crash to desktop

Hello to everyone! I'm very involved in my region, Val di Cornia, altough I cannot play it very often. and, all of a sudden, a problem occurred. it may happen that the game closes and returns to desktop without anybody asked it, but that was a very uncommon event. In the last week, it has done so every twenty minutes of playing. I don't know if it's the city I'm actually playing (a very pleasant valley with rural development and all the kind of beatiful BSC' housing) that causes this, because, as i told before, I can play only a couple of time a week and I was very eager to finish the infrastructure of this city. At the moment, I'm trying to play with another city to see what happens (it hasn't caused any problem in the last thirty minutes). Can anybody help me and tell me how to manage this problem? I wish I could save my city...

I would swear that this is somehow related to the chrashes....  512 MB is enough for an XP with a plain SC4 install. The bigger your plugins folder is, the more memory problems may occur.

Also, to help minimizing the crashes, I would recommend you to check wouanagaine's DatPacker tool. It makes wonders with big plugins folders with thousands of files in it

Now I know at least what is the issue. my plugin folder is something around 800 Mb!!!
Thank you so much for help and suggestion, I will try  wouanagaine dat packer and see if it runs smoothly.
I was playing just right now on another city and it didn't crashed in two hours, even though it was a big metropolis with 250000 sim and the game was very slowed down.  weird, isn't it?
Alas, no memory upgrade , since I'm playing on my co-tenant PC (not so personal in the end  ).
I've got an old P3 machine with 512 Mb RAM, the game couldn't even start up there.
