f)

Going east, we make our way past luxury buildings and a large hospital that overlooks splendid Manor Park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg820.imageshack.us%2Fimg820%2F756%2Fscene18.jpg&hash=0cf13da54089c96ba392bf996210bc919c7ce2eb)

We then take a turn south, past the notorious South District.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg12.imageshack.us%2Fimg12%2F5978%2Fscene19.jpg&hash=c319cc9877bf56f61e8d22cb30f6299c42505942)

Passing South District, we come to Manor Square, a popular square for mostly Pensites.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F6672%2Fscene20.jpg&hash=7e9807057ef12bee89c5a18dd1442654e93506f5)

From Manor Square, we make our way east then south along City Road.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg838.imageshack.us%2Fimg838%2F9858%2Fscene21.jpg&hash=3b32fe72bdc3935e61e9d92127affabc531b1dfd)

City Road takes us right into the financial district and the heart of Pense. This area is where thousands work and is one of the most congested areas. Ambring Square is where one can pick up a quick coffee though, and run into work.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg571.imageshack.us%2Fimg571%2F5831%2Fscene22.jpg&hash=4de0fb249e6008d42099609c47c4fcc96069766c)

That is the end of the average car-commutter's journey, hope you enjoyed the ride.

Note: there is not a lot of traffic showing in the western-city pics because I had paused the game  :P

Eh, not too fond of that mod, thanks though. And glad you enjoyed the update and the ride  :D.

Update on my region
Pense has grown to over 1,300,000 residents and I've started to create some modern-suburban neighborhoods in the west (not the detached semi's). Anyway, here's a pic;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F4403%2Fnewreg.jpg&hash=538ad8b5f31c1eeaab2d1080b758f10585550509)

Thank you Raphael, nice of you to say.

Another update.

Now being showcased; the wonderful palaces of Pense!
First off, here is just a region view so you can get an idea of where the palaces are.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg38.imageshack.us%2Fimg38%2F7725%2Fregpal.jpg&hash=67c663e0af1ab6dc66f20941ba8cd9a01b5f447c)

Lets start off with the palace that is furthest from the Central Area, Hurst Manor. Hurst Manor is the current home to the Duke of Goring. It was built in 1089 and is the oldest palace in all of Pense. It provides stunning views all over the metro area and is very popular with native Pensites. Many tourists are too keen on seeing it just because it is too far from the central area. But, a subway line will be added soon near the site so tourists will be more likely to come see it.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg267.imageshack.us%2Fimg267%2F3606%2Fhurstpal.jpg&hash=aaa330d1f5d46813685c43841f70fe60499acadc)

Making our way further into the city, we arrive at Charlotte Palace. Charlotte Palace has been mentioned before in a previous update, but here is some more information on it. The Palace is the current home to the Duke and Duchess of Rudding, but unfortunately, the Duke and Duchess aren't home frequently because there have been reports of the palace being haunted. It is easy to believe these reports because long ago the mayor of Dockton was found dead on its back lawn, next to the river. :o
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg401.imageshack.us%2Fimg401%2F1443%2Fvharlottepal.jpg&hash=72a42fd2c6e65807aac1c59aff371b6154653f34)

Perhaps the grandest palace in all of Pense is High Barrad Palace. This palace is the current residency of any member of the royal family and its gardens are a favorite of many tourists. It was built in 1328 and provides grand views down the river to the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg259.imageshack.us%2Fimg259%2F4825%2Fhighbarradpal.jpg&hash=1e3114c73ab4ffae3cfc4658a2b1118f9e9abb7c)

Moving into the central area is Barhigh Manor, a wonderful manor on the north-west side of Mayvale Park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg577.imageshack.us%2Fimg577%2F4840%2Fbarhighpal.jpg&hash=4a402c1a275d2d7040f4ece0dbac0b4d8f452e79)

Next we come to Mortimer House, north of the city. It was once a royal retreat but today is a museum. The neighborhood surrounding the house is once of Pense's most expensive addresses.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg444.imageshack.us%2Fimg444%2F2930%2Fmortimerhs.jpg&hash=93a335c01625f5a0aacbbacac9d38e9d78c6d876)

Moving into the central area is of course, Argetty Palace, the old residence of Dorchester himself. It is currently not open to the public because of massive renovation.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg201.imageshack.us%2Fimg201%2F1395%2Fdorchesterpal.jpg&hash=33bfd220d089d86a1782b040b290da1a4d79186b)

Just north of Manor Park is Tygate Manor, the favorite home of the royal family.

South of the river is Winston Court. Not a palace today, but was one once. Great views of the financial district can be seen from its embankment.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg38.imageshack.us%2Fimg38%2F1904%2Fwinstonct.jpg&hash=166d36a87413135f5cbfea114dcd85f7cd27eee1)

Next is Lord Harold's Palace. This palace still boasts the best royal parties and also has stunning views of the financial district. It was once a retreat like many of Pense's palaces, but is now surrounded by the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg189.imageshack.us%2Fimg189%2F6210%2Fharoldpal.jpg&hash=fb2d318fcb5b662ada377f98a56da3bb04e2349a)

Lastly, I just want to thank Alex for his amazing contributions to the game. Here is an in-game screenshot of the Hotel de Ville, south of Mayvale Park. Thanks Alex.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg805.imageshack.us%2Fimg805%2F1672%2Fdevilleon.jpg&hash=bcc8fce13c8a178ab468c4315b6945b5bab9f905)

Why this is my first post here I have no idea. I love the endless terraces and grand manor houses of Pense. It's always nice to see people making British-style cities, which I agree with you are not the easiest cities to make with the lack of british-style buildings around. Although there are a decent selection of British Skyscrapers on the STEX, and many of Mattb325's BATs are perfect for what you're doing, and you've used them well. ;D ;D

Just out of curiosity - the Maxis Highway circling around Pense, is that supposed to be a recreation of the M25? Or maybe the North and South Circular? (except they have a lot of at-grade intersections, which you can't properly do with MHW) or maybe another part of the London Ringways Project? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Ringways)

Another update.

Just some images from my city, and how certain areas have changed.

In the west, along the Polas River, poorer areas have sprung up.

Are the row houses grown or plopped? If grown, then I guess it takes a lot of patience and bulldozing to achieve the uniform look.
I also like the new train skins.

Well, I've actually been wanting to explain this, so here goes. All the residential (and commercial) buildings are growable. I simply have placed No Maxis Buildings Mod in my Plugins folder. Then I just choose certain lots like gascooker's rowhomes and they grow on my medium-density 1x2 zones. As for my suburban semi's, they only grow on 2x3 and sometimes 2x2 low-density zones. I have manipulated many lots to only grow on certain densities using the SC4Tool. For example, those red terraces by Mattb I set them to grow on only high-density 1x1 zones, I simply deleted the 1x2 lots found in that terrace download so I do not have those springing up. Lastly, I have uniform housing in certain cities because I simply extracted certain rowhomes that look alike and play the cities that use those certain rowhomes. When I play a different city with different rowhomes, I have to basically switch the folders around.
Honestly, I only have about 10 or 15 residential lots, all manipulated to grow only on certain types of zones.

Thanks a lot!

Another update.

To start off, Winston Grande has had a new tower added to its skyline. I basically had to have a large office building built sort of on the outskirts of the central area because sims are starting to abandon homes because of long commute time.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg689.imageshack.us%2Fimg689%2F7734%2Fnewwnstw.jpg&hash=9f4b6672701597ea08035dbacb28ad5e962a17a4)

This tower stands on a hill northeast of the central area. The rowhomes surrounding the hill and tower are lots I made when I found those charming rowhomes in a BSC prop pack. This hilly area was inspired by those many hilly park areas found in London that provide amazing views of the central area. In case you haven't noticed, I love views.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg809.imageshack.us%2Fimg809%2F7375%2Fhillview.jpg&hash=92c5e7d6b08a0a254bcf122a58175f8879a029b6)

And here is an image of some development that has gone on on the south-side of the river, across from downtown. I am trying to make a Southwark-looking area here.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg710.imageshack.us%2Fimg710%2F3996%2Fcenterbank.jpg&hash=14b6abd19a1944a58ed71b39a57c7d54df7fd1d1)

Lastly, here is an image of my growing city, now almost 1,500,000 people. If you look in the northwest part of the city where the river curves, you will see Westly Stadium, based off of Wembley in London, also located in the northwest part of the city. I like to post images of my region because many members seem to like the images and I certainly do too. Sorry if it's a bit much.

Another update.

The residencies of glorious Pense.
In this update I am going to show you the different residencies of Pense and give the pros and cons to each homestead. I would also like to ask; Where would you want to live?

Lets start off with some older homes. These row homes were built around the time when Lord Dorchester reigned. They are built by the riverbank and are very cozy and small. Pro: Gardens in the back and view of the river. Con: Walls are so thin you can hear your neighbor's mouse fart.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg840.imageshack.us%2Fimg840%2F8462%2Foldrow.jpg&hash=ceb8f735796ec1f3eecdeda07291039cc1f4c15a)

These quaint rows were built in the early 1800s just north of the central area. This area is actually a quite expensive neighborhood, probably because of the amount of greenery. Pro: Wonderfully decorated homes and ownership of one the rowhomes gives you a key to access your local square. Con: Traffic noise is quite bothersome due to the proximity of the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg696.imageshack.us%2Fimg696%2F9852%2Fncrow.jpg&hash=5899540139ba9ca2c074edea261c2f90aff83b9b)

Next we have some opulent terraces in Lansbury, just west of the central area. Many of Lansbury's squares are open to the public and each terrace provides many rooms and luxuries. Higher floors in the terraces have views of the central area. Pro: Green streets, friendly neighbors and sheer beauty of the buildings. Con: Traffic noise and good luck finding parking!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg16.imageshack.us%2Fimg16%2F9324%2Fterracerich.jpg&hash=30ada1f8b2ef0425ba264d5a4edd17cafa118d18)

Now we move to the inner city. These aren't really residencies, but rather dorms for the students at Vecker College. Pro: Amazing views and quick access to all of the central area's delights. Dorms are also right across from Queen Elizabeth Station, with direct access to Callomine Int'l Airport. Con: Loud college students.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg52.imageshack.us%2Fimg52%2F7760%2Fveckerdorm.jpg&hash=31bc1aa264bbdeb5a9e7223c0bd8486abc8e93dc)

Across the river from Vecker College are the Westbourne Projects. Situated adjacent to the lively Primrose-Strand area, these projects were built to house the workers and their families of Pense's many industries. Pro: Strong sense of community, safety has also been at an all-time high in recent years. Con: Traffic noise and litter on the streets.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg585.imageshack.us%2Fimg585%2F9595%2Feastbankproj.jpg&hash=c6b0f6585d479fe225ab4275296bcc1e66ed12ff)

Here we have some northern Pense terraces. These terraces were built in the early 1900s and are just plain lovely.
Pro: Quiet neighborhood, also recieve your own key to your local square. Some homes also have stunning views of the city. Con: May have to drive to your closest metro station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg14.imageshack.us%2Fimg14%2F1812%2Fnorthhomes.jpg&hash=2af5e6c6cc408945b746c00dd1f1e97b947200fc)

Moving towards the suburbs we find these condo complexes in southern Pense. These complexes were built in the 1950s and were originally shunned by the local community. Condos like these have sprung up all over the metro area though, and locals have accepted them. Pro: Great for smaller families, very safe. Con: Very boring environment, far from central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg688.imageshack.us%2Fimg688%2F4622%2Fcondo.jpg&hash=9736d9a33ac92dcc80c6111eeeaed04532813e13)

Next we have some very modest, medium-size family homes. These homes were built in the 1950s also and have some wonderful ammenities. Pro: Ideal for growing families, your own backyard and garden. Con: You'd better know your address by heart, because there are thousands of these homes all over Pense, so good luck identifying yours.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg269.imageshack.us%2Fimg269%2F3039%2Fmodsingle.jpg&hash=3e7828fe608b1f07adb74b68d11b769019cd0752)

We then move on to the famous Pense suburban semi's. These homes are perhaps the most popular of Pense families.
Pro: Your own backyard, very safe in most neighborhoods, always a local park nearby. Con: Same as the smaller homes. Also, may be far from the closest metro station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg692.imageshack.us%2Fimg692%2F2268%2Fsubsemi.jpg&hash=b916322d7b38b55611e6092313496cb5b3b58df8)

Moving further out into the suburbs, we find some more modern homes. These homes have become quite popular in recent years, with full amenities and grand design. Great for large families. Pro: Great neighbors, green living and safe areas. Con: Far from the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg163.imageshack.us%2Fimg163%2F7152%2Fmodlarge.jpg&hash=148f9a3434b3f5b0123633f257a26e737274ccbb)

These suburban terraces are very quaint and lovely. Great for newlyweds or small families. Very popular with retirees.
Pro: Safe environment, large backyards. Con: Bad choice if you are afraid of aged 60+ adults.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg820.imageshack.us%2Fimg820%2F4830%2Ftinyterr.jpg&hash=70a72ba33678c0aa8803189e8c9f770f39792dd9)

These are the Dockton Projects. Built in the 70s for Surrey Wharf's poorer workforce. Pro: Great views of the river and central area. Con: You may not get an apartment with a window. Also, safety is not very high.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg137.imageshack.us%2Fimg137%2F6864%2Fdocktonproj.jpg&hash=b4a9234a42f1df9a7f15ac70144b44d02a355291)

Lastly, in Norbold Wood, we have some large tudor mansions. These mansions are a bit on the older side, but are very secluded and gorgeous. Pro: Private, grand and safe. Con: May be far from the closest metro station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg805.imageshack.us%2Fimg805%2F8565%2Fnorboldmans.jpg&hash=7cfa278a7444e31d2ef491b2505a0f8fe770c4f1)

There are some other types of homes located in Pense, but I will present you with those later. You may have seen some in past updates.

But for now, so long!

Hey guys, so I have decided to delete my current region of Pense. To be honest, I have not been completely happy with its development and I have learned many things while creating this great city. What I have learned I will apply to a new Pense, making it bigger and better. The old Pense will be sorry to go, but a better Pense is on its way!
Anyway, here is a last region view of Pense.

Too bad you're discontinuing this MD, there aren't that many which focus on large metropoles, something I aspire to as well (some day  ::) ) so this was quite inspirational. Ah well, all good things come to an end and I'm sure the new Pense will be better and even bigger than before  ;) Take care for now.

Post by: WannGLondon on April 22, 2012, 07:46:52 PM
Hey guys, thanks for all the comments and support. I am sorry for ending this MD, but I do promise you, I have learned more about gameplay and have studied London more extensively so that my new Pense will be even better. I do not want to disappoint you guys, so I promise this Pense will be great. Lastly, I will tell you that one of the biggest reasons I wanted to end this MD is because I was unhappy with the suburban commercial development and the areas across the river from the central city. Many of my commercial development in the suburbs had long rows of the same building because I had radical demand mods. Repetitive buildings are fine for my residentials, not for my commercials. I also plan to make the central area more circular, like the real London. Anyway, keep your hopes up!

See you all soon,
Warren.

Update on the new and improved Pense

Here is a current area view. I am going to make the central area more circular and I've really improved the Southwark-inspired area.

And here is the Southwark-inspired area, Lemgate and Cross Haven. Just a teaser  ;)

Thank you, and neither do I haha.

Another update.

In this update I am going to present some images of the developing area, on our way to surpass the old Pense.

I am first going to start in the north end of the central area with St. George Hill. This hilly area was fun to develop and of course it has stunning views all over the central area. A favorite to local Pensites and one of my favorite places so far. It was named after Lord Dorchester's dog oddly enough.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7242%2F7119433269_6a49592594.jpg&hash=aca821b39d4a42ac009c5ce322cfd1df48d85cb8) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/7119433269/)

In this image is the developing Bank Court. Hopefully a soon-to-be financial Mecca.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7263%2F7119432429_6cb8796649.jpg&hash=f35d203663ba31777c85076f29908020f8d9952d) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/7119432429/)

Just down the road from St. George Hill is St. George Train Station and the wealthy neighborhood of Highbury. It is inspired by Bloomsbury in London.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7045%2F7119431943_d6e245b82f.jpg&hash=169191e167868c79aeb65dc1a4d49130bf209dac) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/7119431943/)

Here we have Bowfield High Street (the road going north-south) and the surrounding terraces and gardens. This area is one of the oldest in the whole city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7210%2F6973353596_6eb327bea9.jpg&hash=e2e0d4bc05ec7bf6aa531d11db93ab42c2fc73c4) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/6973353596/)

And here we have some Lemgate condos and apartments. Not the wealthiest neighborhood, but that is what makes a city metropolitan!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7091%2F7119431081_7afe991124.jpg&hash=fc1f18f9ad6ffc825c04b7e876b913d7d9139760) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/7119431081/)

In this image is another one of my favorite parts of the city, Seward Circus. This roundabout somewhat provides an entrance to the southern-central area of Cross Haven and Lemgate. It is quite fun to watch cars and double-decker busses (yes Cathy, I took your advice and got some double-decker busses  ;)) make their way around this busy roundabout.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8003%2F6973350278_fec6c60d2d.jpg&hash=c1b3caca76ce19753c27a386d7574df4d849b271) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/6973350278/)

And of course, it wouldn't be my MD without adding a region pic at the end, hope you enjoy.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8019%2F6973353790_1f3a1332ca.jpg&hash=923123c93333acc5331570de03da2e5dd1341345) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/6973353790/)

Oh well... it is obvious that the new update is full of pics to review... but before I start, I must say that I am quite impress with the new Pense... I like the layout of the city... I can see the more circular pattern you are trying to achieve which I believe you mention a couple day back right? Although it is not that big yet, I really look forward for more development.. Keep it up

...This roundabout somewhat provides an entrance to the southern-central area of Cross Haven and Lemgate. It is quite fun to watch cars and double-decker busses (yes Cathy, I took your advice and got some double-decker busses  ;)) make their way around this busy roundabout...

Can you be tempted by new bus stops as well as the STEX has the DEX British Bus Stop Pack

as always love the pictures and of course the region shot   :)

Same to you Jonathan! Thank you.

Another update.

Good afternoon from California. Would just like to show you members some of my iconic busses and my charming high streets.

To start, here is a high street right across from Seward Green. It is one of my favorite high streets, I used Haarlemgold's Dutch building models to create some high street shops with the PIM and LE.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F813%2Fshighstreet.jpg&hash=d8a6e06c39918c63ee47626ba2a2f5a211f746d1)

Here is another high street with a bus passing through it, a common scene in Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg28.imageshack.us%2Fimg28%2F9015%2Fhhbus.jpg&hash=5b5d399dda50f00ee8bdfb16698d1e3fd3bc6450)

And here is the famous Bank Court with some double decker busses passing through it. Bank Court is one of the hubs for Pense's bus empire.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg152.imageshack.us%2Fimg152%2F2301%2Fbcbus.jpg&hash=79dc3656f695d72b2088b1bb0b44bb0e0a1ff7c1)

And here are some busses just coming off of the Lemgate Bridge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg268.imageshack.us%2Fimg268%2F8990%2Fbridgebus.jpg&hash=8e8fec90834fa6b34bf4a371bd06ff8271f72573)

Sorry for the shortness, better updates will come later, promise. Hope you enjoyed.

Nice looking high street, I imagine you'll be using a lot of Ill Tonkso's BATs as well since most of his work is based on London.

And great to see the red decks are running around in Pense, however, I do have to second Cogeo's suggestion a while back; yellow road marking isn't found anywhere in London, or in GB at large. And frankly red on yellow is a bit of an eyesore.  ;)

In addition I second Caty's request for a regionview and some stats on population would be nice as well. After all, you do know that's why we follow your MD, right?! $%Grinno$%

In any case, keep up the good work

Another update.

This is just an update about some of Pense's transportation system, especially trains.  :D

In this first image we see one of Pense's elevated trains crossing over into the LaRoujse into the financial heart. It is leaving from an area known as Cross Haven, an area inspired by Southwark, London.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg254.imageshack.us%2Fimg254%2F7466%2Foverriv.jpg&hash=faf0b680c348b04aee5d00017a93af40eb840e81)

Here is that same elevated rail bridge with two trains crossing at the same time, a new meaning to the phrase 'double-crossing'  ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg441.imageshack.us%2Fimg441%2F861%2Fdoublef.jpg&hash=99bc9bc38f24bca6c6dce73744db5646bec22217)

And here we have some trains cutting through Hammerhill. This line is currently one of the busiest in the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg214.imageshack.us%2Fimg214%2F7032%2Fnorthtrain.jpg&hash=8cf70330eaa30c6a68806c9aa5c6d8229a57d8fc)

And not so much about trains, but here is Castle Circus, a busy roundabout that serves as a smaller entrance to Cross Haven.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg689.imageshack.us%2Fimg689%2F1580%2Fcastlecir.jpg&hash=df35aa6d7f41890beda71c8c6bb9ad2a64af7e00)

And lastly, I would like to thank Carlos (Debussyman) for donating these ever-so-gorgeous terraces to me. I will finally be able to complete my city because of his contribution. Anyway, here is a preview of them.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg688.imageshack.us%2Fimg688%2F8378%2Fdbterr.jpg&hash=d039b6ec9615a3fb91bdf89e085073df0eb9b05c)

Once again a nice update.

JENX's quays are difficult to work with indeed, however, you might want to level the ground before plopping any kind of seawalls. Otherwise they misalign like they do now (and what's up with the waves in the first pic btw ???).

Last pic is my favourite. Mind telling where can I find those coloured terraces?

Yeah, sorry about the waves haha, but the Thames is tidal  ;). The colored terraces are from Debussyman, you'll have to ask permission from him to use them, and if he says yes, I will send them to you. Thanks for the comment.

Glad you like it Raphael, thanks.

Another update.

I would first like to start off with Vaulte Village, a small area developed to the south of the Central Area. It is famous for head shops and ethnic enclaves. It is nearby to Parliament Oval, a crowded stadium surrounded by even more crowded streets. This picture does not do it justice, but the one way road surrounding the stadium are very crowded with traffic during morning and evening commutes. It is one main entrance to the Central Area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg841.imageshack.us%2Fimg841%2F5273%2Fvaulte.jpg&hash=ae7c69b117e773c6610f87c6fcf6baa779be867b)

Second, I just wanted to show you all a train making its way into the Central Area. Sorry about all the train/bus pics, I am just really loving my automata.  :P
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg521.imageshack.us%2Fimg521%2F3587%2Ftrainway.jpg&hash=b55977cab265806f34c06d460f54f1448eb0e758)

In this image we have the Great Southern, Great Eastern and Great Western railways coming together. They all arrive in Cross Haven Central Station, right across the river from the financial district and Bank Court.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg84.imageshack.us%2Fimg84%2F2258%2Ftrafficcross.jpg&hash=15e41d60fa7744234cd0580f9848fc51797f8be0)

This image is for my friend, cmdp123789, he told me that I could basically make an elevated (train) rail bridge and I found out how to do it, so thanks.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg822.imageshack.us%2Fimg822%2F3547%2Frailfix.jpg&hash=33705032e23a768460ed533c69b02646b2c2f151)

This has to be one of my favorite areas in the city. It is Derling Hill, a hilly, wealthy suburb that rises about 100 feet above the central area. You can go to the end of one of these cul-de-sacs and see a view down the street right into the Central Area. This hilly area was inspired by Westow Hill in South London, where you can look down a street and see London's Central Area. Love my views  ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg525.imageshack.us%2Fimg525%2F1916%2Fderling.jpg&hash=3f90ddc1e52fd6af86f9a746574de2a1e855b8a8)

Here is the pic that inspired me, if anyone is interested.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcache.virtualtourist.com%2F6%2F2131722-Crystal_Palace_view_from_Westow_Hill_London.jpg&hash=b5523329079d4bbd340e886e0001ba769869a4ca)

Second to last, we have a small, red Routemaster bus coming from the neighborhood of Gatton. One of my favorite busses to see roaming the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg694.imageshack.us%2Fimg694%2F6120%2Fbusgatton.jpg&hash=b5416213dd711e3fa8ad186efab07afda200991f)

And here we have the anticipated region view. Sorry for the wait everyone, but here it is. The population is about 300,000 plus, I am using the RHW instead of the Maxis Highway in the east in case you didn't notice and some things have been changed. Changed, but improved. For example, I got rid of St. George's Park, because I believe I can do better. Well, hope you enjoyed.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg684.imageshack.us%2Fimg684%2F2551%2Fawait.jpg&hash=4955da0040e25a88da18042077d6c5646f62094f)

Just a region shot for you guys. I have really been growing Pense into the east. Would like to make a Canary Wharf kind of area at the curve in the river, just like London. I am also including more trees and open spaces between neighborhoods and 'villages' just like London and its other English sister cities. In the last Pense, it was looking more American, with not a lot of open space between different areas. Well, here it is and hope you all enjoy. And thanks for everyone who helped me achieve Best Sellers.

Today I would like to present you all with the charming area of Chutney Village. Chutney Village is an expensive area in Northern Pense that overlooks the central area and came to be after Dorchester had his palace, Argetty, constructed here.

Starting off in lower Chutney, here is the southern part of Velling Heath. This heath has wonderful views of the central area and is a favorite place in the summer-time for locals to picnic. It was originally restricted to the public because the heath was actually part of Dorchester's property. Never the less, in 1788 it was opened to the public and the people of Pense have adored it ever since.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg15.imageshack.us%2Fimg15%2F7007%2Flwrvelling.jpg&hash=3bc9fcfb54b79755771bc27de75a2b9d87c6a2f5)

Moving a little more north, we come to Argetty, Dorchester's splendid manor. This manor overlooks Pense, but was built at a time when the city was just a small fishing port. Dorchester strategically located his palace here as to be as far away as possible from Pense's peasants. The area south of the palace was once filled with gardens and Dorchester's seven horses. His family would come out when the weather permitted and spend time in the wood that surrounds today's Velling Heath.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg826.imageshack.us%2Fimg826%2F5025%2Fargetty.jpg&hash=66b8a123fc40b81952857050c8ca6a6c6d3a7db6)

Moving even more north, we have some Chutney rows. These row homes go for a pretty penny, due to the greenery and clean air that surrounds the area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg546.imageshack.us%2Fimg546%2F9658%2Fchutneyrows.jpg&hash=edd49a4d6875a1b8fbaf79519e1c2bc6d02aea49)

And here we have Chutney High Street. It is just east of the Chutney rows and has small little shops that provide Chutney Village's wealthy residents with the best goods. Lately it has become a tourist haven because of the top class goods each store provides. Local residents were becoming fed up with outsiders coming in from horrible Hammerhill and weird Waymorrow that the residents were having a petition to gate each end of the High Street. Luckily for the rest of Pense, it never went through.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg444.imageshack.us%2Fimg444%2F8505%2Fchutneyhigh.jpg&hash=8000d7be9b778f5a0ed5a0d5a8479c305adaca98)

Moving out of Chutney Village and into the east, I would just like to show you the Bow Turnpike. This highway runs just north of the river into the east. It is the highway that is closest to the central area currently, so it is heavily used.
It is just south of Waymorrow and the eastern Pense hills.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg12.imageshack.us%2Fimg12%2F4788%2Feastturnpike.jpg&hash=f30aed15866b9b9e2921c8d7a9b7659fbe3c7497)

Here we have downtown Pense. It has changed quite a bit with a few new towers adding to the skyline.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg824.imageshack.us%2Fimg824%2F6915%2Ftwrsdwn.jpg&hash=cb6d4289bc6c4dd8dbd7b689e760e4af70d2070a)

And lastly, here is a region view. Population has reached 550 thousand plus and there's no stopping there  ;). You can see Chutney Village in the north around Velling Heath and its large trees. In the east you can see the Bow Turnpike running though eastern Pense as well. Hope you enjoy!

Looking good as always and region shot is

my only criticism is with the parks and that's more a personal preference on my part to fill up all the empty spaces with ploppable parks and woods like this one;

QuoteTypical of the many sprawling houses estates developed from the 1980s onwards in Britain, this small wooded pathway offers a haven for wildlife and a safe way for children of getting around the estate without having to negotiate busy roads.

Amazing to see how fast Pense is expanding!  &apls

Love the burbs as always, though the pics themselves seems compressed a bit too much. And you might want to turn of the grid (press 'g') when you take them. Pet peeve really  ;)

Looking forward to the next update, keep it up

I liked the update... pics were too compressed but that doesnt damage the essence of the picture itself. I like the expansion... and you add a couple new buildings to the downtown area which is good, I mean not because you have to fill everything with towers, but because now you have a well defined downtown.

I like also the rails in Pense... and what  you did with the seawalls next to the RHW... good effect

I think that's why I noticed your parks and suggested adding something ... without the grid showing they would have looked a lot nicer   :)

Sorry no replies are going to be posted right now, but I would like to present you all with a quick region preview. Pense has reached a population of 612 thousand plus and I have expanded the Eastern Highway and started the new Callomine Int'l Airport in the south-west.

Beautiful region view my friend !! Are you thinking about to do some zones inspired in the financial districts of London?
I think London has one of the best financial districts in Europe it would be so great see them in your region ! As you know you've got a lot of buildings from Canary wharf or the City [ Square Mile ] so you can make your own Financial district.

Great job as always my friend, Keep up the good workd

I gotcha, but I think I would rather just remove the grid, because when I place a park in an open space, the elevation change and terrain do not show up as well, thanks though.

Another update.

Today I would like to present you all with some pictures from the older parts of the city. Realize, these images are from present-day Pense, but the locations are from older parts of the city.

Starting off on the south bank, in Lemgate, here is the Lemgate Power Station. This power station may be the newest building in the next few images, but no matter, it is 'old' in today's standards. It was constructed in 1927 on the site of and old cemetary. Certain protective agencies were not too happy about this fact, but comissioners of the power station promised to dig up all plots, and move them to a more prestigous cemetary located to the south of the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg135.imageshack.us%2Fimg135%2F6603%2Fsouthind1.jpg&hash=21daa279ed079edf8ac02c93e4e68b9accd7bb51)

Next we have the St. Barhigh Cathedral. This cathedral was built in the 1400s and has served the communities of Lemgate and Cross Haven for hundreds of years. It was once Pense's largest church but was surpassed by St. Corring in 1502. This church is still adored by the community and is a favorite vantage point for tourists wanting to see gorgeous downtown Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg836.imageshack.us%2Fimg836%2F1397%2Fstlemgate1.jpg&hash=645b1604342112f97a68b7c23ed620edb16b86c7)

Still on the south bank, we have Cross Haven Train Terminal. This terminus was built in 1789 and serves all of southern Pense and is one of the city's busiest terminals. It has been the site of many historical events, including the safe house from Pense's Great Fire of 1832.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg825.imageshack.us%2Fimg825%2F783%2Fcrosshaventerm1.jpg&hash=9de5a1bc5e32cf86eb760345bc8e3ece631fd089)

Towards the southern edge of the central area we have some homes built in the 1800s. These homes are quite modestly priced, even though they are historical wonders themselves. These homes have survived everything that has plagued the city. They are definitely gems of the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg225.imageshack.us%2Fimg225%2F2491%2Fsouthcentral1.jpg&hash=7bdf8bba04ca754a9620cd204e9e0d11b062da3a)

Next we have Seward Circus, an entrance to the central area since the 1600s. Of course, back in the 1600s, it was about the size of a Burger King. Now, Seward Circus is a largely congested intersection that provides a cool entrance to the southern edge of the central area. The rail bridge running through the middle of it was built in 1850 and is my favorite part of the whole round-a-bout.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg692.imageshack.us%2Fimg692%2F2716%2Froundabout1a.jpg&hash=5606982d701b20b06a7a565b28b19c0db11242ad)

Moving across the river we find ourselves at The Tower. This building has served as a city hall, a church, a secret society and today, it functions as a museum. It was built in 1655 and is a jewel of the "North End" as southern Pensites call it.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg860.imageshack.us%2Fimg860%2F7037%2Ftowerterm1.jpg&hash=3c7a617fbaa5ca798205c99fb9032d5c1e43c52b)

Just north of The Tower are the Bow rows, These row homes are extremely old and very delicate, one could say. These homes are checked every year for safety simply because of the age of them. They are currently home to a large foreign-born population, hoping to make their lives a success in the grand city of Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg11.imageshack.us%2Fimg11%2F5117%2Foldrows1.jpg&hash=2b0f3eb4cbd1c4af306193575ade2bca54a5506b)

Here we have Wayvare Hall, which houses Pense's government. It was originally a palace built in 1709, but then converted in 1750 when the palaces owner was found mysteriously dead in the nearby LaRoujse River. The hall stands over the embankment and is surrounded by various government buildings and offices. It is also nearby to some embankment gardens that have wonderful views up and down the river.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg401.imageshack.us%2Fimg401%2F5272%2Fwayvarehall1.jpg&hash=b2f71f20a8854e47208b72365acf64cc4c35047a)

And of course, I had to include one of my favorite parts of the city, Bank Court. Bank Court started out in 1230 as a large square with various market stalls and peddlers. It is perhaps one of the parts of the city that has changed the most. It is now the marker of Central Pense, from which all distances are measured. It is now surrounded by many 'royal exchange' offices and banks and what not.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg338.imageshack.us%2Fimg338%2F992%2Fbankcold1.jpg&hash=42e8c9861f1082c8a03862b240eeee6e174e8563)

Lastly, we have some glamorous row homes in the north-western area. These terraces were built in the 1750s and have wonderful views of the central area from their back windows. These homes are very expensive, and half of them are used as embassies of smaller hotel-apartments.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg854.imageshack.us%2Fimg854%2F5930%2Fstrows1.jpg&hash=f913d1fe79a28186b7e4a0ea9df55e00cba83a2d)

Anyway, hope you enjoyed this update, sorry about the compression of the images, I do not know how this is happening. As always, please leave comments or criticism below.

The one thing London and I'm assuming Pense is the same is having lots of canals as they were the means of transporting freight around the city and out into the countryside, they were also used for moving rubbish from the city like the Grosvenor Canal in London.

Anyway great pictures they really do look like they were taken years ago  &apls

Just a quick region shot for all of my 'fans' haha. I'd personally like to thank the members that have kept up with my updates and always commenting, including Criss, Alex, Raphael, Cathy, Vortext, Jonathan and Nbvc. Thank you all so much, your comments drive me into improving and expanding Pense.

Anyway, I've added Canton Resovoir in the West, based off of Brent Resovoir in London. Also, St. George Hill Park is completed with beautiful terraces sweeping the eastern side of it. And my suburbs are getting close to Callomine Int'l.

Another update.

Today I would like to present you all with the wonderful squares of Pense that make the city and unique and green place to live. London is famous for its romantic squares and its large green trees inside of them, so I have tried to resemble them as best as I could.

Just north of the financial district is Wolburn Market. The market sits on Wolburn Square which is one of the first squares to populate the city. On the north side we see Wolburn Hall which used to be used as a courthouse, but was converted in 1899 to house shops. Wolburn Market is quite crowded on weekends and is a popular tourist destination, especially for the vast amount of flowers being sold.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg594.imageshack.us%2Fimg594%2F7440%2Fwolburnmark.jpg&hash=6b806d19f3a0900027698d72c0f5f31910298a76)

Very close to the financial district, we have Downing Square. This square is arguably one of the most romantic squares in the city. This square used to require a key from anyone living in the financial district area, but was opened to the public in 1867. On the northern side of the square are exclusive terraces, owned by rich bankers, and on the west side of the square, is St. Norvath Church.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg10.imageshack.us%2Fimg10%2F6153%2Fdowningsq.jpg&hash=882d5ce401ede5724dda57740ba5f08dbb018a57)

In the southern central area, we have some embankment gardens that provide a tranquil refuge for many government workers, since this area is spotted with government buildings, like the Department of Health and Department of Recreation.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg402.imageshack.us%2Fimg402%2F484%2Fembanksq.jpg&hash=91e27e183378ad1457b66d656f97136090df48ca)

Even further south, we have a suburban square surrounded by middle class worker's homes. These homes are some of the most popular in Pense, with nice gardens and always friendly neighbors.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg254.imageshack.us%2Fimg254%2F5629%2F72963600.jpg&hash=a18bfc0481db75147ed5edc284f779e39e26e662)

Moving to the west, we find ourselves at Canton Square. This square is a frequent destination for artists and hippies alike. Canton is still known as the 'weird' area, with eclectic mixes of people and ethnic markets supplying Pense's minority population with their native foods. It is truly a wonderful area, with the square being the focal point. In the past, it has been the site of many rallies and protests. Overlooking the square is the Callinger Communication Tower, which provides views of the entire metro area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg195.imageshack.us%2Fimg195%2F5371%2Fcantonsq.jpg&hash=7e55fa118ad93225f374ec4f5cc5839145cb079b)

West of Canton and north of Mayvale Park we have just an older neighborhood, with tall, public housing projects. Here is where most of Canton's struggling artists live, unfortunately.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg542.imageshack.us%2Fimg542%2F5582%2Fwestsq.jpg&hash=505221c4c67ccfd9f048254d663ea4d017ce6cea)

Northwest of Canton we have St. George Church. It is a gorgeous church sitting on Westhill that looks over the central area, and is open to the public 5 days a week. Many locals take the stairs up to its observation deck, but the observation deck is a well kept secret for locals, so keep quiet.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg838.imageshack.us%2Fimg838%2F5446%2Fdomwmt.jpg&hash=94f55c6bbc3af17453e2764c6e5afa6b4b11f5c3)

Lastly, we have Farley Square, in the St. George Hill neighborhood. This neighborhood is very exclusive and is home to many socialites and businessmen.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg833.imageshack.us%2Fimg833%2F2403%2Fstgeorgesq.jpg&hash=e045ae898a2d780613bf5b4967b68f5c9b9c6781)

And of course, could not leave you all without a region view. I do not believe much has changed, but I believe it is part of my update policy now to not leave you all without a region view.  :P
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg339.imageshack.us%2Fimg339%2F6562%2Flargefc.jpg&hash=cd7f41531165b073a4f5284c84126ba69edc350a)

I would also like to mention that this is my last update before I leave for Europe. I'm going to be in Barcelona, and from there I am getting on a cruise that will take me to Monaco, many parts of Italy, Greece and Istanbul. Hopefully I will come back with more inspiration for my future city building. I will be off for about 2-3 weeks, starting Wednesday and I will miss you all. Well hey there everyone. Great to be back to the community! I have missed you all and look forward to checking out updates. I am pleased to see that I am now on OSITM and I was a number one MD on Ben's Top Ten. Maybe I should go away more often  ;). Anyway, the Mediterranean was absolutely awesome, so much history making my hometown of LA looking like a newborn baby. Barcelona, Rome and Istanbul were especially inspiring. For my European natives here in the community, I am very jealous of your beautiful cities. Overall, all the history and touristy places I have seen have inspired me to incorporate more tourist areas in Pense. Well, an update will be coming soon. I am hoping to have an exciting month of July with cool updates.

Title: Re: Pense; Travelling Here Part I
Post by: WannGLondon on July 08, 2012, 12:57:46 PM
Thanks Cathy and Vortext  :)

Another update.

Pense is a very exciting city. It contains a lot of historical buildings along with beautiful parks, squares and people. Its culture is second to none, with ethnicities from all around the globe residing here, (an Indian area update to come later  ;) ). Pense is also one of the most visited cities around the world and travelling here is a piece a cake. With abundant public transportation, a tourist should not have any problem navigating throughout the city.

This is the first of a series of updates about travelling to Pense. This update will specialize in getting to Pense, while the other updates will focus on Pense's most popular sites. Come visit!

If you are not a regional traveller, you will likely arrive at the expansive Callomine Int'l Airport, located about an hours drive from the Central Area. It has many terminals and gates, and is also a hub for many airlines. From the airport you can catch a bus, or the subway and take it into the city. The subway is cheaper than a bus, but unfortunately you may not be able to see all the sites on your way into the city like a bus would offer.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg829.imageshack.us%2Fimg829%2F1523%2Fcallomine.jpg&hash=e1a286e5f8ca54c7bbff3bbdd709107e99c2dd23)

A ten minute walk, or a two minute shuttle ride from Callomine Int'l you can make your way to Farbank Terminal Station. This rail station provides a quick express service to Tower Railway Station located in the central area. It is the most popular way to travel into the central area for tourists. The express trains can take you into the city in 30 minutes along with great views along the way.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg715.imageshack.us%2Fimg715%2F8185%2Ffarbankterm.jpg&hash=13742b6c131b7f1d0ccf75a4a24433de6d1aa915)

If one is a business traveller, just a short walk from the airport are many hotels, if you prefer to be away from the central area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F8224%2Fcallhotels.jpg&hash=c6ea43b7ace7bbe2e2f1bb1b545a7d0ffd6dac3e)

To central area from Callomine average fares:
By taxi: 45 dollars
Bus: 1.50 dollars (but makes many stops)
Subway: 3 dollars for a one-trip pass
Highway: Free, but beware of traffic, and highway will not take you all the way into the central area
By Tower-Farbank Express train: 15 dollars for 2 people
Water Ferry: 30 dollars for 4 people, but takes a long time

Now if may be afraid of flying, or are just simply a land traveller, these railway stations will benefit you.

Starting in the west corner of the central area is Canton-Westhill Terminus. This terminus is most beneficial to people arriving from western parts of the city or just plain westerly areas by land. It is literally across the street from eclectic Canton and its different galleries and hotels.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F6281%2Fcantonwesthillterm.jpg&hash=0dd4bed42c4ddf64ee9c6723a3fb3c4b5159e1cd)

Moving northeast, here is St. George Station. This terminus is one of the oldest stations in Pense and probably its most grand. Royals tend to arrive to Pense from here and it is only a five minute ride on the subway to the business district and Bank Court. It is the main terminus for northern travellers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg266.imageshack.us%2Fimg266%2F5586%2Fstgeorgeterm.jpg&hash=e2764652ac7d326ba65bdbeb1f7ee6c4bd615f3d)

Moving to the east of the central area is the famed Tower Cross Terminus. This is the oldest railway station in Pense, and is the final station for the Tower-Farbank Express from Callomine Int'l Airport. It is a 15 minute cab ride into the business district from here, but most travellers take the subway from here. My only warning for travellers that arrive here is watch out, because there are many commuters that arrive here so foot traffic is heavy and the station is crowded at all times of the day, which attract pick pockets.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg19.imageshack.us%2Fimg19%2F5374%2Ftowercross.jpg&hash=c99be70e61b1d4ecf736b95bcb91d3c0e33f72da)

Moving into the business district is the Eastland Grand and Pense Central Terminus. These stations are very popular with locals, but are frequently used by wealthy tourists wanting to be closer to upscale hotels. These stations are less crowded than Tower Cross, especially on weekends. Taxis are abundant outside the doors of each station, but taxi drivers tend to charge much more when travelling from here, because of the amount of traffic that is located in the surrounding area.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg18.imageshack.us%2Fimg18%2F2235%2Fcentraltermini.jpg&hash=1edbefcad671e2bb97588cf8cc06393cb4e20fec)

South of the river and the business district is the famous Cross Haven Terminus. Cross Haven is a frequent of tourists and of southern Pensites. Like Tower Cross, it does have many commuters travelling from here, so beware of crowds. The surrounding neighborhood is rich with history, but it is advised that you do not arrive at this station at night, muggings have been reported by many tourists here at night. (Not meant to detract you from travelling to Pense, just being honest).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg692.imageshack.us%2Fimg692%2F3774%2Fcrosshaventerm.jpg&hash=bac5732f7b4a36cd7ae4e4a4b97e4b05e910b7bd)

These are some railway tracks leading toward Cross Haven, coming from the south, west and east. These tracks slice through some beautiful neighborhoods.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg576.imageshack.us%2Fimg576%2F4110%2Ftraininto.jpg&hash=7d512d6de29f228fdd2a1a631d09e5b78c6bc00e)

Lastly, you may travel by ferry up the mighty LaRoujse River all the way from Callomine into the central area and beyond.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg208.imageshack.us%2Fimg208%2F4339%2Frivercentral.jpg&hash=e4770363fd539796052564be9752e28a4e391c10)

Now this may not be a region view per say, but here is just a quick shot of the central area's transportation map.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg837.imageshack.us%2Fimg837%2F7166%2Ftranspo.jpg&hash=1e82c562a2a4b104831316f306e4891d14cc4af4)

Hope I see you all back for Part II. As always, please leaves comments or criticism below.

You know, I really like the update... and Im happy to see you around again. I see that this update has a more turistical, yet inner city pics... Now, I was amazed by the amount of progress made on Pense... congratulations!!

BUT! there is something that really caught my eye... and I hope you take it as constructive criticism... how come there is no highway parallel to the river in the downtown area?? I mean, there are a lot of bridges... but what if people travel "around" the north side? there is no highway or avenue... I know this is no London recreation, but since you are basing Pense on it... well I thought you would make something fairly similar along the river bend :-[

Oh well... that just me on criticism... I really enjoy our conversations... and commenting on your MD... by the way... CONGRATS ON OSITM!!!

Nice update  &apls

Airport, tracks, stations, and map look really nice.

Is taking the motorway really "free" though? An investigation into the costs of owning and fueling a car (not to mention insuring and maintaining) in London might be in order--not to mention a congestion zone fee if Pense replicates the real-world city  ;D

Hey Criss, thanks for commenting. Well, a lot of European cities do not have highways connecting into the central area, probably due to the old, historic buildings being in the core of these cities, making it hard for highway construction to go on and I wanted to emanate that in Pense. And thanks for my congrats.. haha.

Yeah, I understand. I have never really been great at creating airports. Never really put enough time into making really great ones, but they look good from afar I guess haha. Thanks for your comment though.

Another update.

In this update, I will be highlighting the areas where many tourists stay when vacationing here.

Starting off just north of the river, southeast of the financial district, is what is commonly known as the "Hotel District". This area has many moderately priced hotels and has great access to all of the eastern central area's delights. Some of these hotels can be on the expensive side due to the proximity of the river and wonderful restaurants. (Please excuse the parasailer -____-)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg823.imageshack.us%2Fimg823%2F2262%2Friverbankhotedist.jpg&hash=f3d1aa6595c0e929b7b912a1790abf8b252de435)

On the south side of the river is the Lemgate Crown Hotel. This building has stood in Pense for a very long time and has served as a hotel for over one hundred years. It can be quite pricey, but has wonderful views of downtown and the river from its many suites.

Near to the financial district is Teyford Square. This square has many hotels around it, but these hotels are commonly used by business travellers. Many of the hotels are near to beautiful landmarks like the Central Pense Guildhall (the reddish-roofed building).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg232.imageshack.us%2Fimg232%2F4806%2Fteyford.jpg&hash=6e2b185e29abaf2ff298c99d1b2320615d411c5a)

Just east of Teyford Square is Downing Square and its expensive hotels. The hotels surrounding the square are some of the best in the city. With beautiful Downing Square just outside many of the hotel's doorsteps, these hotels make for a great honeymooners place to stay. One can visit the beautiful terraces on the north side of the square or take a peek inside St. Wolburn Church on the west side of the square.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F3012%2Fdowning.jpg&hash=dcc555f021d33b04049422411bd9a05347d67362)

Moving closer to the western central area, we have Porter Circus. This circus is the intersection of May Corridor and Porter Street. The hotels surrounding this intersection are very expensive. Shopping and fashion is abound on May Corridor (the six lane avenue) along with fancy restaurants and beautiful tourist attractions.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg441.imageshack.us%2Fimg441%2F6892%2Fportercirchot.jpg&hash=54e479ff55e368ba76af550a8bf39605b67dec58)

Moving west along the May Corridor we find grand St. May Cathedral, the tallest and largest cathedral in central Pense. Hotels surround its grounds and go for shockingly moderate prices. It is my personal recomendation that any first-time travellers to Pense stay somewhere around here. You are practically in the middle of the central area and subway and bus stations are easily accessible.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg819.imageshack.us%2Fimg819%2F3641%2Fstmayhotels.jpg&hash=59c01b51cfbb9e05ff34e17e3adf64d9969bfd01)

North of St. May and its famous corridor is the area of St. George and Westhill, abutting Canton. Some of these row homes double as B&Bs or have been converted into hotels. Rooms are a little cheaper here, even though the wealthy may have once lived in the home. Beautiful surrounding area and very close to St. George Hill Park.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg827.imageshack.us%2Fimg827%2F6152%2F77389691.jpg&hash=3c3eabfee9178130ceb7bdb9e4cbd36a7fbf2317)

East of Westhill is Canton. These Canton hotels surrounding Canton Square are certainly unique. Walls inside the hotels may be covered with abstract art from local artists and this area is great to stay in if you really want to get that cosmopolitan feel. You can find anything and everything in Canton, which make the hotels in the area high in demand. My only warning is watch out for 'weirdos' on the sidewalks, they can be a little intimidating.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F5371%2Fcantonsq.jpg&hash=61198f72cbd5692d309b8c73581c8897c32bd77b)

Lastly, if the central area isn't your cup of tea, you may always stay in a B&B or Inn outside of the city, like some of these on a Pense high street. Bus stops and subway stations are always nearby.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg51.imageshack.us%2Fimg51%2F8531%2Fhighstinns.jpg&hash=de14117f985a35d3af1b005440c8f2b4159b1450)

Nice update... I liked it... Now tell me Warren, why do you use the Maxis plazas? It would look 10 times better if you instead plopped the ped malls... you know... next to the berliner dom? I think thats the name isnt it? hahaha not good with names $%Grinno$% aaaaaaaaanyways... nice update... as always... I will be starting my own MD soon... just getting everything ready... hope to see you around at it!

Looking mighty fine once again  ()stsfd()

If I may make another suggestion (besides using better fillers ;)) it would be to start using a replacement mod (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26804-maxis-tree-replacement-mod/) for maxis trees (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1901) or at least get rid (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=646) of the palm trees (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=645).

Where did you find the Central Pense Guildhal btw? It is a really nice building, would like to have it in my city as well.

Keep up the good work.

Great update there, and with Vortex' advice, the next will be even better.

I see you have subways, will we be seeing a network overview at some point? Would be interesting to see how you have planned your city's mass transit system.

Hey all, sorry it has been a while since the last update, but that is mainly because I am experiancing an odd problem. When I go to open up Central Pense, the game crashes. All other cities in the Pense region load up and work fine, all but Central Pense. Anyone know any way they could help me? I've had problems like this before when I had mulitple terrain mods in my plugins folder, but I haven't found any issue like that in this case. Help please.
Title: Re: Pense; Travelling Here Part II
Post by: vortext on July 30, 2012, 09:00:08 AM
Most likely there's somekind of conflict going on. Did you make any changes to the plugins folder recently? Or it could be related to transit issues, any changes made on that front perhaps? Either way, we need some more information in order to help.

I am sorry to hear about the problems. Have you made any progress yet?
Title: Re: Pense; Travelling Here Part II
Post by: wallasey on August 07, 2012, 10:37:59 AM
I had that issue a few times...although I normally took the drastic route and started that tile over again having fiddled about in Terraformer...generally the re-build didn't crash.

Not an ideal thing to do I know!

Now, I realize it has been a very long time since I have posted on here, but I just wanted to let you all know that I did get my Central Pense dilemma fixed. I just simply restored it from a backup (thank you Windows 7 ). I have been working diligently on Pense and have completed the densest part of the central area. I really would like to get all areas surrounding the central area finished because I am very excited to plan out the suburbs. Anyway, everything is moving on in Pense swimmingly. It is quite amazing how realistic my city is turning out to be. People are commuting from long ways away just like London, and commercial areas in the central area are not abandoning like I thought they might because so many people are willing to commute anywhere for a job. Another cool thing is Hywater Circus (like London's Piccadilly) has the highest concentration of pedestrian traffic in the whole city, which another awesome realistic factor. Anyway, I'm blathering on, please enjoy the region view.

Thanks for the comments guys, glad you are all happy I did not give up.  :)

Another update.

In this update I will just be showcasing some of my favorite shots that I have taken recently.

This is the North End, with the exclusive neighborhoods of Westhill and St. George, with glorious St. George Park sandwiched between them. The commercial districts in this shot include Canton and Fairing.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg442.imageshack.us%2Fimg442%2F6666%2Fnorthend.jpg&hash=aaa8f13730540f8eda4e1b3ace1e9fe86310b18e)

Moving to the East End we see a vista of the prominent financial district and St. May in the left of the image. I love this shot.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg703.imageshack.us%2Fimg703%2F9812%2Feastend.jpg&hash=299072df2d9879466600610e2eaddb920ef4330d)

And here is the West End. This shot includes the areas of Hywater, Bardwell, Croix Garden and 'The Forum', (which is the area where all the parliamentary buildings are by the river).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg171.imageshack.us%2Fimg171%2F8016%2Fwestendj.jpg&hash=720df003db0e3f46efca2361c8814a22cbe984aa)

Here is a shot of gorgeous downtown, by night.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg651.imageshack.us%2Fimg651%2F6779%2Fdowntownnighty.jpg&hash=c732dad19c73d1477f8fee0943920e04722ae4d9)

This shot is to emphasize how busy Hywater Circus really is, being at the conjunction of two major subway lines.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg689.imageshack.us%2Fimg689%2F4175%2Fbusyhywater.jpg&hash=043b9d843f902a1589fe1a4ce364b0ee985f0230)

And here is Hywater and its environs by night. Bardwell and Hywater have many nightclubs and dance halls.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg6.imageshack.us%2Fimg6%2F2297%2Fhywaterbardwellnight.jpg&hash=0e153e1984c7214e7de1009512e83ff51e6c7cb9)

This shot I like very much because of all the busses.  :P
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F7430%2Fmayvalebus.jpg&hash=de83c13fb1c31e88de3fbbbdfee2b2a3b627b7c9)

This shot was actually taken in Eastern Pense, I really enjoyed watching the train take its journey into the central area. I am truly impressed how realistic Pense is turning out to be, with residents commuting from far, far away by train, subway, bus and car. Either I just became really lucky, or planned my transportation networks out well.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

This is just an update on my region with a cooler shot to make it look more realistic (except for all the neon colors).

The population is about 1 million 700 thousand and the highest demand is for commercial office, low wealth residential, high wealth residential and industrial. There are around 700 thousand jobs and 400 thousand Industrial jobs. I am very happy with how the region is turning out with all of my roads and mass transit being highly used. Central Pense is still bustling and right now I am trying to add some more towers to the skylne with the high demand in office jobs. Anyway, goodbye for now.

Thanks Swordmaster.

And thank you all for the comments. You all truly make me and my city feel special.

Another update.

This update willl highlight the mass transit in Pense. I take great pride in my mass transit and just love to watch all the automata roam around and criss cross my city. I have truly tried to make the mass transit like London, for example having many rail terminis around my central city and subways and railways spreading to the outer reaches of the sprawl. Anyway, here's some shots.

Starting in southern Pense, I was inspired by some videos on Youtube of all the sunken networks in London and so I have actually began to create a lot in the suburban areas surrounding the city. Here is one network near Parling End.

Not exactly a mass transit shot, but a very important area none-the-less, is Queen's Circus. This street is the entry point for many commuters driving in from Western Pense. The circus handles about 10,000 cars every morning and evening and filters into the commercial districts of Bardwell and Hywater.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg96%2F9480%2Fqueencircus.jpg&hash=80465e819185e02451cb841e825377d466e12f8c)

Next we have some trains leaving the financial district taking commuters back to their homes.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg694%2F9629%2Fnighttravel.jpg&hash=a3e7cffd21b5a1619734b3e350931195d414c907)

This is just a shot of the new train skin I am using. This train is making its way into Central Pense while passing an underground station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg22%2F2733%2Fnewrail.jpg&hash=6a1335b9cf081959b79288d44be64f3022b4ca19)

Busy Mayvale Corner handles many busses and cars daily. This has got to be one of the busiest intersections in the city, handling commuters from Western and Northern Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg27%2F7774%2Fmayvalecorner.jpg&hash=6362c5f5c990c5e732c52678a28332b86788b6a9)

In Western Pense we have a risen embankment near Gostingale.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg24%2F8205%2Fembankgreen.jpg&hash=8688c40bd9dce000093db748b0fa103588560f26)

Cross Haven Central Terminal here, the largest and busiest of all Pense's stations.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg90%2F8867%2Fcrosshavencent.jpg&hash=7f18a606aedd722302c5c953d625331d6bdd6684)

Eastland Terminus and Bank Terminus looming over the financial district.

Here I just wanted to show the hustle and bustle that goes on in the financial district.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg32%2F4085%2Fbusydwntwn.jpg&hash=849cc387eb1414b92a1b4af974c98da6507c618f)

Next we have Canton Terminal. This station is also extremely busy handling commuters from western and northern Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg10%2F6338%2Fbusycanton.jpg&hash=06b709d2c3a4fdf88874f376df6e2303abbd9ce4)

Here is a busy rail bridge before the new train skin was added. It looks as if those trains are fighting for space.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg51%2F8461%2Fbusybridge.jpg&hash=6b994b0fbb3778c3c60f5165f39f65afdda1ec45)

Here was have the southern bank of the river where two commuter trains are passing through.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg854%2F1528%2Fbusy1o.jpg&hash=d8295d3f9a8b89f32367efcb66a63afab6e36b49)

Busses!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg525%2F3277%2Fbussesstmay.jpg&hash=302d33cb854f72f838ef1446412f5004248e079e)

.....and more busses!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg513%2F3751%2Fbillionsobusses.jpg&hash=8c21ab9fd0f9c65dcc64a1c1530bd0ec0ea1e052)

Lastly, here we have one of my favorite parts of the city, Bank Court. This intersection and its subway station is a hub for the city. The subway station is an intersection for many subway lines, just like its neighbor avenues are a hub for many roads. If you look closely, you may find remnant of the old city wall, which is now a tourist attraction in which one can get to the top of the parapet and look over Bank Court.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg842%2F8445%2Fbcispy.jpg&hash=93c34698ff94dfe6caf9925a7f7a459488194aea)

And, I couldn't leave you all hanging without a region view. Population is about 1,700,000. I am truly trying to get to 7 million inhabitants but it does seem like it will be a challenge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg4%2F2979%2Fpensetforgreaterarea.jpg&hash=46d03116cac1db356a2e0535bb08de095ea1bd21)

The hustle and bustle pic has a familiar ring to it since I like to break out the transit query to see what's going on as well. It's very gratifying when the public transit system actually gets used, so good job!

The sunken networks are very London-esque indeed and that one shot with the open subway station is typical as well. Finally that other pic with the elevated rail junction cutting through the urban landscape is awesome! (13th pic if I'm not mistaken, you should really number the pics. . ;-) )

All things considered a pretty decent update and I'm looking forward to cottages.  ;)

Keep it up!

That's quite a mass transit system you have there, and you chosen your buildings very well, the city looks very authentic. Also, that region shot is fantastic.

Another Update

Today Pense River Cruises decided they wanted to do a little bit of advertising so today, with my permission, they are going to show you a preview of one of their routes from Callomine in Eastern Pense to Brey in Western Pense. The journey is quite long, but has wonderful views and interesting history. Hope you all enjoy!

1. We start at Hark Beach. This area does not have a terminal for the cruise boat yet, but one is planned on being built in the near future.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg443%2F6180%2Fharkbeachcallomine.jpg&hash=d7ba012f145b441be24dbc7e942a182925c5dddf)

2. As we embark on our journey we ride past Callomine Int'l Airport and its control tower. This tower seems very overwhelming and can be seen all over the metro area. The tower is even taller than some of Central Pense's skyscrapers.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg696%2F1421%2Fcallominetwr.jpg&hash=dc64b704d301af380a86c163c170e2eb18ec4006)

3. We then come up to Gardelle Pool. Gardelle is a suburban neighborhood in eastern Pense with quiet streets and an abundance of parks. Gardelle sprang up when Apperston Wharf and surrounding industrial areas were developed.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg545%2F9076%2Fgardellepool.jpg&hash=900b70e1e09a191aa61d47745e20ad11af6ae28d)

4. Next we come to Apperston Wharf. This area was developed in the late 20th century to provide for a booming population. Just like Canary Wharf in London, it was used long ago as a industrial port area, but now houses world famous businesses and features a light cruise terminal too.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg405%2F6320%2Fapperston.jpg&hash=95b2536892f94aa5d8287c1e4b7a994d59df3726)

5. Just north of Apperston we have Fenbridge Pool and Fenbridge Stadium, locally known as "The Bridge".
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg19%2F687%2Ffenbridgepool.jpg&hash=0526a3ffcd974d8429361803339ce8abb5942307)

6. Making our way west, we can see the Bow Turnpike to the north and straight ahead you can view the glorious skyline of Pense.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg51%2F9606%2Fbowturn.jpg&hash=78da4d583a1b474c3bb42e4abc31ddbe4b416b30)

7. Here is the last view of Eastern Pense with Parbroke to the south and Barport East to the north.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg109%2F6051%2Flasteast.jpg&hash=db944de80d1416606532c790037329c64df30154)

8. And now our river boat enters the very commercialized Central Pense. Seems like a very drastic change from what we have been riding through. On the north side of the river we see Tower Cross and Barport. The Lemgate Bridge spans this part of the river. This area is one of the oldest parts of the city, but some of the older buildings along the river have been demolished to make way for more commercial jobs to supply Pense's population.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg35%2F332%2Ftowercrosslemgate.jpg&hash=0a75551594e744494ea3cba8a4037e333bbd4bc9)

9. Even further west we now have Cross Bridge and my favorite part of the river. On the northern embankment we have hotels and big banks and on the southern embankment we have St. Haven Cathedral and service-based businesses.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg341%2F7450%2Fcrossbridge.jpg&hash=618d3819a7dc6696040033aeb57408b2d1058e1d)

10. Next we come to Asting Hall and its bridge. Across from Asting Hall is Cross Haven Central Railway Terminal.

11. We the come to Asting Pool. The greenery along the northern embankment is Croix (Croy) Gardens. The gardens are a beautiful refuge for business-people and tourists alike. The gardens also provide wonderful views of the river and Cross Haven. Pull out your cameras for a wonderful shot of the old parliament building too!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg820%2F555%2Froyalsk.jpg&hash=1fd31a58ba1dc06b5aa11f8ad6f65cdb7114ddfc)

12. South of the old parliament building we pass some large buildings and St. Corring Bridge.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg42%2F5132%2Flwrparliament.jpg&hash=5c2b00ccc1cfda84a2f03da18a6eeb3b527af958)

13. We now ride past Hale Yard and the remains of its old palace. This palace was once a grand manor, but could not withstand the test of time. Only one part of the palace still remains and is a glorious museum. The yard itself is a frequent to many tourists wanting to soak in the sun on some of Pense's warm days.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg854%2F984%2Fhalepool.jpg&hash=e3a1a7fe64bfbe2259602485a3ca9377ed0378b6)

14. We then pass under Hale Bridge, the gateway to southern Pense and a main artery that is truly a lifeline to those that reside in southern Pense. It is one of the busiest bridges in the entire city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg341%2F7817%2Fhalebridge.jpg&hash=3690baade5d0eb347a5d30e3d627283e90bdc14d)

15. And here is the last part of central Pense, Morrow Bridge. Truly, a stunner.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg842%2F4650%2Fmorrowbridge.jpg&hash=757509711ed51dfa964c87b316508afe12592b54)

16. Into western Pense we find ourselves at Bellford Reach and its expensive riverside mansions.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg839%2F6064%2Fbellford.jpg&hash=d376162c8993cfd2f03d9e9c379fcdc34d007fb5)

17. Lastly, we end our trip at Brey, with the palace of the same name. The palace is a wonder, providing gorgeous views down the river into the central area.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed the trip, here is a shot of the route we took today, highlighted in red.

Not sure if the embankment looks the way you intend it, with the terrain cutting into it.

Excellent update! I particularly like the idea of the river cruise. Pense is both impressive and very, very , believable. The region views show just how much effort this must have taken....although how do you keep the demand going without agriculture in the region?

Thank you very much, Matt. Well I just make sure and supply what type of job is needed, whether it is commercial office or dirty industry. Although, I should probably start zoning agriculture because the job market is getting a little slim in Pense.

Thanks for the comment, but I actually do like the seawalls cutting into the land, adds a nice 'tidal' effect and makes it seem like the city is in control of the river and not the other way around.  :)

I was just looking back on some of my older posts in this MD and have just been shocked about how much progress I have actually made. I used to know so little about the much-adored London and now I feel as if I could hold a seminar about the wonderful metropolis. Well, as I have learned, Pense has gotten much better and more realistic and I just wanted to post a comparison pic of how the city used to look, and how it looks now;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8019%2F6973353790_1f3a1332ca.jpg&hash=923123c93333acc5331570de03da2e5dd1341345) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/79345895@N05/6973353790/)

And..

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fa%2Fimg685%2F5287%2Fcaptureobg.jpg&hash=8f0be61ad701ee4df05510b7fdbf1197cd580f91)

Crazy right?! I cannot even fit the current city into one picture. Happy with the progress I have made and with the way my current Pense has turned out. Could not have done it without all of everyone's comments, compliments and support. Thank you.

Unfortunately I've never been able to build such a fantastic region, which makes it even more interesting to look at - and I will definitely come back here from time to time  :) Been to London once but still have the urge to go back.. someday maybe.

Keep it up,
Fabian

It's easy to see why you feel happy about Pense and it's progress; it's simply awesome!! Really, this might be the best metropole I've seen to date and I'm hoping to see it extend even further in 2013!

Also, if you wish to see the entire region (and thus city), the region census (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=913) is the proper tool for just that.  ;)

Hello All,

Very happy to hear from you. I thought I should let you all know, this is not the original Pense from long ago when I was very active on the forum. You see, I spend quite a bit of my time (embarrassingly enough) studying London using Bing Maps, Youtube, books I have at home, tv shows and many other forms that you can think of. As a result, I am constantly trying to perfect what I have created in SimCity 4 (Pense: based off of London).

Luckily, I think this will be my final Pense. I am extremely satisfied with how it is turning out. I have made sure to set aside time to make Pense just the way I like it, without rushing through it. Pense is currently at 2 million + residents and works actually very realistically. Many commuters make their way into the central area on trains, underground, buses and cars. My financial district is the most commuted-to place in the region, with my subway stations in that area rising above 100,000 people using daily. I am still having a hard time with abandonment in the outskirts of the city, but continue to tackle this issue with adding industrial estates and town centers (to try and keep my city as realistic as possible).

Everything is naturally grown, except for the landmarks of course. Anyway, enough with the rant. Here is the latest region view;

Great region view! I like how there is one consistent urban area where the tile boundaries are now prevalent. This is something I struggle with all the time!

Do have town centres, London (and all the other UK cities) grew rapidly in the Industrial Revolution and quickly swallowed up smaller villages and hamlets. These would become throbbing shopping streets which would sustain the residential areas around it. Typically these would be on the main radial routes.

For added realism, you may find larger industrial estates on the periphery of your urban areas, but also in valley bottoms following watercourses and also railways. Newer warehousing units tend to be constructed on land sold off by the railway board.

I'd also recommend Flickr as a source. I'm sure there are many London based groups that don't focus on the landmarks.

If you can track down "Hidden History of Our Streets" on Youtube that may help. Peter Akroyds documentary on London from circa 2005 may also help.

Keep it up!
