I haven't posted images on a forum in a couple of years. Please bear with me if they aren't right the first time, I will get it.

Challenge 1

The regional view of Route 10 and the railroad:

Okayyyy let's see if this worked.

Challenge 2

I only took one picture of the power and water. Trying to get caught up with everyone else.

Power:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FB-Jan2001240100207.png&hash=1ad003dc233d80d093c28c7bb3a7cb81cd87bf83)

Water:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FB-Jan2001240145732.png&hash=f6c76642bdb449b7c6e7a79e9d0220dd0cd4655f)

These are both in tile B.

Region view:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown-1240141108.png&hash=afcfd69b18154efb64e5ec674fd3e9582dca45a3)

The road runs where it runs because it needed to be there. That section of the region was roadless.

Ok, your challenge 1 is now noted and will be non-officially judged. You will receive your points right here in your thread and also final points will be shown on the official pointage sheet on the bottom line. Good luck.
We'll be waiting for your second challenge soon.

Challenge 3

The region view:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown-1240177787.png&hash=35e4ff9affbea7e4d0667cb1ef5897feefcf8ef4)

I chose the northern half; the terrain was more suited to some mods I want to download and try out.  There are so many mods, I feel like a kid in a candy store at the moment.

The river crossings:

The railroad bridge in tile D-

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FD-Jan2001240186599.png&hash=6a512d998c796f194858f8cba58cde1594cbc5d8)

There were few resources available and some fallen logs were dragged out of the nearby forest. The train engineer would be a fool to try to run that barricade.

The road bridge in tile L-
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FL-Jan4001240186956.png&hash=504302fe355cf4be0a68fe3ece45098ce693e20f)

The local farmers are up in arms and supporting the rebellion.

A small village in South Bordertown ( tile H)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FH-Sep14001240182528.png&hash=b7c53cfe20572f7991b3a35f5afce2d0fe95d5dc)

Another small village on the northern side of the river tile A

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FA-Oct23001240185528.png&hash=211f743d546368b5a0baa4ffaf91da21e2f0d68c)

Finally my third village located in tile B

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FB-Mar20001240185934.png&hash=10a7b40ee287d723769193e49a270d8428ed3f05)

Not sure which, or if either, of these two will be my main city. It all depends on how the villages develop.

Thank you for your update.

We have now taken note and copied the pictures of your challenge 3, it will be judged after the deadline.
Now you can do whatever you wish to do within your regionhalf only, but make sure not to overbuild it comparing to the rest of the region. It might give you some serious problems later on.
You do NOT have the right to touch anything of the part that belongs to the Separatists.

Challenge 4 will be partially given by your adversary and you will give a challenge to someone else. Who will be challenging who and the matter of the challenge will be discussed in the Challenge 4 thread once everyone has turned in their part of this challenge.

Are you ready to be told what to do by a Separatist and a Governor? Good luck and we hope you enjoyed this one.

Lynn and Fred

zz........Sorry I forgot to mention the challenge 3 instead of 2 up there (my mistake). The words above in this post are the same as we send to everyone else officially. These mean that we have acknowledged your upload and downloaded all pictures to be judged.
Anyways, nice going and we will give you a reply to all your three challenges in a few days and hopefully some other members (or non-members) will do so too. Good luck.

Hello ZZ

QuoteThere are so many mods, I feel like a kid in a candy store at the moment

Welcome to the candy store and welcome to SC4Devotion. I don't usually don't play with the emphasis on close up details and I've been around for a while. But I, like you, am enjoying downloading and batting new stuff to create nice looking bordertown screen grabs

I liked your use of the sheep to create a blockade. Nice little villages too. You'll fit in just fine and dandy with the rest of us 'Sim Farmers'

Thanks for the welcome.

After getting over the huge skyscraper phase, I realized the rural scenes were more to my taste.

Yap, the whales show up. We will judge yours and the other "non-officials" next week when I come back from my business trip to europe.

One thing about your pictures: I recommend that you turn off the grid (hit the "G" key on your keyboard) before you take pictures, because we randomly judge some challenges for this and some other stuff.

Good luck

From General D. Wolf, Army of the Tilamook Republic:

The Tilamook Republic has chosen to expand into the southern half of tile E. Please construct the following to accomadate those fleeing the north:

-A small checkpoint, with a watchtower, just south of the road bridge
-A village of not less than 300 people in the Southeast, with access to the road bridge and rail line. This village is to be centered around a plaza with the requisite monument to our cause, and is to have a building that may serve as a center of government.
-Environmentally healthy power plant, preferably geothermal power.
-Water pump or tower providing plenty of water for future settlement, plus small water treatment facility
-Police, fire, health, and school facilities
-At least 20 farms, preferably more slightly larger than those in tile G, across the region
-Road bridge across the tributary river to the Southwest, and road connection to tile D
-On the west bank of the tributary, a small industrial district.
-Landfill in sw corner, at least 4x4, with street access.

Request following images to prove completion of task
-Full City view
-Full city zone view

Your assistance in the peaceful transfer of power in the south is greatly appreciated.

Yours, etc.
General David Wolf

To General Wolf:

Your communication has been received. We have one question about the "requisite monument"; this is in addition to the one required by the challenge to be built in our territory?
We shall begin construction of the other buildings immediately.

Judgements

Challenge1

Since you had the advantage to build the roads and rails after you have seen our judgements, we will judge you a little harder for the first two challenges.

You have chosen a good place to cross the river for both road and rail and also ran you route through a good path.
We gave you 4 points for the rails and 5 points for the route.

A total of 9 points were credited to your total score.

Excellent work.

Lynn and Fred

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Challenge 2

A.   The second route was quite well planned, but the river crossing is at its largest, you could have chosen to build the bridge closer to the F tile. We gave you 4 points for the route challenge.
B. and C. Both water and power lots are poorly excecuted and plopped in the middle of nowhere without really having planned it out thoroughly, plus the workers home have not yet been built (zonage doesn't count). We gave you 3 points for the waterchallenge and 3 points for the powerchallenge with both being on the lower rim of 3.

A total of 10 points were credited to your total score.

Putting in some more effort into building things will surely bring you more points.

Lynn and Fred

----------------------------------------------------------------

Challenge 3

A.   The last official route was layed in a proper part of the region but not quite as perfect as it should have been. We gave you 4 points for the route challenge.
B.  Blocking the road with sheep was quite hilarious, not a logical idea, but we had a good laugh. Your rails are simple but effectively interupted. We gave you 4 points for the cutoff challenge.
C.  The actual overview of your region is a little less than we expected, but still good. Your town (village) is just starting, but please wait until zones are all grown before taking pictures the next time, it doesn't look good in your challenge at all when showing halfdone works. The farms are ok, could use different sizes and shapes though, try to work on that for better points the next time. We gave you 3 points for the regional works challenge.

A total of 11 points were credited to your total score

Again putting in some more time and creating more details and variety, you will be adding more points to your region. Good luck with the separatists.

Lynn and Fred

All your points and your name will be added to the Pointagesheet the next time that it will be updated.

Challenge 4

PART1- My orders to frostwolf with clarifications:

  Mayor Badger,

As the representative of the Southern Council of ROwdey UNDesireables and Righteous LowlifeS I would like to thank you and your police forces for the restrain shown during the recent troubles. The council expects this restraint will continue. It is our hope to avoid further escalation which will lead to possible bloodshed.

In the spirit of coexisting together we have a few requests for the development of Oak River ( Tile H):

1- Zone an adequate amount of industrial to accomadate the citizens of Bridgetown and Oak River.
2- Zone some commercial to give the residents a place to aquire needed services.
3- Zone additional residential to foster growth in Grand County but not more than the jobs will allow.
4- Adequate power, water, and garbage disposal resources are to be provided.
5- Police, fire, health, and educational facilities are to be built as needed to promote the growth and wellbeing of the citytile.
6- Provide adequate road/rail/ mass transit transportation as required to provide timely and uncongested movement.

The ratio of RCI is left to you as is the building of parks and other items to foster desirability.

Mr. Mayor please do not misconstrue our attempt for a civil conversation as a sign of weakness, we will bare our fangs if required.

Respectfully,

Stephen Blumrath

To County Supervisor Badger:

Sir,

The council realizes it is lacking in basic information regarding the infrastructure and zoning of Grand County. As a result we request the following:

1- An aerial picture of Oak River.
2- An aerial picture of Bridgetown showing the current zoning.
3- A description of the power and water connections made to the various city tiles. The current agreements between the citytiles will also be needed.

The councils plans are to turn Bridgetown into a center of commerce the world will envy. Adjacent areas will provide the support for this vision.

-Industrial development should be along the east side of the river. This will also require a freight/passenger train station.
-Residential development is to be of low and medium density with provisions for the future need to increase density as the region developes.
-Road requirements are covered under item #6.
-The connection of water pipes with Fortuna is agreed to.
-As Fortuna is currently outside of our realm of responsability do not increase the budget to accomadate them yet. Per item #4 the budget shall be appropiate to the demands of Oak River and Bridgetown.

Respectfully,
Stephen Blumrath
Southern Council of ROwdy UNDesirables and RightEous Lowlifes

OOC:  Regarding the funding in Bridgetown: According to the rules I am only permitted to work in one tile. This presents a bit of a problem since the schools and hospitals are in the southern territory. I would say no, neither of us are allowed to do anything in the south part of Bridgetown at this time.

I can't wait (and dread) to see what you have in store for me LOL

zz

PART 2- 3 to 5 pics of fulfillment of orders

4.1 Full city view per orders:

4.4 Southwest quad of rebel territory:

Instead of a landfill I used a waste to energy plant. It's compact, inexpensive, nonpolluting, and very efficient. If you want the landfill I haven't a problem with replacing.

4.5 Closeup of village :

This concludes the completion of the orders phase.

PART 3- 2 pics of my developement

Lorient (Tile L ) overview
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH4%2520jpg%2FCH46Lorientoverview.jpg&hash=e2dc3e80805cc322ddc2ac4bdcc4914773f7c1e8)

Lorient is currently being built, torn down, rebuilt, torn down again, and rerebuilt until I am satisfied with it. It is a town in flux.

Kanton (Tile K) overview
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH4%2520jpg%2FCH48aKantonoverview.jpg&hash=99d1bceaa9a28fb3fecb5a6aa54664d6c60aa916)

Started Kanton this morning, it needs more work yet. The railyard is a placeholder for the eventual route into the mountains and connection with the north.... if I can figure how to do it.

PART 4- The monument in Lorient (Tile L)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH4%2520jpg%2FCH47Zoom4ofmonumentinLorient.jpg&hash=3e9f819898371235c0b4d34bce98f73d7bb96262)

A respectful word or speech is required by the governer....... respectful? hmmmm Okay

As he walks to the podium Mayor zz ponders, should he respect the wishes of the governer or......

Speech to follow in a bit..... I'm not done yet Fred and Lynn.  Thunderstorm going on and want to post just in case.

The speech:

" Citizens of Grand River Valley, recent events have brought great trouble to our region. As y'all know a small group of armed terrorists have seized control of the southern parts of our territory. With the assistance of the federal government, we have secured our borders and the insurgents have been contained. Further aggression by the terrorists will be swiftly dealt with."

I paused to take a breath and sensed the reaction from the audience was somewhat positive.... not great but okay.. should I continue with the Bush/Cheney theme or....

"We have been given the responsibility of erecting a monument to those who have rejected our values and our way of life. A tower for criminals who have broken the law and put our friends and families in dire straits. Our government has ordered us to build this building in the misguided hope of peace and friendship.... Peace and friendship with criminals and thugs... I say NO! NO! This tower is a testimony to those who remained stedfast in the values of hard work and education. The values you and I have lived our lives on. The values our parents our raised us up in and their parents raised them on... and their parents.. and for generations it has been so."

A pause for breath and a much more positive audience... I turned to my assistant and whispered " call the council together..."

"This tower is dedicated to the citizens of Grand River Valley... the clock is a symbol of the eternal river of time that ties us together with our ancestors and our children and their children and so on...."

Breath.... now for the final act of my political career....

"To the criminals in the self proclaimed Tilamook Republic, I have but one thing to say; Listen to the ticking of the clock... it is the time running out until you're brought to justice."

As I acknowledge the applause the thought becomes plausible.... news from the other regions points to a weakening of the Federal government, the southern revolt has become widespread, several army units have revolted (I hesitated to use the word mutiny) and control some key regions....... I will need the support of the army.... it's possible...... Bahhh just a pipe dream....... but just maybe, just maybe possible.....

"Lori let me know when the council is in session..... a quorum is all we need... call General Runstadt....call the mayor of the next region, what the heck was her name...."

EDIT: Reuploaded pics as jpg's

Okay.... I currently put the pics in the album then, upload to photobucket, then link from here. At what stage would you suggest I convert them to jpg's and how would you recommend it be done.
I agree with you; I have fiber and the time it takes to load my thread currently is a bit cumbersome.... it will only get worse as the challenges accumulate and we have only one thread to post in.

Just before when you upload the pics to photbucket, transfer them to jpeg's. That way they should be easier to load, even if you only have one thread. It does anyways with those who have a MD/CJ and they upload the pics to their photobucket (etc) in jpeg's.

Thanks

Hi ZZ

I really like the screen grab titled 'closeup of small village' ... you've done a lot of good things. You've got trees sprinkled about and green space running along side the rail line. The church is a nice touch and fits in with the scene I think.

I really enjoyed reading your speech. The line where you said '' listen to the clock'' gave me a good belly chuckle.

Good Luck with your challenge.

Have reuploaded the challenge 4 pics as jpgs and moved the older pics to another folder. Since those pics only exist on photobucket now, I'll try to get them back and then convert them. If not it will remain as a broken link.

Hopefully this will make it easier for y'all. Just wish it had been mentioned earlier.

Thanks and please in the futur upload the pics again in jpeg's, much appreciated.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glad you were able to finish this challenge without too many difficulties again, now did you?. We have taken notice of your pictures and your separatist demand. Thank you.

Now we will take the time again to judge it properly which may take a few days. We will have the time enough to do so since the next challenge will have  two weeks to be worked on.
You still have no right at all to touch the separatists side of the region, but you can build whatever your desire is in your half, of course with fully respecting the general Rules.
Thank you and Good luck. Lynn already started judging some days ago.

A recent region shot (transport and satelite) would be handy dandy if you could please.

Sorry for taking so long to make my requests Mr. Was just a little busy. But here are my demands.

We have noted that many waterfowl are using the land at the mouth of the river to feed and to look after their young. Therefore it is vital for our state and for the future of our children that we preserve such a natural area as well as the marshes and mudflats that surround it. The island that floats in the river looks like an ideal place for a childrens adventure park and campsite. As this site is remote it is vital a ferry service be provided for such a campsite on this island.

Around the ferry on the mainland we wish to establish a small eco friendly village. It should contain a church, a post office, a local shop, wind turbines, about 50 homes, a small community centre and a square for village events. Waterfront property would be ideal but not neccessary.

The short river that runs through the east of our region is rich with freshwater fish. We wish to harvest these fish, how you harvest them is up to you. We have highlighted the stretch of water in our plans.
The village mentioned above should also contain a small sector for packaging the fish collected from the river.

The rest of the northern side of the river mentioned above should be filled in with farms as detailed in our map at the end.

On the opposite side of the river it is noted that there is a rail line. It may seem awkward but we wish to provide those in the small village accross the river with a local access to rail. Also near this station we would like to situate a hotel or motel. This is not too far from the wildlife preserve and the campsite. It is to provide those who vacation to our region with a little bit more of a luxury than the campsite. Some people can't stand the tents but they like the public footpath and the location of the wildlife preserve. We hope the wildlife preserve will become a good place to take children on school trips in the future.

The rest of the southern side should be farming except for a small enclove of woodlands and natural scenery and majestic gardens. These gardens will be part of a new stately home, the gardens will have public access and shall be exquisite. The position of this stately home and it's surrounding gardens is up to you but a small map has been provided of what we wish the layout to be. The map is just a rough idea, feel free to change anything in regards to layout just try to keep the same essential features. It's not very detailed and stuff is missing but you as the landscaper can fill it in.

(If you want me to write it all in a list so you can check things off let me know :P)

Any questions let me know :P

Thank you, if a question arises I will ask.

Uhmmmm You did see this part of the challenge didn't you?

As playing the Separatist, you will give the orders to build on 2 different citytiles in their regionhalf, without necessarily being attached, anything you wish with moderation (please don't forget that last word) You cannot ask to use more than 50 % of the total suface of each tile to be filled with your demands. Make it reasonable and easy. It will be judged with points.

Just askin'  ;D

Yes. I did :P.
With the top tile I should be fine then cos part of it is your city, the reserve and water :P. So if you want just convert some of the  farms in the south to extra woodland or leave it as open plains :P?

JJ

A couple of questions:

"A childrens adventure park", I don't know what your asking here. An amusment park?
"A small community center"..... the town hall, a specific building, the bar down the street?

zz
Title: Re: zz's Tribulations in Bordertown
Post by: JJ on May 23, 2009, 01:52:59 PM
Alright.

A childrens adventure park would be where they can lots of different activities, like climbing, canoeing, an assault course, some slides, zipwire, a fort to play around in, etc. (But you could just build a small playground with a swimming pool if this was too hard :P)(Just some sort of activities for children to do while at the campsite)

And for the small community centre I meant any building what so ever. It really could be a house and you could declare that as the community centre. Just somewhere for people to meet.

Challenge 5

5.1 My Orders
To Supervisor Badger

The council is pleased with the work you accomplished in Oak River. Our original plans have undergone revision and are now scaled back to more realistic goals.

We have decided to build in Bridgetown and E. Bridgetown this time.

In Bridgetown:
1- Adust the health and education budgets as required; future adjustments shall be automatic.
2- Are checkpoints located at the sourthern end of the bridge? If not please build.
3- Extend the rail and road west to the border with E. Bridgetown.
4- If needed, extend power lines to E. Bridgetown.
5- We would like some farms to the north of the new road/rail.
6- Are train stations currently in my part of Bridgetown? If so where are they located? This section may be amended to add them after your response.

In E. Bridgetown:
1- Extend the railroad west to connect with simnation.
2- Extend the road westward where it will tee. The southern tee will connect to Oak Springs, the northern leg will stop at the river.
3- Build a small village of 500- 1000 people.
4- Provide adequet police, fire, health, and an elementary school.
5- Build a small church/ chapel near the center of the village. The church along with a modest village commons will be the focal point of the town.
6- We will need a train station in the village.
7- We would like a couple of small commercial stores in town also.

5.2 The rebels demands

( I know I went over the max of 5 pics. He ordered things so spread out I couldn't condense it all into 5.)

5.3 Military Facilities:
This was a struggle. I searched the LEX, STEX, PLEX, and every other EX I found for days looking for the right lot to plop. Found little to fit my vision of what was required in the time frames Fred has consistently spoken of in previous challenges. All seem to be fascinated with modern military jets and civil aviation; I wanted a Fokker DVII, a Nieuport 27, a Spad, an Albatros, a SE5a, a....... it was not meant to be. I settled for the very few WWII aircraft to be found.
The military facilities have been built with the thought that the challenge is taking place over a 60 to 90 day period.

Navy Pier:
This is a river map with a small bay or ocean frontage. The river has a shallow depth in many places. Large naval vessels are not only out of place here they couldn't realistically operate in this theater.

Hi ZZ

I like the naval base. I agree with you about the size needing to be small. We'll see if the governor agrees too  &Thk/(

This is the first time you've used the LE? Jolly Good show you've made of it. At first I wanted to make a grass landing strip for my air force but my imagination didn't think to use the 'off color' grass you thought to use. Silly me.

Very nice update.

A bit difficult to go from 40,000 population to 125,000 in two weeks. The 40,000 in a city tile wasn't hard, the region part was time consuming. As of this morning I wasn't sure we'd make it.

Judgements for challenge 4.

We have been away from judgements for the summer, first because of some illness of Lynn's mother and then missing some free time, after we took an almost two month vacation, but now we're back judging. Most of these judgements were done since quite a while, but only on paper.
This challenge was a bit harder to judge than others, because orders were given by an adversary, so we will judge it so, putting ourselves in the shoes of the adversary. I must say that we also were very generous with points at this time, something that we will change a little bit for the next coming challenges. Don't worry, we won't start giving bad points now..... ;) Please go and judge my challenge 4 now. Thank you.

Orders given are of good sense and 4 points were given. The realization of the orders received are well executed and 5 points are added. The statue or monument is not really a statue/monument, but it well located and the story that comes along with the pictures are well and entertaining. 4 points were given.

We enjoyed the farmland and the wooden patches here and there, like irl. Residential areas could have been improved but are still fairly well done. Good update. We have added 13 points to your total.

1. All reconnections were nicely and more or less securly done and 3 points were earned.
2. Your orders for the adversary were well formed and well thought over. We decided to give you 4 points for this part of the challenge.
3. Nice to see some good work with the completion of the rebel's demands. Very well done. A solid 4 points were given.
4. Finally we have someone that really understand the meaning of a temporary military airport, not too big and good looking with a grasslike runway. A solid 4 points were given for this.
5. Hard not to give you 4 points  for the scenic run of the rails. Excellently done.
1 Bonus point for being ontime with your upload.

You have earned yourself a total of 20 points, which is excellent and one of the best in this challenge. Congratulations.

7.1b The city recently signed a lease with the Bordertown RR. With the expansion of the railyard this will attract more industry to build on the vacant lots. These empty lots are a well known area of drugs and prostitution.

7.4 Farms.. huge farms.. gargantuan farms.. farms with meglomania... ;D  First I refer you to my pics from Ch6a, I have large farms. How ever...

7.4b
One of the two remaining farms in Casper. Sadly, the others succumbed to the greedy land developers in what the history books now refer to as "The infamous population boom of 6a". As a side note, in the background one can see the ruins of the depised horticulturist and genetist Dr. Ploppncee. His mutations continue to overrun local streams and are a great concern to the town council.

7.5 Central park
What to say.... a small rural village with a population of 6000... small town square.

Challenge 8

As the Governor gave his speech regarding our future in a global economy, I considered the options available. Our major products were iron ore, steel, agriculture, and the beginings of a salt industry. Our factories were turning out high quality consumer goods. Products that are best shipped by rail, sea, and road. With a population of 148,000, a large seaport was out of the question. So we will start with docks and wharves. Also the railyards will be expanded to accomdate the increasing amount of consumer goods we are manufacturing.

Challenge 9

A small rustic national park typical of most in the US; not like Disneyworld as some seem to believe.  :)

9.1
The Theodore Cleaver National Park:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FBordertown-1286715162.jpg&hash=6975bd9af39e6c785913247249b57374e41e275d)

b1
Fed from an underground spring, the waterfall is a popular attraction. The various trails provide many picturesque scenes. Recent forest fires have left a scar on the land for now but plants are returning quickly.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714026.jpg&hash=437285baff588ba691181a81f229e7badbeec31d)

b2
Another photo from the air showing the waterfall, Wallace Bay, and the picnic area at Beaver Point.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714303.jpg&hash=db7282b00758816dbdaac6319c594d07988fee99)

c
The entrance to the park with the welcome station to the left.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FB-Mar28291286834598.png&hash=5bb06a50bf9c082119e7cfb3e0bebdfcf956b47c)

d1
The Eddie Haskell Campgrounds provide cabins for those who rough it but not really "rough it". In the foreground is the general store and a play area. Run by Mary Ellen Rogers, it's the center of activity for the campground.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FB-Mar28291286834581.png&hash=0172e8ac73b42d1465231acaa49fb03e31d5204d)

d2
For those who prefer the "Lumpy" Rutherford Campsite is as close to nature as one can get without sleeping under a tree.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714379.jpg&hash=8d073b12b8d0f54c4052a30b6f23bbc8899995f6)

d3
A picnic area for an afternoon of communing with nature.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714491.jpg&hash=47dfe6ecec7d8f0d7dbf9817d6d443198f8f9347)

d4
And the Beaver Point picnic area again.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714410.jpg&hash=e4e4c841a541329cc61a067581c32da48ad3062a)

e
The road shot. The tunnels suprised me when they built, was trying to build the road over the mountain. They looked kinda cool so I left them and made them part of the story.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714603.jpg&hash=d6e2f127c1bda5b17e23fbed4245d1fc492ab3cd)

Looking for Bigfoot.

It's to spread out to fit in one shot and I wanted to get the bathrooms in the picture. :)

4
One more for the heck of it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi120.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo184%2Fzzsteven%2FBordertown%2520CH9%2FArdmore-Oct12301286714749.jpg&hash=b2c5875672d712b816d06fc0fba86c30abfcd1b7)

5 That area was chosen because it was one of the few places undeveloped. Also I wanted to try to build something in a mountanous area, this seemed perfect spot. As the southern tip of the national park that extends north into the next region; we will be able attract the tourist from up north.

That's all I'm going to write, running out of ideas to describe things.

Thanks soulchaser.  Oversaturated as in to much plants or something else? I think I overdid it a bit with the plants.

EDIT: Hilly park? I live in SW Fla; those are mountains to me.  ;D

That's a nice location for the park. And I like the picnic area. Are you going to do challenge 10 too?

Thanks Jim.

I'm looking foward to challenge 10. I developed way to many tiles and suspect the hiway building is going to be rather destructive.

Oversaturated = the colors are a bit too plastic ;)....maybe just my mood in fall ;)

And: I'm from Bavaria, Germany...those are hills  :P

don't worry with ch. 10...mine is really destructive (considering the farms), too....not that bad  &Thk/(

Ok zzsteven, here I bring you your headache for the 10th Challenge, hope you'll still love me after that. lol

It ain't that bad and difficult and besides, we can talk it over. I am flexible. ;)

Highway Transportation and Regional Access

Here is Your Highway Challenge 10, zzsteven.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg831.imageshack.us%2Fimg831%2F4167%2Fzzsteven.png&hash=c171365ebe89a21caf6a6146969eb3faccb76559)

This is the most difficult Challenge in the series of Eleven Challenges in all (Plus the final/conclusion in 12). This challenge is to test your mayorly patience and logical sense of planning and construction. Use all your Mayor skills to make it practical, logical and beautiful looking.

The highway itself  is shown in RED and is allowed to change into an Avenue (Boulevard) on 3 different tiles only, so choose your locations well. You may build only 50% or so of an avenue in each tile though, the rest will have to be highway (any form of it). You are not allowed to build any avenue in the country, only within town- or city- limits. Building an Avenue is an option (maybe even a relief in some cases) and is not demanded for.

RED CIRCLES indicate where the 2 Highway Intersections demanded should be, it may differ from one Player to another whether it is three, four or more directions.

YELLOW CIRCLES  indicate where we would like to see the access ramps to the highway. You may build as many access ramps as you wish, as long we see these 3 indicated ones in their locations.

Remember that the *PLAN* can be discussed and negociated and may be alternated to a certain degree. Up to you to give us your suggestions. First study your situation with the plan given and then offer us the results of capability and/or demands for alternations before starting building. It is the Governor's final decision who should be respected at the end, and of course, be executed as such. Only a certain amount of alternation though can be negciated and/or will be accepted. In general the plan should be executed as drawn as much as possible (shown) on the map above, unless you have valid good reasons to ask for needed changes or alternations.
ONLY after the Governor has given his official confirmation and the *Green* light, you may start the regional construction.

After the Governor's confirmation of construction, you may show us your progress with several posts and pictures while you're constructing through the region. Only once finished the Challenge, we will ask you for the pictures needed for the judgement, again, they will be individually demanded.

In Your case...

... you will start your highway in tile D and following the river into tile E while crossing the small river northbound over the river's island. Then you meet your first intersection and turn southward and head over the two big islands into the tile H on one side and the other will continue slightly northwards between the the two towns and contour the mountain range into tile B, C and then sharp turn south to F where you have the second intersection, which goes strictly eastward and ends into an exit to connect to the city/town near the river's mouth. Hope you'll like this challenge, it will take some thinking and work to realize it. Good luck.

Pictures needed of Your Challenge 10:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

..........(coming up after confirmation of Construction from the Governor and after the end of the regional construction).........

We wish you good luck with this last enormous Project of GRV II and hopefully enjoy while executing it. No rush, take your time. ;)
We also will be anxious to see your project advancing as you hopefully will show us with pictures as you slowly wind through the region.

Fred (Lynn will be present for the judgements later)

Okay.... We spent the past month learning how to build a highway and learning how to lot in PIM-X. Neither of these have we ever done before. Version 1 of challenge 10 is complete and could be posted but I'm not happy with it, it could be better.... much better. So I decided to move it into backups, reload the Challenge 9 backup and start over again. Just letting y'all know that I am working diligently on this challenge... and it really is a challenge.  :)

I know that this must be kinda hard for a fellow who has not been doing a lot of highways, nor making lots, but like the title says, it is the GRV II "Challenge", right?  lol
We all wish you good luck. I am still working on my Challenge 9, can't wait to attack the tenth, see what you all are going through ;)
