Title: The Sovereign States of Hawaii
Post by: KoV Liberty on March 15, 2013, 10:48:20 PM
Hello all, as you may or may not know, I started an MD (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=8101.0) here about...

3 years 9 months 1 day 3 hours 27 minutes 29 seconds ago.

     or  3.7 years
     or  45.0 months
     or  195.7 weeks
     or  1,370.1 days
     or  32,883.4 hours
     or  1,973,007.4 minutes
     or  118,380,449 seconds

According to a date calculation website. Okay. I'm trying to be funny. It probably hasn't garnered your attention, I'm just nervous.

Anyways it made it to classics and I was really really happy about it. I even envisioned the HoF one day but I don't think that would ever come to term, even now. I regret saying this, but I lost interest. I really did. It was going well, then I realized that my region in the beginning, wasn't very good. I couldn't terraform. Heck, even the location wouldn't line up right on a map. So, I built a new map from one on the STEX. It was Mumbai, and it was fun to build on, then I reset a tile's boundaries with a new city tile I imported and then I couldn't re-align the boundaries because of SC4Mapper maps having a CTD when you redo the city tile borders. So it rendered my who work on the region useless if it didn't line up properly.

So, I had the region fall into disarray. I wanted to have it be a green map and have fauna and trees and life, but I couldn't make it happen very well, I'm not good at that sort of thing. And I'm not very good at making a Middle-Eastern MD (sorry if you haven't realized this before, but again you should have gone to the link that was said before. Again sorry to be blunt, but I'm quite sarcastic.) when I like western housing, buildings, and building style. So that also went out the window. It was a unique MD but in a place it didn't belong. So I have decided to scrap it.
TL;DR: I got bored with it.

So, I'm opening up a new MD here in the Recents section. I feel that if I had just annexed it onto Atrubia, it would be cheating, much the same way I felt with Atrubia's new map. So, I present to you a short preview of the Sovereign States of Hawaii. More ont hat later, and why the Burj Dubai is in the pucture, but we'll gloss over that. It is Hawaii, it is my MD. And it is my way that Hawaii would be done today. So I bid you all...

Welcome back to the MD creation

I only saw the latest updates of Atrubia and I now have been watching the first. I find very interesting the originality of your cities and the shoreline and I like the idea of a tropical region. Nowadays there is a larger quantity of tropical and underwater MMP than in 2009.

Update 1.00

Replies:

Kergelen: Why thank you, and yeah there are a lot more than in 2009. Frankly, I'm glad I'm starting over. It's difficult going back through all the cities and trying to MMP all of the areas I  left blank. It's even more difficult when desert cities still are not catered for. I had fun, but it's time to move on.

I'll be starting a bit of a mini series on this MD as well, what song I listen to while I play/update. :P Why not?

Today's Song (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&ved=0CFcQtwIwBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNzb-VmUCaxM&ei=O9hJUdmIDIaQ9QTprYHIDg&usg=AFQjCNGzQb2r6g5m0Hfh1TvHiETE2r8Uvg&sig2=_alA6jBNrC1QS5y0ZyOdkg&bvm=bv.44011176,d.eWU)

Now moving onto said update with a little bit of backstory.

The year is 2016, a new president has recently been elected after 44th President Barack H. Obama ended his last term in office. The new president, was sworn in a day late due to bad weather in Washington DC. It then becomes apparent that the 45th (that's what we'll call him) was actually not born in the United States, and that he was operating on fake papers. He is then incarcerated. The Vice President comes into power but is then usurped on March 3rd by military coup. In succession, the coup was not completely successful. Many people suspect treason on multiple counts, not just one. Many people were even fine with having a non-'Murican president.

In succession, many states convened in secrecy over the course of the next 4 months. In total, 12 states, which include New York, Texas, Florida, the island of Oahu in Hawaii (due to complications from other islands), New Mexico, California, Arizona, Georgia, Montana, Minnesota, Nevada, and Louisiana secede from the United States of America and form their subsequent own Governments cooperative with the other states. However, the 12 states do not form one large nation, rather 12 independent Sovereign States with a pact to protect one another. This is the Story of the Sovereign State of Hawaii and it's regional conflict with the other islands of Greater Hawaii.

That's where I am at thus far. Nothing else will be said on the matter, but as this MD progresses, more will be unveiled.

There are several ways to reach Honolulu in Waikiki. The primary is by aeroplane, Oahu is dotted by small air strips and fields such as this.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-May29101363661062.jpg&hash=189d3ae93726b181e627fa11f681319e68df909a)

Some larger airlines cater to Honolulu international, just across the island. The small strips are serviced by island hopper jets and the occasional cross-pacific flight. But most of the private aircraft do not leave the Hawaiian island chain, apart from the occassional private jet.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-May29101363661073.jpg&hash=57efc3b8cce30e7b4b0fffa7c9129a55ff0baece)

Other ways, rather long ones, are by personal watercraft. Though usually this type of thing is reserved for millionaires with private oceangoing yachts. However there is a service which transports your smaller craft across the oceans, for a fee of course.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-May29101363661177.jpg&hash=98d552a685324f0a7793d41b69ce129aa32a3e31)

Other, less legal, ways to reach the islands are via cargo ships, such as this. Many illegal immigrants reach Oahu by this way, some are however refugees from the other islands in the chain, which are allowed to stay as long as they have proper paperwork with them to prove who they are.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-May29101363661190.jpg&hash=8526b3f667c0eb574ea70e6036f7b37140fdbd32)

Tourists can stay at a number of hotels right on the beach in Waikiki. From large ones such as the former seen in the preview.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661709.jpg&hash=37ac0428d05cb1a01130fe67e67209bd0e118829)

To classics that have been there for decades...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Nov21101363661305.jpg&hash=f4ab8f8adea0a5f62210c193ab9c10dad2b89878)

To large chain resorts...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661720.jpg&hash=d63399cc4c9437db1608fe4a27df009ee87c876b)

To smaller more affordable ones...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661731.jpg&hash=9ca6fd9f8ab86fc72565803fdd1a69e01eabe926)

Many people can stay here on the beaches, it's one of the main economies here on the island, though tourism has fallen down in wave of the United States collapse. Most the year round residents stay in usual homes. Many of Hawaii has a low build policy, limiting the number of tall buildings in areas.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661791.jpg&hash=d7ad7c1a5cd2e7fb79902cbd46f48b0912c5e5d7)

Many residents live in comfort, with decent traffic and pollution in the cities, and little to none in the countryside, which we'll see more of later.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661783.jpg&hash=40209168a6237cf8c78f543724a05274574307f6)

Most homes that you will find here are two story single family homes.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Nov7101363661913.jpg&hash=8ce5b9577cd02617df96cc2b46a72f534ac0157c)

However rural the islands are, they still have all the comforts of the real world.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct18101363661816.jpg&hash=f83380f31fa1bcc4e1b1421e85bd6b02e307a13f)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct31101363661836.jpg&hash=b9cc1f0b165a6a072f1b0e528fc5b3c221a5ffe4)

And what is this?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Nov11101363661965.jpg&hash=c7d2a43c25f6819c52bcd57f86adb18c0e1ff789)

A rail line? Where could that lead to?

Stay tuned...

Update 1.10

Replies:

Robin: Thanks Robin, I can remember you first being there with Atrubia ever so long ago. I'll be sticking with this one for some time to come. :)

Okay, so no rail line thing this time. :P A bit of a CTD took care of my plans. So back to Waikiki!

The first is of a bit of a reef I did just offshore. My first using NBVC's (I think it's his) underwater flora. I think it came out good.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct9121364791150.jpg&hash=9bdf0cf148020531a9d29829e14513b13ecccd8b)

West end...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct9121364791159.jpg&hash=beacefa4247e2cfc0c0961b1967fed8f0e011a38)

East end...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct9121364791136.jpg&hash=72cb0d0afe2671768de1edff5572874ef8ef4ea2)

The light houses are there to warn passing ships going into the bay and tended by the SSH Coast Guard. Nobody currently lives on them, they are solely used for storing very large and heavy batteries. The reef is also frequented by divers.

Now for a few overviews of the area...

North of the marina... (picture facing East)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Nov4121364791953.jpg&hash=8902ec910d9508e9175441064626eaf704cb57d1)

And Waikiki. (picture facing East)

Two more left in this short update. The second to last is of a recent interchange I did with some of the new RHW. Does anyone else have some glitches with it when dragging it next to another RHW? I seem to, it disappears. The glitch was frustrating but I persevered.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FHonoluluWaikiki-Oct9121364791225.jpg&hash=8c25a007645329e482323562a80aa58f7176f46c)

This may be a preview of the next update where we get to see where this dang rail goes to. :P

Stay tuned...

Good to see a tropical MD going. It's a tough look to achieve, but you seem to be doing it well. You also have my attention with the rail line. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Nice to see you MDing again. I liked your old MD but sometimes you need to start something new. I really like the Hawaii theme. Great start.

Those are some spectacular uses of Tree Props. Well done. I to am interested in the destination of the line. Could it be a passenger or military or industrial?
