Title: Lorraine project
Post by: Sciurus on March 10, 2011, 09:34:47 AM

History

It was the 10th March 2011. I was looking for inspiration for my city's suburbs in the topic "Show us your... suburbs!". So many pics of so many different houses and suburbs: american ones, european ones, asiatic ones, etc. And I particullary looked after the american ones; I saw indeed little wooded houses, typical from USA, North America generally. Then, as I was building a european city, I wondered: "Guillaume, why don't you do the same with french houses?". And this afternoon of this day, I did a little house, which comes from the Parisian suburb. That's how this project was born.
But to do suburbs, you must first make a city-center. And there, I had a second idea: doing some mid-rise buildings for little european centers. I'm searching about some ones, because I didn't begin this part of the project. But I've got some ideas where to search... particullary in Longwy. Most of theses buildings were built during the reconstruction of France in the 50's. Some other buildings date from the 30's, because in this time, the steel industries were developped in my region, and many immigrants from foreign countries (I particullary think about Italy or Poland) came in Longwy to find work.

This was the little story of the "French City Project"

Longwy Buildings

These buildings are from Longwy and its "suburbs" (if we can call this like that! :D ), the cities around this center. Longwy has a very rich history: first and important garrison town with the forticfications of Vauban, commanded by Louis XIV to protect the french territory, then an important industrial town, with its big steel industries. That's why most of the buildings from my region are grey, or very dark, because of the industries orange dust, which covered the fronts and the roofs of the buildings. Why so painting these ones in white? And as it's very cold in winter, dark colours are better to get warm.
These buildings I make can have colours too; nowadays, many many buildings are renovated by little painting companies. The city encourage to renovate these old buildings to make the city more attractive and more touristic.

List of buildings

Nice houses.

They are great.

Post by: Sciurus on June 25, 2011, 05:08:30 AM
After the little houses, let's go to the city center! Before, in almost every french city, there was a garage for cars. There were very useful, because they repaired all, etc. So this little BAT is a garage which is situated 3, rue St-Louis in Longwy.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi306.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn258%2FSciurus54%2FBATs%2FGarage_Moderne.jpg&hash=65168b4481ca572a4492484b6f802b48f09b2a53)

I think it has built during the 20's or 30's, because of its architectural style.
What do you think about this BAT? The next BAT is little café, situated in the city next to Longwy, Herserange (55, rue de Paris).

Guillaume

Post by: supremec on June 25, 2011, 05:21:40 AM
Why you changed the name of your project? And your others Logwy BATs can be in this project, I think.
It's a fabulous and perfect (industrial?) BAT. You can BAT an other BAT  :D
But when we'll build awesome city with your Longwy's BATs?
Title: Re: French city project
Post by: bap on June 25, 2011, 02:31:42 PM
Excellent idea, Scirius.
I am enjoying all related BATs so far. I particularly like your walls and roof tile textures, and the tone of the nightlights. Just a quick question: should't the car garage have a larger garage front door to allow cars to be driven in? Sorry if I didn't get the right scale, but for me it seems the front door is not wide enough for cars.

I am looking forward for the next creations of this theme.
Bap

Post by: Sciurus on June 26, 2011, 08:25:59 AM
@Supremec: Thanks! Yes the other BATs of Longwy can be there, I think I'll do a list of the BATs! $%Grinno$%

@Bap: Thank you very much. Well, I must admit that in many garages, the door is larger. But in France and in Europe generally, cars are not as big as in America (I saw an american Ford last time on a road, it's very big! :o) and as this garage is very old, cars weren't as big as today. If you compare a Citroën 2CV (1.480m) with a Citroën C3 (1.730m) of nowadays, this is not the same tall (30cm more). That's why I prefered to do a little door than a big door.
Thank again to stop by and post there!

Now, another model I did today:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi306.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn258%2FSciurus54%2FBATs%2FRue_Tivoli.jpg&hash=fcf233c9ae286901f06e5857cfe641e24069e155)

This is a little house of Longwy, 41, rue du Tivoli.

Thank you guys! ()stsfd() It's always a pleasure to see this type of comments! :)
Here a little creation I made yesterday afternoon:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi306.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn258%2FSciurus54%2FBATs%2FRue_Moulin.jpg&hash=a112c5bd167a7bed49dd516560f0745be7837ee1)

Yes, it's a little BAT, but I spent a lot of time on working on texture (for example, the front one took me about 45min!)

Enjoy!

Thank you guys!

I've got news:
- For the church, I've almost finished the lights. A pic should come soon.
- For the last BAT, he can be exported and I'll send it to Namspopof for the modding.

For the rest...

This is a part of the 4-5 buildings making up the iron mine of Valleroy. This mine alimented the Longwy's blast-furnaces and the ones of the "Usine de la Providence" of Réhon. This mine has been closed in 1967.

Wow, just discovered this thread and all your BATs are beautifull  &apls

I particulary like the near absence of modern props (antennes, AC units and the like) on the houses. The offices and churches are gorgeous as well and can't wait to see them available in the future. Keep up the good work

Hello guys!  :)

After seeing all of your creations, I had to make BATs again! Unfortunately, I deleteds the house below; I had indeed problems: first with the PIMX, a problem with windows 7, it can't find a .pyt file... I never found the solution. I think I'll use the PluginManager... so as the PIMX can't work I had an idea: I export my BATs and make a prop pack with them, therefore, you can lot the BATs as you want! Sure, you'll have to lot them but this is the own solution I found (for the moment); maybe I'll find another one!

And more, I have a problem with 3DSMax: I cannot export my BATs. I followed all the steps but it doesn't work.. I said: "doesn't matter, make them with Gmax, it's the same!".
So here are 2 BATs (I'm working on another one) from Nancy, the city where I'll live next year and for the 6 next years for my architecture studies, that I hope to succeed!

It's not the Longwy Project, but the Nancy project. (I have to edit my first post btw).

Sciurus has been working on some very interesting stuff lately and his Lorraine project is coming along perfectly.  Let's follow Sciurus in OSITM as this month's CCCer and give as much support as possible!

Thank you everyone, that makes me pleasure!! ;D

As I'm in the OSITM, I'll change a little my plans and I'll suggest you to follow the developpment of my project (which enters in the Lorraine project): the modelling of the ENSA of Nancy (ENSA = National School of Architecture), which will be my school very soon!!

A good school for architects is very needed in Sim City. When you take a close look at most cities you will see that Sims have hardly any to no knowledge of urbanism and architecture....!

Hello everybody !

Meanwhile making TSC's station pack with Krasner, I explore my old folders of BATs and I export and mod the old things I've shown here a long time ago.
So here's a pic showing every BATs that will be released soon I hope. I just have to make some lotting on some ones, be patient $%Grinno$%

I added a BAT on the project I made yesterday, it's Logé Imprimeur, which will be a manufacture for your european industrial zones. I also show here some BAts I never showed before, like La Poste or Gendarmerie Nationale de Longuyon for example, which are very useful to embellish your cities :P

Hope you like it ;)

I'm so glad to see that TSC team revival , with a talented BATer like Krasner is , there's a true style convergence and a palpable collaboration  between you two and that sounds promising  ... promises , promises ... :-\  we are in France in electoral period , you know what I mean ! $%Grinno$%

Seriously , I browsed back these pages where there's a good dozen of BATs I would like to see realised , not to speak about the ones shown at TSC only ...  ::)

OK , you get my vote !  ;D On your other thread , the railway stations are delightfully old-fashioned and the modular platforms system like the creation of new HD props are a sweet melody to any hopeless LOTs editor ears ...
