Welcome to my new Mayor Diary...
The Empire of Leviathan

In this MD I'm going to show you the Empire of Leviathan.
Since my old MD (Laon (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6332.msg223201#msg223201)) was doing pretty well, I decided to start a new one. As some of you know, my old MD was fully lotted. This was pretty time-consuming, so I thought it would be better to do a MD where only parts or only important places are lotted (for example the "Schlossplatz").
When we were discussing different enlighteners in history class, we also talked about Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan. I do not "support" his idea - I just liked that name of the book, which is named after a sea monster from the Old Testament of the Bible, by the way.

The Empire of Leviathan is located in the North and Middle of Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg86.imageshack.us%2Fimg86%2F5051%2Fweltkarte.png&hash=22aa90f8739637c848dd2957abb87029aa87539b)

Below you will find the Table of Contents and a Dictionary.
This Dictionary has two different sections. The first section is "Tourist  attractions". This section leads you through the many attractions the Empire of Leviathan has to offer. It's worth a mention that it is sorted by cities. The second section is "Cities". This section lists the different cities that were mentioned in the MD so far.

The Dictionary:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tourist attractions:

Laon:

  • Chancellery: The Chancellery is the office of the chancellor of Leviathan. It was built in 1834 as a palace for state-guests. When the old Chancellery burned out in 1944, the chancellor decided to move his office to the former palace for state-guests. The burned out Chancellery has been rebuilt in 2004 and is used as a Museum at the moment. There are plans to use the current Museum as the Chancellery again.
  • Hauptbahnhof: The Laon Hauptbahnhof is one of the two big railroad stations in Laon-Mitte. It was built in 1879 together with the city hall of Laon. Unlike the other big railroad station (Veburger Bahnhof) the Laon Hauptbahnhof is a terminus station.
  • Rathaus: The Laon Rathaus is the city hall of Laon, the capital of Leviathan. It was originally constructed in 1879 but got destroyed in the 2nd World War. It was reconstructed in 1965.
  • Reichstagsgebäude: The Reichstagsgebäude was constructed to house the Reichstag (the Parliament of Leviathan) in 1885.
  • Siegesplatz: The Siegesplatz is a plaza in Laon-Mitte. It was built in 1880 after the independence war of 1873.
  • Stadtschloss: The Laon Stadtschloss is a palace in the district "Mitte" of Laon. It is the residence for the King if he's visiting his capitol city. Unfortunately the King rarely visits Laon, since he spends most of his time in a castle, that is laying far away from Laon. He personally hates big cities, so he prefers to stay on his rural castle. Because of that, the interior ministry occupies most of the Stadtschloss (just some rooms are left for the King and his servants). The Stadtschloss was built around 1850.
  • Stadttor von Laon: The Stadttor von Laon is an old city gate, marking the former border of Laon. It was built in 1824.
  • Veburger Bahnhof: The Veburger Bahnhof is one of the two big railroad stations in Laon-Mitte, even though it's capacity is not as high as the capacity of the Hauptbahnhof. It has one advantage though: Unlike the Hauptbahnhof, the Veburger Bahnhof is not a terminus station.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cities:

  • Erhaven: Erhaven is a rather small city, northeastern from Laon. It was once famous for it's port - nowadays the statue near the river is one of the most famous sights in Leviathan.
  • Laon: Laon is the capital of the Empire of Leviathan. With an estimated population of 3.863.200, Laon is Leviathan's biggest city. It was first mentioned in 980.
  • Veburg: Veburg is a small city with merely 2000 inhabitants, laying approximately 20km away from the city center of Laon. Veburg lays on a small island and is known for it's beautiful half-timber houses.

Update #1 - From the Parliament to the City Hall

So... this is Update #1.
Below you will see a mosaic which was taken in Leviathan's capitol city: Laon (yeah I could not stop using that name, somehow  :D).
On the top you will see the Parliament and on the bottom you can see the City Hall (on the left) together with the main railroad station (on the right).

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg83.imageshack.us%2Fimg83%2F9782%2F11082469.jpg&hash=3c8341d34cbb3fcc13efcc5662e7bd6c441aea37)

Looking forward to your replies.
Please tell me how you like the adjustment of the colors (Is it to "grey"? Is it to dark? Does it look more or less real?  ... and so on).

Fabian

It all looks amazing! This is one of the quality MDs I always like to see. Can't say anything else about it. Great work!

oh, and the colours are good.

Wonderful start!  &apls And I think the adjusting of the colours is excellent, there's no need to change it. ;) Looking forward to more!

Great Balance of wide avenues and narrow(er) side roads.

I do like the "old" buildings with some modern ones in between and what you did with the backyards. Only the one with the white plaster and JeroniJ's next to that bigger modern corner building in the upper part of the mosaic looks a bid sterile to me... dunno ... &Thk/(

The plaza between the Gar Du Nord and the "Rathaus" in Generell looks nice - rather spatious :). What I miss however - especially there but also on the rest of the area - are Misc. Transports - Busses, Subway, Light Rail, GLR, you name it. Such a big station  normally bundles a lot different lines of all types ...

Anyway - overall a great start!  &apls

Take care!

Bernhard

That is a fantastic mosaic  ;D and a nicely laid out, low-rise city!  The enhancements to the picture are well done and not overdone.

I like those low-rise blocks with the open areas on the interiors. Very well done, not to mention the photoshopping is as well. Great job!

Glowbal: Thanks a lot! Glad you like the colors.
CraigKingOfIreland: Thank you! It's always great to hear that.
io_bg: Thanks  :).
Nardo69: Thanks. Yeah you're probably right with that plaza, but I think it matches the surroundings quite well. And yes you're right: Misc. transport is really missing, but it's a little bit too late to change that. But I'll try to change at least a little bit. I hope you like the proposed area for a transportation hub (see mosaic #3). Glad you like it overall.
Sciurus: Glad you like my LE work  :). It is pretty time-consuming but in the end it's worth it, isn't it :-\?
sumwonyuno: Thank you  ;).
art128: Glad you like it Arthur. It's the first time I have a MD together with you in one section  :D, but I see you're almost a Best Seller (at least soon  :P).
jmyers2043: Thanks, good to hear you like the adjustment of color.
jimbo_jj: Thanks a lot, James! Glad you like the photoshopping (elements)  :P.
Thomas Neto: Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the mosaic.

A beautiful city and very coherent architectural style--a great start and I'm glad I found this MD

My only comment is the photos, though very well done, are too black in the shadows. but this is very minor--wonderful work!

Very nice i like it a lot but in my opinion the aquarium doesn't fit in and the white maxis textures would look better as the grey concreate as it would be more fluid but it still looks great

These mosaics are looking great! I like that last one especially. I like how you used all those wall to wall buildings. You're doing a great job of producing a European city atmosphere (though I suppose you would have an advantage over me, seeing as you are European  :P). Keep it up, and I look forward to what's next!

Great update Fabian, these mosaics are awesome. I really love the overview, we can see that your city is beautiful. (BTW, I prefer the overview)
The empty grass space in front of the chancellery is a great touch, it make it looking even more realistic. I like the paved area in the overview, it make it looking like a historical center, even thought the historical center can be behind the walls.
take care,

Update #3 - From the Siegesplatz to the Broadcasting Center of Leviathan

In the 3rd Update I will show you the area between the Siegesplatz and the Broadcasting Center of Leviathan  :).
As you can see, I have added a border for the mosaic - I'll keep doing this in the future updates, too. Hope you like it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg12.imageshack.us%2Fimg12%2F707%2F96092441.jpg&hash=decc26a9be6166062a5d89a3aeff5b762a8ac191)

In the next update we will visit Veburg, a small city, which is laying about 20km away from Laon, with merely 2.000 inhabitants.
Hope you enjoyed Update #3  :).
Now I will test out the demo of Cities XL! I expected a lot of that game, but from what I've heard so far, it is not that good  ()sad().

gottago: Thanks for your comment  :). I don't know what to do about the black shadows and I think I will keep it the way it is, thanks for the criticism, though.
6underground: Thanks! Glad you like it  ;).
tankmank: Thanks a lot! Hm, I don't know, but personally I like the texture I use now more, than the Maxis texture.
ponnie: Thanks. Glad you would like to live in it  ;D.
djvandrake: Thanks a lot  :).
jimbo_jj: Maybe I would have an advantage in a smaller city, but I have to look at pictures of bigger European cities, since I'm living in a city with only 27.000 inhabitans. Glad you like it  ;).
soulchaser: Glad you like the medieval wall, this is something I like a lot, too. But actually most of the buildings are grown  ;), I just plop the diagonal buildings and some landmarks. The rest is grown with a lot of patience.
art128: Thanks for your comment, Arthur. Always great to hear such words. I will show you some more of the paved area in a future update (but personally I don't like it that much, since it is a pretty plain area. I'll have to work on that).

Great work as always! &apls May I ask which is the train station you've used?
Title: Re: Empire of Leviathan
Post by: Nardo69 on September 09, 2009, 02:52:09 PM
Hi Fabian!

You did go on the way you started!  &apls

The first mosaic in Update 2 reminds me a bit of the castle of Bruchsal where the railway line cut off a part of its garden. The main difference is that the axis castle of Bruchsal (German wiki (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruchsal), English Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruchsal)) is upright to the railway line and not parallel to it like your chancelary.

I like those railways and sidings there. As good as you can use the LE you could electrify the two main lines by editing a lot from the soundwalls. ;)

I like the Siegesplatz but IMHO a counterpart to the statue is missing there.

Veburg looks nice. However I think you should've done that large 180° curve with the smooth curves from the NAM. In addition to this I know only terminal loops at such big railway stations from the TCDD but not within Germany. Anyway ...

Those timber frame houses look nice but I stopped using them as you cannot put them as close to each other as necessary to come close enough to RL.

Hope that wasn't too negative - I just love and see details ...  ::)

Take care

Bernhard

Small city but with a big rail road layout !  :P
The siding ways are well done and the city center of Veburg looks quite nice with that train station. Although, I'm not really fan of your choice of Police station, that one (awesome BTW) doesn't looks good here with the rest of the old houses of the town center. The small one by Matt325 is also in corner and will looks better that this one IMHO.
Without that little detail, excellent work Fabian !
Take care,
-Arthur.

Update #5 - More from Laon-Mitte

In this update you get to see a huge mosaic, which begins at the Veburger Bahnhof (even though you'll only see the rails  :D) and goes down to the Parliament building.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg200.imageshack.us%2Fimg200%2F6339%2F56235716.jpg&hash=cb495e2f03a7145ca8991829c94f5c8cb6107505)

In the next update we will visit the port of Laon. The port is still under construction but I certainly wouldn't say that it's uncompleted.
Hope you enjoyed this update and thank you so much for the many replies to Update #4  :).

io_bg: Well I've already answered you that question  :P, but for anyone interested: You can find it here (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=18184).
Nardo69: Thanks for your reply, Nardo  :). It's always great to read such additional informations. I had a look at the place in Google Earth, and yes it has some similarities. And I also agree, that they (the timber frame houses) are not close enough, to make it look real. But I think the lots look great so I decided to built them in Veburg. I might work on a historic center with a lot of timber frame houses in the future, but for know I will concentrate on building and lotting my capitol city, Laon  ;).
Glowbal: Thanks! Glad you like it  :).
Tomas Neto: Thank you  :).
art128: Hi, I already thought that someone would criticize the police station  :D. Don't you like the building standing there in general or that it's just too big for a police station in a 2000 inhabitants city? If it's the latter - just think of it as a hotel  :P.
djvandrake: Thanks, great to hear that  ;).
Battlecat: Thanks - I hope i can  ;).
peter007: Thanks a lot .
Sciurus: Wow, thanks for that comment. Glad to hear that you think it's ":o :o :o"  :P.

Fantastic!  &apls  First rate mosaic!

Your city looks wonderful with a cohesive style and feel.  And I really like your sunken transoprt corridors, those rail lines especially look very good.

Yeah, the big building (last update) looks too alone with these houses..  ;)

That update is really nice, I loved that mosaic my friend. The rail lines fits in well perfectly. Stunning city building as well as in the previous updates. The commie blocks are nicely done my friend.
Take care,

Nevertheless, well done!

Update #6 - A tad of Laon's port

In this update you get to see two mosaics, which will show you the port of Laon. I might do another update with more pictures/mosaics from the port in a future update. Hope you like it. It was my first try at a port. I already showed some overview-pictures in the "Show us your..." - section.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg87.imageshack.us%2Fimg87%2F2227%2F67817300.jpg&hash=2c712c974a2faf2ad5d199f5f17ea564b27ce19b)

I don't know what I'm going to show you in the next update. Maybe I'll return to Laon-Mitte. I don't know yet.

art128: Thanks Arthur. But please don't think the Empire of Leviathan is communistic. It's neither communistic nor socialistic  ;). But you're right (if you wanted to say that): even though most of the Leviathans are living pretty well, there are still a few poor people, too.
jimbo_jj: Thanks  :).
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot! Yes you're most probably right. Some overpasses should be added. I'll work on that later.

 :o

Incredible update!  That is one of the most stunningly realistic ports I've ever seen!  Everything fits together perfectly.  I don't even recognize some of the lots you're using there, you've done a great job with them.

Did you tweak the perspective on one or both of these shots or are the angles of the port just messing with my mind?  Whatever the case, it all looks amazing!

Fabian, as I already told you in the Show us thread, excellent port my friend. The buildings used fits in well perfectly and everything is nicely placed and done. However, I don't really love the effect on the first picture, it gave a headache..  $%Grinno$%

Wow! Your port areas are very realistic. You really did a good job making sure shipments can get to and from the ships, especially the rail networks and plenty of cranes. The oil refinery? Could hardly believe that was made on this game! Awesome job!

Update #7 - Another Mosaic of Laon-Mitte

Wow! I can not believe how many replies I've got (yes for me this is a lot!).
Thank you so much for your support everybody  &apls.
In this update I will show you some more Laon-Mitte  ;). I hope it doesn't get boring. But Laon-Mitte is the district I'm working on since months and it isn't even completed (Laon-Mitte is supposed to be on one large tile - the whole City of Laon is planned to be on approximately 9 tiles or more [I know it's huge]). Laon-Mitte is also the only district I'm currently working on, so I can't show you more at the moment (except from the port). Please let me hear your thoughts - Does it get boring or would you like to see some variety?
Oh, by the way, I just noticed, that my MD is now one month old  :D (or young).

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg143.imageshack.us%2Fimg143%2F3236%2F67680934.jpg&hash=c65c96398cd359d2a7b84aada5411e056e7960f3)

Okay here's your next question, already  :D.
Shall I show you a huge mosaic of Laon-Mitte (it's without shrinking it 1680x16000 px) or should I show you the Lots I did myself in the Lot Editor and then, how I incorporated them into my city?
Let me know  :). I personally would love to show you some Lots and if there's enough interest I could also upload them.

_maciex_: Thank you! I had huge problems building a good looking refinery. I think I've worked on it 10 times or so and always had to bulldoze it.
sumwonyuno: Thanks a lot! I was not sure how you would think of it. But glad you like it (I think you were referring to the first picture).
io_bg: Thanks a lot Ioan. Glad to see you here so often .
shermankim777: Thanks a lot. Well I don't know what dependencies you are missing. If I remember right there are no dependencies needed for Somy's ports. You can just download them and they are supposed to work, aren't they?
Battlecat: Thanks a lot  :). Yeah, I've tweaked the angle in the first picture, hehe. Hope I didn't confuse you  :P. I don't know if that was an indirect question. But most of the Lots I've used can be found in emilin's tutorial  ;).
silentbreaker: I take your words as a compliment. Thanks a lot. But in fact it's my first port. I've never tried to build a port before and personally I never thought that everybody "loves" my port. I think I've learned a lot from emilin's tutorial: Building a seaport... the hard way. And of course also by looking at the "Show us your seaport/shoreline"-thread  ;).
djvandrake: Thanks a lot. Glad you like it. I plan to extend the industrial area near my port soon.
Sciurus: Thanks a lot Guillaume  :) - Your comments are always appreciated. Glad you like it  :).
art128: Thanks a lot for writing here so frequently and giving such nice comments, Arthur. It is really appreciated. And I hope I didn't hurt you that much with my confusing angle  $%Grinno$% :P.
jimbo_jj: Thanks a lot. I also take this as a compliment, as it really is my first port  :). Glad you like it and I'm even more happy to hear that you see some kind of realism in it.
ecoba: Thanks Ethan. I love Whitefall, Iridar, too. How could I not? - I mean, it's a Hall of Fame MD  $%Grinno$%. Comparing my MD with this fabulous MD is a big compliment. Thanks a lot.
Tomas Neto: Thanks a lot  :). Glad you like it.
hooha47: Thanks! You might have noticed that I use your parking lots a lot. These are awesome, thanks for creating them (had to say this, while I had the chance to  :P).

Hey, the gird !  :P
Excellent developing once again, the trams fit in well perfectly as the rail line. The modern buildings are a nice touch to make that area feeling like a real city scene. The walls are great too, looks like there were an old citadel here before ?!

PS - I go for the Lot Editor too...  ;)

It has been an age since I saw something like this on any of the associated fan-sites. I have been bowled over by what you have shown on here. The rail is brilliant; not many people have perfected it to the extent which you have.

I do agree with djvandrake , you've a very good sense of space & balance , indeed . Your own Lots are particularly good , and as I can see clearly my influence , have to say that I feel half honored half proud of you . We have both our source of inspiration and for sure , Berlin is a great place for inspiration too .
Furthermore , I appreciate your effort to add life to your Lots , my only advice would be to use the Randomwalk props as they are animated and are essential to mix up the groups done with the static Amill  props , adding realism to the crowd ... and more life in game with sounds of a crowd , for your own pleasure .

I'll be there . :)

Update #9 - Places of Interest: Part 1

I know that I started with my series of "Showing my own Lots" in the last Update. But I guess I will start to show interesting sights of Laon (this includes my own Lots, too, as you will see).
I'll start this new series with 6 pictures. You might have noticed that I changed the way I edit the pictures, yet again. Hope you like it.
In addition to that I would like to mention that the "Empire of Leviathan - dictionary", which can be found on Page 1, will give you more informations of certain sights. (I will add the informations of this Update soon).

Hope you liked Update #9. If I'm not writing another Update before I go to Berlin, would it be okay for you, if the next Update is about my trip to Berlin where I will show you lots of pictures of Berlin (it won't be boring, I promise, since I plan to compare my pictures with historic pictures)?

Sciurus: Thanks a lot, Guillaume. I feel quite honored to hear these words, since your first MD (Oldenburg) actually made me posting on SC4D (if you look on my posting history you will notice that my first post was made in your thread ).
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot, I'm glad to hear that  :). And yes I agree, most of the newer buildings in Berlin are quite ugly (you can't compare the Berlin of nowadays with the Berlin before World War 2 anyway). I guess you are from Berlin?
Tomas Neto: Thank you Tomas  ;).
art128: Thanks a lot, Arthur, always great to read from you. I'm glad to hear that you like my version of the Potsdamer Tor in Berlin  :).
Bobbi: Thanks a lot  :).
Glowbal: Thank you :).
djvandrake: Thanks a lot. I'm glad to hear that you like my Lot ;). If I'd know how to find out the dependencies for my Lots I would definitively share some of them.
Badsim: Thanks a lot Cedric  :). I feel really honored to hear these words from you, since it was your MD "Antigone" which inspired me to try working with the Lot Editor myself.
Furthermore I will give your suggestion a try with the Randomwalk props soon, so thank you for that tip .

It all looks very nice. I like the blue-roofed church, seen it before too but it's in a great context here. That one building at the bottom of the last pic looks pretty interesting. Excellent work Fabien!

Wow Fabian, this update is looking really great!  &apls
I love the plaza in the first shot. The textures and props there work really well together.
Furthermore, I like the old European city look that's emanating from these pictures, it looks like this city has a lot of history,
and I really like that in a MD.

Excellent update, Fabian, the feel of a real European and that is really good.
The first picture is nice, I like that plaza, the three statues are a nice touch, as the big fountain. Also as the big paved area and the trees paths. The only thing that isn't really good is that curved 1x1 street at right between those roads, it seems a bit out of place, why not making a roundabout there ?
The church picture is nice too, nice work with the W2W, the mix between the Swedish, Polska and old one is really nice. But it'll be nice to see more variety of roads here, always the same road.. maybe the SAM will make the thing ? I can only say the same with the National Railway picture, also that skyscraper look good there alone like the we can see in many different European cities.
The "Tor" is, as in the last technical update, good. Habitually I don't really love to see blank walls of W2W buildings, but this time they seems to be there, built after the construction of those two palaces. The roundabout statue is a good touch to make looking even more realistic.
Friedrichsplatz is nice, even if the roundabout is note really good there and is cut by the sidewalk of the W2W.. Without that little detail, everything seems to fit in well.
Now as the last picture, my favorite of them. It looks like the "Tor" is just at right of the shot eh ? Good work with these Gallery, museum. The modern one is good looking here, and with those trees behind the three parts at the bottom it make it as a little green space in that big urban area that is your city.
In every update, you managed to make to your pictures an European feeling, that is really really good, I don't know if it's done my the effect you add or simply by your fantastic playing of the game, but good work, every time I come here I see a great European city.
I hope to see a central garden/park like there's in Berlin, like Tiet Garten (not sure of the orthography of it.. ), it will be really awesome to see how you do that.
Take care,
-Arthur.

Wow! You're still getting better; well even better than better  :D

The only thing I have to criticise is the intersection on the first picture, a roundabout would be much better there. Nevertheless the plaza is well done and a nice eye catcher with its red paving! All the other images are just awesome with the great mixture of W2W and open places. I especially like the church - it fits really well there.

And you're absolutely right - I'm from Berlin ()stsfd()

Oh, Fabian,

I looked on your fisrt message you posted here, and effectively, you posted on my thread, and it's an honour for me you know!
To come back on your city: I really like what you do on lotting, it's excellent. But (beacause there's a but), I don't like the place front of the Palast der Republik. The stones are more for little houses than for plazas front of BATs like it.I would also know where you found the big fountain on this same place, because I love it and I would have it to put front of a palace.
Thank you ;)
For your trip to Berlin, I hope to see beautiful pics, beacause I went to Berlin in 2008, and we had the chance to see the Palast der Republik!! $%Grinno$%. It's really a beautiful city, and I hope you'll benefit your trip ;)

Amicalment, Guillaume

Update #10 - From the Museum Of Leviathan History to the Stadtschloss

Hi, today I will present you a last mosaic of my Capital City Laon (at least for now). After that I will switch to more rural cities/towns until my problem is rectified.
I would be glad if somebody can help me since it detains me from working on it  &mmm: Click! (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9092.0)
Any help would be appreciated :).

Hope you liked Update #10!
I will be in Berlin from Friday morning till Sunday evening. I might post my pictures here or in the "RL Pictures Of General Interest" - section.
I shall update this thread when I'm back with a little teaser ;).

jimbo_jj: Thanks a lot James (even though I go by the name Fabian :P) - glad you like it :).
BarbarossaS: Thanks Stijn. I'm glad to hear that and I'm even more glad about the fact that you like that Lot in the first picture :).
Tomas Neto: Thank you Tomas :). Glad to see you here once again.
art128: Wow! Thank you for that long answer, Arthur. I fixed that curve and changed it to a roundabout ;). I know what you mean with that monotonous use of roads. But I'm afraid of changing my roads to streets, since this would allow lesser traffic which would be quite bad for my city. But I'm glad that you like it, it's great to have you here as an extensive poster .
djvandrake: Thanks a lot! Glad you like it ()stsfd().
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot. Glad you like it and it's great to have you here as a frequently poster . And, just like I've written already in the reply to art128, of course I've fixed that intersection.
Sciurus: Thanks a lot Guillaume. Criticism is always welcome here as it helps me to improve ;). Personally I though that these textures (you mean the red ones, don't you) would fit just right in there. But tastes differ of course. And of course I will benefit from that trip (well at least I hope I will :D).
Dreamcat: Thanks! Glad you like it :).
io_bg: Thank you Ioan. It's great to hear that you like that plaza :).

Always that excellent feeling. This update is really nice, good combination of W2W, old and new one, with the historical buildings. The city walls are as usual nicely placed. Now for the critics, The train station fits in well very nicely with the general aspect of your city, but why not opening it in the LE and adding some trains in the hall ? It will be more awesome !  Also, if the railway after the station is electrified, why not electrified the sunken railway too ? I think by opening Jrj's walls in the LE (they are probably in the top of the list) and adding some poles, it might be nice !
Take care,
-Arthur.

Nice mosaic. I see you too discovered the magical effects of putting the image in mirror form. Funny, isn't it?

Great update, can't fault it. I love the parks and plazas, as well as the Old World wall-to-walls mixed in with a little modern development. I do hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

I'm happy that my criticism had helped you to improve you city, and to make it more beautiful as well. So, I'll make you another criticism; you see, the railways on the center of the image, a bit upper than the "Gare du Nord", I find it a bit empty, beacause there's no train, no catenaries, it's sad :'( So if you could embellish it, I'll find it better ;)
For the rest, I find it just wonderful, like the work on LE for most of your administrative BATs, or the transition with tram on road-road-tram-tram on avenue (at the bottom of the pic) ;)

Guillaume

 :o Fabian.....
Now that is one great job on that mosaic.  I really like the sidewalk mod you are using, it just makes the city look so uniform and actually a little more realistic.  I wish you were able to catch a train on the tracks where the bridge is.  That would have just put the icing on the cake for me.
Fantastic work!  &apls

Very nice mosaic with its unique european feeling! However I somehow dislike the rails in the middle cutting right trough the heart of the city; they look somehow dead - a tunnel would be much better imo or at least some trains making the rails more alive for the screenshot ;D Nevertheless your mosaic is truely a masterpiece! Update #11 - City of Erhaven

First: Wow! 14 replies (and so many new faces in this MD) - that's a new record for me here ;D.
I recently went to Berlin for 3 days and in the last week I had to write two tests (one of it 4 hours long and it doesn't get better in the next weeks), so I didn't have a lot of time to play the game or so.
But ok, here I am with a new update. This update shows you the City of Erhaven. It is a rather small city which is surrounded by farms and fields. I'm not that good at doing those fields and so on - but I'm improving (in my opinion).
Hope you like it anyway and sorry for that rather small Update, but as I said... I had not much time.
And if you want to see a few pictures of my trip you may want to click here:

danielcote: Thanks a lot, Daniel :). New writers in this MD are always welcome.
art128: Arthur, thanks a lot for your constructive criticism - adding some trains to the hall sounds like a fantastic idea. However, I once added those overhead lines but the pack I downloaded only included overhead lines  for one, two, four and five rails, but not for three rails somehow?! I don't know, I might have to look at it once again .
joelyboy911: Yeah :D. I think a mirrored picture looks way more real; maybe because of the angle. Well, I try to follow the tips given in that other thread. I hope to fix it soon ;).
BarbarossaS: Thank you, Stijn - glad you like it :).
Sciurus: Thanks a lot Guillaume :). To the catenaries: As I've already written to Arthur, I can not find catenaries for three rails, somehow and I somehow have problems placing diagonal catenaries in the center of my city. But I agree with that missing train: I guess (after looking at it again) it would have looked better ;).
rooker1: Thanks a lot, Robin ;). I really appreciate your nice comment and I'm glad that you like it :).
sumwonyuno: Thanks a lot :). I guess I have to try it out - until now I had not time to try it out &mmm.
Tomas Neto: Thanks a lot Tomas :), for being the 100 poster - it is really appreciated.
silentbreaker: Thanks :)! It's always great to read your comments here - I'm glad you like the recent mosaic. Maybe it might look odd (the rails cutting thorugh the city) but I somehow think that it's easier to control and it might add a little bit more detail to the city. However I guess that is just a question of taste .
jimbo_jj: Thanks a lot James - glad you like it :).
Earth quake: Thank you ;).
djvandrake: Thanks a lot, once again. It's great to hear that you like it :).
Battlecat: Glad you like it, thanks! I recently saw a region picture of yours - I must say, I'm impressed of the way you put those fields together. There's a real "flow" in it (if you can say that). I hope I can learn something from it, since I'm currently working on some rural areas ;).
Yan077: Thanks a lot :). Your comment is really appreciated since you really know what the word "real" means in SC4 .

Well your initial farms certainly look great!  Nice update all around here, that's a great park as well.  Looking forward to seeing more.

I've found with rural areas that it helps a lot to avoid huge numbers of perfectly square farms.  A few is fine since they are the prefered shape by farmers and it is very realistic, but there are hundreds of things that cause the edges of farms to be rounded or curved as you've done in your last update!  Lots of trees helps things out as well!

Excellent update, Fabian. That small town is really well done. I like that park around the houses, it give to the city a bit more of life and realistically. Also, nice work with the fields, they looks quite nice IMO.. But maybe try to use diagonal fillers to make the edges smother. Anyway, good work ! And don't worry about not updating, school is more important that SC4 (or other games.) !  ;)

Hi Fabian!

Sorry that I haven't been around lately but my small one together with the village competition at simforum.de kept me rather busy ...

I do love these pictures. I associate a kind of seventies feeling of the Ruhrgebiet with them.

Nice station on the first picture - and a nice example how to connect freight tracks with side tracks for storing cars!

Great park - I am sure I have the same or similar park somewhere on my harddisk(s) but never was able to use it half as nice as you did. And finally the fields and their borders - so basic so great!

Keep on that great work!

Beatuiful little town! &apls I like its suburban feeling - and I'm a fan of the park you used there ;D
Your farms are quite nice looking, although I don't really llike the maxis farms and use them only in combination with custom farms - however adding trees is always a good idea , although I would recommend to use a broader variety of trees.  ;)

PS: Did you enjoy the Festival of Lights?

Beautiful update! The railyard looks splendid and I love that catenary in the last shot.
I hope you got a little bit of inspiration from your trip to Berlin (not that you need it much, your MD is fantastic as it is  ;))

Congratulations for the OSITM and what a great update--wonderful work!

The farm field in the last photo is just perfect--what is that field or its texture? And the park with the double fountain is perfectly done, and the soccer field as well, and... well I could go on, but really, it is great work and fascinating to look at.  &apls

Update #12 - OSITM

Thank you so much for featuring this MD in this category. I'm feeling really honored :). I'd also like to thank everybody that has written in this MD here so far &apls &apls.
Actually I planned to update this MD already yesterday, but I felt quite bad, due to headaches and a rather strong cold. Luckily everything is getting better know .
I'm currently working on my capitol city... the progress will be shown here soon ;).

Bobbi (x2): Thank you ;).
Battlecat (x2): Thanks for your kind words - I'm glad that you like my first fields - I'm still improving and hope to get better with it, whenever I try to build them :).
djvandrake (x2): Thanks - glad to see you around here so often .
art128: Thanks a lot Arthur :). I will try to add diagonal filler in the future to some fields.
Earth quake (x2): Thanks Vivien ;), it's great to hear that you like the transition.
sumwonyuno (x2): You are probably right with that, but actually that was not my aim :D. I tried to get realistic colors, but maybe I made them too grey in that update, that's also why I changed the colors in this update. Did you like it this time?
Tomas Neto (x2): Thanks a lot, Tomas :).
Sciurus: Thanks a lot, Guillaume :), that link is really appreciated, but those mods won't recognize two parallel raillines and will add catenaries over each railline, instead of one wide catenaries over both.
Nardo69 (x2): Thanks a lot Bernhard :) - I'm glad that you liked those fields.
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot (even though I don't exactly know what you mean with maxis farms, since I'm sure that I didn't use them). And yes I enjoyed the Festival of Lights in Berlin :) - thanks for asking. Actually I didn't even know, that the Festival of Lights was around that time - I was rather surprised when I saw the Fernsehturm (I think it was the first building) being illuminated. Pretty cool I must say. The Gendarmenmarkt (especially with illumination) is probably one of the most beautiful places in Berlin.
io_bg: Thanks a lot Ioan ;) - I'm glad that you like it.
Glowbal: Thanks :).
BarbarossaS: Thanks :)- and yes I got inspired by Berlin. I'm currently working on something which might be even "too inspired" by Berlin.
threestooges: As I've already said: Thank you all so much for featuring this MD in the OSITM section :).
TheTeaCat: Thanks a lot Derry. I'm glad that you like this MD so much :).
ecoba: I think you already did :P - but even if not: it's no problem at all, since it's always great to see some new names in this MD. Thanks a lot, Ethan - glad that you like it :).
gottago: Thanks for your kind words :) - glad that you like it :). I don't know if you asked for them, but I'm sure that you can find these fields on the 3RR Exchange: Click here. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5603.0)

One more fantastic update, Fabian, I really enjoyed to watch it.

The two first picture of that mansion are splendid, nice work with putting the trees, fences and everything together. The third picture is good too, I like that national road, good work with the infrastructures like gas station, little express shops etc.. The pic of the castle looks amazingly real, the same for the pond !
On the second picture from the bottom, that portion of street along the rail and the police station seems out of place, I think a custom lot with security fences will do the tip much more that the street. Also, I think you have to re-LOT some building to add some fences at the back, along the rail line.
Anyway, excellent work in all the way !  &apls

-Arthur.

Another awesome udpate. &apls
The first and second images is really nice; The castle is really superb as well as its domain and I like well the use of the barriers of RRP, which still accentuates the realistic side.
Beside, I really like the third pictures,I really have the impression that it is a real air view.
As always, the city is quite nice and really realistic and I love the eighth picture with the railroad which separates the industrial side of the residential side.
Finally, the suburbs is simply wonderfull.

Beautiful series of pictures here!  That's a lovely meadow around that manor house.  That scene with the stream is particularly appealing although a bit frightening!  I'd be very nervous living below that cliff.   ;)  Anyhow, great set of shots, keep up the great work!

Heh, I always like your pictures.  ;D I meant that the dark colors fit quite nicely with a railyard-industrial area.  The latest pictures are clear and crisp.

Ok, I understand for the mod. So, if this isn't what you, want I don't know if you can find any else. ()sad() Maybe from the SFBT, but I think you must plop the LOT a case next to you rail to have catenaries. Sorry, But I know just those.
Now, come back to your update:
I find it just wonderful, but this time, I'll criticize image after image.
Begin by the first image; I find it's very nice, but one piece of advice, don't plop trees on rock, indeed, they don't grow on rock, except some special trees, but I never saw fir trees growing on rock.
On the second image, all is perfect, except I reproached you on the first image.
The third and fourth pics are perfect, nothing to add.
Let's go now to the fifth image, I think your river is nice, but you put too much flowers next to it, and so, it's a bit unrealistic. Put instaed some herbs, or just a bit flowers but too much as you did there.
Now, the sixth image; The castle is very beautiful, and I know IRL the man who made it, so I can't criticize it $%Grinno$%. I'l reproached you the same thing as on the fifth image, to much flowers front of the entance. Put instead minus flowers and much herbs ;)
The seventh and the heighth images are perfect. Maye the field on the latest image is a bit too steep, I think it would be difficult to harvest something with tractors... $%Grinno$%
I think I finished my criticism and I hope it'll serve you to improve your city and to rend it perfect ;)

Guillaume

PS: congratulations for your entrance to the Of Special Interest this Month &apls &apls

A new awesome udpate  Fabian.  &apls

As usual, the day mosaic is really nice and beautiful. Your city is really perfect, with a good utilisation of the diagonals bats. I recommend you to download other diagonals bats , as those of Krio (available on Simcity Polska) for diversified.
And excellent job in the Lot-editor.

The night mosaic is simply wonderfull and impressive. Bedise, the firework are very well splendid, bravo.
I also recommend you the mod of night of Gizmo (but sorry, I don't have links), for a realistic night view.

Hey Fabian,
First of all, congratulations for your selection into the OSITM !

This are some great wishes to the birthday of SC4D there my friend, good work with these two mosaics. Your big boulevard is very nice, and give a good urban feeling to your city. I like, the little place with the old walls look tower, it make to your city the feel it was here a long time before, like we built it during the the middle ages. The others places are always nice to look around, maybe I'll tell my two cents on the place behind the W2W buildings.. The place itself looks good, in this way, but the statue into it is a bit out of place in my opinion. I mean a statue is to be looked at all time, like the one in front of the parliament. So I think you can move it to another plaza. At the place of that statue, why not adding a self made park ? Anyway, good work with that mosaic.

The night mosaic is good too my friend. Don't worry, the fireworks are nicely done, maybe a bit bigger will do the tip. (also, try to copy some part of a fireworks, to make  a trail after the "explosion" to let show from where it comes in the city. ) I'll do another reproach as well, why there aren't any light on the buildings ? Does it was a blackouts ?  :D Anyway, good work again with that mosaic.

To finish, I really enjoyed watching that update, as much as the others one. You're doing a good work with your MD and I wish you a good Of Special Interest This Month month.  ;)
Regards,
-Arthur.

Update #14 - One last Mosaic of Erhaven

Thank you yet again for so many replies :).
I'm currently working on another rural area. This area will feature several small villages and will be shown in the next update.
Today I will present you a mosaic, which will show you most of Erhaven. I haven't worked on that city tile yet again, so the mosaic itself is a rather old one. Please don't feel offended if I haven't implemented your suggestions yet in this mosaic. I will however implement them in my new rural areas. Hope you like this mosaic, anyway .

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg11.imageshack.us%2Fimg11%2F507%2F95377133.jpg&hash=cb3227a055a8a0434c3d3c823d251681e7dde83f)

As I've already said, the next Update will be dedicated to another rural area, which I personally really like ()stsfd().

art128: Wow :o. It's so amazing to see you posting such a long reply to an update, Arthur. I will think about changing that place, even though I personally thought, that the statue would give the surroundings a nice touch ;). But of course one can argue about that. It's always great to read constructive criticism.
Unfortunately I am not able to install the game update. I don't know why... I'm playing with the original SC4 Deluxe CD, but nightlights just won't work &mmm. So until I find out, what to do, I have to play with lightless buildings, unfortunately...

To get the night light to work you need to have the game patched to version 1.1.640.
Luckily you can get this patch by clicking on the EA Support button at the top of the page.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi201.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa148%2Ftheteacat%2Fpatchlink.jpg&hash=44f6d1aefdb5781504868b8b44902a6c823496ef)

And follow the link  ;D
Hopefully once applied you will have illuminations

You should be extremely pleased with it, the region is so unassumingly beautiful and so harmonious that it is a true pleasure to study and admire.

The only thing that caught my eye in your teaser photo are the white rocks edging the river (which meanders so convincingly through the woods, btw)--there are too many of them for what looks like a very calm river in a basically flat area, and you would expect them to be a more subdued grey in keeping with your rock mod--theoretically, both come from the same geological source  ;)

So, Fabian, some explanations... :D
Your update is wonderful, I particullary love the overview, which is very very impressive.
The work you've done on your differents villages is nice, but, I think you should do (as in real life) an industrial area next to the village, and not in the village. Do you undertsand?
For trees on rocks, yes, you've succedded, I didn't see trees &apls
So, one more time, congratulations for this update &apls &apls

Fabian, I owe you a very large apology...  I really should have stopped by here much sooner!  Your teaser has done its job and I'm definitely looking forward to your next update.  In the meantime, I really enjoyed the look of update #15.   The style is very interesting to me and something I'm not used to seeing.  The smaller pockets of development among the farms look great, but what I really like is how all those little pockets combine to make the whole "town."  I would expect to see them all centrally combined but the way you've scattered the pieces around the farms works very well and gives a lot to look at.   &apls

Wow! You're still getting better and better!  IMHO there's absolutely nothing to criticize on your rural shots - they are just stunning as well as your teaser. However some more people on the streets would make it more alive but I know how difficult this is... so that's not a real minus  ;)

Another splendid updates there Fabian !

The Mosaic of Erhaven is very nicely done, the farms surrounding the houses are sweets also as the city center. The church plaza is fantastic too, although the place seems a bit empty, but it's not a problem at all, fantastic work.
The general-view-teaser-picture is good too, I don't have any reproach on it, because everything is very well done. But, I'm not that kind of all the streets you used in the farm fields, some seems a bit out of place (for example the diagonal one in the bottom center), I think a tree line will be much more appreciated here. But that's only my holy opinion !  ;D
The update just after the picture mentioned before is awesome too, as I said, the farm fields are well done and the housing estates too. I like how the rail line fit in very well, you've done a good job with it. The only little thing I don't really like is the slope before the bridge (the one that goes in the other side of the Maxis river). I think one slope instead of two is much more better.  ;)
Now, the last picture. Well, it show very well a good example of a medieval town center, with the old church, the old paved street and the old housing. It's very nice the way you put all those buildings, it make it feeling like a real shot of an old German town, nice job ! I can only suggest you to use a bit more of road in your cities, I feel bored of the streets very fast..  :D I think, in that last picture, a road running top-bottom where there's a street at left would be very nice, also as the use of the SAM here, to get an old pavement texture, to make it more looking as an old medieval town center.

Take care,
-Arthur.

Earth quake: Thanks a lot :) - it's always great to hear such comments ()stsfd().
Sciurus (x2): Vielen Dank :P. I understand what you mean, Guillaume. In most cases this would be more realistic, of course - but we have some industry just within our 25.000 inhabitants city, surrounded by normal houses (even though those firms are not really polluting the environment...). I'll post a region shot, soon. But there won't be much to see nevertheless ;). Glad you liked the recent update in general :).

Delecto: Thanks, glad you like it ;).
JBSimio: Thanks a lot, JB. I'm glad to see you here :) - it's always great to have new posters in this MD. I've been inspired by my own area a lot, too. I live in a rather big city (compared to those little towns, of course :D) and there are quite a few small towns with 20 - 30 houses around my city ;). Great to hear, that you like it.
Glowbal: Thanks a lot :). You should really try it out - it can be a lot of fun, to create these rural areas... probably even more, than a large Metropolis.
Nardo69: Yes, I did ;D. It's a fantastic tutorial and in most cases I am really happy with the result (though they [the forests] could always be better in my areas, but I'm still learning ;)). Thanks a lot for your comment, Bernhard - glad you like it :).
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot for your comments :) - they're always appreciated. I'm glad you like that area so much :).
art128: Thanks a lot for another huge reply, Arthur &apls. I already thought that someone would suggest using the SAM streets. Well... I've got to admit that I don't really know how to perfectly use that add-on. I tried to replace the streets, today. But then most of my streets in that region turn to that pavement texture, even though I just want that texture, to appear in the center of my medieval town.
hooha47: Thank you! Glad you like it :).

Nice batch of shots in this update!  I really like the style of your forests there.  In your first shot you've got a small building with a dock I don't recognize, where did you pick that one up?

I'd have to say both picture styles of your medieval town have good qualities, both with and without the color enhancement.  What really blows my mind is how amazing the perspective shifts look.  Someday I'd love to see a tutorial on how you are pulling this off!  Keep up the great work!

This time, I'll not critisize your images one after one, because it would be too long, as I answer also in german ;D

So, Fabian, I already said youn that your updates are wonderful, and I find it really good succeded! And, to answer to your question, I like this picture (http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/693/70457264.jpg), beacause colours are nice, I find also green shades nice, but a bit sad too. Also, for the general updates, I find the effect you make on your images is nice, and with this, I feel the atmosphere of north, and especially Deutschland. But after, I don't know if it's we must feel. :D

Update #17 - Two Mosaics

Thanks a lot everybody! Today I've got two new mosaics for you. You probably won't notice it, but the last picture is in fact a mosaic, though a rather small one :D.

Battlecat: Hey Battlecat, glad you visit this MD here so often, recently :). You can find that building here: Click! (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22739) To your other question: Basically you just need to resize the picture only in vertical size (hope you understand what I wanted to say). I always resize the picture by approximately 65% or so.
Badsim: Thanks a lot Cedric :). I'm glad you like the recent Update so much  and it's great to hear, that you like the photoshopping.
Bobbi: Thank you, Bobbi. It's great to see you posting here so frequently :).
io_bg: Thanks a lot, Ioan :) - I tried to fix that mentioned bridge, but I always ruin the whole scene, so I rather keep it like that ;).
Tomas Neto: Thanks for your nice comment, Tomas :).
Sciurus: Danke schön, Guillaume, glad you like the recent Update so much. If I would be able to, I'd answer your replies in french language ;D, but I decided to pick Latin in the 6th grade, instead of French &mmm.
Earth quake: Thank you :). Glad you liked it and it's great to have you as a quite frequent poster, too.
sumwonyuno: Thanks a lot, I really like the last two pictures, too so I'm glad to hear, that you like them as much as I do.
gottago: Thanks a lot. Glad to hear that you like that little town center ;).
kwakelaar: Thank you :). It's hard to find the perfect colors, I guess. Sometimes brighter colors look better, but they tend to look unrealistically oversaturated, if you make it too colorfull.

Wow! Awesome update, especially the second pic! :o It looks like it's taken from a plane. Looking forward to more! (doesn't matter will it be rural or urban areas, you make both look wonderful ;))

Oh, you should take French instead of Latin, it's better :D
So, as your habit, this is wonderful, I just can say that! Just a thing, on the latest pic, we could believe we're in Alsace ::)

Nice mosaic (as always ;) ).  &apls You seem to have learned a nice way how to plant trees and forrests ... ;)  :D

I like how you connected the small harbour (?) with the street by the RRP country lane. Also that mirrored semaphore looks a bit strange to me ... ;)

Take care

This village is just beautiful and the river is fantastic.
I really like this small park in middle of the suburbs.

Job well done!  &apls &apls

Nice pair of updates!  Love the way your towns look, very classic European style!

Interesting how effective just resizing on the vertical is, I might just have to give that a shot some day.  Thanks for sharing the trick.

You have been putting different custom content to very good use. The lonely small house with a pier on the river is an example of this. Your rural areas are nicely done, a lot of things to look at.

I initially planned an Update for today, but I have been busy with building a city for the SC4D Thematic Contest (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=374.0).
Just in case you didn't know... I already opened a thread there and I'll be posting my city, soon.
Just a preview of what you can expect:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg35.imageshack.us%2Fimg35%2F9594%2F61082672.jpg&hash=718b9db945aba3c61a8da6c09bf8a38f43f255e7)

Watch this ->thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9416.0) for more pictures ;).
Well, I hope you like it so far since it is almost finished (still need to fix that resized lot, since the textures from the roads are not appearing &mmm).
Oh and be sure to watch this thread, too :D, as I'll be posting another Update (including replies), soon .

Update #19 - One last Mosaic (of that area)

Alright, I know that this isn't the biggest Update I have ever done, but I have been busy with finishing my SC4D Thematic Competition Entry. I'm currently working on a new city, which is supposed to be some kind of financial center, but I'm not sure yet.
I guess it's already getting annoying, but it's the last Update from that area ;).

Just thought, I'd give you a small preview of my current work, which will be featured in the next Update :):

Initially I hadn't any intention with that avenue. When I returned from Berlin, I thought that this would be quite nice to recreate, of course with my own additions. So it's not that accurate.
But at some point, I thought that it would make sense, to integrate this road into my own, fictional, capitol city: Laon. I'm not sure how to do this, yet - or even if I ever will, it might just become a new city.
Thanks for watching - expect a new Update tommorow ;),

I really enjoyed these two mosaics. The canal fits really well in your city and I love the way you put each lots. W2W developments are nicely putted near museum and government buildings. Also, nice work with the place and the big wide avenue which looks really cool.

Ok, good that you understood my question, and I'm satisfacted of the answer. I think I'll try for my next update (soon... $%Grinno$%)
For the image now, I find it really nice, but I find that you put too many important monuments only on this avenue. I think you should share those monuments out ;)
And a latest thing, the Berliner Dom, the canal behind it, a long avenue which go front of the dom, an important BAT next to it, the Berliner Opera, will you do us a reproduction of Berlin Fabian? ::)

I guess I'm doing MD stats for a reason, I'm very sick  $%Grinno$% But you have added over 7 pages and 150 posts to your thread in a little under a month. In anyones terms that's a job well done.  &apls &apls

And with good reason too. Despite the added pressure you have maintained the standard of work we are used to, and have certainly won some new fans along the way.

Great work

Update #21 - Working on the new Boulevard

Alright,
my month in this section is over and I'd really like to thank everybody who has posted here. I hope you enjoyed this month :).
Actually I planned to finish the whole section, but I was not able to fill in the last gap, due to time limitations. But since this is the last day in this section, I'd like to show you one last Update, I hope you can forgive me ;).

gottago: Thanks a lot ;) and congratulations on uploading your first building to the LEX (it looks awesome &apls &apls). By the way, which building do you mean? There is no building in the lower right corner ()what(). I suppose that you meant the lower left corner :P. Is it that (http://yaplog.jp/waldorf/archive/90) building?
art128: Thanks a lot Arthur :). Glad you liked the recent Update.
Sciurus: Thanks a lot, Guillaume :). No I don't try to reproduce Berlin :D - I just got inspired by it and yes, there are a lot of similarities, I guess. Maybe it is my own vision of "Unter den Linden", I don't know :P.
Battlecat: Thank you very much :).
Earth quake: Thanks a lot ;) - yes that canal was made by Youcef, if I'm not mistaken ;).
silentbreaker: Thanks a lot for your nice comment :). I don't know whether I will recreate the Museuminsel. It would be quite hard, since I don't know a lot of buildings, that could represent the buildings from the real Museumsinsel. But I will give it a try ;).
BarbarossaS: Thanks a lot, Stijn :). Glad you like it.
djvandrake: Thank you very much ;).
tooheys: Thanks a lot, Dave. I didn't even notice that I already got 150 posts in this month. It seems, that this was quite a successful month for my MD :). Glad you liked the Updates of this month .

Nice final update for your OSTIM time!  That extra wide avenue really turned out great, I particularly like the side streets diving into an underpass.  Looking forward to seeing what they go under!

On dit ici, "t'as terminé en beauté." The avenue is really fantastic, and your cities are as pleasurable to admire as your towns and landscapes. I really like how you compose the blocks--the mix of buildings is very harmonious. Great job.

And thanks for your comment on my BAT, it's really appreciated. And yes, that was the building (same basic layout, so I was intrigued), apparently I was a bit sloppy with my directions, lol. Thanks a lot for the link

I agree with Gottago with "T'as fini en beauté" which means "You finshed beautifully" &apls
But now, come back on earth! (if you understand the expression ::)) I find your avnue beautiful, but, on the first pic, we can see a crossroad on the left, but cars which come from the south of the pic, can't go front of they come, and it's the thing I saw. The own thing I saw :D
For the lot of important builfings, there's not to much in Unter den Linden, but if you see it like that ;D Ah, yes there's an important building, the french ambassade in Pariser Platz, the beginning of Unter den Linden! $%Grinno$%
Oh yes, a latest thing I saw, on the second pic, the asphalt stops brutally on the avenue, if you could a texture to avoid it, it'll be nice! ()stsfd()
I finsh now with a sentence in french "C'est parfait!" &apls

Guillaume.

Even without the gap filled, there is more detail in those shots than most people have in their whole MDs!

I like the "mad scramble" of cars at the T-intersection of the avenue; a chaotic scene that makes your city come to life. Congrats on getting 150+ comments last month, Fabian!

Update #22 - Some Tests

Today I'm going to show you, what I personally call my "Test City". It's nothing really special, but I thought that it came out quite nicely. My intention was to improve the way I play the game.
I'm still working on my new Capital... but in the meanwhile I will show you this "Test City" ;).
Since this is a "Test City", you might see some elements, you have already seen.

Just one note, I think the plaza at the top of the mosaic is a bit too empty, some trees and bushes on the grass would make it look much better ;)

Nice use of those diagonal buildings. Your city seems very busy and livable

I also think that the open plaza at the top of the pic seems a bit empty. Maybe some planter props (such as the ones made by Simgoober) would make the plaza less... dull. Everything else I wouldn't change a bit, though!

I'm sorry, but I just got a small teaser for you today...
I've been experimenting with transparent textures, diagonal fields and other things.
You were able to see the CBD of a rather big city in the last Update... I decided to continue working on that city and I'm currently trying to build the suburbs ;).

Your farms look very nice, Fabian! Nice work with the transparent textures  ;). Although I do agree with Yann that the fields do seem a bit too "clean". I know of a prop pack that has some nice, uh... props that may be useful.
They can be found in BSCMegaProps JES Vol01 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=342) and BSCMegaProps jestarr Vol02 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=338). The props you'll want to check out are:

jes_Grass-1Clump01
jes_Grass-3Clump01
jes_Weed02

These props are small, so I suggest plopping several of these together to get a more visual effect. You can find them towards the end of the prop list in the Lot Editor.

This is a Maxis prop, but I tend to use this in my lots more often than not: Flora 2x2x2_QuarterShrub_1EDF

Since I know you're a whiz with the LE, I know you'll have no problem with this . These are just suggestions, so don't feel obligated to do these. Keep up the splendid work, Fabian!

I like your work with the transparent textures. The default grass is quite nice. It can look a little too clean though. You might want to try some plopped grass and undergrowth. It would work well with those textures.

kwakelaar: Thanks a lot :). Actually, those textures are not expanding. If you are interested, I could show you a picture from the Lot Editor (just let me know), but then again you could also have a look at "Antigone" - since the rural Lots in that MD were my main inspiration ;).
harris14: Thank you very much :) - glad to see another new face in this MD.

Very nice update, the pictures are great and I love the way the city is setup, very realistic.  I'm not a big farm person but even that area looks great too.

Those are great looking farms!  Those new buildings are an excellent addition to the game, I certainly like what you've done with them!  Those two industrial buildings in shot 5 or 6 are pretty cool as well, where did you locate those ones?

Incredible rural shots! It seems you can do it all: urban, suburban, rural...

Everything seems to fit into place perfectly. Although, the street roundabout does stick out a bit due to the concrete textures. Perhaps some strategically placed props using the lot resize trick would make the roundabout fit in better? Seeing your past pics, I know you can utilize this technique (if you chose to) with great results!

Splendid update, Fabian !
I like how the warehouses are mixed with the houses, it's nicely done. Excellent work with the road (well, street) layout which is well thought. The small block fits really well here, behind the railway. The farms are nicely done too, I like those big empty spaces. Good job with the industrial sector too, fits well with the atmosphere of the city.

Take care,

Update #24 - A first look at Mühlenberg

Thank you again for following this MD :).
Today I will present you a little town called "Mühlenberg". It was named after a mill which is not existing anymore, even though there are plans to re-erect it.
I played around with Photoshop... I'm not sure whether you will like it, but I think it looks more or less okay.
You won't see a lot of the town itself in this Update but rather you will see more rural areas, which surround Mühlenberg. I even created a few Lots (e.g. those diagonal-field-lots :-\).

Nice update, Fabian !
As Robin said, it's very eye-catching ! I like how you played with the farm fields. The photoshop you add to the pictures is, as usual, very nice, but a bit too dark for my taste.. I really love the effects you've done with the first picture from the top and the third from the bottom, the first looks like a cloud is passing when the photograph took the picture from the plane; And the second looks like the sun is just at the right of the focal of the camera ! Nice work !

Update #25 - Finishing Mühlenberg and Starting a new Region

Well the last Update was called "A first look at Mühlenberg". It seems to be a lie $%Grinno$% (I'm sorry :P) - I'll post one last image of Mühlenberg, though (the first mosaic).
At some point I realized that my region was way too big - that's why I decided to start a new region, which will still be in the Empire of Leviathan. That region will consist of rural areas but also of a huge city (I estimate it to be on at least 9 big tiles - hopefully more ::)). Today you'll get to see a first Teaser of the suburbs of that mentioned city ;). Hopefully you will like it...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg121.imageshack.us%2Fimg121%2F2736%2F48132172.jpg&hash=46f2df621653ed5daf32bbc5ca843a75d5f73ada)

Teaser

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg513.imageshack.us%2Fimg513%2F4412%2F34713428.jpg&hash=86829bc747ad0f4d6a39cb4d2bdb1e9d93c55f57)

Ok, I hope you liked this Update #25 :) and even more that you'll appreciate my new region :-\.
I've got some questions:

#1: Did you like the colours in the second mosaic, or do you think they're too colourful?
#2: I've tested like 4 different mods that claimed to remove those ugly palms... none of them worked - does anyone know how to fix that?
#3: I've got Ennedi's Slopemod installed... it worked fine until recently... does anyone know why?

Any help would be appreciated :).

Fabian

Love it! Brilliant showcase of Matt's houses (how do you get so many to build in the one area!?  :o ) and great suburban areas. Loving those rural scenes as well, great use of Chrisadam's fences ;)

Can I ask, have you changed the isometric view in photoshop? Your straight streets look diagonal, and diagonals straight - and it looks real good!

#1: Not to colourful at all - however, the further the mosaic is zoomed out, the less colourful it should be IMO (to create the feeling of depth)
Have no idea about the other two - sorry :D

I know the problem with regionsize, that's why I've never finished one yet.

Your way of playing looks really awesome, btw.

for your questions:
#1) I like the colors more saturated as your last pic (I always do this with mine).
#2) & #3) This sounds like mod conflicts. My Palm-removal-mod works fine. I'll take a look, which one I use.

Ben

EDIT: I have 2, but I don't know where they are from, as I just keep the dats due to space.
          The names of the dats:
                NoPalmsProps-Pines.dat   (28.10.2004)
                No $$$ Palms.dat            (05.09.2004)
        I hope that helps.

Those rail lines are supurb.  I really like that a lot.

For your questions:

1)  I very much enjoy the colors. I think your mosaic looks wonderful.

2)  My no palms mods don't work either. :(  Sorry I'm no help, but I'll be an interested reader for the comments of the others here.

3)  I use a different slope mod.  Can't remember which.  I'll check.

And I can't wait to see this huge, 9 tile city! Yikes!  ;D

Wonderful pics, but they take a long time to load--are they .pngs? Better to post .jpgs. The bottom one is too saturated and dark for my taste, though.

I gave up on no palm mods a while ago--none of them seem to work; they all leave little rump palmettos that look silly. I've used the SFBT tree replacement mod, which does get rid of palms as advertised, but it creates another problem--though it promises to give you control over what tree models appear on your streets, I get conifers mixed in when I want only deciduous. I've never been anywhere other than mountain villages where you see streets lined with towering pine and spruce trees, and find this just as annoying as Maxis palms, but maybe it will work for you.

In the same way, I've never found a rail ballast removal mod that works, though I've tried them all and moved them literally everywhere in my plugins, and ended up using a compromise one that replaces the ballast with an inoffensive grass texture. It doesn't blend with the terrain but better than nothing.

I'm really happy to announce that I've won the Thematic Competition (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=10353.0) for a second time :).
Because it took so long for another Update, I decided to post 4 new mosaics of that city as "apology" :P. I hope you enjoy these mosaics.

Fabian, you've done a pretty fabulous work on this city so far my friend.

All of what I saw there is fantastic. The town is really well done, I love the buildings you used there. Also, excellent job on that river, it's a  nice idea you had there to use the TPW to make a river. That custom lotted avenue is excellent too, I love how it leads to the church and the column. However, I don't really like that small "building" just in front of a stair in mosaic number 4 (The one just next to the modern glass building.) ..  ::) $%Grinno$%

Arthur.

Fantastic pictures.  The canal is a neat idea, but the edges of the plopped water make it look kinda weird.

Are those picnic tables by the pond ploppable?  If so where can one get them?

All in all, a set of great pictures.

Wow, fantastic mosaics of your city. Everything 'fits' together perfectly. The cathedral is well placed, congrats on the competition by the way. I find myself drawn to that pond and the picnic tables as well.

Great work.

I have to agree with the others about your apology, although I wish to see more. ;) and very soon.
Those pics were amazing.  You seem to have everything very well placed in your city.  Parks are in the right places, I see some parking lots....which many MDers forget about.
The thing that has got me is that building that transitions the trains to underground....where did you get that?  I love it.
Keep updating like this and I'll be moving your MD to The Classics section in no time. ;)

Update #27 - City of Hammerbrook

Wow! No Updates since 4 months - my MD should have been in the Archives already, no? :D Anyway... I do not play this game very often anymore... but sometimes, when I'm bored I still find the time to play a few minutes :). That's why there has been no Update for such a long time  ;).
Well, as you will see, I have been working on a new city: Hammerbrook. I think somebody already called his city like that on this site?! I'm not sure - anyway my city is named after a district of Hamburg in Germany. I hope you like it :).

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa.imageshack.us%2Fimg193%2F2116%2F68083420.jpg&hash=f014303511ec38ccbe78e9f14486b5eece233257)

That's it already! I've never said that this would be a huge Update - but it's better than nothing... I try to post more soon :P.

Update #29 - Starting all over again

Wow, I can't believe that it has been almost one year without any updates?!
Anyway, after a long break, I decided to give this game another try, as I was actually quite bored with it for some time...
I cleaned up my plugins-folder a little bit and yeah, now I'm trying to grow some nice cities again.
The city which is depicted below is called "Lindenthal" - a city which is only a stone's throw away from Leviathan's capital: Laon.
It serves as a seat of royal power dating back to the mid of the 18th century. Since then, Lindenthal has experienced a huge period of growth and with 178.000 inhabitants nowadays, it is one of Leviathan's many bigger cities.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg143.imageshack.us%2Fimg143%2F2599%2F83725764.jpg&hash=72084d77e9ee64885d6dd42d489c14dda3cba5f5)
