Bat: I agree with Sebes. GLR is in the Netherlands not considered a luxurous way of transit. I guess that is my thought of it too. I only place GLR in R$ or R$$ areas and elevated train in R$ and downtown areas.
In fact if you have a look at the Show us your suburbs section youi see a lot of GLR in my R$ area (the Hagestein lot by Tag_One is R$).

Alek, that neighborhood is so awesome it ought to be illegal.  ;)  I know this is an odd comment, but if you take the trees off the streets in that large bloc of apartments, it almost looks like a neighborhood where I got ambushed in Iraq.

Hence why you see all those mansions and parks next to those tenaments.  This is my only large ghetto, but it does feed that commercial area across the freeway, so it's not too bad...

this is a cool thread. my favorite things to build in game are the bad areas so it's cool to see how other people build them.

One more nasty ghetto. This is on the city tile next to the previous ghetto, at at the same orientation. On the region view it's like the ghetto carries on but it is two different tiles.

Love those highrises. Very nce repetition there. Did you use a lot of bulldozing or did you use the Aleking way (see his tutorials here on SC4D).

Lookingforward to more of this great stuff.

i use aleking's techinque to an extent although i usually tweak growth stages to change which ones appear. so i can have more choice of rowhomes lol. lots of making historical. trouble with some of the larger lots is that bulldozing is required and dezoning as zones sometimes break up after a while and grow as smaller lots, this is annoying but unavoidable. it usually takes somewhere in the region of 4 years to grow an entire ghetto, with pauses to demolish/make historical....

normally i build my ghettos first then make other stuff around them the tweak aesthetics last, here is a WIP shot of lake hewitt north.(a 7x3km lake give or take over two large tiles)

mightygoose: Nice ghettos!  I like the ones with the plazas between them.  I always loved how RL cities always tried to "pretty up" their ghettos, but then they neglect the parks and stuff and they end up fitting in very nicely... %wrd.  Nice putting it far away from everyone...I gotta ask, though, how many people live there?  Do you know?

I like those medium density white appartement blocks in the second and third picture. They are in a very ghetto-like style. I am not sure if I have them already where did you get them?

Great work Marcszar! With some photo edditing the colours out you made a stunning effect!

BTW the city council has investigated the cancer rates of the area and have come to the conclusion that although the cancer rate is disturbingly high in this area no direct relationship between the high tension poles and the cancer rate can be obtained.  ;)

That is one of the most realistic pictures I've ever seen, especially being a  NY native here. I recently watched a PBS special on the start of Rap in the South Bronx in the early 80ties. And you've captured one of the four professions of hiphop vary well. Graffiti...incredible, I'd love to see some more of these areas. The fact that you left a bunch of vacant lots makes the picture so much better as well ;D

Some of these seem like they could be downright bohemian...ghetto, maybe, but somewhere I see a punk club, artists, and a few yuppy condo developers about to get extremely rich.

Can't wait for those 70's US suburban apartment complex bats JBSimio was making will be done so I can make some authentic Atlanta/ Dallas/ SW Houston ghettoness....all I'd need then would be some crappy strip malls with a phone store, mega nailz, and a crappy charter school or evangelical church in the former supermarket space.

What is it that you guys do to be able to develop good looking "poor" areas? All i can get to grow is R$$ and R$$$ and I have a humongous demand for R$ too.

just_a_guy, you have to take about poor inhabitans in the opposite way as you care for wealthy ones :). So, don't develop (too much - you have to have some institutions, otherwise chance of riots is too high) education (it's priority matter), health care, police / fire coverage, YIMBY landmarks and parks. Usually $ residents don't care about such inconveniences. Maybe it isn't correct in 100%, for sure any sc4 expert will correct me.

TopCliff, your pic looks well, but a bit too "sterilised" imo.

Unfortunately you won't find any ploppable residential buildings because there's a bug in the game with them. You'll have wait the buildings you want to grow. There's no other way (except the Building ploppable I think)
