Title: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: peter007 on October 04, 2010, 03:48:08 AM
Hello everybody. Since this week I'm started to construct buildings in the Build Architect Tool

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg188.imageshack.us%2Fimg188%2F8458%2Fbuildingsnyc01.jpg&hash=c83da6b827cf2cbbef55ac0577a5a3ae3dacedbc)

I'm making buildings from America and these ones are from Brooklyn NY and these pics are based on a real building

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg831.imageshack.us%2Fimg831%2F5450%2Fbuildingsnycreal.jpg&hash=aa316a7bd0b70fe4375b6bb3b1662162d8c8be9c)

Please leave a comment! ;)

Thank you Aaron graham, but when you where writing a comment I was searching for a new project and I found one

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg833.imageshack.us%2Fimg833%2F8057%2Frowhouses.jpg&hash=78a3fe378a8aba121949034765b2843de2279833)

isn't it funny and yes that pink house is going with the pack
It's going without canopies because if you doing this you will miss the regularity

East coast townhouses, I love it!

As for your second project, they look very familiar. Have a look here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1936). Marcszar's are not the same, but still, they're pretty close.

Yes, TiFlo they so much a like in a way.

They're looking good.  There's a couple of things that seem a little odd to me though (but that may just be because I'm not familiar with US housing) - the large window at the rear looks like it is a feature that is too modern for the style, but maybe people put them in(?).  The other thing is the lack of a back door - how do people get into the back garden?

@Buzzit, Thanks for your comment, I'm very glad to hear it

@Aaron Graaham @Tiflo, and yes I am now aware of it but i'm trying to make it so different as posible

@zero7, Yes zero7 you are right and it's adapted here's a pic (is it better now?) (tsjeeh it's looking very ugly when it's not rendered)

Tomorrow a sneak preview of the rowhouses in Washington

I'm glad to see your walls up close. I think you should use a brick texture to your walls since the walls on those row houses you are trying to recreate are birck of course, that might bring the walls out a lot more, just try it out and let see how that works.

Post by: peter007 on October 04, 2010, 10:24:10 PM
@Aaron Graham The walls close up here is at the rear of the house and this part of the house is painted so they don need a brick texture.

Guess what, I got my Computer Science test back and I've got just a wonderful A  &scl()

but Piece of cake when you are batting   ;D

And as promised I'am now showing my building out of washington
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg828.imageshack.us%2Fimg828%2F9643%2Fhousewashington.jpg&hash=1f6b6ad55ba61808eecdb004f6bf3e84e7c0ea86)
This building isn't finished yet it will need some drainpipes of course
but the texturing is finished and something isn't right in this model  ???
If you know it please comment.

I made something extra for my house at washington: a back garden, this will place the house more in a row and then they match better with the original  ()stsfd()

A trick that helps on a lot of those texture problems, is to merge/import the model into a new file.

Hello everybody i'm just here to say i'm alive because I was in hospital for a concussion and this is why my project stopped a little bit  %wrd
but now i'm on and I made a new region with lots of water and I was missing a very special waterfront kit so i'm now trying to make one. This is ver hard because I don't exactly know how to do with texturing but I will probably come out with it, but first the some pics of my just started work

but most of my BATs will stay in my private room and I won't upload much except if there are some people who are asking for it.
I'm also going to make an fictional parliament but thats a surprise.

About thhe WFK that wasn't going well so I took a prop pack from Colyn and I just Lotted something. It's not very exciting and I cannot publish it because it's from someone elso so that a little bit a failure %wrd

Welcome to page 2

Iam in fourth class on school and I was just changing my ciriculum and was certain to get Computer Science but my team leader said that it is´nt useful because I already knew everything.  :P

on-topic
I am a little further with the development of my tower
Here are some pics

Hello everybody The holiday has start so I have plenty of time to amke more and more BATs
My tower gets rest so I can focus on an other project.

like a new kind of plazas and especially the cafés and the shops on the plazas.

I've got a pic from the first café and some things look a little bit odd especially the roof :-[
Does someone know how to fix these textures? Also the nightlighting the lights should be on every night but the shine 24 hours a day  ???
Does someone know to fix this problem to?

(before I forget here are the pictures)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg541.imageshack.us%2Fimg541%2F5025%2Fcafepetite.jpg&hash=5280c717fa4584b09f236a785693c2c3fe51d75f)

Now I'm looking to the building and I see that it could also be a supermarket  &mmm

Hello when I was waiting for an answer I produced a magnific croner lot (at least in my mind) now I'm tryng to make it in the BAT and I have to say that it's very difficult. It's even more difficult that I don't have any pictures

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg683.imageshack.us%2Fimg683%2F9656%2Futopolis.jpg&hash=7541af23d5f68d1eb9b386c130e85270cebee233)

It's a lot of bending work and it's going to be a cinema (or a convention center) %confuso I don't know
The name is UTOPOLIS and you can see that as you enter but now it's a little bit vague :-[

Some development from my work  ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg253.imageshack.us%2Fimg253%2F9656%2Futopolis.jpg&hash=8df748fdb8c1dead4ce1f5e7b98ce0d4e4b8e244)

With this building you can look inside so I need some furniture to place in the building. Does someone know how to do that fast
(or a little trick to make it look like).

And what do you guys think of the entrance doos it need doors or is it good enough now.
Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room

Quotewhat do you guys think of the entrance doors it need doors

I think when put into the game that the maxis pavement will look to go too far underneath. I'd put some doors on the model for that reason. Maybe even raising the building with a foundation to add a couple of curved steps to the front entrance too.

QuoteI need some furniture to place in the building

I think that I'd start by hiding the glass trapezoids. Continue to model as if they were not there. That would include the floor, tables, chairs, potted plants, and maybe some people. You'll find some stuff here

http://www.archidom.net/ddd/mod_human2.htm (http://www.archidom.net/ddd/mod_human2.htm)

but you may wish to use these only as a start point as your poly count will get very high very fast. Use them in conjunction with the scale tool to determine how many tables then use gmax to render simpler shapes (boxes, circles, etc) to make your tables and chairs. Save your resources for putting the people inside the glass area. Unhide the trapezoids once the interior looks plausible.

(if it were my bat) I'd model some stairs and balcony's in the atrium area for the second and third floors.

I really like the shape of the building. I wish that I were that creative.

- Jim

jmyers2043

Thanks for your reply there aren't answering much peoples here but I'll stay on with posting.

I have filled the left atrium now and I think that it is good now (with moddeling) What you said for the entrance is a very nice idea and I think that the stairs will come in my model just 5 steps for the stair with a height of 1 I think.
And thanks of the link where I can get some stuff for my model (and a dumb question but this will work on gmax and on 3dsmax   :-[ )
And those balconies were the plan but for the right atrium stairs are good option but very difficult

A little update

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg23.imageshack.us%2Fimg23%2F9656%2Futopolis.jpg&hash=9ac830eb166b7afa41016bc6d31458e5331e0fcb)

I filled the left atrium this was the easyiest atrium because it's a straight atrium. The right atrium stands on a 30 degree corner So everything has turned 30 degree and this is very diffucult.

I think this building will be landmark and a growable commercial CO$$$ building with a sound when you plop (just like the Coca-Cola Building)

well I don't know I don't have a very fast laptop (just say terrible) so I think I can't do that because my laptop give problems already with this building so it could happen that it also going to be rendered in SD

Quotedoes someone know an site to get textures because to make everything myself

Before I answer, what paint program do you have? I use Paint Shop Pro. I find it does everything I want. Jeroni and Peg also use it - at the last I knew. A lot of folk use the more expensive Photoshop. Gimp, is a free paint program and I believe is the one that Tag_One uses. And Tag has done some really good texturing recently. Gimp has layering capability. That will be one of your must used functions.

I find (and maybe you will too) there is no such thing as a perfect texture. I'm always touching the textures up. Adding gradients, shadows, or dirt smudges. You will certainly have to make the textures lighter, darker, more coloful, less colorful to fit the Maxis color palette.

Here's a link for a list of texture sites.

Repiies;

@Girafe - Thanks I'm glad that you visit this topic too  ;)

@jmyers2043 - Thanks for the list of textures. Those programs are good i'm used to use the plain paint because I don't have textured much but now I upgraded paint shop pro  :). It does help me a lot and some textures does fit good in this building, but you are right the perfect texture do you make yourself.

Just a little bit textured I will change the roof texture certainly. But the stair texture is right I think, or maybe a little bit darker

1. Be careful your texture has a junction.

2. Seems the connection is not perfect and you have a "gap"

3. Textures are not well integrate to the BAT, what it is ? vegetal walls ?

4. Color of atrium is too dark for me, render glass textures with gmax is very hard, maybe try some reflexion and above all put a noise effect it will be better.

5. You need maybe more details, conditional air on the roof maybe, ads on the walls etc

6. Be careful with the characters, are they on the scale of sc4's characters (so 4-5 m tall).

Some ways you could upgrate your BAT, but as I said you are in the good way

Quite right - here is something I wrote ages back in someone else's BAT thread, all from my own experience...

Great textures are made, not found.

Never, ever, do I end up locating a texture online and using that texture directly in a BAT without first altering it in some form or fashion - reducing the contrast, adding shading or shadowing, changing the color, tweaking the saturation levels, adding gradients, pulling and pushing little details in and out of it, adding and arranging layers of grime or paint or dirt or wear. And then testing it in the preview mode, and then going back to refine and refine some more. Hell, even the textures that Maxis provided with the BAT of their brick walls and shingle roofs - I've used those as a base once in a while, but manipulated them in some way as to arrive at a "good" texture.

Simply put, you're not going to find a treasure trove of perfectly suitable textures that you can immediately use for your BATs. There is no magic bullet for getting around this - image manipulation is a big, big part of texturing for your BATs, and I often find that textures can make or break a BAT. I'll take a building with mediocre modelling and fantastic textures over something that has great modelled details but flat color textures (or even worse, gmax colors.)

G'day folks

I'm back because my school is some more 'quiet' these days, it's not shouting for homework & tests anymore. So i've got more time to BAT. Well when I'm now starting with my new Batting project which is some kinda billboards, but I've got some questions for you; What is the height of an vehicle passing a road an how wide is a road actually. (in BAT meters) When I have this information I can start BATing billboards and show my work to you. I already have some sketches so I know what I'm going to build.
And my last question was if anyone got a glass texturing tutorial because I'm certainly not finished with the glass textures on that building so I surely need your help!

The small cell tower buidling looks very convincing. The next time you do one you may think about adding a small generator and fuel tank. Sites used by emergency services will usually have some standby power.

Another 1x1 BAT
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg52.imageshack.us%2Fimg52%2F8331%2Fwallso.jpg&hash=01c09691edd811a83778f0ba2fad1e4de0204c02)

These are walls like the ones of deadwood. And i'm trying to make them so that you can place them against a hill from 8 metres high. As you also can do this with his walls. There will be a stairs, normal, radio tower, shop, another stair, watch platform, end & curves tile.

What do you think

If someone has some critic please post it because i'm not really far on this point

:EDIT:

I tested the straight tiles and this came out

Those walls look great!  &apls

There are definitely not enough options for vertical or near-vertical walls in SC4 so this would be an especially welcome addition. I think I prefer the first ones which have a little extra space on the top part--that would be nice when placed adjacent to networks with narrow sidewalks (3-lane 2-tile networks, MAVE-6, Tram-in-Ave, etc). My knowledge of BATting is pretty meager but would it be possible to use prop families for a little more variety?

Also, would these be usable only on exactly 8m slopes or 8m or higher/lower?

I look forward to seeing how this progresses

First a replie to noahclem; Thanks, my pack is ready and I will show it next year    . And I will add some extra space on the top if I could find the sidewalk textures of maxis. And yes they are for exact 8 meter slopes  ()stsfd()

Now the update. I created an new BAT which is a little bit like Michailovski-Castle. It's a very big lot and I don't know if I should split it up or just go on with it.
Here's a pic of it

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg703.imageshack.us%2Fimg703%2F5214%2Fpalace.jpg&hash=429f7b4395c453c0017f6e227a2bbd80df7d86e9)

@metasmurf
Thanks for your reply but you have to know that it's generally for a western city but European cities could do too, didn't thought about it  ;)

@Aaron Graaham
Thanks I'm glad you like the textures/details maybe you also like my wharf

@DCmetro
Thanks, I'm making a lot wooden buildings which would fit with each other.

But now I'm working on something difficultier. It's a wharf and I must say that it's hard to get the textures for it because they need very good mapping and it's very difficult to get not in a 'wrong' pattern. This is what I have at the moment.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg109.imageshack.us%2Fimg109%2F5272%2Fnaamlooshn.jpg&hash=65108697a8844e44acd95a2fe51b8a67057eb992)
I made the walls go 10 meters below z-as because the wharf will otherwise float on the water and that wouldn't be realistic. The white line shows the 0 on z-as. Right?

What do you think about it?

@ wc_eend, Thanks for your support, but the file wasn't able to recover any more.

And we have to move on so..
I made a little step forward, I read some tutorials by simfox. Moved to 3ds. And discovered the standard definition & high definition. And the difference between them is huge. One example is my newest building. I drew it from a floor plan (thx to simfox for providing me the tutorial). And this showed up
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg717.imageshack.us%2Fimg717%2F9620%2Fnaamloosnz.jpg&hash=86424bdf9603a24c77afd6b4900b151702ed9212)
And you can immediately see what I'm going to build, altough it's not very far in process.

@MrMave; Thanks

@GSC; Thanks too

Just to let you know that I'm alive.

Ok I've got a problem. My town hall file is corrupt. This means that I'm not able to open the file.  &cry2 . Is there a way to recover? My last save was from the moddeling stage so not very far in progress.
gee man
i had this a couple of times aswell..
really frustrating!
now i make atleast 3 back up per file (as the dutch would say its a bit to much of the good or misschien een beetje teveel van het goeie)

your new building looks really good
the fench is looking really detailed

looking forward to updates :)

and how is 3ds? is it better??

I save my files eveytime with major changes, like v1, v2 v3, etc. Don't forget always to make bake-ups!

I wonder what that building will be ;)
Good luck!

@ Buzzit, Thanks for your reply, 3Ds Max is gorgeous . And about backupping: Now I always triple save my files. To avoid bad things happened in the past.

@Matthijs Thanks, the building shown in the update is a hotel. I think it's gonna be Cs$ because there's a unstoppable  demand for it. ;)

Update!!

I'm not sure if I can render it in HD, because my laptop isn't really a great light  %confuso .
I also made a pic from the staircase at the rear of the the building

Is the roof texture a Yay or a Nay? I'm unsure about it...

QuoteNo it wasn't the right texture, so I changed it.

Hi good work you doing there! Your previews look rather dark so it is difficult to properly judge the textures and the model, are you using BAT4max? and if so are you doing a day preview?
Regarding HD for a building this big it really doesn't matter as HD is good for Zoom6, in game you won't be using zoom 6 to often,  Z5 or Z4 are the ones more used and it doesn't make a difference...

keep it up

Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: FrankU on March 16, 2011, 03:02:39 AM
The hotel looks good so far. I wouldn't render it in HD. It makes the file very large and indeed: I will not zoom in into 6 to look at it.
The roof texture is not ok. It looks like oversized gravel to me. Roofs usually have small stones (gravel?), in white/grey or there is just the roofing material: dark grey flat stuff. Put some machinery on it and a chair that someone has left there for no apparent reason and the roof is ok. Oh yes: old TV-antennas, chimneys etc.

@FrankU ; Thanks, I considered your reply as very important one and I just adapted my roof to it. I hope you will give me the room plans very fast

@bjc_sp ; Thanks, Welcome to the forums.

@Harishna ; Thanks, I now made some day previews of my buidling. Youc an watch them and judge them ;) .

Thanks for all comments. I made some pretty good progress here.

First off I made my hotel a bit smaller, because There was pretty much useless roof on it & I let some concrete foundation up And I planted some ¿ivy? on it
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg854.imageshack.us%2Fimg854%2F5323%2Fnaamloosu.jpg&hash=0118839021cee8533e7911c2723b31adcbe5784c)

And I did something on the roof

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg101.imageshack.us%2Fimg101%2F1349%2Fnaamlooslzx.jpg&hash=018da35531ab92d569feae973286a475ae27e776)

Better?

(Hmm Pic Quality isn't that good  &mmm )
Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: harishna on March 16, 2011, 10:36:58 PM
I think if you use the preview option that comes with BAT4MAX you can get better idea and how it would really look in game similar to GMAX, it is till hard to judge the model as a whole as we can only see some details. I think the brick textures in all wall may be too much for a hotel, doesn't look very welcoming, I thought it was going to be like a low wealth residential building or something...but again the previews may be deceptive :) Maybe a touch of painted surfaces now and then may make it look more like a hotel.  One more thing I am not sure but shouldn't the service/fire stairs be on the other side of the building, I mean to give access to the street in case of a fire?

hope you find these comments helpful
Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: peter007 on March 19, 2011, 02:30:23 AM
I did some things on the roof.
I made a ¿protection building? for the boilers. And I made some cables for the antennas.
And I think the whole thing is looking better now. (but that's my opinion  $%Grinno$% )

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg819.imageshack.us%2Fimg819%2F2258%2Fnaamloosjr.jpg&hash=2d24f2d2d209ac4e183b7ab8003bbd46af96c790)

On the other side of the building on the roof is the door. So you don't have to ask if a made a mistake  :P

And I just found out that this building has a problem with 3DS. So I have to texture and render the thing in the BAT. All the other new buildings are working fine on 3ds. But this one not. So it's taking only  a little bit more time. Eventually  I will export it to a 3DS model and then get it in BAT, texture and render the thing and then you've got the same result (I think)

:EDIT:

Whoops totally forgotten the replies.

@ harishna. Thanks, As you may have read here. I'm not going to post any textured pics of this building any more before it will come into BAT. I think it's a kind of waste of time if I do that. And the question if it's gonna be a hotel is difficult. I don't know but what I do know is that I don't want to make any residentials for now. But more some very low wealth commercials. And I think that's going to work.
(You also got no stars hotels, so why not)

AND
The people can go safely to the street in case of an fire
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg717.imageshack.us%2Fimg717%2F2741%2Fnaamloostu.jpg&hash=e5be065ddf47b29fe4adfe8a43869de51d0edd0e)

Hi Peter/Ernst,

Don't you dare to put that ugly stairway in the frontside of your whatever-it-will-be building! At least if you try to resemble a building in The Netherlands! Noone in our country would accept such a staircase in that location. Usually buldings of a certain wealth, in our country everything above sheds and barns, will have the emergency stairs on the inside of the building or at least in the backyard.
Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: peter007 on March 25, 2011, 11:27:17 AM
@Frank.
Thanks for your comment. I will remove the staircase when I have the time for it. Then I will make a little building on top of the building which will provide an entrace in case of a fire.

But now I have something else to work on. I will do my Profilework (Dutch ; Profielwerkstuk) about the different styles in a city. Like '60 & '30. In every style fits a model which I'm going to create. The first model will be a row house / terraced house.
Current progress;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg855.imageshack.us%2Fimg855%2F7247%2Fnaamloos2.jpg&hash=6f91fac9fc322d38e1e0bde4250aa0358a6942a4)
You should also know that this building is 8/1,3=6,15 real meters wide. Which is, well I don't know if this is normal for a '30  house? Can someone give me advise?

@Guillaume; Thank you very much for a reply. I have redone all the roof textures & the door textures I hope that they will fit better now.

I've got some progress.

As you can see, I have added an antenna, a chimney & a dormer.
What do you think?
Title: Re: 007's B.A.T.ing Room
Post by: Sciurus on April 10, 2011, 02:11:43 AM
It's better like this. But:
- I would add a ridge tile on the roof, to make it more realistic.
- I would do the antenna a bit larger, to see it, because we don't see it very good. And don't do it black, but more grey, like metal.
- Finally, I advise you to add some floor textures for the night render, because there, the house seems to be empty, and it's better if you see some stuff indoor ;)

!Welcome to Page 6!

Wew time's going fast. It's already april.

Since my last update I got very much exams & essays. So I had to wait a time before I could make something on 3Ds. But now on sunday there was a possiblility to make a model and I did.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg859.imageshack.us%2Fimg859%2F2989%2Fp47.jpg&hash=9732b7718ab2e11445799389203999cf8528f6f9)

Textures aren't grear and propellors have to be added in the furure but it is certain;y a very good step forward.

Thanks Aaron Graham & Sciurus for your support. I appreciate that you like my work.
When I got some more time I will finish the dutch row house but untill then I'm going to focus on the plane.
Floor textures were included but weren't properly rendered in the last update. (sorry for that)

Update!

I detached several parts of the airplane. such as wings, rear wings, canopy, propellors (which are new), air intake, etc.
Then I added some textures. And with Gimp I added some extra colours which would pretend to be dust, scratches, dirt, etc.
When I was finished with the extra colours the texture looked like this ;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg251.imageshack.us%2Fimg251%2F6438%2Fwingsr.jpg&hash=89a7eeb80f7a0e2a898ffb779170458f859b2881)
But I'm very satisfied with the result
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg560.imageshack.us%2Fimg560%2F2222%2Fupdatef.jpg&hash=cfccbaaac29082b81844a9a0447d09101d9c69ed)

Write it down! If you have something to add.

@Guillaume
Thank you.

@kapete
Thanks for the comment,
BTW my first 1x1 house didn't had the right proportions that's why it's never came further than test stage. The building was about 1x2 tiles but in gmax it was 12x19 or something like. I didn't knew exactly the right proportions so that's why it went into a complete failure with that buidling  :P

@Matthijs
Thanks Matthijs. I think I will transform it into a roundabout or a staue (something for on your marketplaces).
I have 1 week mayholiday (¿) but since we also have easter, 24-hours school marthon, etc. You can already count that as almost holiday

@Aaron Graham
Thank You,

@Xander
I'm very glad that you like my plane. I will in the future make some other commercial planes like martinair. This plane was just a small ''adventure'' to learn the plane moddeling

Thank you all for your kind words! But now an update. I rendered them in proper models and tested them on simcity4. The first thing I saw was that it shouldn't be handled like a plane but more like a statue or monument. As MrMave just suggested. That's why I'm transforming this into a roundabout.

The test looked a bit like this;
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg829.imageshack.us%2Fimg829%2F6168%2Fplanewq.jpg&hash=c8033b998cd629ae18ddc3bf7afc9717b9abc600)

You're the best public I can have  &apls

@Thomas Neto, Thanks for your compliment
@Une_Ame, I'm glad that you visited my thread again
@Scirius,  Completely agreed ;)
@supremac, You're welcome

But now an Easter update.
I worked with three things.
And it's a shame that not all the three things worked out properly.

The roundabout with the p-47 on it has shown quite good I think.
It looked a bit like this.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg171.imageshack.us%2Fimg171%2F5408%2Froundabout.jpg&hash=b043f9c7c9d268712afc09bdf43d77fadc9b8cf9)

Then I made a new plane. The Douglas MD-11
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg593.imageshack.us%2Fimg593%2F2258%2Fnaamloosjr.jpg&hash=4953a7401185b1640c0b9f453b67e5e0df431889)
Great plane in my opinion (real life), only have to texture it
And then my public may judge it  :D

And then the model which is really ****** up
It is the house from a couple of updates ago. You know the dutch row house.
Only problem is this
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg824.imageshack.us%2Fimg824%2F4765%2Fnaamloosog.jpg&hash=d37f0d77f10a687ab90dbfc2f7f541177cc1b0df)
Does someone know how to get this fixed?

-Ernst

@WC_eend; I'm glad that you made some criticism on my plane. I made it better although the landing gear isn't ready now.

Today it's a Final Weekend Easter Update

And I've got two things for you.
First I have the (amost) finished plane. It had to be Dutch so I put Martinair on it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg146.imageshack.us%2Fimg146%2F9077%2Fmartinair.jpg&hash=7c0dc4df49ba61d67d6ebed1c7f8970eb7e434b9)

Then my second thing is this house. Do you like it?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg148.imageshack.us%2Fimg148%2F8733%2Fnewprojectl.jpg&hash=fc7aa5ba1914297f77a1082382867351639f67f6)

It's far from finished and the floor textures inside the house will be better soon & the complete rear of the house should be done too.
But what I have now is good enough for today.

The house looks nice, although I'd say it is the back of the house: because of the large glass facade.
I cannot sya anything about the textures, but the colour and wearyness of the thing looks quite nice.

yes, but that's a 747-400 if I recall correctly. I don't think anyone BATed an MD-11 upto now.

Ernst, sorry to come up with criticsm again, but the windows appear too stretched, there are no doors on it, the cockpit windows are not like the real ones at all. Also, those parts of the wing that have the flaps attached to them (I don't know the English word for them) seem to be missing. The winglets have a part above the wing and a smaller one below. I know most things are details, but I'd love to see this MD-11 look as close to the real one as it can be.

And to end on a more positive note: I like your house, can't wait to see it finished

PS: I have an MD-11 on my desktop, so I know fairly well how it looks ;D

I have made a few attempts, but none of those resulted in something that is worth showing, so I am well aware how hard it is. I have however made a fair amount of liveries for SCAG planes, and I am well aware that nailing the texture isn't always that easy. I did however found the photo database of Airliners.net very helpful.

Edit: if you want me to explain in detail what I meant in my previous post, just PM/MSN/Email me, and I'll help you out.

&dance Update!! &dance

after so long

Well thank you all for the 6500 visits to my room

But now the replies
Thomas ; Thank you for  visiting my BATting room the forst time
WC_EEND ; Thank you for help on the plane it is resting now in my documents folder.

First my plane
You can see that it's a bit underscaled & the textures aren't very good but there's a start.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg402.imageshack.us%2Fimg402%2F5375%2Froundaboutairplane.jpg&hash=ee3e8d74c6fcfc446a863a63f67ec00b7c8a48f3)
The plane for now on a roundabout filler
-It's badly underscaled
-The textures aren't right (but I won't need any base textures if I make the roundabout the exact size of the center from the roundabout)

Then my subway station (it was first meant to be a railway station but now it has becomen a subway station)
Ignore the textures for now they're just test textures.

Update.

@supremec ; Thank you for your compliment

I gave the building his textures as you can see on the picture.
I'm considering to delete the IKEA advertisement because the roof will look too busy.
Chimney's, HVAC's, etc. are going to be added soon.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg541.imageshack.us%2Fimg541%2F5629%2Fnaamlooskn.jpg&hash=bcfcf82120e37c276afa455d86c93885022b6f2a)

Perspective view was just to add something to the picture  :P

Looks good, although if a part of that building IS an IKEA, I would not have placed it there. IKEA's often are large shopping complexes.
I'm sure about the window textures, too. They look a bit blurry.
Otherwise, well done!

looks really good indeed
but what matthijs said is true.
you could even consider to replace it with a advertisment wich fits the building better.(like Microsoft $%Grinno$%)
tobad its to small for a bijenkorf but it really has textures fitting the brand if you ask me.
also the Ikea buildings mostly are in the colours of the swedish flag as you all know.
i wouldnt delete the sign you could save it up for an building fitted for ikea :)

further more it looks like a great building!
keep it up!

lol someone doesn't like MS.

Though, really, neither Apple nor Microsoft would have their brand names on this building. More realistically, a kind of shop which would actually be in such a location needs to have a sign. Like, a McDonalds. Does Belgium have any of its own chains, which aren't represented in Simcity yet?

Hey folks

I'm here with a new update from two buildings!
But first the replies
@Zaphod ; thanks for pointing out that I could  beter do another sign on the building
@Buzzit ; Thank you my friend
@Matthijs ; Thanks for the compliment

First I made a wooden building. The inspiration came from a bit of playing Anno1404.
Not that it's a replica but you know.

So here are the pictures

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg62.imageshack.us%2Fimg62%2F6475%2Fupdatej.jpg&hash=8e48e7a6f1d7d064237cde1b09534af674a53070)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg834.imageshack.us%2Fimg834%2F7283%2Fupdate2.jpg&hash=4560c676d1ccdb3ddaa402a8ac440e0c88a55ec3)

I lost total motivation on the second building because of the bug.
This building is the fourth with that. So I said goodbye to simfox' spline modelling. I'm doing it in the old fashion way now. And it's working splendidly.

Things have to go else was my last conclusion and I did.
I drastically changed my way of building and therefore created my first Dutch debugged house.
It can be founded in Goes (yes it is name) on the Vlas markt. (market)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg806.imageshack.us%2Fimg806%2F2222%2Fupdatef.jpg&hash=b89fa2257edc92a94a90b246daef716b0720900a)
Say what you think about it, because I will move to the next building beside it  ;)

@Buzzit ; Special for you a tutorial (also posted on splines)
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
There wasn't really a tutorial for 3dsMAX so
if you want to criticize soomething. FEEL FREE !!

I'm going to recreate the facade of this building (the black building)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kamertje.nl%2Fimagesroom%2Fccd52642a027e5c64f8af2833bc84aa9vlasmarkt1.jpg&hash=d9b9370cafe263cba0c6407b4bcfefc48a51e199)

Therefore we need.
-Healthy brains
-A cup of tea or coffe
-3DSmax / Gmax
-A laptop / desktop
-Maybe a scratchpad with a pencil
-A good radio station
-Gimp or Photoshop

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg710.imageshack.us%2Fimg710%2F7264%2Ftutoriala.jpg&hash=d787d5f51824428b017e0150727c058e1ebe8712)
1 - Click this if you want to change your view ((you can change to top ,rear ,side ,front ,perspective ,and much more)I've just chosen the top view)
2 - This is a hard to understand object. Snaps are making sure that you will get the exact location you wanna have in your scene. Clicking them on is by just one left click and you should always choose for 2,5. You can change this by moving your cursor on the button then click and hol untill you see the menu. Then choose 2.5. If you do right click on the button you will see a screen like this. Make the adjustments shown in this pic
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg11.imageshack.us%2Fimg11%2F1438%2Ftutorialbz.jpg&hash=540a66b12ff9d0d755d0957340e58caadb2b643c)
3 - My current cursor (with snaps toggled on)
4 - The rectangle I've just drawn
5 - Then name of the rectangle you can easily change it by clicking on it and then typ your wanted name
6 - A easy view navigator very useful when you want to have a quick view of something
7 - The way how you get to the rectangle (Shapes --> Rectangle)

Now we have created a rectangle we can move on by making the doors & windows
Note; As I already said things may differ from the real screen!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg109.imageshack.us%2Fimg109%2F5011%2Ftutorialc.jpg&hash=908d7241801ef42bbc50f78f305a623e54f87524)
1 - A rectangle created in our big rectangle. This and all the other rectangles will look like windows in a moment
2 - Hard to see but these are your X,Y & Z axis They will provide you information in what kinda direction you have to move certain things.
3 - If you want to adjust you rectangles you can do it right here.
4 - At the tools tab you can see the tool array. Use this tool to multiply your rectangles to prevent doing the same thing.
Just fill in the menu click on preview (to watch if it's a good array) and click on OK

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg687.imageshack.us%2Fimg687%2F651%2Ftutoriald.jpg&hash=861b282317a1c4b7339847b5015aa5f96b826fb9)
1 - Scroll down till you reach Attach
2 - Click on it
3 - Right mouse click then follow the pic and click
4 - Attach these rectangles with each other
5 - Save your work (click on one of these buttons)
6 - Just shift the door a little bit off the big rectangle.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg848.imageshack.us%2Fimg848%2F4687%2Ftutoriale.jpg&hash=789f91666228703aedab9bab2533d80fae4aed7f)
1 - Select (and choose the amount (normal wall volume is 0,4))
2 - Here's your facade.

Next time if someone requests it I will include windows, doors textures, etc.
Whatever you request

They're based on a real house in Holland, but I thought that they we're to clean so I made them a bit dirtier and a bit less maintained.

Ooh yes and I've upgraded to 3ds Max 2012 and the viewports are soooo much better.

@FrankU
I think you mean roof? Well if it is. You're totally right. It should be a triangular roof, but that was difficult because of the edges and it didn't fit to well so I decided to handle it in this way. Is it bad? No I don't think so

And this is the dirtier building. I made some chimneys and I think it's ready unless you say that I should add something to it. Also I need to add some nightlights, but I don't know exactly how maybe because I didn't thought about it yet ;)

Thanks to Simfox for finding the bug which kept me away from exporting buildings.

Een echte Nederlandse Markt. Dat zou mooi zijn.  :P.

De gebouwen zien er mooi uit. Vraag: gaan ze ook die kleuren in het spel krijgen als die je nu op de afbeelding ziet? Het is dat het me niet echt kleuren zijn die je veel in de Nederlandse woningbouw ziet.

Hi Ernst,

Indeed, the colors are not really Dutch. They remind me of Hungary, Autria and other countries where they use stucco on the facades.
And again: the roof of the yellow house looks really weird. I have never seen something like that.
Otherwise: a nice project.

I hope I can use that market very soon, I like it  ;)

Hey all

Holiday is over and I went to almost everything things were so nice in Germany, Luxemburg, France, Holland, Belgium. And Paris was also very beautiful with it's Eifel Tower and Louvre museum. Now I'm back into town. On 1 september I had a operation on my breast. It hurt a lot, but things are going better I started modelling again and created a lighthouse which isn't already finished. Also with the dutch buildings . . . eeh. Yes What should I do with them. I'm considering changing the colors but maybe it will look boring. Always better than looking odd, but it still got a feeling that minty green and fruity orange. I will take a look on those buildings soon I think.

@Vester, I just always put the renders besides each other, than make a printscreen. That's much faster, don't you think?

@FrankU, Haha that's funny. When I was in Luxemburg I saw similiar houses which means that they could go for the BNL project ;)

@supremec, Kelis, Getron & Buzzit, Thank you for your warm compliments. It is helping me recovering much faster

Ok this is my progress for the last two months
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg402.imageshack.us%2Fimg402%2F6599%2F12911pic1.jpg&hash=78e0c182cdbc822579f6b204275443f9c841c439)
It would be good for Tropico 3 or 4  &Thk/( but not for SimCity Certainly not! It just doesn't have enough datails. What should I do? Maybe adding some ropes, bushes or lifejackets?

-Ernst

At least I had fun creating it, and that's what counts  :satisfied:

art128. Thank you, I know the texture is strange but I like it as it is. It was not made for simcity 4. Just a tiny project to get BATting again

I didn't went to school this month. I'm still reviving from my 1,5 week in hospital when I was operated on my breast. Sometimes it hurts a lot. So I have to search some distraction.
Then I made this.
It's an 1970's Gallery Flat in Goes
Getting maps, pictures and other stuff was easy, because my grandma & pa lives there.
I never thought that it would be that big.

I'm now waiting on floor plans & methods for the 0 & 1 floor.
So this project is going to be quiet for a while

Getron; Thanks Getron, someone on STEX thought it looked like a soviet building.

Actually that is not as stupid as many would think. This style of architecture is called the International Style and is is the daughter of the Modernist style, which was quite international already. In this modernist style were lots of young revolutionary soviet architects invloved. This took place in the 1920ies when the Russian Revolution was young and optimistic.

So a lot of buildings all over the world have a similar apperance.

Your new roof look much better!  ::)

About the LightRig, I had this problem many times, especially by opening a MaxScene created with an older version of Bat4Max.
You can try to...
-Delete the "Camera/LightRig" with the button "Delete Light and Camera Rig" in the Bat4Max Menu and then create a new.
or you can try to...
-Create a brand new Max scene and merge your old scene (import-/-merge). Warning: merge only the geometric objects and not the Camera and Lights.

Hope this will help you.

Hey all.
FrankU wanted to know what kind of building it is. Well ... Uuh ... I don't know, but what I do know is how you have to make the nightlights which came out pretty well. Thanks Jbsimio for explaining his way of nightlighting in his wonderful tutorial  "$Deal"$

I love the design of this building...

I would say it's an old industrial building: some offices in the front and a warehouse/workplace in the back. You can still find buildings like this along canals...
I don't know why, but I like the concrete version more... fits better with the design. Or maybe some other bricks (old, degraded ones)?

I also have a few remarks on the bat itself:

- Nightlights are strange because you have three colors (one per floor). The top floor is a warm yellow, the first floor is very white (like TL-lights) and the ground floor is dark.
- It seems there's no floor in between the stages. You need at least 0,5 meters of floor (girders, plumbing, electrics etc...)
- The lighted offices at each floor seem to be copies of each other. Make some changes in the lay-out (turn the UVW-map around)

- Maybe add some chimney's? (if it's an industrial building)
- add a truck-loading station? (see above)... the L-shaped building at the back would be perfect for that.

Greets
Alex

Ha, the front is nice!
The back is really a very unDutch looking thing to me, so closed!

It could be a library, an exposition building, a high brow shop, an office.

Nice first attempt at World Trade Center Rotterdam, but I think the proportions are not completely accurate. If I look at google maps seems to me that the tower is higher or the low building is smaller in size.

The Residential tower looks great.

The roof of this Rotterdam building is a little bit busy that´s because I wanted to try new kinds of tools. I hope you like the "crowded" result. It's not finished though. THe detail will be a lot less in game since this is just a view made in 3dsMAX and not in the BAT4MAX

@FrankU; I did :D . About the WTC I leave it as it is now. I'll just get back to it when I'm done with this building.

As you all know. (at least dutch guys). The building should be white at the back, but I don't know whether it will contrast to much with the building itself. We see mainly dark colors with a white wall we will see something very different and I don't know if that is good.
Nevertheless. Here are the pictures.

Now that is looking great, Ernst!
I have a less crowded feeling because of the trees. I think it is nice indeed to have something greenish on the roof.

Nice detailing there, Ernst! It looks like a building that I'm willing to download when it's finished

Maarten; Thank you! By the way you did a great job on the bridge you made. Just wanted to say ;)
Matthijs; Thanks, the trees are doing well on the roof indeed.

Now the exams are killing me, but I needed to get out so I continued on the roof junk and this is the result. Now I think it's finished unless someone says that there is something wrong.
Here's the picture
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imgdump.nl%2Fhosted%2F2763f99103703f0c39e9fc88a01f909c.jpg&hash=049a185347b2f9c2d334a62a76d6a03a8de396bd)
Now the stone texture isn't realy done but I intend to get back on that later when I can get a nice view of the overall building.

:EDIT:
Maybe an overall look would do some good.

As the dutch fellows know there should be some white areas at the building. I experimented with it and it didn't do anything good to the total picture. So I think I keep it with this stone texture.

@Frank(U); Thanks for the compliment
@noahclem; Thank you very much. I like the top myself too
@RickD; Thanks!
@Alex_Bervoets; Thank you!
@Guillaume; Thanks, my friend
@Buzzit; Thanks!
@Xander; I changed the color a bit. Hope you like it even more.

I did some work on the upper three floors, the roof junk and I exported the building once to let Dr. Greg and The Cooking Queen take a look about it. The scaling seems okay. As you can see in this picture
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imgdump.nl%2Fhosted%2F998756499cab2a7acfda7feea6e60c8c.png&hash=0f3a0796befeec65e724c49d45f110a84596e8e1)
Then I changed some things to the front pillars. I made them a little bit wider.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imgdump.nl%2Fhosted%2F80eaf7d0b5e13c583a0da77be627dd1b.jpg&hash=fe3930dc26b2c67347c9b64dce00b681210fe92b)
And I changed the Tilling of the building. Now you can actually see that it is bricks instead of the real life concrete. I liked this more :)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imgdump.nl%2Fhosted%2Fc5b1643c00d658258dc3d092478d6ff8.jpg&hash=22177c9857ee0c3213d335e05c69a7bcf1c64e17)

Without any criticism I will continue with the nightlights.

Hi Ernst,

Now that you showed the images in game I realised that there is something not OK in your model. The large cut out on the lower part is too large. I thought you were going to add some low part of the building or something. It didn't look finshed to me, but apparently it was meant like this.
The three brick columns are way too thin to carry almost half of the building. Especially the fact that there are these two corners of the tower hanging in the air: this is construction-wise not possible! The building should have some real heavy construction on this location in order to become a realistc high rise tower. I really advise you to make something different here.
Sorry if this sounds rude and/or gives you a lot to do now...

The texturing, the finished facades and the upper "landscape" are otherwise beautiful!   &apls

I am looking forward to the results.

What an amazing job !!!

Hi Ernst, I like so much this model, Very close to the real building and I have to agree the same, this brick texture its much better now, another thing that I have to agree is the scale, I think it would be better a 10% or 15% could be enough, well my friend you may be sure, I will use this model in my Dutch region  :)

Keep up the good work  ;)

Very nice building, it gives a whole new meaning to roof 'junk' as it is gorgeous.

The pillars, however, still seem too thin to me. And in comparison to the surrounding buildings it looks like the entire structure could be scaled up just a little bit. Other than that, great work

Hi looking very nice. I don't know if i fully agree with frank, might be a bit to big but I am not sure ???. But there is something going on. But perhaps it is the glass above the entrance. In the google earth pictures it looks like it's bigger, especially longer (and the glass is also blue). It seems to be going to about 1/3 of the eh, what's it called, the space between the columns and the door in RL. With your model it's about 1/4. So the space under the building looks a bit empty.

Viewing pictures side by side, one from your work next to the google earth picture(with its great sc4 style isometric view enabled), it then looks much bulkier, stubby and shorter than the real version, which is more sleak looking and taller. Perhaps it's the strange sc4 scale factor for length.

Success finishing it, keep it up. And success with the finals.

@Noahclem; That's why I scaled it up 10 percent :) Thanks for the add!
@Xander; I'm glad you liked it. For the nightlights I tried yesterday something but it wasn't worth sowing it so you have to wait a couple of days ;)
@Frank(U); I made the pillars a little bit longer. I hope you're pleased now :)
@Kelis; Thanks! The building is scaled up with 10%
@Vortext; Thanks for the compliment. I made the pillars one meter wider.
@w_swietwoot; Well first thanks for the compliment my friend. The building is empty at the bottom so that the LOTter who wana take the job in the end can place some things at the bottom of the building. The canopy should be a little bit smaller otherwise no prop will fit under it. I tested it in the LOT-editor and a tree fits under it. I adjusted the LODs in that way that its possible to do that. I scaled the building up a little bit now every storey is 4,25 meter which is pretty much the normal 3dsMAX height for a storey. (133% of the real height)

I wasn't satisfied with the glass either. it is to repetitive. So I made some curtains for some variation.

In a far zoom it looks really cool but I still need some work on it. I think adding some easy shapes to the interior will do the job. Just let's experiment and we will see.
If anybody has a better idea? Please say it!

w_swietwoot; Well I made interior for the building. So putting textures on the glass won't work. Unfortunately
Xander; Thank you! Yes you saw it right, but that thing is there already for a couple of updates so you might missed it :P The rendering is fine. I didn't came further then 1.400.000 poly's so it should be fine.

Ok I finished the day building, but the nightlights didn't came out properly, since there were many glitches and bugs. Therefore I let the building rest for a while to find a solution for it.
Yesterday I started on something new.
Anybody knows the ugly Wibauthuis? On the wibautstraat in Amsterdam?

I added an edge render to make the "details" more visible.

I hope you like it so far.
The blocks at the left top of the building are layout "dummies" It helps for starting to build. Sometimes I end up full with ideas but with an empty scene for about 3 hours and that's when it comes very useful

-Ernst

Oh and I know I should resize the image but I don't know the code for it could someone pass that on?

The new building looks great so far  &apls   I hope you're able to figure out your nightlighting on the last one. It's an exceptional building deserving top-notch lights so I'll be happy to wait as long as it takes for you to get it to look the way you want it to look

As for image resizing, instead of just adding the image link do it like this:

The user can then click the image to see it in full resolution. Substitute whatever width you want for 1024
