Congrats on posting the 3000th response, Bat! I can't wait to see how David honors this post, especially considering you're the best European railway builder there is...

Cheers,
Kevin

Well another leap of faith for 3RR. Happy Leap year &hlp

The Fire and Police dist. maps look fantastic. Now just waiting to see how far out of city limits do the power companies go or is there just one main company. Nice work David

Hmm now where to build my hunting and fishing lodge. Needs to have a good size water area  for all those bush jockies to land. As well as semi ease of access for those who travel by vechicle.

Looking forward to more great stuff from this group. One of the most enteraining forms I have been a part of.

Exit numbers.  The log for F-637 is here [linkie].  The log for F-21 is here [linkie].  A regional road map marked with exit numbers will open in a new window when you click here [linkie].

Just all sorts of roadgeeky goodness, eh?

David, you were almost in the middle of a Burgess sandwich!   :P   :D

These exit guides you're making will really help me.  I had tons of questions about the control cities & such, and these guides are answering those questions quicker then Ken Jennings on Jeopardy.  ;)

i think we need a Road Sign that says "into the wild exit 457m left". only joking, great film thoe. anybody now if it was filmed in parts of alaska or just some part of USA, south of canada?

like the way this project is shaping up david and inc.

Referring to this picture posted a li'l while back by bugrgsabre87...

Betrayed by one of its own the Camaro gets stopped by an older angrier guy in the force. Except don't you go to driver side?
Any other sports cars as cops we should know about in the 3RR? I have seen a Dodge Viper someplace turned copcar after confiscation from speedin.
Speeking of Road Geeky, I live in an alternate universe because the exits are a completely different situation than the Aurora, Montgomery, Wheaton and Ottawa that I know.
vs the exit signs.
In this map Aurora and Montgomery are right next to each other, if you click on street view, and take the yellow man, and put him on route 25 and go south, you eventually will see the border sings. Yes you can actually drive there yourself through all those areas, right were your sitting at your computer. Creepy google can do stuff on the ground were we are huh?

Aurora
Wheaton
Ottawa

The point of the matter is who copied who first with the community names?
Problem, the pic from http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/2694/roadmap07090227interchata5.gif doesn't show anymore.

EDIT: Fixed the really big link. - Dustin (thundercrack83)

Hello, j-dub.

The places you've named aren't supposed to be the actual cities that you're thinking of.

For instance, David's Ottawa and Aurora are not Ottawa, Ontario, and Aurora, Illinois--they're different places, somewhat like Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Well, Philadelpha, MS isn't worth making the trip just to say "I've been to all the Philadelphias in the United States!" unless you like Indian Casinos. Its only 1:10 drive northeast of me and I've given the Choctaws money at both the poker table and steak buffets...

Over and out from Jackson, Mississippi.

Cheers,
Kevin

I don't think that I've made it any secret that I grew up in Northern Illinois- the western Chicago suburbs of Downers Grove and Naperville, to be precise.

I'm always amazed by how much I remember about places I last lived coming up on over 40 years ago, and further surprised by how fond many of those recollections are.  I'm pretty much head over heels in last minute collaboration details right now, but thought you might enjoy a quick contest.  This is along the line the past "match 'em up" ones we've done- I've taken place names from 3RR inspired by places in Northern Illinois I frequented as  a boy and come up with a corresponding obscure fact or characteristic, then scrambled the lists.  There's a twist, though.  In order to win, you will need to be able to tell me what it is that I am making reference to.  The unscrambled list and short answers are fine- if you are on the right track, I won't be too picky.  So, here's 10 Northern Illinois-inspired 3RR places...

[tabular type=2]
[row] [head colspan=6]
Match 'em if you can!
[/row]
[row] [head colspan=2]Name[/head] [head colspan=4]Source[/head] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Wheaton[/data] [data colspan=4]Bernstein wasn't born here[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Ottawa[/data] [data colspan=4]Connecting Romeoville and Joliet[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Cook[/data] [data colspan=4]A line to South Bend[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Fox River[/data] [data colspan=4]In the county you'd expect to find it[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Riverview[/data] [data colspan=4]"Party time- Excellent!"[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Des Plaines River[/data] [data colspan=4]Only bested by LA[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Aurora[/data] [data colspan=4]Once amused[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Round Lake[/data] [data colspan=4]Lost to Naperville, then won by other means[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]South Shore[/data] [data colspan=4]Not to be confused with its channel[/data] [/row]
[row] [data colspan=2]Geneva[/data] [data colspan=4]"Be prepared!"[/data] [/row]
[/tabular]

As I noted the last time we did this, some of these are pretty obscure.  But, by process of elimination, someone should be able to get pretty close, and all of this information is out there to be found somewhere.  Post your guesses (if you dare)- who knows what treats will come to the reader who gets it right!

* * *

j-dub, hi!  Thanks for the first-time post!  Actually, I think the trooper car pic is a publicity set-up and the red Camaro is an unmarked car.  Any law enforcement types want to comment on why what you see would be an unlikely procedure in a traffic stop?  No extra points for this- I just see a few things that strike me as highly unlikely.

* * *

Heh, Kevin (BigSlark)-

QuoteWell, Philadelpha, MS isn't worth making the trip just to say "I've been to all the Philadelphias in the United States!"

Well, actually, you couldn't.  There's several more, anyone know which states?  And, this time for extra credit- does anyone know which Philadelphia the cream cheese was named after?

One week to go!

Later.
