What driver are you using with BAT/Gmax?

I've noticed some funky stuff with each driver...

Heidi (why didn't she just stay up on the mountain  ??? ) doesn't seem to render anything in the preview, I've not bothered to try it with the full render of the model, but somehow my Gmax version ended up on Heidi driver when it was originally set to Open GL.  Also colors are all washed out.

Open GL: Ummm, sometimes has a screen redraw where I click on a toolbar menu (like file) and the drop down list is shown then Gmax does a screen redraw (that's what Im guessing it is) and I lose the menu and have to go click on File again to get the menu to reappear. Colors are substantially darker than Heidi driver.

DirectX or is it called Direct3d. Has the same issue as OpenGL with the screen redraw, don't notice much difference in colors between this one and OpenGL.

I'm guessing that Heidi is out for the purpose of batting since you can't see a preview of the model in the BAT renderer, so it's between OpenGL and the Directwhatever.  Is one better than the other, does one provide closer to real game colors?  Is one of them supposed to be faster at rendering or is that Gmax having to calculate all the polyannas?

Thanks,

Oh!  Thanks for the negative rep, I love you too!

SimFox

All those drivers do is provide some acceleration to view port and have NO effect to actual rendering.
To understand color you have to learn about light. as color is a response of a surface to the light. there are plenty of articles about that on the net.
Go to any of 3d modeling sites (like www.cgtalk.org, evermotion.org etc) you'll find there plenty of info.

DON'T get locked into just BAT - if you will you'll never progress even in it. There plenty of nonsense based in ignorance going around in our little community.
Back to modes (correct terms for what you called drivers) of MAX.
currently Direct3D (if we speak of MAX9 onwards) is by FAR the fastest in terms of viewport performance. Heidi is a software and by definition is slow. OpenGL hasn't been developed in MAX for years now and is there purely for legacy purposes and those who has pro level cards (like nVidia Quadro).
Unfortunately Direct3D still have some bugs with Vista that hasn't been ironed out since Max9. the reason is (according to Autodesk) nVidia inability or unwilliness (due to narrow scope of the problem) to write good drivers. It was discussed to death in specialist forums, but to nothing has done...
