I was wondering how long you guys play SimCity 4 in one sitting? And I mean actually playing, the hour that it takes for the game to load doesn't count ::) ! And actually, this doesn't have to be limited to just SC4, I'm also asking about BAT'ers...how long do you guys work on your projects in one day?
I usually on average spend about an hour per sitting. And 80% of the time, I won't do anything but look around my cities, or make minor changes to what's already been built (and I don't have any cities of any size that take a full map yet...). Some days, however, when there's nothing to do, or when I'm in a SimCity mood, I can play for half the day...those are the good days! :sunny:

If I play Simcity 4, I will play it around 30 minutes. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
But sometimes I haven't any time for playing Simcity 4.
Edit: At the weekend or in holidays I play +/- 3 hours...

On a daily basis about 2 hrs but when I play it can be any number of hours. The longest in one sitting was probably about &drumm1 13 hrs to be honest. Shoulda saved that day :'( so took a long time to redo that city. lol. Now that I got access to the net its even worse beccause Ifound all these sites and new stuff etc. have tried many other games but I allways end up playing SC4. Started with the first game when it was released and been loyal ever since. ;D
When I have time to play I play around 1,5 to 2 hours.
On the otherhand, sometimes I start a city and let it run for some hours while I am playing with the kids, doing groceries or cooking diner. Does that count as playing hours?

::)Ok folks, here it the truth, I am retired from engineering, and after all SC4 is a lot of engineering, I also sorta miss building things, so I play way, way too much. I am sure I play three to four hours a day. I love it, I can't hurt the public if my designs fail and I don't really spend public money. I am a working photographer and have one client, a theatre across the Chesapeake Bay on Virginia's Eastern Shore, so when a production is under way, it cuts into my Simtime, but it is just as rewarding.
i try and get in 1 or 2 good three hour sessions i can't stop at just one hour
I don't have the time to play it every day :(
But when I play it is for 4 or 5 hours. And the next morning I hate it because I slept not enough.
Sometimes I play till 2 or 3 in the morning ;D

but whether my sims can get to work/school somehow seems more important ::)

1-2 hours of actual playing, often another hour just messing with the LE. And at least an hour just staring at the screen wondering how the heck to get rid of everything I don't like. It's most often the amount of staring time that decides the length of each session. If I can't figure out a decent solution I quit early.

Lets make some history...1994...Suddenly Sim City 2000 appeared in the software shops in Spain...I opened the box at +/-20:00PM... I finished playing the next day at 06:50AM...time enough to go to work ( I started working at 07:00 AM in this period of my life ;) )....so, let me count...the first meeting with this game took 11 hours....not that bad &blush

I play too much as well. 2 hours a day average, a bit more on weekends. Sometimes I make 5 to 6 hours sessions, dependind on what I'm doing on that moment. Sometimes I play until 3 or 4 in the morning, some other times, I play just as I wake up in the morning. It doesn't matter what time, whenever I feel on the mood. Once in a while I make a 2 or 3 days break to play another game, like last month, I made a 3 day break and played NFS:Carbon. It took me 3 days to finish the game, and get back to SC4 ;D
Well this is interesting ... in my world I have to be online for around 18 hours a day ... my companies deal with clients in the cellular industry around the world and I have server clusters in 5 countries. So timezones are spanned in a big way.
So I have a dedicated SC4 machine that sits on my main desk and most of the time I will have it in SC4 as my day goes on ... playing and watching as I do my work. If I am not playing I am BATTING and same goes.
So from what I see here I think I am way too deep into this game ... &hlp
Truth is that between my programming job and SC4 I rarely moved from my desk so my partner, my wife, my kids and my brothers virtually forced me back onto a bike and nowadays I tend to go for long trips when work slows down instead of playing SC4.

i play for about 3 hours per sitting depending on what else i have to do throughout the day, usually i am too busy to play for too long and not everyday.
I usually only go on sc4 now to test my bats and lots. I used to play until it crashed or i got kicked off the computer, which ranged from 1 - 3+ hrs
I play like two or three times a week. One entire weekend day, the other weekend day only after I have "played houseman", and one midweek evening or so. As loading the game and region takes like half an hour for me, once it's loaded I will play for at least 2 or 3 hours. If it crashes in an evening I go to bed and cry :'( A serious RLS from MON-FRI is keeping me from playing more....
i play for about 1 hour after school and homework on regular weeks (freshman year's a drag ::) ) however, since i am on winter break, i play waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, mainly just to pass the days until christmas (gettin a 360!) :D

I hadn't been playing much of late, but the Shosaloza project has got me started again, so when I sit down to play the game about twice a week, I leave between 1-6 hours in front of me!
i've managed to pull all nighters with this game, but it's not as much fun the next day! :-[

Depending on the mistakes I do... Lot of mistakes => Short playing-time (20 minutes would be the shortest I think...) - everything good, no mistakes=> up to 3 hours

I would guess that in one sitting I would normally play for 1-2 hours. I usually decide to stop when the game crashes when I zoom out to look at a city. Because I save quite regularly I don't often lose much. My old computer was very slow, but never crashed, so I would leave it running, sometimes all day. I can't do that with my new machine, it is faster but less stable, I think due to conflicts with the video drivers.
Normally I might play Simcity on the weekends, and maybe once during the week. Quite often I work on BATs during the week, a little bit in the evenings after work. Whilst I'm on holidays I play simcity a lot more, but still in short bursts throughout the day. If I spend too much time playing late in the evening, I end up building cities in my sleep.

I usually play in short sessions of 30 mins to two hours. I don't play in 16 hour sessions like I used to (back in the old days, lol) I may play a few times a day, and some days, I don't play at all. The rest of the time I spend LEing, taking care of business, chatting, or BATting a private thing or two. :P
right now that i have joined the working world i try and sneek in about 2, 2-3 hour sessions a week max.
I'm retired and usually played off and on all day (play, crash, look at internet, play, crash, etc) until about 5 PM when it was time to fix dinner and read until I went to bed, then RL intruded for a while and yesterday was the first time I've played in a few months. I played three hours tonight before I crashed so that was good! What I'd really, really like is for someone to fix lunch and dinner for me so I can just play all the time (I'm not smart/talented enough to BAT/Lot) Oh! and after they do the cooking I want them to wash the dishes, and vacuum, and grocery shop, and take out the garbage, and ....

Generally 1-2 hours, but sometimes upwards of 4. My general rule of thumb is if I cant devote at least half an hour, it's not worth playing.
Retired here also, kinda forced but what cha gonna do? It's 5:10 in the morning and in 20 minutes I'll get up my daughter and send her off to highschool. But playing is a lot of thinking for me so I leave SC staring at me a lot of the time. Play while I chat and bore all my freinds with it. Spent an hour and a half just tring to figure why pmiller's hobbit pier wasn't a hobbit pier and why the LE wouldn't accept that I changed the lot to 12x3 instead of 12x6, had to double up the pier, but I ain't real smart. If I ever get into batting I'll never leave this computer, btw since I upgraded, no more crashes! And I'm in in 4 minutes from a clean reboot, to the city, less than 2 if the memory's loaded. With 1.8 gig of plugins. I thought retirement would be boring but 24 hrs still just isn't enough sometimes, pestky freinds bothering me all the time, the phone rings way too much, I can only get 4 or 5 hrs in a day sometimes. Even my daughter seems to require attention every day.

Cameron1991, get the SC Data packer from the LEX, I use to have the same problem and believe me, the Data packer changed that! Besides, the game loads so much faster and cities load faster too! The Data packer is better than sliced bread! &dance &dance &dance
For me about 1 1/2 hours on my hour long lunch break at work when I can. I'm rebuilding my Plugins so play is on hold at the moment.
FanG: Vicky and I were discussing a tool that would to some of that stuff you were asking for, in addition to telling us if we were missing dependencies. We were going to get Wouanagaine to make it. He seems to be able to do anything.
I play for quite a few hours, but it's not really "one sitting." As I am on my laptop for the most part of the day I have SC4 minimised so I just pop in whenever I have a chance. :P

It really depends on my mood. Since I do weekly updates at ST, I'd say I play a few hours every day. But when I go back to school, I won't have much time to play, lol, since I'm focusing on my studies.

when i want to play i make sure i have enough time to put in the game so it can go from 1 and up to 4 hours of one sitting time.... (unless the game crashes and i dont have the patience to load it up again).....

*Cries* Uni, and RL have been taking me away from the game lately. I still put in at least an hour on weekdays(I try to do only small projects; I like to finish what I start in one sitting), but the weekends are all mine! :satisfied:
If I can't give it an hour minimum, I don't bother to open the game. My sessions usually run from an hour and a half to many hours. My average would probably be about two and a half per sitting. If I have the time, I'll play every day. With a tight schedule, I still usually manage to get in at least four days a week. I do have the luxury of being able to set my own working hours, though, and that makes a big difference.
With me starting Uni again on Wednesday (timetable in my CJ -> click! (http://sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=35&topic=268.msg8473#msg8473)) I seriously have to cut back on my SC4 time again. :'(

Does dreaming all day at work about how I'm going to play sim city when I get home count? lol. I used to be able to play sooo much longer than I do now. I guess life just went and got busy on me. I used to do 3-5 hour sessions where I'd just build and build and build. Add 200 000 people to my region.... Goood times. Since I started my CJ over on ST in october my play times have plumetted. I rarely play more than 2 hours. I figure this is due to 1) I'm becoming a perfectionist 2) I usually do only enough for my next CJ update and 3) I usually don't have enough time (ahhh RL :angrymore: ahaa j/k).
I guess I'm really lucky because my game never crashes :satisfied: **knocks on wood** so I play as long as I can concentrate. ;D
I play about two hours a day during the weekdays. On the weekend, if it is a lazy day, it can turn into an all day thing until, I break it off with SC4 to perform routine maintenance, i.e., conversation, dinner, Discovery Health, and shopping with my significant other.

It depends on what I'm doing in the game, though it's never less than an hour. If I'm terraforming or something like that, it could be 4 or more hours. I built a harbor that I think I worked on for about seven straight hours, pausing only for necessary functions...And I still wasn't finished! All in all, I think the harbor took about three days to fainlly complete. As an insomniac who stays up until 6 AM on some nights, I have 3-6 (glorious) hours by myself to dedicate to playing after my girlfriend goes to sleep.
I don't play SC4 as much as I used to. I used to spend 12-16+ hours playing the game. Now, I've been spending more time modding it and creating additional content for it than actually playing it these days. So most of my time goes into modding and creating instead of playing. The fruits of my efforts can be seen in the BSC section ;)

Most of the time its about 15 to 20 mins to test out a new BAT - but most of the time I spend an average of 2 to 12 hours working new BAT's ;). But lately I have been bit by the play bug again so I'm finding myself playing about 4 to 6 hours at a time. Sometimes everyday : :D. The longest I ever played on one city was 25 hours then passed out at the keyboard and banged my head when I fell off the chair &ops

The only problem my lap turns too hot after a time and it shutdown automatically, i would like an autosave because I have been lost like 4 hours of game playing, I know there is a save reminder but i doesnt works for me...
My longest game playing was at Age Of Empires II with a RPG custom scenario, it took me 48 hours to complete it with a friend...
If I am left alone, I've played 5 or 6 hours straight. When the wife is around, I'm lucky if I can get the game fired up before she wants me to shut it down so she can play Bookworm. She says I'm addicted and she totally doesn't understand my fascination with the game.
I usually play for an hour every morning before work and an hour or two in the evening before bed. If I can't sleep, I'm back in front of the screen until I get drowsy.
I spend most of my time playing the wonderful New Middle Earth map. It is HUGE with a lot of differing terrain. I get absolutely LOST in time when I play that map.

Well for me my playing SC4D can vary day to day as now i have to share my computer with my wife grrrrrrrrr
i told her to get her own and she didnt like that idea so i comprimissed and share.
she is on during the day and im supposed to be on during the evening well that dont happen till about 8 or even 10
at night so then i get on check the usal stuff i need to check.
so if im on at 8 i start to play around 9pm till almost if i can get cooperation till 2 am lol so my playing time as of late is about 5 hrs and since i had a crash and reinstal sim city im at a fresh start grrrrrrrrrrrrr, but out of the ashes comes beauty so in the time
frame i've learned how to use the canals set from Goober and use more custom content so i think my new reagion even though i think im gonna stick with San Fran, yes its a maxis map but i may change that as i go lol.
Now in my haydays before i discoverd all the fansites and custom content and a wife lol, i mainly used stuff from the main site lol and played SC4D for about any wheres depending on the day 10-15hrs in one sitting every other or even every day wow that is some memories dannnnng. -pat

Normally 1-2 hours after worth instead of TV (there's almost only garbage there so who cares), sometimes longer at the weekend.
I couldn't play the game for half a year due to hardware problems so after I got my p running again I did play very dense ... Right now workload is rather heavy so that I can hardly update my CJ at ST once in a month (my schedule has been once in a week .... )

Fascinating thread....well am mostly retired myself. Seem to spend about anywhere from 1 to 3 hours most weekday afternoons playing the game. Once a week or so will allow myself to just play till the eye lids fall to the desk top ;D, Seem to spend an awfully lot of time between here, Pegs and ST, looking for new things to add to the plugins folder........Datpacker.. better than sliced bread....solved most of my crash problems, but happened so many times. am paranoid in not saving everything.... This is the only forum that I spend time in......so that cuts into the playing time....but increases the enjoyment :thumbsup:.....Have had other games over the years, but the SimCity's have been the ones that have kept my attention.
i usually play this game for 4-6 hours a day..... when in a weekend i can play for a whole day $%Grinno$%..... but since i get SC4BAT, i start learning this tools.....so, time to play this game reduce to 2-3 hours a day.... also i hate zoom and query crash bug :bomb:(even i use DATPaker)..........
atm i usually play late at night when my 3 kids are asleep 4 or 5 hours but before the the children i was a 60 to 70 hours a week man lol, ive just recently come back to sc4 after a 4 year layoff (played Starwars Galaxies 2 years And World of Warcraft for 2 years the last game which i clocked over 112 days real time game play very addictive game imo) so you could call me a hard core gamer which ever game i play, i still manage around 18 to 20 hours sc4 time a week atm

I get time alotted to me by my wife. From 4:00 pm to 6:00pm Monday to Friday. Thing is, I get home from work at 4:30 pm and she has dinner ready before 6:00pm. Oh and I get Saturday and Sunday morning from when ever I wake up, about 8:00 am, until my son wakes up, 10:00 am. So that's about 2 hours.

After reading a few of the posts in this thread, its interesting to note just how much time we spend playing this game of ours is directly proportional to the amount of time our wives will let us sit in front of the computer.

i actually spend more time researching in models and finding tutorials than actually playing. most of the time i play i actually do it for testing purposes. otherwise, five hours in total.

Hmmmm you know what a little cuddle time that wouldnt be to hard to do when im not busy doing something involveing sc4 lol.... I agree Serkanner do we have to join them on that night out, cause dannnnnnng all night playing would make my night lol....
at lest an 1 hour or two the most i've played was at least half the day lol
I usually fire up the game without any goal, late at night, from regionview i choose a tile to play, and il play that tile untill whatever project ive started is completed, it may be an industrial district, certain parts of an airport, rural villages or whatever, but i dont shut the game down untill its finished, or i decide that i NEED coustom lots to accomplish what i want to accomplish.
Per example, two days ago i started playing my airport tile, which already is planned all through, the runways were already paved and the terminals set, so i started building all the taxiways, and i didnt stop playing untill all the taxiways were finished 4 hours later, when i decided that i need some costum lots inbetween the planes and the taxiway, which i then started working on, now im just waiting for a range of ID's for my new textures(which are made) before i can continue.
I generally play 4+ hours when i play, then some small 5 minute passes in a vanilla enviroment to test lots.
When batting i usually only make one peice or section at a time. I may make the Fuse of an aircraft in one sitting, go and have a cup of tea(or sleep depending on the time) before making the next part, and so on. Texturing takes even longer, thats basicly tabbing between Gmax/3ds previewrenders and photoshop to adjust things :P
when i do play, i start at about 5 or 6pm and go till i get tired, 10 or 11pm usually, don't play every day tho, and that time's the same as with my other games

Apart from testing my BATs, I haven't touched the game in over a year... Lately I have felt the urge to start playing again, though. Maybe do some kind of recreation of a real city.
before i got into lotting and such i used to play for several hours at a time.....as teemu sed ive been wanting to play again but im currently bogged down with work and lot projects ;)

one time i was at my friends birthday party and we stayed up all night. i bought him cd got the plugins from my pc to his and said i would give him a great region. well i forgot the region so i stayed on the computer playing it for 18 hours so he could have a nice region...... then i went home (he lives down the street) and played on mine to try to get another good region going for 4 hours.... you can tell i was tired and fell asleep in my computer chair. and this party was on a Friday so i had to wake up at 5... never doing that again :p
otherwise maybe 8 hours average is around 2 :P

This friday (19th October 2007) I am going to attempt to set a personal record for lenght of time playing SC4! I will commence playing at 8pm Australian Central Standard time (coz Ilive in Australia) and will try and make it through to sometime on sunday 21st. 30-odd hours of SimCity4 should be enough to break a record of some kind, wouldn't it???
NO SLEEP, NO PAUSING, JUST BUILD BUILD BUILD!!!!!

-If the game crashes, freezes, or the computer explodes, the stopwatch will pause until theings are restarted and the game will begin immediately once system is restored (this allows for things beyond my direct control). :'(
A full report on Monday will follow, of course, for those keeping score at home.
It really depends, have not been spending that much time with it lately. I do spends hours at a time, my cities need that kind of attention has taken my months to finish cities to me exact style....
RL and getting out also impacts as well as work and Uni, but I do try to make an effort, esp for my CJ and my own creative outlet. I'm no Bat'er but I can sure as hell build a grand city, so that works for me.
All depends on what time I have really.
@Fernby, bloody hell, good luck with that. I could do something like that is I wanted to set myself a deadline to actaully finish a city in a decent period of time.
Right now I'm averaging between 1 & 2 hours per day actually playing the game, at least 5 days a week. My days off, I'll usually spend 3 or 4 hours playing.

Some years ago, when I lived on my own, I played a lot, often until deep into the night. Once I "woke up" at 7.30am and realised that I just had enought time to take a short shower, eat a biscuit and jump onto my bicyle to get to the office in time....
This was when I played Civilization and SC original....
Now I am married to the best girl around and we have a beautiful 3 year old daughter.
I like to spend my time with them.
Other people watch TV, I play SC4.
I play one evening a week, let's say about 3 hours, and on fridays when I am at home with our girl, I play about 2 hours when she has her afternoon nap.
Visiting SC4D I do in the office on stolen moments.
Always too short to finish what I planned.. Sometimes I felt like playing deep into the morning, but afterwards I had a bad day then and shouted at wife, daughter and colleagues.... Not too good, so I quit the habit.
LoL FrankU dont worry Fernby fell short of his goal and a good discussion did take place afterwards about the dangers of doing such a stunt again and what it boiled down to is he wont do that again lol....
For me, I like to play SC4, for at least 1-2hrs sometimes more. in The Mayor's Diary, I've been working on a City called Steven's Point. Will give you more details about Steven's Point there ok. As far has SC4 is conerned, I think I've gotten hooked on it:D. Sometimes when I start playing the game it takes hours for me just to get off the game. Because it's that good lol.

Sometimes I just start the game, let the simulator run for a while, plant a few trees maybe :) but give up pretty soon due to a lack of inspiration.
But sometimes I have kind of a "creativity-flash". An idea begins to form in my mind followed by the struggle against the limitations of the game ::) and before I know what happened, the day is gone. ;D
My playing habits change or evolve or something....right now I am in the mode of playing just about everyday, at least an hour or so, usually between two and four hours.....it helps that my current region is 11x11 large cities.....!... I gotta stop looking at NHP maps....I want them all and some are soooooooooooo big...somedays I just do a little something...other days I'll look up and have to check to see if the world is still out there :P, doesn't matter if it is or isn't....I've got my world here on the 'puter....sheesh

That varies considerably. Usually up to 2 hours per sitting, but when i started to build a new city/region it can also be as much as 5 to 6 hours.
when I get going I get as of lately and it can be upto at least 8hrs lol
I don't play for long whiles, I get into game, build for a few minutes, and then find that I need this or that civic building relotted to fit into my cities... ::)

I used to playing for over 5 hours, but now less than 1 hour per day, and maybe only every second day, I am still love SC4, but I am into BATting more, I find it more amusing as I am a fan of architecture. My projects for SC4 are still going though, I have a CJ at ST (not updated very often though... :P)... hehe.
Haven't been playing much. Sometimes I stay up late because of this though, but it's becoming less frequent. Been juggling my love for playing SC4 with WiC and making short movies (Wow, I've officially got a hobby other than playing games :D)
To be conservative, I can play 10 hours a week (5 hours on Friday, 5 hours on Saturday) assuming I'm playing on and off and on again. When I suddenly get hooked, I can play 20 hours a week (10 hours on Friday and Saturday) and if ever, 2 hours on Sunday possibly 1-4 hours on Monday-Thursday. With that, I play 10-26 hours a week.
Usually, 30-45 minutes, exit game, lot building/s, return to game, plop building/s. Then, another 15 minutes. Exit game, lot building/s. Repeat process.
Makes sense. :P

its exactly the same for me :)
but there was also a time while i was normaly playing the game and this took me often 20-30 hours with a huge playlist in winamp and 12 hours sleepin after the little session.
there were a few years i had absolutly no night and day rithm.
sitting on LE i cant do that because after a normal day iam not able to do anything. then i better go sleeping and be more productive the next day :)
spend about half an hour browsing sites for downloads, an hour at the forums, then about an hour actually playing.
The forums I do at the office on quiet moments and during lunch break. Like now.
At home, I play on monday evening. I bring my daughter to bed: half past seven (she's four years old). My wife works this evening. I play from 7.30 untill about 10.30-11.00 pm.
This includes LE, terraforming, citybuilding.
Sometimes I have another evening or one or two left-over-hours.
Sometimes I am working on an LE project, sometimes I terraform a new region. Too little time remains for actual gameplay. I am still not good at it and just build more or less at random. But I have fun, and that's the whole point. Isn't it?
