Challenge 1 – We're on the road again! (and rails...but I like that song)

Governor Fred said... Hank said...Pete said (but mainly Fred said), we gotta build roads and rails!

And as being the mayor of this particular GRVII, I felt obliged to request money from the Transport Minister's coffers – and a lot of it. After all, what were they going to do with it – spend it in Capitalia? Oh no, I don't think so!

With budgets in place (thanks to a very generous Federal Government), plans were written on paper, scrapped and then turned into paper airplanes and many a fight was had.
But as in all government decisions, one plan was seen to be the most beneficial to the Governor and his missus - to traverse North-west to South-east in less than 10 days.

Entering from the top corner of the map, the road and rail gently split as each makes its way across the river, reforming at the base of the Fyansforn Ranges. At Border River, the two networks rejoin close to the river's edge – allowing both diverse views of the river and close proximity to a potential river trade in the future.

Around Hiker's Hill, the rail cuts into the countryside, rejoining with route 10 at the bridge crossing at Stanmore Bend.

Prior to building, numerous surveys were undertaken at several locations along the river to find the most logical and cost-effective positioning for the bridges. After much consideration, the decision was made for 2 straight bridges to be constructed in parallel formation at Stanmore Bend. With the one straight crossing and ideal locality to potential growth in the east, Stanmore's position was further cemented by its close proximity to excess dirt at Hiker's Hill.

As the dirt was mined and transferred by railcars to the northern bridge location, the same amount was being transferred by barges to the southern edge of the river for the construction of the bridge ramps.

The bridges complete, route 10 and GRR (Grand River Rails) continued south past Iayes Hill and swept easterly to Toroona and the river mouth, where the rail and road separated in search of land unseen to GRVII.

With windy roads and river views, route 10 is currently the main road from north-east to south-west of the region. It takes you on a journey through old towns and shows you secret glimpses of beautiful rivers and national parks. You will arrive at your destination in a leisurely pace, not rushed by society or freeways, being able to stop and look at that shop that you will never be able to forget.

In time, route 10 will be less-used, less maintained and eventually, forgotten. Freeways will appear and people will be driven by time to get to places faster. Route 10 will become a scenic route, used by those who allow the road to take them to destinations unknown...where a simple drive can be a memory you'll never forget.

Now that you posted your pictures, you are not allowed to change anything anymore. We made copies and judge the originals only.

We also will not make any comments in this thread besides the judging once it is finished by Wednesday next week, but we will make useful and friendly comments in your regular thread of GRV. Points will be given 3 to 4 days after the challenge is finished and will be posted in the Pointage Sheet.
Also your points only together with an explanation and comments why we gave you these points, will be posted here at the end of this challenge. Good luck.

You can start playing and build whatever you want in either tile B,E or H, but only in one of them.

First of all let us congratulate You. You have made it through the first Mayor's test.
On the picture below, circles with letters will indicate what was importantin your region for this challenge. If we say we don't like or we like, it doesn't mean that it's the same for others. We are judging to our lknowledge and what would be the most logical thing to do in our opinion, remember this.

A.  Very good choice for crossing the river.
B.  We both liked the way you followed the river, excellent observation from real life, because roads follow rivers quite often.
C. Again one of the best points to have the grand river crossed.

We did not see any *we don't likes* in this challenge. Very good and we even hesitated to give you more, but perfection is perfection in our eyes and there was a possibility to make it slightly better.
Excellent presentation of challenge 1, one of the best we' ve seen. Congratulations and good luck with the next challenge.

Lynn and Fred
