It might be the jpg compression, a closer zoom would be good if you could get it, but the tiles on the roof seem to be a bit narrow. Aisde from that, this recent one looks like a good addition. I like the darker red of the siding.

Hmm...that's a zoom 5 render. But those roof tiles, I'll see about fixing. ;)

A collage of renders for the next color variant on this model:

comments welcome! :)

QuoteNice boat.  &apls

Indeed, and it is one of the rare kind of submarine available in SC4. I'm looking forward to plopping one of these U-boats in the game. Nice work, Travis!

Travis

thank you for the comments. :)

Nexis4Jersey

I love that submarine , it looks like the one in Hackensack , and your USB building is looking good.  Can you make some Jersey City & Newark buildings sometime in the near future? ()what()

Hey trav, got something for ya to work on :D

Travis

A teaser...

I've been working on the nightlights for US Bank. More pix to come soon.

Travis

Well, that very old submarine model I had was revived yesterday. ;D Here are some pix of the process that took me to the finished product...

A handy reference diagram for the model:

After taking the model shown above for a quick test drive with new textures, I stopped to take a pic:

I also thought that a water-plane would be useful, to give the viewer an idea of what parts of the sub would be underwater. Added that...

More texture tweaking...

...

...

I still wasn't satisfied; as it turns out I needed to get my hands dirty and do some modeling to get the effect I wanted:

Putting the thumbnail camera to use....

and, the glory shot:

This is how it turned out ingame:

Not bad, I think. :) I'll be wrapping that up as a basic water plop, but sometime in the future I'll revisit it and perhaps make an upgradeable seaport. ;)

Now, next project- the German VII Type u-boat....coming soon. ::)

Comments welcome!

mightygoose

just so you know the 9D2 was a prototype and only 2 were ever made....

i know a fair amount on the subject...

my dad builds master models for a model company...

he is responsible for the company's entire line of submarines....

this is a type VIIc U boat waterline at 1:35 scale (around six foot long)

note jon bottomley (my dad) versus John Bottomley (me)

[linkie]

i can get you lots of information should you want to increase the detail on the model.
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

joelyboy911

you'll need to make the LOD's tight at water level if you want the ship to appear partly submerged. At the moment it appears to be over the water.

Other than that, nice job.  :)

thanks Patrick. :)

@John: well, talked to you on MSN/chat about it already. :P

@Joel: yeah- I shall revisit the sub soon. :)

While taking a quick break from the u-boats, I started another project:

Lots of small details to go, but nevertheless, I'm quite proud of the deck texture I cooked up. ;D Comments, anyone?
