Preliminary Update

Introduction

The Monarchy of Dunya, situated in the Indian Ocean south of the Arabian Peninsula, is a small island dominated by desert and roamed by nomads. Recently, the current ruler of Dunya, King Edward Ezamsi, has decided to open the doors of his small kingdom to the outside world and has called upon any person looking to start a new life in a land of hope and peace to come to the island, where they will be greeted with open arms.

King Edward Ezamsi, who is only 28 years old, and the other members of the small ruling family wish to turn their kingdom into a developed nation and have very high ambitions of doing so. They have already mandated the very first permanent settlement of their nomadic people have called it Rawa'a, or peace in the local dialect of Dunyan. There they have established the humble Royal Residence, and in order to financially and economically be part of the world, they have also opened the state owned Bank of Dunya. Their 20 man strong personal security team are personally ensuring the safety of all 50 people who have decided to call Rawa'a their permanent home (which includes the security team!)

The King has issued an order than any incoming immigrant be immediately issued a Dunyan passport, and be given one of the houses constructed for a mere $200 a month. He has also issued an order stating that if the said immigrant wishes to be employed, there will be a guaranteed job awaiting them at the Bank of Dunya. Furthermore, any investors looking at potential investment in Rawa'a, whether it be through business venture or simply buying land and real estate, should take note that soon, a law will be enacted opening up such opportunities for outsiders and, in fact, Dunyans.

Finally, here is some general information that will help assimilate all newcomers into Rawa'a and Dunya:

Temperature: Desert
Currency: Dunyan Dollar ($)
Ethnicities: Mix of Arab and Europeans
Taxation: 5% on Income
Resources: Fish (As of now)

Welcome to Dunya!

(PARTICIPANTS: I need to know 2 things at this point: What would you like your character's profession to be, and where you would like him to live - first come, first served! Oh, and WELCOME! Im really excited to get this off the ground, and I hope you feel the same way. We got space for a few more, so please, if you know anyone interested, let me know! Still working on the map and such, but given that I wanted this to be as open as possible and have all of you as involved as possible, I decided to show you what I have so far :))

(Recorded, peter007 and marsh :))

The Monarchy of Dunya wishes to let the world know that the Rawa'a Pier, while small in size, will begin accepting goods arriving from Dubai soon, facilitating life on the island with provision and food products.

It also wishes to inform the public that it has done what it can with its limited coffers to pave the two roads of Rawa'a, and hopes the general public is pleased with the results.

Additionally, our investment in the Geothermal Power Plant situated north of the town has paid off as electricity and running water are now permanent fixtures in each of Rawa'a's homes.

I'd like house number 4 in the CBD, as a Government Employee.
Title: Re: Updates
Post by: nedalezz on July 28, 2011, 05:47:29 AM
King Edward Ezamsi is pleased to announce that the government has approximately $1,000,000 in its coffers. The Bank of Dunya, which also serves as the Dunya Treasury, will be the recipient of all bills and taxes paid to the government of Dunya by its residents.

With local suppliers dwindling, the shipment from Dubai is expected any day now, and the government will be stocking up on its inventory to make sure that the residents of Rawa'a are not left without products that are neccessary for everyday life.

King Edward has also petitioned to continue campaigning in order to bring more immigrants to settle in the capital city, both from overseas and from inside Dunya.

Turn One

Below, the current state of Rawa'a with the grid on. For Hank Garvei and Michael Areameder, they have to decide where they want to set up their stands. For Nick Terrell, as the new bank teller in town, you don't have to do anything to start earning your money!

Land will be sold per plot, clearly marked in the below picture by the grids. Each plot is 10 meters by 10 meters, or 100 square meters, and each plot is currently worth $1,000. However, no land is for sale just yet, as I would like to get the game flowing first before delving into more detail.

As discussed in the discussion board, the expenses should be pretty clear. For the traders, the population of the town is 50, and since we're not getting into any other type of goods but the Life Neccessity products, they will be spending $200 each per month, or $1,200 per turn - that gives a total of $60,000. After the stand and the expenses you will both be starting out with $16,600. I recommend buying up goods with $16,000 - which would turn you a profit of $4,000, enough to cover the $2,400 fixed expenses and the $1,000 tax to be taken at the beginning of next turn.

I'm still waiting on travismking to respond, but as long as he does so before the beginning of Turn Two, he will be alright.

Anyway, thats the little guide for now, below you can find the neccessary information pertaining to this turn. Desicions that are made from now till the beginning of next turn will show at the beginning of the next turn.

One more thing - if, for any reason, you find your character having spent too much money and can't cover his or her expenses the next turn, you will go into the RED, and will forced to either: sell some of your assets, or take a loan from the Bank of Dunya on an interest. More on that later!

Finally, I will start listing things you can buy on the files and information page. Enjoy!

Traders: The ship from Dubai has arrived, importing LIFE NECCESSITY products worth $60,000. Whatever you don't end up buying, the government will. The current requirement for Dunya per turn is $60,000. Please point out where you would like to set up your Stands.

Improvements: A new dirt road has been made to the north of town called Drift Lane. Any land purchased for farming is required to be built on that road.

Both of your current cash amount is at $16,600.

sorry, Only come online at night time for the US :) I would like house #2 as a farmer please :) do I need to purchase farming land as well?
Title: Re: Updates
Post by: nedalezz on July 28, 2011, 11:40:16 PM
Excellent! To start you off, lets get a quick guide on being a farmer. You start off with $20,000, ofcourse; and we will have to remove $1,200 for Life Neccessity products, $600 for house rent, and $300 for utilities. Thats leaves us with $17,900. Now as a farmer, your investment will have to be in land, and you're in luck! The Dunyan government has released land alongside Drift Lane for purchase! Each plot is 10m x 10m, or 100 sq. meters - I would recommend purchasing a 4x4 plot of land to begin with.

As a farmer, you get to select whether you want to produce fruits or vegetables - this isn't a factor in the first couple of turns but will be as we continue to delve into the game since the Life Neccessity products will be split into 5 groups: fruits, vegetables, meat, liquids (water, milk, etc.), and daily use household goods (cleaning products, body care products, etc.)

Each plot of land will generate a set number of income each turn - to start with, each plot of land will be generating $200, so thats $3,200 per turn. The REC (Random Event Calculator) will be rolled at the beginning of each turn starting with the next, and it will decide how much of that gets exported at 20% markup. For example, if 2 is rolled, that means 60% will be exported, which is $1,920 - with the markup, it becomes $2,300. That leaves $900 in inventory for the farmer.

At the point, the farmer has a few options: 1) Since we haven't split the Life Neccessities yet, use the $900 towards Life Neccessity products (so only $300 would have to be paid for Life Neccessities in Turn Two), 2) Sell it to a trader for 80% of its value (so $900 would be sold for $720), 3) Sell it to the government for 50% of its value, or 4) Hold on to it till the next turn.

Each plot of farmland will initially cost $25 per turn to maintain, so that will go as expense, so a 4x4 land will cost $400 to maintain. So, if the land turns $3,200 of which 80% gets exported - you are left with $3,070 in cash and $600 worth in inventory. The $600 gets sold to the government for 50%, or $300, so now the farmer has $3,370 in cash, of which he has to minus $400, which leaves us with $2,970. Covering expenses ($1,200 Life Neccessities, $300 utilities, $600 rent = $2,100) the farmer wouldve made a grand total of $870 this turn.

Hope that clarifies how the whole farmer thing works! For now, I need you to pick out how big you would like your plot and where on Drift Lane you would like to buy your land! Also, what you would like to grow - fruits or vegetables!

Above shows the current state of affairs of Rawa'a. Congratulations on Mr. Tyrone Harvey on becoming the first land owner in Dunya!
The farm will be ready to go in Turn Two.

The market stalls will be situated on Turn Two's map - I still need desicions from Michael Areameder and Hank Garvei's on how much they would like to buy from the $60,000 Life Neccessity products that have come in.

Nick Terrell will end the turn with $20,510. Starting with Turn Two, I have decided to implement a Random Calculator roll that will give a chance of bonus income for all government employee characters.

Also starting in Turn Two, the government will begin budgeting cash to improve the town in ways it deems fit. It calls on all residents to put in suggestions on what they would like. Land will be available to be bought by all residents in Turn Two, as long as it is situated EAST of Edward Ezamsi Street.

Hank Garvei currently has $16,600 - I will allocate $16,600 of the incoming shipment to Hank :)

The Player Factbook will be your guide for your character - you can find assets, fixed expenses, and current cash, along with some other information as well.
Title: Re: Updates
Post by: nedalezz on July 29, 2011, 06:48:19 AM
I made a small list of what everyone can expect in terms of income after the first turn:

Areameder: Still waiting on purchase desicion!

Garvei:
$20,000 - $2,400 (Fixed Expense Personal) - $1,000 (Stand) - $16,600 (Purchase) = 0
$16,600 * 1.25 = $20,750 - $1,038 (5% Tax) = $19,712. This figure wille be carried over into Turn Two.

Harvey:
$20,000 - $2,100 (Fixed Expense Personal) - $400 (Fixed Expense Business) - $16,000 (Land Purchase) = $1,500. Thats the Cash left after Turn One.
16 Plots of Farmland at $200 each = $3,200 worth of products. At the beginning of Turn Two, I will Random Calculator roll to see how much you will be able to export at 20% markup, and the rest of your vegetable stock will be up to you to decide what to do with!

Terrell:
$20,000 - $1,200 (Fixed Expense Personal) = $18,800.
Salary is $1,800 - $90 (5% Tax) = $1,710 + $18,800 = $20,510 at the start of Turn Two.

Exla - For this first turn, no :) As you save money, you might want to venture into opening up your own business, buying land, buying a house, or simply improving on your influence (as a government employee, you get influence with each turn - this is exclusive to government employees.) Influence is important if you have an interest in joining a political career - very high fixed salaries along with Real Life desicion making!

marsh - Sorry about that, will get on it right away!

Alright, we have all the information we need to end Turn One. Watch out for Turn Two, should be coming at you tomorrow at max!

I would like to purchase house number 8 which is right in the CBD, you'll never know when growth happens. My characters name is Alex Meade and I would like him to be a government worker, I'm also inquiring who works at the geothermal plant?

Welcome Deionn (and Alex Meade!)

Im glad you mentioned the geothermal plant - it is now seeking employment and has a position open for a Ground Supervisor!

The houses are actually owned by the government, and since you are an employee of the government, your housing is free of charge, plus you only pay half for Life Neccessity (the government gives you the rest.) I'll have your Player Factbook up soon, and Turn Three will be your first turn.

Speaking of factbooks, they are now up! See the latest information on your characters there!

Right, so King Edward Ezamsi is constructing his new Royal Residence. What do you think guys - grand, opulent, and big (the king has money!), or humble and elegant?

marsh, the market stall will have to be moved :( I will place Areameder and Garvei next to each other just a little north of the house north of the bank, if thats ok?

I'd go with the later one. It fits better in the city at the moment. The big one seems like it should be a private estate far away from any town.

Turn Two

Population: 200
GDP: $800,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: None

As word has spread about the founding of Dunya's new capital city, Rawa'a, people have begun to come in to town looking for opportunity. The population of the town has grown from 50 to 200, with the government scrambling to construct houses on the outskirts of Rawa'a to accommodate the newcomers.

The town has already seen the opening of two market stalls, owned by the Areameder and Garvei families. The two traders have served as a median between the imported goods coming in and the residents of Rawa'a.

The expansion north alongside Drift Lane saw the Harvey family purchase a 1,600 sq. meter piece of land, which was promptly turned into a vegetable farm. The crops turned a normal yield the past 6 months, of which most of it was exported.

The Bank of Dunya got itself a new teller, Nick Terrell, who has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces around town.

As you can see from the picture above, the Dunyan government recently paid $20,000 to pave a new road in the dirt, aptly named Corner Street. It becomes the third registered street in Rawa'a, and will serve to ease access to homes that the government has built further out from town. Edward Ezamsi street has also been stretched to reach the Rawa'a geothermal power plant and water pump, and a small dirt path has been cleared behind the Royal Residence, dubbed Jalmi Lane. All together, the government has spent approximately $40,000 paving dirt roads and expanding asphalt roads the past 6 months.

Next to the two market stalls, Chris Khassem has begun construction work on his new inn, called the Khassem Inn. Once completed, the 12 room inn will also feature a small pub and restaurant. The 2x1 (200 sq. meters) plot was acquired by Khassem from the Dunyan government for $2,000.

King Edward Ezamsi recently told residents of Rawa'a to invest in land, stating that the prices had nowhere to go but up. He continued by saying he wanted to see Dunyans get wealthy when the inevitable influx of foreign investors come into the land looking for real estate to develop.
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Two)
Post by: Exla357 on July 31, 2011, 11:38:46 AM
Would it be possible for Nick Terrell to buy a 4x4 plot of land at the corner of Jalmi Lane and Edward Ezamsi Street? Just to own some land?
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Two)
Post by: nedalezz on July 31, 2011, 11:52:23 AM
Absolutely! The 4x4 plot (1,600 sq. meters) will cost Terrell $16,000 - of which he has :)

Congratulations on being the 2nd land owner in Dunya!

Also, just to clarify, as long as the land is bordering any road, and is not occupied by the Royal Residence, Bank of Dunya, or the under construction Khassem Inn, its up for sale. If someone lives on a house on the land chosen, they will be relocated :)
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Two)
Post by: marsh on July 31, 2011, 01:53:36 PM
Well for the issue of land, I will buy a 1x3 plot of land. The 3 tiles coming out from Edward E. Street, which my house is currently on. (Not the corner lot) And I will allocate the remaining I have to buy the maximum amount of life necessity products.
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Two)
Post by: nedalezz on July 31, 2011, 02:13:38 PM
Not a problem :) You'll be paying $3,000 for the 300 sq. meters of land, and $14,313 (the rest of your cash) buying up Life Neccessity products.

King Edward Ezamsi has written a law requiring all owners of businesses to register their businesses with the government. For Areameder, Garvei, and Harvey, each one of you should give the government the new name of your business :)

Turn Three

Population: 350
GDP: $1,400,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest

As you can see from the pictures above, the population has nearly doubled in Rawa'a in the past 6 months as more people make their permanent homes in the capital city. King Edward Ezamsi gave permission for people to reside to the west of Edward Ezamsi Street, and even gave the approval to Nick Terrell to acquire a 4x4 plot of land just north of the Royal Residence.

Terrell was not the only one to invest in Dunyan real estate – trader Michael Areameder bought the piece of land his home is located on, and as a reward for buying the land, King Edward decided to gift him the home situated on his land, saving him from having to pay rent on the house, which he now owns.

The Khassem Inn also opened for business. The land, and the inn constructed on it, are owned by Chris Khassem. The inn features 12 basic rooms and a restaurant/pub that opens every day of the week from 6PM onwards.

The government has also given the approval for further paving of roads, with focus being on extending Drift Lane eastward and Corner Street north. There has also been preliminary approval for the construction of a small school to the east of town, possibly alongside the new extension of Drift Lane.

I think marsh can testify to the fact that my citybuilding is always story based and slow. I like things to develop realistically and as naturally as possible. In regards to marsh's question - this will definitely be alot more like Qumma, I guess. Maybe the architecture will be a bit different, as Im planning on using CP's 19th century housing along with Matt325's (much like Nesara), but in terms of story and development, a lot more like Qumma.

Turn Three - Mini Update

King Edward Ezamsi has given the approval for the construction of a primary school on the outskirts of town. After expanding Drift Lane, the government has also drawn up a new road, called Madrasa Street, the connects Main Street with Drift Lane. The Rawa'a Primary School will be located on a 3x3 plot on the corner of Madrasa St. and Drift Lane.

The government has released a budget of $700,000 from its coffers, believed to be at $1.5 million before the school, for the complete construction of the school. The school will be ready in 1 year's time (2 Turns, or at the beginning Turn Five.)

Turn Four

Population: 520
GDP: $2,080,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Rawa'a Primary School ; Police Station

A lot of thing happening this turn. The government has taken the initiative to pave Corner Street and parts of Drift Lane with the promise it will continue to do so in the next few months. It hopes to have Drift Lane paved up to the new Rawa'a Primary School, which set to be completed after 6 months. On the other side of Madrasa Street, work on the new police station has started, set to be complete in 1 years time. The government has budgeted the project for $500,000 – once these 2 projects are completed, the living standard of Rawa'a will rise, making it a more desirable place to live.

Hank Garvei has purchased the land which he was renting from the government for $1,000. The 1x1 plot will be the site of his new electronics showroom. Currently, his stand is still on the land, but in 6 months, it will be relocated to make room for his new showroom. He has taken out a loan from the Bank of Dunya to finance the construction project, believed to cost about $50,000. The loan will extend for 12.5 years, and will have a 20% fixed interest rate on it.

Salford Construction Company, a privately owned construction company owned by Terrence Salford, has bought land on Main Street for $2,000  and is currently developing its new offices. Once completed, Salford Construction will be the first construction company operating in Rawa'a. On the otherside of the Royal Residence, a company called Hi-Fashion also bought a 1x2 plot and is constructing a showroom for garments and accessories. Both projects will be ready 6 months from now.

Participants: A new profession is available – Construction. Read about in the information thread. Also, I have put up some new rules on players wanting to own companies that are not in their chosen profession. That is also up in the information thread!

I have a few random thoughts I would like to write down and see what you guys think:
1: The pavement of the roads. I completely support it in every aspect though I wonder where the cars that will eventually use the roads will come from? Dubai?
2: In relation to question one, I think the dock is remarkably small for the town's only supply line. I think at some point in the next 5-6 turns the dock should be upgraded and/or a small unpaved landing strip might be considered.
3: With the current population of the town a little over five hundred I think it's a little unrealistic that only the less than ten participants are making major choices. Out of 520 people, I'm sure more than two would want to own land, etc. Naldezz, maybe you could make a few descisions for other citizens?

Just my two cents, what do you guys think?

-Alex
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Four)

This is exactly what Im after, Involvement, people! :)

1) Dunya is an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean (Check the map thread), so the roads wont be connected to any neighboring country :) However, if you mean where they will be imported from, well then Dubai could be an option. Further down the road, characters will be able to buy cars as luxury items (real make cars, i.e: BMW X5 4.0). You actually touched upon something I was going to introduce soon - the car showroom! There will be used salesmen offering specific cars, and further down the road, actual brands will be looking for agents in this new frontier ;)

2) You are right - the dock is tiny! Everything depends on the government budget however - after the latest projects involving the school and the police station, the coffers have run dry! Dont worry though, the government makes a pretty penny from taxes, utilities, and sales of Life Neccessity products.

3) Actually, I was thinking the same thing! Thats why Ive opened a few NPC owned companies this turn and last - for now, we can assume most residents work for the government in its different formats. Once your businesses grow, expenses will come into account, and part of those expenses will be employees. As the project evolves, so will the numbers I will present - including unemployment numbers and the like. Right now, 3 NPCs own land other than 3 real life characters that do: Khassem, Salford, and Hi-Fashion.

Well people do own land. considering all the shops opening up. In fact many npc's are ahead of us as they already own stores. :D I think it's safe to say other people own land. But they just don't have their land fenced.

Although 1 thing I need to ask, nedal I hope you plan on making some streets and not just all roads. ;)

Yeah, there are currently 3 NPCs that own land and businesses. I even have their worths and what not on the excel sheet. Basically Im treating them just as real characters, but with less detail.

Actually, I was planning on all roads since they have those awesome yellow lights! But hey, if you want some streets, we'll get some streets :)

I've been lurking a lot on this forum, and I've been reading Nesara/Haven.  When I saw this project, I thought I might as well get involved with this roleplay.  I was wondering if I could add a character: his name would be Addison Martin, a former port worker from Darwin, Australia, with some technical training (equivalent of 2 years of college).  I was hoping that he could work at the Rawa'a Pier, as a customs inspector/port manager for the government, if that position is still available.

Hey rjet13, and welcome! Most definitely you can join up - welcome to Addison Martin, Customs Inspector at the Rawa'a Pier! Everything looks in order, except that the default starting Education Level for every new player is 0. Now that the government is investing in education (Primary School almost done, and plans for a high school will be revealed soon), players can pay for their education and raise their levels. We'll get your character registered in Turn Four, and he'll start earning his money come Turn Five.

Ah...that works fine, I was unsure if he could have education before the project, thought I'd see anyways.  My plans won't really be affected by that anyways.

Alright, a new land purchased by the Meade family!

From Garvei, I need to know what the new electronics showroom will be called (name of the company.)

I also need names of companies from the following: Harvey (farms).

Finally, for Martin, I need him to choose where he wants to live! I numbered them in the above picture, just let me know!

Turn Five

Population: 630
GDP: $2,520,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Police Station

As the town has grown and expanded, so has the number of people opening businesses. As you can see from the pictures above, Hank Garvei has finished construction on his showroom and opened up Garvei Electronics. Right next to him, Ahmad Yamini bought the piece of land located at 10 Main Street and will be opening up Citi-Furniture in 6 months.

On the other side of town, Hi-Fashion, owned by Warren Franks, has opened up for business. Their plans for expansion, however, will have to run through the new Customs Inspector at the  Rawa'a Pier. He has invested in real estate, acquiring 1002 Main Street for $12,000. Just north of Hi-Fashion is Seaside Restaurant, owned by Jim Franks, and on the corner of Trait Lane and Jalmi Lane, the residence of Chris Khassem, owner of the Khassem Inn is under construction. The land, which cost $2,000, is 200 sq. meters, and his home will cost $80,000 upon completion. Chris Khassem is currently the richest person in Rawa'a.

Elsewhere, the Rawa'a Primary School has opened its doors for business. The initial enrollment was 74 students through all grades. The project, which cost the Dunyan government, cost $700,000 and was publicly opened by King Edward Ezamsi. Across Madrasa Street, which was recently paved, is the Rawa'a Police Station #1, scheduled to open in 6 months. The small station set the government back $500,000.

The expansion of the town has led to further paving of roads by the government, and they recently opened up a new road called First Street, between Corner and Madrasa Streets.

Nice to see all of the expansion!  Looks like there were many new, different businesses opened.  I'll probably be treating my land as a investment when land values go up, not sure if I'll be opening one in the future yet.

In terms of keeping your land, you can do whatever you wish with it :)

Your land is your land - even if the area around it becomes skyscrapers and its worth $100,000,000 and you wish to keep it, no one can force you to do anything!

Rawa'a is certainly starting to develop, which is why the official price of lands on Main Street between Edward Ezamsi and Corner Streets, as well as parts of those two streets, has risen $200 per plot. A 1x1 plot, which was worth $1,000, is not worth $1,200!

Growing and growing. :) I better get a slice of that land before prices soar even more. ()stsfd() When the government gets some more money I would look at expanding the docks next. :)

Just a question, how do you get 630 people from the small amount of housing there? I would add in some more of those shacks around the place.
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Five)
Post by: nedalezz on August 04, 2011, 04:50:58 PM
I calculate it as 10 people per shack, although I think I might be a bit generous with that count :) Dont worry, the next turn the towns population wont increase much, but there will be more development.

Naturally, the development will spread west and east, along the shore, Ernst!

Turn Six

Population: 760
GDP: $3,040,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Housing Projects

The government has certainly put in a lot of work these past 6 months, expanding the road infrastructure in Rawa'a and officially opening up the Rawa'a Police Station #1. On Main Street, the government has contracted Salford Construction to develop a housing project costing $225,000, or $75,000 per residence. The government plans to rent each residence out for $5,000 annually, or $2,500 per 6 months (or turn.) The government has always has plans to develop land around the Bank of Dunya as well, and has developed some residences for its employees (including Martin, Meade, and Terrell) near the police station. The shacks on the land will be destroyed, but it is unclear what the government plans to develop in their place.

Development in and around central Rawa'a has continued, with 2 new businesses beginning construction on their properties. The BuyPlus Supermarket, owned by Hashem Saidi, will be the largest showroom in the city when it is completed in 6 months. Saidi will be in direct competition with Areameder and Garvei, both of who operate stalls that sell the Life Neccessity products that BuyPlus Supermarket will sell. The other business opening up on Corner Street is Dillon Hardware, owned by Brian Dillon. The 200 square meter showroom will sell exactly what it advertises: hardware products.

Clarence Fruit Farms has also opened for business northwest of the town, owned by Henry Clarence. The 4,200 square meter plot will harvest fruits and sell to the local market, slightly reducing imports. Locally grown products cost less than imported products, the news will be welcomed by residents of Rawa'a.

On the southern side of town, Chris Khassem has finished work on his $80,000 home and has become the first person in town to construct and move into his own residence. Khassem, who is the richest man in town with an estimated worth of $300,000, owns and operates the 12 room Khassem Inn, which is the only place in town that one can stay at. The bar/restaurant that he operates in the inn has also been a success, but with the opening of the new Seaside Restaurant, owned by Jim Howard, it remains to be seen whether there will be a drop in clients.

Turn Seven

Population: 840
GDP: $3,360,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: DOIL Gas Station

Central Rawa'a as begun to take shape, and during the mornings, when most of the town crowds onto Main and Corner Streets to do their business, the energy and buzz can be felt. The construction on the 3 houses the government was building to rent out has been done, thanks to the efficient hand of Salford Construction. Although they are still unoccupied, given the lack of quality residences in Rawa'a, they won't be for long.

Kim Presston has opened up the largest farm in Dunya west of town and just north of the Geothermal Power Plant. The farm, located on Edward Ezamsi Street, is made up of 3 different lands, combined to make one farm. In total, the farm is 51 plots, or 5,100 sq. meters. Presston will be in direct competition with Clarence as they both own fruit farms.

The government has registered its first company, the Dunya Oil Company, or DOIL. Construction on a petrol station on the corner of Edward Ezamsi Street and Drift Lane has already begun, and approximately $120,000 will be invested in it. DOIL has already ordered oil that will last the country 6 months.

Turn Eight

Population: 1,022
GDP: $4,292,400 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 520
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: The Dunya Daily Building

The most evident change in Rawa'a over the past few months is the farms that have popped up to the north and west of the town. While most of them are harvesting fruits and vegetables, the town also saw the opening of 3 new ranches, as well as its first registered fishing company, owned by David Davis. The annual demand for Life Neccessity (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, liquids) products is approximately $2,450,000, of which $820,000 is for fruits and vegetables. The local market is now growing almost 35% of all fruits and vegetables, something that will surely start to reflect on the prices of the products for the consumer.

Closer to the center of town, construction is nearly everywhere one looks. To the south of the Royal Residence, a small affluent residential neighborhood has developed around the Khassem Residence on Trait and Jalmi Lanes. The construction material is all imported, including the wood used to construct the houses. Terrence Salford, owner of Salford Construction, also just completed his own residence on his 400 sq. meter (2x2) land on the corner of Edward Ezamsi Street and Drift Lane. It cost $120,000 upon completion, excluding the worth of the land. The government has recently contracted Salford Construction to develop its $250,000 project on Edward Ezamsi Street that will house its newspaper, the Dunya Daily. Set to go off into circulation within the next few months, it will be Dunya's first puplication.

A milestone was reached in Rawa'a over the past few months as the population grew past 1,000 residents. It was also marked by the increase in GDP per person for the first time ever, growing from $4,000 annually to $4,200.

Finally, here is the Dunya Information sheet for Turn Eight!

Turn Nine

Population: 1,203
GDP: $5,052,600 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 610
Education Level: Lowest

The last 6 months has seen a number of residents move out the basic government shacks and in to their own houses, as evident by the residential neighborhood that has developed to the south and west of the Royal Residence. Jalmi Lane and Edward Ezamsi Street have become popular choices for the those wanting to build their own homes, especially the southern part of the town.

Across the Rawa'a Primary School, a new comic book and sports card shop has been opened by David Darnell, a new immigrant to town who has acquired a 2x1 land on Drift Lane. The choice for opening the store across from the primary school was that he wanted to be as close to his target market as possible.

King Edward Ezamsi has promised that studies are underway for the construction of a larger dock after meeting with the businessmen of Rawa'a last month. He said that their demands for a new dock is justified as the current pier has had large problems handling the growing number of imports into Dunya. The pier is currently over capacity and pretty soon will be unable to meet the demands of the town due to its basic and undersized facilities.

I will leave you with the overview shot of Rawa'a, along with a mosaic of the CBD of the town. Enjoy!

Turn Ten

Population: 1,467
GDP: $6,161,400 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 660
Education Level: Lowest

Under the initiative set by King Edward Ezamsi which gives all government employees access to loans that allows them to buy small plots of land and construct their own houses on them, Rawa'a has seen a burst in the construction sector currently occupied by the government and Salford Construction Company. The loans are typically repaid over a span of 12 to 13 years, and have generally been for around $80,000 to $100,000. The Bank of Dunya has announced large profits due to the substantial amount of loan repayments.

The CBD of Rawa'a has slowly taken a life of its own, and nowadays it is filled with small stores carrying fashion, electronics, groceries, hardware, and even a pharmacy. There have also been 3 restaurants that have opened for business along Main Street, overlooking the tranquil Indian Ocean. While the bustle during the day time is expected for a town whose commercial activity is completely revolved around the stretch between Edward Ezamsi Street and First Street along Main Street, the activity and buzz after the sun goes down is a new thing to Rawa'a.

The government recently unveiled its plan to satisfy the religious needs of its people, giving the approval for the construction of both a church and mosque. Both will be constructed near the Rawa'a Police Station, with the church on Madrasa Street and the mosque on First Street. They will cost $750,000 and $500,000 upon completion, respectively. With Dunya being a country of mixed faith, the government wanted to send a message that there was no preferences when it came to those different faiths, and that all Dunyans are one.

Also on First Street will be the government's largest investment yet; the Rawa'a Central Hospital. The hospital, which is scheduled for completion a year and half from now, will cost approximately $1,000,000. It covers a total of 900 square meters, including the parking area, and will feature and Emergency Room, as well as a Surgery Department. King Edward Ezamsi will open it personally.

Land prices around the CBD have jumped from $1,200 a plot to $1,500 a plot. Everything on Main Street from Edward Ezamsi to First Street, as well as parts of Corner Street, will benefit in this increase in prices. Additionally, prices in south Rawa'a have also risen to $1,200 per plot.

Title: Re: Updates (Turn Ten)
Post by: nedalezz on August 13, 2011, 11:09:14 AM
Yep! Influence will be able to be used in a number of ways, which I will introduce as the game plays out. But what it is primarily used for, is for politics. Basically, the influence can be used to work your way up the political ladder. At some point, there will be elections, and there will be a vote for Prime Minister. Ofcourse, real players are free to run! With the Prime Minister role comes power ;) such as decision making in terms of development of the town. As the town grows, construction will need permits - lets say you bought a piece of land in a residential neighborhood, and you want to build a nightclub, or a ranch. Most likely, your permit will be denied. The Prime Minister will have such powers!

Hi NEDALEZZ and everyone. I've just read all your posts and are very impressed with your Dunya project.

I would like to join this project with my girlfriend, too. I saw you mentioned marriage and stuff, so I was wondering if it is possible that we arrive to DUNYA as a married couple. I would like for my ingame name to be Nemanya Woynitsch and I would like to be a trader.

If you accepted our offer she would register to SC4devotion. also can we see which houses are available to buy/rent and the prices.

thank you and sorry if this was the wrong thread.

Hey!

Sure, you can definitely join up as married couple!

Everyone starts out with a default $20,000 - as a trader you can invest in a Market Stall ($1,500) and sell Life Neccessities, or request a loan from the Bank of Dunya to open up a showroom (1x1, or 100 sq. meters, goes for $50,000) and sell whatever you'd like :)

As for your wife, will she be having her own job, or will you be operating your businesses as a family?
Title: Re: Updates (Turn Ten)
Post by: nemanjanv7 on August 15, 2011, 06:32:18 AM
Excellent!!!

She will now make an account on SC4 Dev ;).

I will take a loan ($50.000) and open up a showroom. Maybe call it "Woynitsch Optics" and sell sunglasses and optical glasses if possible. As for my wife, her ingame name will be Adella, and she will be Government worker. She studied ecology (but king doesn't approve her diploma, yet ;P), so she could work as inspector in GT plant, water pump or something similar. If there is money left we would also like to enrolle school. Not sure how much it is, though

P.S. can we pick where to live? and I suppose we can live in the same house, right? As Woynitsch household.
  :)

Great!

Unless you take out a larget loan and build yourself a house, Im not really following up on residents of shacks - it gets too much of a hassle, since they demolished every turn and plopped every turn. But yes, you will be living in the same house, so certain expenses will be shared :)

School is $1,000 per turn for each person for 8 turns.

Ok, then we will buy a nice house a bit LATER. She's made an account and both of us are currently logged in ;)

- For now we will take a loan of $60.000, open "Woynitsch optics" luxury store for $50.000. T-intersection Madrassa str and Cross str.  ()stsfd()
- Both of us will go to school
- and we buy as much luxuries for the store as our money can buy (I hope all get sold).
- Adella will be government employee (GT plant inspector) , I mentioned that already.

Turn Eleven

Population: 1,644
GDP: $7,233,600 ($4,400 per person annually)
Labor Force: 740
Education Level: Lowest

The government's money continues to be poured into its developments around the Police Station #1 and the Rawa'a Primary School, with the Central Mosque and the House of Christ Church scheduled for completion in 6 months, at the cost of $500,000 and $700,000, respectively. The bigger project, the Rawa'a Central Hospital, is slated to be open in about a year's time, at the cost of $1,000,000. King Edward Ezamsi has continued to promote the hospital as the town's most important development thus far, citing that there will be nation-wide healthcare coverage and insurance for every citizen of Dunya. The approximate cost annually for each person is not yet known, but the King has promised that it will be affordable for everyone.

The government has also thrown a little money towards the beautification and security of its Geothermal Plant and Water Pump. After a resident was caught without clearance near the pump, measures have been taken to make sure the area is sealed off to everyone but employees and people with clearances to be on the premises. The new fence has been put up along with grass and trees, making the plant truly green.

Several businesses have opened their doors the past couple of years, and the last 6 months have been no exception. With the commercial sector booming compared to the relative size of the town, competition amongst the businesses is growing, and for the first time, the economic growth has exceeded the population growth and its ability to spend, relative to each other. The commercial growth can be attributed to a growing number of businesses selling luxury products, as opposed to life necessity products, which still has huge potential that has not been realized.

The GDP grew again the past six months, with the average Dunyan making $4,400 per year. Most of the income goes towards the necessities, such as food and petrol. Foreign investment has remained minimal, and will continue to be until the country can afford to develop at least an airstrip to get people in and out of Dunya quickly. For now, the Rawa'a has a population of 1,644 and growing, with an emerging middle class that could help the GDP grow.

King Announces Marriage

King Edward Ezamsi has announced to the general public that he has married Dora Helmi, now Queen Dora Helmi Ezamsi, in a secret ceremony held at the Royal Residence over the past weekend. The announcement comes as no surprise, as the King has been hinting over the past year about the upcoming ceremony.

The King, who is aged 32, was wed in front of a crowd of 250 people to Queen Dora, aged 25. She hails from the northern part of the island and belongs to the Helmi tribe of nomads. They met during a ball the King held in celebration of all Dunyans who were continuing their higher education overseas. The Queen graduated from the University of Cambridge in the UK with a Masters Degree in Economics.

Although the honeymoon has not been announced, there is speculation that the newly-weds will head to the Seychelles and then South Africa. Congratulations to the new royal couple!

As Rawa'a approaches 2,000 residents, the government has begun developing projects that raise the living standard of the town as whole. The Rawa'a Central Hospital is nearing completion, and the $1,000,000 the government has poured into the health facility is sure to pay dividends. Just across the street from the hospital, the House of Christ Church and the Central Mosque have both opened their doors for worshippers of the two most prominent faiths in Dunya. As a symbol of unity and togetherness, King Edward Ezamsi opened both religious buildings in the presence of both Christian and Muslim scholars and religious figures.

Two new stores have opened for business the past few months, one of Edward Ezamsi Street and the other on Madrasa Street. Areameder Imports and Woynitsch Optics, respectively, are the latest in a growing number of trading companies that have found Rawa'a a good place to do business. Areameder Imports will be importing foods and provisions, while Woynitsch Optics will be dealing in eyewear, both practical and fashion related.

As the Rawa'a's population grows, so does the expansion of the town. Most noticeably, it is southern Rawa'a that has really become popular with the town's middle and upper classes, but slow development has also enveloped the northern outskirts of the town as well. Rental prices remain relatively low, with a normal house going for $5,000 a year in the southern part of town, and for around $3,000 to $4,000 in other parts.

The Rawa'a Dock

The Dunyan government has announced the expansion of the Rawa'a Pier will begin in the upcoming few months, with the estimated date of completion around a year from now. With the increase in ocean traffic to the island, the current wooden planks can no longer accommodate the number of imports coming into Rawa'a.

The new Rawa'a Dock will cost around $1,000,000, but the new set up will be able to accommodate $2,000,000 worth of goods a month ($12,000,000 a turn), a vast improvement from the amount it can handle now. The location will remain the same, and the construction will be done over 2 phases.

The government has also announced that will be investing in the road network of the town in the upcoming months, paving dirt paths and extending roads.

Excellent. People at the old dock were complaining about Dave Davis' habit of tossing sacks of fish down from the boat's bridge. Apparently things were starting to get messy.

Turn Thirteen

Population: 2,189
GDP: $10,016,864 ($4,576 per person annually)
Labor Force: 985
Education Level: 0.04 out of 4

The completion of the Central Hospital, which cost a total of $1,000,000 over 1 and a half years, has been met with much appreciation from the public. King Edward Ezamsi also announced the Dunya Healthcare Initiative, which will cover all Dunyan residents, commencing in the new few months. All government employees receive free healthcare, while everyone else will pay a mandatory $50 a month ($300 a turn) to cover their healthcare costs.

Rawa'a's development has always been linked to its docks, and they have gotten an extreme makeover. The new Rawa'a Port, which was estimated to have cost $1,000,000, can now handle up to $2,000,000 worth of imports a month, raising the ceiling that had befallen the commercial industry of the town. The port, locally known as The Docks, will serve the country for the foreseeable future, and rumors of a larger port being developed by the government north of the town have been denied.

Speculators have suggested the prices around the CBD will skyrocket to $2,000 per plot (1x1) given the lack of land available in the area. The town has been promoting its northern areas to potential businesses, citing easy access to the port on Main Street and big potential for growth as the city spreads in that direction. Farmland has eaten up most of the land surrounding Rawa'a to its west, but there are rumors that some farms will be willing to sell their land, albeit at a premium, for cheaper land more inland.

The government, which a few years ago developed some houses to rent out to the general public on Main Street, is putting all 4 pieces of land up for sale. Below is the information:

1)   15 Main Street: 200 square meters (2x1), $100,000.
2)   16 Main Street: 200 square meters (2x1), $90,000.
3)   17 Main Street: 200 square meters (2x1), $90,000.
4)   18 Main Street: 400 square meters (2x2), $130,000.

Land Prices Increase

Prices in the southern Rawa'a neighborhood, which has been popularly called by the locals as Treelane, have taken a sharp turn upwards, with plots going for $1,500-$1,600 nowadays. The houses, mostly middle class two storey buildings, have been in demand, with some locals making up to $15,000 to $20,000 on profit selling them to interested buyers. The neighborhood is the most sought after address in town, with close proximity to the Royal Residence a short walk or drive away from central Rawa'a. The Martin family, which owns a 2,500 square meter land on Main Street, initially bought the land for $25,000, but it is now worth north of $40,000 if they ever choose to sell.

In northern Rawa'a, prices have also started to increase slightly, with plots generally selling for $1,200 these days. The government has been offering discounted prices for lands further inland to be used for farming and ranching, hoping to meet the market through locally grown products, hoping to drive down prices.

Wow, I've just checked the map thread. I didn't realize at first that Rawa'a has so little land. So I could help asking: Is Rawa'a going to be only a harbor town or will you make Rawa'a city in multiple lands. I am very curious how you are gonna develop region. If there will be a lot of small settlements, some cities, is there gonna be a metropolis in Dunya maybe etc. Also I guess cities will grow along the coast and not inland. Farms take place inland, right?

P.S. I'm glad that you marked Adella's new farm :). Very nice

Rawa'a is going to be over multiple tiles, thats my guess. I definitely have plans to develop other settlements (might not be that far into the future, either!) I have also left alot of space to the east of Dunya's main island - Im figuring at some point, I'll introduce the second island and set up a city there as well. For the record, you wil be able to own businesses and land in all these settlements :)

Turn Fourteen

Population: 2,636
GDP: $12,294,304 ($4,664 per person annually)
Labor Force: 1,187
Education Level: 0.06 out of 4

The government's initiative to offer land at discounted prices for farming has been a relative success, with quite a few farms developing along the newly paved stretch of road leading west out of town. The farms, located on Edward Ezamsi Street, now contributed almost 30% of Dunya's fruits and vegetables supply, with the rest imported. King Edward Ezamsi has lauded the efforts of his government to promote locally produced products, and hinted that prices for the products were sure to drop in the near future as more farms develop.

Inside of town, the population of Rawa'a continues to spike, as does the land value. Recent assessments have plots in and around the CBD being valued at around $3,000, and plots in Treelane at $2,000. As the population begins to reach 3,000 residents, development in northern and southern Rawa'a, along the coast, has begun springing up. A second construction company has opened its doors for business in Dunya, Clearview Properties, and its first projects have been private ones, with people building homes on the plots that they own. Their offices  can be found at 40 Edward Ezamsi Street.

Overall, progress has been steady in Dunya's only settlement, with the government recently taking on beautification projects around the city. Grass is being grown around residential neighborhoods, and lots of trees are being planted. With substantial water found in the soil underneath the ground, there hasn't been much hassle in getting the plants to grow.

P.S. if it's not a problem could you send me the links where you downloaded Greenhouse farm (Clarence fruit farms) and those shacks (I noticed some of them don't requir road, how did you do that?)

Turn Fifteen

Population: 3,066
GDP: $15,299,340 ($4,990 per person annually)
Labor Force: 1,340
Education Level: 0.07 out of 4

The government's latest project, Treelane High School, will open its doors to the public next semester, with King Edward Ezamsi heralding the advancement of education for each Dunyan citizen a "must." The King, who gave a speech alongside Queen Dora, announced that the $1,000,000 project on Plant Road will allow the citizens of Rawa'a to continue to further their education, and will also allow the living standard of the town to continue to rise.

A farm has been put up for sale by the owners, the Verdi family, on Third Street in northern Rawa'a. The Verdi family is looking to take advantage of the government's initiative that offers discounted farmland more in land, and have put the land up for sale in hopes of raising the capital to acquire a bigger land. All interested party can contact the Verdi family directly or through the government's real estate office (the Business Board!)

As the town continue to expand, mostly to the south and north, poorer residents (and all of you RL lot!) have been pushed north, a where a growing shanty town has to be of some concern to the government and the King. The shanty town, nicknamed Desert Town because of its location away from the roads and development of Rawa'a, holds over 1,400 people within in its borders. All shacks have to pay a monthly rate to the government because they have been built on government land, and despite the best efforts of the government to make sure everyone has decent and affordable housing, Desert Town continues to grow.

Turn Sixteen

Population: 3,774
GDP: $19,020,960 ($5,040 per person annually)
Labor Force: 1,698
Education Level: 0.08 out of 4

After reacquiring the Verdi land in northern Rawa'a for the listed price of $60,000, the government turned round and sold all the plots. Residents have popped up in northern Rawa'a, for the first time, at a faster rate than the Treelane neighborhood in the south, although the trend is unlikely to continue. The Verdi family have taken advantage of the government's farm initiative and have begun operating a farm to the west of Rawa'a.

Making good on their promise to give the clients of the Bank of Dunya a bigger and more efficient building, the government has opened the new Bank of Dunya branch found at 6 Edward Ezamsi Street, on land bought from the Woynitsch family. Their used to be a farm on that land, initially owned by the Terrell family, then the Woynitsch family, but the recent construction of the building, along with the new showroom for WD Agro Limited, Dunya's first partnership business between the Davis and Woynitsch families, has expanded the CBD westward.

Finally, here is a comparison between the two cross-border shots – taken one year apart!

Turn Seventeen

Labor Force: 1,873
Education Level: 0.08 out of 4

After seeing the success the Verdi family had in selling their farm and setting up a new one to the west of Rawa'a, the Grover family has followed suit and is looking at selling their 70 plots in northern Rawa'a as well. The price for the land is $84,000 – the money will be used to acquire a much larger land for farming to the west.

Congratulations to the Terrell family, who have completed their acquisition of 1020 Drift Lane – their very own residence! The recently built house was constructed by the government, and its sale is representative of the popularity of the Treelane neighborhood as the area for middle and upper class families.

The new power plant that King Edward Ezamsi announced has started to take shape. Located to the north of Rawa'a, the plant is expected to cost the government $4 million upon completion in 2 years time.

Turn Eighteen

Population: 5870
GDP: $29,878,300 ($5,090 per person annually)
Labor Force: 2642
Education Level: 0.09 out of 4

The Grover land has been bought out by the Baker family – most of it, at least. The government took back the eastern edge of the land and has extended Hansford Street all the way to Kearson Drive. It has also constructed affordable, high density housing as it looks to battle the growing problem that is Desert Town. Reasonable success has been achieved, but a lot more housing will have to be constructed in order to get rid of the shanty town developing on the northern edge of Rawa'a.

Rawa'a's population has skyrocketed to 5,870 residents the past few months, and that has taken its toll on the general infrastructure of the town. The King, however, has announced plans to rapidly expand the transportation network, and there has been talk about initiating a public transportation scheme.

Labor Force: 3,223
Education Level: 0.09 out of 4

The most evident change the past few months in Rawa'a has been the expansion of the downtown area, which we will be reviewing in further detail in the next update. Where the Bank of Dunya used to be is a new building, and the land that was for sale by the government have been sold and developed.

The government is also ready to start developing its own building near the Central Mosque and House of Christ Church. The project would take about 2 years after the groundbreaking, and the initial cost would be around $1 million.

Rawa'a now has 2 developed residential neighborhoods – the lower/middle class Hansford neighborhood, named after Hansford Street that cuts directly through it, and the more affluent Treelane neighborhood in southern Rawa'a.

Turn Twenty

Population: 10,495
GDP: $53,944,300 ($5,140 per person annually)
Labor Force: 4,723
Education Level: 0.1 out of 4

Celebrating ten years of independence, Dunya has now officially passed the ten thousand residents mark, achieving one of the primary goals of development King Edward Ezamsi had set for his government. There have been numerous developments the past year, with most of it based in the center of Rawa'a involving commercial activity. The Jawad Building, constructed by the Jawad family, sits on the former site of the Bank of Dunya, on the corner of Main and Edward Ezamsi Streets. The building contains some apartments on the upper floors, and 3 stores on the ground floor. Further down Main Street sits the McCormick Building, built by the McCormick family. Although the architecture is drastically different than the Jawad Building (given the owners' European background), the premise is the same. They have rented a large showroom on the ground floor, and each floor above that has 4 apartments for rent. Finally, the Yassar Building, situated on the corner of First Street and Cross Lane, has officially taken the title of tallest building in Rawa'a, standing at 4 floors. It is also the costliest private development in the history of Dunya, costing the Yassar family $800,000 upon completion. Unlike the first 2 development mentioned, the Yassar Building is exclusively an office facility, with the ground floor used by the Yassar family for their new marketing company. The rest of the floors have 3 offices per floor.

The other new developments have been the farmlands on Fairview Road, to the northwest of Rawa'a. The new farms owners include the Grover and Verdi families, both of which had sold farms closer to the town in order to take advantage of the government initiative that gives discounted land for agricultural development further out of town.

As Rawa'a continues to develop, so does the demand for land closer to the center of the town. Land prices continue to rise, and the unofficial price now stands at $5,000 per plot, a far cry from the $1,000 per plot that a lot of land owners had bought their land at.  The extra income generated by taxes and other income has allowed the government to finish up its Power Plant and make lots of headway on the new Rawa'a International Airport, which is becoming closer to finishing. The next few months should see the completion of both projects.
