Title: papab2000's Map Place - New Map Released - Morocco-Spain (Straight of Gibraltar)
Post by: papab2000 on September 25, 2008, 10:34:17 PM
I will be posting previews of maps that will be released in the near future. All the maps I will be working on are real places on Earth, using DEM data to capture the terrain and elevations. Most will be released in multi packs, some together with other mappers on the NHP team. Feel free to let me know what you think of the maps.

Here are a couple that I have been working on for starters:

This is an island I found out in the South Pacific

PS : You may find interesting to change the colors settings in SC4TF view ( somewhere in our private threads )

Both maps are excellent.

This first one looks very buildable too. I can imagine a tropical paradise developed on it. And the second one is really something out of the ordinary. VERY good choice for a map with that isolated lake in the middle of the desert.

Whitefish by far is the best map of the bunch   Perfect terrain mod to use on it and the detail of the terrain is outstanding.  If you want, we can package that one up with the other Montana maps I've completed [there's 4 of them so far I think :P ].  Guess I need to get that list of finished maps completed pronto ::)  Excellent job on these

LoneRanger: South Padre Island will be posted in a mega pack with a couple of blade2k5's maps in Texas

blade2k5: Sure I will get Whitefish ready for you

Yet again: very good maps. I'm not sure about the small lakes scattered over the South Padre Island though. Maybe they are a little too much. But the Whitefish map... WOW! So much potential for actual gameplay, despite the roughness too. Bravo! &apls

Thank you Emil, the South Padre Island area is just as you see, it is a nice map for those that like bridges, coast line, and flat land to build on.  ;)

I have some of China, Cuba, Italy, Panama, Peru, and a bunch of miscellaneous islands from around the world. I have pretty much downloaded data of the whole world so I can make maps of almost anything.  ;)

Heblem,

Maybe you could do a couple of Mexico Pak's. You know the country side better then we do. There has to be a lot of great maps from Mexico. Keep in mind that these have already been done: La Paz, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. I can help to, I have all the DEM data already.  ;) You pick the places and we will go from there.

Heblem,

Yes that is some list you have there but it can be done.  ;) Just let me know what you are working on so I don't duplicate.  :)  I am thinking we should start a new thread for this project.

Wow, impressive list there Heblem.  Outside of La Paz, others in Mexico I've done are Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.  I'm not sure about Los Cabos ()what() though. unless that's one of the Cabo's I listed above.

On a side note Rich, I've also done a few maps of Brazil, Baiade & Sepetiba, Mazagao & Macapa, Porto Alegre,  Rio and Salvador, all cities along the coast.  I'm currently mapping the the entire Amazon River from it's mouth at the Atalntic, to it's headwaters in the Andes.  And lastly, I'm working on some interior maps of Venezuela plus Caracus and it's surrounding areas.

"Los Cabos", San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas  ;)

Venezuela you can do:
Caracas
Maracaibo
Barquisimeto
Valencia

Also Perú is a beautiful country, you can do places like:
Trujillo
Chimbote
Lima
Arequipa

As for Brazil don't forget to do Belo Horizonte, Recife, Belém and Fortaleza  :)

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.

Belo Horizonte, Recife, Belém, Sao Paulo and Fortaleza are also on the hit list.  Rich has done Lima already and I'm also working on covering a majority the Andes from one end to the other.  As for Venezuela, Caracas is near completion and I couldn't remember the names of the other major cities in the country.

Hello, papab2000.

As I mentioned earlier to emilin, the NHP has most certainly benefited by the addition of your talent.  Your map-making skills are absolutely excellent.  Also, you have such a diversity in what you make.  I've followed your released and am very impressed with your islands, East of Reno series and the recent work you've been doing with Blade2K5.  Not only are your maps very detailed and appealing to the eye, they afford the SC4 "player" the opportunity to develop very interesting regions.

Congratulation on a wonderful portfolio of maps and for all the time and effort you've made in creating them.  I'm sure the SC4 community appreciates your efforts as well.  I know that I certainly do.

Have a great day!

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

Gary,

Thank you so much.  :)  I am glad you appreciate the maps.  ()stsfd() Troy and I spent many hours on those maps and it is good to see that SC4 player like them.  :) Yes they do give the user many opportunities to play many types of terrain and real cities, and of the world. We have many more done and in the works but we can't just saturate the LEX & STEX so we release a few at a time.  ;)

Thanks on behalf of NHP and myself,
Rich
Title: papab2000's Map Place - Preview of Mt Cook New Zealand

Blade and I just finished this beautiful map of Mt Cook and want to show it off. This map is 10 x 11 Large tiles. Here is some info on this area:

Aoraki/Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It lies in the Southern Alps, the mountain range which runs the length of the South Island. A popular tourist destination, it is also a favorite challenge for mountain climbers. Aoraki/Mt Cook consists of three summits lying slightly south and east of the main divide, the Low Peak, Middle Peak and High Peak, with the Tasman Glacier to the east and the Hooker Glacier to the west.

That turned out a lot better than I thought it was going to in regards to enough playable space for a mountainous region.  Because of it's size, this looks to be a stand-alone release, a perfect candidate for a LEX Exclusive.  Anyways, you did a great job on it Rich

Just to make a quick note, the mod used to render this map was a modified version of Cycledog's Meadowshire Terrain mod.  The modification raised the snow level to a higher elevation.

EDIT:  Congrats & Welcome to Page 4

Thanks M   When I originally converted the DEM to make the Sapporo West map, it was soon realized that I had missed a good portion of the city, so since we couldn't have that, papab went ahead and did the eastern half to cover the rest of the city.  Now, users have a much larger area of Sapporo to develop and have fun with.
