Title: Invermere Lake by szarkoz
Post by: szarkoz on April 01, 2007, 04:41:22 PM
I'd like to welcome you all in my first MD on SC4D, Invermere Lake!
I've been playing SC4 for over a year and I have already presented some of my works on other websites. Maybe some of you remember names of Caledonia or Everon - if that's true, then it's me who were their author ;D

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg255.imageshack.us%2Fimg255%2F4589%2Fimage1lf0.jpg&hash=7d0de8a2731bc610f1f1d4a12addaafff67d1a97)

Let's get to the topic. This what you see above is a simple Coat of Arms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms) of Invermere Lake region. I haven't prepared any good history of this area, you can just guess that the date of 1863 as seen in the lowest part of the Coat of Arms is the date of estabilishment of the first settlement in the Invermere Lake area.

I'm sure you can associate this region with Invermere, British Columbia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invermere). I'll still try to make it look like a possible region in Canada, however, this is not my necessary aim. It's obvious that I am considering much realism into this MD, but it's not the most important issue for me - I care about the looks at most.

Of course, a big credit goes to NHP which is the author of this beautiful map. (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=603) Here you can see how this map looks like. I hope now you'll get the look of the Coat of Arms - you can see a lake in between of two mountains.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg78.imageshack.us%2Fimg78%2F8225%2Finvermerelakesj6yq9.jpg&hash=650ef6b76618b9bc3fc87b8d3d8573deeabf5515)
You can click HERE (http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1556/invermerelakesj6.jpg) to see the region picture in full size.

Just before I start this MD for real, I'd like to note that I will use cheats, helpers and much other unfair stuff to make this region look better. I stopped caring about the way I play this game long ago.

So, the first pictures will show Arroyo River which is situated in the north-west corner of the region (you can't see it on the above region picture). They will be posted tomorrow.

Feel free to post your opinions and comments!

The region looks great, so far! I can't wait to see how you develop it.

I haven't seen this put more eloquently anywhere. I agree, 100%!

Great start on this MD. The terrain mods/ water mods combo you have used to render the map are an excellent combination!!

szarkoz, I have special interest in the development of this region. You can rest assured that I will be following it's development.

It's 10 a.m. here now, I've got about 15 minutes till I'll have to leave, so... isn't it an ideal time for a quick update? ;)

PERSONAL REPLIES

thundercrack83 - Thank you for posting the first comment in Invermere Lake! Heheh, you know, I just though it'd be better if I was honest just from start.

beskhu3epnm - I've been worried about those mods, actually. It's nice to know that there are people that think they're excellent for this map, though! :) Thank you for your comment!

Flipside - Thank you for your comment, well looks like you don't have to wait anymore.

jplumbley - So great to see a comment from a member of NHP! Finding good maps was always a pain in the neck for me - I couldn't find any that would match my needs. But when I saw this one, I just thought 'Yes. This is the one' :) Thank you for your comment!

dedgren - Nice to know that you remember me and my works David! Even if I hadn't posted any comments neither in 3RR nor in others' works, I've been a constant lurker all the time. When it's evening here, I'll post some comments. Anyway, thank you for posting your comment here, David.

wouanagaine - Hey, wouanagaine. I hope so too ;) Thank you for your comment!

Well, it's just few hours since start when you've got the first update of Invermere Lake.
In my last post I told you that I am working on Arroyo River in the north-west corner. That's why we'll be having our first update there. I acutally have been playing with this region for few days so I have some things done already:

» placing trees everywhere » DONE!

» first parts of Arroyo River » DONE!

» dam on Arroyo River » DONE!

» some various facilities around Arroyo River » DONE!

And looks like that's all so far...

Well, we'll take a look at the Hydroelectric (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroelectricity) Reservoir of Arroyo River. It's a source of electricity for whole Invermere Lake, as well as one of tourist attractions. On the picture you'll be able to see the Arroyo River Dam and Arroyo River Hydroelectric Power Plant. The completion of hydroelectric facilities is dated to 1970s, so the flora around the reservoir was able to grow again.
There are also 2 restaurants. First one, located on a cliff just near the reservoir provides an amazing view of the reservoir; it's expensive, though. Second one is located near the power plant, so that makes it much cheaper, but worse.

You can click on this link to see the mosaic in full size. It's big though (4MB), so I recommend you 'saving target as' instead of opening it your browsers. (http://ucz.almalo.edu.pl/~tulman/medium_quality.jpg)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg141.imageshack.us%2Fimg141%2F8094%2Fmediumqualityxa9.jpg&hash=3c202a90509cf9ee80fa8c5487f073e138586d50)

Next picture shows the area down the dam. You can see a beautiful rail bridge and waterfalls there. Plus it's all in a great, late afternoon sun.

Same here, you can click on this link to get the image in its full size. (http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4749/0125czevi2.jpg)

As for the end, I leave you with the current region image.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg219.imageshack.us%2Fimg219%2F3324%2Finvermerelakerc6.jpg&hash=119e793912a92106605f78426875610de31c0bff)

Well, that's everything for this update. We'll see again soon! ;)

I think the term is 'magnifique' and from the looks of that dam setup, it's an understatement. Incredible work on this, I'm very impressed!

I'm glad our map is meeting your expectation. Seeing such a great MD on it is a real honor!

Not only have you picked one of the very best maps I have ever seen, but your first updates also promises a very high quality Mayor Diary. The way you have "filled" the riverbed, complete with dam and all is just astounding. This is one to MD to follow for sure.

Hi szarkoz ,

I have to say that this representation of a dam and its artificial lake created upstream ( notably by its sizes ) is the most convincing I've seen so far ....
And as much on the mosaic than on the regional view . Excellent work too on the riverbed .&apls
Yes ; "magnifique" start ... ;)

First of all I'm sorry that I won't reply to your great comments (I'm really happy of all of them, and I'd like to thank you all very much), but I'm exhausted at the moment and I'm just about to go to sleep.

Anyway, let's move to the 2nd update of Invermere Lake! :)

To start, let's take a look at some mostly nature shots. Today's pictures were taken in the early morning, so it's still quite dark ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg59.imageshack.us%2Fimg59%2F2875%2F070420071ml5.jpg&hash=208f38f30c250377406e4383210ce79a672e104a)

Moving a little more to south, there are hot springs. They've become a tourist attraction in the area.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg150.imageshack.us%2Fimg150%2F36%2F070420073bd4.jpg&hash=03fc005f401f9ba9f45c83896e6be3e05f64df6b)

Tourists mean money and money means people that want to make business. As hot springs had become more and more popular, a little town has grown. It is named after the neighbouring Mt. Klamath. The town is called Klamath Creek. I've prepared some descriptions of main buildings for you.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg206.imageshack.us%2Fimg206%2F3637%2F070420075gr8.jpg&hash=7affa416a74d4583cf3e31d6fa6bbb0f8f239e1a)

Well, that's all for this, 2nd update. I know that's not really much, but believe me, I don't have much time to play SC4 recently. Anyway, see you soon in next update!

Thanks for your comments in advance.

szarkoz, this is a really nice start to this MD, and your nature pics are very impressive.  You've really put ploppable water to good use, and I can never get enough of wheatfields.  The use of the name "Klamath" also gives me a sense of familiarity, as here in Oregon, we've got a ton of stuff named Klamath, including the city of Klamath Falls, which paradoxically, has no falls anywhere around.

Tomek-

The first foot or so of PW shoreline plop rocks/outcroppings below the stone arch bridge is the best use of them I've ever seen.  Ever.  That is major scenic beauty.

There ought to be an audible signal or something when you update- it's an event!

Great stuff.

Excellent work again . I'm astonished to see how a custom terrain texture and MAXIS' pines can fit together ...this mosaic is superb . I'm surprised too by the reflection of the bridge in ploppable water and the same reflection of all ploppables rocks and trees on the two pictures following the mosaic ... ::)
Great use of water flora .
Klamath Creek seems to be a lovely and peaceful little town ... I understand tourists .... and trouts fishermen . ;D

Don't worry about the size of your updates , I'm sure most of us prefer this quality than quantity . ;)

Not much to write today. I'm really happy that I got so many comments, I'll reply to most of them by tomorrow.
As for today, here you go with two little mosaics of the upcoming town of Lockney. The town is located further to south, about 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) away from Klamath Creek. Lockney has about 4000 inhabitants and the mosaics below present residential areas.

I know it is almost a month since you posted the pictures of the dam (I have been lurking), but I have to agree with everybody who has posted so far. A wonderful creation - I think all the superlatives have been used up.

Your work has inspired me to experiment over the Easter break creating dams. There are many options! I will post pictures if I get some image hosting sorted out. Perhaps there should be a 'Show us your dams/reservoir' thread...

I especially like your dam and it'surrounding (very realistic, also the scale is as good as SC4 allows), your streams, waterfalls and flora around them are amazing!

I see a long break in your MD - would you like to continue it? It would be nice, your skills are really good (much better than mine)

I see a long break in your MD - would you like to continue it? It would be nice, your skills are really good (much better than mine)

Serdeczne pozdrowienia z Bielska!

Well, I'd love to continue this MD and I'll try to. However, I'm not really able to do it right now, you know, RLS... And not only that - at the moment me, and rest of the polish SC4 community are working on a multiplayer region project, you might like to check it here:

Thank you for your comment, Adam!
Pozdrawiam :)
